The purpose of this study is to explore psycho-social interventions for patients with diabetes and to suggest the effects of such interventions based on findings from systematic review and meta-analysis. To date, many types of psycho-social interventions for patients with diabetes have been conducted, indicating that self-management, self-efficacy, glucose control, diabetes distress, and quality of life can be improved after psycho-social interventions. As the most frequently used psycho-social interventions, cognitive behavioral therapy, behavior change techniques, motivational interviewing, and self-care interventions have been introduced and their effectiveness on psycho-social outcomes and disease control have been indicated. Recent studies have conducted technology-based psycho-social interventions for patients with diabetes, focusing on glucose control. Future studies are required to conduct multidisciplinary interventions based on a multilateral and integrated approach to continuously manage and monitor disease.

The coronavirus (Covid-19) is a pandemic that threatens many people’s lives. The objective of this study was to explore the Covid-19 psycho-social impact on Staff working in the United Nations in Burundi from October 2021 to 31st January 2022. This was a cross-sectional study involving 312 study participants. Univariate and bivariate analysis were processed using SPSS 25, and the Chi-square test was calculated with a p<0.05. As a result, all psycho-social components assessed were affected by Covid-19. The Staff experienced a very high level of psycho-social impact (very severe) which varied from 31% for being afraid of financial problems and unhappiness due to missing professional support from colleagues to 47% for being afraid of a family member infected by Covid-19. Also, we assessed their particularity of psycho-social impact due to the exposure of being clinical or non-clinical Staff, whereby, clinical Staff had a lower risk of being affected compared to the non-clinical Staff in some components. For instance, clinical Staff was 0.39 times more affected by fear of being infected by Covid-19 compared to non-clinical Staff (CI= (0.23,0.65). Also, there are some components where the impacts were similar for clinical and non-clinical Staff (Chi-square test p-value > 0.05 and CI of odds ratios cross 1). Thus, UN employees were negatively affected by Covid-19 from a psycho-social standpoint. The study recommends UN agencies in Burundi support staff by providing emergency psychological support and, if required to give medical treatment for job optimization. Hence, staff psycho-social status must be constantly checked and kept stable. Keywords: Covid-19, Impact, Psycho-social, Staff, United Nations.

We study the psycho-social determinants of self-assessed health in order to explain social inequalities in health in France. We use a unique general population survey to assess the respective impact on self-assessed health status of subjective perceptions of social capital, social support, and sense of control, controlling for standard socio-demographic factors (SES, income, education, age, and gender). The survey is unique in that it provides a variety of measures of self-perceived psycho-social resources (trust and civic engagement, social support, sense of control, and self-esteem). We find empirical support for the link between the subjective perception of psycho-social resources and health. Sense of control at work is the most important correlate of health status after income. Other important ones are civic engagement and social support. To a lesser extent, sense of being lower in the social hierarchy is associated with poorer health status. On the contrary, relative deprivation does not affect health in our survey. Since access to psycho-social resources is not equally distributed in the population, these findings suggest that psycho-social factors can partially explain of social inequalities in health in France.

Available reports and researches have investigated Syrian refugee needs and experiences, while few studies have explored the experiences of Jordanians in a hosting community, especially their psycho-social. In this paper, researcher argues that policy makers and service providers have to pay attention to hosting community experiences; especially their psycho-social. Paper concludes that Jordanians living in low income areas in Amman have been influenced by the Syrian crisis; suffering from frustration and despair, fears, anger, low self-esteem and hopelessness.

The objective: to study the psychological characteristics of women’s status in one of the most common complications of pregnancy - the threat of termination of pregnancy, depending on the level of stress load. Patients and methods. We have studied the psychological status (the Holmes-Rahe level of psychosocial stress, the Spielberg-Hanin level of anxiety, V.I.Dobryakov’s related to a pregnancy test, diagnosis of psychological defense mechanisms, assessment of quality of life) 60 pregnant women with threat of premature birth in the third trimester of pregnancy. Surveyed women were divided into 2 groups: group 1 included 30 pregnant women – forced migrant of Donetsk and Lugansk area and 2 group – 30 pregnant women who resided in Kiev. Results. At the same clinical picture of the threat of premature birth we detected discrepancy between the subjective assessment of their condition in women – forced migrants: a high level of situational and personal anxiety, decrease in physical (physical functioning, role-physical functioning) and psychological (social functioning, role emotional functioning) health, doubtful and pathological subtypes of gestational dominant. This creates prerequisites for complications of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum future period and requires the participation of psychologists in the work with this category of patients. Conclusion. So, revealed a discrepancy between the objective clinical signs similar obstetric pathology (on the example of threatened abortion) in pregnant women with different levels of stress load and their subjective evaluation of their condition that affects their psychological status. This should be reflected in individually tailored therapy and be mainstreamed into the work of obstetricians and gynecologists with these patients, and requires mandatory participation of psychologists in the work with this category of patients. Key words: pregnancy, the threat of premature birth, stress, psychological status.

Introduction. Down syndrome is the most common chromosomal disorder, with a worldwide frequency of 1 case in 700 live births. Objectives. Starting from the hypothesis that with the increased life expectancy of the patients with Down syndrome, new phenotypic changes and new dysfunctions are expected to appear, we proposed a longitudinal study to analyze their evolution over a long period of time. Material and method. This is a longitudinal study, based on retrospective research and descriptive evaluation, performed on a group of 81 patients from the case series of the Bihor Regional Center for Medical Genetics from Oradea. Results. We have identified 4 types of evolutionary trends of the clinical signs: stationary, involutive, progressive and with late onset. Conclusions. Knowledge of the natural evolution of the signs and symptoms of the disease is indispensable in the long-term monitoring of patients with Down syndrome. The birth of a child with Down syndrome is a real drama for the family with a strong emotional impact that can be prevented or mitigated by facilitating prenatal diagnosis, psychological counselling, social support and specialized genetic advice.

Background: Primary health care approach in ENT health care delivery; has shown to be a budding strategy in alleviating the ENT disease burden in the rural of India, as evident from literature. However the impact of Psycho-social needs fulfillment associated with ENT diseases for achieving optimum ENT care has not been studied till now, which was the main issue addressed by this study. Methods: A Prospective study was done on needs of ENT patients in 6 villages (sampled randomly); in a catchment area of a rural health training centre (RHTC) of a Medical College in western Uttar Pradesh (Muzaffarnagar) from 1st January 2015 to 30th June 2016 by way of a Wellness Triangle approach of WHO exploring Physical, Social and Mental needs from ENT Specialist Services. All the needs of patients were studied by a Semi-structured Performa and data was analyzed by appropriate statistical software’s. Results: Among 384 patients, who attended ENT Specialist services at RHTC for 1.6 years- the majority of patients availing ENT care at RHTC were initially dissatisfied with Psycho-social support provided by ENT Specialists(77%,n=296). However when Psycho-social Component of Patients (n=311, 81%) were fulfilled by both ENT & Community Medicine faculties -the ENT Curative treatment % was higher (n=212, 55.2% vs. n=13, 3.3%, OR=9.8, RR=1.5) and this difference was also statistically significant( p<0.00001). Conclusions: Greater psycho-social support is needed by ENT patients; apart from focus on pure curative approach by otorhinolaryngologist. The full-filing of psycho-social needs of ENT patients, needs more attention by both ENT specialists and community physicians for delivering ENT care by primary health care approach.

Cyberbullying has recently attracted attention due to its increasing prevalence and serious consequences for both victims and perpetrators. The objective of this population-based study was to examine the determinants of a person becoming a perpetrator of cyberbullying, including personal resources (emotional self-regulation, self-esteem, internal locus of control, optimism), social skills (prosocial behavior, assertiveness, cognitive empathy, cooperation), peer relationships (peer support, threats from peers, peer rejection, dislike of peers), and problematic Internet use (excessive Internet use, impulsive reactions to Internet deprivation). Participants (N = 541) were students at elementary schools (age 14–15) in Ostroleka, a city in central-eastern Poland. Two-part regression was used to explore protective/risk factors of the likelihood of an individual using cyberviolence (dichotomous part: involvement in violence) and how often it is used (continuous part: frequency of cyberbullying). The results showed that the emotional component is crucial to cyberbullying, as indicated by the importance of emotional self-control, which reduces the frequency of cyberbullying. Other important factors are assertiveness, impulsive response to limited Internet access (which increases the likelihood of engaging in cyberbullying) and fear of peers (which reduces its frequency). In turn, the importance of pro-sociality (which inhibits engagement) and peer support (which promotes engagement) points to the second important component of cyberbullying—that is, group mechanisms. At the same time, the results indicate that while the importance of Internet addiction as a risk factor for cyberbullying should not be underestimated, the amount of time spent online cannot be seen as the source of the problem. The study leads to the conclusion that effective interventions targeting cyberbullying should focus on the development of more adaptive styles of coping with emotions.

The health miseries emerged after the horrific incident of Second World War challenged the bio-medical model dominating the healthcare perceptions during the 19th century. The healthcare interventions in post war years have had to change toward a new idea, the social perspective of health. In 1977, Engel introduced a new approach “bio-psycho-social” (BPS) which emphasized that merely bio-medical intervention by ignoring the psycho-social determinants cannot be helpful in achieving absolute recovery. Although this paradigm shift in healthcare was widely acknowledged but the application of the approach is limited. In the context, the role of Medical Social Work, a profession focused on the reduction of the psycho-social and environmental determinants of health for absolute recovery, is considerable. This review study concludes that the interventions of Social work profession with its unique attributes such as breadth, holistic care and believe in absolute rehabilitation, can make the health system more responsive. Objectives There is growing evidence that type 2 diabetes (T2D) can be put into remission through lifestyle intervention. Current focus on remission in terms of physiological considerations and biomedical scales, means there is limited understanding of the role psycho-social factors play in moderating the efficacy of lifestyle interventions for T2D remission. In the current review we aimed to synthesise the emerging literature on psycho-social factors associated with T2D remission, specifically from lifestyle interventions. Methods Five databases (EMBASE, MEDLINE, CINAHL ultimate, PsychINFO and PsycArticles) were searched to identify studies from 2009 onwards that reported remission outcomes from lifestyle interventions in participants ≥ 18years old, with a clinical diagnosis of T2D. Studies included were of an interventional or observational design and restricted to English language. Screening and data extraction was performed independently by two reviewers using prespecified criteria. Results In total 6106 studies were screened, 36 studies meeting the inclusion criteria were included. Studies were globally diverse, with 30 (83%) being published ≥ 2017. Psycho-social scales were under-utilised with 22 (67%) of studies failing to include any psycho-social measures. Single arm, prospective studies were most frequently utilised, however study quality was perceived to be heterogeneous. Further disparity in the quality, content and delineation of the psycho-social interventions was also identified. Education and self-monitoring interventions were the most frequently incorporated. Self-monitoring was also identified as an important facilitator to remission, in addition to social support. Conclusions Our findings indicate that psycho-social factors in T2D remission are under-explored. We have identified a number of methodological issues (comparability, conflicting remission criteria and poorly defined psycho-social interventions) suggesting knowledge gaps which could inform the methodology of future research design. There is significant opportunity for future research to incorporate the social model of disease, conceptualise remission more holistically, and build a more comprehensive evidence base to guide clinical practice.

Family processes, which include functions, responsibilities, communication, and self-presentation, among others, make up the constructs needed to deal with critical circumstances. It develops an individual's abilities, self-confidence, and connectedness with all family members, especially the youngsters. Major biological, societal, and cognitive changes occur during the period between puberty and young adulthood, and such changes stimulate the most important shifts, especially psycho-social and physical capabilities, communal affiliation, and overall wellbeing. Young adults give importance to their health, social connections, ability to contribute, recognise themselves, grappling, mastering, and ability to shape their own destinations. Families put forth their best efforts, take initiatives towards the wellbeing of young adults, and try to provide and maintain a favourable environment. To examine the psycho-social impacts of family processes, primary data was collected through stratified linear systematic quota sampling and data analysed through SPSS 21, SmartPLS 3. Findings indicate that family processes have significant psycho-social impacts on the wellbeing of young adults. Even before the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Lesotho had a significant number of orphans. However, the pandemic has caused an increase in the number of orphans, as some children have lost 1 or both parents or caregivers. Many of these orphans are of school-going age, strategically placing schools to meet their psycho-social needs. With this study we aimed to achieve 2 objectives: firstly, to assess how 1 primary school in rural Lesotho provided psycho-social support to orphaned learners during the COVID-19 pandemic, and secondly, to determine how such support was beneficial to the orphans. We used the social-ecological model of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) as a theoretical framework and collected data through interviews with 17 purposively selected participants, including 1 principal, 8 guardians and 8 teachers. Thematic data analysis was used to analyse the data collected. The study revealed that teachers provided food packages, lay counselling, and referrals to spiritual counsellors to support orphaned learners. While learners benefited from the school’s psycho-social services, limited resources and skills posed challenges. We recommend developing comprehensive policies to address the psycho-social support needs of orphans.

The research relevance is determined by the direct impact of marital conflicts on the psycho-emotional state of a child, particularly a teenager. The study aims to identify the variables capable of influencing the relationship between the tendency of marital conflict and the psycho-social well-being of children, and to determine the mediating and moderating role of the identified variables. The study was conducted in several stages. The first stage of the study identified variables capable of influencing the relationship between marital conflict and adolescents' psycho-social well-being. The second stage of the study analysed the mediating and moderating nature of the mentioned variables using a questionnaire. Results emphasize the ability to influence certain aspects of marital relations in Georgian society on various aspects of the lives of its members. The research found that the parents’ financial situation, the feeling of their and their children’s psycho-social support and the change in the functioning of the parents' family in Georgia derives from the family conflict index and is reflected in the deterioration of the adolescent's psycho-social well-being. As for the parenting style, which did not acquire a mediating and moderating role in the research, it can be related to the cultural peculiarity and defined as the interest of future research. On the one hand, it contributes to the expansion of theoretical knowledge in the field of family psychology, and on the other hand, it provides important information for the use of research results, which is one of the first steps forward for the study of the family and the use of therapeutic purposes

It is likely that psychological and social needs play a profound role in the connection people feel to their work; however, the explanatory power of these factors has been neglected in the literature, particularly with regard to cultural perspectives. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – To address this deficiency, the authors propose a profile multidimensional construct referred to as psycho-social work dependency, drawing on the Mandala model of self (Hwang, 2011b) and the Chinese composite self (Lu, 2003). The authors also developed a psychometrically sound 16-item questionnaire, the psycho-social work dependency scale, to measure this construct. A total of 1,314 valid questionnaires were obtained from employees in Taiwan to verify the reliability and validity of the instrument. Cross-validation was conducted using an independent sample of 278 valid questionnaires. Findings – The results indicate good reliability and validity. What follows is a discussion of four types of psycho-social work dependency: strong, loose, direct, and indirect. Implications and suggestions for future research are also presented. Originality/value – A cultural-inclusive construct-psycho-social work dependency was developed to best delineate the connections between Chinese employees and their work. This study expounded the definition, structure, measurement scale, and profile of psycho-social work dependency. These results could help OB researchers and practitioners to know more about the connections between employees and their work, especially for Chinese workers. This new construct may also stir up more studies to investigate the role of psycho-social work dependency in the workplace.

Again, findings reveal that the psychosocial well-being of adolescents is significantly affected by anxiety symptom. It is thus, recommended that it will necessary to utilize the results of this study to implement programs or courses in psychology that will inform people about the early signs of adolescent risk factors and symptoms of depression. Implication This implies that a good proportion of adolescents in secondary schools are seen to portray some symptoms and risk factors for depression which has negatively affected their well-being both socially and psychologically.
