Der volle Inhalt der QuelleSpatialization, open form, repetitive music, music-theatre, serialism, dodecaphonism, diatonicism, chromatism, fractal geometry, electroacoustic and sound explorations of concrete music, alliance music-science-technology, stylistic multiplicity, are altogether the key notions that characterise the musical and aesthetic orientation of Portuguese music during the nineties. These concepts are illustrated by examples drawn from the work list of four composers and then exemplified by analyses of four piano pieces : "Mirrors", by António Pinho Vargas, "Réitérations", by João Rafael, "Pirâmides de cristal", by João Pedro Oliveira and "Estudos de sonoridades", by Filipe Pires. Issues on interpretation are also raised. Using the notion of musical gesture, the present study confronts musical interpretation and analytical interpretation, as discussed in the postscript. This reflexion resulted from the establishment of a new association, that ultimately made this work possible - from performance to analysis - or else - from analysis to interpretation

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis work attempts to understand the state of the individual in the contemporaneous capitalistic world through an analysis and a criticism of the theme of the fall of the individual in theodor w. Adorno's and max horkheimer's productions. The author seeks and then discards the presuppositions which govern the theorization of this theme in the last mentioned philosophers' works. This endeavour occupies the first three parts. The first, entitled "tact and aura", opposes adorno and walter benjamin: it describes some elementary structures of bourgeois individuality on the way to "liquidation" and measures the difference which separates adorno's and benjamin's theorizations about history and society. The second, entitled "coldness and exuberance", proposes, against the naturalistic interpretation of the coldness suggested by adorno, a social explanation of its appearance rested on the survey of exuberance in the "savage" society. The third, entitled "between nature and history: where must be thought the appearance and the fall of the individual?", undertakes to elucidate the philosophical grounds of the intellectual constellation where adorno and horkheimer conceive the fall of the individual and to break with them by delineating the outline of an other theoretical frame. The last one, entitled "the fall of the individual, subject and person", states the theme in its new frame. It ends in a complete historicization of the category of individual and concludes that it will be necessary to attempt a true historical inquiry about the double birth of the individual in antique Greece and in renaissance

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleMy PhD was initiated in the framework of the GRAVITY instrument, whose first light is expected for 2014 at VLTI. GRAVITY will combine up to four telescopes in the K spectral band, and provide astrometric measurements with precision and sensitivity unequalled in infrared interferometry. I developed the algorithms of the GRAVITY fringe tracker, which will stabilize the optical path differences down to 350nm rms on a reference star as faint as K=10, and enable long exposure in the science beam. In this goal I implemented robust estimators, a predictive controller based on Kalman filtering, and a state machine automating the management of the fringe tracker. Through realistic numerical simulations of différent disturbance sources, I demonstrated that the Kalman controller is more efficient than classical controllers (integrator-type) to correct perturbations, especially instrumental vibrations, and that it enables to reach the specifications of the GRAVITY fringe tracker. I developed a laboratory demonstrator of the GRAVITY fringe tracker, to experimentally validate its algorithms. First results confirm their ability to stabilize fringes, and demonstrate the efficiency of the Kalman filter to compensate for an instrumental vibration over an integrator controller. Finally, I studied the Vela X-l X-ray binary, preliminary to the installation of GRAVITY. I performed infrared interferometric observations of this System and measured a stellar wind with different sizes in the H and K spectral bands, revealing either a strong temperature gradient in the stellar wind, or transient events in the accretion process

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe aim of this thesis is to build an ontology of the string quartet. The designation ‘string quartet’ can refer to three different meanings: a group of four musical instruments (formation), a genre, or a group of four musicians who play together. In musicology, a string quartet is distinguished by the homogeneity of the timbres, the individuality of voices, the quaternity and the specific dialogism of the voices. This work proposes to describe these three semantic levels and their essential characteristics, hence a wide selected corpus: Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Reicha, Bartók, Schönberg, Feldman, F.Baschet amongst others. The first part consists of an ontology of the instrument formation and shows that a quartet is a “structure of performing means” which became autonomous with regard to the “pure structure” as defined by Jerrold Levinson. From that point of view, the string quartet is a reliable paradigm to think of the birth of other formations and their historical developments. The second part consists in constructing an ontology of the genre and demonstrates that the historical evolution of the string quartet is not paradigmatic but exemplary; and that its development is determined by a balance between plasticity and crystallisation. The final part examines the ontological limits of the string quartet: on the one hand, the timbre, and on the other, the musicians’ bodies through specific physical gestures. This thesis, therefore, aims to develop an ontological system that is characterised by its different essential elements, its specific rules (plasticity versus crystallisation), and its limits. These philosophical analyses not only relate to existing musicological research, but also involve a consideration of dance performance, film and various other artistic works

His original compositions mark decisive stages of his career (Sites auriculaires, Ma mère l'Oye, Frontispice); moreover, piano versions of his orchestral works (Scheherazade, Rhapsodie espagnole, la Valse, "Fanfare" from l'éventail de Jeanne, Bolero) are very revealing in terms of his creative processes. His adaptations of Claude Debussy’s nocturnes and the prelude to the Afternoon of a faun shed light as well on the originality and power of his abilities in transcribing. The quality of these scores has allowed them to attain fully independent stature, particularly in the case of the two-piano version of la Valse. The present study attempts to establish ravel's contribution to the realm of specifically pianistic textures in four-hand or two-piano music. It offers an examination of the historical background and defines the role of four-hand piano playing in the composer's life. Ravel's activities, his musical preferences, his artistic relationships and his creative mind are thus presented from a new angle. French repertory from the era is brought to light using an analytical plan based on the converging of the specific parameters in each type of instrumentation

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe sudden emergence of culture in its multiple shapes results in placing man at the heart of society's problems and thereby at the heart of what training should be: which kind of man should school and university train, given that the world's complexity is reflected in the increasing diversity of learners? The manifold features of teaching or training situations have just been factored in, mostly through language didactics, a new research field of human sciences, with a specific focus on teaching French as a second language. Understanding the language and the culture of others as well as being able to communicate should make for the transmission of human values and experiences. "Intercultural skills" are more and more mentioned. They imply a frame of mind that is conducive to speakers thinking about their own culture and identity and analysing such notions as representativeness, stereotype , identity and otherness. How can people be trained to such skills, given that they are learnt over time and advocate uncertainty and questioning as their core features?The literatures of exiled French-writing novelists who have changed languages to write display all the characteristics of linguistic and cultural diversity: they write about change, in-betweeness, they have asked themselves -especially in their autobiographies- on the vital consequences of language and location change: four autobiographical works, /Nord perdu/ by Nancy Huston, /Paris-Athènes/ by Vassilis Alexakis, /L’analphabète /by Agota Kristof and /Quatre mille marches/ by Ying Chen, will be approached through such an identity-related approach and the choice of linguistice diversity; learning and speaking the language of others poses an overriding challenge, writing the language of others; when exile fosters off-centre thinking, it also prompts creative distance, prodded by questioning ; in this respect their works are genuine "intercultural literary writings" to be studied as part of linguistic studies. Cutting across languages, whether native, second or foreign, such works, might make up some core cross-curriculum base for intercultural studies. Re-introducing literature in studies might, at last, give such writings the role of cultural and intercultural medium

Our hypothesis, based on expectation theory, was that a normal distribution, but learning theory and applied linguistics impose their own logic wherely other expectations are revealed. In fact, we expect to find in the beginners' textbooks a common vocabulary presented at a controlled rate, having a high rate of repetition and, of course, a high convergence regarding word choice int he composition of the books. This lexical study focusses mainly on lexical variety, the spread of words of high frequency, and the mathematical distance between the books

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe capacity to quantify molecular orientational order in tissues is of a great interest since pathologies (skin lesion, neurodegenerative diseases, etc) can induce strong modifications in proteins’ organization. While numerous studies have been undertaken using polarization resolved second order nonlinear optical microscopy which is only specific to non-centrosymmetric organizations, higher order effects have been less explored. Four-wave mixing (FWM) microscopy and its resonant counterpart coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) can be of a great utility as label free diagnosis tools benefiting from less constraining symmetry rules. In this work, we implement incident polarizations tuning in FWM and CARS microscopy to probe molecular order, using a generic method to read-out symmetry information.Fourier analysis of the polarization-resolved FWM/CARS signal processed with an analytical model provides a fast and direct determination of the symmetry orders of the distribution function of the probed molecules. This method does not require a priori knowledge of the organization structure and provides quantitatively its second and fourth order symmetries. We applied this technique on different systems, from crystalline to less organized (multilamellar vesicles and proteins aggregates). We show that this new approach brings additional and more refined information on supra-molecular structures in complex media

Using a set of statistical techniques and applications, based on the so-called “multilevel” modelling, this thesis deals with different aspects related to the statistical methodology and applications as per health economics and public health.The first part reconsiders the evolution of methodology, starting from the simple linear regression techniques to the more complex multilevel modelling as applied to both the linear and non-linear relations. It addresses issues related to the historical development, the hypotheses, the strategy of analysis, and the scope of applications. The second part presents two distinct multilevel studies. The first concerns the determinants of observance and interruptions of treatment for persons infected by the HIV/AIDS and treated with antiretroviral in Cameroon. The second one focuses on the use of dental services for the elderly. The two studies are methodologically comparable in that, besides integrating the usually retained individual variables, the analyses examine health seeking behaviours, particularly, the utilisation of health care services, while accounting for contextual determinants such as the characteristics of health supply (clinic, department or region).The third part is dedicated to the applications on GPs' panel and contains two different studies. The first one explains the GPs’ behaviours and the role of their aprioris vis-à-vis Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG), and suggests solutions to overcome their negative attitudes. The second study analyses the similarity – sometimes the differences – between the cycle of GPs’ activity and the seasonality of epidemics with the aim of better understanding determinants favouring the adjustment of the GP in the seasonal variations of the patients needs. This study helps anticipate and manage situations of sanitary crisis, with the effective support of general practitioners

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe development of new optical sources is essential for spectroscopy and related applications : pollutant detection or optical diagnostics of reactive media. For such applications, various researches are conducted to provide optical sources that are tunable in the mid infrared domain because most of pollutants (COx, NOx, …) absorb in this spectral region. The aim of the study is twofold: realisation and characterisation of a single longitudinal mode Doubly Resonant Optical Parametric Oscillator (DROPO) tunable over the 3. 5µm-4. 5 µm spectral range and realisation of an optical bench for high repetition rate non linear spectroscopy. The study begins with the development of an entangled cavity DROPO pumped by a high repetition rate (10 kHz) Nd :YAG laser. Modeling the dynamic behavior of the DROPO shows that the performances of the source can be enhanced by adding a pump beam reflection, which is controlled in phase and in amplitude. The mid-infrared emitted radiation is single longitudinal mode (< 100 MHz) and continuously tunable over a large domain (120 GHz). Next, the DROPO is integrated in a compact optical bench (60 cm ´ 60 cm) in order to increase the available energy in the mid infrared domain while maintaining the spatial and spectral qualities of the beam. This bench is composed of a multipass laser amplifier, the DROPO and an Optical Parametric Amplifier (OPA). The optical bench delivers a 3-kW peak-power mid-IR beam. Finally, the source is implemented for low pressure absorption spectroscopy of N2O around 3,9 µm

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleWhy representing human being by artificial being? That is what do performing arts which stage Pinocchio, artificial being who metamorphoses himself into a human being. This puppet character raises the issue of manipulation in the initiation into mankind. This thesis delimits the problem by showing that Pinocchio is a hybrid being, both human and artificial. The analyses of the original character in Pinocchio’s Adventures of C. Collodi (part 1) and of four of its adaptations (by Disney, Spielberg, Bene and Cagnard: part 2) try to bring to light the existence of this hybridity, which appears seminal in order to express the human being in sciencefiction movies and in puppet theater. These adaptations raise the problem of manipulation in a different manner. Movies realize adaptations of Pinocchio who lose their artificiality to become human, while theater creates ones that are not transformed into human being, the character persevering in its artificiality. These two occurrences show that initiation into human being implies the discovery of the link between human and artificial. They ask the following question: can human beings manipulate the artificial or do they have to compose with it? The answer to this question is about poetics and not of moral or scientific order, because the conflict between artificial and human does not only concern reality. Reality meets dreams and fantasies. It follows that the character obeys a hybrid poetics (part 3) which mixes the rules of plastic art and those of the narrative. Pinocchio offers to the spectator the experience of a strange hybridity that gives him access to the invention of his singularity

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleFour-wave mixing is a phase-sensitive nonlinear effect that arouses interest, particularly in the fields of frequency comb generation and all-optical signal processing. As an example, frequency combs can be produced thanks to a cascaded four-wave mixing process. In this case, N waves can interact with each other through the optical Kerr effect, and one has to take into account all the possible interactions to be able to adequately model the process. During my PhD thesis, I was interested in modeling the so-called multiple four-wave mixing process, in which any number N of waves can interact with each other. I proposed a general formulation that allows to easily identify all the four-wave mixing terms originating from all the possible combinations of wave coupling and their associated phase-mismatch terms. I validated this approach through the theoretical and experimental study of a multiple four-wave mixing process in a nonlinear optical fiber. Thanks to the developed model, I then proposed a theoretical study of the phase-sensitive frequency conversion process, which permits to demultiplex the quadrature components of an optical signal. In the literature, this process was first experimentally demonstrated in several nonlinear devices using four pump waves. I demonstrated that only three pump waves were required to successfully perform the experiment, and I determined the simple analytical relations from which the adequate experimental parameters (namely, the amplitudes and phases of the pump waves) could be deduced. I finally validated this study by experimentally demonstrating a phase-sensitive frequency conversion process with only three pump waves, and I theoretically studied the influence of chromatic dispersion on the performance of this frequency converter. Finally, I characterized some chalcogenide microstructured optical fibers that were fabricated in the framework of a collaboration with Perfos, the Institut des Sciences Chimiques de Rennes, and SelenOptics. I set up a test bench based on the four-wave mixing process in order to measure the chromatic dispersion and nonlinear coefficient of some optical fibers

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis project of research - creation is born from the desire to make intelligeble the logic of the birth of the movement such as the dancer feels it. The birth of the dance movement works with the birth of ideas. How do the physical materials give birth to ideas? How can the ideas produce physical materials? To answer these questions, the experiences of the choreographer dancer are analyzed during the process of a creation on the four elements. The work on the element « Earth » clarifies the relationship between the dancer and gravity. It is the emotional dimension of gravity's effects which triggers each of the movements of the choreography. The work on the element « Air » examines the question of the kinesthetic empathy. A dance is offered which is not to be looked at any more but listened to. The emotional state of the sick body is the raw material of the work on the element « Fire ». The analysis of the way in which society behaves in front of the strangeness of this body brings to light the theoretical violence which is inflicted on the emotional flesh. A choreography attempts to give back a voice to this emotional body. From the experience of the weightlessness such as lived in the water, the work on the element « Water » advances towards the realization of a videography which expresses the intimate and vertiginous experience of the body melting with the water. This first stage of the work, descriptive and experimental, enables a specific method to be established: «the intimate look», which searches in the depths of the sensitive layers of the body and which gives up the concepts inherited from the outside the world. The second section of the work relies on this look to describe the experience which the dancer has of the spatiality and temporality. Through the fold, the dancer looks inwards and feels the interior space. This inward look is also a further recall of past experiences. Dance lives in this intimate past. In the heart of this intimacy, the dynamics which bind the impulse of the flesh to the impulse of the mind can then be described. The creations are presented during the defense and reveal these dynamics
