The devotion to Our Lady of Remedies left Portugal and landed on Brazilian soil around the eighteenth century. It came to the village of Taubaté by a route used for internal commerce, mainly gold, between Minas Gerais and the Vale do Paraíba. In Taubaté, there was a rural neighborhood called Vale do Itaim that, from the arrival of the image around 1750 and because of the great devotion raised, now it is called neighborhood Nossa Senhora dos Remédios or, as the local people say, Remédios. From the assumption that Our Lady of Remedies belongs to the cultural imagination of the local population, the purpose of this research is understand how it is constructed and how it operates religious social imaginary in the neighborhood. For this we use authors as Claude Levi-Strauss, Marcel Mauss, Mircea Eliade, Pierre Bourdieu, Michel Foucault, among others, as well as newspapers of the nineteenth century and interviews with local residents in order to see how this Christian myth and their meanings act in the system beliefs of Our Lady of Remedies neighborhood population

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIn the Ancient Greece, the sportive practice, before being seen as pedagogical object, was a form of cultural transmission, had sacred character and looked for to celebrate the honor of the gods. Independently of the reasons of the creation of these events - the Public Games, certain were that predominated its religious way, and as such, for the participants a series of norms was imposed. With the time, the Games of Olympia had started to gain greater importance until arriving at the point of being the central event of all the Greek culture, the wars were interrupted and a lot of people went directed to Olympia to appreciate the Olympics Games. They were in these occasions that the new heroes were known, the moment where the man arrived more close to gods, searching his transcendence. With the time, the religious condition was being supplanted for the spectacle properly said, reaching its peak soon after the beginning of the Roman domain, and almost immediate decline. This work has as objective to make a reflection of the reasons that made the olds rituals to become the great Games, supported mainly in the mythology. We will search to argue the reasons that had taken the Greek people the so great dither front to that it was, perhaps, the most important social manifestation of all the times

The epics are universal masterpieces, relentless expressions of the people‟s soul. In this way, we elected the Völsunga saga as a platform for apprehension of the Norse pre-Christian religious phenomenon essential aspects, since it presents elements such as: magic, belief in a inevitability of fate, constancy of premonitory dreams and the intervention of the mythical figure of Óðinn in its composition. As inherent to mythological construction, we identify the Hero aspect as fundamental component of this Scandinavian oral tradition.
Gomes, Nelson.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleRichard Wagner conceived the artwork as an activity similar to religion that should lead the human being to reflection about essential questions of his existence and conduct him to perfection. Wagner was always obsessed with the idea of redemption and his apprehension about regeneration of human being passed over of all his works. Wagner religious concepts has always been presented in his musical works and his literary essays, combining Christian and Buddhist traditions, political ideas and mythological principles that delineate his personal credo, a kind of syncretic religion in which the artwork has its place as a transcendence element, fulfilling the function to interpret the mythical symbols and making them comprehensible to human spirit perceptions. Wagner artistic ideals goes at the encounter of Paul Tillich thoughts and his Theology of Culture. Tillich states that religion is not restricted to the limits of religious temples or institutional domains, but could be found in any human expression that can manifest the ultimate concern . It can be recognized at any situation where one can find the unconditional element, in human manifestations of creativity and in culture, in honest searching for the truth or pursuing solutions to the existence adversities. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to search in Tillichian thoughts a theological correlation to redemption anxiety evidenced in Wagnerian artwork.

Abstract: Osiris was one of the most important divinities inside the panteon of Egyptian civilization. We find hints of this myth since the beginning of the Dynastyc era until the Greco-Roman period, in which we have the syntesis made by Plutarch (45-120 A.D.) in his work about Isis and Osiris. Analyzing the myth of Osiris, as it is narrated by Plutarch, we can realize that its influence was very deep and very important in the history of Egypt, reaching questions concerning the main features of this society. The myth of Osiris answered questions and wishes which were pertinent to all egyptians, so that it was adored in entire country. It possessed characteristics and functions as god related to the cycles of nature, like the Moon, the Nile River and the seed; as keeper of order and of regal succession and, fundamentally, as the one which transcended the death and went to reign in Over-Grave, becoming king and judge of that world. Thus, our purpose will be to show that the myth of Osiris was related to all features of Egyptian life, from peace to war, from dryness to inundation, from plague to plenty, from the divine position of the king to the hardness of servitude, and fundamentally, from life to death. So, the myth of Osiris got to embrace, in its divine personality, all the necessary attributes to resolve and to satisfy the needs of all social classes, from the king to the serf.

_________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
The present historiographical work aims at expressing the possible Jewish cultural appropriation related to myths, ideas and Oriental images. Having Dn 7 as a source text, I intend to track down the beasts’ framework, focusing mainly on the fourth animal, only described as being “exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass”. Analyzing these mysterious animal features, a parallel between the animal described in the supposed Alexander the Great trip to India, story narrated in the false letter attributed to Aristotle, and later inserted in the Alexander Romance. The animals’ descriptions made by the authors are very alike, and regarding the fascination that Alexander exerted upon the author of Dn, it is plausible to affirm that the animal described in the vision can be the Indian Rhinoceros, Odontotyrranus. It is worth emphasizing that even in a Judaism closed to cultural interchanges, the author of Dn ends up using prior pagan ideas, and Greek/Oriental images to culturally reaffirm himself and reject an imminent Hellenic influence over the religious Judaic customs.

Starting from the consideration that the constitution of human subjectivity has as one of its a priori, as well as language, the way in which we relate to the religious dimension, this research focus on the psycho-political component that is present there, pointing out to possibilities of introducing the concern with this dimension in the clinical and private treatment, as in the political and public engagement of the subjects in the contemporary world. Hence the reflexive character attributed to such investigation, to apply to itself, which had as one of its axes that epistemological, in order to highlight the religious a priori that there is in all investigation of and interference in human subjectivity. In order to understand the current situation of the individuals that we are, individually and collectively, so that it could be adequately inquired, we provided to combine approaches from philosophy and psychoanalysis, which proved to be capable of contributing to reveal the psycho-political dimension of religion

The following research embraces the concepts about syncretism by the religious and cultural approach, showing the construction of identity through metamorphosis and utopia as a source of choices based on desires. Beginning these investigation we can observe a parallelism of historicity of one of the icons from the Brazilian Theater the Associação Teatro Oficina Uzyna Uzona demonstrating its process of identity metamorphosis through utopias possibilities without losing sight of historical facts and the concepts about syncretism of what refer to its approach onto the religious and cultural experiences, build within its identity. Elements interculturally grounded and juxtaposed with the social history, politics and economy found between the years of 1958 and 1982. In the elapse of this historiographical path we face the formation of an esthetic that would become the boundary of staging of Oficina, with its biggest part based in the Greek theater and the creation of the tragedy and its founder god Dionysus. Bold esthetic and irreverent conception that includes the audience as an actor during the staging, at the same time as Zé Celso internalizes in front of its desires, in his repertory, the experiencing of languages that surpass the limits of creation, seeking relate in a permanent dialogue the performing arts, the music, the religion, the video and the cinema. Entanglements that made possible the conception of many DVDs preserving the group memory. We extracted the filmography of its performing from OS SERTõES, based on the literary work of Euclides da Cunha, adapted by Zé Celso, putting special attention to the DVD: O HOMEM II Da Revolta ao Trans-Homem, appointing new meanings of the experiences in the religious symbolic filed, cross-culturally composed in a specific scene the image kiss comparing to the classic Euclides da Cunha, Os Sertões

Abstract: This thesis aims at understanding Kaingang cosmology by studing three rituais: the Kuiâ (shaman) Celebration, the Kikikoi Festival, and the Widowed Person's Purification Ritual. These three rituais symbolize different times which I called the three times o, the world, taking in to account the fact that the Kaingang cosmology rests on cycles of earth conflagration and regeneration. These rituais, even though borrowing some Christian symbols, are profoundly supported on their own conception of the world. They are justified by myths that, at the same time, are updated during the ritual celebration. Such rituais are related to the agriculture's celebration, the return of the dead for a reunion festivity with the living, and the later return to their original places. The study of the three mentioned rituais allows us to realize that the cosmological references of the Kaingang are founded on multireferencial symbols which re-cover themselves. The variations found can be accounted for either as the same ritual cycle that has been splitted up, or as the development of different traditions which, on the other hand express the same symbology: life on earth depends upon the destiny of the dead because society of the living is eternally recreated by the dead ancestors ("our trunk", "our ancienr). The Kaingang cosmology is also anchored on the possibility of the contact between distinct species of spirits which inhabit the cosmos. These contacts are made by means of the human communication capacity with those spirits and by the possible metamorphosis between different conditions of being

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe following paper analyzes the relevance of indigenous women within the Andean world and their lead role in the religious sphere, specifically during the “Extirpation of idolatries” in the Viceroyalty of Peru throughout the XVII century. The female religious authorities of the time fought against the imposition of the catholic religion and culture –brought by the Spanish into the American continent– and also for the survival of their customs. These women kept the Andean traditions and cults alive by re-adapting and energizing their own culture. This was achieved, in turn, thanks to the appropriation of the same strategies deployed by the catholic evangelists, as a way to resist the new domination and to preserve their world and their “Cosmos”, which was already starting to crack during the Colony.

This final paper approaches the relation between Greek religiosity, and the Attica tragedy in the final stage of Friedrich Nietzsche’s thinking and it intends to explain the relevance of the religion within the Hellenic cultural development process. It intends, from Nietzsche’s writings during the years of 1869 to 1875, handled by interpreters, Hellenists and old Greek texts, to achieve a clearer comprehension as religion, from which soil the Greek art has come, in a special way the tragedy. It is, therefore, an investigation of how in the light of the young Nietzsche´s Philosophy would have been articulated religiosity and art in ancient Greece

Abstract: This thesis examines the historical development of Atalaia, a village occupied by Kaingang Indians, which was established in the early nineteenth century by the colonial government of the Captaincy of São Paulo as part of its colonization plan for the Campos de Guarapuava region. Based on ecclesiastical records, census lists, and the writings of Francisco das Chagas Lima, a priest who remained in the village for 18 years, the thesis shows how the church developed a hierarchical classification scheme, subjecting the Indians to a system of subordination. At the same time, the work reveals indigenous forms of representation, analyzing the apparent acceptance of Christian rituals from the perspective of Kaingang politics and cosmology, where the conflicts and alliances that permeated this group¿s history followed a dualistic world view and the logic of a hierarchical factionalism. The dialectics of the encounter within the space of the village promoted the elaboration and construction of new social relations, since indigenous agency was expressed not only through conflicts with colonial interests, but also through the negotiation and adaptation of various forms of coexistence determined both by indigenous as well and colonial actors

Abstract: In this work, I shall present the results of research on the founding principles of the cosmogony of the Xavante people that I have developed with elder narrators and their translators. I intend to show that the major principie of creation of the Xavante world is transformation through which the creators bring into being the entities and ritual that constitute Xavante tradition. To do this, the creators have the power of romhõ and are referred to as romhõsi'wa, those who have power romhõ. Xavante cosmogony narrates exactly how, through this power, the romhõsi'wa act: they transform themselves into the moon, the sun, the animals and plants necessary for the life of the Xavante. I shall seek to show that they do this because they possess the principles of manifestation of certain cosmic possibilities that are contained in their ontological nature. This ontological quality confers to them the power to transform themselves into multiple beings manifesting themselves in their specific forms. The mythical beings conjugate in their very nature a double capacity to be and to become, for they manifest their phenomenal beings deriving from their very nature or essence. In the case of specific creators, they do this without losing their original nature. The romhõsi'wa possess a pre-science of what it is they have to do in order to create the world, and it is this knowing rowa'õno that will guide them, and each one of them will do what has to be done. The power of transforming themselves into beings derives from this ontological quality that allows the primordial beings to open the forms that are contained in principie in their ontological nature. These primordial beings are manifest in the world as human beings but contain within themselves the potential of transforming into multipIe beings that come into existence as such and, in the case of severa! primordial beings, they then retum to their human form. This leads us to examine the fundamental question of human form. What exactly does this mean in Xavante cosmogony, and how is it connected to the nature of the primordial beings, which Ieads us to examine more broadly the theme of humanity. By accompanying the modes in which the romhõsi'wa creators act, I hope to make a contribution to the question of transformationism, rethinking what its real difference is with creatiotúsm. Guided by the Xavante elders and their translators, I have chosen from the vast corpus of cosmogonic stories, ten key myths with which I will work in this thesis. Of these ten myths, one of them (The Time of Darkness) actually contains two myths (the creation of the Moon and the Sun, and the story of the Sky) but which are told in the same narrative context, such that in fact we have eleven myths. These provide us with a valuable view of Xavante cosmogony and contribute to the understanding of other indigenous cosmologies. I hope to be able, in a future work, to expand the view of Xavante cosmology by considering other myths

This research aims to make a unique and original contribution in the field of human communication. Part of the study carried out on "the Inaugural Ceremony of the Olympic Games of Barcelona'92" with the aim of understanding the design of its "ritual engineering", discovering its internal semantics, its relationship with the different moments in the development of the Olympic Games and also to deepen the understanding of contemporary ritual reality. The investigation of rituality integrates knowledge and concepts from various social sciences such as communication theory, sociology, anthropology, psychology and history. The investigation is structured in three parts. In the first part I present the main theoretical contributions about the Olympic Games, rituality and ritual communication. In the second part, I outline the essential aspects of the methodology and present the results obtained in the fieldwork. In the third part, together with the synthesis on the cultural dimension of the Olympic Games and how the Inaugural Ceremony was built and structured, I present an analysis of the Ceremony through a system of communicative fringes that includes the following variables: music, public , verbal communication, scenography and kinesics. In the Conclusions, considering rituality as a communicative product and a tool for social involvement and influence, I present the main results of the research in relation to the ritual dimension of the Olympic Games and the Opening Ceremony of the Barcelona Games. The knowledge of ritual language allows us to better understand the sociocultural context in which we live and assess the effectiveness of contemporary ritual in a globalized world.

This is a study about Roman Catholicism appropriations in Maturuca, an indigenous community at Raposa Serra do Sol Homeland, in Roraima, Brazil, where the central characters are the Makuxi, the most numerous ethnic group of the state. It aims at describing and analyzing, in a socioanthropological perspective, the uses these indigenous make of Roman Catholicism and how they resignify Christian teachings in the border outlined by Consolata Institute Missionaries evangelizing actions and cultural traditions of their people. Among the characteristics that reconfigure the relations between universal Catholicism and the indigenous local community, the harmony built between the evangelizing project and the Raposa Serra do Sol Homeland defense indicates the type of Catholicism offered in the village, marked by Liberation Theology principles, and opens a field for reflection on the contextualization of the Bible message and indigenous cultural traditions. For understanding the dynamics of these ties in an ethnic context, this research adopted interview proceedings, field notes and participation, as direct as possible, in the many activities lived by the Makuxi in their everyday life, especially those with religious connotation. Thus, the study focused on two sets of practices: the Christmas Mass and the Way of the Cross, as institutional rituals offered by the Roman Catholic Church, as well as Makuxi`s Christmas Feast and the ceremony named the Climbing of the Mountain (Subida da Serra), as rites marked mainly by evocation and reelaboration of these indigenous traditions. The many different forms of Roman Catholicism appropriations in the Makuxi community reveal the complexity of relations located on the narrow zones of cultural frontiers, for their dynamic, combinatory, permeable and unexpected nature.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis doctoral thesis analyses historical transformation and violence among the Maxakali people, whose language is classified as belonged to the branch of the Macro-Gê language family. Not too long ago, the Maxakalis used to live togheter in T I. Maxakali, situated in Bertópolis and Santa Helena de Minas, municipal districits located in the boundary between the state of Minas Gerais and the state of Bahia. Nevertheless, between 2003 and 2005 a violent conflict happened and, as a result, many people were murdered and part of the population was expelled from the territory. This scenario grabbed the attention to the necessity of understanding how the Maxakali people make this conflict part of their social life, associating the extreme forms of violence to some of the destructive manifestations which emerge from their social life. Attached to this objective, I carried out fieldwork between 2004 and 2007. Furthermore, I did a bibliographic research that could make me develop an approach to this phenomenon. By the end of this research, It is my conviction that the Maxakali people´s social life disposes of constitutive processes through the instauration of mechanisms of modification, which can assume some violent features. Thus, it is observed that both public wars and quotidian conflicts (such as, domestic conflicts) dispose of practices able to reformulate great part of Maxakali culture against the articulation of this mechanism in the symbolic system built by their myths and rituals. Thus, the aspects related to a certain type of anthropology, which privileges historical permanencies projecting these values in the concrete society analysed by them, even when everything indicates the inverse are not able to analyse the complex multifaceted sociopolitical horizon of the Maxakalis people. In order to measure this universe carefully, we needed to propose an approach open and plural, which could incorporate effectively controversial phenomena into the analyses, without reducing the explanation of these phenomena

This study is about the urgency of an ethical and aesthetically mindful School for the humans who compose it. It s based on the indigenous myth of The Stone Home , of the Mỹky people. In this myth, House and Way appear like archetypes that intertwine themselves with the stillness and the wager, as who s dreaming of Walking from the Home to the hope that will be the construction of the coziness. The desire inside this work is a School that can be a cozy place. In this School, living together with the Other, we wagered in the not-yet dream, that will only be extant, if we leave Home and, from it, start an ethical-aesthetical way of living. The School is the necessary ethos of developing life in its totality; it is the Home from where students gaze at the way and build possible dreams, pro-ject the possible Utopia. Finally, a curriculum that rouse to the delight, then the desire of this Walking will be, itself, Aesthetic. Otherwise, it will not be creative Walking, it will be blunting. Similarly, the aesthetical dimension is, necessarily, an opened Way; it is curriculum. Walking is aesthetically building curriculum. This work´s purpose is to transform curriculum into verb and it is certain that it will be ethos for the tempting action of the human way of being educated and educator

The method structured by friar Bernardino de Sahagún to describe the ancient rituals of the mexica feasts, reveals a deepest sense behind the enormous compilation of the ancient mexica habits and beliefs done by the Franciscan in his chronicle Historia General de las cosas de Nueva España (General History of the things of New Spain). Once Sahagún considered the ancient mexica feasts as idolatry ceremonies , such descriptions expressed two of the main purposes of the missionary: to know the ancient indigenous ritualistic practices and identify any clue of its survival. On the other hand, the descriptions brought to light the main difficulties that Sahagún faced trying to understand and to translate the diversity, the other, that goes much further than the systematic descriptions of the mexica rituals, the organization of its terms and vocables, and the questions that were part of his questionnaire. They also reflected the complex missionary context which friar Bernardino was inserted and which was reflected in his chronicle. Among the eighteen feasts that took place throughout the mexica solar calendar, we have chosen seven of them, connected to the agricultural cycle and which main elements they remitted to, formed an extremely important group in the native cosmovision: water, rain, corn, hills and fire. They are rituals of the vintenas: I Atlcaoalo; IV Huey tozoztli; VI Etzalcualiztli; XI Ochpaniztli; XIII Tepeílhuitl; XVI Atemoztli e XVIII Izcalli. The purpose of this research is to analyze the method structured by friar Bernardino to describe the rituals of these specific vintenas, which was his path of description and what he would be actually saying

This work speaks of travel, routes and roots of populations of oral traditions marajoaras, holders of local knowledge, in contact with Western knowledge learned. Your time is located at the confluence of shared contacts, permitted or denied between fields and forests, surprised in writing and orally to chroniclers, religious, travelers, literary scholars, writers and other storytellers. The original motto of these crossings is part of the 1930s, when the Order of Augustinians Recollects in Madrid, took over direction of the Christian faith and began to address letters of a sacramental Catholicism in areas of large islands. The direction given by the Augustinians, to return to her missionary upset with the expulsion of religious orders at the Pombalino Consulate, enhanced memory of Father Antonio Vieira and brought the challenge to review the documentation produced by the regular features for understanding identity, knowledge and traditions native or in diasporas in the Heart of the Amazon. These discoveries raised the research boat to revisit previous cultural borders, networks of sociability and conflict cobbled by indigenous peoples, African, mixed in with groups intermediations in power this colonial period. Inspired by Cultural Studies with emphasis in Latin American thought, the plots of this text also presents the social place granted by Amazon historiography to the paradisiacal Marajó and the complex differences and similarities in d form of historical Marajós. Inside of chronicles, memories and reports made by the Augustinians in his pastoral experience with residents of the region, is visible buildings, guidelines, negotiations, loneliness and limits of life in that dynamic environments require the unknown island condition human foreign. So, systems of waters, spaces of fields and forests turned into weapons socio-cultural contacts, sometimes uneven, insurgents, involving marajoaras, religious, political and economic elites from the regional between the colony and emerging time today. At the heart of these meetings, and trade disputes in yesterday and today, universes of beliefs, rituals and wisdom are strongly followed in local activities of work, fights against diseases, battles against the adversities of life experiences and cultural practices as party, prayers, songs, dance, without losing sight of gimmicks, transgression, (in) tolerances for men and women agree marajoaras the reconfiguration and reaffirmation of their cultural identities afroindígenas

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis analyzes the religious elements in the Selk’nam and Mapuche cultures from a comparative perspective. The emphasis is placed on their history and cultural practices, as well as the geographical situation of the territories inhabited by both human groups. By using anthropological and historical approaches, analytical observations and reflections are made concerning spirituality in general and cosmovision in particular, examining myths, rituals, symbols and the most varied religious expressions that constitute a diverse corpus of beliefs. This work uses a methodology characteristic of ethnohistory, with a focus on the anthropology and history of religions. It includes the discussion on this discipline’s suitability for the study of indigenous peoples, considering both the methodological issues —such as religiocentrism— and the ethnocentric implications of previous works, as well as those derived from the processes of religious syncretism and evangelization. An emphasis is placed on the theoretical discussion about the concept of religion from an Americanist point of view, with the purpose of examining the idea of a supreme being or of supreme beings in the indigenous peoples, identifying the processes of cultural and religious domination, and analyzing the historical legacy of both cultures on the basis of documents by chroniclers, travelers, militaries and official authorities.

ABSTRACT: The Egyptian period, known as The New Kingdom, extended from 1560 B.C. to 1170 B.C. It was a particularly impressive era and the most well known to the contemporary world, especially after Howard Carter’s discovery of Tutankhamen tomb, in 1922. The New Kingdom produced not only this young king, but also the female pharaoh Hatshepsut, Thutmose III, Amenhotep III, Ramses II, and many others great rulers. The territories that these pharaohs expanded through war, diplomacy and trade brought to Egypt centuries of economic prosperity and relative political stability. The spoils from many military campaigns and the tribute paid by conquered states were translated, for example, in a tremendous urban activity: new temples were builted; others were restored or enlarged. Especially favored were the god Amun and his great temple at Karnak. With many local and national gods, the religion in ancient Egypt explained the mysteries of the Universe and acted as social glue. This relation to the supernatural faces many social and historical aspects as rich as the religion itself. Based on current authors and in contemporary sources, this work studies one of the most important aspects of Egyptian religiosity during the New Kingdom - the celebration of great religious festivals. They consisted in important festivities, like the Opet Festival, the Beautiful Feast of the Valley or the Khoiak Festivals, centered on processions by land and river between different temples, and were celebrated on specials days of the year. On these occasions, each god left his sanctuary in his own sacred bark and allowed the only opportunity for the general public to have some contact with the deity’s image. The popular carousing also consisted of eating bread and meat and drinking beer. On many occasions, the food consumed appears to have been provided by the temple priests. In the end, these festivals contributed not only to a proper transmission of religious values, but also for the maintenance of social peace and Egyptian royalty.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleWith the work here presented, we intend to unravel the process of cultural massification of one of the most important phenomena of old mythology: the death and resurrection of a god, one fundamental feature in the erection of christian monotheism. Methodologically, we'll resort on a comparison between two big groups in which we divide the reality we'll analyze: the Bronze Age and the Iron Age. The first corresponds to a closed society, whereas the in the second we find a democratized and globalized universe, a reality only possible due to the explosion of Greek and Phoenician explorations, and to the invention of the more accessible alphabetic writing. We'll depart with four Bronze Age mythological cycles (which refer to Gilgameš, Inanna, Osir and Baal) to comprehend how the inevitability of the death in these great cycles was built, managing some of the most important symbolic aspects (the fall to the underworld, death, the primordial fight, Chaos, the sacrificial banquet and the resurrection, alongside with the ideological parallel of the own idea of monarch and monarchy). In the Iron Age, we find a cultural context from which emerges a much stronger bond between the individual and the divinity. Here, after we perceive the arrival of the aspiration for immortality, we'll notice multiple texts that reveal how the Bronze Age mythological content was popularized, but now beyond the walls of the palaces: near the commercial harbors and the new populational dynamics. We end up in the figure of Jesus, and in the way some mythological elements consolidated throughout the millenniums can be found reunited under the narratives of the christian messiah, operating fully as a semantic methodology of cultural transmission, an evangelization through this religious idiom: the symbology of death, then already so widespread in the Mediterranean.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe present thesis with the title O Desvelar da Categoria Transpessoal; Uma Visão para a Filosofia, A Psicologia e a Mitologia nas Obras de Eudoro de Sousa, Vicente e Dora Ferreira da Silva in the area of investigation known as “Philosophy of Culture” - is dedicated to three authors of relevance in an important historical period for the Portuguese poetical and philosophical thought. The philosophical production of Vicente Ferreira da Silva (1916-1963), Brazilian author and of his wife, the philosopher, thinker and poet Dora Ferreira da Silva (1918-2006) and of Portuguese born Eudoro de Sousa (1911-1987) are analyzed in what concerns the concept of transpersonal, as a philosophical category. The choice of these authors – creators of works with a trans-disciplinary vision of the above-mentioned concepts - was crucial for the proposed research The thesis sustained, besides explaining their positon regarding the transpersonal category - aims to identify common traits between the authors in this light, wishing, at the same time, to contribute towards clarifying the reasons behind the main differences found between these authors regarding this subject, i.e the philosophical category of the transpersonal. This philosophical category, also treated by psychology (namely in the work of Carl Gustav Jung) is deeply connected to the imaginatio prototípica divina. The theoretical basis of the concept of the “unconscious” – Unbewuβte – originated from the eminent German idealism philosopher Schelling and was later thematised and popularised by the psychologist Carl Gustav Jung’s work. In our thesis, we start from this concept trying to show how it developed in the philosophical category of the transpersonal. We aim to elucidate how mythical narratives and a philosophy of Mythology (based in a certain interpretation of Mithos) has been associated with the concept of transpersonal. Among the key concepts articulated with the transpersonal category in these three authors we have highlighted as more relevant those of :“Sophia”- wisdom as an archetype of poetry linked to the origin of philosophical thought; Poiésis – as the manifestation of a creative power residing in the soul and very closely related to psychology; Psyché and Physis as concepts the authors explore directly with the category of nature. The transpersonal is treated as a main feature in the authors studied here, as the philosophical possibility of going beyond the human ontological experience, a journey leading to an amplified self-knowledge – as attested in the experience of poetry (Dora Ferreira da Silva ‘s Christian mysticism in articulation with the poet and thinker Fernando Pessoa, Eudoro de Sousa and Greek poetry and pre-Helenic mythology from the Mycenae age), in the experience of Eudoro de Sousa’s work Mythology (in articulation with Martin Heidegger’s later works) or even in the concepts coming the from German philosophical tradition present in the philosophical writings of Brazilian philosopher Vicente Ferreira da Silva.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis sets out to examine the notion of isefet, as it is found in the Coffin Texts arising from the Middle Kingdom of Ancient Egypt (c. 1980-1640 B.C.). It is our contention that a full-fledged analysis of the concept will help to shed light not only on the understanding of the concept itself, but also on the overall structure of these funerary texts. The conceptualization hereby proposed is particularly pertinent to the extent that, during the transition from the Old to the Middle Kingdom, one is able to discern a flourishing and a ramification of the dialectic maet/isefet. However, of the two maet has been, within the field of egyptological studies, the most exhaustively explored topic, whilst isefet has not yet merited substantial study, even though the categories of «disorder» undoubtedly call for a broader discussion. Methodologically, the research is based on textual passages taken from the selected corpus which explicitly mention the term isefet, so as to insure a consistent analysis which will then contribute to a better understanding of the conceptualization and to the consolidation of its field of meanings. We will thus try to conduct an essentially heuristic analysis which is framed by two dimensions: a more formal approach (embodied in an immediate context and language analysis) and a more interpretative approach (embodied in an extensive context analysis). In view of the magical-ritual nature of the Coffin Texts, we have chosen to inscribe this dissertation within the «implicit theology» theorization put forth by Jan Assmann, the ritual and constellative sacred practice which rests on the contact with the divine in all its cultic, cosmic, and mythical dimensions. It is our aim to highlight the level of ritual performitivity which allows us to understand these texts in their specific symbolic and chronological framework and in their operability.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis aims to present a historical interpretation of the Moirai in Ancient Greek Religion starting from what we know of their cult. This choice differs strongly from the majority of works on the subject, that have been focused on moira and fate in Greek culture, particularly in Homer. Throughout this thesis we propose that the traditional definition of the Moirai as «goddesses of Fate» is an insufficient characterization and might signalize a more concerning conceptual problem in historiography. We have found that the cults allow us to rethink the various mythological narratives related to the Moirai as well as propose an alternative reading of their place as minor divinities in the history of Greek Religion. In order to overcome the relative lack of documentation for the study of these goddesses, we made use of a variety of different sources, albeit limited, when related to cult, to the areas of continental and insular Greece, and the western coast of Asia Minor. Source material related to myth, ritual, ancient beliefs and the cults themselves was privileged for our analysis but, however, there is an inevitable overrepresentation of Pausanias' testimony which, in our opinion, might be somewhat mediated by his own belief, preferences and bias against the goddesses when concerning himself with matters related to the Moirai in his travels.
