En 65-årig comorbid mand med flere dages anamnese af diarré samt nedsat muskelkraft, blev efter en faldepisode indlagt på akutmodtagelsen. Han var i forvejen kendt med blandt andet kronisk nefropati og i behandling med medicin, der vides at kunne påvirke nyrefunktionen samt medføre hyperkaliæmi.På baggrund af kombinationen af polyfarmaci, bestående nyresygdom og diarré udviklede patienten akut nyresvigt med svær hyperkaliæmi og hjertepåvirkning til følge.Casen illustrerer, hvordan polyfarmaceutisk behandling af comorbide patienter nemt kan tage en uheldig drejning, og hvor vigtigt det er, at der passes ekstra godt på disse patienter.

Le trait et le potentiel de procrastination sont étudiés conjointement pour mieux comprendre les facteurs individuels et situationnels à l'origine du report d'achat. La procrastination du consommateur saisit la tendance individuelle au report d'achat alors que le potentiel de procrastination reflète les facteurs situationnels susceptibles de créer un report d'achat. Une échelle en quatre items est développée pour mesurer le trait de procrastination du consommateur (ETPC). Un design expérimental 2 × 2 × 2 est construit pour montrer les effets directs et indirects sur le report d'achat, du trait de procrastination, du potentiel de procrastination et de la nature du produit. Trois résultats principaux sont présentés. Un score élevé de ETPC prédit le report d'achat. Une situation à fort potentiel de procrastination augmente la probabilité de report d'achat. Cependant le potentiel de procrastination exerce un rôle modérateur entre le trait de procrastination et le report d'achat: une situation à faible potentiel de procrastination réduit la probabilité de report d'achat seulement auprès des non-procrastinateurs.

Dans cet article, nous avons pour but de discuter des relations entre langage et travail, en focalisant sur le rôle potentiellement formatif des genres textuels dans le contexte du travail d’enseignement. Nous présenterons les genres qui circulent dans les situations de travail enseignant et ceux qui peuvent être produits à des buts formatifs, en distinguant ceux qui circulent dans la sphère de travail ceux qui ont un potentiel d’apprentissage et/ou de développement. Notre étude se base sur l’orientation épistémologique de l’Interactionnisme Social et se sert de trois cadres théoriques : celui de l’Interactionnisme Socio-discursif, d’une part ; et ceux de la Clinique de l’Activité et de l’Ergonomie de l’Activité des Professionnels de l’Education, d’autre part. Nous montrerons, de manière spécifique, une analyse d’une auto-confrontation et nous discuterons de son potentiel pour le développement des enseignants et pour la formation. Nous discuterons ainsi du rôle des verbalisations sur la situation de travail dans le processus de formation de l’enseignant, à travers des genres produits en situation de travail qui constituent une activité symbolique dans laquelle le langage devient un instrument de formation et de développement.

RésuméCet article porte sur l’intégration pédagogique de la vidéocommunication dans une perspective de la formation des maîtres. Puisque la scénarisation pédagogique suppose des choix de formules pédagogiques selon leur potentiel d’interactivité, ce potentiel a été étudié dans une situation de formation universitaire intégrant la vidéocommunication. Une analyse qualitative a permis de dégager les résultats suivants : la vidéocommunication est perçue comme ayant un bon potentiel d’interactivité pédagogique; pour toutes les formules utilisées, d’une importance du processus de préparation est primordiale, et il inclut des plans de remplacement pour contrer les problèmes techniques.

Cet article porte sur un dispositif de groupe d’analyse de la pratique coconstruit dans le cadre d’une recherche collaborative menée avec des intervenantes et des intervenants sociaux de proximité de milieux communautaires et de centres de pédiatrie sociale en communauté à Montréal. Levier médiateur pour rapprocher recherche-pratique, ce dispositif a permis de prendre des situations d’intervention complexes comme point de départ d’une compréhension sociologique de l’intervention avec les familles en situation de vulnérabilité. L’article offre un aperçu du déroulement de ce groupe d’analyse de la pratique et des savoirs qu’il a permis de coproduire. D’une part, la présentation d’une des situations complexes co-analysées met en lumière la réflexivité des personnes participantes et le potentiel de cet espace groupal pour enrichir le sens des situations et de leur pratique. D’autre part, l’explicitation d’une convention de pratique au fondement de l’organisation hiérarchique de ce monde social, à savoir « la primauté de l’évaluation diagnostique », permet d’appréhender la marginalisation des acteurs au plus près des enfants et de leur famille en situation de vulnérabilité.

Divers informateurs clés oeuvrant sur le terrain sont de plus en plus interpellés par la situation de femmes immigrantes vivant ou menacées d’un mariage forcé à Montréal. À partir d’un cadre théorique intersectionnel et au vu de données empiriques, cet article propose de distinguer des indices laissant présager autant un « danger » potentiel lié au mariage forcé qu’un risque d’être mariée de force, et permettant éventuellement de les identifier. Ces situations devraient permettre de concevoir une intervention interculturelle adaptée, voire spécifique auprès de femmes immigrantes sous l’emprise d’un phénomène complexe et multidimensionnel.

Au Québec, la forêt boréale est de plus en plus utilisée pour ses ressources naturelles et comme territoire de loisir. En raison du caractère isolé et parfois difficile de cet environnement, des situations critiques peuvent occasionnellement conduire des personnes à vivre un séjour prolongé en état de grande précarité, notamment sans autres moyens de subsistance que les ressources naturelles disponibles. Dans ce contexte, l’objectif de la présente étude est de proposer une méthode visant à quantifier le potentiel d’utilité effective d’un groupe d’espèces pouvant fournir une source d’alimentation de fortune à des victimes de situations de survie, et ainsi contribuer au maintien de leurs fonctions vitales. Ce potentiel a été établi grâce à une analyse multicritère de la répartition spatiale de la flore, de sa disponibilité temporelle, de son accessibilité physique, de sa valeur calorique et de son acceptabilité gustative. À terme, la connaissance du potentiel de ces espèces pourra être utilisée dans un contexte de formation des travailleurs et de sensibilisation des usagers de la forêt boréale au regard de l’usage réel qui peut être fait de la flore en contexte de survie; usage qui apparaît relativement limité au regard des espèces analysées.

Si les recherches ont établi la validité prédictive des centres d'évaluation (CE) dans le domaine du recrutement, leur validité de construit n'a pas été démontrée. Dans notre recherche, nous tentons de mettre en place une procédure permettant de mettre à l'épreuve la validité de construit et la validité prédictive de notre CE sur une population de 125 officiers de Marine. Cette procédure comprend l'évaluation de l'efficience mentale (habiletés spécifiques et facteur g), de la personnalité (Cinq Grands), et de dimensions spécifiques à des épreuves de mise en situation (jeu de rôle, in basket, entretien structuré, épreuve de groupe évaluées grâce à des grilles comportementales). En premier lieu, des analyses factorielles exploratoires sont conduites pour identifier des dimensions spécifiques à ces épreuves de mise en situation. Dans une perspective nomologique, nous étudierons également les liens entre ces dimensions et les scores obtenus aux échelles de personnalité et d'intelligence. Dans une deuxième partie, nous étudions les liens entre nos prédicteurs et un critère de performance ultérieur évalué en moyenne quatre ans après. Les résultats montrent que le facteur "Conscience" ainsi que les aptitudes verbales sont significativement liés à la réussite professionnelle. Les dimensions "Initiative" et "travail en équipe" de l'épreuve de groupe ainsi que la dimension "Délégation et contrôle" de l'épreuve in basket apportent une variance expliquée spécifique par rapport à l'utilisation des variables d'intelligence et de personnalité. Nos résultats suggèrent que le CE appréhende à la fois des variables dispositionnelles et des compétences spécifiques
Although research has established the criterion-related validity of assessment centres (AC) for selection purpose, their construct validity has not be demonstrated. This study is an attempt in AC research to apply both construct and criterion validation strategies to a sample of 125 military officers. The selection procedure assessed cognitive ability (specific abilities and g factor), personality (Big Five factors), and dimensions measured by four AC exercices (role play, in basket, group discussion, structured interview assessed with behavioral checklists). First, exploratory factor analyses were conducted to establish construct validity of the different exercices. In a nomological perspective, we also analysed the links between the exercices dimensions, personality inventories and intelligence scales. A second part of our work analysed the hypothetical links between predictors and performance criteria, assessed four years later (on average). Results show that the factors Conscientiousness and verbal abilities were significantly related to work performance. The dimensions of "Initiative" and "Teamwork" as measured by a group discussion and the dimension "Control and delegation" as measured by a basket exercise provided incremental variance in job performance, beyond cognitive ability and personality. The findings suggest that AC shows both validity generalisation and situational specificity

La réalité clinique que nous rencontrons dans un cadre psychanalytique classique ou lors desséances psychanalytiques nous amène, souvent en premier-plan, des moments où les patientsutilisent ce cadre comme un instrument de construction, une construction qui se réalise dans lenégatif de la relation avec le psychanalyste, comme une tentative de recréer la « formeoriginaire ». Il s’agit des moments dans lesquels le patient amène dans la situation analytique desformes de manifestation des expériences archaïques ou du potentiel traumatique, des formesappartenant à un espace-temps non psychisé, potentiel, un temps qui garde l’actualité de sesexpressions suite à un manque traitement, d’élaboration de ses contenus.J’ai commencé en partant des deux hypothèses suivantes :L’apparition violente des éléments archaïques ou celle du potentiel traumatique dans la situationanalytique représente une forme de manifestation de l’actuel, qui n’a pas la forme élaborée d’unemétaphore, ni la forme primaire de la représentation, mais une forme archaïque, inaccessible à lapsychisation, dans une forme semblable à la présentation, Darstellung, qui aspire à la représentation,c’est-à-dire à une transformation dans une forme accessible aux processus primairesd’élaboration.Au moment où les expériences archaïques et le potentiel traumatique pénètrent violemment lasituation analytique avec des réalités archaïques en répétant un actuel qui est en dehors du tempspsychique de celui des patients, ceux-là ils veulent vivre et se trouver un Ici et Maintenant.Chacun des cas présentés dans cette thèse représente des expériences qui ont tout d'aborddémarrées de l'exploration du potentiel de chaque situation clinique à part. Le cadrepsychanalytique, le cadre de l'analyse avec les enfants institutionnalisés ou le cadre desconsultations psychanalytiques avec les couples mère-enfant offrent une potentialité spatiotemporelledans laquelle la dynamique relationnelle bénéficie d'un espace et temps desexpressions flottantes et associatives. Ce processus de la libre dynamique des contenus amenéspar les patients et celle des formes dont je les ai reçues et élaborées ces contenus ont représentél'accès à cette expérience d'ici et maintenant qui nous a porté vers ce qui a finalement représentéla solution de sortie de l'impasse et celle de continuer les processus de transformation
The clinical situations we encounter within the classic psychoanalytical setting during thepsychoanalytic sessions bring us, often in foreground, moments when the patients use the settingas a construction tool, a construction that is developed in the negative of the relationship betweenthe patient and the psychoanalyst, as an attempt to recreate the "original shape". These are themoments in which the patient brings within the analytic situation different forms of expression ofthe archaic experiences or of the traumatic potential, forms coming from a space-time nonintegrated,a time that keeps the actuality of his expressions due to an not-enough elaboration ofits contents.I started on the basis of the following hypothesis:The violent appearance of the archaic elements or of the traumatic potential within the analyticsituation is a form of manifestation of the actual, which has not been developed the form of ametaphor, nor the primary form of representation, but an archaic form, inaccessible to thesymbolization process, in a shape similar to the presentation, Darstellung, which aspires to representation,that is to say, to a transformation in a form accessible to the primary developmentalprocesses.. When the archaic experiences and traumatic potential violently penetrate the analytic situationwith archaic realities repeating an actual that is outside of the psychic time of the patients, thosethey want to live and be a Here and Now.6 Each of the cases presented in this thesis represents experiences that first started to explore thepotential of each clinical situation at hand. The psychoanalytic setting, the setting of the analysiswith institutionalized children or the setting of the psychoanalytic consultations with the motherchildcouples, offer a spatiotemporal potentiality in which the relational dynamics benefit from aspace and time in a floating and associative expression. This process of free dynamic contentbrought by patients together with the forms in which I have received and developed such contentopened the access to the experience of the here and now, bringing us to what eventuallyrepresented the solution exit from the impasse and that continue the developing andtransformation process

Les dépôts lacustres font l'objet d'études approfondies car ils sont propices à l’enregistrement des modifications de nombreux facteurs environnementaux (changement climatique, modification du couvert végétal…), et également car ils renferment des ressources en matière première de toute première importance. Cependant, les reconstructions chronostratigraphiques dans ces contextes sont généralement entravées par la rareté des données permettant d’établir l'âge des dépôts de manière continue. L'objectif principal de ce projet de thèse est d'examiner les avantages et les limites de la datation au carbonate U-Pb (LA-ICPMS) (méthode LAcarb) comme un nouvel outil chronostratigraphique pour les dépôts lacustres. Le deuxième objectif est d'étudier plus précisément le potentiel de datation de la méthode en analysant sa capacité à établir un âge avec résolution temporelle pertinente en fonction des différents types de carbonates et de minéralogies. Pour atteindre ces objectifs, plusieurs phases carbonatées (microbialites, ooides, oncoides) et ciments diagenétiques ont été collectés dans deux exemples lacustres fossiles ayant un âge absolu relativement bien établit: le Miocène du bassin du cratère Ries (SW Allemagne) et la formation Yacoraite (Crétacé-Paléogène) du bassin de Salta (NW de l'Argentine). Une étude sédimentologique et diagenétique s’appuyant sur des analyses pétrographiques et des isotopes stables de l’oxygène (O) de du carbone (C), a permis de sélectionner les phases carbonatées les plus précoces. Ce travail a été réalisé afin de maximiser les chances d’avoir préservé la composition géochimique originelle en U-Pb des fluides en présence lors du dépôt. Dans le bassin du cratère Ries, la méthode LAcarb a fourni des âges précis qui ont permis des corrélations chronostratigraphiques à une résolution temporelle de l’ordre de la séquence stratigraphique du 3e ordre (0,5 à 5 Ma). Dans le cadre de la formation Yacoraite, deux modèles d'âge ont été obtenus le long d'une coupe stratigraphique de référence. L'un est dérivé de la géochronologie des zircons extraits des dépôts de cendre volcaniques intercalés dans la formation Yacoraite (modèle d'âge maximum des dépôts; MDA). Le second est dérivé de la méthode LAcarb (modèle d'âge minimum des dépôts; MIDA). Les deux modèles se superposent remarquablement et permettent de décrire une même dynamique des taux de sédimentation avec une résolution temporelle d'environ 0,9 à 2% (2σ). L'âge des dépôts révisé pour la formation Yacoraite a ensuite été intégré dans un modèle chronostratigraphique combinant les données biostratigraphiques, hemiostratigraphiques et magnétostratigraphiques issues de la littérature. La localisation de la limite Crétacé-Paléogène (KPg) a bien été confortée dans la formation Yacoraite. De plus, la révision des âges de la partie sommitale de la formation Yacoraite a également permis de valider la localisation des deux phases hyperthermiques du Paléocène-Éocène (Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum: PETM, et l’optimum climatique de l’Eocène; EECO) dans les deux formations sus-jacentes. Une analyse statistique a ensuite été réalisée sur la base des âges de 80 phases carbonatées de la formation Yacoraite. Les microbialites ont fourni les plus faibles succès en potentiel de datation (41 % d'âges cohérents avec le modèle MDA) ainsi que les plus basses précisions concernant l'âge (2σ <10 %). A l’inverse, les ciments lacustres ont été couronnés des meilleurs potentiels de datation (64 % d'âges cohérents avec le modèle MDA) avec des âges de meilleure précision. De plus, les phases dominées par la calcite ont généralement fourni des âges plus précis que les phases dolomitiques. Les avancées concernant les potentialités et les limites associées à la méthode LAcarb ont ainsi permis de proposer au travers de cette thèse une méthode complète pour construire un modèle d'âge robuste des dépôts en milieu lacustre. Lacustrine deposits are extensively investigated because they play a pivotal role as environmental recorders and host valuable economic resources. However, chronostratigraphic reconstructions in these settings are usually hampered by the scarcity of data required to establish the depositional age of the system. The prime objective of this PhD project was examining benefits and limitations of carbonate U-Pb (LA-ICPMS) dating (LAcarb) as new chronostratigraphic tool for lacustrine deposits. The second objective was to investigate the dating potential, in terms of dating success and time resolution, of various carbonate types and mineralogies with the aim to better organize future LAcarb based research. To achieve these goals, depositional (microbialites, ooids, oncoids) and early diagenetic carbonate phases of known absolute age were collected from two lacustrine settings: the Ries Crater basin (Miocene, SW Germany) and the Yacoraite formation (Fm.) from the Salta rift basin (Cretaceous-Paleogene, NW Argentina). A sedimentologic and diagenetic study based on petrography and Oxygen (O) and Carbon (C) stable isotope analysis allowed to select carbonate phases that most possibly preserved the pristine U-Pb geochemical composition and consequently inform on the timing of deposition. In the Ries Crater basin, LAcarb provided accurate ages that allowed chronostratigraphic correlations at a time resolution of the 3rd order stratigraphic sequence (0.5–5Ma). In the framework of the Yacoraite Fm., two depositional age depth model were obtained along a stratigraphic section. One derived from zircon (ash layer) geochronology (maximum depositional age depth model; MDA depth model) and the other from LAcarb (minimum depositional age depth model; MIDA depth model). The two models remarkably overlap and describe the same sedimentation rate dynamic with a time resolution between 0.9 and 2% (2σ). The revised depositional age of the Yacoraite Fm. was then integrated in a chronostratigraphic model merging biostratigraphic, chemostratigraphy and magnetostratigraphy data from literature. Accordingly, the KPg limit was interpreted to be located in the Yacoraite Fm. whereas the two Paleocene-Eocene hyperthermals (Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum, PETM; early Eocene Climate Optimum, EECO) were identified in the two overlying formations. A statistical analysis was achieved based on the ages of 80 carbonate phases from the Yacoraite Fm. Microbialites provided the lowest dating success (41% ages consistent with the MDA depth model) and age precision (2σ < 10%) in contrast with lacustrine cements that yielded the highest dating success (64% ages consistent with MDA depth model) and age precision (2σ < 3%). Furthermore, calcitic phases usually provided more precise ages than dolomitic phases. The better comprehension of potentialities and limitations of LAcarb acquired in this PhD allowed to propose a workflow to build a robust depositional age depth model in lacustrine settings. Three possible perspective scenarios were introduced: 1) the study of the Ries Crater basin as analogue of paleolakes on Mars; 2) the use of LAcarb to select pristine carbonates for chronostratigraphic studies; and 3) basin scale chronostratigraphic correlations in the Yacoraite Fm

Nous l'interrogeons ici sous l'angle d'une recherche qualitative visant à comprendre dans quelle mesure le dispositif actuel de conseil pédagogique contribue au développement professionnel de professeurs débutants du primaire. Plus précisément, nous étudions, dans le cadre conceptuel de la didactique professionnelle, les cheminements des conclusions formulées au cours d'un entretien-conseil, de leur formulation jusqu'à leur transformation potentielle en compétences professionnelles. Cette recherche, en utilisant des références dans les théories de l'analyse interactionniste du discours et des activités cognitives de raisonnement et de problématisation, étudie de façon longitudinale l'accompagnement dans trois dyades enseignant débutant – conseiller pédagogique sur une année scolaire. In the socio-economic context of the beginning of the 21st century, education remains a major societal issue. In this regard, the matter of teacher training, and more specifically that of supporting novices as they go into the profession, seems central. Here, we approach it from the perspective of a qualitative investigation aiming to understand the extent to which the current system of educational advice contributes to the professional development of novice primary school teachers. More specifically, within the conceptual framework of professional didactics, we study the progress of the conclusions drawn in the course of a counselling interview, from the moment they are drawn until the time they are potentially transformed into professional skills. Using references from the theories of interactionist analysis of speech and cognitive activities of reasoning and problematizing, this research examines longitudinally the way support is provided in three novice teacher – educational adviser dyads over the course of a school year. Within the boundaries of our corpus, it leads to the uncovering of results about : 1) the nature of the conclusions drawn during the course of the counselling interviews ; 2) the processes and difficulties that lead up to the drawing of the conclusions ; 3) the evolution of the conclusions formulated in the following interviews ; 4) the consequences of the system of educational advice on the professional development of novices ; 5) the minimal conditions necessary for the support to be a potential situation of professional development

Currently there is disagreement on the best tools for measuring situation awareness (SA) as well as the nature of the processes that underlie it. The current project examined the intrusiveness of two commonly used techniques, the Situation Awareness Global Assessment Technique (SAGAT) and the Situation Present Assessment Method (SPAM), on operator SA, workload, and performance by manipulating the key features distinguishing the techniques—whether displays remain visible and whether scenarios are paused. The results indicated that both factors affect operator SA, workload, and performance. We also found that the intrusiveness associated with blanking displays and not pausing scenarios depended on the type of information being queried. Specifically, making information more difficult to access from external displays had a more negative effect on the ability to answer queries pertaining to specific aircraft as opposed to general sector characteristics. These results support the Situated SA approach, which holds that operators often off-load information to their environment to limit what they must store internally.

The monograph, on the one hand, examines the period of development of the descending cycle of evolution and the associated progressive changes that show the irreversibility of the processes of formation of the planetary system. The end of one cycle and the beginning of another leads to the transformation of the system of life and the expansion of consciousness at a new energy level. On the other hand, the questions of potential opportunities for the development of the ascending phase of evolution, which goes both along the path of complexity of the organization and along the path of diversity, are considered. In the ascending evolutionary stream, what has been differentiated into the corresponding levels in the descending cycle is brought together and thus prepared to enter into new, more perfect forms of unity. It is shown that the development of humanity along its entire path depends on the interaction of energies of various forms and potentials. Understanding the relationships between different types of energy and their use provides insight into many important issues in the evolution of society. The material introduces the modern features of the existence of the male and female sexes from the energy point of view. The idea of a way out of the current conflict situation that has arisen between the sexes at the present stage of evolution is proposed. It will be useful for those interested in the problems of scientific knowledge, architects, philosophers,historians, physicists and methodologists of science, students and students of secondary schools.

In anesthesia, situation awareness (SA) represents the degree to which an anesthetist perceives the information in her or his environment, comprehends the patient’s situation, and projects the patient’s situation into the future. There are three levels of SA: perception, comprehension, and projection. After perception, basic information has to be integrated, and several cognitive mechanisms enable correct, complete, and quick development of SA. These processes require long-term memory content such as mental models, similar (prototypical) situations that have been experienced earlier, automaticity, and medical knowledge including guidelines and algorithms. Several tools have the potential to provide qualitative and quantitative assessment of SA in anesthesia, including goal-directed task analysis (GDTA) and SA error taxonomy. In this chapter, the role of SA in anesthesia is illustrated, and factors are described that have the potential for either enhancing or hindering the development of adequate SA.

AbstractEvery day we are making decisions, both in our personal and professional lives. These decisions range from choices regarding our mode of transport to our daily grocery shopping, and from investment decisions to choices about marketing strategies. Today, for each of these decisions, we can rely on a wide range of information sources and tools to aid us in these decision-making processes. Spurred on by technical developments and economic incentives, information has become a common commodity in our society. When confronted with a crisis, we find ourselves in an unexpected and unknown situation in which quick action is needed to remedy the situation or prevent escalation. In such cases, information plays a vital role, for example, in assessing our options and reducing uncertainty. Information allows decision makers to assess the situation, evaluate alternatives, and coordinate efforts between different stakeholders, for example. The phrase “information saves lives,” commonly uttered in crisis responses, exemplifies this importance. Neverheless, existing approaches to getting information may no longer be sufficient, reliable, or even accessible. A crisis therefore requires all stakeholders, from formal responders to affected citzens, to quickly re-design their information flows using an effective organization of people, technology, processes, and sources.

AbstractThis design case offers a response to the pandemic crisis that cuts across pedagogical, technological, disciplinary, and administrative boundaries within a university in an effort to foment mutual learning and change. A team of five faculty from different disciplines joined forces to imagine a new online course that could contribute to novel educational redesigns. Titled “The Future of Learning at JMU,” the course was sponsored by the university administration and presented innovative ideas to key stakeholders across the institution. Undergraduate and graduate students collaborated in multidisciplinary teams and worked with faculty to engage stakeholders from across the institution via interviews and participatory presentations. This constituted a novel learning partnership that radically reconceptualized a university course as a design space that can participate in transformational institutional change.

Previous study indicated that the simplicity of a visualized situation could play an important role in comprehension and emotion. However, the effect of the art style was never discussed. As an art style with minimalist aesthetic, pixel art’s popularity and value are not well explained. This study is aimed to investigate the difference between pixel and vector art style by comparing one of the visualized situations extracted from previous study and the pixelated counterpart. 166 valid responses were collected (69 males & 97 females). Participants were randomly separated into 2 groups, presented with 2 different art styles. After observing the visualized situation, they filled in a questionnaire asking about their understandings, evoked emotions, how realistic it feels, and how easy for them to picture themselves in the situation. ANOVAs and multiple regression analyses were conducted and results showed that art style did not have a big impact on emotions, whereas for pixel art style, the older the participant is, the easier they could picture themselves being in the situation. Additional analysis using chi-square test found that people tend to believe the situation is in a past era when observing the pixel version. This study revealed the potential impact of pixel art style on people’s comprehension, tricking people to believe it is happening in a past era. This phenomenon should be taken advantage of in not only game design but also other media graphic design scenarios.

Industries with high risk-potential like nuclear power plants need to manage abnormal potentially critical situations on team level for assuring reliable and safe operating. Safety is looked at as a "dynamic non-event" (Weick & Sutcliffe, 2001) and therefore has to be continually built on by the operating team through adaptive actions in relation to the situational context. The team processes and behaviors used for achieving shared mental models (or common situation awareness) are especially interesting for good problem solving, decision making and adaptation. In our study we collected data from eight four- to seven-person control room teams working in a nuclear power plant in Switzerland during their annual training in the interactive simulator of the plant control room. Simulations of two different scenarios were videotaped. The simulator scenarios generate an unexpected unstandardized situation (situations that were not covered / could not be solved solely by standard operation procedure) the team has to solve in order to stabilize the plant. Additionally, we got individual data by a questionnaire to capture individual characteristics of the team, especially regarding professional experience. The results still have to be considered as explorative in nature, due to the small sample size and time consuming coding of further additional team behaviors.

Ce rapport présente les derniers développements sur la situation des immigrants et des minorités visibles sur les marchés du travail québécois et canadiens. En 2021, les immigrants représentaient 14,6 % de la population du Québec et 23 % de celle du Canada. Au Québec, le taux de chômage chez les immigrants a fortement baissé au fil du temps, mais les immigrants sont toujours plus exposés au chômage et occupent des emplois moins bien rémunérés que les Canadiens de naissance. Quant aux minorités visibles, leur part dans la population était de 16,1 % au Québec (26,5 % au Canada) en 2021. Aussi, près d’un Québécois de moins de 25 ans sur quatre (22,2 %) est issu d’une minorité visible, une réalité avec laquelle le marché du travail devra composer et que les décideurs des politiques publiques doivent prendre en considération. Nos résultats permettent de conclure que l’intégration dans le marché du travail au Québec et au Canada est déterminée davantage par l’appartenance à une minorité visible que par le fait d’être immigrant. Même s’ils sont nés au Canada, les membres d’une minorité visible semblent peiner à se tailler une place sur le marché du travail. Dans un contexte où le Québec et le Canada cherchent à recruter plus de travailleurs à l’étranger pour faire face à la pénurie de main-d’œuvre, la logique voudrait qu’on réalise d’abord le plein potentiel de la population en âge de travailler qui se trouve déjà sur place. Par ailleurs, la situation des jeunes Canadiens de naissance issus des minorités visibles mérite une attention particulière pour parer aux risques d’exclusion socioéconomique de ces jeunes et aux conséquences que cette exclusion pourrait avoir sur la cohésion sociale.

Depuis l’automne 2022, avec l’arrivée abrupte de ChatGPT, la version gratuite du modèle de langage de l’entreprise OpenAI, les expérimentations à grande échelle du déploiement de ce système d’intelligence artificielle ont suscité un tsunami de réactions dont on perçoit les conséquences autant dans nos vies personnelles que professionnelles. En raison de l’ampleur des implications de cet événement, qui symbolise un changement hautement disruptif pour nos sociétés, il s’avérait incontournable qu’un groupe de chercheuses et de cherecheurs de l’Obvia s’y penche afin de contribuer à la réflexion sur le sujet et dégager des pistes d’action. Le but du présent document vise par conséquent à apporter des éléments de réflexion sur les différents enjeux que soulève l’émergence soudaine de ces technologies au potentiel révolutionnaire. Le présent document vise plus spécifiquement: • à situer dans son contexte le développement des applications d’IA générative; • à identifier ce qui nous semble être les principaux enjeux transversaux soulevés par l’arrivée de ces technologies dans nos vies et nos sociétés; • à esquisser quelques pistes d’action pour tenter de composer adéquatement avec ces enjeux. Ce document a été rédigé par une équipe multidisciplinaire de chercheuses et de chercheurs membres de l’Obvia. En effet, pour mener une réflexion sur une situation aussi large et complexe, il nous semblait essentiel de réunir des expertes et experts de plusieurs domaines, notamment en éthique appliquée, en neuropsychologie, en droit, en bioéthique et en philosophie. Les différentes thématiques qui émergent de cette réflexion ont été organisées comme suit, mais elles peuvent être découvertes dans l’ordre ou dans le désordre, selon les intérêts de la lectrice ou du lecteur.

The extent of automation and autonomy used in general aviation (GA) has been accelerating dramatically. This has huge potential benefits for safety given that 75% of accidents in personal and on-demand GA are due to pilot error. However, an approach to certifying autonomous systems that relies on reversionary modes limits their potential to improve safety. Placing a human pilot in a situation where they are suddenly tasked with flying an airplane in a failed situation, often without sufficient situational awareness, is overly demanding. This, coupled with advancing technology that may not align with a deterministic certification paradigm, creates an opportunity for new approaches to certifying autonomous and highly automated aircraft systems. Unsettled Topics in the General Aviation Autonomy Landscape discusses how these new approaches must account for the multifaceted aviation approach to risk management which has interlocking requirements for airworthiness and operations (including training and airspace integration). If implemented properly, autonomy can take GA safety to the next level while simultaneously increasing the number and variety of aircraft and transportation options they provide.

In certain situations, frost heave, that settlement, landslides, mining subsidence, lowering, or flooding may cause movement that induces longitudinal stresses in a pipe which may be large enough to warrant intervention to relieve the stress. There is a range of options available to a pipeline operator when faced with a potential pipeline movement. The decision regarding which option(s) to pursue should be based upon an objective assessment of risks and costs. This work proposes a model that leads to unambiguous, consistent, and justifiable responses in pipeline movement situations, formulated in terms of the economic trade-offs present in intervention decisions.

On-road vehicles equipped with driving automation features—where a human might not be needed for operation on-board—are entering the mainstream public space. However, questions like “How safe is safe enough?” and “What to do if the system fails?” persist. This is where remote operation comes in, which is an additional layer to the automated driving system where a human remotely assists the so-called “driverless” vehicle in certain situations. Such remote-operation solutions introduce additional challenges and potential risks as the entire vehicle-network-human now needs to work together safely, effectively, and practically. Unsettled Issues in Remote Operation for On-road Driving Automation highlights technical questions (e.g., network latency, bandwidth, cyber security) and human aspects (e.g., workload, attentiveness, situational awareness) of remote operation and introduces evolving solutions. The report also discusses standards development and regulations—both of which are needed to provide frameworks for the deployment of driving automation with remote operation.

In this study, data for two pipelines were analyzed and the effectiveness of the on-potential criterion was compared to that for the off-potential criterion for those pipelines. Review of the literature for conditions where the on-potential criterion is applicable resulted in a discussion of the complexities of applying on-potential and off-potential criteria, including situations for which the on-potential and off-potential may not provide accurate measurements. The majority of the effort was placed on establishing a methodology to be used in conjunction with the on-potential criterion to verify its effectiveness.

While shock-responsive social protection (SRSP) has become popular in global and national development discourses, its operationalisation in fragile and conflict-affected situations (FCAS) remains more limited, yet it is arguably here where it could meaningfully contribute to wider nexus approaches. By exploring experiences in a range of countries, the paper explores what is known about the use of SRSP in FCAS, and identifies further areas of potential research for the BASIC Research programme. It also assesses the state of knowledge regarding a number of key questions being raised among stakeholders, namely: What is known about navigating the ethical and political dilemmas around attempting SRSP in FCAS? What is known about the specific requirements for displaced populations and other excluded or vulnerable groups? What is known about when it might be ill-advised to attempt SRSP in FCAS?
