Even for the most well-intentioned companies, the commitment required for the initial drafting of a plan is a real barrier to developing a useful schedule for a construction project. This paper explores how artificial intelligence and expert systems have and can be used for automating the generation of plans and schedules. Findings from a thorough literature review and observations about the general characteristics of projects provide a backdrop to explain the reasoning that has led to the authors' approach to developing a module capable of generating draft plans and schedules. This approach combines expert systems with large building blocks of predefined project scoping, sequencing, and scaling knowledge contained in standard templates and rules. It relies on templates to store much of the reasoning needed to produce a project plan and schedule, and on the use of generalized planning structures as activities. A draft schedule can then be automatically generated by way of a relatively simple rule set that assigns activity property values dealing with physical locations and production rates, as well as other project scale related values. The role of a physical model or view of a project is emphasised.Key words: construction, scheduling, project management, expert system, template, automated schedule generation, rule based, computer integration.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore how implementing a standardized/owner-mandated template for Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC) contract amendments can minimize errors. The focus is on public owners who manage multiple CM/GC projects at any one time. Design/methodology/approach – A case study format was used to compare contract amendments errors using a baseline project, transition project and best practices project. Six metrics were identified, including factual recital errors, summary formatting errors, schedule of values errors, construction services fee errors, allowance schedule errors and data consistency errors. Findings – The baseline and transition projects both had an average of seven errors per amendment, while the best practices project produced zero errors. The amendment template creation process helped design out common errors. The use of the template can be contract-mandated, while transition projects require owner commitment. Research limitations/implications – Future research should focus on completed projects’ closeout data that have been consolidated since the transition project was in its final stage and the best practices project was relatively early in the construction process. Practical implications – The findings of this research indicate that by implementing a mature owner-mandated CM/GC contract amendment template, owners can greatly reduce errors that arise during the amendment process. It should be noted, however, that challenges will most likely occur during the implementation phase. Originality/value – No similar studies were found and the results of the research informs Facilities Management departments that they can significantly reduce errors by utilizing a mature, owner-mandated template for CM/GC contract amendments.

From the project of the date and time reading in the Radar images, the OCR templates technique was applied because some Radar images do not have date and time information in their properties. The method had the problems that the Radar images could not be retrieved when the month names are changed and then the new month name templates had to be created. Therefore, this work has applied Tesseract OCR library to help read the date and time images and used Fast Normalized Cross-Correlation theory to enhance the performance of the template matching and to retrieve more Radar images. The accuracy of results in this program using Fast Normalized Cross-Correlation with OCR templates was 86 percent.

Simulation is a powerful tool for decision making. It provides an appealing approach to analyze and improve repetitive processes such as tunnelling. Notwithstanding this appeal, application of simulation to real-life construction projects has been minimal. This paper describes the design, development, and application of a special purpose simulation tool for actual tunnel construction operations performed by the City of Edmonton Public Works Department. The implementation of this tool in industry was successful and serves as a model for others to follow. The decision-making process adopted by the model developers and the construction industry personnel during the design, development, and implementation of the simulation are described. The cost-planning tool in the tunnel template is very useful in making decisions and evaluating the feasibility of tunnel construction projects. The real-life application of various alternatives compared to the conceptual estimates prepared for a proposed tunnel project to be constructed in Edmonton is presented in three stages. The basic costs, operational costs, support costs, productivity, duration, and resources utilization data are presented for different alternatives for the proposed tunnel project. Future modifications required by the engineering staff of the City of Edmonton, and the proposed research for modelling uncertainties in tunnel construction are identified. The successful application of the simulation for actual construction project highlights the interactive collaborative research work between academia and industry.Key words: simulation, tunnelling, construction, modelling, planning.

Modern innovations in public administration of construction provide significant modernization of the industry on the basis of engineering and project management - the introduction of the role of consulting engineer. This role involves a wide range of communications between all stakeholders in the investment and construction process. It may be relevant to use an information tool for modeling the product and construction processes - design and technological templates - to measure the effectiveness of these communications and, accordingly, to measure the effectiveness of the consulting engineer. The article contains the analysis of reserves of optimization of investment and construction process and the description of possibilities of these reserves realization by means of constructive-technological templates. The main provisions of the concept of " constructive technological template in construction" were described and presented as information tool for construction management. The scheme of software interaction within the concept of "constructive-technological template in construction" and the scheme of knowledge management by the consulting engineer were developed. Indicators and ways to increase the efficiency of interaction between the consulting engineer and stakeholders were shown. The indicators of efficiency of the consulting engineer under the condition of using constructive-technological templates were substantiated. The developed concept and schemes allowed to investigate the interactions of stakeholders in construction production. It is shown that when using the concept of "constructive-technological template in construction" the consulting engineer can perform a triple managerial role at a qualitatively new level. As a BIM manager, he must manage the knowledge of investment and construction activities. As a commercial specialist - must meet the requirements of participants during construction. As a construction project manager, he carries out strategic leadership and operational organization and control of construction production. On this basis, the indicators of economic and technical effect of the consulting engineer as a manager of the investment and construction process were substantiated.

This paper provides guidelines for data management professionals and researchers on how FAIR data usage can help improve the planning, execution and overall success of a cross-institutional project. Cases from Danish cross-institutional projects are detailed to illustrate this point – as well as the lessons learnt with implementing FAIR data principles in such projects. Key learnings from this paper are: Using FAIR data principles in cross-institutional projects can help manage the data used in the project in terms of knowledge sharing, access rights, use of templates, metadata and further sharing the data after the project has ended. To benefit the most from using FAIR data in a cross-institutional project it should be considered and planned for early in the project process. If FAIR is not considered early in the project process problems can arise such as a lot of time spent on converting formats, obtaining permissions and assigning metadata. It is necessary for researchers and research projects to have infrastructure and other services in place which support FAIR data usage.

AimsTo improve communication with patients and carers by sharing information in an easily comprehensible manner.BackgroundAccording to the department of health guidelines, there is legal requirement to provide copies all clinical correspondence to the patients. Therefore, after any clinic review, letters summarizing the consultation are sent out to GP and patients are copied in. However, these are not very meaningful for patients with special needs, as they struggle to comprehend information. Previous studies have shown that patients with learning disability would prefer letters in a simple language and would also like to participate in the decision making process. According to Accessible Information Standard, we have a legal obligation to deliver information to our service users in an easily understandable manner. We undertook a quality improvement pilot project of easy read templates to improve the understanding of patients and their carers/families.MethodA standard easy read template was co-produced after collecting feedback from different service users and clinicians. Pictures were incorporated into the questionnaire to facilitate understanding. We collected reviews over a period of 2 months from Nov 2019- Dec 2019. This proforma did not replace the routine clinic letter send out to the GP and the patients. This easy read template began with the introduction of the doctor (with photograph) and it encompassed mental health, physical health, current medication (and the benefits and side effects if any) and changes of medication. It also included epilepsy and the risks (risks to self and to others), vulnerability, behaviours of concern and the day-to-day activities that a service user engages in and finally about the plan formulated at the end of the consultation. At the same time, there was a separate form (with self-explanatory pictures), which collected feedback about the above mentioned appointment outcome review form.ResultTemplates were handed out to 65 patients and carers, and 60 completed the form. All patients found the template useful and helpful, mainly because it was easily comprehensible, with pictures, and also “provided instant updates”.ConclusionThis easy read template improves patients’ understanding and participation in the clinic review. This contributes to greater patient satisfaction. As Specialist Learning Disability services, we need to ensure that information is imparted to the patients and the carers in an easily understandable manner and this easy read template should be incorporated in the routine clinic practice.

PURPOSE: Patient navigation uses trained personnel to eliminate barriers to timely care across all phases of the health care continuum, thereby reducing health disparities. However, patient navigation has yet to be systematized in implementation models to improve processes of care at scale rather than remain a band-aid approach focused solely on improving care for the individual patient. The 4R systems engineering approach (right information and right treatment to the right patient at the right time) uses project management discipline principles to develop care sequence templates that serve as patient-centered project plans guiding patients and their care team. METHODS: A case-study approach focused on the underserved patient shows how facilitators to timely breast cancer screening and care pragmatically identified as emergent data by patient navigators can be actionized by iteratively revising 4R care sequence templates to incorporate new insights as they emerge. RESULTS: Using a case study of breast cancer screening of a low-income patient, we illustrate how 4R care sequence templates can be revised to incorporate emergent facilitators to care identified through patient navigation. CONCLUSION: Use of care sequence templates can inform the care team to optimize a particular patient’s care, while functioning as a learning health care system for process improvement of patient care and patient navigation scaling. A learning health care system approach that systematically integrates data patterns emerging from multiple patient navigation experiences through in-person navigators and 4R care sequence templates may improve processes of care and allow patient navigation scaling to reduce cancer disparities.

This article describes a framework for definitional analysis that presents definitions as dynamic entities encompassing both conceptual relations, following a category template pattern, and its formalization in the terminological definitional structure. The definitional analysis accounts for various levels of complexity, depending on how detailed the understanding is or needs to be in a specific contextual situation. We are presently using this methodology in a research project called OncoTerm. One of the objectives of this project is to elaborate a bilingual terminological database, whose conceptual structure is an extension of an existing resource, the Mikrokosmos Ontology. In our termbase, medical concepts are organized in categories represented by templates, which are systematically applied to all category numbers. The application of the template to more specific concepts generates values that show the inheritance of knowledge structures within a specialized domain. The definitional information within each term entry is thus totally coherent with the information regarding other terms within the same conceptual category. This approach leads to the specification of a language of terminographic definition, which is concise, consistent and applicable not only to the domain of oncology, but to other medical domains and other languages.

This paper describes an empirical study where the focus was on discovering differences and similarities in students working on development of social applications versus students working on development of games using the same Android development platform. In 2010-2011, students attending the software architecture course at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) could choose between four types of projects. Independently of the chosen type of project, all students had to go through the same phases, produce the same documents based on the same templates, and follow exactly the same process. This study focuses on one of projects—Android project, to see how much the application domain affects the course project independently of the chosen technology. Our results revealed some positive effects for the students doing game development compared to social application development to learn software architecture, like motivated to work with games, a better focus on quality attributes such as modifiability and testability during the development, production of software architectures of higher complexity, and more productive coding working for the project. However, we did not find significant differences in awarded grade between students choosing the two different domains.

ABSTRACT Background Remediation of the struggling resident is a universal phenomenon, and the majority of program directors will remediate at least 1 resident during their tenure. Objective The goal of this project was to create a standardized template for program directors to use at all stages of remediation. Methods Between 2017 and 2018, the Council of Residency Directors in Emergency Medicine (CORD-EM) Remediation Committee searched for best practices in the medical literature and compiled a survey that was e-mailed to the CORD-EM listserv. After reviewing all information, a standardized remediation contract was created, reviewed by legal counsel, and distributed to members. Results Forty-two percent (110 of 263) of program directors or assistant program directors on the CORD-EM listserv answered the initial survey and provided guidance on current remediation practices. The committee created formal and informal standard remediation contracts as both fillable templates and alterable documents. These were reviewed by CORD-EM general legal counsel and approved by the CORD-EM Board of Directors for distribution. The project took approximately 20 hours to complete over 8 months and involved a cost of $480 for legal fees. Conclusions With program director input and legal counsel review, the CORD-EM Remediation Committee produced standardized remediation contracts, which can be used by all emergency medicine programs after comparison to local institutional policy and local legal review. This process was feasible and can be replicated by other specialties.

BIM technology is widely used in expressway Construction projects. In the process of transforming two-dimensional design into three-dimensional design, there are still many problems that need to be solved urgently. Based on the Beijing-Shanghai highway reconstruction and expansion project, this paper proposes an evolutionary design method. Based on the application standard of project model technology, the method uses BIM model software, based on skeleton lines and templates, using EKL programming language to realize the structure size from coarse to fine, information from summary to detail, and progressive design method for component granularity from bottom to high. At the same time, a three-dimensional design method for automatically generating road centerlines is proposed. The results show that the evolutionary design method is in line with the current project habits, matching the existing design concepts, and can efficiently complete the design work at different stages, effectively avoiding a lot of repetitive work.

The generation of full-length cDNA databases is essential for functional genomics studies as well as for correct annotation of species genomic sequences. Human and mouse full-length cDNA projects have provided the biomedical research community with a large amount of gene information. Recent completion of the chicken genome sequence draft now enables a similar full-length cDNA project to be initiated for this species. In this report, we introduce the development of a chicken full-length cDNA database, which will facilitate future research work in this biological system. In this project, chicken expressed sequence tags (ESTs) were aligned onto human and mouse full-length cDNAs (or open reading frames) on the basis of their similarity. More than 588,000 chicken ESTs were aligned to ∼170,000 full-length human and mouse templates obtained from the NEDO, RIKEN, and MGC databases. Many of these templates have known biological functions, and their orthologous chicken genes in the EMBL database are also provided in our database, which is available at http://bioinfo.hku.hk/chicken/ . We will continue to collect known chicken full-length cDNAs to update the database for public use. The cDNA alignment results presented herein and on our database will be useful for animal science and veterinary researchers wishing to clone and to confirm full-length chicken cDNAs of interest.

Background: Data Management Plans (DMPs) are at the heart of many research funder requirements for data management and open data, including the EU’s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020. This article provides a summary of the findings of the DMP Use Case study, conducted as part of OpenAIRE Advance. Methods: As part of the study we created a vetted collection of over 800 Horizon 2020 DMPs. Primarily, however, we report the results of qualitative interviews and a quantitative survey on the experience of Horizon 2020 projects with DMPs. Results & Conclusions: We find that a significant number of projects had to develop a DMP for the first time in the context of Horizon 2020, which points to the importance of funder requirements in spreading good data management practices. In total, 82% of survey respondents found DMPs useful or partially useful, beyond them being “just” an European Commission (EC) requirement. DMPs are most prominently developed within a project’s Management Work Package. Templates were considered important, with 40% of respondents using the EC/European Research Council template. However, some argue for a more tailor-made approach. The most frequent source for support with DMPs were other project partners, but many beneficiaries did not receive any support at all. A number of survey respondents and interviewees therefore ask for a dedicated contact point at the EC, which could take the form of an EC Data Management Helpdesk, akin to the IP helpdesk. If DMPs are published, they are most often made available on the project website, which, however, is often taken offline after the project ends. There is therefore a need to further raise awareness on the importance of using repositories to ensure preservation and curation of DMPs. The study identifies IP and licensing arrangements for DMPs as promising areas for further research.

We demonstrate the use of a generic questionnaire to capture primary data and metadata description from our consortium (data creators/experimentalists and data analysts/modelers). We then display the interactive process with external FAIR data initiatives (data curators/quality assessors), regarding guidance for data and metadata capturing and future integration into repositories. After the preliminary data capturing and FAIRification template is formed, the inner-communication process begins between the partners, which leads to developing case-specific templates. In our case, the data shepherds’ (the guider of data) template creation workflow consists of the following steps: (1) Identify relevant stakeholders, (2) Distribute questionnaires to capture a general description of the data to be generated, (3) Understand the needs and requirements of each stakeholder, (4) Interactive simple communication with the stakeholders for variables/descriptors selection, and (5) Design of the template and annotation of descriptors. We provide an annotated template for capturing exposure field campaign monitoring data, and increase their interoperability, while comparing it with existing templates. This paper enables the data creators of exposure field campaign data to store data in a FAIR way and helps the scientific community, such as data shepherds, by avoiding extensive steps for template creation and by utilizing the pragmatic structure and/or the template proposed herein, in the case of a nanotechnology project (Anticipating Safety Issues at the Design of Nano Product Development, ASINA).

Many research funders have requirements for data sharing and data management plans (DMP). DMP tools are services built to help researchers to create data management plans fitting their needs and based on funder and/or organisation guidelines. Project Tuuli (2015–2017) has provided DMPTuuli, a data management planning tool for Finnish researchers and research organisations offering DMP templates and guidance. In this paper we describe how project has helped both Finnish researchers and research organisations adopt research data management best practices. As a result of the project we have also created a national Tuuli network. With growing competence and collaboration of the network, the project has reached most of its goals. The project has also actively promoted DMP support and training in Finnish research organisations.

Introduction. The mission of the research is to analyze the main principles and values of investment construction project management subject to each methodology. In the late 20th century it became clear that the majority of products, manufactured back in the days of the USSR, had counterparts, made in the Western countries, and the characteristics of the Western counterparts were a lot better. This trend favours the consumer society; however, producers must set new objectives aimed at optimization, quality improvement, and effective management to stay in the market. This is how the need for alternative sources of optimization emerged. The practical implementation of theoretical project management provisions was among the tools. It tightens control and improves the efficiency of all resources of an enterprise. The application of an advanced approach to projects, implemented by public and private partnerships, will boost interaction between the state and the business community as well as project implementation control. Project management has become an integral project development instrument, applied to software projects and many other types of business activities. The main goal is to decide upon the project methodology. Materials and methods. The project is based on the analysis of earlier research undertakings performed using methods of theoretical research, based on the study and generalization of performance charts published by domestic and foreign authors in the past. Conclusions. The co-authors have analyzed project management methodologies, including best practices and templates. A brief analysis of the methodology application track record is performed. The research digest encompasses three principal methodologies; their principles and values are analyzed in the work. Project deliverables include a comparative analysis of principles underlying PMI, Prince 2, and Agile Manifesto standards. Each principle underlying most widely used international standards of project management is described.

Introduction. Organizational development and practice of the project management system implementation is of particular interest to engineering companies that implement complex and multi-stage design and construction projects having a complex structure, a large number of stakeholders and a high degree of result individualization. In this case, a situation often arises when processes are formalized, which means that a certain list of regulatory documents are developed in which project contributors, their activities, authority and responsibility, a sequence of actions to be performed, templates of project documents, etc. are defined, but in practice these requirements are not fulfilled or not fulfilled in full. The research problem is that approaches to the formation of a project management system do not offer a universal mechanism applied to monitor the compliance with project management requirements established by inhouse regulatory documents. As a result, project contributors resist such requirements in some companies. The subject of the study is the development of a tool designated for the monitoring of compliance with regulatory documents in the field of project management in a full-cycle engineering company. Materials and methods. The method of process modeling and reengineering, statistical analysis, and the requirements management methodology were applied. Results. Features of project management in engineering companies are outlined. Research results obtained in terms of adapting the requirement management methodology and engineering project quality are analyzed. The target scheme that applies to project management quality control and project audit processes was performed. The toolkit for the project management quality control was developed and a list of indicators was formulated. The analysis of statistics on cases of failure to comply with project management quality indicators and underlying reasons is conducted. Conclusions. The project management quality control toolkit, proposed in the article, allows to analyze the compliance of project contributors with the requirements applied to project management processes formalized in a company and to increase the efficiency of various types of projects.

Purpose Inter-organisational collaboration is becoming increasingly important in complex projects; some project customers even formally require evidence of collaborative competence from potential providers. The purpose of this paper is to explore the governance of collaboration and the ways in which it is enacted in practice for complex projects. Design/methodology/approach The study is based on a qualitative analysis of 29 semi-structured interviews, primary data from meetings and events supported by secondary data, including standards and industry-specific contract templates. Findings The paper identifies how collaboration can be effectively governed in complex projects through the emerging role of the collaboration standard and its impact on contractual and relational governance mechanisms. The standard sets higher-level institutional guidelines that affect the way in which collaboration is governed in complex projects. It helps formalise informal relational practices whilst also providing guidelines for building flexibility in contracts by including coordination- and adaptation-oriented provisions conducive to collaboration. Originality/value The paper demonstrates the emerging role of the collaboration standard and its influence on contractual and relational mechanisms deployed in complex projects. It shows how the standard can formalise and codify informal collaborative practices and help transfer related learning across projects, thereby contributing towards the dual requirement for standardisation and flexibility in project settings.

Advances in corpus linguistics are of vital importance in terminology. The information obtained from corpora can be used to complement data already codified in dictionaries and termbases. In this article, we describe a framework of linguistic analysis that facilitates the extraction of conceptual information from corpora, and thus contributes to the study and analysis of terminological contexts. We are presently using this methodology in a research project called Oncoterm. One of the objectives of this project is to elaborate a bilingual terminological database, whose conceptual structure is an extension of an existing knowledge resource, the Mikrokosmos Ontology. In our termbase, medical concepts are organized in categories represented by templates, which are systematically applied to all category members. The application of the template to more specific concepts generates values that show the inheritance of knowledge structures within a specialized domain. The definitional information within each term entry is thus totally coherent with the information regarding other terms within the same conceptual category. This is conducive to the specification of a language of terminographic definition, which is concise, consistent and applicable not only to the domain of oncology, but also extensive to other medical domains and other languages.

Abstract The Center for Expanded Data Annotation and Retrieval is studying the creation of comprehensive and expressive metadata for biomedical datasets to facilitate data discovery, data interpretation, and data reuse. We take advantage of emerging community-based standard templates for describing different kinds of biomedical datasets, and we investigate the use of computational techniques to help investigators to assemble templates and to fill in their values. We are creating a repository of metadata from which we plan to identify metadata patterns that will drive predictive data entry when filling in metadata templates. The metadata repository not only will capture annotations specified when experimental datasets are initially created, but also will incorporate links to the published literature, including secondary analyses and possible refinements or retractions of experimental interpretations. By working initially with the Human Immunology Project Consortium and the developers of the ImmPort data repository, we are developing and evaluating an end-to-end solution to the problems of metadata authoring and management that will generalize to other data-management environments.

This article shows how innovations in projects may be diffused successfully within a large project-based organization (PBO) and how they ‘live on’ through their adaptation. We draw on the metaphorical notion of anthropophagy, literally ‘human cannibalism’, which is used to explain the appropriation of otherness resulting in ongoing organizational life. Prior organization literature has stressed the difficulties of the transition from the temporary to the permanent, especially the failure of database-oriented approaches, and argued that these barriers may be overcome with repeatable standardized templates. In contrast we show that multiple innovations may be adopted within the same PBO, which manifest as differentiated, combined forms. Cases in the large energy and engineering company, Petrobras, show a systematic innovation process involving subject experts, but centrally a database containing records of 1104 mandatory and discretionary innovations. The article analyses these data, process documentation and observations of 15 completed innovation projects. The article argues that in addition to technical factors the anthropophagic attitude motivates adopters to take on the innovations of others with the appetising prospect of appropriation and adaptation.

The authors reviewed various trust-requiring online environments to determine what elements were available through profile templates. A group of 226 students with experience in virtual project teams indicated the importance of the elements thus found for the formation of a first impression of trustworthiness. On the basis of the results obtained, the authors formulated recommendations for the design of personal identity profiles in groupware environments.

Benefactor organizations have greatly funded livelihood projects and programs in Kilifi County. However, these projects grapple with sustainability. Some halt operations instantaneously the funding is withdrawn. The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of monitoring and evaluation (participation; tools; and timing and frequency) on the sustainability of donor-funded livelihood projects in Kilifi County, Kenya. The descriptive correlational research design was used with a sample of 170 from a population of 295 from three livelihood projects. Seven interviews and three focus group discussions were carried out. Standard deviations, standard error of means, arithmetic means, Pearson’s Product moment correlation, and linear regression were used. The perception of sustainability did not differ significantly with projects, gender, age, and marital status. However, perception differed based on the highest level of education and duration in the project. H0, r=0.458, p=0.000389<0.05 was rejected and concluded that monitoring and evaluation significantly influenced the sustainability of donor-funded livelihood projects. Participation in M&E and (p=0.000), frequency, and timing (p=0.024) had a significant while tools used in M&E (p=0.459) did have a significant influence on sustainability. This implies that corporate and individual knowledge of the project objectives, targets, and means of measuring project results were still critical in ensuring sustainability is attained. Simple templates of the logical framework should be used for the farmers to understand how inputs are converted into activities, outputs, outcomes, and goals. It is implied that the farmers had little knowledge of Likert items denoting tools in M&E. Therefore, simple and direct Likert items need to be chosen.

We aim to improve upon contemporary methods to estimate host-galaxy reddening of stripped-envelope (SE) supernovae (SNe). To this end the Carnegie Supernova Project (CSP-I) SE SN photometry data release, consisting of nearly three dozen objects, is used to identify a minimally reddened sub-sample for each traditionally defined spectroscopic sub-type (i.e., SNe IIb, SNe Ib, SNe Ic). Inspection of the optical and near-infrared (NIR) colors and color evolution of the minimally reddened sub-samples reveals a high degree of homogeneity, particularly between 0 d to +20 d relative to B-band maximum. This motivated the construction of intrinsic color-curve templates, which when compared to the colors of reddened SE SNe, yields an entire suite of optical and NIR color excess measurements. Comparison of optical/optical vs. optical/NIR color excess measurements indicates the majority of the CSP-I SE SNe suffer relatively low amounts of reddening (i.e., E(B−V)host< 0.20 mag) and we find evidence for different RVhost values among different SE SN. Fitting the color excess measurements of the seven most reddened (i.e., E(B−V)host> 0.20 mag) objects with the Fitzpatrick (1999, PASP, 111, 63) reddening law model provides robust estimates of the host visual-extinction AVhost and RVhost. In the case of the SE SNe with relatively low amounts of reddening, a preferred value of RVhost is adopted for each sub-type, resulting in estimates of AVhost through Fitzpatrick (1999) reddening law model fits to the observed color excess measurements. Our analysis suggests SE SNe reside in galaxies characterized by a range of dust properties. We also find evidence that SNe Ic are more likely to occur in regions characterized by larger RVhost values compared to SNe IIb/Ib and they also tend to suffer more extinction. The later finding is consistent with work in the literature suggesting SNe Ic tend to occur in regions of on-going star formation.

Background: This paper presents an overview of support offered to a hospital information committee by a Hospital Information Committee Support Project (HICSP) in a rural area of South Africa. A specific focus is on the support required at various stages of the project, which was underpinned by Change Theory: any change in practice should be an on-going, phased process (pre-contemplation, contemplation and action). Additionally, change must be seen as having some benefit. Methods: A cross-sectional, mixed-methods evaluation was conducted to determine whether the project had met its aims and to explore participants’ experiences. Quantitative data included: number of meetings held, number of workshops held to develop templates, number of templates developed and in use, and number of action plans developed and implemented. Qualitative data included participants` views of the HICSP. In relation to Change Theory, data was analysed to summarise the type of support required during various stages of the HICSP. Results: Quantitative data revealed that the aims of the HICSP were met. In accordance with Change Theory, support must be regularly provided and must be on-going over a relatively prolonged period of time. Qualitative data illustrated that, generally, the support given was considered to be appropriate and participants continued to collect, analyse, use and monitor data and information on completion of the HICSP. Discussion and conclusions: The need for the strategic use of data at a local level to inform decision making and action is unquestionable. The study demonstrates that in an isolated, rural area an information committee can, in accordance with the stages of Change Theory, be supported and empowered so that hospital and nursing managers can confidently use data in a way that is locally meaningful and responsive.

The programming concepts rely strongly on dynamic genericity through the use of object oriented interfaces as well as static genericity by means of templates. This design allows a straightforward and intuitive implementation of lattice Boltzmann models with almost no loss of efficiency. The aim of this paper is to introduce the OpenLB project and to depict the underlying structure leading to a powerful development tool for lattice Boltzmann methods.

OBJECTIVES/SPECIFIC AIMS: To create a searchable public registry of all Quality Improvement (QI) projects. To incentivize the medical professionals at UF Health to initiate quality improvement projects by reducing startup burden and providing a path to publishing results. To reduce the review effort performed by the internal review board on projects that are quality improvement Versus research. To foster publication of completed quality improvement projects. To assist the UF Health Sebastian Ferrero Office of Clinical Quality & Patient Safety in managing quality improvement across the hospital system. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: This project used a variant of the spiral software development model and principles from the ADDIE instructional design process for the creation of a registry that is web based. To understand the current registration process and management of quality projects in the UF Health system a needs assessment was performed with the UF Health Sebastian Ferrero Office of Clinical Quality & Patient Safety to gather project requirements. Biweekly meetings were held between the Quality Improvement office and the Clinical and Translational Science – Informatics and Technology teams during the entire project. Our primary goal was to collect just enough information to answer the basic questions of who is doing which QI project, what department are they from, what are the most basic details about the type of project and who is involved. We also wanted to create incentive in the user group to try to find an existing project to join or to commit the details of their proposed new project to a data registry for others to find to reduce the amount of duplicate QI projects. We created a series of design templates for further customization and feature discovery. We then proceed with the development of the registry using a Python web development framework called Django, which is a technology that powers Pinterest and the Washington Post Web sites. The application is broken down into 2 main components (i) data input, where information is collected from clinical staff, Nurses, Pharmacists, Residents, and Doctors on what quality improvement projects they intend to complete and (ii) project registry, where completed or “registered” projects can be viewed and searched publicly. The registry consists of a quality investigator profile that lists contact information, expertise, and areas of interest. A dashboard allows for the creation and review of quality improvement projects. A search function enables certain quality project details to be publicly accessible to encourage collaboration. We developed the Registry Matching Algorithm which is based on the Jaccard similarity coefficient that uses quality project features to find similar quality projects. The algorithm allows for quality investigators to find existing or previous quality improvement projects to encourage collaboration and to reduce repeat projects. We also developed the QIPR Approver Algorithm that guides the investigator through a series of questions that allows an appropriate quality project to get approved to start without the need for human intervention. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: A product of this project is an open source software package that is freely available on GitHub for distribution to other health systems under the Apache 2.0 open source license. Adoption of the Quality Improvement Project Registry and promotion of it to the intended audience are important factors for the success of this registry. Thanks goes to the UW-Madison and their QI/Program Evaluation Self-Certification Tool (https://uwmadison.co1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_3lVeNuKe8FhKc73) used as example and inspiration for this project. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE OF IMPACT: This registry was created to help understand the impact of improved management of quality projects in a hospital system. The ultimate result will be to reduce time to approve quality improvement projects, increase collaboration across the UF Health Hospital system, reduce redundancy of quality improvement projects and translate more projects into publications.

AbstractCystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease in which dysfunction of a single protein channel leads to organ damage, resulting in chronic health problems and premature death. In the United States, medical care of individuals living with CF is delivered by care centers accredited and subsidized by the CF Foundation. CF outcomes have improved significantly through the use of collaborative networks, registry data, and research. CF clinicians are perpetually challenged to assimilate and act upon large quantities of data generated by the care of these individuals. CF Foundation accreditation also requires care centers to enter patient-level data from clinical encounters into the CF Foundation Patient Registry (CFFPR). Commercially available electronic health record systems often lack tools with sufficient context specificity and ease of use to facilitate productive interactions between clinicians and patients. We describe a CF-specific NoteWriter template built and implemented in Epic, which captures discrete data and simultaneously generates clinical documentation during ambulatory encounters. Unlike other examples of note templates in CF, this project involves SmartData Elements (SDEs) using the NoteWriter tool in Epic, which enables data to be entered in the exact way in which the CFFPR captures data. By conducting a pre-/poststudy of its use in our health system, we found that the template can expedite note completion when clinicians have adequate time to become familiar with the tool. We anticipate that the NoteWriter template will become a vehicle for delivering standardized, structured patient data to the CFFPR.

Using the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative, an affiliate program of ASCO, we outlined opioid-associated constipation (OAC) as a subject in need of quality improvement (QI) in our fellowship program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. We initiated a fellow-led QI project to advance the quality of patient care and provide a valuable avenue for QI training of young physicians. Fellows organized meetings with all stakeholders, addressed the scope of the problem, and devised strategies for OAC management. Monthly meetings were organized using Plan-Do-Study-Act principles. Mandatory check boxes were inserted into our electronic medical record templates to remind all physicians to identify patients on opioid medications and assess and address OAC. Final chart audit and patient satisfaction surveys were performed 6 months after project initiation. Assessment of OAC improved from 52% at baseline to 92% ( P < .003). This improvement corresponded with high patient satisfaction scores, with 90% of surveyed patients reporting adequate management of their constipation. In this QI initiative, we showed that participation in ASCO’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative helps identify areas in need of QI, and such fellow-led QI projects can serve as models for QI training of young physicians.

Background The traditional concept of personalized nutrition is based on adapting diets according to individual needs and preferences. Discussions about personalized nutrition have been on since the Human Genome Project, which has sequenced the human genome. Thenceforth, topics such as nutrigenomics have been assessed to help in better understanding the genetic variation influence on the dietary response and association between nutrients and gene expression. Hence, some challenges impaired the understanding about the nowadays important clinical data and about clinical data assumed to be important in the future. Objective Finding the main clinical statements in the personalized nutrition field (nutrigenomics) to create the future-proof health information system to the openEHR server based on archetypes, as well as a specific nutrigenomic template. Methods A systematic literature search was conducted in electronic databases such as PubMed. The aim of this systemic review was to list the chief clinical statements and create archetype and templates for openEHR modeling tools, namely, Ocean Archetype Editor and Ocean Template Design. Results The literature search led to 51 articles; however, just 26 articles were analyzed after all the herein adopted inclusion criteria were assessed. Of these total, 117 clinical statements were identified, as well as 27 archetype-friendly concepts. Our group modeled four new archetypes (waist-to-height ratio, genetic test results, genetic summary, and diet plan) and finally created the specific nutrigenomic template for nutrition care. Conclusion The archetypes and the specific openEHR template developed in this study gave dieticians and other health professionals an important tool to their nutrigenomic clinical practices, besides a set of nutrigenomic data to clinical research.

The subject of study in the article is software development processes using design patterns. The aim is to improve the quality of modern software development projects through the use of experience and knowledge, to build software subsystems that are focused on infrastructure and work with an external client. Objectives: to review the methodology, programming paradigms and the possibility of their application at the design and coding stages of the software development life cycle; development of the concept of using design patterns in software design as knowledge available for reuse, propose an approach to the practical implementation of design patterns to node.js projects. The models used are the Composite design pattern, the Chain of responsibility design pattern. The used methodologies are object-oriented programming, as the most common programming paradigm, a unified modeling language UML for displaying the structure of design patterns. The following results are obtained. Modern methodologies and design paradigms are considered, a classification is formed in the form of a tree structure with a division into declarative and imperative subspecies, it is concluded that within the framework of the study we will use an object-oriented methodology as the most common design paradigm. An example of building an information system of the node.js project is considered. Analyzed the main errors that arise when developing and writing code for working with an external client. The elements of the node.js project and the concepts of structuring their relationship with existing design patterns are considered. An example of a practical implementation of a node.js project and its relationship with the Composite and Chain of responsibility design patterns is considered. In this connection, the work provides the structure of these templates. Findings. The scientific novelty of the results obtained is as follows: the model of design patterns was further developed through their use in the concept of building a node.js application, which makes it possible to improve the quality of interaction between the project team and reduce its execution time.

The possibility of constructing an Internet application that would enable greenhouse users to track climate and control parameters from any Internet-connected computer was investigated. By constructing a set of HTML-templates, dynamic information from the control-system databases was integrated in real-time, and was uploaded to a common net-server by automatic generation of web pages using software developed during the project. Good performance, reliability and security were obtained and the technology proved to be an efficient way of supplying a broad range of users not only with climatic data but also with results from ongoing research.

Domestic craft-based textile activities, such as knitting, crochet, hand weaving and lace making, are often viewed as being of limited creative potential. The perceived lack of creativity arises, in part, out of the extent to which these activities copy, reproduce and re-create existing pattern forms and use preexisting templates. This paper reports on the findings of an experimental research project that explored the creative potential of crochet lace making using digital media, technologies and practices. It provides critical analysis of how new technologies, practices and theoretical frameworks have implications for ongoing domestic craft-based textile activities.

This paper discusses the challenges, process and reasons for collecting case studies / exemplars of good practice from practitioners to enrich The National Information Literacy Framework (Scotland). The lessons learned show that there is a tendency for people to think they are not doing anything special and therefore do not respond to emails for exemplars of good practice. They are however once contacted happy to share their practice. It is therefore essential to use networks of contacts, leave plenty of time to talk, visit and work with people on submitting their work as a case study / exemplar. Sharing practice also contributes to professional development both for the individual and their community and to the field of research. Background information is provided on the national framework, the project funding, the project partners and the range of examples collected for different sectors. In Canada, the spiritual care landscape in health care settings is becoming more regulated and standardized documentation is part of this rigorous environment. Staff chaplains at The Ottawa Hospital participated in a Quality Improvement project that aimed to advance patient-centered care through better charting practices. A sample of 104 spiritual-care assessments that had been posted on the patient electronic health record was examined. This chart review focused on chaplains’ activities that were reported as interventions as well as chaplain-reported outcomes for the patient. These interventions and outcomes were coded into discreet categories in order to get a better sense of the activities and the impact of their work. The chaplains’ electronic charting content and practices were evaluated. Chaplains found that the Quality Improvement process was beneficial as they updated their electronic templates in order to meet the new reporting requirements of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.

As the 21st Century world assumes an increasingly urban landscape, the question of how definitive urban spaces are to be governed intensifies. At the heart of this debate lies a question about the degree and type of autonomy that towns and cities might have in shaping their economic, environmental, social and cultural geography. This paper aims to examine this question. Starting with the premise that the degree of autonomy any particular town or city has is inherently an empirical question – one which can only be conceptualised in relational terms vis-à-vis the distributed, networked and territorialised responsibilities and powers of the city and the nation-state and other zones of connection – we examine four different contexts where debates over autonomy have intensified in recent history (Brazil, UK, India and South Africa). Drawing on recent respective histories, we identify key elements and enablers in the making of urban autonomy: a characteristic that exists in a variety of guises and forms and creates a patchwork landscape of differentially powerful fragments. We reveal how, beyond its characteristic as a political ideal, autonomy surfaces as a practice that emerges from within specific sectors of particular societies and through their relationship with national and regional politics. Four alternative forms of urban autonomy are delineated: fragmented, coerced (or enclave), distributed and networked. We contend that the spatial templates for autonomy are not predetermined but can be enhanced in multiple different sites and forms of political space within the city. This enhancement appears essential for the integration and strengthening of capacities for sustainable and just forms of development throughout the urban.
