This article investigates the conception of and attitude towards the ‘beyond’ in the work of the twentieth-century poets Rainer Maria Rilke and James Merrill, arguing for striking similarities in this regard despite the two poets being of different generations, nationalities, and languages. While the influence of poets such as W. B. Yeats and W. H. Auden on Merrill has been thoroughly illustrated by others, this essay aims to illustrate the no less paramount but less often discussed influence of Rilke, especially in matters regarding the spiritual.

W pierwszej części artykułu opisuje problemy metodologiczne związane z badaniami frekwencji i kategorii wiekowych, a następnie wskazuje najważniejsze zależności między kategoriami wiekowymi a liczbą widzów kinowych. Annotation:
The paper presents a modified three-level model of possible relations between different cultures proposed by W. Welsh. There have been outlined multicultural, intercultural and transcultural aspects of such relations. The model is exemplified by the translations of Bohdan Kravtsiv. Life circumstances forced Kravtsiv to leave Ukraine and spend his life abroad. He had to work on his translations in different countries and cultures. Just like other cultures influenced his way of thinking, life experience and poetic creativity, due to his political, social, poetic, and translation activities, he himself influenced the cultures he was immersed in and where he was involved in the creative activity. Remoteness from Ukraine did not make the poet and translator break off his relations with his home country. In the Diaspora he did his best to help Ukrainians, replenish the poetic translations of the Ukrainian literature, retain memories of the repressed poets, enrich Ukrainian cultural heritage (transcultural aspect). The language personality of Bohdan Kravtsiv as a translator is considered in terms of his translations of Rainer Maria Rilke's poetry. The structure of the language personality of the translator encompasses verbal, cognitive and pragmatic-motivational levels. The paper focuses on the analysis of Kravtsiv’s translations of Rilke's poems into Ukrainian. It has revealed Kravtsiv’s brilliant mastery of the poetic word. The translations of Rilke's poems performed by Kravtsiv testify to the translator's efforts to remain faithful to the form and content of the original. In spite of the different morphological and phonetic structures of German and Ukrainian, he succeeded in most cases. The translator’s individual style is marked by concise and euphonious translations, multiple new coinages and in-depth knowledge of the original works.

The given article presents an overview and initial analysis of the manifold influences of R. M. Rilke’s poetry and prose on William H. Gass’s “The Tunnel”. The American writer and literary scholar W. H. Gass repeatedly acknowledged Rilke’s profound impact on his novel. Undertaking our research of the particular manifestations of Rilke’s “presence” in “The Tunnel”, we are naturally guided, and motivated, by a challenging task of specifying those fragments and chunks of the text as well as underlying ideas and concepts which were borrowed from Rilke, which could be traced back to his works. Our opening research into the problem specified has brought forth the following results. Intertextual links of “The Tunnel” are manifold, the Rilkean parallels being profound, versatile and fruitful. The core of Rilkean influence is formed by sharing much from the poetics of Rilke’s novel “The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge” — an artist’s vision, forms of delineating things (Dinge), some plot lines and narratives, a device of inserted stories, auto fictionality, philosophically charged, reflexive prose writing, autobiographical narrative. Besides, “The Tunnel” features dozens of parallels with Rilke’s poetical works.

Friedrich, Rainer W., G. F. Molnar, Michael Schiebe, and A. Joffre Mercier. Protein kinase C is required for long-lasting synaptic enhancement by the neuropeptide DRNFLRFamide in crayfish. J. Neurophysiol. 79: 1127–1131, 1998. The FMRFamide-related neuropeptide AspArgAsnPheLeuArgPhe-NH2 (DRNFLRFamide, DF2) induces a long-lasting enhancement of synaptic transmission at neuromuscular junctions on the crayfish deep abdominal extensor muscles. Here we investigated the function of protein kinase C (PKC) in this effect because PKC has been implied in the control of long-term synaptic modulation in other systems. The general kinase antagonist staurosporine reduced both the initial increase in excitatory postsynaptic potential (EPSP) amplitude and the duration of synaptic enhancement. Unlike staurosporine, the selective PKC inhibitors, chelerythrine and bisindolylmaleimide, augmented the initial EPSP increase. However, like staurosporine, they also reduced the duration of synaptic enhancement. The PKC activator, phorbol-12-myristate 13-acetate, induced a long-lasting synaptic enhancement that was blocked by chelerythrine. These results show that synaptic enhancement by DF2 is mediated by different intracellular signaling systems that act in temporal sequence. The initial increase in EPSP amplitudes is negatively regulated by PKC and involves another, staurosporine-sensitive, kinase; whereas, the maintenance of synaptic enhancement requires PKC.

AbstractIn this article, Michael W. Goheen summarizes and evaluates a debate between ecumenical pioneer Lesslie Newbigin and former WCC general secretary Konrad Raiser. Raiser exemplifies a trinitarian approach to ecumenism and mission that recognizes the universal presence of the Holy Spirit among all peoples and religions, and so would cease to have a Christocentric focus. For Newbigin, while a trinitarian approach to ecumenism and mission is of paramount importance, an abandonment of the centrality and universality of Jesus Christ is something that cannot be abandoned. In the end, says Goheen, the differences between Raiser and Newbigin are differences revolving around the meaning of Jesus Christ and his atoning work on the cross.

Podstawą teoretyczną dookreślającą kategorię obrazowości stanowią tutaj badania Jana Białostockiego, Georgesa Didi-Hubermana i Hansa Beltinga.

A gdzie materialne świadectwa życia żydowskiego, gdzie meble, ubiory, księgi, warsztaty, garnki, biżuteria, przedmioty zbytku i świadectwa nędzy?

AbstractIn 2003–07 summer balance was measured at altitudes between 1700 and 3382 m a.s.l. on two glaciers on Mount Rainier, Washington State, USA (46.85° N,121.72° W; 4400 m a.s.l.): south-facing Nisqually Glacier and east-northeast-facing Emmons Glacier. Upper-air temperatures at the nearest gridpoint in the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis database are used in a distributed (over altitude) positive-degreeday (PDD) model. For each glacier the model used the same coefficients at all altitudes, for all years. The rms model error was 0.65 (r2 = 0.87) and 0.78 m a−1 w.e. (r2 = 0.93) for Nisqually and Emmons Glaciers, respectively. Although PDD work generally uses different coefficients for snow and ice surfaces, and the duration of exposure of those surfaces varies with altitude, error in this single-coefficient model is nearly uncorrelated with altitude. Values of coefficients obtained are within the range of those found in other PDD work. The degree-day coefficient, however, differs markedly between the two glaciers, and is shown to be controlled by the difference between them in vertical gradient of measured summer balance. It is smaller for Nisqually Glacier, where solar radiation is a stronger contributor to melt; and larger for Emmons Glacier, where it is a weaker contributor. Over 1948–2007, when the model calibrated over 2003–07 was applied to the upper-air temperatures, estimated summer balance was ∼0.4 m a−1 less negative over 1962–83 than before and ∼0.6 m a−1 less negative than after, corresponding roughly with changes of the northeast Pacific sea-surface temperatures.

Annotation:
George Barker has always been a troubling poet. Lionized in the 1930s and 1940s along with fellow Apocalyptic Poets Dylan Thomas, David Gascoyne, Kathleen Raine, by the time of Margaret Drabble’s overview of his life’s work in the Oxford Companion to English Literature, Barker is summarily dismissed as ‘characteristically rhetorical, Dionysian, and surreal, though some critics have suggested that he achieves disorder more by accident than intent’. My purpose in the next few pages is to directly challenge these assertions of bombast, overexuberance and superficiality. Both W. B. Yeats and T. S. Eliot regarded him as a ‘genius’. Harold Pinter praised him as ‘a love poet of the highest order’. Yet Barker is forgotten now. I want to suggest that this is actually because of the troubling depth of what he has to say, and the clarity with which he says it, rather than the reverse.

Annotation:
The localization of the protein tyrosine kinase pp60c-src to the plasma membrane and to the membrane of secretory vesicles in neurally derived bovine chromaffin cells has suggested that tyrosine phosphorylations may be associated with the process of secretion. In the present study we have identified two cytosolic proteins of approximately 42 and 45 kD that become phosphorylated on tyrosine in response to secretagogue treatment. Phosphorylation of these proteins reached a maximum (3 min after stimulation) before maximum catecholamine release was observed (5-10 min after stimulation). Both secretion and tyrosine phosphorylation of p42 and p45 required extracellular Ca2+. Tyrosine-phosphorylated proteins of similar Mr have previously been identified in 3T3-L1 adipocytes stimulated with insulin (MAP kinase; Ray, L. B., and T. W. Sturgill. 1987. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA. 84:1502-1506) and in avian and rodent fibroblasts stimulated with a variety of mitogenic agents (Cooper, J. A., D. F. Bowen-Pope, E. Raines, R. Ross, and T. Hunter. 1982. Cell. 31:263-273; Nakamura, K. D., R. Martinez, and M. J. Weber. 1983. Mol. Cell. Biol. 3:380-390). Comparisons of the secretion-associated 42-kD protein of chromaffin cells with the 42-kD protein of Swiss 3T3 fibroblasts and 3T3-L1 adipocytes provide evidence that these three proteins are highly related. This evidence includes comigration during one-dimensional SDS-PAGE, cochromatography using ion exchange and hydrophobic matrices, similar isoelectric points, identical cyanogen-bromide peptide maps, and cochromatography of MAP kinase activity with the tyrosine-phosphorylated form of pp42. This protein(s), which appears to be activated in a variety of cell types, may serve a common function, perhaps in signal transduction involving a cascade of kinases.

AbstractThe Dolerini consist of two genera (Dolerus Panzer and Prionourgus Goulet). Prionourgus consists of one species. Dolerus is subdivided into one species group and seven subgenera (nitens group, Neodolerus Goulet, Achaetoprion Goulet, Oncodolerus Goulet, Loderus Konow, Dicrodolerus Goulet, Dolerus s. str. Panzer, and Dosytheus Leach), and consists of 72 Nearctic species.Described as new are one genus [Prionourgus (type species: Dolerus salmani Ross)], four subgenera [Neodolerus (type species: Dolerus sericeus Say), Achaetoprion (type species: Dosytheus maculicollis Norton), Dicrodolerus (type species: Dosytheus apricus Norton), and Oncodolerus (type species: Loderus acidus MacGillivray)], 23 species [Dolerus abstrusus (type locality: Moose Factory, Ontario), Dolerus acer (type locality: Merritt Creek, Klamath County, Oregon), Dolerus aeneiceps (type locality: Robson, British Columbia), Dolerus alutaceus (type locality: Seymour, Illinois), Dolerus californicus (type locality: 1 mi. E Emigrant Gap, Placer County, California), Dolerus columbianus (type locality: Robson, British Columbia), Dolerus comatus (type locality: Pullman, Washington), Dolerus crinitus (type locality: Forestville, California), Dolerus decussatus (type locality: Chaffeys Locks, Ontario), Dolerusfaber (type locality, 25.5 mi. W Lakeview, Oregon), Dolerusfalcatus (type locality: Cheltenham, Pennsylvania), Dolerus fulgens (type locality: Huntingdon, Pennsylvania), Dolerus hebes (type locality: Marmora, Ontario), Dolerus incisus (type locality: Reindeer Depot, Northwest Territories), Dolerus inermis (type locality: Moscow, Idaho), Dolerus interior (type locality: Pullman, Washington), Dolerus laevis (type locality: Glacier Point, Yosemite National Park, California), Dolerus maritimus (type locality: Chase Lake, Snohomish County, Washington), Dolerus mimus (type locality: Gatineau Park, Quebec), Dolerus recurvans (type locality: Strawberry, California), Dolerus rossi (type locality: Fredericton, New Brunswick), Dolerus tacoma (type locality: Mount Rainier, Washington), and Dolerus urustus (type locality: Tuscarora, Nevada)], and two subspecies [Dolerus elderi pacificus (type locality: Sumas Prairie, British Columbia) and Dolerus konowi glacialis (type locality: Yakutat, Alaska)]. A new name, Dolerus sayi, is proposed for D. collaris Say, a junior secondary homonym.Treatment of each taxon includes synonymic list, diagnostic combination, descriptions, taxonomic notes, origin of new epithet, host and/or habitat, geographic distribution, and notes on affinities. In addition, under each species there is a discussion of geographical variation. Important character states are illustrated and geographical distribution is mapped for all species. Relationships between species of Dolerini are reconstructed from the analysis of structural characters using principles of cladistic systematics. Finally a classification is proposed for higher taxa of the Dolerini based on the reconstructed phylogeny.

In the early morning of October 1, 1965, self-proclaimed left-wing troops raided the houses of seven top army generals in Jakarta. The number of online gaming enthusiasts nowadays makes the emergence of competition between each game online, one of which is an online game DotA 2. DotA 2 game that requires strategy and teamwork to achieve victory makes it interesting to study, especially in the online game DotA 2 also has a point barometer of ability or player’s skill, namely, MMR (Matchmaking Ratio). In this study, researchers used ethnographic methods to virtualized data collection by observation participation. The results of this study are the communication process is happening in the virtual community online game DOTA 2 through several stages of a communicator encoding to create a message that will be delivered verbally and non-verbally. After the message is sent then, decoding is done by the communicant which will produce an effects and feedback of the communication process with each other every competent player to be dominant communicator who is ultimately determined and agreed upon by the members of the team. Furthermore, become communicators dominant, a player must have high MMR points that seemed to have a greater ability or skilful. However, it is not entirely a barometer of a communicant. There is a privilege to be a benchmark of trusted players or the communicant to the communicator dominant other than points outside the MMR itself, related to the personal attitude which affect other player, such as have a good communication skills and player’s ability in the match. This lead to a power against the dominant communicator and the power is exactly what is called as the charismatic authority. REFERENCES Boellstorff, Tom. 2008. Little cherry virus 2 (LChV2; genus Ampelovirus, family Closteroviridae) is associated with Little Cherry Disease (LCD), one of the most economically destructive diseases of sweet cherry (Prunus avium (L.)) in North America (1). Since 2010, incidence of LCD associated with LChV2 confirmed by reverse transcription (RT)-PCR assays has increased in orchards of Washington State. LChV2 was known to be transmitted by the apple mealybug (Phenacoccus aceris (Signoret)) (3). However, the introduction of Allotropus utilis, a parasitoid platygastrid wasp (2) for biological control, contributed to keeping insect populations below the economic threshhold. In recent years, the population of grape mealybug (Pseudococcus maritimus (Ehrhorn)) increased in cherry orchards of Washington State (Beers, personal observation). Since grape mealybug is reported to transmit Grapevine leafroll associated virus 3 (Ampelovirus) in grapevine (4), this study investigated whether this insect would also transmit LChV2. A colony of grape mealybugs on Myrobalan plum (Prunus cerasifera Ehrh.) trees was identified visually and morphologically from slide mounts. In a growth chamber, first and second instar crawlers were fed on fresh cut shoots of sweet cherry infected with a North American strain (LC5) of LChV2. After an acquisition period of 7 days, 50 crawlers were transferred to each young potted sweet cherry trees, cv. Bing, confirmed free from LChV2 by RT-PCR. This process was repeated in two trials to yield a total of 21 potted trees exposed to grape mealybug. One additional tree was left uninfested as a negative control. After 1 week, the trees were treated with pesticide to eliminate the mealybugs. Two to four months after the inoculation period, leaves were collected from each of the recipient trees and tested by RT-PCR for the presence of LChV2. To reduce the possibility of virus contamination from residual mealybug debris on leaf surfaces, the trees were allowed to defoliate naturally. After a 3-month dormant period, the new foliage that emerged was then tested. Two sets of primers: LC26L (GCAGTACGTTCGATAAGAG) and LC26R (AACCACTTGATAGTGTCCT) (1); and LC2.13007F (GTTCGAAAGTGTTTCTTGA) and LC2.14545R (CATTATYTTACTAATGGTATGAC) (this study) were used to amplify a partial segment of the replicase gene (409 bp) and the complete (1,080 bp) coat protein gene of LChV2, respectively. Of 21 trees tested, 18 yielded positive results for LChV2. The reaction products from six randomly selected trees were cloned and the virus identity was verified by sequencing. The sequences of RT-PCR amplicons from both primer pairs showed ≥99% identity to LChV2, strain LC5 (GenBank Accession No. AF416335). The result confirmed that P. maritimus transmits LChV2, a significant finding for this cherry production region. Grape mealybug is of increasing concern in the tree fruit industry because it is difficult to control in established orchards. The presence of infested orchards that serve as reservoirs of both LCD and this insect vector present a challenge for management. To the best of our knowledge this is the first report to show transmission of LChV2 by grape mealybug. References: (1) K. C. Eastwell and M. G. Bernardy. Phytopathology 91:268, 2001. (2) C. F. W. The challenge for rural communities to provide quality education for early childhood in Indonesia is difficult. National politics, policies, and economic and cultural conditions affect the Early Childhood Education system, and Indonesia is a large multicultural country, so, even the quality of education is difficult. This study aims to look at the quality of children's education in Pandalungan. Using qualitative methods with ethnographic design, data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. The results showed that educational institutions for children in urban areas can be categorized quite high. However, for early childhood education services in Desa Sukorambi Pandalungan, the quality is quite poor. Research suggestions are the need for follow-up related to social, economic, cultural and environmental factors at the level of Pandalungan community awareness of early childhood education.
