We converted to CO2 samples of organic materials, Quaternary carbonate rocks and carbonates extracted from groundwater. We measured 14C radioactivity in a proportional counter with an effective volume of 723ml filled to 0.28MPa. A mechanical box with an inside cylinder of a plastic scintillator, 4cm thick, arranged in anticoincidence provides the shielding. We present a review of radiocarbon ages of Quaternary and archaeological samples.

The article deals with the development of cartography at Charles University in Prague. Its development is monitored from the time of our oldest known map by Vavřinec of Březová, master and professor of Prague University, dating from the beginning of the 15th century. A special attention is paid to the development after 1920, when Faculty of Science was established at Charles University - since that time, both geography and cartography have been taught here instead of the Faculty of Philosophy. Cartography, science on map generating, has been always a part of geography and only recently it has become an independent discipline.

The report on the finding describes the hitherto unknown Codex Ve 2 of the Prague Monastery of Our Lady of the Snows, which contains two medieval German texts of scholarly prose - 'Buch der Natur' by Conrad of Megenberg (complete text) and 'Pelzbuch' by Gottfried of Franconia (a selection). The same composition is shared by four known codexes from various German libraries. A detailed analysis has revealed that the Prague Codex is closest to a manuscript from the University Library of Heidelberg, signature Cpg 286, from the year 1442. It can be assumed that the Prague Codex (referred to as Pr2) and the Heidelberg Codex were copied from the same template, although the quality of the text in the Heidelberg manuscript is higher. The Prague manuscript was written around the middle of the 15th century and originates, like the Heidelberg manuscript, from the south-west of the Upper German language region, having features of the Swabian dialect. Der Fundbericht beschreibt den bisher unbekannten Kodex Ve 2 des Prager Klosters St. Maria Schnee, der das 'Buch der Natur' Konrads von Megenberg (Text vollständig) sowie das 'Pelzbuch' Gottfrieds von Franken (in Auswahl) enthält. Die gleiche Zusammensetzung kommt auch in vier weiteren bisher bekannten Kodices aus verschiedenen deutschen Bibliotheken vor. Durch eine eingehende Analyse wurde festgestellt, dass der Prager Kodex der Handschrift der Universitätsbibliothek Heidelberg Cpg 286 aus dem Jahre 1442 am nächsten steht. Es ist anzunehmen, dass der Prager Kodex (von uns als Pr2 bezeichnet) und die Heidelberger Handschrift aus der gleichen Vorlage abgeschrieben wurden, wobei die Qualität des Textes in der Heidelberger Hs. höher ist. Die Prager Handschrift wurde um die Mitte des 15. Jh. s. geschrieben, entstand wie die Heidelberger im Südwesten des oberdeutschen Gebietes und weist gewisse Züge des schwäbischen Dialekts auf.

Like many other universities across Europe, the Czech Charles-Ferdinand University in Prague (later Charles University), too, since the end of the nineteenth century tried to reach wider strata of society using lectures intended for the broad public, so-called ‘extensions’. These activities importantly included several representatives of historical Slavic studies, especially Jaroslav Bidlo and his student Milada Paulová. This study focuses on the period during which Bidlo, in 1921–1931, served as president of the Prague committee for organising lectures for the broad public, the ‘Extension of Prague Universities’, while Paulová helped as a secretary of this institution (1921–1935).

Josef Ryš (* 1879, † 1960) was a high school professor at the Real School in Jevíčko, a prominent local researcher - mineralogist and head of the local physical education unit Sokol. Between 1909 and 1958, he published a total of 11 works on the geological and mineralogical conditions of the greater Jevíčko area. He has collaborated with important institutions, such as the Moravian Museum in Brno, Masaryk University in Brno, Charles University in Prague and the National Museum in Prague. He has built a quality collection of Czech and world minerals, of which a total of 913 pieces are stored in the collection of the National Museum in Prague. From this collection, 65 minerals were selected for the new permanent mineralogical exhibition of the National Museum.

Proper forest management is therefore crucial for today's society. For these reasons, forestry education is no less important because its aim is to educate highly qualified professionals capable of meeting current challenges. Forestry education has already had a relatively rich history, in many European countries over 100, even 200 years. A very important role in forestry education has always been played by the forest itself, which has been the place of teaching and the largest research laboratory. However, given the rapid advances in science and technology development, it is necessary to redefine the place and importance of the forest for university forestry education at present.

The paper presents the University Forest Enterprise, established in 1935, as an important part of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. The contribution also describes the natural conditions of the enterprise (altitude, climate, geological and soil condition) and the species composition of the forests. Attention is also paid to the organizational structure of the enterprise and to the main activities, being carried out there. These are focused on education and research. However, the number of these activities is stagnating or declining in recent years. Therefore it is necessary to seek a new financing model and start work on the modemization of the facilities and equipment.

This thesis focuses on issue of reputation of higher education institution. Theoretical part defines reputation and specifies it in context of image, identity and brand and describes evaluation methods of these terms in context of higher education. Importance of reputation for public institutions and universities is also described. The objective of the research part was to investigate reputation of University of economics Prague (VŠE) in view of different stakeholders. Second objective was to analyze reputation of private higher education institutions competing with VŠE. Questionnaire was selected as a research method, 3 groups of stakeholders were asked to participate: students of VŠE, students of other universities and companies. Result of the research confirmed the hypothesis, that reputation of private schools worsens their position on the market. Also hypothesis that VŠE has bad reputation in eyes of students of other universities, but great reputation in eyes of companies was confirmed. In the conclusion, some steps to increase reputation of VŠE were recommended.

This thesis deals with problems of development and future heading of IS/ICT at the University of Economics Prague. Its main focus is on application integration. First part of this thesis is aimed towards explanation of corporate and information strategy, its need, benefits and possible risks. Second part of this thesis covers possible approaches to integration, mainly to the integration of various applications. Last part discusses actual situation at the university. Primary goal of this thesis is to determine actual IS/ICT conditions and lay down possible ways of improvement in each area. Secondary objective is to develop a base documentation for project aimed towards implementing an integration platform to the university. Those goals were achieved by thorough analysis of present situation accompanied by discussions with experts about possible development in IS/ICT at the university supplemented by literature research. Main benefits of this thesis lay in detailed revision of current state if IS/ICT along with specification of next possible projects towards having an advanced IT at the university. Partial benefits are in the area of preparation of contractual documents for project of implementing an integration platform.

This thesis deals with problems of identification cards at the University of Economics, Prague. Its primary goal is to consider and evaluate the possibility of a transfer of the ID card management into the ISIS system. The thesis consists of four parts. The first one offers a complex analysis of the ID card management at the University. The second one analyses two ID card management systems: the NESA system, which is being used at the University now, and the ISIS system, which could also be used for the ID card management. The third part includes a proposal of adjustments in the ISIS system, which would make its ID card management implementation comply with the University's needs. The proposal describes general features of the system, relations to its environs and a graphical user interface. Finally the last part covers the actual state of the project and its differences from the proposal offered in the thesis. Information sources for the thesis were legal norms, University regulations and internal documents as well as the author's knowledge and experience gained through several years of the NESA system maintenance and numerous consultations with the University ID card management staff and ISIS developers. The main assets of this thesis lay in the comprehensive view of the ID card management at the University along with the proposal of the new ID card management system, which is to be integrated into ISIS.

This thesis deals with the topic of benefits and challenges of Enterprise Architecture (EA) use in organizations. The main objective of this thesis is the critical analysis of EA potential use in sample organization by examining its benefits and challenges, which results in form of recommendations necessary for efficient management of the organization using EA. Firstly, the thesis introduces the topic of EA along with its core concepts and principles. Then, the author discusses main drivers for EA and its typical application. Perceived in the field of EA benefits and challenges are identified and classified. The result is then confronted with a practical case study, which describes EA application in a sample organization. The author conducts the experimental EA initiative in that organization, by modeling current state (as-is) and potential solution architectures. The main deliverable of this initiative for the organization is the critical analysis of potential EA use within the organization with the identification of its added value and challenges. The findings are then summarized in form of recommendations for the future development of information systems of the organization.

Annotation:
The aim of the paper is to evaluate teachers´ competences and their self-reflection in the teaching process. The topicality of the research presented in the paper is given by the fact that teachers at university level must prove excellent competences regardless external factors which affect the teaching process any time. Competence is the key qualified and professional job performance in any sector. The paper focuses on the competences of university teachers which they acquire and develop throughout their career. Attention is given to professionally and personality cultivating competences, part of which is also self-reflection. Self-reflection refers to a person’s ability of introspection and willingness to learn more about own abilities and skills. This will lead to a better ability to identify changes that may be required. The methodology consists in a research based on a questionnaire survey and statistical evaluation of gathered information. The paper gives an outline of the evaluation process at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU), during which opinions of students and teachers about instruction were analysed, together with the fulfilment of selected university competences. The main body of the paper is dedicated to the statistical processing of selected data from the evaluation survey conducted by using the SPSS programme. The results indicate that there are significant deviations of teachers´ self-evaluation from the students´ opinion. The Institute of Education and Communication is going to offer courses in advanced competence development using techniques of self-reflection. This has a potential to enhance effectiveness of the teaching process at university level.

Annotation:
The paper compares latest views of theorists and practitioners on development of management. Management as a scientific discipline develops over 150 years. During this period many new practices, processes, structures and techniques appeared. Some of them were remarkable management innovation that changed ways how things happen in organization. Recent years brought big changes like globalization, and ICT development to our lives. Theorists represented by J. Birkinshaw, G. Hamel, and H. Mintzberg think that these changes initiate new period of huge innovations in management, may be even the change of the paradigm. We do the research on whether practitioners see the shift in management predicted by academicians. The paper compares the ideas of academicians with results of the pilot survey of this research.
