Abstract This article offers an introduction to the Textual History of the Ethiopic Old Testament (THEOT) project. This includes a description of the background to THEOT and its primary purpose of mapping the history of the transmission of the Ethiopic Old Testament. The bulk of the article summarizes the project’s preliminary findings, generally, and, in particular, about Ethiopic Psalms, Song of Songs, Deuteronomy, Ruth, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, and Haggai. Some attention is also given to evidences of contact with the Hebrew text tradition, although the Ethiopic is clearly a daughter version of the LXX.

The following article attempts to answer the question if it is possible to find criteria enabling to solve the ethical-political dilemmas such as the one of Rospudy Valley on the grounds of Jonas ethical theory, the answer to this question is reconsidered in the context of Jonas philosophical project which is the establishment of ethics for life in the ontology of organic being. On the grounds of metaphysics, Jonas justifies the constitutive link between consciousness with being and the absolute good in affirmation of the importance of existence over non-existence. Jonas shows both the continuity and special discontinuity of the human being within the domain of the livings However, he is not able to support his argument that the human being is the primary object of responsibility being ahead of other forms of organic life. Jonas ethical theory ought to include the specification of moral principles that will be useful for clarifying the matters that must be preserved and defended.

Across various projects in the 1960s and ’70s, Joan Jonas created forms of self-portraiture enmeshed within environments. Engaging a range of media including mirrors, water, and video, Jonas repeatedly emphasized her body’s interrelation with surrounding natural and media ecologies. The resultant ecological portraits offer a model of being that encourages audiences to acknowledge their own embodiment in encounters with nature, whether experienced directly or through mediation. This article excavates this intermedia practice and explores the forms of ecocritical thought her performances and records might produce. Working in an era of expanding media experiments across performance, sculpture, and video, Jonas’s multimedia projects collaborate with the surrounding environment to explore the emergent openness of art in the 1970s. This article takes Jonas’s Disturbances (1974) as its starting point, arguing that Jonas featured the reflective and refractive properties of water to meditate upon the ecological resonances of the myth of Narcissus, the distorting optics of video, and the mediation of nature broadly. Similarly, in recent projection-based projects, Jonas has continued her exploration of the body’s relationship to both nature and media by incorporating her body into projected nature videos. In keeping with her stated unwillingness to “penetrate space,” ecological portraits across Jonas’s career reveal her multidirectional entanglements with spaces near and far, from waves in a pool to global oceanic crises.

The anomaly of Jonah's attitude in rejecting God's call (Jonah 1) and his anger at Nineveh's conversion caused various opinions on the genre of his book. This encourages the need to produce new findings to narrow the view of experts by placing the book of Jonah as satire literature. The purpose of this research is to describe the satire elements contained in the prologue and epilogue of the book of Jonah. The method used in this research is a narrative approach using a modified method that departs from the four narrative elements namely the narrator, character (characterization), point of view, and storyline then combined with some elements of general interpretation in it. through the narrative analysis method, the researcher sees the text as a "mirror" that projects a certain picture, namely the world of narratives that provides benefits to explore the forms and elements of the prologue and epilogical satire texts of the book of Jonah. The results showed that Irony underlies all elements of satire spread in articles 1 and 4. Researchers classify the elements of irony as personification, repetition, hyperbole, sarcasm, paronomasia, and parody. These characteristics indicate Jonah 1 and 4 are narratives containing satire. The implication of the teaching of the church by referring to the didactic values in the satire of the story of Satire Jonah can be used as a reference for learning the truth of God's Word.

Bioethical challenges associated with the development of human e mbryo genome editing technologies are being investigated. The role of bioethics as a forum for discussing the interdisciplinary anthropological and ethical problems generated by the progress of biomedical technologies is noted. The basis of contradictions and discussions around the acceptability of the technologies under consideration is the value ambivalence associated with the difference between the artificial and the natural. Almost any innovation in the field of biology and medicine, and here genome editing technologies are no exception, since its inception has been at the epicenter of a sharp ideological confrontation between supporters of the progressive technological transformation of the world and their opponents from the camp of environmentally concerned people of bio-conservative values. Progressive ideas are refined through ideas the life instrumentalization. Bio-conservative ideas are substantiated by the principle of natality H. Arendt, which is used by J. Habermas in criticizing neo-eugenic projects and supported by G. Jonas in the concept of ecological imperative. The problem of the moral status of embryos, the specific advantages and disadvantages of conservative and liberal positions are analyzed, and a retroactive model of the moral status of embryos is proposed, which represents a specific social construction. The project of normative monitoring of the consequences of using human embryo genome editing technologies Sh. Yasanoff is discussed. Its connection with the ideas of ethics of responsibility of H. Jonas is established.

Dialogical Self Theory has contributed to the endeavors to map and grid self-identity work in transition from military to civilian life throughout an empirical and longitudinal research project which focuses on existential dimensions. This article is based on a case study from this project and centers upon Sergeant Jonas, who, upon his return from deployment in Afghanistan, struggled with his transition as a new existential position was vocalized throughout the following annual interviews. This voice narrated feelings of meaninglessness, emptiness, and of having been deceived. In turn, this existential voice required an answer to a question which apparently had no answer. The meaning-making eventually evolved into an acceptance which enabled Jonas to proceed with his life. Dialogical processes between positions are important in order to go on with life amid existential concerns in the aftermath of military service since dialogicality of the self opens up a complex of dynamics of meaning-making processes, negotiations, and transformations. Based on the findings, it is suggested that the Personal Position Repertoire could potentially be strengthened by the addition of an internal existential position to its standard repertoire, at least when working with military personnel and/or veterans.

Background: The past decades two trends has been detected in the society. First of all, the new economy has brought along globalisation as a striking trend, and secondly we have been hit by some kind o f"projectification". The two trends seem to work against each other on several levels and global companies have a hard time coping with both at the same time.

Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to describe how an international development project is organised and show what impacts a MNC structure has on its projects concerning management and communication. Method: In order to reach an understanding, a qualitative case study was performed, and several interviews with people within a Ericsson project was made. In addition, Ericsson internal material and project documentation was used.

Findings: We found that the global structure very much has an impact on the project studied and that it did not have the characteristics that, literature of today describes, is common for projects. Since the project consist of several independent subsidiary we would not like to call it a project organised in a matrix, but rather described as an "intra-corporational consortium". Because of this structure, there are implications for management and communication as well. The management, we believe, is more done by "good will", and there is a strong resistance for communicating since there is a belief that information will handle all problems.

Background: Society of today is characterised by greater dynamics and a constant demand for innovation and fresh ideas. This development is often named "the new economy" or "the knowledge society". Independent of how one chooses to name this society, most individuals seem to agree upon the fact that knowledge grows more and more important. New competencies, such as new knowledge and new forms of organising, will be demanded for corporations to be successful in the future. In recent years it has become more common with corporations based on projects. In this context it is interesting to discuss the spread of knowledge.

Purpose: We aim at create understanding for the spread of knowledge, through focusing on corporate culture, organisational routines, and processes of knowledge transfer in corporation based on projects.

Realisation: This paper is based on a study of two IT-companies, Cell Network and Framfab. The empirical material, chiefly collected through interviews, has been analysed with starting-point in the frame of references.

Conclusions: We came to the conclusion that corporate culture, organisational routines, and processes of knowledge transfer, studied separately is not enough to explain the spread of knowledge. Instead the three variables co-operate. Corporate culture cerates common values, organisational routines guide behaviour, and the processes of knowledge transfer results in the actual spread of knowledge.

This thesis carries out a study of the diary in the work of Jonas Mekas, throughout three formats: the written diary, the diary-film and the video diary. The aim is to analyze how Mekas?s work contributes to an understanding of the diary as a narrative form, and how the author constructs his process of self-representation by means of the diaries. This work seeks to establish a definition for the diary, by means of theoretical references related to the spheres of literature (Braud, 2006; Simonet-Tenant, 2004; Girard, 1986; Lejeune, 2015; Blanchot, 2005) and of audiovisual work (James, 2013; Renov, 1996). As object of study, we analyze the book I had nowhere to go (1991), the diary-films Lost Lost Lost (1976), Walden ? Diaries, Sketches & Notes (1969), Reminiscences of a Journey to Lithuania (1972), and video diaries from the 365 Day Project (2007). This thesis takes weavings (Daney, 2007; Benjamin, 1994) and rends (Daney, 2007; Didi-Huberman, 2014, 2015) as its methodology, grounding itself on the way in which Mekas elaborates his narrative choices and his historical condition. We conclude that Mekas?s work points to an understanding of the diary not solely as literary genre, but as a narrative that affirms itself in a plurality of forms, following the shifts done by the author in his relation to time, space, and the use of different technical devices. We also conclude that Mekas, in his diaries, builds an intrinsic relation between narrating the lived and living the narrated, which reveals how the diaries not only document a certain socio-historical context, but are also themselves part of that context and of the subjectivity built by their author.
Como objetos de estudo, s?o analisados o livro I had nowhere to go (1991), os filmes-di?rio Lost Lost Lost (1976), Walden ?

One of the most enlightening examples of essay films exploring filmmaking is the unique dialogue between José Luis Guerín and Jonas Mekas. Taking part in the larger Todas las cartas. Correspondencias fílmicas project, the two directors exchanged nine video letters from December 2009 to April 2011. In his chapter Fernando Canet embarks on a close analysis of this filmed correspondence. It quickly transpires that both filmmakers are cinephilic and fervent enthusiasts of their trade; they live by and for the cinema, and typically express their personal reflections on cinema in or through their filmmaking practice. Their filmed letters generate ‘ideas’ about film as a reflective and critical response as well as an alternative approach to traditional criticism.

Artists’ correspondences are typically imagined as an exchange in written letters, but for filmmakers the increasing usage of digital technology has enabled the possibility of exchanging video letters. One interesting example of filmed letters is the The Complete Letters: Filmed Correspondences project, which was commissioned by Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona and exhibited in 2011–2012. Whereas traditional artists’ correspondence is premised upon reciprocity and enables self-reflection, the shift from the written word to the video letter undermines and complicates the reflexive potentiality of a transformative dialogue. In these filmed correspondences, there is little mutual sensibility of cinema. Instead we see contrasting methods, approaches, and ways of thinking about image-making, which is especially evident in the Guerín–Mekas pairing.

Abstract This chapter examines Dickens’s return to first-person narration in Great Expectations, arguing that Pip’s frequent invocations of the mental work that goes on outside his consciousness are part of Dickens’s efforts to undergird his soul-based psychology with the metaphysical latency theorized by Sir William Hamilton. But while Hamilton’s model of latency appears to conflate unconsciousness with the powers of the soul when freed of the body, other theories of unconsciousness suggested that what was latent to the mind was merely the body, the nerves and fibers that underlay consciousness. Key here are two such theories, those offered by Alexander Bain and Herbert Spencer, both of whom melded their physical models of unconsciousness with the latest advances of associationist psychology, rendering especially problematic for Dickens’s anti-materialist project the ambiguities inherent in the language of association. In considering Spencer’s psychological work, this chapter situates Great Expectations in the midst of evolutionary debate, but evolution of a sort quite different from Darwin’s natural selection. Instead, Spencer’s evolutionary psychology, which posited the hereditary transmission of inherited characteristics, redefined the notion of habit—so central to Great Expectations—as the source of those innate qualities that were seen by faculty psychologists to be the gifts of God. Great Expectations’s deployment of the discourse of habit, like Martin Chuzzlewit’s treatment of Jonas Chuzzlewit, thus inadvertently threatens to deny the immortal soul that, for Dickens, separates humankind from the beasts and serves as evidence of the existence of God.

The term ‘neo-Kantianism’ indicates various attempts at a renewal of Kant’s philosophy in the modern context. It began with the rehabilitation of Kant to overcome the speculative turn of classical German idealism and ground philosophy in the investigation of the conditions of knowledge. In this sense, the origins of neo-Kantianism are sometimes dated back to figures opposing speculative idealism in the early nineteenth-century philosophical landscape, including Johann Friedrich Herbart, Jakob Friedrich Fries, Friedrich Eduard Beneke (Beiser 2014). Philosophers from the next generation sharing the commitment to a Kantian theory of knowledge also include Kuno Fischer, Eduard Zeller, Otto Liebmann, Jürgen Bona Meyer, Friedrich Albert Lange. More specifically, ‘neo-Kantianism’ is used to indicate a philosophical movement developed beginning in the 1870s with the intent to shed light on the basic tenets of Kant’s work and face challenges to traditional philosophy coming from nineteenth-century scientific advancements in the spirit of Kant’s critical philosophy (see, e.g., Köhnke 1991; Patton 2005; Luft 2015). The neo-Kantian movement started with Hermann Cohen’s seminal interpretation of Kant (Cohen 1871a; 1877; 1885), and subsequently flourished in German universities, with two main centres in Marburg, where Cohen was appointed lecturer in 1873, and in South West Germany. The development of experimental methods in nineteenth-century life sciences offered important insights for the theory of knowledge, but also raised the question about the possibility of reducing cognitive processes to physical ones. Kant’s critical philosophy offered a powerful argument against materialism, by limiting the validity of causal explanations to the realm of appearances rather than replacing them with metaphysical explanations. In conjunction with the materialism controversy, the 1860s saw a resurgence of interest in classical interpretative issues concerning Kant, including the assumption of a thing in itself, its relation to the sensibility, the status of a priori elements of knowledge. Following a suggestion first made by the physiologist and physicist Hermann von Helmholtz, some of those who argued for a return to Kant believed that Kant’s a priori forms deserved an empirical explanation. In contrast with this, Cohen emphasized that the individuation of a priori elements of knowledge requires a meta-level inquiry into the presuppositions of the sciences, that is, what Kant identified as the transcendental cognition. Cohen took Kant to imply that experience is given in the fact of science, and the transcendental task is to derive the preconditions for the possibility of this fact by regressive analysis. This formulation allowed Cohen to address the controversial issues raised in the Kant scholarship by emphasizing the logical structure of experience, while considering part of Kant’s considerations about the natural sources of knowledge to be a remainder of his reliance on empirical psychology in the precritical period. At the same time, Cohen’s interpretation of Kant set the task of a novel investigation of the historically documented facts of science and culture in the wake of the transcendental method. Cohen’s interpretation set a standard, not only for its contribution to the historical reconstruction of the development of Kant’s thought, but also for the idea of a fruitful correlation between interpretation and philosophical theorizing. In this sense, the revival of Kant’s critical philosophy involved also the idea of a constant renewal of it. Over the next decade, other influential interpretations were developed with various theoretical purposes, from the attempt to integrate the Kantian theory of a priori cognition with insights derived from the empiricist theory of knowledge (Riehl 1876; 1879) to the appreciation of Kant’s attempt to account for the application of universal rules of thought outside the domain of the mathematical science of nature in the third Critique (Windelband 1878–80). The Marburg School formed in the wake of Cohen’s characterization of the transcendental method. Its main representatives were Paul Natorp, who became Cohen’s colleague at Marburg in 1885, and Ernst Cassirer, who studied there from 1896 to 1899, and continued to subscribe to the methodology of his Marburg teachers throughout his intellectual career. The South West German School developed around Wilhelm Windelband’s teaching at the universities of Freiburg from 1877 to 1882, Strasbourg from 1882 to 1903, and Heidelberg from 1903 to 1915. Other leading figures of this school were Heinrich Rickert and his student Emil Lask. There were also neo-Kantians who did not strictly belong to a school or combined neo-Kantianism with other philosophical traditions. This includes, for example, Alois Riehl, Jonas Cohn, Richard Hönigswald. Each school focused on some common themes. Marburg neo-Kantians gradually broadened the scope of their research from Kant to the philosophical and scientific roots of what they called a critical or scientific form of idealism, according to which the objects of experience are constructed by scientific concepts. They sought to provide an account for the various spheres of human experience by extending the transcendental inquiry from the fact of science to the facts of culture. South West German neo-Kantians focused on the question concerning the grounds for relating unconditionally valid values to contingent experience. This led them to engage in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century debate about the possibility of an autonomous foundation of the human sciences. They pursued the project of a philosophy of culture offering a unitary account of the various human activities from the standpoint of the theory of values. These commonalities notwithstanding, neo-Kantianism was a complex movement, with internal debates and major developments within the same school, as well as connections between different schools and traditions. Neo-Kantianism dominated the philosophical scene until the early 1910s, and remained in the background of the main philosophical innovations in the German-speaking world for the next two decades until the rise of Nazism. It is considered to have made lasting contribution in epistemology, philosophy of science, history of philosophy and philosophy of culture (see, e.g., Luft and Makkreel 2010; De Warren and Staiti 2015; Edgar and Patton 2018; Kinzel and Patton 2021).

To increase energy-efficiency and reduce CO2e emissions in maritime shipping, Decision-Support Systems (DSS) can be leveraged. Specifically, in regard to reducing the greatest contributor to consumption, propulsion (IMO, 2021), by assisting seafarers in route planning, and timely and efficient re-planning, as well as general monitoring of ship’s energy dynamics. However, the successful integration and acceptance of these systems into the seafarer’s workflow pose significant challenges, such as goal conflicts, e.g. with safety or with the financial interests of different stakeholders, which require a deep understanding of interactions onboard and onshore. This paper reflects on our implementation of a transdisciplinary design research approach for developing novel, human-centered AI-based tools for energy-efficient ship operations. Of our concurrent studies, we describe selected forms of inquiry that together resulted in a holistic understanding of the application domain, target audience, and typical tasks as well as an interactive prototype of a decision support system for energy-efficient ship navigation. The research activities reported are based on human factors research concerning energy-efficient ship operations and focus on research through design in the sense of Jonas (2015) in the field of DSS for CO2e emission mitigation in navigation and ship operation, and the formative evaluation of a DSS prototype in a ship simulator environment (N = 22). By viewing these research activities through the lens of design research, more specifically the theoretical foundation of MAPS (Jonas et al., 2010), we systematically describe and discuss their individual contributions. MAPS specifically operationalized design research as “Matching Analysis, Projection and Synthesis”, enabling integrative, systematic research processes across boundaries of disciplinary bodies of knowledge, domains and actors. As a primary contribution, we reflect on our lessons learned to identify generalizable challenges for similar future projects of the maritime ergonomics community. These include (1) context-sensitive integration of navigational and operational data; (2) calibration of users’ expectations of the system’s capabilities; and related to this (3) increasing transparency of how the DSS retrieves and processes data, and of how confident it is in its suggestions. By considering key human factors, such as workload, autonomy and biases (e.g., automation bias) on the basis of our system, we demonstrate how these challenges can be addressed. As a secondary contribution, we also share our resulting designs as examples of how AI-based decision support for optimizing energy efficiency can be visually and functionally integrated into onboard ship operation and navigation.REFERENCESIMO, 2021.
