Robust goal programming (RGP) is an emerging field of research in decision-making problems with multiple conflicting objectives and uncertain parameters. RGP combines robust optimization (RO) with variants of goal programming techniques to achieve stable and reliable goals for previously unspecified aspiration levels of the decision-maker. The RGP model proposed in Kuchta (2004) and recently advanced in Hanks, Weir, and Lunday (2017) uses classical robust methods. The drawback of these methods is that they can produce optimal values far from the optimal value of the “nominal” problem. As a proposal for overcoming the aforementioned drawback, we propose light RGP models generalized for the budget of uncertainty and ellipsoidal uncertainty sets in the framework discussed in Schöbel (2014) and compare them with the previous RGP models. Conclusions regarding the use of different uncertainty sets for the light RGP are made. Most importantly, we discuss that the total goal deviations of the decision-maker are very much dependent on the threshold set rather than the type of uncertainty set used.

The lighting system of a car consist of lighting and signaling devices mounted to the front, rear and sides. The car has equipped with blinking turn signals to letting information for the other drivers. Sometimes the drivers didn’t noticed that the rear flickering light is not blinking. This condition is a major cause of accidents. The study aim to develop the Alternative Rear Flickering Light System. It is designed to turn the brake lights in flashing mode to replace the broken rear flickering signal. At the same time, a blue light indicator is placed on the dashboard to alert the driver. The system uses the Arduino programming to create hardware or programs for vehicles’ flickering light. The programming of Arduino has been tested for brake lamp (red color), blinking testing (right and left signal) and alternative flickering (brake lamp blinking). The result has been successful for several attempts the coding on Arduino. This system solves of the main problems encountered for every driver when the rear flickering light is not working. This can also turn the other drivers to be aware of the warning given on the headlights.

Traffic lights are an important part of urban roads. They improve traffic conditions but bring about a limitation of driving speed in the space–time domain for vehicles. In this paper, a traffic light model based on a vehicle–road cooperative system is built. The model provides the vehicle with speed constraints when passing the green light in the time–space domain. A global-optimization-based energy management strategy based on dynamic programming (DP) is constructed with the constraints. The simulations are performed for two driving situations of different signal phases with the electric vehicle driven by a single power source. Compared with the traditional fixed speed driving strategy and green light optimal speed advisory (GLOSA) system, the energy management strategy proposed in this paper is able to control operating points of the motor to be distributed in more efficiency areas. A higher economy is achieved from simulation results.

Today on the highway, especially on crossing roads, motor vehicle users are increasing, both motorbike and car drivers. Not only that, it can be seen from the number that has increased greatly every day. This situation requires the existence of a time setting, whose purpose is nothing but to reduce congestion to the risk of accidents. Therefore, in this study, a traffic light simulation is controlled by OMRON CP1E-N30SDR-A PLC. Traffic light simulation at the three intersections based on PLC OMRON CP1E-N30SDR-A has been made a traffic light control prototype to set the timing of traffic lights at the three intersections based on OMRON CP1E-N30SDR-A PLC. The method used for this research is observation, looking for references about sending data at traffic lights and can be processed on PLC systems. Observations were carried out directly at the place of data collection, namely at Simpang 3 Balikpapan Permai. Programming used to instruct traffic light simulations is to use a ladder diagram programming language created using CX-Programmer software. The purpose of this study is to make a traffic light system in the form of a simulation or prototype that has timing from intersection 3 of Balikpapan Permai. In traffic light simulations, timers are needed to synchronize between available intersections, namely 3 intersections. This is so that the vehicle that passes from one intersection where the traffic light conditions at that time is a green light, then the vehicle no longer waits at the next intersection. The signal is sent from one intersection to another as an indicator so that the intersection can automatically adjust the timing of traffic lights.

A new bio-inspired meta-heuristic, called the micro artificial immune system (MAIS), has been developed in order to reduce the rates of pollution for a specific region of Mexico City through the optimization of vehicular flow. Simulation of urban mobility (SUMO) was used to simulate the effects of the programming of the traffic lights obtained by the MAIS. Currently, pollution and travel times from one place to another are increasing due to the number of inhabitants that live in big cities, which has generated a decrease in people’s quality of life. Hence, we propose the optimization of the programming of the sequences of traffic lights through this bio-inspired meta-heuristic. The obtained results show that the MAIS outperforms most of the algorithms tested in this research.

In order to make the color of image display more realistic, optimize the use of energy, and improve the light efficiency of the module through reasonable spectral distribution, this paper proposes a backlight spectral optimization algorithm based on linear programming. With the goal of maximizing the backlight luminous efficiency, the theoretical maximum of the luminous efficiency of the backlight spectrum can be achieved by constructing a linear programming model. The research process is to obtain the optimal distribution of transmittance spectrum by linear programming method on the premise of ensuring the color gamut standard of display system. The results show that the light efficiency can be increased to 335.5 lm/W, while the original light efficiency of the system is less than 150 lm/W. With the goal of maximizing the light efficiency, light sources with narrow bandwidths such as lasers and quantum dot materials can be used to simulate and reconstruct these characteristic wavelengths. There will be easier to approach the ideal optimization spectrum and achieve the theoretical maximum luminous efficiency of 610.8 lm/W.

The primary program development principles and techniques of detailed drawings and CNC programming based on three-dimensional solid model for light gage steel structure are discussed. Components of the structure with complex spatial relationships and construction details are shown directly, accurately and completely based on 3D solid model, and structure properties and design requirements are integrated into the intelligent model. Therefore, drawings and detailed drawings can be drawn and labeled automatically by projecting and hiding with the extracted geometric information of particular entities. Further more, an automatic programming method for computerized numerical control is proposed, and CNC program are encoded according to manufacture information of parts in the model.

This study examined the beliefs constructed by college students enrolled in an introductory course in Pascal programming regarding the larger programming process, including design, debugging, testing, and maintenance, as well as coding. Students rated programs on the criteria of ease of comprehension, ease of debugging and testing, ease of maintenance, modification, and extension, and quality of overall design; they also justified their ratings orally. These same interviews were repeated with expert programmers as the participants. The students' and experts' justifications showed that students noticed the advantages of avoiding complexity, while experts noticed the advantages of managing complexity. This article discusses these results in light of the constructivist framework and suggests implications for instruction.

One of the main factors influencing the efficiency of solar cells is their optical properties. So, most light is reflecting back and transmit through solar cell. This leads to a decrease in the efficiency. We know that the refractive index of silicon is 3-4 depending on the wavelength of light, and the refractive index of air is about 1. This causes to reflect 34 percentages of the incident light. To reduce the amount of reflected light, the surface of the solar cell should be covered with an anti-reflection layer. It is important to determine the conditions of the types and thicknesses of the material covering the surface of the solar cell. Semiconductor devices modeling has become very popular. Because the results obtained through modeling are very close to the experimental results. In this study, we also modeled the solar cell with and without an anti-reflective layer using the Sentaurus TCAD software package and presented the results obtained. A new program was developed using the C # programming language, and a library was developed to help new researchers study the optical properties of solar cells directly for that program, and a number of results were obtained.

Abstract: Traffic signal control frameworks are generally used to monitor and control the progression of cars through the intersection of roads. Moreover, a portable controller device is designed to solve the issue of emergency vehicles stuck in overcrowded roads. The main objective of this paper is to design and implement a suitable algorithm and its simulation for an intelligent traffic signal simulator. The framework created can detect the presence or nonappearance of vehicles within a specific reach by setting appropriate duration for traffic signals to react accordingly. By employing mathematical functions and algorithms to ascertain the suitable timing for the green signal to illuminate, the framework can assist with tackling the issue of traffic congestion. Blooming Phalaenopsis orchids have become a popular pot plant in recent years. Plants start producing spikes after experiencing cool air in early fall, bloom in early spring, and become limited in supply after April when market demand is strong. Deferring spiking and flowering by maintaining the greenhouse air constantly above 28°C is cost prohibitive. Previous research has discovered that plants must be given light while being exposed to cool air to induce spiking. In Fall 1994, 2-year old Phalaenopsis TAM Butterfly plants were exposed to repeated cycles of 1 day in darkness and another day in light (1D/1L), 4D/3L, 7D/7L, or 0D/7L (continuous lighted control) between 15 Sept. and 16 Dec. Each plant was removed from the treatment once it had started spiking. The control plants bloomed on 20 Jan. 1995, whereas the 4D/3L plants did not reach anthesis until April 17, nearly three months later. Flowering of the 1D/1L and 7D/7L plants was also deferred until early April. The treatments had no adverse effect on flower count or size. In 1995, 3-year old plants were exposed to 0D/7L (control), 2D/5L, 3D/4L, 4D/3L, or 5D/2L from 15 Sept. to 22 Jan. 1996. The control plants spiked on 17 Oct. and bloomed on 8 Feb. 1996 when spikes had just emerged from plants in the 5D/2L treatment. The 5D/2L plants are expected to bloom in late May or early June. The other treatments were not as effective as that in 1994 and resulted in blooming only 2–3 weeks after the untreated control. The results of this research will help producers to stagger or precisely program the time of flowering to meet the market demand.

Cordyceps militaris is currently exploited for commercial production of specialty products as its biomass constituents are enriched in bioactive compounds, such as cordycepin. The rational process development is important for economically feasible production of high quality bioproducts. Light is an abiotic factor affecting the cultivation process of this entomopathogenic fungus, particularly in its carotenoid formation. To uncover the cell response to light exposure, this study aimed to systematically investigate the metabolic responses of C. militaris strain TBRC6039 using integrative genome-wide transcriptome and genome-scale metabolic network (GSMN)-driven analysis. The genome-wide transcriptome analysis showed 8747 expressed genes in the glucose and sucrose cultures grown under light-programming and dark conditions. Of them, 689 differentially expressed genes were significant in response to the light-programming exposure. Through integration with the GSMN-driven analysis using the improved network (iRT1467), the reporter metabolites, e.g., adenosine-5′-monophosphate (AMP) and 2-oxoglutarate, were identified when cultivated under the carotenoid-producing condition controlled by light-programming exposure, linking to up-regulations of the metabolic genes involved in glyoxalase system, as well as cordycepin and carotenoid biosynthesis. These results indicated that C. militaris had a metabolic control in acclimatization to light exposure through transcriptional co-regulation, which supported the cell growth and cordycepin production in addition to the accumulation of carotenoid as a photo-protective bio-pigment. This study provides a perspective in manipulating the metabolic fluxes towards the target metabolites through either genetic or physiological approaches.

Light is a crucial environmental signal that affects elements of human health, including the entrainment of circadian rhythms. A suboptimal environment during pregnancy can increase the risk of offspring developing a wide range of chronic diseases in later life. Circadian rhythm disruption in pregnant women may have deleterious consequences for their progeny. In the modern world, maternal chronodisruption can be caused by shift work, jet travel across time zones, mistimed eating, and excessive artificial light exposure at night. However, the impact of maternal chronodisruption on the developmental programming of various chronic diseases remains largely unknown. In this review, we outline the impact of light, the circadian clock, and circadian signaling pathways in pregnancy and fetal development. Additionally, we show how to induce maternal chronodisruption in animal models, examine emerging research demonstrating long-term negative implications for offspring health following maternal chronodisruption, and summarize current evidence related to light and circadian signaling pathway targeted therapies in pregnancy to prevent the development of chronic diseases in offspring.

Inflatable structures offer a path for light deployable structures in medicine, architecture, and aerospace. In this study, we address the challenge of programming the shape of thin sheets of high-stretching modulus cut and sealed along their edges. Internal pressure induces the inflation of the structure into a deployed shape that maximizes its volume. We focus on the shape and nonlinear mechanics of inflated rings and more generally, of any sealed curvilinear path. We rationalize the stress state of the sheet and infer the counterintuitive increase of curvature observed on inflation. In addition to the change of curvature, wrinkles patterns are observed in the region under compression in agreement with our minimal model. We finally develop a simple numerical tool to solve the inverse problem of programming any 2-dimensional (2D) curve on inflation and illustrate the application potential by moving an object along an intricate target path with a simple pressure input.

It had two kinds of programming method, manual teaching-programming and off-line programming. The test shows that its volume is small and its weight is light to easy to operate robot handily.

Unfortunately, a high-level system for developing new applications is lacking, and programmers are forced to resort to complicated ad hoc solutions.This papers presents TCHR, a high-level framework for tabled Constraint Logic Programming. It integrates in a light-weight manner Constraint Handling Rules (CHR), a high-level language for constraint solvers, with tabled Logic Programming. The framework is easily instantiated with new application-specific constraint domains. Various high-level operations can be instantiated to control performance. In particular, we propose a novel, generalized technique for compacting answer sets.

Virtual Interface Architecture(VIA) is a light-weight protocol for protected user-level zero-copy communication. In spite of the promised high performance of VIA, previous MPI implementations for GigaNet's cLAN revealed low communication performance. Two main sources of such low performance are the discrepancy in the communication model between MPI and VIA and the multi-threading overhead. In this paper, we propose a new implementation of the Bulk Synchronous Parallel(BSP) programming library for VIA called xBSP to overcome such problems. To the best of our knowledge, xBSP is the first implementation of the BSP library for VIA. xBSP demonstrates that the selection of a proper library is important to exploit the features of light-weight protocols. Intensive use of Remote Direct Memory Access(RDMA) operations leads to high performance close to the native VIA performance with respect to round trip delay and bandwidth. Considering the effects of multi-threading, memory registration, and completion policy on performance, we could obtain an efficient BSP implementation for cLAN, which was confirmed by experimental results.

The new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) proposal includes few improvements compared to previous programming periods which may reinforce future evaluation, but we can also observe elements that may weaken the assessment, with the risk of repeating past failures. The objective of this essay is to analyse the new framework proposed for evaluation in the future CAP and to promote a collective discussion on how to make evaluations more usable, useful and reliable for users and practitioners. The first part of the paper analyses the main elements of evaluation during the different rural development programming cycles. A second part is dedicated to an examination of the current programming period (2014–2020) and the implications of the introduction of the Common Monitoring and Evaluation Framework (CMEF) and the evaluation plan. In a third part, we critically discuss the proposals for the next programming period and we offer some concluding reflections and two main open questions. From the analyses carried out, many elements emerge to encourage discussion on the role that evaluation has played and can play and the critical points to face. The experiences in rural development policies have introduced important changes in theoretical and implementation terms. In particular, they helped to build evaluation capacity and enabled the involvement of the civil society. However, it is also clear that the European Commission (EC) designed path has often led to an increase in rigidity and orthodoxy towards common frameworks compliance.

We survey two aspects of mixed-integer nonlinear programming which have attracted less attention (so far) than solution methods, solvers and applications: namely, whether the class of these problems can be solved algorithmically, and, for the subclasses which can, whether they are hard to solve. We start by reviewing the problem of representing a solution, which is linked to the correct abstract computational model to consider. We then cast some traditional logic results in the light of mixed-integer nonlinear programming, and come to the conclusion that it is not a solvable class: instead, its formal sentences belong to two different theories, one of which is decidable while the other is not. Lastly, we give a tutorial on computational complexity and survey some interesting hardness results in nonconvex quadratic and nonlinear programming.

Experiment results indicate that the lighting system has the lower energy consumption and achieve the goal of energy saving and emission reduction using the proposed light dimming algorithm.
