The AxMEDIS 2006 International Conference seeks to promote discussion and exchange of ideas amongst researchers, practitioners, developers and users of tools, technology transfer experts, and project managers. This conference series brings together a variety of participants from the academic, business and industrial worlds, to address the emergent research and technological issues as well as the engineering and commercial challenges of large-scale collaborative production and distribution of media as experienced by the associated industrial sectors in the emergent media markets. The conference focuses on the outstanding problems to be resolved in the new age of media computing including cross-domain production, protection, representation, formatting, aggregation, workflow, distribution and business and transaction models i.e. all lifecycle aspects of the new media value chain management. Additionally it explores the integration of new forms of content, content management systems and distribution chains, with particular emphasis on cost structures re-engineering to support the reduction of costs and the integration of innovative solutions to facilitate complex creative collaboration in cross-domain media production with benefit realisation to all stakeholders through optimised rights-protective multichannel distribution.

Annotation:
To understand how people experience diversity, researchers have focused on category-based perceptions of others who belong to different social groups and the subsequent impact on intergroup dynamics. Specifically, scholars have focused on the automaticity of such categorizations, including stereotyping and implicit bias. This chapter will discuss these automatic, nonconscious processes, including their antecedents and their association with and effects on individual, group, and organizational outcomes. Given the automaticity of such processes, measurement strategies and suggestions for their use in future research will also be discussed.

Annotation:
Despite high spending on family benefits and the high poverty reduction effectiveness of cash benefits, the risk of child poverty in Hungary have been higher than the EU average since the early 1990s in which the relatively high share of children in very low work-intensity households played a significant role. The crisis period brought an even higher poverty risk for children. According to the chapter’s findings, the increase in child poverty in the first phase of the crisis was driven by labour market processes (an increasing share of children in low work-intensity households), while the automatic stabilizers reduced the magnitude of these effects. By contrast, in the second phase, labour market processes started to improve (although mainly through controversial policy tools, like public work and outward migration), though the shift towards a regressive social policy regime contributed to increased poverty rates via the reduced poverty reduction impacts of cash benefits.

Annotation:
The computed tomography (CT) medical examination is the highest single source of radiation to the general public in the developed world. Its use is rapidly growing, as is its technical complexity. The primary dosimetry formalism is based on the computed tomography dose index (CTDI), which can be measured in air or in standard phantoms using a calibrated pencil ionization chamber with adaptations for wide beam scanners. Displayed dose parameters can be used with caution to estimate patient organ doses, effective dose, and risk, using a variety of models and software. An understanding of automatic exposure control and the influence of patient size is essential when interpreting dosimetry results. CT examination protocols require optimisation, including the appropriate use of newly available dose reduction features. Particular consideration needs to be given to paediatric CT and to specialist applications such as radiotherapy planning, cardiac CT and volume imaging.

Liang, Xiaodon. Curbing Illicit Financial Flows. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198805373.003.0013.

Annotation:
Illicit financial flows (IFFs) drain state finances and economic vitality, with disproportionate impact on developing economies. IFFs—including money laundering, tax evasion, and tax avoidance—pose a transnational problem addressed so far through international regimes of coordination and cooperation. But meaningful reductions in IFFs require addressing the root of the problem: information asymmetries. Developed nations and tax havens know where money is hidden and profits are made, while developing nations do not. Since the international system of global finance creates the incentive structure and permissive environment for illicit flows, it is at this level that states must focus their policy-making attention. New information-sharing mechanisms, such as automatic exchange of tax information and public country-by-country tax reporting, can level the playing field and enable lower-income states to effectively address the IFF problem.
