Der volle Inhalt der QuelleAny diagnostic problem is essentially, but not exclusively, a problem of identif-ying models. Financial diagnosis of small and medium-sized firms is no exception to the rule. It is possible to identify a model more precisely and more systematically starting from a financial analysis. Analyses of small firms obtained using a diachronic approach are the result of a coded representation. This is accepted by analysts who integrate three series of variables for profitability, solvency ans flexibility into a reference system dealing with three time periods : short-term, medium-term and long-term. This standardized image of a small firm is reassuring, but if we look into the matter further it is hot a objective as we might think. The model, which is used to generate data on financial interests, is also a socially involved system. This has been examined concurrently on 3 levels : the diversity of organizationnal types of small and medium-size firms on a cognitive level, the diagnostic analysis itself on an operationnal level and the relationnal level wich takes into account the wide range of attitudes and behavioral patterns of those involved in the firm. Identif-ying models is not the final result, but rather a starting point for discussion, providing a means to analyse the financial and social relationships of the various people involved in a small or medium-sized firm

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleWhile innovation is open and based on the networking of different actors, small and medium enterprises(SME) have a rising role to play in this field. French clusters, formal (as local productive systems, competitiveness clusters etc.) and informal, have significantly contributed to the SME innovation capacity byoffering them specific knowledge and skills that they couldn’t acquire if they remained isolated. The mainbody of this thesis is constructed within this perspective and seeks to shed a new light on the inter-enterpriseinnovation linkages. More precisely, the aim is to analyze the determinants of innovation of SMEs taking intoaccount their cooperation for innovation at a local, regional or national level. Within this scope, we develop atheoretical framework based on an analysis of different approaches of innovation, enhanced with elements ofthe geography of innovation proximity. This framework is then verified on empirical data firstly, at a regionallevel by studding different SME clusters of the Center Region and then, at a national level in an econometricstudy based on the survey data of Innovation (CIS4) on innovative SMEs. To conclude, the results show thatSMEs’ capacity to innovate arises from an internal and external complex process that, given the limitedresources of SMEs, should be based on effective innovation systems at different levels. SMEs’ cooperationfor innovation both in regional clusters and in national innovation systems can thus contribute to the creationof an ecosystem that is suitable for innovation

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis highlights the requirements for the competitive intelligence (CI) in small medium-sized enterprises (SME). However, even though the large French enterprises understood the need for CI, it is still not the case for SME yet. Our research relates the definition phase of the international requirements to both the environment of the SME and to the contents of these requirements. This work contributes to the design of a method defining information systems for CI systems (MEDESIIE). This work is more specifically focused on : 1)the definition of typical profiles for SME, 2)the identification of the types of requirements in CI for the leaders of SME, 3) and the identification of existing correlations between these requirements in CI expressed by the leaders for SME on one hand, and the "objective" characteristics of their enterprises, on the other hand. An empirical study of sixty five SME was performed in the framework of this research following to a combination of two methods : quantitative and qualitative

Until the end of the seventies, the priority for the public corporations was to master the technology for "it self". The new policy aims at reorganising the public industry, at promoting and integrating (in the developpement process) the small industries, and in particular the private ones. This raises the question of the capacity of the public sector to spread its "technological expertise" to the entire economy. This is all the more true that the particular evolution of the private industry deated a "technological gap" between the two sectors ; the reduction of witch will determine the success of the new policy. To what extent will public sector participate to the increate of the technological skills of the private corporation ? What will the importance of the "internal transfer" of technology ? The new policy will put into test the "industrilizing power" of the algerian model of developpement

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIn today's economic environment, growing small companies face a number of challenges in terms of their organization and information system. Such companies naturally see adopting an ERP solution as an opportunity to structure their business, apply good management practices, and acquire a management tool they can use to support their strategy. A company's organizational structure and information system are closely related, which makes finding the right ERP solution a complex process. To be successful in taking this step, small companies need effective tools to help them study their organization and choose a well-suited ERP system. In this thesis, we offer input on this process based on enterprise modelling. Our proposed "tools" are presented in two parts. First, we develop a modelling methodology, setting out a modelling framework, a set of models, and a modelling approach. We then present a detailed step-by-step approach which guides the company through the process of studying their organization and choosing their future ERP. This approach is based on the models selected and developed in the proposed modelling methodology. We prepared this thesis in immersion in a small company, which gave us daily insight into the challenges faced by such companies, and allowed us to take a highly applied research and action approach and validate our findings in the context of a concrete ERP project

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis PhD exploratory research aims to better understand the link between the economic growth and the innovation capacity of small and medium companies (SME) of the north west of Argentina (Sánchez et al, 2011). The objective is to objectivate the impact of the newness of the products on performances thanks to a top down type research approach. In order to take innovation capacity of the companies into account, the Boly et al (2000) method is used: it allows the calculation of a potential innovation index specific to the company. This index is then compared to others descriptive variables of the growth trends of the companies (O’Regan et al, 2006). The functioning mode of each studied SME is described thanks an activity based model. These activities are linked with the evaluation of the acceptability of the company’s products on the market. Thus acceptability is used as the main criteria to assess SME’s performance (Pantano et Di Pietro, 2012). Then, data about the evolution of the environment are integrated to the approach in order to consider external variables influencing the industrial performances (Porter M. E., 2008). Methodologies developed during the research are: multicriteria methods to calculate the potential innovation index (Camargo et al, 2007). A mathematic linear regression model is developed to represent the growth evolution of each company. Cluster analysis and principal component analysis are also used. Experimental data are collected in companies in the North West of Argentina through maturity grids (Maier et al, 2012). Data about management practices and performance variables are collected simultaneously. Finally the external variables are described thanks and experts enquiry

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe aim of this thesis is the study of transnational cooperation agreements between european SME managers. Their setting-up and functioning are analysed through four case studies. Four variables have been used to study the process : the will to cooperate explained by the interest in cooperating, trust and commitment. The thesis has six chapters. The first three define the european SME and cooperation agreements from a conceptual, theoretical and classification point of view. The fourth describes the qualitative inductive approach we have selected. The last two chapters focus on the analysis of the data collected and the generation of a substantial theory. The results show that the interest in cooperating and trust are perceptual, partially rationalized variables that influence commitment. They are both results and prerequisites. Collective and individual interests as well as personal and mutual trust have to be considered. These two variables can also be deleterious factors. Other results are the search for flexibility a regional rather than a national approach, the non oppotunistic behaviour of the managers involved, the co-influence of partners and other actors, the lack of correlation between durability and success, cessation and failure of the cooperation agreements that have been studied

Although many studies acknowledge the alliance between technological and organizational dimensions of innovation, only a few really outline and study this phenomenon. A literature review on the relations between technology and organization emphasized the progressive transition from an exogeneous conception of technology and an adaptive conception of organization (mainly represented in the contingency approach) to studies which recognize the complementarity between technological and organizational innovations. Qualified as ± integrative α these last approaches also have weaknesses mainly due to the numerous definitions of concepts and the variety of organizations studied. Besides, they do not really tacke into account the nature of the relations between innovations. Regarding this literature, three research

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe sharp increase in the number of illnesses could be attributed in part to the problems of stress that medical studies have increasingly forward, and which particularly concerns as we demonstrate the medium-sized enterprises. Through the analysis of this phenomenon, we try to overcome the traditional approaches to health and safety at work for a comprehensive approach that integrates ail of the socio-economic performance of enterprises. Ln the first part, we are positioning research on SMEs before define Medium Enterprises and describe the structural characteristics of their environment that will enhance the development of stress in their midst. Then we look at the theoretical approaches of this phenomenon before construct a dysfunctional definition. We based on a content analysis of sentences collected during interviews conducted in thirty enterprises and organizations. We characterize in the second part, the deterioration of the social performance and economic performance through three cases of medium enterprises. This deterioration leads to a lack of professionalism of the actors through the low quality of industrial relations and monitoring activities and men. We show that this situation generates conflicts that cause dysfunctional stress. Finally, we present a process of change tailored to the problem of dysfunctional stress to improve the functioning of the medium¬sized enterprises

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe purpose of this research is to study the behaviour of banks and venture capital societies in financing technological innovation in small and medium sized firms, especially in France and West Germany on the basis of two hypothesis: - the first one is relative to the existing of specified financial needs of small societies, - the second concern the appropriated answers of banks and venture capital societies to these needs. The verify each of those two hypothesis, we used two methods: - the existing litterature review, - the statistical analysis of the inquiry data provided by the three categories of agents : small and medium sized innovative firms, banks and venture capital societies

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleFour dimensions enable to analyse the process of structuration of firms in a phase of post-creation pre-development. A dynamic dimension : the question is to determine whether there exists a chronobiology of the structuration process and more particularly to evaluate the role of crisis. A political dimension : the power connections are taken into account to analyse the various structuring forces that are derived from them. A strategic dimension : the study of the connection between the strategic step of the firm and the structuration enables to state that the actors' behaviour effect the mediatization between these two process. A social dimension : the existence of important externalised costs on the staff of these firms constitute a non negligeable obstacle to the structuration process. Atler having tested its adaptability in seven cases, the study of the specificity of socioeconomic intervention in these firms leads to observe strong convergences with the other organisations. The particularities proceed rather from the characteristics of the negotiation of the intervention than from the nature of these firms. The socio-economic intervention involves structuring effects during both stages of the intervention. The diagnosis provokes direct structuring effects, the implementation or transformation of structures, and indirect structuring effects, thanks to the transformation of behaviours it sets in motion. The implementation of lmanagement tools involves direct structuring effects that mainly concern the definition of hierarchical and functional relations and indirect structuring effects, thanks to the clarification of objectives that sonner or later sets structural amendments in motion

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe anticipatory environmental scanning is a transverse organizational process through which a company intentionally tracks and uses pertinent information concerning its external environment to reach strategic objectives. This process is divided into different phases and involves people with interests and motivations that are sometimes contradictory. For those reasons, it is a complex process, difficult to set up and to implement normally and in a long term perspective. Our objective is to study the function of the Animation and to produce actionable knowledge. This actionable knowledge is integrated into a guide that will be used to follow-up and to help, "step by step", the beginners in the activity of animation. These beginners are responsible to set up a scanning device or to improve the existent and spontaneous practices of scanning. We build a theoretical framework of the Animation bringing together knowledge from different fields. An empirical work completes this framework. First, we have developed an exploratory research among Small and Medium Companies in Tunisia with the objective of identifying even simple scanning practices. Then, we have built a follow-up guide based in the theoretical knowledge and in the results of the qualitative analysis. Finally, we have tested this guide in three different companies. This final experiment allowed us to follow the beginners in the activity of animation and also to improve the existent scanning practices in the participant companies

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleAt the present time, hazardous waste. In small quantities is found mixed with household waste or discharged into public sewers, which usually hinders either household waste treatment or purification plant processing. This type of waste can be generated by households, but also, for the major part, by ether economic actors : craftsmen, shopkeepers, small businesses and liberal professions. The quantitative evaluation of this waste flow plays a major rôle in determining the essential parameters required for the implementation of a separate collection system for this waste. The EVAD method concerns the fields of activity bringing together a large number of small firms in a limited area, which use the same products and generate the same types of waste. For these activities, it is possible to deduce waste quantities from two pieces of information : the main activity and an activity level indicator. EVAD's aim is to evaluate, through surveys, and from the total number of employees and the activity code (NAF), the hazardous waste quantities generated by small businesses ( with less than fifty employees). This data had been chosen because it can easily be obtained for each firm from the company files provided by specialist organisations. Software enables the method to be easily applied. It can be split up into two main sub-systems : the first one called "Enrichment" enables the database to be updated by adding new survey results, whereas the second one, "Extrapolation", uses parameters calculated by the "Enrichment" sub-system to evaluate waste quantities generated in each geographical unit zone. Three fields of activity have been studied using the EVAD method : automotive services, metal working (machining operations) and printing. The types of waste concerned are hazardous waste, generated by these activities: used batteries, used brake fluids, cleaning solvents, oils, dirty rags and photo processing chemicals

Results from four case-studies in africa show that size is not a direct determinant of factor-intensity. Low labor-intensity rather seems to reflect various market failures affecting the growth and the development of the bulk of small enterprises. Thus, small size can not be considered as a virtue per se

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe thesis is in the context of the entry of heterogeneous firms into export markets. It presents a synthetic and selective review of recent related studies. Based on the surveyed works, we developed an original and simple theoretical model to better integrate the various dimensions of the export decision such as the occasional export. Then, the assumptions are tested as a part of a recursive model from firm-level data (SME-France). The results show that, in one hand, the "trial and error" could play an important role in the decision to durable export, and in the other hand, the role of productivity seems less important. Furthermore, the effect of exporting on the firm performance is analyzed empirically in an original way by distinguishing a self-selection effect and a specialization effect from the classical learning effect. In addition, innovation output and innovation input indicators more relevant than those usually used are constructed from original data. Finally, the estimates show that export affect indirectly productivity through the self-selection effect

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleOrganizational innovation is today recognized as a major factor to the survival and development of firms. This is especially true for small and medium-sized businesses, which are defined here as the meeting point between a structuring formalization essential to their development, and a permanent reconstruction of their social system, based on the actors strategic game. We identify the inadequate integration of the latter aspect in organizational change projects as the main reason behind their failure. The purposes of this essay are to understand the role played by the formalization used in purposeful organizational change in order to define its limits ; to characterize a few modeling techniques with regard to the requirements of the process of change in businesses, and to infer contributing elements to Value development in SME. The state of the art and the choice of a few methodological tools of modeling techniques and formal representations enabled us to build an engineering of organizational development, which was put to the test in two cases of organizational change and which made it possible to assess the role played by formal representation in the process of change. Our research reveals the existence of a corpus of data which cannot be grasped by formal models alone. An integrated approach to change, including the technical, organizational, behavioral, and cognitive dimensions, calls for the construction of links between the formal model and the organizational actors' representation. These links have a structuring, rooting, mediation and mediatization role, and thus define a general framework for the integration of formal and individual representations in purposeful organizational change

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleFamily businesses are organizations in which family participation characterizes management, control and ownership, representing a significant proportion of global organizations and a large percentage of GDP for multiple countries. For example, in Latin America, it is estimated that 90 to 98% of all companies are family, constituting 80% of all jobs. In the case of Ecuador, more than 80% of the companies are family members, under the definition that members of the founder's family or the same founder, continue in the administration, control or management of the firm, there being 55,130 registered in the Superintendence of Companies, with an equity of some USD 25,976 million, a contribution to the country's GDP of 51% and the generation of 1.6 million jobs (Price Waterhouse Coopers, 2018).Data from the Global Family Business Survey- Ecuador 2018 report that they represent 90%, where 77% already have the following generations working for the business and participate in the sectors: trade, professional activities, real estate, construction, transportation, manufacturing and services and agriculture.Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are recognized as a key driver of economic development, which has been the source of political debates around the world (Liedholm et al., 1994, Robson et al., 2009, Abor and Quartey, 2010), resulting in both developed and developing countries focusing on these companies for the benefits they can bring in terms of job creation and income generation (Hallberg, 1999, Acs and Szerb, 2007, Kang and Heshmati, 2008).These companies are so different in terms of origin, structure, organization and direction, in addition to the fact that the few existing studies in Ecuador frequently do not broaden the vision of the company beyond the second generation and do not address the motivations of the entrepreneurial act, in This research is based on the deepening of a broad theoretical framework, involving cognitive, organizational and behavioral social theories, to propose the problem in the form of a research question: What are the motivations of the entrepreneur of the Ecuadorian family SME that can configure a typology of the entrepreneurial act and its impact on business management? The general objective of the research is to know the typology of the Ecuadorian entrepreneur, in terms of the motivations and the illustrative variables that most characterize them, and their impact on the management of family SMEs.For the specific objectives, the following are defined: determine the conceptual theoretical elements that allow defining Ecuadorian family businesses, as well as the most important attributes or variables that can be included in a typology for entrepreneurs of family SMEs in Ecuador; establish the main characteristics of personal, family and professional context, as well as, the motivations for the entrepreneurial act, of the managers of the family SMEs of Ecuador; Determine the main factors that are part of the business management and achievement of objectives of the managers of family SMEs in Ecuador and finally relate the typology of the Ecuadorian entrepreneur with the management models of family SMEs.For the methodology a quantitative, hypothetical - deductive methodological approach is adopted, with a correlational scope, which - after reviewing the state of the art - allows to establish initial questions from which hypotheses are derived whose logical consequences are subjected to empirical corroboration, through a exhaustive process of data collection and statistical analysis.Based on the database of the Superintendency of Companies of Ecuador, which reports 27,532 active family SMEs, a simple random sample of 1,000 companies was selected to which they were sent by email a first survey-typology of the entrepreneur and another second survey - management model. The data was processed using descriptive statistics, principal components analysis and correlation analysis

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe goal of this research is to identify the determinants of the performance of Small and Medium-sized technological Enterprises (SME). This thesis explores their performance through two experiences : a quantitative study on organizational learning and a qualitative one concerning the contributions of managers' social network. This research follows the resource-based view (RBV) of the firm in highlighting knowledge (Spender and Grant, 1996) and relational resources (Dyer and Singh, 1998), which were identified as " mother " resources. Relational rents through a complex social meshing are based on SME managers' social network. This system feeds technological SME relational learning that promotes innovation and allows to better control the environment through uncertainty reduction

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe thesis deals with the conceptualization and assessment of the ability of firms to absorb external knowledge. It also discusses the impact of this capability on innovation and productivity. The first contribution of this thesis consists in modeling the absorption capacity as an integrated process in the innovation of the company processes. This process of absorption is defined and modeled in an original way through a network of interactions between different activities or capacities: the capacity for internal absorption, the access to external knowledge and the ability to cooperate capacity. The second contribution is to analytically treat the issue by integrating the absorption capacity and the cognitive distance through an innovation function simultaneously. This model allows to distinguish between a theoretical absorption capacity and an effective absorption capacity that takes into account the cognitive distance. The third contribution initially consists, on one hand, in measuring the intensity of these different capabilities and, on the other hand, in estimating the causal relationships between them. That is to say, the ability to determine the internal absorption ability to access external knowledge, which in turn, would determine the ability to cooperate. Secondly, the thesis focuses on the influence of the intensity of cooperation on business performance (output of innovation, labor productivity, TFP). Finally, the thesis discusses the impact of the performance of the company on its internal capacity for absorption

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe last two decades have been marked by the rise of emerging economies and the emergence of start-ups and Hi-Tech SMEs with high international growth. This trend has spawned a new area of research, international entrepreneurship in emerging economies. The purpose of this qualitative research is to study the factors that influence the process of identifying international opportunities in technological SMEs from an emerging economy, Tunisia. To this end, we are studying the process of internationalization of seven Tunisian technological SMEs in the information and communications technology sector. The results of the intra- and inter-case analysis identify entrepreneurial personality traits, international entrepreneurial capabilities and relational networks as the three main categories of factors that influence the identification of international opportunities. Our research results in the formulation and discussion of eight proposals that make it possible to schematize an explanatory model of the internationalization of technological SMEs emerging from emerging economies

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleA new stage in CSR, Creating Shared Value (CSV) is a strategic lever that allows reconciliation between business and ethics. It enables companies to create both economic and societal value. Although academic research has demonstrated the relevance of CSV in big companies, its usefulness in the context of SMEs remains to be proven. In this thesis we propose to confront the theoretical framework of the concept of CSV developed by M. Porter and M. Kramer (2011) with the reality of French SMEs. The following questions are examined: 1) How do SME leaders perceive Creating Shared Value? 2) How does the implementation of CSV include the three levers cited by Porter and Kramer, namely: New development of products, services and markets; the redefinition of productivity in the value chain, and the development of a local competitiveness cluster? 3) And finally: how do the specificities of SMEs and the characteristics of their leaders influence the choice and the relevance of one lever as opposed to another one? In this research, we use the technique of cognitive mapping to model and analyze the mental representations of SME managers that have been interviewed on the theme of CSV. The typology used shows that if SMEs participate in Creating Shared Value the strategic levers chosen by them are determined by the SME specificity and by the type of its manager. This theme opens up a rich and interesting research potential for both academic and business communities
