Purpose:This study aimed to describe the reverse digital artery cross-finger flap (RDAC flap) in the treatment of failed finger replantation.Methods:This study retrospectively reviewed the records of patients who underwent modified RDAC flap reconstructions for failed finger replantation and assessed their outcomes. Of the patients who underwent soft tissue reconstructions for finger injuries between March 2011 and February 2015, we enrolled 11 patients in whom RDAC flap reconstruction procedures were performed to treat the failed replantations.Results:The flaps survived in all cases, with a mean static, two-point discrimination value of 5.3 mm (range, 4–7 mm) in the healed flaps. The sizes of the flaps ranged from 2 × 1 cm2to 2.3 × 1.5 cm2.Conclusion:The RDAC flap was introduced by Lai et al., and it is a mixed form with the advantages of both cross-finger flap and heterodigital island flap. Our results suggest that it could provide reliable coverage of the sensate soft tissue of fingers with failed replantation.

Tracking the maximum output power of a photovoltaic (PV) cell is an important problem to harvest more energy at different weather and load conditions. This paper presents the design and simulation of a robust direct adaptive controller (RDAC) for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) device based on boost converter topology. A mathematical model is developed, and a suitable RDAC is designed for MPPT device, and simulations are performed using MATLAB/Simulink to verify the controller’s robustness at varying operating conditions. The real-time irradiance and temperature data are used on an hourly basis to test the suggested MPPT adaptive controller for a typical sunny day in summer and winter. The simulation results show that the RDAC performs excellent tracking under varying conditions such as irradiance, temperature, load, boost converter inductance, and capacitance.

As controlling temperature and humidity is crucial for maintaining comfort and preventing microbial growth, operating rooms (ORs) are the most energy-intensive areas in hospitals. We aimed to evaluate the energy consumption of three dehumidification air conditioning systems used in ORs and their corresponding air quality for ORs at rest. This study selected three ORs using a conventional heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system; a liquid desiccant air conditioning (LDAC) system; and a rotary desiccant air conditioning (RDAC) system, respectively. The indoor thermal–hygrometric conditions, air quality, and energy consumption of the ORs were monitored in this study. The median levels of relative humidity (RH) were 66.7% in the OR using the conventional HVAC system, 60.8% in the OR using the LDAC system, and 60.5% in the OR using the RDAC system. The median daily total energy consumption of the RDAC system (10.1 kWh/m2) and LDAC system (11.8 kWh/m2) were 28.12% and 16.54% lower, respectively, than that of the conventional HVAC system (14.1 kWh/m2). The PM≥0.5 levels and airborne bacterial concentrations in the ORs met the ISO 14644-1 Class 7 standard and China’s GB50333-2013 standard, respectively. The RDAC system was clearly superior to the LDAC and conventional HVAC systems in terms of energy consumption.

Data security in e-markets is vital to maintaining trust among trading partners. In an e-market, companies must share information to improve operational efficiency in their supply chains, while at the same time, access to sensitive information by rival companies should be prevented. In today’s highly dynamic business environment, the relationships among companies in e-markets are constantly changing while these relationships determine how company information should be shared with other companies. In this paper, the authors show that existing access control models are not designed for managing data security in e-markets with dynamic company relationships and propose a Relationship Driven Access Control (RDAC) model to provide a better solution. In particular, the authors design a rule-based approach for managing dynamic company relationships and a secure query processing mechanism to filter shared information based on company relationships. A prototype system is developed to demonstrate and validate the authors’ RDAC model.

This article charts the evolving role of Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) in Poland. It argues that changes to regional institutional and policy environments, linked to processes of regionalisation, EU accession, and the administration of European Union structural funds, have prompted increasing diversification of RDA activities. Moreover, questions of democratic accountability and economic efficiency are becoming increasingly pointed. Has regionalisation boosted the democratic accountability and regional orientation of agencies? Has administrative reform simplified agencies' delivery of development programmes? What influence has the administration of structural funds had on this? The article explores these issues, stressing generally that theoretical analyses of RDA activities must take increasing account of agency “positioning,” i.e., their role and purpose in an increasingly crowded and complex regional policy arena. Future scenarios for the evolution of RDAs in Poland are also outlined.

Wireless communication technologies continue to evolve to meet the demand for increased data throughput. To achieve higher data throughput one approach is to increase the bandwidth. One problem related to very large bandwidths is the implementation of digital-to-analog converters with sampling rates roughly in the 5 to 20 GHz range. Traditionally, current-steering data converters have been the go-to choice but their linearity suffers at higher frequencies. An alternative to the current-steering digital-to-analog converter is the voltage-mode digital-to-analog converter, which is an attractive option for integration into digital intensive application-specific integrated circuits due to its digital-in-nature architecture. In this thesis, a resistive voltage-mode digital-to-analog converter with an integrated low-dropout voltage regulator is proposed for a sampling rate of 16 GSps. The proposed resistive voltage-mode digital-to-analog converter with an output impedance matched to a 100 Ω load, achieves a spurious-free dynamic range of 64 dBc and intermodulation distortion of 66 dBc for output frequencies up to 5.5 GHz in the worst process corner.

High-speed digital-to-analog converters are critical components in many radiofrequency (RF) applications. The resistive DAC (RDAC) architecture is suitable for high-speed implementation in extremely scaled digital circuit nodes. An RDAC core can be implemented as a resistance network and a digital block, consisting of inverters as drivers to the resistive network. One disadvantage of the architecture is the input code-dependent supply current. Combined with a non-zero supply network impedance, the code-dependent current will introduce non-linearity in the output voltage. One way to circumvent the problem is to use a high-performance voltage regulator, which counteracts the voltage variation in the impedance in the RDAC supply network. In this thesis work, two alternative solutions are investigated; Compensation with another signal-dependent impedance in parallel with the RDAC core to reduce the impedance variations and a digital predistorter (DPD) which corrects the non-linearities of RDAC output voltage. The investigated techniques can be used for improving the linearity of an RDAC in certain cases. The current compensation technique works best at low frequencies, while the DPD can be used for all frequencies to relax requirements on routing resistance or voltage regulation design.

Einmal der Aufbau einer Gemeinsamen Normdatei (GND) und die Einführung eines neuen Regelwerks, „Resource Description and Access (RDA)“. Das Regelwerk soll die bislang geltenden RAK ablösen und nicht nur für Bibliotheken, sondern auch für Archive und Museen zur Verfügung stehen. Da die verschiedenen Normdateien auf unterschiedlichen Datenmodellen und Formaten basieren, wird an einer Zusammenführung der Normdatenbanken in eine einheitliche Normdatei gearbeitet.

This thesis investigates the prevention of error propagation in magnetically recorded compressed data when severe environmental conditions result in uncorrected channel errors. The tape format DDS is examined and a computer simulation of its error correction procedures is described. This software implementation uses explicit parity byte equations and these are presented for all three Reed-Solomon codes. The simulation allows the calculation of the uncorrected error patterns when the recording is compromised and uncorrected byte errors are determined for given initial random and burst errors. Some of the more familiar data compression algorithms are visited before the little known adaptive Rice algorithm is described in detail. An analytic example is developed which demonstrates the coding mechanism. A synchronized piecewise compression strategy is adopted in which the synchronizing sequences are placed periodically into the compressed data stream. The synchronizing sequences are independent of the compression algorithm and may occur naturally in the compressed data stream. A cyclic count is added to the compressed data stream to number the groups of data between synchronizing sequences and prevent slippage in the data. The Rice algorithm is employed in the strategy to compress correlated physical data. A novel compressor is developed to compress mixed correlated physical data and text within the synchronization strategy. This compressor uses the Rice algorithm to compress the correlated data and a sliding window algorithm to compress the text and switches between the two algorithms as the data type varies. The sliding window compressor T.ZR is adopted when the same principles are applied to the robust compression of English text alone. TJ7R is modified to improve compression of relatively small pieces of English text. The synchronization strategy incorporating these algorithms has been simulated computationally. This simulation is linked to that of DDS in each test performed when the errors are both random and bursty. The decompressed data is compared to the original. The strategy is demonstrated to be effective in preventing error propagation beyond the data immediately affected by errors without significant damage to the compression ratio.

L'étude porte sur l'évolution du milieu des bibliothecaires de RDA entre 1945 et 1989. Le cas des personnels ayant exercé dans les institutions détude et de recherche est plus particulierement évoque, à travers l'exploitation de dossiers d'archives et d'entretiens. La reconstitution des cadres institutionnels de la profession et de la politique menée par l'état est allemand est completée par une analyse du recrutement social et politique des personnels, qui montre l'inadéquation entre les prédispositions du milieu et les missions idéologiques qui lui étaient confiées. Un autre phéńomène marquant réside dans l'ascension sociale connue par la plupart des bibliothécaires, en raison du manque chronique de main d'oeuvre qualifiée. Même lorsque les origines sociales des professionnels n'étaient pas conformes aux prescriptions des tutelles, l'extension des responsabilités a alors favorise ́une forme d'adaptationà l'ordre et́abli. Dans ce contexte, les remises en cause des directives ont etété rares et des arrangements informels ont pu être trouvés avec les supérieurs hiérarchiques. Si la faible reconnaissance de la profession et de ses activités par les pouvoirs politiques et administratifs a permis le maintien de certaines marges de manoeuvre, elle a aussi contribué à la dégradation de la situation materielle des bibliothèques, manifeste a partir des années soixante. Les difficultés budgétaires ont provoqué un effritement du consensus et de l'identification à la RDA, en cristallisant les conflits. Les pratiques professionnelles constituent une dernière perspective. L'étude prend sur ce point en compte l'évolution de quelques fonctions essentielles (acquisitions, indexation, bibliographie, animation), en confrontant les directives avec les activites concrètes des bibiothécaires. Dans ce cadre, une place importante est reservée a la question de la censure<br>This study is focussed on the evolution of the environment of librarians in the GDR between 1945 and 1989. The situation of those working in institutions of education and research has been more particularly investigated by use of archive material and interviews. The thorough description of the institutional framework comprising the profession and its goals by the East German state is completed by an analysis of the social and political background of personel recruited to the profession. This analysis shows the fundamental contradiction between the professional sensitivities of librarians and the ideological mission they were alloted. A second striking phenomenon was the rapid rise in social status from which many librarians profited because of the lack of qualified staff. This occurred even when personel were not from prescribed social backgrounds. The diffusion of responsability favoured an informal adaption to the status quo. In this context the questioning of orders occurred rarely and informal arrangements between staff and their superiors were frequent. Although the low esteem of the political powers for the profession and its activities opened a certain margin of manoever, it also lead to the material depreciation of libraries observed since the sixties. Budgetary shotfalls promoted an erosion of the consensus, respect for the GDR and precipitated conflict. Lastly professional practices are analized. The evolution of a disparity between official directives and the concrete activities of librarians can be established with respect to certain key functions (acquisitions, cataloging, bibliography, publicity, etc. ). In this context the question of censorship has been emphasized

The United States National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) initiative offers a framework to facilitate integrative research to clarify core mechanisms of human mental distress and dysfunction. The RDoC was developed to provide an alternative to research, designed around clinical syndromes based on descriptive diagnosis. Rather than beginning with a syndrome and then working ‘down’ to clarify mechanisms, the aim of the RDoC is to guide research that begins with disruptions in neurobiological and behavioural mechanisms, and then works across systems to clarify connections among such disruptions and clinical symptoms. The RDoC also departs from widely accepted categorical diagnoses, instead advocating a dimensional account of clinically significant variance in disrupted mechanisms and symptoms. The need for the RDoC stemmed from the realization that psychopathology research was not keeping pace with advances in clinical neuroscience and behavioural science, and the recognition that the cycle of scientific progress has been hampered by the instantiation of DSM diagnoses as the starting point of psychiatric research design. This chapter details the rationale and development of the RDoC and describes their structure. Some practical considerations and theoretical matters for implementing the RDoC alternative are considered.

This paper describes testing an axial turbine response when driven by a Rotating Detonation Combustor (RDC). A T63 (C20-250) gas turbine is modified by replacing the combustor with a RDC. The stator vanes of the T63 are heavily instrumented for measurement of flow enthalpy and pressure. The engine is run at multiple power levels with the stock combustor using JetA and hydrogen fuel. The engine is then modified to have an open loop configuration, and is run with both the RDC and the stock combustor hardware with hydrogen fuel. Temperature pattern factor, flow unsteadiness, and turbine component efficiency are measured for all setups. High speed pressure transducers show substantially higher unsteadiness generated by the RDC than the conventional combustor. RDC turbine component efficiencies are compared to the conventional combustor. Results suggest that RDC unsteadiness does not significantly impact turbine efficiency.

Dual energy CT (DECT) has become a hot topic for its high detection precision and robust material identification ability in the field of nuclear safety and security inspection. However, the high cost of the system becomes a big limitation for its wide usage. To solve this problem, in 2009, we have proposed a dual energy CT reconstruction method with reduced data (DECT-RD) requiring much fewer data to reduce the cost of detectors. However, it is a simple idea without more analyzing in the process of solving ill-posed equations. In this paper, we tried to solve ill-posed equations with constraint condition (DECT-RDCC) and least squares (DECT-RDLS) respectively. Numerical simulations are done by using DECT-RD, DECT-RDCC and DECT-RDLS in the same situation, only 7 dual energy detector bins instead of 256 complete bin sampling in each projection. Results demonstrated that DECT-RDCC with relative error less than 1.1% is better than DECT-RD with relative error less than 1.8% while DECT-RDLS plays a more exact and steady role with relative error less than 0.6% than DECT-RDCC. Hence, DECT-RDLS is a better method used to obtain much lower system cost. We believe this work will drive DECT into wide usage.

Pressure gain combustion (PGC) has been conceived to convert fuel’s chemical energy into thermal energy and mechanical energy, thereby reducing the entropy production in the process. Recent research has shown that the rotating detonation combustion or combustor (RDC) can provide excellent specific thrust, specific impulse, and pressure gain within a small volume through rapid energy release by continuous detonation in the circumferential direction. The RDC as a PGC system for power generating gas turbines in combined cycle power plants could provide significant efficiency gains. However, few past studies have employed fuels that are relevant to power generation turbines, since RDC research has focused mainly on propulsion applications. In this study, we present experimental results from RDC operated on methane and oxygen-enriched air to represent reactants used in land-based power generation. The RDC is operated at a high pressure by placing a back-pressure plate downstream of the annular combustor. Past studies have focused mainly on probe measurements inside the combustor, and thus, little information is known about the nature of the products exiting the RDC. In particular, it is unknown if chemical reactions persist outside the RDC annulus, especially if methane is used as the fuel. In this study, we apply two time-resolved optical techniques to simultaneously image the RDC products at framing rate of 30 kHz: (1) direct visual imaging to identify the overall size and extent of the plume, and (2) OH* chemiluminescence imaging to detect the reaction zones if any. Results show dynamic features of the combustion products that are consistent with the probe measurements inside the RDE. Moreover, presence of OH* in the products suggests that the oblique shock wave and reactions persist downstream of the detonation zone in the RDC.
