Kernel functions play an important role in interior point methods (IPMs) for solving linear optimization (LO) problems to define a new search direction. In this paper, we consider primal-dual algorithms for solving Semidefinite Optimization (SDO) problems based on a new class of kernel functions defined on the positive definite cone [Formula: see text]. Using some appealing and mild conditions of the new class, we prove with simple analysis that the new class-based large-update primal-dual IPMs enjoy an [Formula: see text] iteration bound to solve SDO problems with special choice of the parameters of the new class.

Various kinds of nonlinear scalarization functions play important roles in vector optimization. Among them, the one commonly known as the Gerstewitz function is good at scalarizing. In linear normed spaces, the globally Lipschitz property of such function is deduced via primal and dual spaces approaches, respectively. The equivalence of both expressions for globally Lipschitz constants obtained by primal and dual spaces approaches is established. In particular, when the ordering cone is polyhedral, the expression for calculating Lipschitz constant is given. As direct applications of the Lipschitz property, several sufficient conditions for Hölder continuity of both single-valued and set-valued solution mappings to parametric vector equilibrium problems are obtained using the nonlinear scalarization approach.

This paper makes the assertion that despite the significant influence of American neo-pentecostalism in shaping prosperity theology in the charismatic churches in Ghana, it is crucial to note that the primal aspirations of prosperity also continue to play a significant role. Second, the thriving prosperity teaching in the charismatic ministries is largely due to the fact that the charismatics have tapped into fertile ground already nurtured by the traditional concept of prosperity, which is to be understood in terms of wealth, longevity and fertility or procreativity. In the African cosmology, the belief and pursuit of prosperity is paramount. Africans do not 'honour' or accept suffering or poverty, it is a battle they have always sought to fight, and the belief in the gods is primarily to ensure prosperity and well-being. Thus the influence of American-type prosperity teaching only served as a catalyst and also reinforced what was already prevailing in the matrix of the primal world-view. The focus of this prayer is centred on material prosperity, fertility (procreation) and long life (health), which cannot come about without the blessing of the divinities. Harmony with the divinities therefore becomes a prerequisite not only for physical and spiritual protection from evil forces but also for the enjoyment of good health, fertility and longevity.

Image registration is a powerful tool in medical image analysis and facilitates the clinical routine in several aspects. There are many well established elastic registration methods, but none of them can so far preserve discontinuities in the displacement field. These discontinuities appear in particular at organ boundaries during the breathing induced organ motion. In this paper, we exploit the fact that motion segmentation could play a guiding role during discontinuity preserving registration. The motion segmentation is embedded in a continuous cut framework guaranteeing convexity for motion segmentation. Furthermore we show that a primal-dual method can be used to estimate a solution to this challenging variational problem. Experimental results are presented for MR images with apparent breathing induced sliding motion of the liver along the abdominal wall.

The 500th anniversary of the arrival of Columbus in the Americas, which coincided with the arrival of the Christian gospel, prompted the issuing of several films in which Christian mission features prominently: The Mission, Black Robe, and At Play in the Fields of the Lord. Rather than stereotyping either missionaries or indigenous peoples, the films offer complex and penetrating analyses that help to raise the level of popular perception and discussion of the missionary enterprise. They highlight the unique role missionaries have played in the interaction of Westerners with primal cultures. While widely criticized, missionaries may be American culture's best foil for exploring cross-cultural encounters.

The kernel functions play an important role in the amelioration of the computational complexity of algorithms. In this paper, we present a primal-dual interior-point algorithm for solving convex quadratic programming based on a new parametric kernel function. The proposed kernel function is not logarithmic and not self-regular. We analysis a large and small-update versions which are based on a new kernel function. We obtain the best known iteration bound for large-update methods, which improves signicantly the so far obtained complexity results. Thisresult is the rst to reach this goal.

At the height of their collaboration in late 1911, Freud had succeeded in persuading Jung of the role of phylogenetic factors in the etiology of neuroses and psychoses. Phylogenetic considerations play an important part in the formulation of Jung's genetic standpoint of psychology with its conception of a desexualized primal libido, which figured prominently in the dispute which ended the relations between Freud and Jung. Freud's unpublished draft of “Overview of the Transference Neuroses” was in part an attempt to counter Jung's revisions of libido theory by using phylogenetic considerations to reaffirm his original conception of a unified sexual libido. Despite the sharp divergence of many aspects of their respective psychologies after the break, a conception of phylogenetic inheritance continued to play an important role in their developing theoretical formulations.

I want to share with you the reasons why Teatro de los Sentidos has been significant to me ever since I became aware of inventing myself and inventing it in my childhood games, imagining forbidden labyrinths in Colombian coffee plantations, until today, at my eighty years of age. It is clear that a lot of primal and parallel knowledge has developed over time in all cultures. Myths, celebrations, imagination, poetry, symbolic powers ... resonate differently, each according to historical circumstances. In the spring and summer of 1906, while visiting the rural village of Gósol in the Spanish Pyrenees, Picasso executed his first woodcut, made two sculptures out of boxwood, and began to focus on the topoi of wood and the forest as avatars of primal matter and of that which lies beyond civilization. In a subsequent series of paintings, he used wooden supports for images that depict male and female heads that look as if they had been chiseled out of wood. Others represent nude figures in forest settings, with explicitly sexual gestures and poses connoting a range of attitudes. These little studied works provide an optic into Picasso’s early exploration of the emergence of sexual identity as an inner psychic state, but one whose signs can be read through the body. Later, responding to the proliferation of cheap, industrially produced materials, including trompe l’oeil woodgrain wallpaper, Picasso began to treat woodgrain as a mere surrogate, one that marks its distance from actual wood through a variety of painterly and mechanical effects. No longer associated with “primitive” authenticity and the primordial forces of the forest, woodgrain now appears as a false sign open to conceptual play and metamorphosis.

Finally, for its numerical tests, some strategies are used and indicate that the algorithm is efficient.

Kipling's stories, often referred to as 'a great chronicle of primal fables' (Green 1971), are very expressive due to the unique style of the author. Among various stylistic devices and expressive means, allusions used in the stories are of great interest from the point of view of analysis of both source and target texts. The point is that almost all the allusions are indirect and are engaged in a unique language play. This technique, obviously, poses difficulties for transferring the text from one language to another.The article is devoted to the investigation of allusions and their interpretations in three of Kipling's "Just So Stories", namely "How the Whale Got His Throat", "How the Leopard Got His Spots" and "The Crab that Played with the Sea".

This article challenges our collective focus on individual leaders such as Donald Trump especially during times of crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic. It argues that such attention distracts us from larger systemic dynamics which are contributing to the severity of the pandemic in the US as well as obfuscating the influence of unelected parties whose interests are served by Trump’s actions. In light of these observations, rather than continuing to feed our romance with leaders, leadership scholars are encouraged to (1) expand their inquiries to interrogate the structural and societal forces which contribute to a situation’s outcomes and keep individuals in place as leaders and (2) pay greater attention to the irrational, primal dimensions at play in the relationship between leaders and those they lead.

This paper explores how the mobile body and, specifically, the face have become a site of observation, calculation, prediction, and action in the process of moving across borders. The paper explores how in the circulatory space of the airport/border, the body's circulatory systems, biological rhythms, and affective expressions have become objects of suspicion—mobile surfaces from which inner thoughts and potentially hostile intentions are scrunitized, read, and given threatening meaning by the newest modes of airport security and surveillance. Examined according to the vectoral modes of historicity and virtual possibility, as well as the internal and external play of intention and feeling, the paper uncovers an increased attention to differential axes of mobility—of past and future, surface and interior. The paper situates these techniques within the preemptive biopolitical securitisation of mobility across borders which, it is argued, has found its referent object in the primal realm of affective capacities.

This article analyzes Gabriele D’Annunzio’s 1898 play La Gioconda as a form of modern tragedy with respect to Friedrich Nietzsche’s duality of the Apollinian and Dionysian, and with particular emphasis on the motif of light as it appears both in the author’s stage directions and in the dialogues. The story of the play revolves around the recurrent Dannunzian theme of the love triangle. A young sculptor of a Nietzschean sensibility struggles with the dilemma between a peaceful family life and the stormy lifestyle of an artist, played out in his relationships with a gentle and caring spouse and his seductive and implacable model, or la nemica. A study of the diverse ways in which the light motif is used and discussed from one act to the next vis-a-vis the Nietzschean duality, while also considering the stylistic contradiction between a bourgeois domestic drama, on the one hand, and a philosophical and lyrical treatise on aesthetic experience, on the other, the article challenges the dichotomy of spouse vs. lover and argues that the artist’s imagination conflates the two figures in formulating the ideal of a modern muse, a new ‘Gioconda’, a timeless figure that synthesizes an ancient primal dynamism, a restrained Renaissance harmony, and a resounding modernity.

This article examines African binarism in Ama Ata Aidoo’s play, The Dilemma of a Ghost. The concept of binarism encompasses the nostalgic predilection for the homeland yet, the preconception of home depends on the way in which colonial hegemony appears. The purpose of this study is, therefore, to shed light on the latent circumstances which project onto this play, the inherent impetus of this binarism. The focus will be on Aidoo’s conceptualization of the African diaspora and how it has affected the cultural aspects of the Africans’ ways of life. To analyze these cultural issues, the methodology of this study utilizes the concept of transculturation. In essence, the concept of transculturation emphasizes a mix of two discrepant cultures. These cultures are different from each other yet similar in their sense of belonging to the homeland. This sense of belonging forges the reconciliation of two opposite ethnic races that belong to the same culture. As such, the study highlights the African diaspora depicted in The Dilemma of a Ghost as the primal cause of this transculturation. Consequently, it explores the African diaspora that resulted from forced migration imposed upon diverse national ethnicities that chose to live together in one place - They mingle with each other in the host country, which exemplifies an utterly different cultural facet. To cope with cultural differences, they co-exist with each other by dint of transculturation.

At the same time on opposite sides of the Iron Curtain, two avant-garde playwrights decided to remake a 2400-year-old tragedy. Heiner Müller (1929-1996) and Tom Stoppard (1937-) are widely regarded as two of the most innovative dramatists of East Germany and Great Britain and respectively. In 1965, Stoppard submitted a script for a spy thriller to Granada TV and Müller published his first play since being banned from the East German Writers’ Association in 1961. Though unbeknownst to each other and writing for drastically different purposes, media, and audiences, they both lit upon Sophocles’ Philoctetes as the appropriate vehicle for their work. Sympathy has been recognized as central to tragedy since Aristotle’s Poetics, and Philoctetes is the ultimate drama of compassion. The story of the wounded Philoctetes is an Ur-scene for pity in the same way that Ajax’s slaughter of the sheep in his madness is a primal scene for indignation, or Orpheus’ descent to the underworld, for grief. In finding their way to Philoctetes, Stoppard and Müller grapple with a fundamental problem of theatrical art.

Ecocriticism can be defined as a pro-environmental perspective that critically examines the production of nature and the politics that underpin its development. It promotes the idea that how nature is treated and nurtured and how she is becoming a part of current environmental discourses will be mirrored in cultural objects. The schoolteacher Lacunle's aversive attitude about paying the cash meant for the possession of the bride in Soyinka's The Lion, and the Jewel is a reflection of how 'nature' is conceptually assimilated within Western thought; in this context, Sidi, the local girl, is the bride whom Lacunle woos. Sidi can also be seen in contrast to the natural world. Imperialist forces always saw the locals as a part of nature — uneducated and unrefined primal savages who were supposed to be civilized by European norms. Sidi, who was always ready to take pride in her originality, found the same act of shouldering the 'European load' undertaken by Lacunle and his persuasions to conform to the behavioural norms of modernity to be a dreadful thing. In short, the Ecocritical perspective on the play is realized in this article at the levels of Ecofeminism, Deep Ecology, and Eco Spiritualism.

In recent years, coral associated viruses could play primal role in protecting coral health, yet their ecological traits are poorly investigated. In this study, the abundance and life cycles (lysogeny and lytic) of viruses associated with contrasted coral health states (healthy and bleached) were studied and compared. In addition, the density of bacteria and Symbiodium were also be determined by epifluorescence microscopy. The results showed that viral abundance increased 1.2 times and bacterial abundance decreased 0.6 times in healthy corals compared to bleached ones. The number of Symbiodinium significantly reduced 5.6 times in bleached corals compared to healthy corals. One of the most important results in this study was the coexistence of the both lysogenic and lytic viruses in healthy coral. The fraction of lysogenic bacteria was 2 times higher in healthy corals than in bleached ones. Healthy corals carried 3.5-fold more viral production than the diseased ones. Overall, the results showed that, in healthy state, corals might be a favorable environment for viral infection, promoting the development of both temperate and virulent phages. This coexistence might be crucial for coral viability through the complex links with their coral-associated bacterial hosts.

The polycrystalline diamonds were synthesized on n-type single crystalline Si wafer by Hot Filament CVD method. The structural properties of the obtained diamond films were checked by X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. The conductivity of n-Si/p-diamond, sandwiched between two electrodes, was measured in the temperature range of 90–300 K in a closed cycle cryostat under vacuum. In the temperature range of (200–300 K), the experimental data of the conductivity were used to obtain the activation energies Ea which comes out to be in the range of 60–228 meV. In the low temperature region i.e., below 200 K, the conductivity increases very slowly with temperature, which indicates that the conduction occurs via Mott variable range hopping in the localized states near Fermi level. The densities of localized states in diamond films were calculated using Mott’s model and were found to be in the range of 9×1013 to 5×1014eV−1cm−3 depending on the diamond’s surface hydrogenation level. The Mott’s model allowed estimating primal parameters like average hopping range and hopping energy. It has been shown that the surface hydrogenation may play a crucial role in tuning transport properties.

Abstract Professor Wariboko has rightly responded to Fire from Heaven in the context of the entire span of my writing from The Secular City to The Future of Faith and has pointed out some persistent themes. The thesis of The Secular City was that God remains present and active in a secularizing world, albeit not always under “religious” auspices. A new generation of thinkers, including Charles Taylor, has now picked up this theme. Fire from Heaven described the “surfacing” of this primal piety in the global Pentecostal wave, and The Future of Faith suggests what the next stage may be. The Pentecostal movement and the resurgence of Islam have made it clear that the “secular” is now only one possible worldview among others. Also, there are a number of different forms of secularism. The emerging global cosmopolis will be multicultural, a world city “where strangers meet.” Using the metaphor of jazz, faith now follows no “score” but improvises within a chord structure, with players responding to each other. In this communication recent evidence from cognitive neuroscience is presented showing that believing is a fundamental brain function. It integrates the perception of information from the environment with personal perspective taking (“what does it mean to me?”) as the basis for predictive coding of action. Observing that another person becomes injured can make one believe that the pain in the injured person is similar to pain that oneself has experienced previously. This first-person perspective has been called empathy and includes primal beliefs about potentially pain eliciting objects and painful events in the sense of “what does it mean to you?”. Furthermore, observing other people to suffer involves the conceptual belief that their condition is aversive and burdensome. Believing in love and peace involves the perspective of “what does it mean to us?”. Contradictory events may cause the sensation of pain and suffering in the afflicted individuals resulting in mutual distrust and eventually disruption of social bonds. In conclusion, beliefs play an important, though long underestimated role in cognitive neuroscience of pain and suffering and more generally for the cultural notions of deities and evil.

PurposeLocation-based games (LBGs) have afforded novel information technology (IT) developments in how people interact with the physical world. Namely, LBGs have spurred a wave of territoriality (i.e. controlling) and exploration (i.e. discovering) of augmented physical space that are driven by different social dynamics related to group formation, social connectivity and altruism. The aim of this study is to investigate this dynamic and how it is further related to the use intensity of location-based IT.Design/methodology/approachThis work presents a structural equation model that connects social dimensions of play to territorial control and exploration, and playing intensity. The model was tested with sychometric data gathered from a global sample of Pokémon GO players (N = 515).FindingsIn the tested sample, players' social self-efficacy and altruism were positively associated with team identification. Team identification, in turn, was positively associated with both territorial control and exploration tendency. Territorial control had a significant relationship with playing intensity; however, exploration tendency did not. This implies territorial control is the stronger predictor of playing intensity.Practical implicationsThe findings suggest that human primal urges to conquer and control geographical territory may surface in the digital reimagination of physical space. LBGs offer opportunities for making use of new forms of play (territorial control and exploration) in motivating locative behaviours.Originality/valueThis research quantifies the relationships between a social predisposition, team identification, territorial control, exploration tendency and playing intensity in the context of Pokémon GO. It contributes new knowledge to the understanding of territorial behaviour (control and exploration) in location-based IT.

Abstract Disruption of Wnt signaling is thought to play a central role in the development of myeloma bone disease. Although Wnt signaling in osteoblasts (OB) is essential for their differentiation and Wnt signaling in OB indirectly regulates osteoclast (OC) development through the regulation of both OPG and RANKL, little is known about the direct role of Wnt signaling in osteoclastogenesis. In this study, we sought to characterize the Wnt signaling pathway and its functional role in OC formation using the macrophage cell line Raw 264.7, which can be induced to differentiate into OC, as well as human primal progenitor osteoclast cells isolated from bone marrow of normal donors and patients with MM. We first analyzed the pattern of Wnt signaling components in these cells by RT-PCR and sequence analysis. High level of expression of Wnt receptors Frizzled (Fz) Fz2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9, and co-receptors LRP5, and LRP6, and transcription factors TCF1, TCF3, and LEF1 was observed in 10 of 10 OC cells from MM patients and 4 of 4 OC from normal donors and Raw264.7. Wnt3a conditioned medium and recombinant Wnt3a induced increased levels of total and un-phosphorylated beta-catenin in all cells. Pretreatment of OC cells with sFRP1 decreased Wnt3a induced increased beta-catenin. Pretreatment with DKK1, a specific inhibitor of the canonical Wnt pathway, blocked Wnt3a induced stabilization of beta-catenin. Additionally, the GSK3beta inhibitor lithium chloride induced stabilization of beta-catenin in OC and Raw264.7 cells in dose-dependent fashion. Wnt-3a induced TCF/LEF transcriptional activity in Raw264.7 cells transfected with TOPflash compared with Raw264.7 transfected with FOPflash, which possess mutant sequence for binding beta-catenin. These results suggest that Wnt signaling functions in primal MM OC cells, as well as OC cell lines. Finally, we sought to determine the biological function of Wnt signaling in OC cells. The results showed that Wnt-3a did not affect the proliferation and survival of OC cells, nor increased formation of TRAP positive cells. Wnt3a did not synergize with RANKL and M-CSF in induction of OC differentiation. Additional biological functional assays are underway to determine the direct role of Wnt signaling on OC. Identification of the role of Wnt signaling in osteoclastogenesis may improve our understanding of the bone lytic process in multiple myeloma.

The paper analyses the book Animation of the Tambourine by Sergey Stratanovskii. The research focuses on the poetic interpretation of the Russian peoples’ myths (Karelian-Finnish, Mari, Mordovian, Udmurt, Chuvash, Mansi , Tatar, Bashkir, Buryat, Chukchee, Nivkhi, Yakut, etc.). Special emphasis is made on the analysis of the poetry which refers to Finno-Ugric legends and myths. The author considers that S. Stratanovskii not only educes the unique character of certain cultures but also reveals universal archetypical structures which moderate surface differences on the primal level. The main conflict of the book is the clash between heathen beliefs and Christian faith which replaced them. Most texts deflect S. Stratanovskii’s ‘basic myth’, i.e. the ‘civilization myth’ about the Teacher’s arrival. Reference to fiction pretexts ( Calevala , A. Blok, K. Zhakov and Y. Rytkheu, etc. ) play an important role in sense making. Text analysis lets the author draw the conclusion of conventionality of artistic time continuum which correlates with past and present as well which means the hic et ubique situation rather than a given period in human history. Animation of the Tambourine raises a most important problem for the present-day Russia, namely the problem of interrelationship between the Russian and indigenous ethnic groups’ cultures. The fact ascending to folklore - fundamental variability of the book - is noted as there are a few copies of Animation of the Tambourine written by the author himself which differ in number of texts and genre composition.

Research in recent years has revealed the rate of premature and avoidable deaths from suicide and drug/alcohol misuse is rising in the United States. These are sometimes referred to as deaths of despair based on evidence that they are concentrated in relatively poor communities with less access to social resources and low labor force participation. The pattern was first noted in middle-aged White men but seems to be gradually spreading to other ethnic groups. As a first step in establishing a psychological response to this public health issue, the present article summarizes two studies that compared psychological variables to demographics as predictors of hopefulness. A number of intriguing findings emerged. Despite concerns about American despair and conflict, U.S. residents proved the most hopeful among residents of eight countries. Low-income Americans are particularly hopeful except for low-income Whites. Positive character traits and primal beliefs about the world generally proved to be better predictors of hope than ethnicity, financial status, or their interaction. A number of relationships were found between psychological variables and community demographics. The findings as a group suggest hopefulness is driven more by psychological variables than by life circumstances. It is suggested that psychologists could play an important role in the study of this topic by implementing programs intended to enhance hopefulness in impoverished populations, and by encouraging an intentional communal focus on the importance of enhancing well-being.

The Word, as the creative principle of life, is a concept found in many cultures, from the Hebraic to the Uitotos (or Murui) of the Colombian Amazon. The author finds parallels between the immersion of Joyce´s Finnegans Wake in the Word as the key to unlocking different but interrelated dimensions of reality, and the cosmo-vision of the Murui. Finnegans Wake presents a panoptic view of practically the whole of life and history in the form of the dream world of a Dublin tavern owner. It deploys a complex use of word play, hidden meanings and mutations of language to depict both the conscious and subconscious perceptions of our primal humanity. Similarly, virtually every word of the Murui myths has multiple meanings and they embody a manual of correct thought and behavior ranging from spirituality to the practicalities of daily life. Their premier shamanic plants, mambe and ambil, derivatives of coca and tobacco, respectively, are the inspiration for the nightly colloquiums in their malocas (longhouses) where the meanings of their myths are teased out by the participants, guided by their medicine man, in a free-ranging conversation that, while it seems to be digressive, adheres, as does Joyce, to the inner logic of the Word. The author ends with some reflections on his own struggles, as a writer to grapple with the Word, which, as it communicates, also mystifies. For the Murui, this urge towards omniscience may have arisen because their survival depended on articulating all of the interrelated nuances of their environment.

When is a widely-known fairy tale more than a story? Poh Sim Plowright recently went to South Thailand and North Malaysia to examine the relevance of the ‘birdwoman’ folk tale to the lives of the villagers1 in those two regions. Here the local people still participate in a ritual dramatization of a story which for them represents a crucial renewal of life in their yearly calendar – a celebration of the roots of feminine magical power which goes back to the ancient historical south-east Asian practice by which a victorious ruler would carry back as booty to his kingdom the wives and dancers of the vanquished. Since most of the members of these royal harems were mediums gifted with special powers of healing and communicating with spirits, they were seen as valuable additions to a ruler's aura of divinity – and consequently to his terrestrial power. More importantly, the theatrical art form known as Manora, which enshrines the ‘birdwoman’ tale, is said to have been founded by two royal female trance mediums, regarded as primal healers and guardians of a life-renewing elixir: thus, each performance also serves as a shamanic and healing ritual. The performances here described by Poh Sim Plowright also have links with drama in China and Japan, and at the end of her article she explores the powerful connection with W. B. Yeats's celebrated ‘birdwoman’ play, At the Hawk's Well, which features a ‘Hawk’ Woman guarding a ‘well of miraculous water’ against male intrusion. Poh Sim Plowright is Director of the Centre for the Study of Noh Drama and Lecturer in Oriental Drama at Royal Holloway College, University of London.

When Hercules in a reprise of the celebrated Empedoclean leap plungesper ignemin pursuit of Cacus (8.256-8), an (incongruous) evocation of the Sicilian philosopher's fiery exit adds a touch of comedy at the heated moment. And from this inferno Virgil moves to Olympus, lowering the tone but raising the temperature as Venus in a domestic comedy seduces the uxorious Vulcan into preparing new armour for Aeneas: now she kindles flames of a different sort in the fire-god (8.388-92, 8.404-6) in a scene marked by witty double entendre that provides a playful contrast with the unfolding drama at Pallanteum. At moments like these, a lighter strain is audible through the epic thunder,Vergilius ludensis hard at work (or play).

ABSTRACT Salmonella contamination of ground beef has been viewed as originating from the surface of carcasses. Recent studies have identified lymph nodes as a potential source of Salmonella contamination because these tissues play an active role in containment of pathogens in the live animal and because some lymph nodes are unavoidably present in manufacturing beef trimmings or primal cuts that may be incorporated into ground beef. A survey was conducted of the microbiological status of lymph nodes from Australian cattle at the time of slaughter to determine the prevalence of microbiological contamination. Sets of lymph nodes (n = 197), consisting of the superficial cervical (prescapular), prepectoral, axillary, presternal, popliteal, ischiatic, subiliac (precrural), coxalis, and iliofemoralis (deep inguinal), were collected from five geographically separated Australian abattoirs over a period of 14 months. Samples were tested for the presence of Salmonella spp. and Shiga toxin–producing Escherichia coli by BAX PCR assay. Aerobic plate count, E. coli, and coliforms were enumerated with a lower limit of detection of 80 CFU per node. The observed prevalence of Salmonella within peripheral lymph nodes was 0.48% (7 of 1,464). Two of the seven lymph nodes in which Salmonella organisms were detected came from the same animal. Grass-fed, grain-fed, and cull dairy cattle were all found to have detectable Salmonella in lymph nodes. All Salmonella detections occurred during cooler months of the year. No Shiga toxin–producing E. coli were detected. Aerobic microorganisms were detected above the limit of quantification in 3.2% of nodes (median count 2.24 log per node), and E. coli was detected in 0.8% of nodes (median count 3.05 log per node). The low prevalence of Salmonella and low concentration of aerobic microorganisms in Salmonella-positive lymph nodes of Australian cattle at the time of slaughter suggest that the likelihood of lymph nodes contributing significantly to the presence of Salmonella in ground beef is low.

AbstractTraditional interpretations of Aristotle’s theory of perception mainly focus on uncovering the underlying mechanisms that are at stake when perceivers are affected by sensible qualities. Investigating the nature of sense perception is one of Aristotle’s main worries and one that he explicitly relates to the question of its causes (e. g. Sens. 436a16–17, 436b9) and its ends (e. g. de An. 434a30 ff.). Therefore I suggest that, in order to fully explain Aristotle’s view of perceptual phenomena, the possibilities, the constraints, and the goals defined by the embodied and situated engagement of perceivers with the external world must be taken into account. Accordingly, in this paper, I provide an affective reading of Aristotle’s theory of perception. I shall ask what, in addition to functioning sense organs and appropriate response mechanisms, the perceiver contributes to perceptual content. Specifically, I propose to shed light on the significance of perceptual experience for the perceiver and I aim to show that, according to Aristotle, one’s biological and personal qualities are perceptually relevant, meaning that they underpin perception, rather than coming into play after perception has occurred and its objects have been discerned. The paper is divided into two parts, respectively dealing with sensory affections and more complex affective phenomena. As regards the domain of primal sense perception, I will focus on smell as a representative example: since Aristotle identifies it as the least developed of human sensory faculties, it will serve as a revealing illustration of how sense perception is informed and qualified by what, drawing on contemporary philosophical terminology, I will call ‘perceptual interests’, viz. the affective sense of what is at stake in the living being’s interaction with the environment. I will then proceed to consider the way more complex affective phenomena underpin perception by examining the case of emotions and that of virtues of character. By showing how perception is affectively inflected and how emotion is rooted in perception’s bodily nature, I aim to sketch out the general lines along which I believe that the Aristotelian theory of perception should be approached.

The structural analog of the small 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-1-azabicyclo[2,2,2]octan-3-one molecule named PRIMA-1Metfor ?p53 reactivation and induction of massive apoptosis? has been shown to inhibit cell growth and induce apoptosis in human tumor cells by restoring the tumor suppressor function of tumor protein p53. In several microRNA (miRNA) profiling studies related to ovarian cancer, different miRNAs associated with PRIMA-1Met have been reported, but miRNAs related to PRIMA-1Met-induced apoptosis remain unclear. This study was designed to explain the potential mechanism of PRIMA-1-induced apoptosis. According to the MTSassay and fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) analysis results, PRIMA-1Met induced a significant decrease in cell viability and an increase in apoptosis in both A2780 and Caov-3 cells, regardless of p53 status. PRIMA-1Met upregulated miRNA-29a in both cell lines. To determine the effect of miRNA-29a on PRIMA-1Met-induced apoptosis, A2780 and Caov-3 cells were transfected with miRNA-29a inhibitor. After treatment with PRIMA-1Met, cell viability increased and apoptosis decreased in the transfected cells. The results of this study suggest that miRNA-29a potentially regulates PRIMA-1Met-induced apoptosis in ovarian cancer cells.

This study was conducted to evaluate the responsiveness of human nonpregnant myometrium to endothelin 1 (ET1) (10(-10) M-10(-6 )M) and KCl (80 mM) in relation to the hormonal profile of the women, who were allocated into three groups: group 1, premenopausal follicular phase, n=14, group 2, premenopausal luteal phase, n=20, and group 3, postmenopausal women, n=12. At a concentration of 10(-6 )M, ET1 in both groups 1 and 2 induced very low ripples of high frequency (group 1: 80+/-14%, n=5, group 2: 314+/-63%, n=11; P<0.05 compared with the pretreatment frequency) which lasted significantly longer in group 2 (29+/-2 min, n=10, P<0.05) than in group 1 (20+/-2 min, n=5), increasing the basal tone (group 1: 57.9+/-6%, n=5, group 2: 64.4+/-4%, n=6), the amplitude of myometrial contractility (group 1: 1.2+/-0.07 g, n=5, group 2: 1.6+/-0.1 g, n=7, P<0.05) and the area under the contractility curve (AUC; group 1: 8.4+/-1.1 gxmin, n=6, group 2: 11.9+/-1.6 g x min, n=11). In group 3, ET1 (10(-6 )M) created a sustained long-lasting contraction (initial phase: 43+/-6 min, n=6) characterized by the complete obliteration of spontaneous contractility with no ripples at all, and increasing significantly (P<0.05) the amplitude of myometrial contractility (2.8+/-0.5 g, n=6), the AUC (24.7+/-3.3 g x min, n=6), as well as the basal tone (183.6+/-21%, n=6) compared with the two premenopausal groups. In all three groups KCl exposure induced an initial rise (mean amplitude value: 1.1 g) followed by a relaxation phase to the primal baseline level (mean duration value: 12 min). Addition of ET1 (10(-6 )M) to KCl (80 mM) induced a similar pattern of contractility to that evoked by ET1 alone which, compared with KCl alone lasted significantly longer (P<0.05) in all three groups (group 1: 20+/-2 min, n=6; group 2: 23+/-2 min, n=6; group 3: 35+/-3 min, n=5). In group 3, the percentage change in basal tone was significantly smaller following KCl than after the combination of KCl plus ET1 (149+/-16%, n=5; P<0.01), indicating a different mechanism of contractility between KCl and ET1. These results demonstrate for the first time differences in myometrial response to ET1 between pre- and postmenopausal women. It is suggested that KCl and ET1 affect uterine contractility through different mechanisms and that ovarian steroids may play a regulatory role in human uterine responsiveness to ET1.

In this paper, an analysis of the semantic structures of the English verb play and the Serbian verb igrati has been carried out according to the principles of the prototype theory as well as an analysis of the lexicographic representation of these structures in Oxford Dictionary of English (in its online version) and Rečnik srpskoga jezika Matice srpske (2011) as leading representatives of the lexicographic practice of the two languages. Since it has been observed that relations among senses of each of the two verbs are not all quite obvious and clear, the aim of the analysis has been to examine mutual semantic-derivational relatedness of these senses and, simultaneously, to answer the question whether semantic structures of these verbs are polysemous and, consequently, whether displaying all senses of each of these verbs within the same dictionary entry is justified. Also, the analysis has aimed at discovering how faithfully and precisely the structure and organization of entries in the two dictionaries reflect the internal organization of the given semantic structures and mutual relatedness of their senses taking into account the results of the analysis. An inventory of senses of the two verbs has been collected on the basis of their entries in the analysed dictionaries. For each sense, its derivational path has been identified including the sense which it has been derived from as well as the mechanism employed in this semantic derivation. This analysis has revealed that there are four motivated semantic networks within the semantic structure of the verb play and three such networks in the semantic structure of the verb igrati. Each of these networks includes senses which are derived from the common basic or prototypical sense directly or indirectly and, therefore, related on the basis of the family resemblance principle. The basic senses of all the networks identified within the structure of each of the verbs are also mutually related due to the fact that they share the same prototype. Hence, the identified networks, in the case of both verbs, form a unified semantic structure, which can be regarded as polysemous. This observation leads to the conclusion that the representation of these structures in the analysed dictionaries within one entry is justified. It has also been observed that the structure and organization of the entry for the verb play in the analysed dictionary of English quite precisely reflect the internal organization of the given polysemous structure since it adequately groups senses according to their semantic-derivational relatedness within the identified motivated networks and clearly emphasizes the basic sense of each network. The faithfulness of this reflection is achieved to a great extent, though not completely. However, the structure and organization of the entry for the verb igrati in the analysed dictionary of Serbian does not match the internal organization of the given polysemous structure.

Borneo Prima tangerine (Citrus reticulata cv Borneo Prima) is an indigenous plant from Tanjung Labu Village, Rantau Pulung District, East Kutai District, East Kalimantan Province. In the cultivation of these plants, there are pathogens that can cause a decrease in crop yields. This study aims to identify the diversity of rhizosphere microbial populations in Borneo Prima tangerine plants. The study was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Pests and Diseases of the Faculty of Agriculture, Mulawarman University Samarinda in February-April 2018. This study was descriptive, using a survey method. The study consisted of two stages, namely (1) soil sampling on Borneo Prima tangerine citrus land in Makroman Village, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan (2) isolation, characterization, identification, gram test, in the Laboratory of Pests and Plant Diseases. The data obtained were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of the study of the isolation of rhizosphere microbes in Borneo Prima tangerine citrus plants obtained 1 family of bacteria namely Azotobacteraceae and 4 fungal genera including Aspergilus, Mucor, Penicillium and Trichoderma. Microbes that belong to the group that benefit the soil ecosystem are Azotobacteraceae because they play a role in fixing (fixation) N2 or as biofertilizers. While the genus Mucor and Penicillium act as decomposers and Trichoderma acts as a controller of pathogens or biological agents and biological pesticides (biopestiside).

<p>In the context of the pull-push debate on the weight that external or internal factors have on the behavior of capital flows, this article aims to empirically assess the extent to which the push factors linked to global liquidity determine the changes in the risk premium of a set of countries of the periphery in the period 1999-2019. We also test for a structural change in the premium risk series in 2003. We find that push factors play a predominant role (compared to pull factors) in explaining country-risk spreads changes in our selected set of peripheral countries and that there was indeed a substantial general reduction in country-risk premia after 2003. The results are in agreement both with the view that cycles in peripheral economies are subordinated to global financial cycles and also that such global conditions substantially improved compared to the 1990s. </p><p><strong> </strong></p><p align="center">PRIMA DE RIESGO PAÍS EN LA PERIFERIA Y EL CICLO FINANCIERO INTERNACIONAL 1999-2019</p><p align="center"><strong>RESUMEN</strong><strong></strong></p><p>Considerando el debate <em>pull-push</em> sobre la influencia de los factores externos o internos en el comportamiento de los flujos de capital, el objetivo de este artículo es analizar empíricamente el grado en que los factores externos vinculados a la liquidez global afectan los cambios en la prima de riesgo de un conjunto de países de la periferia durante el periodo 1999-2019. También examinamos un cambio estructural en la serie de riesgo de primas en 2003. Así, encontramos que los factores externos desempeñan un papel predominante (en comparación con los factores específicos de cada país) en la explicación de los cambios de riesgo país en los países periféricos seleccionados y que, efectivamente, existió una reducción general sustancial en las primas de riesgo país después de 2003. Los resultados están en línea con la visión de que los ciclos en las economías periféricas están subordinados a los ciclos financieros mundiales y, además, que las condiciones externas han mejorado sustancialmente en comparación con la década de 1990.</p>

Husserl rejects the contrast between human life as an irrational factum and reason as an objectifying force that is hostile to life. Hence he moves away from the incompatibility between philosophy as science and philosophy of life. This paper has two purposes. First, it attempts to analyze the sequence of living horizons of reason, i.e., to lay out a progressive bringing-into-play that begins in a primal history linked to instinct, goes through history proper with its manners of practical reason, and reaches its culmination in a second historicity with a teleological development. In his last dated manuscript, Husserl speaks of “the upright, fair reason of the natural, sound human understanding” that plays a role before “the scientific, philosophical reason” (Hua XXIX, 386). Secondly, against this background, phenomenology of reason is considered as a view that is grounded in passive fulfillments, traces theory back to life, and emphasizes the interpenetration of the various manifestations of reason. It is argued that the relationship between intention and fulfillment pervades the movement from latent to manifest reason, renders possible different modes of rational legitimation, and shows distinctive traits in each mode. With regard to the vitality of Husserlian reason, a brief epilogue for the Spanish speaking world deals with some of J. Ortega y Gasset’s views on the issue.Husserl rechaza la contraposición entre la vida humana como un factum irracional y la razón como una fuerza objetivante hostil a la vida. Prime-ro, intenta analizar la secuencia de horizontes vitales de la razón, es decir, desplegar una progresiva puesta-en-juego que se inicia en la protohistoria ligada al instinto, pasa a través de la historia en sentido propio con sus modalida-des de razón práctica, y culmina en una segun-da historicidad con un desarrollo teleológico. En su último manuscrito fechado, Husserl habla de “la proba y honrosa razón del entendimiento humano natural” que desempeña un papel con anterioridad a “la razón científica, la filosófica” (Hua XXIX, 386). En segundo lugar, frente a este trasfondo, se examina la fenomenología de la razón como una visión que se funda en cum-plimientos pasivos, refiere la teoría a la vida, y pone énfasis en la compenetración de las varia-das manifestaciones de la razón. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect the need for information and educational media in supporting self-management of people with diabetes mellitusat RSU Royal Prima Medan. This type of research is a quantitative research with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study isout patient diabetes mellitusat RSU Royal Prima Medan from January 2022 to December 2022 who have been diagnosed based on criteria totaling 548 patients. Sampling used the Taro Yamane formula with a total sample of 100 samples. Data analysis in this study used univariate analysis and bivariate analysis. The research results show that the majority of diabetes mellitus patients in this study were aged 31-40 years and the majority of patients were male, the quality of self-management of people with diabetes mellitus at RSU Royal Prima Medan was good for 89 patients and 11 patients who were not good, Information needs play a role and influence in supporting self-management of people with diabetes mellitus at RSU Royal Prima Medan p value <0.05, educational media play a role and influence in supporting self-management of people with diabetes mellitus at RSU Royal Prima Medan p value <0.05. Suggestions for RSU Royal Prima Medan should be to maximize all forms of educational activities as well as information regarding self-management of people with diabetes mellitus, such as routinely giving seminars to people with diabetes mellitus on how to maintain good self-management for people with diabetes mellitus

Penelitian ini membahas mengenai membangun master plan teknologi informasi di Kampus Alfa Prima. Tujuan dari penelitian ini tentunya diperlukan dukungan teknologi informasi dan sistem informasi yang handal. Dalam memastikan penggunaan SI/TI tersebut dapat mendukung Kampus Alfa Prima, maka diperlukan masterplan SI/TI yang berbentuk dokumen yaitu yang disebut dengan masterplan TI. Ada beberapa metode yang digunakan untuk membuat membangun master plan teknologi informasi ini yaitu menggunakan metode ward and peppard. Metode ward and peppard ini terdiri dari tahapan masukan dan tahapan keluaran. Pada tahapan masukan terdiri dari analisis lingkungan bisnis internal, analisis lingkungan eksternal, analisis SI/TI internal dan analisis SI/TI lingkungan internal. Selain itu, penggunaan metode ini digunakan analisis Value Chain, analisis SWOT, analisis Mc. Farlan Grid. Hasil dari penelitian ini terdapat hasil dari tahap keluaran yang terdiri dari staretgi TI. Dari hasil tahapan ini, diharapkan Kampus Alfa Prima dapat menerapkan teknologi informasi ini sesuai dengan perencanaan implementasi tersebut.

The biology of marbling is a considerable issue for the Australian beef industry. Measurement of the trait is still a concern: subjective assessment based on the degree of visual fat deposition and its distribution is the 'industry standard' and the basis for payment of marbling grades. Yet this measurement may be subject to operator error and is influenced by chiller temperature. Chemical extraction gives an unequivocal measure of all fat in the muscle (intramuscular fat percentage: IMF%) and has higher heritability and genetic variation than marble score; but does this mirror exactly what the trade regards as 'marbling'?Progeny test results from the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Cattle and Beef Quality breeding projects provide improved understanding of breed and genetic effects on IMF% and marble score. Estimated breeding values (EBVs) for IMF% have been released to the industry for 7 breeds. Heritability estimates confirm that genetic progress will be faster when selection is based on IMF% rather than marble score. Genetic correlations of IMF% with growth, retail beef yield (RBY%), P8 fat, residual feed intake (RFI) and tenderness are now available to underpin selection indices. A favourable allele for marbling (TG5) on chromosome 14 has been identified by CSIRO/MLA as a direct gene marker for the trait. This is now being marketed as GeneSTAR marbling. Other favourable chromosomal regions are under investigation by the CRC.Nutritional manipulation of marbling remains problematic. It is accepted that high-energy grain diets achieve higher marbling than pasture diets. Within grain-based feedlot diets higher marbling is achieved with maize than barley, while barley diets in turn are better than sorghum. Steam flaking produces higher marbling than dry rolled grain and this effect is more marked with sorghum than maize. Beyond these establishments there are many uncertainties: experiments have examined the effects of diets with high protein; low protein; protected lipid; protected protein; added oil with and without calcium; vitamin A deficiency. None of these manipulations gave consistent improvement in marble score or IMF%. Commercial feedlots supplying Japanese B3/B4 markets may have successful dietary manipulations to enhance marbling but because of its proprietary nature the information is not normally available for scientific scrutiny.Japan is the only market for Australian beef where marbling is an important component of the market specification. There can be no doubt that marbling meets a special consumer preference in that niche market. In other markets scientific evidence for a link between marbling and beef tenderness or eating quality has been difficult to define (marbling is a key component of the USA grading scheme for primal cuts but Australia is not a big supplier to that market). In the domestic Meat Standards Australia market there is a trend for marbling to become more important as a consumer issue in 5-star products where higher order sensory attributes of beef come into play. Early meat science investigations concluded that beef flavour elements were water-soluble. This would exclude marbling fat as having a notable influence on flavour.Marbling remains the major determinant of carcass value in Australia's most valuable beef market. Research should continue to assist Australian producers to meet the specifications of that market with increased precision and reduced costs.

This 'Teaching Tips' article focuses on my recent experience of guest-lecturing in colleagues' classes. Influenced by Paulo Freire's Pedagogy of the Oppressed, my initial guest-teaching revolved around posing an argument about geographies of religion as 'grounded theologies' as a problem for students to challenge. However, my recent guest lectures have involved interviewing my colleagues' students to discover why they find grounded theologies interesting. I show that this new mode of guest-lecturing - also influenced by Freire - has opened up new conversations at a primal ontological level through a wider breadth of topics discussed, including occupy movements, Game of Thrones, Black Nordic Metal, and modern imperialist ideologies. Following Sam Rocha's folk phenomenology, I suggest that the primal depths that this interview-lecture style of guest lecturing is perhaps worth a try, even though I plan to use the argumentative lecture in the future as well.

The inappropriate drug storage system can cause the drug to break down quickly, drug expiration, stockout, and drug stagnation. This study aims to evaluate the storage of drugs using the FIFO and FEFO methods in the Royal Prima Medan Hospital Pharmacy Installation Warehouse. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The research samples were employees of Royal Prima Medan Hospital Pharmacy Installation Warehouse who had worked for ± 1 year. For the validity and reliability of the data, source triangulation and method triangulation were used. Data analysis in this study used domain analysis. The results of this study indicate that drug storage activities using the FIFO and FEFO methods in Royal Prima Medan Hospital Pharmacy Installation Warehouse have been running well. Although in the implementation of drug storage activities, human resources problems have been found that play a dual role in their duties, problems of miscommunication among human resources and there is still a lack of training on drug storage using the FIFO and FEFO methods. It is hoped that the Royal Prima Medan Hospital Pharmacy Installation warehouse will more attention to existing human resources problems.

Job satisfaction is the key to the productivity of an organization, especially health services. In fact, job satisfaction and well-being of health workers play an important role in the quality of health services. Nurse jobsatisfaction is related to nurse performance, service quality, and increased patient satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to analyze the job satisfaction of nurses and midwives with training programs, providing welfare and implementing promotions at RSU Royal Prima Marelan. The sample in this study were 76 nurses and midwives at RSU Royal Prima Marelan with the sampling technique using total sampling. The analysis used in this study was univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis. The results of this study indicate that there is an effect of the training program on the job satisfaction of nurses and midwives at RSU Royal Prima Marelan. There is an effect of providing welfare on the job satisfaction of nurses and midwives at RSU Royal PrimaMarelan. There is an effect of implementing promotion on the job satisfaction of nurses and midwives at RSU Royal Prima Marelan. There is an influence of training programs, provision of welfare and implementation of promotion on the job satisfaction of nurses and midwives at RSU Royal Prima Marelan. The independent variable that has the most influence on the job satisfaction of nurses and midwives at RSU Royal Prima Marelan is the variable providing welfare. There is an influence of the influence of training programs, providing welfare and implementing promotion on the job satisfaction of nurses and midwives at RSU Royal Prima Marelan.

Performance appraisal using the Balanced Scorecard method measures a hospital’s performance comprehensively from both the financial and non-financial sectors. As a health service company must have a comprehensive, coherent, balanced and measurable performance appraisal system. This study aims to analyze, test, and measure the performance of the hospital by using The Balance Scorecard case study at Royal Prima Hospital Medan. According to the balanced scorecard, the research problem was how about the performance of Royal Prima Hospital Medan in the period of 2018-2020. The assessment was done from four perspectives: financial perspective, customer perspective, internal business perspective, and growth and learning perspective. The research used mixed methods, a research step by combining two types of research, qualitative and quantitative research. The data were gathered by conducting a documentary study on financial statements, medical records, and personnel records. Primary data were obtained from the interviews with the management and distributing questionnaires to customers and employees in the hospital. The results of the research showed that the performance of the financial perspective on economic ratios is not yet economical, while the efficient and effectiveness ratios are very good, the financial performance of Royal Prima Hospital Medan has been very effective and efficient from 2018 to 2020. The Hospital performance from the customer perspective in the period of 2018-2020 for the percentage of customer retention is still not good, customer acquisition is very good and customer satisfaction is quite good. The performance of internal business perspective in the period 2018-2020 was not good in which the percentage of BOR, BTO, and TOI were not in accordance with the standard of the Ministry of Health. The performance of the percentage of growth and learning at Royal Prima Hospital Medan perspective in the period of 2018 - 2020 shows a fairly good percentage.

El término seguridad alimentaria en los últimos años se lo ligado mucho a la salud y a enfermedades como la obesidad y el sobrepeso causadas en alrededor de 600 millones de personas en todo el mundo, razón por lo que la presente investigación se propuso como objetivo general la elaboración un plan de seguridad alimentaria en una empresa productora y comercializadora de dulces artesanales en el cantón Rocafuerte de la provincia de Manabí. En la parte metodológica el enfoque fue de tipo cualitativo, basándose en un diseño transversal de recopilación de información y análisis de observación visual, el método aplicado fue un estudio de campo a través de listas de chequeo, observaciones y entrevistas realizadas al administrador y personal de la empresa objeto de estudio. Los resultados obtenidos del presente estudio mostraron que existe un cumplimiento de 79%, dejando establecido que hay que fomentar la mejora continua en aspectos como el almacenamiento de la materia prima y el comportamiento del personal. Como conclusión de esta investigación y con la finalidad de mejorar el aspecto de seguridad alimentaria se propuso diseñar un plan de medidas preventivas y de riesgos en el proceso de la elaboración de los dulces que consista en una correcta recepción de la materia prima, almacenamiento, pesado, amasado, fermentación, horneado, empacado, transporte y distribución.
