Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis master thesis was carried out at ELFA, one of the largest catalogue distributors of electronics in northern Europe. ELFA offers a wide selection of products such as measuring instruments, fuses and screwdrivers.
The master thesis handles the possibilities of an increase in the internal flow of products. The background to this problem is ELFA’s acquisition of two new companies, which brought the product range in the warehouse from 55 000 to 80 000 products. This increase brought a bigger flow through all the functions of the company. To be able to keep the expense at today’s level, an increase in capacity was wished for, without any increase in workforce, which resulted in that the efficiency had to increase. While mapping the flow, the function for unpacking and registering of the goods was discovered to be the bottleneck of the flow and therefore focus was set on this part for a deeper mapping. The goods deliveries to ELFA are uneven, not only between days but also during the hours of the day. This causes problem when there during some periods are overcapacity and during other are there not enough capacity to be able to keep the goals that are set. Making better use of the available capacity in the unpacking function is thus necessary. It is therefore important to even out the flow.
The analysis of the bottleneck resulted in a couple of proposals for improvement. These include higher demands on suppliers and proposals for a better use of the capacity in the bottleneck. The higher demands on suppliers mainly address their packing and marking of their products. To that comes demands on suppliers to deliver in a smaller delivery window and more accurate deliveries in time. The suggestions for even out the flow mainly consist of making the selection process of products with shortage better to be able to make a separate buffer for these products. These would then be taken care of before the products without a shortage. The other buffer, with products without a shortage, would fill the purpose of even out the flow. In addition, other smaller proposals have also been presented in the purpose of increasing the capacity. If the proposals that have been presented are carried out in full, the writers believe that a significant increase in the capacity is possible and will solve the problems that today limits ELFA in their work.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis was performed in a production company with the aim of calculating the manufacturing capacity of a product flow to see if they can manage to produce according to a large forecast demand and according to customer requirements. The work also involved identifying bottlenecks in the process flow and propose different flow optimizations. To attain a good picture of the production the project began with observations in the workshop and then an interview with the company CEO was conducted in order to get a better understanding of the problem. Appropriate methods and tools were chosen to achieve the goals. The used data consisted of primary data such as interviews, observations and data information from the company. Secondary data consisted of literature studies and the data tool Microsoft vision was carried out to map and simulate the flow. The results of the calculations showed that the current production system can produce according to the customer requirements and demand. The takt time turned out to be less than the cycle time for each process. When identifying the bottleneck, it was found that the bottleneck is the first station in the process, which is the cutting machine. Suggestions on flow optimizations were that the company should manufacture according to batch sizes instead of order sizes. A proposal on an improvement on the process flow was made so to increase the flow efficiency. The proposal means that the business needs to invest in two new machines, which will result in an increase of 80% in their output. Our recommendations for continued work are to carry out a deeper analysis on developing the cycle times for the various processing processes by taking times for each process and seeing how long it takes to produce. We also see a need to make a cost estimation analysis when it comes to acquiring new equipment which will be able to help decide if the investments are profitable for the company.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleObstacles within production flows at manufacturing companies can occur. These obstacles may occur due to lack of communication, problems with the production planning department or some other leading function within the company, alternatively due to varying capacity of different operations in the production flow. Because of these problems, the purpose of this thesis is to investigate and identify possible organizational challenges within the production flow of a manufacturing company. The objective with this analysis is to enlighten problems in a methodical and structured way. In order to identify the organizational challenges, the production flow through a specific process at a case company is being analyzed, a curing process. A literature review introducing Lean Production, as well as eight semi-structured interviews, was the beginning of the methodology. To answer the purpose of the thesis, a workshop with 14 participants from the company was held, and the interview answers formed the base for the workshop. Results of the study shows that the production flow has a few areas that are in need of some improvements. Today, the company is lacking a clear communication of needs between some processes before and after the curing process. The results of this is an uneven product flow and the need for clearer, short term planning within the production flow. Results of the study will be implemented in the working method at the case company, with the purpose to reduce or eliminate the identified challenges. Outcomes of this thesis are methods and models within Lean Production that could assist the case company in addressing existing challenges as well as identifying future challenges. In order to ensure that the suggested method is applicable by other manufacturing companies, further research of more companies is needed.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe company that this project is practiced at, belongs in the printing industry and is based in västra götalandsregionen. The company was founded in 1908 and is represented in 20 countries in four continents. The corporate group has around 600 employees, and the most important markets are China, Singapore, Sweden, Great britain, United states and Germany. Industries where the biggest customers are active in are Industrial and Health Care & Life Science, Fashion & Lifestyle, Electronics and Automotive. The company is a global supplier and offers integrated solutions within supply chain management, where the company sees a big opportunity for market growth, and big potentials in for example Print & packaging. This projects main focus is to use value stream mapping as a lean tool, and see how it can apply to the printing industry to visualize a product flow. The mission is to identify bottlenecks in the chosen parts of the production and identify value and non-value adding activities. The research questions to this project was created based on the face that the company has decided to move into a new production facility and that they knew that it existed waste in the production. The purpose from the company's side with this project was to raise awareness to waste and learn from this project to minimize or if possible eliminate identified waste in the new facility. The result of this project was identified bottleneck in the chosen area of the production, station hiss and kitting. Reason to why the bottleneck occurred in the station is also analyzed and discussed in a theoretical way, supported by scientific literature. Two types of suggestions are also recommended as a result of the conclusion of this work. One very important claim of this thesis work, is that only one fraction of the total product flow are visualized in this report, this mean that to visualize the whole product flow further research, time and mapping has to be done. Regarding the result of this paper, the result may not in the biggest probability represent how other companies in the same industry would have their result after embracing this thesis and its logic, to implement these within their own.
