Kernel functions play an important role in interior point methods (IPMs) for solving linear optimization (LO) problems to define a new search direction. In this paper, we consider primal-dual algorithms for solving Semidefinite Optimization (SDO) problems based on a new class of kernel functions defined on the positive definite cone [Formula: see text]. Using some appealing and mild conditions of the new class, we prove with simple analysis that the new class-based large-update primal-dual IPMs enjoy an [Formula: see text] iteration bound to solve SDO problems with special choice of the parameters of the new class.

Various kinds of nonlinear scalarization functions play important roles in vector optimization. Among them, the one commonly known as the Gerstewitz function is good at scalarizing. In linear normed spaces, the globally Lipschitz property of such function is deduced via primal and dual spaces approaches, respectively. The equivalence of both expressions for globally Lipschitz constants obtained by primal and dual spaces approaches is established. In particular, when the ordering cone is polyhedral, the expression for calculating Lipschitz constant is given. As direct applications of the Lipschitz property, several sufficient conditions for Hölder continuity of both single-valued and set-valued solution mappings to parametric vector equilibrium problems are obtained using the nonlinear scalarization approach.

This paper makes the assertion that despite the significant influence of American neo-pentecostalism in shaping prosperity theology in the charismatic churches in Ghana, it is crucial to note that the primal aspirations of prosperity also continue to play a significant role. Second, the thriving prosperity teaching in the charismatic ministries is largely due to the fact that the charismatics have tapped into fertile ground already nurtured by the traditional concept of prosperity, which is to be understood in terms of wealth, longevity and fertility or procreativity. In the African cosmology, the belief and pursuit of prosperity is paramount. Africans do not 'honour' or accept suffering or poverty, it is a battle they have always sought to fight, and the belief in the gods is primarily to ensure prosperity and well-being. Thus the influence of American-type prosperity teaching only served as a catalyst and also reinforced what was already prevailing in the matrix of the primal world-view. The focus of this prayer is centred on material prosperity, fertility (procreation) and long life (health), which cannot come about without the blessing of the divinities. Harmony with the divinities therefore becomes a prerequisite not only for physical and spiritual protection from evil forces but also for the enjoyment of good health, fertility and longevity.

Image registration is a powerful tool in medical image analysis and facilitates the clinical routine in several aspects. There are many well established elastic registration methods, but none of them can so far preserve discontinuities in the displacement field. These discontinuities appear in particular at organ boundaries during the breathing induced organ motion. In this paper, we exploit the fact that motion segmentation could play a guiding role during discontinuity preserving registration. The motion segmentation is embedded in a continuous cut framework guaranteeing convexity for motion segmentation. Furthermore we show that a primal-dual method can be used to estimate a solution to this challenging variational problem. Experimental results are presented for MR images with apparent breathing induced sliding motion of the liver along the abdominal wall.

The 500th anniversary of the arrival of Columbus in the Americas, which coincided with the arrival of the Christian gospel, prompted the issuing of several films in which Christian mission features prominently: The Mission, Black Robe, and At Play in the Fields of the Lord. Rather than stereotyping either missionaries or indigenous peoples, the films offer complex and penetrating analyses that help to raise the level of popular perception and discussion of the missionary enterprise. They highlight the unique role missionaries have played in the interaction of Westerners with primal cultures. While widely criticized, missionaries may be American culture's best foil for exploring cross-cultural encounters.

The kernel functions play an important role in the amelioration of the computational complexity of algorithms. In this paper, we present a primal-dual interior-point algorithm for solving convex quadratic programming based on a new parametric kernel function. The proposed kernel function is not logarithmic and not self-regular. We analysis a large and small-update versions which are based on a new kernel function. We obtain the best known iteration bound for large-update methods, which improves signicantly the so far obtained complexity results. Thisresult is the rst to reach this goal.

At the height of their collaboration in late 1911, Freud had succeeded in persuading Jung of the role of phylogenetic factors in the etiology of neuroses and psychoses. Phylogenetic considerations play an important part in the formulation of Jung's genetic standpoint of psychology with its conception of a desexualized primal libido, which figured prominently in the dispute which ended the relations between Freud and Jung. Freud's unpublished draft of “Overview of the Transference Neuroses” was in part an attempt to counter Jung's revisions of libido theory by using phylogenetic considerations to reaffirm his original conception of a unified sexual libido. Despite the sharp divergence of many aspects of their respective psychologies after the break, a conception of phylogenetic inheritance continued to play an important role in their developing theoretical formulations.

What happens to us when we enter a Teatro de los Sentidos (Theatre of the Senses) experience? Why do we need to play? Where does our need to play come from? Why is sensory theatre relevant today? For what strange reasons do humans like to play getting lost and finding themselves in the dark? I want to share with you the reasons why Teatro de los Sentidos has been significant to me ever since I became aware of inventing myself and inventing it in my childhood games, imagining forbidden labyrinths in Colombian coffee plantations, until today, at my eighty years of age. It is clear that a lot of primal and parallel knowledge has developed over time in all cultures. Myths, celebrations, imagination, poetry, symbolic powers ... resonate differently, each according to historical circumstances. Let us ask ourselves together: what potential does sensorial theatre have today? (Enrique Vargas: Some questions before the symposium.)

This thesis explores how free play can be promoted, incentivized, and enabled through architecture to reinterpret the elementary school typology within the urban context of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The project is not a playground, but it is not just a school either. It functions as a play of ground that uses manipulated terrain to serve the programmatic needs of a school while also allowing for playful reinterpretation during its use. It combines the school yard with the school through the wielding of a visual datum of 56 inches that allows the space to be inhabited differently by adult faculty compared to young students. The system of ground is designed to be dextrous enough to create scalar variations in space and complex relationships between interior and exterior. It also exists as a recognizable language of objects, pauses, slopes and cliffs. These construct schools within schools, and rooms inside of other rooms serving students individually and collectively within a continuous volume where walls do not exist. In the end, the school tries to re-present a programmatically recognizable example of a typical school for the LAUSD. However, it does this while also creating a combination of play and school that is greater than the sum of those two parts and allows for scales of socialization that promote endless iterations of play.

This thesis examines the play of children in three Melbourne primary school playgrounds, in diverse socio-economic areas. Play categories were developed and data was collected using qualitative methods. The influence of school policy, teacher supervision styles, playspace design and provision of play equipment was explored and compared for each school. The voices of principals, teachers and children, in conjunction with playground observations and questionnaire response were compiled in order to develop a clear picture of each school playground. Findings showed that children in each school participated in a full range of play categories and were prepared to break school rules in order to do so.

This research considers the role and design of digital technologies in play therapy settings with young children. Through an aggregation of academic and practitioner literature, and the results of focus group and individual interviews with therapists and counsellors, a set of design requirements for digital technologies that support non-directive play within a play therapy context is proposed. The study explores how these complex requirements could support non-directive play therapy principles through the development and evaluation of Magic Land, a set of four play therapy applications for an interactive tabletop. On the basis of the qualitative research evidence, it is suggested that the design guidelines should be deeply rooted in the theoretical foundations of non-directive play therapy and reflect a number of psychoanalytic and child social development theories. The concepts developed in two opposing schools of thought by Piaget and Vygotsky are used to guide the design and map the research findings. Taking into account the children’s interest in technology, the therapists’ skills, the affordances of the technology and the design guidelines aligned with the core theories of play therapy, it was found that the Magic Land application on an interactive tabletop could support such non-directive play therapy principles as the development of a trusting therapeutic relationship, a child’s creative expression and the gradual nature of the therapeutic process. It created opportunities for children to practise exercising a feeling of mastery and taking the initiative, as well as allowing for joyful and non-goal oriented free play.

This study focuses on the exploration of the dramatic play of primary aged children and how this play is influenced by adult intervention. In order to research this focus, a qualitative research project was conducted using ethnographic methodology. Observations of dramatic play were recorded, and interviews with children, their teachers and parents conducted. As well, play diaries were kept by small number of families and a survey of a larger group of parents was carried out. The children, parents and teachers were all members of the one school community, with parents all being members of a Centre for Parents operating within the school. Out of this research a number of conclusions were drawn: i) children continue to demonstrate a desire to play dramatically well into their primary years, ii) the provision of opportunities and a supportive environment are the most important adult influences on play, iii) teachers are reluctant to intervene in play texts to develop or enhance them, iv) meaningful play texts can only be generated when the elements of drama are used effectively, and v) parents are generally not supportive of dramatic play within the curriculum.

To look at the effect of free play on the musical improvisations of first, second and third grade children, 108 children were randomly assigned to either a control or treatment group. Subjects were tested using a researcher-designed instrument to elicit an improvisatory response. The control group then received regular music instruction (120 minutes every 2 weeks) and the treatment group received regular music instruction in conjunction with musical free play (100 minutes of instruction and 20 minutes of free play every 2 weeks). The treatment lasted 14 weeks. At the end of the treatment, all students were tested with the same testing instrument used for the pre test. Videotapes of the improvisations were submitted to three independent judges to rate for quality on a 5-point Likert scale. The change in ratings between pre and post tests were analyzed with an analysis of variance to determine if there were significant differences between the control and treatment groups. The analysis of the data revealed no significant difference in the change of ratings between control and treatment groups for the group as a whole, or for any particular grade level within the total group.

Abstract In the fields of space engineering and planetary science, hypervelocity impact phenomena have been studied as they relate to the space debris problem and planetary impact. With regard to hypervelocity-impact-induced damage, many studies focus on the evaluation of impact-damage geometry and morphology, for example, to construct the ballistic limit equations and/or penetrating equations for space structures, and to predict the size and shape of crater and fragments generated by planetary impact [1-4]. While the final state or late stage of an impact event are of primal interest, damage accumulation at early stages affect the overall outcome of the impact event. The understanding of hypervelocity-impact-damage processes lead to improvement of material-response models for hypervelocity impact and higher fidelity simulations of hypervelocity impact events. Under such a background, we have performed real-time imaging of hypervelocity-impact events on transparent materials to investigate the impact-damage formation and evolution processes [5-7]. In our previous work, the stress-wave-propagation behavior and damage evolution were observed by means of a transmitted light shadowgraph. In these measurements, the shape of the longitudinal-stress-wave front, crater and spall fracture were successfully visualized. On the other hand, these shadowgraph images provide little information about damage microstructure. The shadowgraph has difficulty in visualizing ramped waves, such as the release wave, and also for the shear wave which is not accompanied by the change of volumetric strain. Those play important role in initiating damage. This occurs because the intensity of the shadowgraph image depends on the second spatial derivative of the refractive index. In this study, we try two types of real-time imaging of impact events. One is imaging by using scattered light on the impacted target to visualize the microstructure of the impact-induced damage, the other is a shadowgraph using polarized light to visualize propagation of the impact-induced stress field.

If we want to build an education system preparing children for lifelong learning, we can use these strategies and achieve a balance of academic growth, holistic skills and a joy of learning. This presentation addresses the disconnect between policy, research, and practice, by summarising 5 key findings from international studies and 4 challenges to connect policy and practice. The evidence that play supports learning is considerable, and a new framework can create continuity between the early years learning contexts and implementation in schools.

Primase-polymerase PrimPol plays an important role in maintaining the stability of the genome by participating in the mechanism of DNA synthesis restart. The work shows that the C-terminal domain of PrimPol plays a key role in the regulation of enzyme activity, modulating the affinity of PrimPol for DNA and providing stabilization of the incoming initiating nucleotide. The activity of clinically significant PrimPol variants with substitutions in the C-terminal domain was also studied in the work.

Smit, Amelia, Kate Dunlop, Nehal Singh, Diona Damian, Kylie Vuong und Anne Cust. Primary prevention of skin cancer in primary care settings. The Sax Institute, August 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.57022/qpsm1481.

Annotation:
Overview Skin cancer prevention is a component of the new Cancer Plan 2022–27, which guides the work of the Cancer Institute NSW. To lessen the impact of skin cancer on the community, the Cancer Institute NSW works closely with the NSW Skin Cancer Prevention Advisory Committee, comprising governmental and non-governmental organisation representatives, to develop and implement the NSW Skin Cancer Prevention Strategy. Primary Health Networks and primary care providers are seen as important stakeholders in this work. To guide improvements in skin cancer prevention and inform the development of the next NSW Skin Cancer Prevention Strategy, an up-to-date review of the evidence on the effectiveness and feasibility of skin cancer prevention activities in primary care is required. A research team led by the Daffodil Centre, a joint venture between the University of Sydney and Cancer Council NSW, was contracted to undertake an Evidence Check review to address the questions below. Evidence Check questions This Evidence Check aimed to address the following questions: Question 1: What skin cancer primary prevention activities can be effectively administered in primary care settings? As part of this, identify the key components of such messages, strategies, programs or initiatives that have been effectively implemented and their feasibility in the NSW/Australian context. Question 2: What are the main barriers and enablers for primary care providers in delivering skin cancer primary prevention activities within their setting? Summary of methods The research team conducted a detailed analysis of the published and grey literature, based on a comprehensive search. We developed the search strategy in consultation with a medical librarian at the University of Sydney and the Cancer Institute NSW team, and implemented it across the databases Embase, MEDLINE, PsycInfo, Scopus, Cochrane Central and CINAHL. Results were exported and uploaded to Covidence for screening and further selection. The search strategy was designed according to the SPIDER tool for Qualitative and Mixed-Methods Evidence Synthesis, which is a systematic strategy for searching qualitative and mixed-methods research studies. The SPIDER tool facilitates rigour in research by defining key elements of non-quantitative research questions. We included peer-reviewed and grey literature that included skin cancer primary prevention strategies/ interventions/ techniques/ programs within primary care settings, e.g. involving general practitioners and primary care nurses. The literature was limited to publications since 2014, and for studies or programs conducted in Australia, the UK, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, Western Europe and Scandinavia. We also included relevant systematic reviews and evidence syntheses based on a range of international evidence where also relevant to the Australian context. To address Question 1, about the effectiveness of skin cancer prevention activities in primary care settings, we summarised findings from the Evidence Check according to different skin cancer prevention activities. To address Question 2, about the barriers and enablers of skin cancer prevention activities in primary care settings, we summarised findings according to the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR). The CFIR is a framework for identifying important implementation considerations for novel interventions in healthcare settings and provides a practical guide for systematically assessing potential barriers and facilitators in preparation for implementing a new activity or program. We assessed study quality using the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) levels of evidence. Key findings We identified 25 peer-reviewed journal articles that met the eligibility criteria and we included these in the Evidence Check. Eight of the studies were conducted in Australia, six in the UK, and the others elsewhere (mainly other European countries). In addition, the grey literature search identified four relevant guidelines, 12 education/training resources, two Cancer Care pathways, two position statements, three reports and five other resources that we included in the Evidence Check. Question 1 (related to effectiveness) We categorised the studies into different types of skin cancer prevention activities: behavioural counselling (n=3); risk assessment and delivering risk-tailored information (n=10); new technologies for early detection and accompanying prevention advice (n=4); and education and training programs for general practitioners (GPs) and primary care nurses regarding skin cancer prevention (n=3). There was good evidence that behavioural counselling interventions can result in a small improvement in sun protection behaviours among adults with fair skin types (defined as ivory or pale skin, light hair and eye colour, freckles, or those who sunburn easily), which would include the majority of Australians. It was found that clinicians play an important role in counselling patients about sun-protective behaviours, and recommended tailoring messages to the age and demographics of target groups (e.g. high-risk groups) to have maximal influence on behaviours. Several web-based melanoma risk prediction tools are now available in Australia, mainly designed for health professionals to identify patients’ risk of a new or subsequent primary melanoma and guide discussions with patients about primary prevention and early detection. Intervention studies have demonstrated that use of these melanoma risk prediction tools is feasible and acceptable to participants in primary care settings, and there is some evidence, including from Australian studies, that using these risk prediction tools to tailor primary prevention and early detection messages can improve sun-related behaviours. Some studies examined novel technologies, such as apps, to support early detection through skin examinations, including a very limited focus on the provision of preventive advice. These novel technologies are still largely in the research domain rather than recommended for routine use but provide a potential future opportunity to incorporate more primary prevention tailored advice. There are a number of online short courses available for primary healthcare professionals specifically focusing on skin cancer prevention. Most education and training programs for GPs and primary care nurses in the field of skin cancer focus on treatment and early detection, though some programs have specifically incorporated primary prevention education and training. A notable example is the Dermoscopy for Victorian General Practice Program, in which 93% of participating GPs reported that they had increased preventive information provided to high-risk patients and during skin examinations. Question 2 (related to barriers and enablers) Key enablers of performing skin cancer prevention activities in primary care settings included: • Easy access and availability of guidelines and point-of-care tools and resources • A fit with existing workflows and systems, so there is minimal disruption to flow of care • Easy-to-understand patient information • Using the waiting room for collection of risk assessment information on an electronic device such as an iPad/tablet where possible • Pairing with early detection activities • Sharing of successful programs across jurisdictions. Key barriers to performing skin cancer prevention activities in primary care settings included: • Unclear requirements and lack of confidence (self-efficacy) about prevention counselling • Limited availability of GP services especially in regional and remote areas • Competing demands, low priority, lack of time • Lack of incentives.

The purpose of the research is creation of mobile app (supported by Android) for visualization of chemical structure of water and to display video- data of laboratory experiments that can be used by the teacher and pupils for an effective background for learning natural cycle subjects and performance of laboratory experiments in the elementary school using lapbook. As a result of work, aimed at visualizing the education material, a free mobile app LiCo.STEM was developed; it can be downloaded from the overall-available resource Google Play Market. Representation of the developed video materials on the mobile gadgets is conducted by “binding” them to individual images- “markers” for every laboratory experiment. Applying such technologies gives an opportunity to establish educational activity, based on interference of adults with children, oriented on interests and abilities of each kid, development of curiosity, cognitive motivation and educational energy; development of imagination, creative initiative, including the speech, ability to chose the materials, types of work, participants of the common activity, promotion of conditions for parents participate in the common study activity.

This report assimilates and interprets the large body of data generated under the Integrated Test Program (ITP), with particular emphasis on the investigation of formaldehyde formation in large bore natural gas engines. Formaldehyde is a toxic emission that is specifically troublesome for natural gas engines because it is a primary combustion intermediate. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently developing air toxic regulations for oil and gas production, as declared by the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. The EPA is scheduled to promulgate air toxic regulations for internal combustion engines during 2001.

This paper takes seriously the recent claim made by Ethier [1998] that the "New Regionalism" reflects the success of the multilateral trading system, not its failure. In fact, the New Regionalism represents a qualitative departure of the old regionalism in several respects, in particular, its development has taken place in a very different international economic environment. Moreover, the traditional Vinerian paradigm is no longer the primary analytical framework for its evaluation. We use this novel approach to analyze the case of one of the most important experiences in regional integration, the formation of the "Mercado Común del Sur" (MERCOSUR). The paper carefully documents the main stylized facts of the development of MERCOSUR arguing that this makes this type of agreement a prime example of the New Regionalism. Then, using a simple Krugman trade model with tariff distortions we show the positive welfare effects on member and non-member countries of these types of agreements. Our conclusions are consistent with Ethier's paper, that is, regionalism can play a key role in expanding and preserving the liberal trade order.

Approximately 2.69 million tuberculosis (TB) cases—about a quarter of the global cases—were reported in India on The Global TB Report 2019. There are nearly half a million “missing” cases every year, either undiagnosed, unaccountable, or inadequately diagnosed and treated. This paper analyzes the magnitude of TB transmission and the quality of interventions in urban areas and migrant populations in India. It identifies key factors and areas that need to be further strengthened for the country to achieve its goal of eliminating TB by 2025. The study is aligned with the government’s objective to strengthen the provision of comprehensive primary health care services for the urban poor as part of India’s National Strategic Plan, 2017–2025.
