The survivalist movement in the United States has spawned the "disaster prep" phenomenon and has become a lifestyle and identity with potential health-related consequences. "Preppers" anticipate either a natural or man-made apocalypse which will result in the total collapse of civil society, prompting them to "prep" by securing places to shelter during the chaos and stockpiling their homes with food, water, fuel, medicine, and supplies. The purpose of this article was to document the impact of survivalist identity upon health-related decision making and health-seeking behavior, as well as examine the identity building and community formation processes as they unfold in virtual contexts. Data were collected from publicly available survivalism and the Prepper web logs (blogs). Results included discussion about the maintenance of chronic conditions, ethical dilemmas regarding medical dependency, and anticipatory changes to health behavior, with implications for future research on identity building and virtual community participation.

Post–apocalyptic scenarios provide the basis for popular television shows, video games, and books. These scenarios may be popular because people have their own beliefs and visions about the apocalypse and the need to prepare. The prevalence of such beliefs might also hold societal relevance and serve as a type of projective test of personality. However, there are no quantitative accounts of post–apocalyptic or prepping beliefs. As such, we conducted seven studies ( Ntotal = 1034) to do so. In Studies 1 and 2, we developed a post–apocalyptic and prepping beliefs scale, explored its correlates, and confirmed its structure and psychometric properties. In Study 3, we attempted to activate a ‘prepper’ mindset and further explore the correlates of the new scale. In Studies 4 and 5, we investigated covariations in daily feelings, thoughts, and events, and prepping beliefs. In Studies 6a and 6b, we compared scores from ‘real’ preppers and to a non–prepping group. Overall, we found that post–apocalyptic concerns and prepping beliefs are predictive of low agreeableness and humility, paranoia, cynicism, conspiracy mentality, conservatism, and social dominance orientation. We also found that increased belief in the need to prep is associated with God–belief, negative daily experiences, and global political events. © 2019 European Association of Personality Psychology

This study aims to prepper stable thermodynamically dilutable nanoemulsion formulation of Beauveria bassiana with the lowest surfactant concentration that could improve its solubility stability. Formulations were prepared from oil in the water nanoemulsion region of phase diagrams subjected to thermodynamic stability tests. We found propanetriol was the highest germination rate at 5% and 10% concentration, 46.66 and 53.33%, respectively. Castor oil achieved a 43.00 germination rate at 1%. Tween 80 gave 54.33 % germination rate at 10%. While Tween 20 showed a 48 % germination rate at 5%. At the concentration, 1% Term 1284 gave 43.33% rate germination. Nanoemulsion composed of propanetriol and nonionic surfactants, with a mean particle size ranging from 25.08 to 75.35 nm, was formulated for various concentrations of the oils and surfactants. Water in oil emulsion was prepared using propanetriol oil, Tween 20, Tween 80, Term 1284, and water. Nanoemulsion of 25.08, 33.75, and 75.35 nm size was obtained at a 45: 15 % ratio of oil and surfactant, and it was found to be stable. The larger droplet size 75.35 nm of formulation Tween 20 and the smaller size was 25.08 nm in the formulation of Term 1284. The higher viscosity value was 16 mPas of formulation Tween 80, and the lowest value was 7.80 in the formulation of Term 1284. To demonstrate the possible employment of these systems, they were used to formulate a nanoformulation pesticide.

Purpose This paper aims to review the latest management developments across the globe and pinpoints practical implications from cutting-edge research and case studies. Design/methodology/approach This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context. Findings Should you teach an engineering student about Marxist interpretations of Jane Austen? Or a philosophy student about how to fix a broken leg? Well, unless you were desirous of an especially rounded education, then this would seem pretty pointless. However, it has been the lament of many specialists that mainstream education simply follows the paths established centuries before, and do not reflect modern needs of students. Could this also be true of the highly regarded Masters of Business Administration and the students paying tens of thousands of dollars to put themselves through it? Practical implications This study provides strategic insights and practical thinking that have influenced some of the world’s leading organizations. Originality/value The briefing saves busy executives and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy-to-digest format.

Bisphenol A epoxy resin and an acid anhydride [chosen from methyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride (Me-THPA), methylhexahydrophthalic anhydride (MHHPA) and methyl nadic anhydride (MNA)] were used to prepare epoxy films for hot melt prepreg. The effects of film composition, i.e. type and amount of epoxy resin, curing agent and curing catalyst, were investigated to develop a moderate temperature prepreg, and orthogonal experiments were used to investigate the effect of film composition on the curing behaviour of the epoxy resin film, and to determine the optimal formulation. The most favourable formulation film was cured at 100 °C for 2 h, and its curing degree was characterised by FTIR spectroscopy.

In this study, a unidirectional and plain weave carbon fiber/epoxy prepreg was used as the raw material, and the prepreg tape winding process was used to prepare carbon fiber/epoxy prepreg composites with 65% and 75% carbon fiber volume content, respectively. Based on traditional damage experiments and mechanical measurements, electrical measurements are introduced to study the damage to carbon fiber prepreg composites. The damage behavior of the carbon fiber prepreg composite under a high-speed impact load was monitored using the resistance method. By arranging electrodes on the sample and tracking the change in resistance during the entire process of high-speed impact of the material, the relationship between the damage and the change in resistance parameters of the carbon fiber prepreg composite winding products under high-speed impact was determined. The stress-strain curve and the final failure mode of the sample and the microstructure mechanics of carbon fiber prepreg winding products under different strain rates were analyzed. These results indicate that, as the change in resistance over time was almost stable from 0 to 200 μs. From 200 to 250 μs, the resistance decreases sharply; from 250 to 400 μs, the resistance approximates a plateau. From 400 to 500 μs, the resistance value increases again; at this time, the resistance value decreases to 3.2% of the initial resistance value.

Abstract We model the motion of the WE0913A object based on the latest ephemeris and confirm its impact on the far side of the Moon on 2022 March 4. However, this latest ephemeris suggests that the impact will occur at 12:34 pm (UTC) and will be close enough to the lunar limb that the dust cloud could be visible from Earth. The impact could lead to the ejection of a mass of 677 kg, having a velocity in excess of 610 m s−1, and 195 kg moving faster than the lunar escape velocity. Such an ejecta cloud could become apparent shortly after impact in ground-based observations slightly above the equator (∼1/8 of the lunar radius) over the dark side of the Moon. In the V filter of the Johnson photometric system, the ejecta cloud is expected to be brighter than 4 mag, making possible its detection even at dawn.
