Quantitatively, we investigate the allocative and welfare effects of secondary markets for cars. An important source of gains from trade in these markets is the heterogeneity in the willingness to pay for higher-quality (newer) goods, but transaction costs are an impediment to instantaneous trade. Calibration of the model successfully matches several aggregate features of the US and French used-car markets. Counterfactual analyses show that transaction costs have a large effect on volume of trade, allocations, and the primary market. Aggregate effects on consumer surplus and welfare are relatively small, but the effect on lower-valuation households can be large. (JEL D23, L62, L81)

In this paper, postcoded data are used to develop spatial interaction models for the registration of individuals with different health centres. With use of a cell-based representation of urban space, indices of accessibility to and market areas for such services are devised. The empirical work relates to a study area in the City of Bristol, and reveals patterns of use of general practitioners at a level of detail not previously available. Some implications for locational planning in the primary health-care sector are also considered.

With the unprecedented growth of the shipping transportation demand, substantial vessels have been built and delivered to the market. This has led to oversupply after the financial crisis in 2008 because of the abrupt decrease in transportation demand. Notwithstanding the importance of shipping market studies in the investment decision-making, there are relatively few empirical studies modelling the impacts on the structural changes of the fleet supply variables. By considering new orders, current fleet size, and demolitions in ship capacity supply, this study develops a systematic model in both bulker and container markets. The three-stage least squares method is employed to estimate the model to avoid endogenous issues. The primary finding suggests the significant impact of market, cost, and operational factors on fleet capacity supply. It also reveals the relatively rational activities in ordering new vessels and cautious in demolition decisions in the container market because of the large capital investment required. These are relevant to investment and demolition decisions in both the bulker and container markets.

The aim of this paper is to offer a comprehensive review of Initial Public Offering literature on the pricing and interactions that occur in the IPO primary market. Among the multitude of variables that might affect the way shares are priced and sold in new offerings, the role of previous relationships between issuing firms, investment banks, and institutional investors, i.e. key participants in the listing process, is the object of analysis in the present paper. Existing mixed evidence suggests that repeated interactions among the major players could influence the IPO results in two ways: either by reducing asymmetric information problems or by determining opportunistic behaviours which can be seen in well-known secondary market price anomalies. The originality of the paper lies in the fact that it is the first to provide a review of literature on IPO primary market dynamics, thereby highlighting the way in which relationships between key parties of an IPO shape the entire pricing process. Moreover, this study points out the importance of shifting attention to this market in order to better understand IPO pricing dynamics.

This research aimed at assessing the market chain of banana, avocado and mango fruits in Bench Maji zone. Both primary and secondary data were collected from 2 purposively selected fruits producing districts namely North Bench and South Bench districts. Primary data were collected through semi-structured questionnaire and focus group discussion. A total of 150 households were selected by using systematic random sampling technique. In addition, 40 traders were selected by using simple random sampling technique. Market structure – conduct – performance analysis model was used to assess the performance of the fruits market. The result revealed that the participants in the fruits market were identified as primary actors and secondary actors. Primary actors in the fruits market chain were producers, brokers/ agents, farmer traders, collectors, and wholesalers. Whereas, local tax authority, local police, transporters, and district Trade and Industry office were identified as secondary actors. Fruits market in the area was characterized by non-competitive nature with concentration ratio ranging from 42 to 91.10% indicating the existence of oligopoly market structure. Entrance and exit in the fruits market was blocked by licensing and access to channel. A channel that links producers to local wholesalers through brokers was more efficient in terms of large volumes of sales. However, performance of the fruits market was affected by seasonality, the existence of few big traders, limited access to information, absence of organized market center and brokers’ interference. Therefore, attention has to be given to alleviate the problems so as to improve the performance of the fruits market.

The study was designed to analyze beef cattle marketing channel choice under transaction costs. Multistage sampling technique was used to acquire primary data. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Multinomial Logit Model. The findings verified that most of the respondents (49%) were selling at the village markets, followed by farm gate and secondary market with 28% and 23%, respectively. The model results revealed that the probability of selling at farm gate and village market versus selling at secondary market increased with season sales, indicating level of market uncertainty. The results affirmed the probability of selling at village market versus selling at secondary market outlet increased with knowledge of buyer and decreased with trust in buyers. Other significant predictors were volume of beef cattle supplied, farmers' experience, and education level. Thus, policies aimed at improving the smallholder farmers’ access to cattle marketing channels should be informed by these factors. Int. J. Agril. Res. Innov. Tech. 11(1): 37-48, June 2021

This theoretical paper investigates a multi-market Cournot model where a particular firm may process its waste from the primary market to sell them as co-products on a secondary market. Unlike the usual models found in the jointness in production literature based on costs and economies of scope, our model introduces the technical relationship between both outputs as a physical output constraint. We show the conditions under which a co-producing strategy is optimal for the firm. We find that an optimal share of waste processing depends on the structural conditions of the two markets.

With the increasing number of seller stalls in the Landungsari market, the parking lot in the Landungsari market has decreased so that it demands the possibility of illegal parking occurs in some areas of the market. The research objective was to determine the characteristics of parking, parking feasibility, and parking solutions. The data used are primary data and secondary data. The results obtained in this study are the number of parking spaces is still less than the number of parking vehicles, namely for two-wheeled parking lots, the parking needs exceed the normal capacity, while the average motorbike parking space unit is 129 parking spaces and the average The car park space unit is 11 parking spaces, so with this condition, it is deemed inappropriate parking facilities and additional parking lots to increase the parking capacity of vehicles, especially for two-wheeled vehicles

The fluctuations in stock markets are believed to be influenced by changes in macroeconomic variables. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effect of macroeconomic variables on and their relation to market risk premium in Canada, Sweden and Germany in the years 1992 – 2007. Method Multiple Regression Analysis, Ordinary Least squares (OLS) Result Forecasted Growth in real GDP is the only macroeconomic variable which has significant relation with market risk premium. The effect of money supply was found to be insignificant. Net lending and net borrowing had significant negative effect on market risk premium in Canada, whereas in Germany and Sweden the relationship was not significant.

Significant efforts have been undertaken in medicine to identify hospital and primary care service areas (eg, the Dartmouth Atlas of Health Care) using patient origin information. Similar research in dentistry is nonexistent. The goal of this dissertation was to develop and refine methods of defining dentist service areas (DSAs) using dental insurance claims. These service areas were then used as spatial units of analysis in studies that examined relationships between utilization of oral health services, dentist workforce supply, and service area characteristics. Enrollment and claims data were obtained from the Iowa Medicaid program for children and adolescents ages 3-18 years during calendar years 2008 through 2010. The first study described rates of treatment by orthodontists in children ages 6-18 years. Orthodontic DSAs were identified by small area analysis in order to examine regional variability in utilization. The overall rate of utilization was approximately 3%; 19 DSAs were delineated. Interestingly, children living in small towns and rural areas were significantly more likely to have received orthodontic services than those living in metropolitan and micropolitan areas. The second study identified 113 DSAs using claims submitted by primary care dentists (ie, general and pediatric dentists). Characteristics of these primary care DSAs were then compared with counties. Localization of care was used as a measure of how well each region approximated a dental market area. Approximately 59% of care received by Medicaid-enrolled children took place within their assigned service area versus 52% of care within their county of residence. Hierarchical logistic regression was used in the final study to examine the influence of spatial accessibility and the importance of place on the receipt of preventive dental visits among Medicaid-enrolled children. Children living in urban areas were more likely to have received a visit than those living in more rural areas. Spatial accessibility assessed using measures of dentist workforce supply and travel cost did not appear to be a major barrier to care in this population. More studies are needed to explore the importance of spatial accessibility and other geographic barriers on access to oral health services. The methods used in this dissertation to identify service areas can be applied to other populations and offer an appropriate method for examining revealed patient preferences for oral health care.

Marketing research is an important part of marketing, it delivers information which can be used to support decision making, for creation of plans and strategies, and also for their subsequent evaluation. Monitoring the current market, competitors and consumer behaviour, marketing research creates a competitive advantage, increases the level of certainty and reduces the level of risk to the business. It is essential that the marketing research is conducted in a professional manner. The dissertation work of Libuše Laschoberová provides readers with one document which analyses marketing research in a complex way -- it comprises of detailed information about this market and its environment in context, basic theory, brief description of historical development, selective important data, international comparison, up-to-date trends, prediction, data and opinions of marketing research agencies and experts in this field. There are also practical examples which illustrate some theoretical findings. It is focused on analysis of the contemporary state of this branch, prediction of future development and international comparison. In a practical business environment this would help to gain a deeper understanding of the market research process via the collective and structured information contained in this dissertation. The analysis was conducted independently and objectively. From a practical point of view it is an especially important section which describes the possible future trends in the market. It enables the business to adapt to these trends, create appropriate strategies and therefore prepare the firm for likely future developments. The essential part of this dissertation is based around two separate research projects which resulted in new, previously unknown data. The obtained information confirmed the assumed hypothesis and brought experts' opinions on selected issues. It can be concluded that: 1) Czech firms change their point of view on marketing research -- they are beginning to understand its benefits and use them to their own advantage. 2) Clients' requirements for quality and professionalism of marketing research are increasing. 3) The percentage of international marketing research is growing, whereas the number of projects on national level is in decline.

This thesis analyzes market risk factors in commodity and currency markets. It focuses on the impact of extreme events on the prices of financial products traded in these markets, and on the overall market risk faced by the investors. The first chapter develops a simple two-factor jump-diffusion model for valuation of contingent claims on commodities in order to investigate the pricing implications of shocks that are exogenous to this market. The second chapter analyzes the nature and pricing implications of the abrupt changes in exchange rates, as well as the ability of these changes to explain the shapes of option-implied volatility "smiles". Finally, the third chapter employs the notion that key results of the univariate extreme value theory can be applied separately to the principal components of ARMA-GARCH residuals of a multivariate return series. The proposed approach yields more precise Value at Risk forecasts than conventional multivariate methods, while maintaining the same efficiency.

AbstractThe purpose of this chapter is to carry out a comparative analysis of labour markets in Europe and Latin America from the perspective of segmentation in order to explain the processes of social inequality that arise in the workplace, in light of recent trends in global socio-economic changes. The chapter proposes two main objectives. The first is to perform a comparative descriptive analysis of the main features of labour markets among 60 European and Latin American countries. The second objective is to propose a model of comparative analysis of labour inequality from the theoretical perspective of the segmentation of the labour market and structural heterogeneity. We will focus our analysis by selecting two countries, Spain and Argentina, which both underwent a late development of capitalism. The following general hypothesis is formulated: Spain and Argentina, having clearly differentiated features in economic structure, level of development, institutional frameworks and socio-historical processes, show common dynamics in the structuring of the capitalist labour market between a primary and secondary segment. Using equivalent databases on the workforce a typology of segmentation of employment is constructed that show, in addition to the specificities of each country, the similarities in the structuring of the labour market.

AbstractBrussels’ urban and suburban landscape has changed considerably since the 1980s. The consolidation of socioeconomic fractures inside the city, a reinforcement of long-lasting disparities between the city and its prosperous hinterland, as well as the increasing diversification of migration flows—both high- and low-skilled—contributed to these disparities. Recent evolutions of these patterns, however, have not been investigated yet and therefore remain unknown. Besides, the extent to which segregation is primarily related to economic inequalities and to migration flows—or a combination/interaction between the two—so far has not been studied. This chapter offers a detailed overview of the socio-spatial disparities in the Brussels Functional Urban Area. Our analyses relied on fine-grained spatial data, at the level of statistical sections and of individualised neighbourhoods built around 100 m x 100 m grids. We analysed socioeconomic segregation measures and patterns, as well as their evolution between 2001 and 2011. Socioeconomic groups were defined based on individuals’ position with respect to national income deciles. In line with previous research, our results show very marked patterns of socioeconomic segregation in and around Brussels operating both at a larger regional scale and at the local level.

This chapter establishes a general framework for conducting market analysis for all types of real estate. The subsequent chapters show how, with appropriate modifications, this general framework applies to specific real estate product types. The following chapters also include examples of the general approach introduced here. Four general steps must be included in all real estate market analysis. This chapter will progress through each of the four steps. First, a trade area, also known as a market area, must be established from which to draw the data for the real estate market analysis. Explanation is provided on how to delineate a trade area for the project, including how large the trade area is and the geographic delineation of its boundaries. Second, to evaluate the competitive position of the project, competing supply is estimated. Competing supply includes both current and projected supply within the trade area derived in the first step. To identify competitive projects, the market analyst must also determine what segment the real estate project is to compete in. Third, demand must be measured. Demand estimation includes the assembly and use of projections of economic, geographic, and social indicators that together influence the demand for a specific real estate project. Occasionally, data readily available from commercial data vendors are inadequate for specific types of real estate projects. In these circumstances, demand is estimated using primary research, including surveys and focus groups, as well as assembly of primary data. The fourth step is compiling the report and presenting the analysis to client. The report must reconcile the results of the foregoing three steps with the goals and needs of the client. The client may be an investor, a developer, a redevelopment agency, and so on. The objectives of the client might influence how the fundamental first three steps are interpreted. The market analysis report generally concludes with recommendations, as well as a description of the overall project within the wide context of the economic, geographic, and social forces that are shaping the urban built environment. The analyst draws conclusions, including projecting absorption rates and pricing recommendations.

The key concepts, proceeding top-down, for market analysis for the hospitality industry are market segmentation, demand, and supply. Location or trade area comes into the analysis as an umbrella over these three concepts. Market niche and segmentation, demand, and supply are primary determinants to establishing the criteria for locating hospitality facilities. Whenever there have been sufficient numbers of travelers in search of food and shelter, some form of hostelry industry has arisen.1 The Code of Hammurabi (1800 B.C.E) referred to innkeeping (Winfree 1996). In the western countries, as the Romans established an extensive roadway system, taverns and inns followed at strategically spaced locations. The Roman roads were used for military travel, trade and commerce, and pilgrimage and tourism. These are the primary reasons we use roads today. The early inns were largely run by religious orders. However, in Europe, as commerce grew in the fifteenth century, lodging as a commercial activity began to replace innkeeping as a charitable activity. In the American colonial period during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, inns and taverns were an important part of commerce and cultural exchange. These facilities were designed after the inns and taverns of England, which were closely integrated into their communities. Inns and taverns did not intrude or disrupt the neighborhood; instead, they were thought of as being an integral part of the culture and activities of the neighborhood. Architecturally, early inns and taverns conformed to the look and feel of the surrounding neighborhood environment. Survivors of these early inns are the contemporary bed-and-breakfasts (B&Bs). The term hotel arose early in the nineteenth century and was used to distinguish a greater level of commercial activity than an inn. Hotels offered food, drink, retail shopping, and lodging. Hotels were also more intrusive in their neighborhoods. Instead of less than 10 rooms that typified many inns of the era, early hotels contained as many as 200 rooms, and rose to 6 floors in height. Many nineteenth-century hotels were the tallest buildings in town. Thus, the hospitality industry began its first cautious attempts at market segmentation and diversification. Inns remained, but hotels offered an alternative experience via amenity differentiation.

This chapter investigates the relationship between stock pricing and behaviour of the stock market on one hand and micro and macroeconomic fundamentals in the Nigerian economy on the other from 1980-2009 using both primary and secondary data. Results from the primary survey indicate that the key drivers of share prices were neither broad macroeconomic indicators nor key indicators of the health of the firm. Prices were clearly shown to be much above levels that could have been determined by such indicators as posted profits of firms, amounts paid out as dividend and its regularity. Secondary data analysis equally show that the relationship between actual levels of the all share price index for the period of our analysis and during the financial crisis were not driven by “expected” variables. While its fundamental values are driven by monetary and relative price variables, actual values are driven by external sector variables and prices.

Wavelet methodology is employed to investigate the statistical relationship between three well-accepted measures of uncertainty and both market and sector returns. Our primary goal is to determine whether uncertainty is sector specific. Although there are periods when the market works effectively as an oracle capturing uncertainty, we also find sector specific uncertainty. The wavelet equivalent of correlation, coherence, is used to determine the presence of sector specific uncertainty. We find that allowing localized information in the time frequency domain is critical for separating out sector specific uncertainty from market uncertainty.

With perhaps the exception of building a new town, mixed-use (MXD) development requires the most complex real estate market analysis. As with the structural organization of the preceding chapters on real estate products in this book, this chapter will begin with a background of the real estate product type. A background of MXDs is necessary to understand those developments that are already in place across the North American landscape. Some MXDs have been successful and others have been dismal failures. A goal of this chapter is to describe and explain the instruments hypothesized to make an MXD successful. Some MXDs are approaching their functional age of obsolescence—25 or 50 years old. They may require new real estate market analysis to guide their redevelopment and that redevelopment must be executed in the context of how they originated. The background coverage, contemporary notions of trade areas, demand, supply, and report, for MXDs are presented. What Is a Mixed-Use Development? To be defined as an MXD, the real estate project must have three components (Schwanke 1987): . . . Three or more significant revenue-producing uses (such as retail, office, residential, hotel, and/or entertainment/cultural/recreation), which in well-planned projects are mutually supporting Significant physical and functional integration of project components (and thus a relatively close-knit and intensive use of land), including uninterrupted pedestrian connections Development in conformance with a coherent plan, which frequently stipulates the type and scale of uses, permitted densities, and related items. . . . Each of the above concepts is discussed below. Three or More Significant Revenue-Producing Uses Many real estate projects have multiple uses. However, MXDs as denned and discussed here must have at least three major revenue-producing uses. These uses should be nontrivial. In other words, if retail space is one of the mixed uses, then that retail space should have a trade area beyond the mere project site. In most contemporary mixed-use projects, retail, office, residential, and/or hotel facilities are the primary revenue-producing uses. Other revenue-producing uses of MXDs might include sports arenas and convention centers, performing arts facilities, and museums.

A decision taken on the primary market of real estate in parallel with the decision to purchase a dwelling, it is often the purchase of a parking space. As part of this work there were presented forms of providing space for parking, mostly encountered in practice. In the following, there were carried out the characterization of the primary market of parking spaces on the example of Krakow. There was made an attempt to indicate the potential attributes of price-setting for the valuation of the unit value of the discussed objects. Studies have shown that the price of parking spaces are formed in a different way than the market for residential and largely depend on individual factors, dependent on the sales policy developers. There were also indicated the difficulties that meets a real estate appraiser, whose task is to measure the market value of the parking space. The analysis also included the resolutions of existing planning documents in shaping the requirements for the number of parking spaces for multi-family residential areas in Krakow. Overview of planning documents from the Krakow, points to trends in the rules of applicable local spatial management plans in relation to the required number of parking spaces for newly established housing investment. At the same time in most parts of the city there is no planning guidelines regarding the subject matter.

Abstract This paper reports the development of HERON (Holistic Energy Resource Optimization Network), a newly-developed RAVEN (Risk Analysis Virtual ENvironment) plugin for grid and capacity optimization, to technoeconomic analysis in a deregulated market. A short description of the HERON plugin is provided, and the release process is described. HERON as a plugin enables RAVEN to perform stochastic technoeconomic analysis of grid-energy systems in a generic approach. The primary function of HERON is to generate the complex RAVEN workflows necessary to optimize component capacities under stochastic systems. HERON is capable of analyzing systems with complex components transferring a variety of commodities, including production components and varied markets. HERON is capable of optimizing high-resolution dispatch for such systems and guiding stochastic optimization algorithms in RAVEN for finding optimal component capacities. In particular, this document demonstrates the application of HERON to systems with deregulated markets. A system including a hyrdogen market, an electricity market, hydrogen storage, a hydrogen producer, and a nuclear power plant is considered. Stochastic histories for electricity prices at the electricity market are employed to perform stochastic analysis for ideal sizing of the hydrogen production facility and hydrogen storage unit. The impact of hydrogen market price and volatility of electricity price are also shown.

Housing Finance system has provided funds to households and organizations for buying their homes and premises. There are different type of housing finance systems which are applied by different countries. Housing finance systems can be more efficient, if private sector and public sector work together and harmoniously. Housing Finance system has made considerable progress in Turkey in the last 20 years. Before housing finance system was developed in Turkey, people could have bought houses by combining their retirement allowances and savings. Another method for financing their house, people could have borrowed from relatives or close friends along with their own savings. The Mass Housing Law (Law No: 2985) entered into force in 1984.The main target of the law, to find a solution of the housing problem in Turkey. Law also determines the tasks of the Housing Development Administration (TOKİ). After 2000’s Turkish Banks began to extend long term housing loans, but there was not mortgage system. Due to inadequate saving and income levels, it was not easy to use banking finance system for the low and middle income groups. In 2007, new legal regulations come into force, which is called Mortgage Law, for improving legal framework for borrowers and lenders in the primary markets and also made regulations for integrating primary mortgage market to the capital markets. In our paper, the finance methods and improvements in the housing finance in Turkey have been analyzed evaluating legal regulations and also the methods which is used by banks and other related institutions.

The three fossil fuels, coal, oil and natural gas, are the major and depletable energy resources of the world. By end of the twentieth century, approximately 85% of the total primary energy consumed globally came from the three fossil fuels. In the last two years or so oil prices have almost doubled, whereas, price of natural gas has also increased at a faster rate. Indications and predictions are that these prices will stay for years to come because of imbalance in supply and demand and political instability in the Middle East and Africa regions. In such a dynamic energy market, companies dealing with energy resources, energy related equipment suppliers and service providers will face a stiffer competition. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the global energy market emphasizing the following key issues: the status of proven fossil fuels reserves which are recoverable with the today’s technology; trends of production and consumption of major fuels; trends of electric power generation and industrial gas turbine market for power generation; and emissions related issues. A brief discussion on gas monetization and IGCC (Integrated Gasification and Combined Cycle) technology is also included. In addition to presenting an in-depth analysis of the energy related data for the last 2–3 decades, projections are provided for the next two decades (until 2025). The presented data will be useful in identifying world’s areas and countries where potentials for energy related businesses are expected to grow in the coming years. The presented study is a timely topic of discussion in presence of a highly volatile energy market and companion to the theme of the Turbo Expo 2006 “The Global Market and Cooperative Ventures”.

The increasing demand for primary energy leads to a growing market of natural gas and the associated market for liquefied natural gas (LNG) increases, too. The liquefaction of natural gas is an energy- and cost-intensive process. After exploration, natural gas, is pretreated and cooled to the liquefaction temperature of around −160°C. In this paper, a novel concept for the integration of the liquefaction of natural gas into an air separation process is introduced. The system is evaluated from the energetic and exergetic points of view. Additionally, an advanced exergy analysis is conducted. The analysis of the concepts shows the effect of important parameters regarding the maximum amount of liquefiable of natural gas and the total power consumption. Comparing the different cases, the amount of LNG production could be increased by two thirds, while the power consumption is doubled. The results of the exergy analysis show, that the introduction of the liquefaction of natural gas has a positive effect on the exergetic efficiency of a convetional air separation unit, which increases from 38% to 49%.

Hybridization of Back cross is one method to get varieties that are resistant to downy mildew. The purpose of this study was to obtain information on inheritance characteristics of downy mildew resistance. This research was conducted at the experiment center of Agro-Technology Study Program of Agriculture Faculty, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Research of Assessment of resistance to Downy Mildew used a randomized block design with 18 treatments (P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1P1 and BC1P2 in three sets of crosses, namely LGL x Mdr-3, T12 x Mdr-1 and E02 x Mdr-2) and three replications so there were 54 experimental units. Identification of polymorphic RAPD markers for endurance to downy mildew through Bulk Segregant Analysis (BSA) was done by amplifying the DNA in the resistant pool and susceptible pool. The random primers used were 120 primers from 6 operon groups, namely OPA, OPB, OPC, OPD, OPF and OPG. The results showed that the inheritance pattern of maize genetic resistance to downy mildew followed a segregation pattern of 3:1 with a degree of dominance between -1 and 0, and was controlled by incomplete partially negative dominant gene. OPC-07 was a marker that was linkage close to the resistance to downy mildew with a genetic distance of 1.9 cM.

The convergence of a favorable macroeconomic environment and high prices of primary commodities between 2000 and 2011 contributed to the best performance of agriculture in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) since the 1980s, with steady growth of total factor productivity (TFP) and output per worker and a reduction in the use of input per worker. The end of the upward phase of the commodity cycle in 2011 together with less favorable external markets and a deterioration of the policy environment in several countries, motivates us to revisit the situation of agriculture in LAC in recent years to analyze how these changes have affected its performance. This study applies a framework that uses index numbers together with data envelopment analysis (DEA) to estimate levels of productivity and efficiency, incorporating technical change together with technical (TE) and environmental efficiency (EE) into the decomposition of TFP. The EE index adjusts the TFP measure for pollution, treating GHG emissions as a by-product of the desired crop or livestock outputs. TFP and efficiency of crop and livestock sub-sectors was calculated for 24 LAC countries from 2000 to 2016. Our results show that the period of fast agricultural growth in LAC, driven by technical change and resource reallocation, transformed agriculture in the region leaving it in a better position to cope with the more unfavorable regional macroeconomic environment and the less dynamic global markets observed after 2011.

Crispin, Darla. Artistic Research as a Process of Unfolding. Norges Musikkhøgskole, August 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.22501/nmh-ar.503395.

Der volle Inhalt der Quelle
Annotation:
As artistic research work in various disciplines and national contexts continues to develop, the diversity of approaches to the field becomes ever more apparent. This is to be welcomed, because it keeps alive ideas of plurality and complexity at a particular time in history when the gross oversimplifications and obfuscations of political discourses are compromising the nature of language itself, leading to what several commentators have already called ‘a post-truth’ world. In this brutal environment where ‘information’ is uncoupled from reality and validated only by how loudly and often it is voiced, the artist researcher has a responsibility that goes beyond the confines of our discipline to articulate the truth-content of his or her artistic practice. To do this, they must embrace daring and risk-taking, finding ways of communicating that flow against the current norms. In artistic research, the empathic communication of information and experience – and not merely the ‘verbally empathic’ – is a sign of research transferability, a marker for research content. But this, in some circles, is still a heretical point of view. Research, in its more traditional manifestations mistrusts empathy and individually-incarnated human experience; the researcher, although a sentient being in the world, is expected to behave dispassionately in their professional discourse, and with a distrust for insights that come primarily from instinct. For the construction of empathic systems in which to study and research, our structures still need to change. So, we need to work toward a new world (one that is still not our idea), a world that is symptomatic of what we might like artistic research to be. Risk is one of the elements that helps us to make the conceptual twist that turns subjective, reflexive experience into transpersonal, empathic communication and/or scientifically-viable modes of exchange. It gives us something to work with in engaging with debates because it means that something is at stake. To propose a space where such risks may be taken, I shall revisit Gillian Rose’s metaphor of ‘the fold’ that I analysed in the first Symposium presented by the Arne Nordheim Centre for Artistic Research (NordART) at the Norwegian Academy of Music in November 2015. I shall deepen the exploration of the process of ‘unfolding’, elaborating on my belief in its appropriateness for artistic research work; I shall further suggest that Rose’s metaphor provides a way to bridge some of the gaps of understanding that have already developed between those undertaking artistic research and those working in the more established music disciplines.
