Rumah Kaca, or House of Glass, is the last episode of Pramoedya’s Tetralogy of Buru, and it gives “a surprise,” or a shocking end of Minke’s postcolonial strives. Here, he died several days after his coming home from exile. This looks surely to present the catastrophe of the native’s postcolonial hope and dream. The strategy of the colonial government in conducting “house of glass” has gone successful and Minke’s death might stop any local political activities opposing the government. However, this phenomenon, i.e. the death of Minke, appears as the new perspective dealing with the local Indonesians, or pribumi, in undergoing postcoloniality. Minke’s death is not to stop his postcolonialism, since he’s still kept it in his writings. Those are to represent Minke’s continuation in flaming postcoloniality to the next local postcolonialists. The novel Rumah Kaca seems to reemphasize the idea of postcolonialism, previously stated in the first episode, Bumi Manusia, that the main weapon of postcolonialism is the postcolonial brain of the postcolonialists. As the concepts of postcolonial ideologies by Bill Ashcroft and Annia Loomba, this discussion focuses on how Indonesian postcolonialism, by Pramoedya’s Tetralogy of Buru, has the ultimate power in writings, since compared to the colonial government the colonized’s technological civilization is much less powerful. In other words, Minke’s death does not mean the end of the local postcoloniality, and it is a new perspective in dealing with the common concept.

Postcolonialism, it seems, has had its day. Such, at any rate, is the word on the academic street level, outside special sessions of the MLA and along the myriad alleyways of Internet chatter. A relative newcomer to “poco” could be forgiven for thinking otherwise, of course: university presses continue to announce new titles in which the term features prominently; every English department or “cultural studies” curriculum must have its “postcolonialist” (under which heading all or part of US “ethnic” studies is often included); graduate students in the humanities and on the left fringes of the social sciences must be introduced to postcolonialism’s authoritative theorists and texts; and who knows how many “poco” dissertations are in preparation or still to be written?

Guatemala’s Indigenous Maternal Health Care: A System in Need of DecolonizationAbstract: Guatemala’s Maternal Mortality Ratios are the highest in Central America. These ratios vary drastically among ethnic groups, the highest occurring among rural Mayan women. As Guatemala struggles to reduce its MMRs, the controversy centers on Mayan Traditional Birth Attendants. This research investigates the role of Mayan traditional midwives within the framework of Postcolonialism. The results show a country under the legacy of colonization, manifested in the female colonized body. A paradigm shift is crucial in relation to both traditional birth attendants and their patients. Indigenous women’s reproductive health will not improve until health care, a legacy of Colonialism, is decolonized.Key words: Maya, woman, indigenous, maternal health, mortality, Colonialism, Postcolonialism, Decolonialism, midwives.

While William Faulkner preceded the formalized movement of postcolonialism, he anticipated a great many of its tenets and wrote them in into the early works of his career. As the theoretical conversation within postcolonialism has expanded in recent years to include notions of the new empire and post-hybridity, this thesis explores the ways in which Faulkner's narrative elements of encounter, fissure, and cycle may allow us to consider the postcolonial narrative more expansively, and to read William Faulkner as a postcolonial author.

This study examines three novels, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Ivan Klima's Love and Garbage, and Nina FitzPatrick's The Loves of Faustyna, and their relation to the creation, and the propagation, of the discourse which surrounds Eastern Europe throughout the Cold War. In studying these texts I address the relation between postcommunist studies of Eastern Europe and the field of postcolonialism, which have traditionally overlooked one another. In doing so, I argue that the application of postcolonialism to postcommunist studies allows for a deeper understanding as to Eastern Europe's position throughout the twentieth century. The three writers I have chosen share similar themes with the postcolonial discourse and as such I have chosen to highlight these similarities in order to point to a new manner in which Eastern Europe's literary contribution to the twentieth century can be understood.

This study investigates the ambivalent traits of third world postcolonialism. Third world postcolonialism appears as an antithesis against the logical fallacy of the binary oppositions performed by the contemporary first world postcolonial theory and practice. The division between the first and the third world postcolonial aesthetics is due to their different interpretations and practices of the term 'postcolonial,' respectively.

Annotation:
This thesis addresses particular limitations of postcolonial scholarship about Muslim women. To locate my analysis of postcolonial works, I survey Orientalist productions of the Muslim woman by European travelers and certain Muslim reformists. I read these repressive constructions of the Muslim woman through the lens of postcolonial critique. While postcolonial discourses about Muslim women are frequently framed as a "corrective" to Orientalist accounts, they are often limited by a commitment to teleological conceptions of development. This is especially true of the discourse of "Islamic Feminism" in the works of Margot Badran and miriam cooke. Examining Badran's and cooke's conceptions of feminism and religiosity, I highlight the ways in which it re-inscribes particular Orientalist assumptions, and remains bound by its adherence to secular-liberal values, and teleological conceptions of modernity. These biases carry serious implications for future scholarship about Muslim women within the Western Academy.

Dobson, Filippa Jane. „Barren (yeld ) : (traces of ain) landscape, postcolonialism and identity“. Thesis, University of Leeds, 2017. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/20604/.

Der volle Inhalt der Quelle
Annotation:
Yeld is a Scottish/North of England word meaning barren. The practice-based research contradicts binary notions of fertile/unfertile, nature/culture and inside/outside, arguing for a more nuanced entanglement of the human with the non-human animal and the other-than-human environment. The thesis details the productive ‘naturecultural’ relationship between the author and the Badger Stone, a Neolithic cup and ring marked statutory monument on Ilkley Moor. The three key aims of my practice-based research relate to geographical boundaries, the structuring of identity and cultural resistance to issues of power and control. The research tests postcolonial theory as a strategy for reading landscape and investigating geographical boundaries and relates postcolonial theory to phenomenological and other theories about the structuring of identity in relation to performance and place. My research to date has signified a change in emphasis from a definition of postcolonialism as necessarily boundaried and territorial to a potentially new understanding of postcolonialism as signifying a political tactic of resistance to issues of power and control. The primary themes of walking, collecting, mapping and printmaking were the catalyst into performance and land art. Four key performances on the Moor investigated considerations of place in relation to what I term ‘heritage control’ as a strategy for land management and access to scheduled monuments. By intertwining different theoretical ideas and actions, print forms became natural/cultural objects situated somewhere between physical artefacts and ephemeral performance. It is the combination of performance with principles of mapping that form the potentially original contribution to knowledge that this thesis attempts to outline.

Annotation:
This paper delves into the conflictual nature of transformative education, exploring the intricate dynamics at the intersection of race and social class within educational structures, aiming to unravel the conflicts that shape and perpetuate educational, economic, and social inequalities. Drawing inspiration from influential thinkers such as Paulo Freire, Angela Davis, Ivan Illich, or Bell Hooks, the aim of this paper is to showcase the power dynamics and conflictual nature that lead to and are created by educational inequalities. The current scientific literature on the matter underscores the critical need to address conflicts within the educational system, shedding light on power dynamics and systemic oppressions present in traditional educational models, in a world affected by postcolonialism, immigration, or gentrification. Regarding this paper, the emphasis is placed on the intersectionality of race and class, and how they influence educational inequalities and lead to economic disparities. Moreover, critically analysing the current educational approaches contributes to understanding its flaws and how the field can or should improve in the future. The study examines how systemic educational inequalities contribute to conflict and sustain cycles of disadvantage, advocating for changes in traditional education to foster inclusivity. It challenges the Eurocentric views and will call for the emergence of an educational system that validates the diverse cultural experience of all races, this being motivated by the need of inclusive and equitable educational environments. Insights urge policymakers, educators, and researchers to address root causes of conflict for positive change. The paper contributes by synthesising ideas from transformative education, offering nuanced perspectives on the impacts of race and social class in the educational processes. This foundation informs future research and actionable steps toward creating more equitable and inclusive educational systems. The contribution lies in deepening understanding and provoking critical discourse on transformative approaches to traditional education amid systemic conflicts.
