Background: Crouzon syndrome is an autosomal dominant genetic disorder characterized by craniosynostosis, midface retrusion, and exophthalmos. Over the past century, the treatment of craniofacial disorders like Crouzon syndrome has evolved significantly. Methods: An institutional review board–approved retrospective study was conducted to ascertain the treatment of three individuals with Crouzon syndrome from one family, complemented with a series of literature searches to examine the evolution of craniofacial surgical history. Results: Dr. David Williams Cheever developed the Le Fort I level to correct malocclusion, maxillomandibular malformations, and midface hypoplasia. Later, Dr. Paul Tessier introduced the Le Fort II and III osteotomies to treat syndromic midface hypoplasia. In 1978, Dr. Fernando Ortiz-Monasterio and Dr. Antonio Fuente del Campo published the first series of monobloc osteotomies, allowing for simultaneous correction of supraorbital and midface malformations, although complicated by blood loss and high infection rates. In 1992, McCarthy et al introduced the concept of gradual distraction to the craniofacial skeleton. In 1995, Polley et al performed the first monobloc advancement using external distraction. Subsequently, in 1997, Polley and Figueroa introduced a rigid external distraction device with multiple vector control to manage severe cleft maxillary hypoplasia. The technique was further refined and applied to treat syndromic midface hypoplasia, reducing complication rates. Currently, either external or internal distraction approaches are used to safely treat this challenging group of patients. Conclusion: The treatment of syndromic midface deficiency has significantly evolved over the past 50 years, as evidenced by this report of three generations of Crouzon syndrome.

Pollen Powder or Sari : Aspects of Morphology, Systematics and Application on Menthol Family Plant Pollen is the important component of plant to develop through reproductive. Pollen is the male organ of plants that plays an important role in the process of the evolution of plants. Menthol family plants (the Family Lamiaceae) is one of biggest families after Asteraceae. The process of the cross breeding often dominates the process of the evolution to the ment al Family. The research on the menthol Family's pollen aimed to know the affinity and the process of his pollination. The form of pollen of the Family Lamiaceae, was round and hexacolpate, the form was the same as the species member with their relatives. In the process of pollination often helped by the bee where pollen that clung to the abdomen part and the chest of the bee and moved to the other flower where the cross-pollination happen. The process of the cross-pollination happened also because of the same of maturity time between pollen of male and the stigma surface of female. The seed was still being the dominant factor in the reproductive in the Family Lamiaceae. Key words : Pollen, Pollination, Lamiaceae, the Mint family, the bee, the seed Abstrak Serbuk sari atau dikenal dengan pollen merupakan komponen penting tanaman untuk berkembang melalui reproduktif.

In this paper we examine empirically a key element of individualisation theory - the democratic family. We do so using the `acid test' of family policy, and family practice, in Sweden. First we review the progress of family policy in Sweden since the 1960s, which has expressly promoted an agenda of gender equality and democracy in families, with individual autonomy for both adults and children as one key element. We then turn to family practice, looking particularly at negotiation and adult equality, lifelong parenting after separation, and children's autonomy. While Swedish policy makers and shapers seem to have developed the idea of the democratic family long before the sociologist Anthony Giddens, the results in practice have been more ambivalent. While there has been change, there is more adaptation to pre-existing gender and generational norms.

This paper examines fertility and family policies in 15 Central and East European (CEE) countries to establish firstly, likely directions of cohort fertility trends for the coming decade; and secondly, to provide an overview and analysis of family policies in CEE countries, and to assess their impact on cohort fertility trends. Demographic analysis suggests that the cohort fertility decline of the 1960s cohorts is likely to continue at least among the 1970s birth cohorts; stagnation cannot be ruled out. Births that were postponed by women born in the 1970s were not being replaced in sufficient numbers for cohort fertility to increase in the foreseeable future, and shares of low parity women (childless and one child) were larger than shares of high parity women among the late 1960s cohorts than in older cohorts. Also, childbearing postponement which started in the 1990s is reflected in dramatic changes of childbearing age patterns. As period fertility rates have been increasing in the late 2000s throughout the region an impression of a fertility recovery has been created, however the findings of this project indicate that no such widespread childbearing recovery is underway. For the first time ever an overview and analysis of CEE family policies is conceptualized in this paper. It demonstrates that fertility trends and family policies are a matter of serious concern throughout the region. The following family policy types have been identified: comprehensive family policy model; pro-natalist policies model; temporary male bread-winner model; and conventional family policies model. The majority of family policies in CEE countries suffer from a variety of shortcomings that impede them from generating enhanced family welfare and from providing conditions for cohort fertility to increase. The likely further decline of cohort fertility, or its stagnation, may entail long-term demographic as well as other societal consequences, such as continuous declines in total population numbers, changes in age structures, as well as implications for health and social security costs.

Annotation:
When hospitals became the primary care setting for very ill patients, visiting hours and restrictions related to family presence during resuscitation (FPDR) became common. During medical crises that occur in hospital settings, families are separated from loved ones because family members may impair resuscitation efforts or such efforts might psychologically traumatize family members. Various national health care organizations have endorsed family presence during resuscitation; however, practices preventing family presence persist. This project used evidence from the peer-reviewed literature to develop a healthcare institution policy that addresses family presence during resuscitation. Theories, concepts, and models that guided this DNP project included: (a) theory of reasoned action; (b) family systems theory; (c) FPDR concepts (nurses' practices and beliefs, critical care professionals' opinions, practice guidelines); and the Plan, Do, Study, Act model. A systematic review of the literature was carried out to develop the policy. An interdisciplinary team of 7 professionals was assembled to contribute to policy development using literature from peer-reviewed journal articles. Products developed included the family presence during resuscitation policy and plans for implementing and evaluating the policy. This project holds potential to contribute to positive social change by giving patients and families the opportunity to witness and understand emergency care practices.

This study endeavours to make an analysis of the major issues that Lithuanian families are facing. In doing so, it is the purpose of the research to uncover the changes and problems that have taken place in Lithuanian society since the country gained independence from the Soviet Union. The Lithuanian case will be compared with Tanzania and other eastern and western European countries. This helps to identify and understand problems that Lithuanian society and families with dependent children have been experiencing.

The current situation of families in Lithuania is based on traditional model, where men are breadwinners and women are the ones who take care of the households. However, families are undergoing changes whereby, dual model support is taking over, especially to young generation. The two models are functioning in the country but majority of the population prefer traditional model. It is observed that, due to changes and difficulties in life, people have no other way than accepting dual model support.

Families with children are facing problems which hinder them to develop well in life style. Although the family policy in Lithuania provides family benefits to the families which deserve allowances, still children are in danger of lacking proper care and guidance. Families with dependent children have been experiencing poverty at a high rate that the rest of the population. Families with more than three children are more affected than the ones with fewer children.

The analysis of this study has shown how the issue of unemployment affects the raising of children. Many citizens have lost their jobs due to privatisation although on the other hand, privatization has been proved to increase the economy of the studied countries.

This study has also shown that women in Lithuania are more disadvantaged than men. Even if women labour force participation is quite high in Lithuania, still there are many problems. Namely, women in Lithuania have lower wages compared to men; there also few women in the decision making bodies and the parliament. Both Lithuanian and Tanzanian governments have taken measures to encourage women to participate in political arena and labour market. Good relationships within the families have proved to be crucial in good bringing up of the children. The responsibility of bringing up the children is also extended to the relatives.

All in all provision of family benefits is not the only solution but it has to be associated with education to families and community on how to raise children morally, physically and psychologically so that they become responsible adults.

Gillan, Evelyn. „Influencing family policy in post-devolution Scotland : the policy processes of the family law bill and the sexual health strategy“. Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/2584.

Der volle Inhalt der Quelle
Annotation:
The promise of devolution was to ‘do politics differently’ by creating a more plural, consensual and participative political landscape underpinned by the Scottish Parliament’s founding principles of openness, accountability, sharing of power and equal opportunities. In this context, it might be expected that post-devolution Scotland would provide a fertile environment for fostering innovation in family policy-making. Using a case study approach to critically analyse the policy processes of both the family law reforms and the sexual health strategy, the research uses Kingdon’s multiple streams framework to explore:- - the extent to which devolution has enabled civil society to participate in the policy process - how political activity by civil society impacts on government policy - whether or not devolution has fostered innovation in family policy-making. - who is influencing the family policy agenda in post-devolution Scotland The multiple streams framework offers a useful entry point for analysing the public policy process but Kingdon’s claim for the independence of the three streams of problems, policy and politics is problematic since these were found to be inter-related with a symbiotic relationship between the policy and politics streams. This supports work by Kendall (2000) which found a greater degree of connectedness between the policy and politics stream. The findings indicate that devolution has created a more fluid space for civil society participation in family policy-making but a paradoxical effect has been to increase the potential for interests to clash in the public sphere. And although progressive reforms were implemented in both cases, the formal policy instrument of primary legislation to implement the family law reforms facilitated engagement of a wider range of actors, enabled fuller debate of the issues and provided more checks and balances on the system than the informal policy instrument of the expert reference group used to develop the sexual health strategy. Devolution has not reduced conflict in family policy debates – the family continues to be a site of contestation and in the policy processes observed in one of the case studies, the combined forces of religion, politics and a distinctive media presence coalesced to create a ‘radioactive’ political climate. This had a direct effect on the policy process inside government which in turn, shaped the tone and content of the final policy output raising questions about the extent to which post-devolution Scotland can be regarded as providing a fertile environment for fostering innovation in family policy-making.

Family-friendly policy in companies in the Republic of Moldova is extremely important as it can have a significant impact on employee satisfaction and organizational performance. By implementing such policies, companies can create a work environment that provides support and flexibility for employees' family needs. Implementing family-friendly policies in Moldovan companies can be beneficial for both employees and the organization. These policies can improve organizational performance and contribute to a healthier and more family-friendly society. These policies can include benefits such as paid maternity and paternity leave, leave to care for children or elderly family members, flexible working or telecommuting schedules, financial assistance for family-related expenses, and other social benefits. A family-friendly policy can increase employee engagement and loyalty, thereby improving employee retention and reducing the costs of recruiting and training new employees. It can also improve employees' work-life balance, which can lead to higher productivity and job satisfaction

Despite being popular across the world, the concept of family-friendly policy is not associated with business in Russia. Our research focuses on the corporate sector and its potential to change the demographic context in Russia. The aim of the study is to identify regional models of the Russian corporate sector development and suggest pilot regions to start family-friendly policies aimed at increasing the birth rate. We used variables which characterise the corporate sector development in Russian regions and applied the hierarchical cluster analysis. Regional values of the indicators for all 85 Russian regions were analysed. We revealed 5 clusters and then additionally profiled the clusters selected according to the Total Fertility Rate. The analysis allowed us to identify two clusters of Russian regions which may become pilot ones when promoting family-friendly policy practices in their enterprises. We argue that a family-friendly policy in these clusters’ enterprises might become: relevant for employees; quite affordable for enterprises; a new effective tool of the demographic policy since the birth rates here are the lowest in Russia.

This paper explores the relevance of international debates to the realities of the Middle East, an important but understudied region that has often been subject to stereotyping. The region’s wealth of traditions and diverse contemporary experience offer insights to those who venture beyond the surface appearance. This paper provides a broad introduction to the connections between family, gender, and population policy in the Middle East. It is based on studies by a diverse group of Middle East scholars and the discussions they generated in Cairo at an international symposium sponsored by the Population Council in February 1994. The paper was written prior to the historic UN International Conference on Population and Development in Egypt, in the hope both of increasing understanding of an important region of the world and refining our grasp of international issues.

Through the initiative of the Family Planning Fortnight: Meeting the Future Challenges, held in December 1993, the Government of Bangladesh made a policy statement about the critical importance of dealing with the nation's population problem. The Fortnight provided the strategic framework for developing actions to strengthen the National Family Planning Program that would meet the country's population challenges. To initiate rapid action, the Family Planning Fortnight Steering Committee, under the chairmanship of the Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, formed a working group to prepare a report that would capitalize on all earlier efforts and lay out a plan of action. The working group identified a number of priority areas requiring immediate action to regain the momentum of the National Family Planning Program, and to ensure success in meeting the government's demographic, social, and economic goals. The working group recognized that there are a number of long-term, strategic policy issues that also require quick attention. As noted in this report, efforts to increase the dissemination and utilization of research results for policy formulation have been productive in Bangladesh from the perspective of the government, NG0s, and donors.

Eyal, Yoram, und Sheila McCormick. Molecular Mechanisms of Pollen-Pistil Interactions in Interspecific Crossing Barriers in the Tomato Family. United States Department of Agriculture, Mai 2000. http://dx.doi.org/10.32747/2000.7573076.bard.

During the evolutionary process of speciation in plants, naturally occurring barriers to reproduction have developed that affect the transfer of genes within and between related species. These barriers can occur at several different levels beginning with pollination-barriers and ending with hybrid-breakdown. The interaction between pollen and pistils presents one of the major barriers to intra- and inter-specific crosses and is the focus of this research project. Our long-term goal in this research proposal was defined to resolve questions on recognition and communication during pollen-pistil interactions in the extended tomato family. In this context, this work was initiated and planned to study the potential involvement of tomato pollen-specific receptor-like kinases (RLK's) in the interaction between pollen and pistils. By special permission from BARD the objectives of this research were extended to include studies on pollen-pistil interactions and pollination barriers in horticultural crops with an emphasis on citrus. Functional characterization of 2 pollen-specific RLK's from tomato was carried out. The data shows that both encode functional kinases that were active as recombinant proteins. One of the kinases was shown to accumulate mainly after pollen germination and to be phosphorylated in-vitro in pollen membranes as well as in-vivo. The presence of style extract resulted in dephosphorylation of the RLK, although no species specificity was observed. This data implies a role for at least one RLK in pollination events following pollen germination. However, a transgenic plant analysis of the RLK's comprising overexpression, dominant-negative and anti-sense constructs failed to provide answers on their role in pollination. While genetic effects on some of the plants were observed in both the Israeli and American labs, no clear functional answers were obtained. An alternative approach to addressing function was pursued by screening for an artificial ligand for the receptor domain using a peptide phage display library. An enriched peptide sequence was obtained and will be used to design a peptide-ligand to be tested for its effect o pollen germination and tube growth. Self-incompatibility (SI) in citrus was studied on 3 varieties of pummelo. SI was observed using fluorescence microscopy in each of the 3 varieties and compatibility relations between varieties was determined. An initial screen for an S-RNase SI mechanism yielded only a cDNA homologous to the group of S-like RNases, suggesting that SI results from an as yet unknown mechanism. 2D gel electrophoresis was applied to compare pollen and style profiles of different compatibility groups. A "polymorphic" protein band from style extracts was observed, isolated and micro-sequenced. Degenerate primers designed based on the peptide sequence date will be used to isolate the relevant genes i order to study their potential involvement in SI. A study on SI in the apple cultivar Top red was initiated. SI was found, as previously shown, to be complete thus requiring a compatible pollinator variety. A new S-RNase allele was discovered fro Top red styles and was found to be highly homologous to pear S-RNases, suggesting that evolution of these genes pre-dated speciation into apples and pears but not to other Rosaceae species. The new allele provides molecular-genetic tools to determine potential pollinators for the variety Top red as well as a tool to break-down SI in this important variety.

In August 2021, the Chinese three-child policy took effect, ending the former restrictive population policy of the country. Low fertility intention is one of the reasons behind the rapid aging of the society in China, thus the new policy seeks to achieve its demographic goals by encouraging childbirth. The first part of this paper presents the family-friendly and family protection measures the central government has introduced in recent years. The second part, based on local family planning regulation amendment reports and related news, introduces how local childbearing promotion initiatives complement the central measures in the first four months of the three-child policy. The analysis concludes by outlining the future of the three-child policy. The policy is unlikely to reverse fertility decline and ageing, although it can slow down its pace and help China gain time to continue the development of its social care systems. It is worthwhile for Hungary to monitor what kind of unique subsidies China introduces to promote childbirth in the future.

As India prepares for the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), it is clear that the country’s population policy faces a number of serious challenges. Although India was the first country to announce an official family planning program in 1952, its population has grown from 361 million in 1951 to 844 million in 1991. This is one of three reports on the relationship between gender equity, family structure and dynamics, and the achievement of reproductive choice prepared by the Population Council for the 1994 International Year of the Family and the 1994 ICPD. These reports provide critical reviews of the relationship between gender inequality and demographic behavior in three demographically significant, culturally distinct parts of the developing world: Egypt, India, and Ghana and Kenya. The purpose of the reports is to help governments and international agencies design and implement policies that are affirmative of women, sensitive to the family’s central role in resource allocation and distribution, and effective in achieving broad-based population and development goals.
