The subject of this research is history of parishes in the Pskov-Pechorsky Region related with Seto folk. Historical area of this small Finno-Ugric ethnic group embraces modern territory of the Pechorsky District and south-eastern parts of Estonia. Seto are Orthodox Christians and Russians call them poluvertsi (half-believers). Seto culture is usually seen in isolation from established parish system in the borderland of the Pskov-Pechorsky Region and Estonia. The author of article aims to trace principal changes of Seto church life in conditions of constantly shifting state affiliation and political regimes from late XIX century to present time. The source base of research are press materials, published testimonies of eyewitnesses, documents of the State Archive of Pskov Oblast (GAPO) and information gathered by author in ethnographic expeditions of 2007-2017. The research applies historical-comparative and ethnographic methods. The article reveals involvement of Seto in parish life at different stages of their history. Due to their ignorance of Russian language, they couldn’t participate consciously in church services and were involved in Estonian language environment in the period of their incorporation in the Estonian Republic in 1920-1940s. In Soviet period they insisted on their right for independent “Estonian” parish. Today in Russia Seto are included in Russian-speaking church environment and in Estonia parish life. The article emphasizes the role of parish clergymen in establishment of Seto parishes. It puts in academic researches new data about the Soviet period of the Pskov Eparchy i.e. the practice of bilingual Church services in mixed Russian-Estonian parishes. Finally author comes to conclusion about construction of Seto ethno-confessional identity in dependence of political interests of Russia and Estonia in XX-XXI cc. which eventually influenced their culture.

The article analyzes the historicalandgeneticinterconnections of the oldest cities of Novgorod and Pskov, the most important in the basic network of state resettlement their geopolitical and administrative role in the consolidation of the Russian state; provides ancient factual data confirming the unity of the Pskov-Novgorod regional settlement system; highlights the features in the distribution of administrative functions between them-the degree of influence on the development of the planning structure, the socio-economic links between the main centers and surrounding settlements. The close relationship between Pskov and Novgorod was notlimited to the commonality of state and geopolitical interests. The historical facts that testify to the political and administrative dominance of Novgorod can be traced its steadyleadership in the trade and economic influence on the entire northwestern region of the Russian state, that created a complementarity of functions between neighboring cities: the predominance of administrative or economic in one center, for example, Novgorod and the predominance of defense in the other - Pskov; the analysis of the historical settlement system confirms the priority role of Novgorod which consolidated its interests in trade with the Pskov suburbs such as Toropets, Velikiye Luki, Kholm- which were in the zone of influence of both Pskov and Novgorod. The phenomenon of the transfer of central functions (administrative, commercial and economic) from one historical center to another is observed as happened at the end of theXVIIth - beginning of theXVIIIth centuries, when the stay of foreign merchant ships was stopped in Kholmogory, the trade in timber and bread and the role of the capital of the Russian North passed to Arkhangelsk. Recommendations are given on the account of ancient historical and geneticlinks in the supporting framework of the resettlement of Russia, which strengthens and strengthens the historicaland cultural integrity atthestatelevel.

The present research featured the social structure of the Pskov Province in the 1760s. The cities of Pskov and Velikiye Luki were the two most densely populated areas in the region, but this study also covered the less populated Gdov urban area. The author relied on church records, e.g. confession lists and metric books, from the State Archive of the Pskov Province. The research also included original and scientifically processed audit descriptions. They proved to be a novel and extensive source of data that made it possible to describe the demographic and social structure of pre-revolutionary provincial Russia. The analysis revealed the quantitative, gender, income, and religious characteristics of the local population in the 1780s. The population of the Pskov Province was mainly represented by Russians peasants, especially in the area of Velikiye Luki. Velikiye Luki and Pskov had an exceptionally large number of peasant city-dwellers, which was untypical for the provincial society of that time. In general, the 1760s saw a considerable growth of taxable population in the Pskov Province.

The article presents the results of a historical and geographical study of the confessional composition of the population of the Pskov region using the time series analysis. This method has been widely used in the historical geography of the population. The study covers almost 50 years since the middle of the 19th century to the census of the population in 1897. This period is divided into two stages, and the turn of the 1870-80s is chosen as the intermediate date. The study reveals differences in the confessional structure of the population of the Pskov region. The Pskov region is a unique object for studying various historical and geographical processes; in particular, participating in the formation of the modern ethno-cultural space of the Northwest of Russia. This is explained by the position of the region in the contact zone of three cultural worlds, the specifics of which are determined by the prevailing religions. This is the Russian Orthodox world (the territory of the Pskov region), the Central European Catholic world (the eastern part of Latvia - Latgale), and the Northern European Lutheran world (Estonia). In order to study all of the processes, one can suggest using methods developed in historical geography, in particular, time series analysis.

The article presents reflections on flax as a floral symbol of Pskov land and Latgale. The folklore of neighbouring lands describes how flax was grown, processed and used for ritual purposes as a protective charm against negative energy. The semantics of flax reflects the archaic character of the homeland in the cultural knowledge of the people of the Pskov-Latgale frontier and their loyalty to tradition.Flax has always been the main field plant and source of income in frontier lands of Pskov and Latgale. In the world market the most valuable flax among all other types of Baltic and Belorussian flax was Pskov flax fibre. In the flax growing territories long-lasting folklore traditions were set up, which indicates that flax has always had not only practical but also a symbolic meaning for the peoples of the Baltic States, Belarus and Russia. In the territory of Pskov region the crop fertility rites were practised to ensure the flax crops, for example, horse riding for “tall flax”. Flax fibre was considered to be an amulet, a protection from negative energy. Flax linen sheets were used during childbirth in Latgale, in Pskov land the afterbirth was wrapped in it and given to the midwife; the sick children were wrapped up in the flax prayer tablecloth, etc.In Russian folklore in the territory of Latgale flax growing and flax processing are frequently reflected in couplets (chastushkas), riddles and lyrical songs. Flax is the symbol of strength and persistence. Numerous contacts on frontier territories have contributed to the plot commonalities of fairy and non-fairy prose, e. g. flax can save man from the evil spirit. Such plots are registered both in the territory of Pskov region and Latgale. The image of flax left the realm of folklore for literature, which is common for both Pskov and Latgale.Latvian poets create a vivid image of “flax crop fields” which reflect the landscape peculiarity of Latgale. Quite often the image of flax crop fields brings them back the memories about their past life (V. Krāslavietis, P. Antropov – O. Alekseyev). So V. Krāslavietis remembers his native Latgale with the blue lakes, where blue flax is growing, where he rides to visit someone on a horse of cheerful memories. Flax often takes Pskov writers on a journey into the memory (O. Alekseyev, L. Malyakov). There is an inseparable link of flax with the landscape of Latgale and with the people living there. A. Kūkojs marks parallelism in his daughter’s appearance: curly and thin as Latgalian flax is daughter’s hair. Pskov poet O. Alekseyev uses such comparisons to reveal the power and tenderness of the folk soul.At the same time flax is associated with human character and soul of people, who are known for such typical traits as hard work and holiness, sufferings and belief. Purity and tenderness of flax corresponds to the shyness of Latgalian girls (Madsolas J.). Latgale is portrayed as a barefoot “orphan girl” who endures patiently life hardships “under the grey woolen sky” among “the fields covered with flax stalks” (A. Kūkojs). For the Russian writers (immigrants who used to live in Pskov land and were attracted to it and associated Pskov with Russia) flax symbolizes unbreakable bond of times and loyalty to the traditions of Pskovites (L. Zurov). The image of flax in literature can be not only visual but olfactory as well. Poet Y. Ivask recalls Pskov with its “retted autumn flax”. Stinking smell, “repelling, but healing stench” has the highest spiritual value for the homesick poet. Not the beauty of the blue flax but its repelling stench is taken by the poet as a gift – as it cleanses the spirit. For Pskov writers of the second half of the 20th century flax field also symbolises the Motherland (S. Zolotsev, E. Borisov, A. Аbrosimov) – “golden” and happy, despite the grief periods. The flax field causes them to contemplate, feel tenderness and sadness. The loss of flax, which is the floral symbol of the native land, has been lately regarded by our contemporaries as a break with traditions and oblivion of the past (Е. Еrmak).Flax in the literature of Pskov and Latgale is the symbol of the Motherland. It acts as a human being and embodies natural beauty and persistence. In Latgalian poetry the image of flax supports the myth about people who suffer or are orphans, who are hardworking and selfless. In Pskov literature flax depicts fading patriarchal character of the native land; no wonder Pskov is called the land of “flaxen Rus” (V. Sergeyeva).

The article describes the contemporary state of the dialects spoken in the Nevelsky district (Russia, Pskov Province), which is bordering Belarus, in comparison with the north-eastern Belarusian dialects located on the other side of the state border. When establishing the linguistic areas, it was assumed that on one side of this border the dialects would change following the Standard Russian language, while on the other side they would follow Belarusian. However, the real situation is much more complicated: on one hand, some dialectal features disappeared under the influence of the respective standard language; on the other hand, quite often features of both dialects do not correspond to either Standard Russian or Standard Belarusian, and there are existing “Belarusian” features on the territory of Russian dialects.

A large number of microtoponyms allows us to speak of the popular topographic term gorodok with the meaning ‘an elevated place, a tract with which the stay of ancient people is associated'. The article reveals the issues of the formation and development of civil procedure law in medieval Russia on the basis of various historical and legal sources and the works of Russian, Soviet and modern scientists. The relevance of the work lies in the fact that this problem remains insufficiently investigated to date due to the small number of works devoted directly to the civil process in the Old Russian state and Northwestern Russia during the period of feudal fragmentation. The novelty of the study is associated with the identification of some new features of civil proceedings and a new interpretation of existing provisions. The methodology used in the course of the study includes dialectical, comparative-historical, formal, logical and hermeneutic methods that allowed us to consider the formation of civil procedure law in its development and its relationship with the phenomena of socioeconomic life, compare historical and legal sources of various periods of medieval statehood, analyze these sources and interpret them. In the course of the study, it was revealed that the formation of civil proceedings was closely connected with the judicial system of Ancient Russia, Novgorod and Pskov. It is determined that, despite the unity of the criminal and civil proceedings in the Kievan state, some differences have already been observed in them. The procedural legal capacity of participants in civil proceedings in Kiev and North-Western Russia has been established. The duality of the judicial system and the separate jurisdiction of the princely and republican judicial bodies in Novgorod and Pskov were revealed and new stages of civil proceedings were established. Conclusions: in Ancient Russia, due to the underdevelopment of commodity-money relations, only the beginnings of the formation of judicial power and civil proceedings were observed. During the period of feudal fragmentation in economically developed Novgorod and Pskov, the judicial system and civil procedure law received significant development. Along with the immutability of the principle of the adversarial process, many new provisions have appeared in it. Women, elderly people and children were given the right to present their representatives at the trial, there were rules on the public summoning of the defendant to court, the process became closed, oral clerical work was replaced by written, the evidence base expanded due to a judicial duel and written evidence.

The article focuses on the construction and evolution of warehouses intended for grain storage in the first half of the 19th century using the example of the Pskov region. The relevance of the issue is largely predetermined by the fact that the issue of constructing warehouses for grain storage during lean years in the 19th century is underinvestigated. The author attempts to perform a historiographical analysis of grain warehouse construction in pre-revolutionary Russia, during the Soviet era and in post-Soviet Russia. The article describes the major stages of grain storage system formation and provides a qualitative assessment of the grain storage system in the Pskov Province. The article underlines the significant role of grain warehouses during World War II, when grain was delivered to the front lines to satisfy the needs of Russian soldiers. The article underlines the outmost significance of grain storage as a non-negotiable element of food security of the Pskov Province.

The subject of the study is the daily routine of the Pskov border region in the description of foreign travelers who visited the Russian state at the beginning of the reign of Peter the Great. The testimonies of travelers, diplomats and the military allow to trace the first changes related to the road infrastructure, the attitude towards foreigners and the way of life of the local population observed in the last quarter of the XVII century. The impression that the Pskov road made on travelers often left its indelible imprint on the entire perception of the Russian state by foreigners, and through numerous letters, diaries and reports, the image of Russia in Europe was laid on the eve of large-scale Peter's reforms. Up until the beginning of the Great Northern War, the foundation of St. Petersburg and the expansion of the borders of the Russian state, the roads of the Pskov border played an extremely important role in maintaining contacts with European countries, which led to increased attention to them both from the tsarist administration and foreign travelers. The quality of roads and related infrastructure in the border region continued to improve during the period under review. Travelers compared the sections of their route to the roads after crossing the border. Many foreign travelers noted the best quality of the road in the possessions of the Russian tsar in comparison with Polish and even Swedish possessions.

This article traces the history of the development and operation of trunk road from Pskov through Gdov, to Ivangorod and Narva, which was actively used during the pre-Petrine era. This route can be viewed as one of the typical examples of the Pskov border road. Written and visual sources of the XVII century allow reconstructing the isolated sections of the road, estimating the quality of road surface and infrastructure, and characterizing everyday activities of the travelers. The texts of the report compiled by the Dutch envoy Albert Joachim (1616), schedule of routs from Pskov of 1656, “Notes about Russia” of Erich Palmquist (1674), and “Diary Notes” of the General von Allart (1700) served as the sources for this research. The travel from Pskov to Narva took traditional (long) route and two short roads. Travelers faced multiple difficulties common to the borderland roads – poor condition of road surface, lack of accommodation, absence of road signs, rough weather, threat to health and property. The maximum average travel speed on the known road was 61 verst (65.07 km) per day. The typical average speed of a summer trip was 30 verst (32 km) per day. From December to March, most commodities were transported between the cities by sledge. The road network of the Pskov borderlands was more adapted for winter trips.

Despite the large volume of archival materials on church discipline in Russia of the XIX – early XX centuries, this topic has been studied rather poorly. This article analyzes the source base on the church discipline in the Pskov diocese based on the materials of the State Archive of the Pskov region. During the study of these sources, a count of specific violations of the church discipline among the laity, church officers and the clergy was made, and the main categories of offenses were identified. The main types of punishments for violating church discipline are shown. The gender composition of laypeople in the structure of offenses is considered. The structure of the titles of archival cases concerning violations of the church discipline is also addressed. The author came to the conclusion that clerics were punished mainly for drunkenness and official misconduct. In relation to the laity, the Pskov Spiritual Consistory most often considered cases related to the violations of sexual morality and illegal marriages, as well as murders and suicide attempts. This work is relevant because at present the Russian Orthodox Church is continuing to create unified documentation regulating the issues of the church court. This study, in turn, allows us to update the historical experience of regulating the church discipline and assigning punishments for its violation. The uniqueness of this work lies in the fact that the materials on the church discipline of the Pskov diocese of the XIX – early XX centuries have been analyzed for the first time, and the data obtained were introduced into scientific circulation.

The phytoplankton communities of Lake Kuchane, located in the Mikhailovskoye Museum-Reserve, were studied during different 2016–2017 seasons for the first time. 213 specific and intraspecific taxa from 9 phylums were identified in the phytoplankton, namely: Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, Chrysophyta, Euglenophyta, Cyanobacteria, Dinophyta, Cryptophyta, Charophyta, and Xanthophyta. The ratio of the main phylums of microalgae during the studied seasons was similar. The floristic complex of the lake's algoflora consisted of diatoms (36.6%), green (27.2%) and golden (10.8%) algae. Most of the phytoplankton genera contained one species taxon only. The specific composition of the phytoplankton community in 2017 was similar from spring to autumn. The minimum specific similarity of the phytoplankton communities was noted in July, 2016, and August, 2017. According to the level of biomass of planktonic algae, the lake belongs to oligotrophic water bodies. The planktonic algoflora of Lake Kuchane is characterized by the predominance of cosmopolitan freshwater forms of microalgae. In relation to pH, the predominant representatives preferred slightly alkaline waters. The Milius trophic index varied in the range 18.0–39.6 with a maximum value in summer. The Pantle–Bukk saprobity index almost did not change during the entire study. The waters of Lake Kuchane corresponded to the betamesosaprobic self-purification zone, quality class III.

The article is a trial of reconstructing one of the most important components of the culturalhistorical landscape of Russia at the 15–16th centuries, which is of paramount importance for understanding the essence of the ideas of monk of the Pskov Eleazar monastery Filofei, the author of the theory «Moscow as the Third Rome». According to the conventional opinion, relations between Russia and the West after the Ferraro-Florentine Council became irreconcilably hostile, and the perception of Catholicism, the «First Rome», was unequivocally negative. If cultural contacts persisted, it was only in spite of confessional differences. However, the situation of the late XV – early XVI centuries demonstrates a more flexible and pragmatic attitude of the Russian intellectual and political elite: society and the church remained faithful to Orthodox teaching, not inferior in dogmatic and canonical issues — such as filioque, communion with unleavened bread or the ecclesiastical supremacy of the pope, but were quite ready to assimilate Western experience. Even such prominent representatives of the church hierarchy as Avraamiy of Suzdal, Gennady of Novgorod and Metropolitan Makarius recognized that something could be learned from Catholics. Against this background, the position of Filofei, who considered everything emanating from the Western church to be the machinations of the devil, seems much more categorical and intolerant. According to the author of the article, this difference in the perception of the «First Rome» is one of the reasons for the weak interest of the Pskov elder’s contemporaries in the idea of the Third Rome. He sees the explanation of such a position of Filofei, on the one hand, in the specifics of the border position of Pskov, which is why the degree of hostility to the West was clearly higher here, and on the other hand, in the fact that the theory of the monk of the Eleazar Monastery was exclusively theological and had nothing to do with foreign policy, the structure of the Russian state or the perception of Western culture.

The article provides for an overview of foreigners’ encounter with the Russian language in the 16th — early 18th centuries; it analyzes, for this purpose, the German-Russian dictionary-phrasebook from the diary “Journey through Brandenburg, Prussia, Courland, Livonia, Pskov, Veliky Novgorod, Tver and Moscow” by Johann Arnold Brand. The phrasebook “Some Muscovite words and expressions that may be useful to travelers”, compiled by Brand on the way from Pskov to Moscow, contains the names of body parts, clothing, household accessories, dishes and drinks, food products, interior items, transport, utensils, writing tools in Russian transliteration with the translation into German. It also includes ready-made speech structures for communicating with fellow travelers, coachmen, owners and staff of the inns, for disposing of servants and property. The analysis of the phrasebook made it possible to recreate the everyday realities of the life of the Brandenburg Embassy on the road, and situations of lexical exchange. The authors provide a commented version of the literal reading of words and expressions in Russian. The independent study of the local language in Russia by foreign travelers was the most effective way to overcome the communication barrier and improve living conditions when traveling to the borderlands. The source under study may be of interest to both historians of the frontier and specialists in material culture and linguistics.

There is limited understanding of the genetic variability in Phytophthora infestans in the major potato cultivation region of north-western Russia, where potato is grown primarily by small households with limited chemical treatment of late blight. In this study, the mating type, sensitivity to metalaxyl, and genotype and population genetic diversity (based on 12 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers) of 238 isolates of P. infestans from the Pskov region during the years 2010−2013 were characterized. The aim was to examine the population structure, phenotypic and genotypic diversity, and the prevalent reproductive mode of P. infestans, as well as the influence of the location, time, and agricultural management practices on the pathogen population. The frequency of the A2 mating was stable over the four seasons and ranged from 33 to 48% of the sampled population. Both mating types occurred simultaneously in 90% of studied fields, suggesting the presence of sexual reproduction and oospore production in P. infestans in the Pskov region. Metalaxyl-sensitive isolates prevailed in all four years (72%), however, significantly fewer sensitive isolates were found in samples from large-scale conventional fields. A total of 50 alleles were detected in the 141 P. infestans isolates analyzed for genetic diversity. Amongst the 83 SSR multilocus genotypes (MLGs) detected, 65% were unique and the number of MLGs varied between locations from 3 to 20. These results, together with the high genotypic diversity observed in all the locations and the lack of significance of linkage disequilibrium, suggest that sexual recombination is likely responsible for the unique MLGs and the high genetic diversity found in the Pskov region population, resembling those of north-eastern European populations.

The paper describes the trade activity of Russian merchants in Livonia (in the widest sense of the term, including Estonia), which was under the rule of Sweden and Poland in the 17th century and later only under the Swedish rule. The main purpose of Russian merchants in the beginning of the 17th century was Reval (Tallinn) and later Narva. They also visited Riga and much less Dorpat (today’s Tartu). The author was able to identify new evidence of this by working in the archives of Baltic cities. Shopping yards for Russian merchants were established in Riga, Narva and Dorpat, which served as living quarters and a place for storing and selling goods. Interesting information about this is provided by the accounts of German farm administrators in Narva and Derpt, which are analyzed in this article for the first time. Russian guests in Livonia were mainly middle and minor merchants, as well as representatives of the largest trading companies in Novgorod and Pskov, commissioners of the tsars and, on the other hand, artisans, peasants and fishermen. Their activities served the extensive European trade in linen, hemp, leather, fat and fur as the main Russian supplies. The Livonian inhabitants were also supplied with industrial and agricultural products. The number of visitors to Livonia from northwest Russia and beyond was significantly higher than the number of Livonian merchants trading in Novgorod, Pskov and Moscow.

The modern development of the economy of the Russian Federation is characterized by an imbalance in the socio-economic development of the regions, which is due to the increased interregional competition, uneven resource provision, investment history, etc. Regions are components of the unified socio-economic and political system of Russia, but each of them has its specifics. Among the factors that determine the specifics of the region stand out: historical, climatic, national, social, and economic. Taking into account all these factors, the choice of means and methods of effective management of the socio-economic system of the region should be made to ensure its sustainable long-term development and functioning. In recent years, under the influence of a qualitatively different level of development of the productive forces, the introduction of innovations in all spheres of life, IT and telecommunication systems, as well as the development of network forms of organizing production, the problem has taken on new forms.

Introduction. According to WHO data, over the past five years in the Russian Federation, there has been a clear trend towards an increase in the level of alcohol consumption from 10.99 liters in 2012 to 13.9 liters in 2019 per capita. The leaders in vodka consumption in Russia are the Sakhalin and Magadan regions, the Republics of Komi, Karelia and Chukotka. Materials and methods. The analysis of the data of the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation on the level of socio-economic development of regions for the period from 2015 to 2019 was carried out for the country as a whole and in particular the North Western Federal District (NWFD), as well as data on the level of alcohol abuse of the adult working-age population for the specified period in the country as a whole. The above mentioned indicators for the Novgorod and Pskov regions are presented in more detail. Results. Practically in all regions of the NWFD there is a natural population decline. The most favourable situation is observed in the Leningrad and Kaliningrad regions. The Komi Republic, the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the Novgorod and Pskov regions are in the lead. The most unfavourable socio-economic conditions for living have developed in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Karelia, Komi, Novgorod and Pskov regions. The leaders in the incidence of alcoholism among the adult population in the NWFD were the Novgorod Region, the Nenets Autonomous Region, the Pskov and Arkhangelsk Regions and the Komi Republic. Almost all regions of the Far North are in the top five in terms of alcohol abuse by the adult working-age population, which indicates a very difficult situation with alcoholism among the population living in the Arctic region. Limitations. Sufficient information volume of data units of data of the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation was analyzed. Conclusion. The results of the work carried out will make it possible to draw the attention of regional authorities to the problem of socio-economic troubles in the territory entrusted to them and to direct administrative and other resources in a more targeted and purposeful manner to provide assistance to the population.

This article, based on field, archival and published ethnographic materials, analyses the phenomenon of harmful magic in the period of Ivan Kupala in the traditional culture of the countryfolk of the Vitebsk-Pskov borderlands. The functional pragmatics of witchcraft and its features are revealed, the techniques of apotropaic magic are analysed. The material for the work was a set of descriptions of the rite and folklore texts recorded on the territory of the borderlands in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The analysis of folklore and field materials allows us to characterise the functional pragmatics of harmful magic, its gender specificity, as well as take into account the peculiarities of witchcraft in the conditions of modern developed communication. The purpose of the study is to identify the specifics of magical practices dedicated to the day of Ivan Kupala, in the area of the Belarusian-Russian (Vitebsk-Pskov) ethno-cultural border. Twenty of them are fragmented and currently occupy less than 5 ha, the area of nine parks varies from 5 to 10 ha, those preserved within historical boundaries cover from 11 to 100 ha. Manor parks are situated both within the settlements’ boundaries (31 parks) and outside the settlements either bordering forest (12) or agricultural lands (3). Ten of the former border the forests. During the study 166 lichen species were identified. Statistical methods were performed to investigate the factors affecting lichen diversity in manor parks. Linear regression analysis was used to examine the dependence of the lichens species number on the park age/date of park creation (dispersion pattern), area of the parks (box plot), substrata diversity (dispersion pattern), and the dependence of the epiphytic lichens species number on tree and shrub species diversity (dispersion pattern). With the biserial correlation coefficient the impact of the settlement and the presence of the surrounding natural forests was calculated. Correlation analysis was performed to demonstrate the colligation between lichen species composition of the parks located in different subzones of forest zone in the region of Pskov. Our findings show that the number of lichen species depends on the park area (p = 0,0315), the variety of substrate types (p ˂ 0,001), and the variety of trees and bushes planted (p ˂ 0,001). The date of park creation and the presence of the surrounding natural forests do not influence the species diversity of lichens. We reveal that the location of the parks in a specific subzone of forest zone (southern taiga and mixed coniferous-broad-leaved forest) has no significant effect on the lichen species composition. The species richness of lichens tends to decrease in parks located within the settlements. The data obtained indicate not only the similarity of the species composition of lichens in the studied communities, but also the long-term development of lichen park communities in comparable climatic and landscape conditions.

The article deals with the demographic dynamics of the border regions of the Russia and Belarus. The article compares trends in population changes in the border Belarusian (Vitebsk, Gomel and Mogilev) and Russian (Bryansk, Pskov and Smolensk) regions over periods of 1959–1989 and 1989–2019. A comparison of the levels of life expectancy of the population at birth in these regions is given. The characteristics of the depopulation coefficient, as well as the effectiveness of the migration movement of the population are given. Their analysis revealed a higher level of demographic dynamics in the Belarusian border regions compared to the Russian regions. However, in general, the demographic dynamics of both Belarusian and Russian regions are characterised by depopulation trends that are typical of other regions with Slavic populations.

The study was carried out to establish hygienic estimate of labor employment and its effect of health of adolescents in various regions of Russia. The questionnaire survey of 1 500 individuals (senior high school students and students of professional education colleges) was implemented in four regions of the Russian Federation (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Omsk and Pskovsk regions). The quality of life related to health was estimated using standard questionnaire MOS SF-36. It is established that 41.2% of adolescents worked during time free of lessons. In Moscow, number of working adolescents is reliably lower than in other regions (32.8%). The prevalence of illegal labor activity in all oblasts is demonstrated. The regional features of of structure of labor employment according types of work and causes of labor activity is established. The study confirmed that labor activity in adolescent age is a health risk factor. The analysis of health risks demonstrated that in adolescents working all days of week during academic year are established risks of health complaints: leg pains (OR = 2.1, RR = 1.7, EF = 39.4%) in St. Petersburg, back pains (OR = 1.9, RR = 1.5, EF = 35.2%) in Omsk, heartburn (OR = 2.1, RR = 2.4, EF = 44.5%) and other disorders of digestion (OR = 2.4, RR = 1.9, EF = 48.4%) in Pskov. The increased risks are established in adolescents permanently working during academic year: occurrence of health complaints (OR = 2.6, RR = 1.6, EF = 38.8%) in Pskov, complaints on leg pains (OR = 3.2, RR = 2, EF = 49.5%) in Moscow, heartburn (OR = 4.7, RR = 3.4, EF = 70.5%) in Omsk, other disorders of digestion (OR = 4.3, RR = 2.8, EF = 64.4%) in Pskov. In these groups of working adolescents lower levels of indicator of quality of life related to health (according MOS SF-36) - BP scale (pain intensity) are established.
