Does political corruption erode civic values and foster dishonest behavior? I test this hypothesis in the context of Mexico by combining data on local government corruption and cheating on school tests. I find that, following revelations of corruption by local officials, secondary students' cheating on cognitive tests increases significantly. The effect is large and robust and persists for over a year after malfeasance is revealed. These findings are validated by evidence from individual survey data, which documents that individuals interviewed right after corruption is revealed report being less honest, less trustworthy, and more prone to thinking that cheating is necessary to succeed, compared to similar individuals interviewed just beforehand. Falling revenues and rising costs have put US nuclear plants in financial trouble, and some threaten to close. To understand the potential private and social consequences, we examine the abrupt closure of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) in 2012. Using a novel econometric approach, we show that the lost generation from SONGS was met largely by increased in-state natural gas generation. In the twelve months following the closure, natural gas generation costs increased by $350 million. The closure also created binding transmission constraints, causing short-run inefficiencies and potentially making it more profitable for certain plants to act noncompetitively. The article is based on the research in mobile applications markets. The distribution of market power in these markets depends on the ability of a digital ecosystem’s owner to control the handling of mobile applications inside the ecosystem. The degree of this control is determined by the substitutability of different application stores as necessary facilities for the access to mobile applications. The authors provide the survey-based empirical estimates of such substitutability for Apple’s mobile application store — App Store. The results of further tests for market boundaries delineation confirm the embeddedness of final users in Apple’s ecosystem in absence of feasible opportunities to change the operating system and, consequently, the application store. The findings explain the degree of Apple’s market power and provide grounds for antitrust intervention.

The global poverty count uses a common global poverty line, often referred to as the dollar-a-day line, currently $1.25 at 2005 international prices, whose construction and application depends on purchasing power parity (PPP) exchange rates for consumption. The price indexes that underlie the PPPs used for this purpose are constructed for purposes of national income accounting, using weights that represent patterns of aggregate consumption, not the consumption patterns of the global poor. Beginning in the late 1990s, electricity markets in many US states were deregulated, and almost half of the nation's 103 nuclear power reactors were sold to independent power producers. Deregulation has been accompanied by substantial market consolidation, and today the three largest companies control one-third of US nuclear capacity. We find that deregulation and consolidation are associated with a 10 percent increase in operating performance, achieved primarily by reducing the duration of reactor outages. At average wholesale prices, this increased operating performance is worth $2.5 billion annually and implies an annual decrease of 35 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Uppsala kommun wishes to participate in the market but needs a solution for communication between market and technology and smart control methods. In this project, the solution to the problem, consisting of a mobile app, API, database, server and deep learning model, almost meets the requirements to participate on the market this autumn. With more time and resources, the product can hopefully be completed, enabling both economic and city growth in the region.

För att spara el är det  fördelaktigt om man förstå mekanismerna i elförbrukningen. De senaste åren har  det skapats både hårdvara och mjukvara för att överblicka elförbrukningen i detalj  än bara den totala energiförbrukningen. Studerar man varje elektrisk apparats  förbrukning över till exempel ett år ökas därmed insikten om hur hushållets  energiförbrukning är fördelad.   En app har designats för att presentera denna information. Användare får gå  igenom appen för att sedan testas för att se om de kan förstå och använda appen.  Testerna visar att användarna har ökat sin förståelse genom visualiseringen av  datan som presenteras i appen.
Consumption of electricity is a subject with both personal and global purposes.  Reducing the use of power is positive both for the private finances and the  environment. In order to make such a reduction, it is helpful to understand how  the electricity is spent. In the recent years both hardware and software solutions to  display more detailed information on an individual’s consumption than just their  total use. If they could see how much their devices use and how their usage levels  changes over a year, they might increase their understanding of how they spend  their electricity.   An app has been designed to show this information. Users can then use the app for  a while before being tested with questions that can only be answered correctly by  using the app. These tests do show that the users have increased their  understanding of their electricity consumption

In recent years, there has been extended research on the Big Five and social media, especially Facebook. Snapchat, a fast-growing photo-sharing app, has however not been thoroughly researched yet. This paper aimed at closing this research gap and at investigating the relationship between the Big Five personality traits and Snapchat users and nonusers. Additionally, it researched the potential of the app to advertise new music published by music labels. The sample consisted of 124 self-selected Snapchat users and non-users (94 Snapchat users and 30 Snapchat non-users), between the ages of 18 and 55. Approximately 53% of the participants were from Sweden, 24% from Germany and the rest from other countries. Participants were asked to complete an online questionnaire comprising the Big Five Inventory and demographic questions. Snapchat users also completed a Snapchat usage questionnaire. Additionally, a short interview about Snapchat was held with a representative of a music label. The results showed that there are only minor differences between Snapchat users and non-users regarding the Big Five personality traits. However, male Snapchat users tend to be more open to new experiences. The usage of specific Snapchat features could be connected to more extraverted, neurotic and conscientious individuals. The overall interest for musicrelated content on Snapchat was rather low. Therefore, Snapchat can be used as a complementary marketing action to raise awareness, but cannot stand alone.
Under de senaste åren har det gjorts utökad forskning om Big Five och sociala medier, särskilt Facebook. Snapchat, en snabb växande bilddelning app, har dock inte undersökts noggrant. Detta examensarbete syftade till att undersöka det outforskade området kring förhållandet mellan Big Five personlighetsdrag och Snapchat-användare och icke- användare. Dessutom undersökte den möjligheten för skivbolag att annonsera ny musik i appen. Urvalet bestod av 124 självvalda Snapchat-användare och icke-användare (94 Snapchat-användare och 30 Snapchat-icke-användare), mellan 18 och 55 år. Ungefär 53% av deltagarna var från Sverige, 24% från Tyskland och resten från andra länder. Deltagarna blev ombedda att fylla i ett online frågeformulär som omfattade Big Five Inventory och demografiska frågor. Snapchat-användare slutförde också ett Snapchat-användningsformulär. Dessutom hölls en kort intervju om Snapchat med en representant från ett skivbolag. Resultaten visade att det endast finns mindre skillnader mellan Snapchatanvändare och icke-användare angående Big Five-personlighetsdragen. Manliga Snapchat-användare tenderar att vara mer öppna för nya upplevelser. Användningen av specifika Snapchat-funktioner kan kopplas till mer extravert, neurotiska och samvetsgranna individer. Det övergripande intresset för musikrelaterat innehåll på Snapchat var ganska lågt. Därför kan Snapchat användas som en kompletterande marknadsföringsåtgärd för att öka medvetenheten, men inte som enda marknadsföringsåtgärd.

There is an ongoing debate by people in the industry whether to make native or web applications. These discussions mostly surround issues about development costs, user experience and capabilities. Another aspect of this debate is the fact that mobile devices have varying hardware specifications which is another factor to consider when making this decision. What we want to shed some light on is how performance is affected on the device when using these two different approaches of application development. The use of CPU/RAM and Energy is our primary concern and in our experiment we measure these values on two similar applications where one uses Nested Layouts and the other a WebView. The experiment was made on three different devices with varying specifications. What we found was that Web applications have a bigger impact on overall performance and because of this use more battery. While the debate certainly won't come to a close with results they are conclusive when it comes to the topic of performance and will be of value to developers who are concerned about it.

Abstract: A qualitative research study, aimed at exploring the wounded healer and the way in which this historic archetype is applied to the modern day therapist's personal and professional development and practice. The literature that has been published has provided various hypotheses about the influences of being a wounded healer on both the therapist and the work carried out with the client. The claims made however are not conclusive and there appeared to be very few empirical studies to support them. The aim of this study was to explore 'The Therapeutic Use of the Self: The Personal and Professional Journey of the Wounded Healer", so as to give a voice to those who identify as wounded healers and may be considered as a marginalised and disempowered group. A sample of eight participants were used, a combination of psychotherapists and psychologists. Data collection was carried out in the form of one-ta-one semi-structured, open-ended interviews which were then analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Five master-themes were identified with associated sub-themes. The findings indicate that personal experiences inform professional practice. There appeared to be both contributions made to and barriers existing in, the participants' professional worlds when it was chosen to work in a way that involved drawing from their own suffering and woundedness to inform their practice. These seemed to be mediated by the context in which the participants found themselves. The study makes a case for the theory that the therapists' own suffering and woundedness can be a great strength and a resource in their work with clients and can facilitate healing in both the client and the therapist

El presente trabajo consiste en el desarrollo de un plan de negocio para la empresa C&C Power Technologies, cuyo giro corresponde a la provisión de servicios energéticos con el objetivo de aumentar los niveles de eficiencia energética de sus clientes, esto en base a un modelo de negocio ESCO, cuya sigla en inglés significa Energy Services Company. Dentro de la industria de servicios energéticos, las empresas que operan bajo el modelo ESCO se caracterizan principalmente por dirigir íntegramente un proyecto de eficiencia energética en las instalaciones del cliente, incluyendo una auditoría energética, propuestas técnicas, propuestas de financiamiento, instalación y mantenimiento de equipamiento tecnológico y monitoreo de ahorros energéticos logrados. Este modelo de negocio se caracteriza por crear una relación a largo plazo con el cliente, donde los servicios son pagados durante años a través del ahorro monetario generado en base al mayor ahorro energético logrado en los procesos productivos de los clientes. Bajo este modelo de negocios, el cliente normalmente transfiere los riesgos técnicos y financieros a C&C Power Technologies. En relación al sector servicios energéticos a la cual pertenece C&C Power Technologies, este se encuentra inmersa en un contexto en donde los desafíos en el ámbito de la energía a nivel nacional son relevantes. A nivel país estamos frente a múltiples y complejos retos que exigen soluciones eficientes: el crecimiento en la demanda de energía, la dependencia energética, el cambio climático y la expansión del sistema eléctrico, entre otros. Frente a todos estos desafíos, la eficiencia energética surge como una solución factible y sustentable para nuestro país. Al respecto, muchas empresas han comenzado a responder a esta necesidad en dicho ámbito, es así como se ha ido consolidando la industria de servicios energéticos, cuyos esfuerzos se han orientado en alcanzar mayores niveles de eficiencia energética en los diversos rubros económicos. De esta forma, la eficiencia energética es parte de la solución, ya que disminuye el consumo de energía del país, reduce la dependencia de los energéticos importados, aumenta la seguridad de suministro y disminuye las emisiones de gases efecto invernadero. Adicionalmente, contribuye a incrementar la competitividad del país, al haber menores costos de producción. La idea de desarrollar este proyecto nace fundamentalmente como una respuesta a necesidades concretas al interior de las empresas, particularmente en relación al alza sostenido del precio de las distintas fuentes energéticas, lo cual incide directamente en la necesidad de las empresas para bajar sus costos productivos, así como también a la necesidad de lograr mayores niveles de responsabilidad social empresarial, mediante la menor emisión de elementos contaminantes hacia el medioambiente. Los servicios que C&C Power Technologies pretende comercializar en el mercado son: i) auditorías energéticas; ii) consultorías en eficiencia energética, e; iii) implementación de proyectos de eficiencia energética. El modelo de negocios que se quiere implementar en C&C Power Technologies va más allá de limitarse a entregar un diagnóstico energético a sus clientes tal como lo hace la mayor parte de las empresas consultoras en el ámbito de la eficiencia energética establecidas en el país. Este modelo ofrece soluciones prácticas y con un alto valor agregado dado que se ofrece llevar a cabo la dirección integra de proyectos de eficiencia energética, asegurando resultados en términos de ahorros energéticos a ser logrados. Es por esto que el modelo de negocios de C&C Power Technologies posee un mayor atractivo en relación a otros tipos de proyectos que en la actualidad se comercializan en el ámbito de la eficiencia energética, en donde la implementación y monitoreo de los resultados finalmente queda a cargo del cliente. Dentro del plan financiero, se da a conocer el VAN esperado de la empresa, el cual asciende a $418.820.330 (TIR 75,2%). Mediante una simulación de escenarios se demuestra un significativo nivel de sensibilidad del VAN sujeto al cambio en el número de servicios comercializados por la empresa durante los próximos diez años, lo cual da cuenta de que el negocio tiene un nivel de riesgo medio/alto.

Method:

This research is actualized by using the deductive approach. Our

research method is quantitative and qualitative where a survey and

six interviews were done to collect the empirical data as well as

personal research through secondary sources. Thus, the types of

data used are primary and secondary. Our data sources are

documentations, archival records and interviews.

Empirical data:

Our empirical data was gathered in IKEA of Sweden (IoS) which

is one of the companies under the IKEA conglomerate. This office

is located in Älmhult Sweden.

Analysis and Conclusion:

Organizations of today do operate in a dynamic era where

strategies should be flexible to the changing times, so with their

implementers! If IoS should continue to be a part of the successful

actors in this arena, good leadership qualities should be secured.

Exertion of position-power should be meticulously applied with

good communication of the change visions as one of the primary

focus in order to abate if not eliminate possible blockages such as

resistance, thus, making use of power to their advantages instead

of the opposite! For other change agents, a careful consideration of

the surrounding aspects of change management within their

contexts should be done in order to arrive at effective strategies

that are not only planned but also actualized.
