Forests play a crucial role in preserving terrestrial biodiversity, producing renewable raw materials, and in reducing the scale and impact of climate change. Proper forest management is therefore crucial for today's society. For these reasons, forestry education is no less important because its aim is to educate highly qualified professionals capable of meeting current challenges. Forestry education has already had a relatively rich history, in many European countries over 100, even 200 years. A very important role in forestry education has always been played by the forest itself, which has been the place of teaching and the largest research laboratory. However, given the rapid advances in science and technology development, it is necessary to redefine the place and importance of the forest for university forestry education at present.

The paper presents the University Forest Enterprise, established in 1935, as an important part of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. The contribution also describes the natural conditions of the enterprise (altitude, climate, geological and soil condition) and the species composition of the forests. Attention is also paid to the organizational structure of the enterprise and to the main activities, being carried out there. These are focused on education and research. However, the number of these activities is stagnating or declining in recent years. Therefore it is necessary to seek a new financing model and start work on the modemization of the facilities and equipment.

This thesis focuses on issue of reputation of higher education institution. Theoretical part defines reputation and specifies it in context of image, identity and brand and describes evaluation methods of these terms in context of higher education. Importance of reputation for public institutions and universities is also described. The objective of the research part was to investigate reputation of University of economics Prague (VŠE) in view of different stakeholders. Second objective was to analyze reputation of private higher education institutions competing with VŠE. Questionnaire was selected as a research method, 3 groups of stakeholders were asked to participate: students of VŠE, students of other universities and companies. Result of the research confirmed the hypothesis, that reputation of private schools worsens their position on the market. Also hypothesis that VŠE has bad reputation in eyes of students of other universities, but great reputation in eyes of companies was confirmed. In the conclusion, some steps to increase reputation of VŠE were recommended.

This thesis deals with problems of development and future heading of IS/ICT at the University of Economics Prague. Its main focus is on application integration. First part of this thesis is aimed towards explanation of corporate and information strategy, its need, benefits and possible risks. Second part of this thesis covers possible approaches to integration, mainly to the integration of various applications. Last part discusses actual situation at the university. Primary goal of this thesis is to determine actual IS/ICT conditions and lay down possible ways of improvement in each area. Secondary objective is to develop a base documentation for project aimed towards implementing an integration platform to the university. Those goals were achieved by thorough analysis of present situation accompanied by discussions with experts about possible development in IS/ICT at the university supplemented by literature research. Main benefits of this thesis lay in detailed revision of current state if IS/ICT along with specification of next possible projects towards having an advanced IT at the university. Partial benefits are in the area of preparation of contractual documents for project of implementing an integration platform.

This thesis deals with problems of identification cards at the University of Economics, Prague. Its primary goal is to consider and evaluate the possibility of a transfer of the ID card management into the ISIS system. The thesis consists of four parts. The first one offers a complex analysis of the ID card management at the University. The second one analyses two ID card management systems: the NESA system, which is being used at the University now, and the ISIS system, which could also be used for the ID card management. The third part includes a proposal of adjustments in the ISIS system, which would make its ID card management implementation comply with the University's needs. The proposal describes general features of the system, relations to its environs and a graphical user interface. Finally the last part covers the actual state of the project and its differences from the proposal offered in the thesis. Information sources for the thesis were legal norms, University regulations and internal documents as well as the author's knowledge and experience gained through several years of the NESA system maintenance and numerous consultations with the University ID card management staff and ISIS developers. The main assets of this thesis lay in the comprehensive view of the ID card management at the University along with the proposal of the new ID card management system, which is to be integrated into ISIS.

This thesis deals with the topic of benefits and challenges of Enterprise Architecture (EA) use in organizations. The main objective of this thesis is the critical analysis of EA potential use in sample organization by examining its benefits and challenges, which results in form of recommendations necessary for efficient management of the organization using EA. Firstly, the thesis introduces the topic of EA along with its core concepts and principles. Then, the author discusses main drivers for EA and its typical application. Perceived in the field of EA benefits and challenges are identified and classified. The result is then confronted with a practical case study, which describes EA application in a sample organization. The author conducts the experimental EA initiative in that organization, by modeling current state (as-is) and potential solution architectures. The main deliverable of this initiative for the organization is the critical analysis of potential EA use within the organization with the identification of its added value and challenges. The findings are then summarized in form of recommendations for the future development of information systems of the organization.

The master thesis focuses on the study information systems used in Czech universities. The biggest part concerns the development of information system used in the University of Economics Prague. The goal of this thesis is to propose a way of a new development of this system, based on the analysis of other systems and to support it with the opinions of a representative sample of University of Economics students. The thesis itself is divided into 3 main parts. The first part shows the 4 most used study systems. Each system is analyzed from different viewpoints and its specifics are stressed. The analysis are made from interviews of the system developers and also web presentations of each subject. Each application solutions are compared with each other. The second part is devoted to the development of the information system of the University of Economics Prague. The author of this thesis expresses his opinion of the information system and proposes a recommendation concerning new functions and possibilities. The proposals are based on the experiences of other students of study information systems, or of the developer himself. All proposals are now in the third part introduced through the questionnaire to students of all other faculties of University of Economics Prague, where they themselves can express their opinions to proposed innovations or to the system in general. The results of the questionnaire are interpreted both in words and graphically.

In 2015, Wien Wirtschafsuniversität ranked among economic universities regularly disclosed on the Financial Times in position number 42. The University of Economics last three years, around 80th place. Why is this so? In the context of this thesis is to analyze not only the legal prerequisites for successful graduates of the master's program Finance and Accounting, but also deals with the practical use of knowledge on the labor market resp. As well as the current unemployment of graduates in what fields they can work, etc. In this work also deals with the human capital theory, which explores the motives for higher education. They are given different conditions during their studies at WU and Economics, as well as development starting salary after graduation. The last chapter contains examples that would be good to apply in the Czech higher education system. The question remains, why WU placed on better positions than ALL? According to the author's investment in science and research in Austria - currently invest nearly 2% of GDP, as well as 100-year-old development WU, when no interruption to develop economic theory and their application in practice, as well as linking university knowledge with practice.

Diploma thesis focuses on issues of motivation for doing business of graduates of University of Economics in Prague. The aim of this diploma thesis is to clarify the context of the start of their business and to make sense of their motivation to start and to do business. In the first theoretical part there are defined basic definitions of business and the approaches to entrepreneurship issues. The second part deals with "business environment" in the Czech republic, this is the first key factor which encourages to start a business. The second key factor is personality of businessmen itself. Subsequently, diploma thesis generally explains problems of motivation, as well as in relation to business. The research was accomplished by the method of the "depth interview" with the absolvents of University of Economics in Prague who run a business. The main conclusions are introduced in the practical part of this thesis.

Bibliographic data provide well established means of the information resource description. Nowadays, there is obvious need to make this data more web-friendly and web-compatible, while web is mostly seen as the only place where people are seeking information. The proposed solution is to change the traditional bibliographic data representation format. Semantic Web initiative presents enhancement of the current web with machine processable data semantics (meaning). The main goal is to manage more effective information processing by web applications that brings up many benefits for web users. Linked data are seen as practical means to reach the semantic web vision. This initiative promotes best practices of publishing, connecting and sharing structural data on the web. This thesis reports the transformation of bibliographic records' format in case of Database of publishing activities at University of Economics, Prague (PCVSE). Benefits of linked data publishing model are demonstrated on the realized projects. The main part describes practical experiences gained during the implementation of RDF framework in phases of data modelling, interlinking and exposing the dataset. The linked data publishing model is seen there as an optimal web-compatible bibliographic data representation format.

The aim of this diploma thesis is the preparation and foundation of the Students' Union of the University of Economics in Prague, which is done by Soft systems methodology. In order to achieve this aim, the thesis elaborates a theory of student organizations and student unions in the Czech Republic. It also compares a set of rules governing student organizations at chosen Czech universities with chosen foreign universities. The result of this comparison is that chosen foreign universities have more systematic policies towards their student organizations. The research part of this thesis contains Analysis two (social) and Analysis three (political) from the Soft systems methodology. The results of the research contains defined set of roles, norms, values and a distribution of power in the environment of student organizations at University of Economics. Practical part of the thesis brings two complete learning cycles of the Soft systems methodology including root definitions, CATWOE and models of purposeful activity. Based on these two learning cycles, the thesis defines the general limits of Soft system methodology for the foundation of student union at Czech universities.

Um interkulturelle Interaktionen verstehen und erklären zu können, bedarf es eines Ansatzes, der offen für die Selbst- und Weltverhältnisse aller beteiligten Interaktanden ist und sich dementsprechend emischer, nicht etischer, Beschreibungen von Handlungen und damit verknüpften Bedeutungszuschreibungen verpflichtet fühlt. Auf Basis (1) eines Kulturbegriffs, der von der Kulturdurchdrungenheit jeglichen Handelns einerseits und der (an individuelles Handeln gebundenen) Handlungsbedingtheit von Kultur andererseits ausgeht, wie dies in der Kulturpsychologie der Fall ist, und (2) qualitativ-sinnverstehender Methodologie und Methoden empirischer Sozialforschung ist dies möglich. Da das Verstehen von (kulturell fremden) Handlungen als Grundlage interkulturell kompetenten Handelns gelten kann, kommt der Lehre hermeneutisch-sinnverstehender Ansätze in der Ausbildung interkultureller Kompetenz somit eine besondere Bedeutung zu. Diesen Zusammenhängen widmet sich die in drei Großkapitel gegliederte – teilkumulative – Dissertation. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit werden die Symbolic Action Theory Ernst E. Boeschs, die handlungstheoretisch und kulturpsychologisch fundierte Relationale Hermeneutik Jürgen Straubs und der Grounded Theory-Ansatzes (Glaser/Strauss) im Hinblick auf ihre Eignung für die Erforschung und Lehre interkultureller Kommunikation und Kompetenz beleuchtet, ihre besondere Nützlichkeit für diesen Kontext begründet und zum Verfahren der ‚pragma-semantischen Analyse’ verdichtet. Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit sind die acht eingereichten Schriften in Originalfassung abgedruckt. Eine Zusammenfassung der zentralen Inhalte und Forschungsergebnisse sowie eine Darstellung der inhaltlichen und entstehungsgeschichtlichen Zusammenhänge der einzelnen Schriften findet sich in Kapitel 1.3. Vor dem Hintergrund des zentralen Themas der Erforschung und Lehre interkultureller Kommunikation rücken in Teil 2 konkrete Handlungsfelder (Tourismus, internationaler Schüleraustausch und Hochschule) in den Blick, die im Rahmen von Forschungs- und Lehrforschungsprojekten untersucht wurden. „Pragma-semantische Analysen zur Erforschung interkultureller Kommunikation“ (2.1) ist eine Studie, die am Beispiel eines reisebiographischen Interviews – in konsequenter Fortsetzung des ersten Teils der Arbeit – die Leistung des komparativen Vorgehens vorführt. Dem Zusammenhang zwischen touristischen Reisen und interkultureller Kommunikation und Kompetenz ist der Handbuchartikel „Tourismus“ (2.2) gewidmet. Die Studie „Touristische Begegnungen aus der Perspektive einer Psychologie interkulturellen Handelns“ (2.3) basiert auf vom Autor erhobenen Beobachtungs- und Gesprächsdaten in Ladakh (im indischen Teil des Himalaya). Die Studie „Experiences and Coping Strategies of Host Families in International Youth Exchange“ (2.4) basiert auf im Rahmen eines Lehrforschungsprojekts erhobenen narrativ-biografischen Interviews und analysiert Erfahrungen und Umgangsstrategien der Gasteltern im Hinblick auf kulturelle Differenz. Mit der programmatischen Betrachtung „Interkulturell ausgerichtete Studiengänge“ (2.5) beginnt der dritte Themenkomplex (Hochschule), der sich der Fruchtbarmachung der in Teil 1 und im Kapitel 2.1. dargestellten Theorien und Methoden für die Lehre im Bereich ‚Interkulturelle Kommunikation’ sowie für die Ausbildung interkultureller Kompetenz widmet. Im Kapitel „Akteure\" (2.6) wird dies mit Bezug u.a. auf die Anforderungen an Studierende, das Lehrpersonal und an die involvierten Institutionen konkretisiert. Der Text „Lehrforschung und Lehrforschungsprojekte“ (2.7) sowie die aus einem Lehrforschungsprojekt entstandene „Bedarfsanalyse“ (2.8) demonstrieren beispielhaft die enge Verzahnung von Forschung und Lehre, Theorie und Praxis und zeigen, wie das in den Kapiteln 2.5 und 2.6 formulierte Programm in der Lehre umgesetzt werden kann. In Teil 3 der Arbeit werden die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse für die Ausbildung im Bereich interkultureller Kommunikation und Kompetenz an der TU Chemnitz fruchtbar gemacht. Insbesondere der ermittelte Bedarf (2.8) an interkulturell ausgerichteten Studienangeboten an der TU Chemnitz sowie die in Kapitel 3.1 vorgenommene vertiefte Analyse der konkreten Standortfaktoren ermöglicht die empirisch und theoretisch fundierte Entwicklung eines detaillierten Konzepts zur Ausbildung Interkultureller Kommunikation und Kompetenz an der TU Chemnitz, das in Kapitel 3.2. dargestellt ist
If one views intercultural competence not as a set of – ultimately parameter-based – skills, but as a result of an understanding of otherness, intercultural competence cannot be taught as such. What can be taught, however, is the way one can make sense of otherness, hermeneutics. Understanding and explaining intercultural interactions requires an approach that is open to the self and world relations of interactants and thus committed to emic, not etic, description of actions and ascription of meaning to actions. This necessitates an understanding of culture that views culture as a result of individual action and all action as steeped in culture. Methodologically, this calls for qualitative interpretive methods. This – partially cumulative – dissertation consists of three parts. The first part discusses in detail two hermeneutic approaches to interculturality: Ernst E. Boesch’s Symbolic Action Theory and Jürgen Straub’s Relational Hermeneutics. Using Grounded Theory (Glaser/Strauss), these two approaches can be turned into a highly useful tool for the investigation of intercultural phenomena: Pragma-Semantic Analysis. The second part contains eight papers and articles. Starting with three papers demonstrating the usefulness of pragma-semantic analysis if applied to authentic ethnographic data, this part also explores interculturality in host families in international youth exchange and the intercultural systematics of tourism. The other four papers address various aspects of teaching the subject of Intercultural Communication at universities – degree structures, teaching/research projects and needs analysis. The recurring theme in these four papers is the necessity of a close interrelation between research and teaching as well as theory and practice. The third part, based on a case study from the second, outlines challenges and opportunities for the development of intercultural study programmes at the University of Chemnitz. It was conducted between February and July 2010 to gain deep understanding into how teachers of learners with special needs are educated in the Czech Republic and to find out how the programme is promoting inclusive education in the country. The literature review on teacher education and special education needs underscored the importance of the topic in the new millennium as many governments and ministries through their faculties of education in universities are coming up with strategies to ensure the achievement of "education for all" by 2015. I administered semi-structured interview to 3 lecturers including a retired professor of the Department and an official from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports; questionnaire to 15 final year students selected through purposive sampling and reviewed official legal documents to gather data for the study. This diploma thesis focuses on the history of the faculty of theology in Prague from its foundation in 1347 until the outbreak of the Hussite revolution. This thesis first maps the assumptions of the establishment of general teaching in Prague and the founding act of Pope Clement VI. and Emperor Charles IV. Subsequently, the beginnings of teaching at the faculty of theology and its institutional development until 1419 are described. Special attention is paid to the issue of the papal establishment of the faculty, the organization of studies and the role of the Archbishop of Prague as the university chancellor. The internal difficulties of the faculty and the placement of the faculty of theology in the context of the history of Charles University are not neglected either. Methodologically, the work is based on a comparison of literature, and analysis of sources.

This thesis is devoted to the analysis of the realist view in the dispute about the nature of universals at Prague university during the reign of Wenceslas IV. At the same time, I explore the realism of the beginning of the fifteenth century in the Czech intellectual environment with regard to its international influences, with which I deal both synchronically and diachronically. I inquire into Prague realism as an original tradition of thinking, which is inspired by the philosophy and logic of foreign thinkers, but such influence is recontextualized into the Czech intellectual environment in a completely unprecedented way. My epistemological framework is based in inductive research, which I conduct by combining the results derived from the analysis of independent datasets of primary data. Such methodological choice enables me to carry out triangulation, i.e. finding the objective truth through approaching the topic from various viewpoints. I reach the conclusion that the dispute about the nature of universals at Prague university at the beginning of the fifteenth century cannot be reduced to the opposition between the nominalism of German masters and the realism of Czech masters, but realism can be apprehended as an important school of thought in terms of establishing an independent tradition of...

In this diploma thesis I have analyzed the view of University of Prague's former students towards their studies in the so called normalization era in Czechoslovakia. The aim of this study was to discover how much different were the former studies compared to the current ones. The accent was pointed primarily on economic sciences. Apart from the theoretical economical education was also the ideological way of education influence analyzed. The result of such analysis should then answer the question whether the education during the normalization period was entirely ideologically manipulated and totally uncorresponding with the today's education of economics, as many laics believe, or not. I have also uncovered the fact whether the former indoctrinated education can be practically applied by former students in their current laissez fair oriented employment. Although this study confirms, based on former students and educators narratives, relatively significant occurrence of communism ideology in university's education as a whole, the professionalism of purely economic oriented sciences at VŠE though, cannot be disclaimed. This thesis is a comparative case study that employs the disciplines and subjects of urban studies, history of universities and city planning. It presents and compares the history of the built environment of the Charles University Prague and the University of Vienna from their very beginning until present days. Main subject of the study therefore is the (spatial) city- university relationship and the position of the respective university in it. How many areas does the university use? What are these like? What are the distances between each of them and what is the distance to the attractive downtown? What are the respective historical contexts of all the development plans, which of them became reality and which not? These research questions are answered in the comparative analysis of the two universities. A second subject of the paper is the analysis of the agility of the universities who are facing some global development trends of the university strategic planning and have to deal with them both now and in the future. Do the development plans of the university support the interdisciplinary cooperation, globally competitive science or it's own position in the host city in order to support own attractiveness and efficiency? Ecclesiology of Antonín Salajka (1901-1975) The following work presents an ecclesiological analysis of the publication by prof. Antonín Salajka (1901-1975). In the first part, it submits the biography of the author. This author was the first czech catholic priest laureated in Pontifical Institute of Oriental Studies in Rome (in 1930). In the second part, it closely inteprets the very ecclesiology of the author itself. Salajka - theologist is introduced from several perspectives as well. First we supplied a suggestion for periodization of his scientific work. There we proposed two periods in congruence with a paradigm change of ecclesiastic-social circumstances, including changes of theological studies, which evidently affected our author's life and scientific work. The two proposed periods are: (1) 1930-1950, i.e. scientifically paramount and fundamental; (2) 1950-1975. Another objective was to evaluate the effect of selected clinical parameters in patients with SSc on the detected variability of the parameters of body composition and on physical activity of patients. Methods: The research group N = 95, group SSc (n = 59), control group (n = 36). Směřuje tak k prvnímu úplnému zhodnocení architektova díla v kontextu moderní meziválečné architektury Československa. Vzhledem k nezvykle širokému rozsahu Machoňova díla, kopírujícího vlastně formální vývoj architektury první poloviny dvacátého století, se práce zaměřuje na čtveřici jeho pražských projektů ze dvacátých a třicátých let. Ta reprezentuje jednak odlišné typy zakázek a zároveň různá období Machoňovy tvorby. Při úpravě barokního Klementina pro účely univerzitní a technické knihovny musel architekt vedle funkčnosti knihovního provozu dbát památkové hodnoty areálu. Realizací právnické fakulty Univerzity Karlovy upozadil sám sebe jako tvůrce, aby vzdal hold svému vzoru Janu Kotěrovi. The work deals with the origins of development of education in the town of Jindřichův Hradec (Neuhaus, Nova Domus). It briefly describes the history of the city, and it mentions the development of the school system in Bohemia. The study follows the development of educational facilities in Jindřichův Hradec from its beginnings in the Middle Ages up to the climax in the form of the University. The greatest attention is paid to the local pride of education - "grammar school" with its more than four hundred-year-old history - while trying not to miss any of the schools that arose in the town over the centuries. The study demonstrates the importance of Jindřichův Hradec as the school centre of more than regional significance.

The main aim of this work is to determine whether the academics in economic disciplines are willing to take part in industry placement, which requires an academic to be placed into a relevant industry host organization for a predetermined period of time. During this placement teacher gains practical experience, that can be used later to improve the education process. Academic can help the company with innovations thanks to his wide theoretical knowledge, especially in case of smaller organizations. One of the key factors influencing the quality of nursing care practice is the research applied within nursing processes. Therefore it is vital for theory to be closely linked with practice. To perform research and apply its results in practice is one of the conditions which lead to the development of evidence-based practice. Research applied in nursing care is a key strategy resulting into the unification of the human educational and scientific aspects of nursing care. This thesis focuses on the nursing care research and its application in practice together with the role of senior nurses within this process. The aim was to investigate whether and how the nurses are actually involved in nursing care research plus to examine whether ordinary nurses are willing to accept any changes associated with the introduction of the results of nursing care research into nursing practice. Besides this, also to determine whether nurses are encouraged to implement the results of nursing research into nursing practice, to observe nursing care deputies and leading nurses experience in respect to the implementation of the nursing care research results into practice in different types of hospitals plus to determine whether and how nurses introduce the results of nursing care research into practice. The final objective of this thesis was to determine whether the head nurses manage to introduce the results of the nursing care research into their nursing practice. In quantitative survey performed, the research sample consisted of nurses who work in inpatient departments at clinics and regional hospitals - public limited companies of the Central, South, West Bohemia, and Prague. 350 questionnaires were distributed. The research involved 186 questionnaires. Qualitative research data collection involved 12 respondents, out of which there were 3 head sisters employed at clinics and 3 nursing care deputies plus 3 head nurses from regional hospitals - public limited companies. All interviews were entirely anonymous. According to the survey findings, most of the nurses replied that they are not actively involved in the nursing care research. Nurses generally follow published results of nursing care research, but on the other hand, it is obvious, that they follow nursing care research outcomes randomly and without particular focus. Nurses not only that they refuse any changes, but they do not see any benefits of the implementation of research findings into the nursing care practice. The qualitative survey performed met objectives and all questions were answered. Any of the responses can serve for further quantitative research, especially when the results of the implementation of the nursing care research into practice at clinics and regional hospitals are compared.
