The induction motor (IM) is considered to be one of the most important types of motors used in industries. A sudden failure in this machine can lead to unwanted downtime, with consequences in costs, product quality, and safety. Over the last decade, several methods and techniques have been proposed to diagnose and detect faults in induction machines. In this paper, we present the development of a new algorithm based on the combination of both the Park’s vector approach (PVA) and the extended Park’s vector approach (EPVA) for broken rotor bars (BRBs) fault detection and identification. This fault can be detected using the PVA by monitoring the thickness and orientation of the park’s vector pattern and using EPVA by identifying specific spectral components related to the fault. For ability evaluation of our suggested algorithm, simulations and experiments are conducted and presented. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is accurate and effective and can be extensively used in IM fault detections and identifications.

This paper deals with the possibilities of bearing fault diagnosis of induction motors by stator currents analysis based on Park’s vector approach. The main theoretical aspects, the experimental results and their analysis are presented. It is shown that preventive stator current diagnostics of induction motors based on Park’s vector allows us early detection of bearing defects in the inner and outer races. The current spectra additional harmonics appearing in the case of bearing damage are found.

The detection results need to be analyzed and distinguished by professional technicians in the fault detection methods for induction motors based on signal processing and it is difficult to realize the automatic identification of stator and rotor faults. A method for identifying stator and rotor faults of induction motors based on machine vision is proposed to solve this problem. Firstly, Park’s vector approach (PVA) is used to analyze the three-phase currents of the motor to obtain Park’s vector ring (PVR). Then, the local binary patterns (LBP) and gray level cooccurrence matrix (GLCM) are combined to extract the image features of PVR. Finally, the vectors of image features are used as input and the types of induction motor faults are identified with the help of a random forest (RF) classifier. The proposed method has achieved high identification accuracy in both the Maxwell simulation experiment and the actual motor experiment, which are 100% and 95.83%, respectively.

Abstract An Induction motor reliability survey at an egg processing plant shows that almost 50% of the total motor failures are fan induction motors. Visual investigations of the faulty fan motors show that the main cause of the induction motor failure is air gap eccentricity. In this study, experimental tests are performed on a 1.1kW three-phase induction motor to detect air gap eccentricity and overheating of the induction motor. Heating tests show that end shield housing temperature reaches 100°C with blocked air flow from the fan, which can reduce the lifespan of the bearing. Dimension measurements of the end shield housing show that the dimensions of both tested motors back-end shields are larger than ISO tolerance grade limit. It leads to a loose fit between the housing and bearing, causing air gap eccentricity. Also, both motor back end shield housing has an out-of-round condition leading to an unbalanced magnetic pull. To detect the air gap eccentricity caused by too loose of a fit between housing bore and bearing, current Park’s vector approach is used. To measure three phase current, Hall Effect current transducers, a digital oscilloscope is used and Matlab software to process the measurement data. Results show that Park’s vector approach can be used to detect the air gap eccentricity caused by too loose a fit between bearing and housing. Therefore, the Park’s vector approach can be used to diagnose air gap eccentricity and analyse the type of the air gap eccentricity.

The three phase induction motor is a popularly used machine in many of the industries, which is well known for its robustness, reliability, cost effectiveness, efficient and safe operation. The unnoticed manufacturing failure, mistakes during repair work, exceeding life time may be some of the causes of the induction motor failure, which may lead to the unknown shut down time of the industry. The condition monitoring plays important role as it has the influence on the production of materials and profit. In our work, the induction motor is modelled using stationary reference frame and analysed for single phasing stator fault. The techniques used in detecting the single phasing (open circuit) failures are Park’s vector approach and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). Park’s vector approach is used for detecting the faults occurring at various phases and FFT is used for detecting the faults of the induction motor working under no load and varying loading conditions.

Purpose The purpose of this study aims to focus on the detection and identification of the broken rotor bars (BRBs) of a squirrel cage induction motor (SCIM). The presented diagnosis technique is based on artificial neural networks (NNs) that use as inputs the results of the spectral analysis using the fast Fourier transform (FFT) of the reduced Park’s vector modulus (RPVM), along with the load values in which the motor operates. Design/methodology/approach First, this paper presents a comparative study between FFT applied on Hilbert modulus, Park’s vector modulus and RPVM to extract feature frequencies of BRB faults. Moreover, the extracted features of FFT applied to RPVM and the load values were selected as NNs’ inputs for the detection of the number of BRBs. Findings The obtained simulation results using MATLAB (Matrix Laboratory) environment show the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed NNs based approach. Originality/value The current paper presents a novel diagnostic method for BRBs’ fault detection in SCIM, based on the combination between the signal processing analysis (FFT of RPVM) and artificial intelligence (NNs).

Park’s transformation in the context of ac machine is applied to obtain quadrature voltages for the 3-phase balanced voltages. In the case of a inverter fed drive, one can adopt Park’s transformation to directly derive the quadrature voltages in terms simplified functions of switching parameters. This is the main result of the paper which can be applied to model based and predictive control of electrical machines. Simulation results are used to compare the new dq voltage modelling response to conventional direct –quadrature (dq) axes modelling response in direct torque control – space vector modulation scheme. The proposed model is compact, decreases the computation complexity and time. The model is useful especially in model based control implemented in real time, in terms of a simplified set of switching parameters.

A method to analyze and detect the features of rotor and stator asymmetric faults for AC motor is put forward in this paper. After modeling the damaged asynchronous motor, stator’s three-phase current signals of the motor at normal status, as well as that with stator and rotor bar asymmetric faults, are simulated and analyzed qualitatively. In view of the shortcomings of Park’s vector transformation in the analyzing motor current signature, a method is put forward by combining it with signal amplitude demodulation. Based on this new method, the asymmetric features are expected to be extracted completely through the amplitude relative normalization and spectrum analysis. Finally, the availability of this method is verified by detecting and diagnosing the faults in actual AC motors.

In this work we exhibit canonical forms for 2D codimension one piecewise smooth vector Fields (PSVF). All possible orientations and codimension one scenarios were covered. Also the intrinsic objects that characterize each one of the canonical forms were presented. Also we present topological distinct canonical forms for a larger class for symmetric PSVF where the set of fixed points is contained in the variety os discontinuity. Finally we analyze the simultaneous occurrence of sliding and crossing limit cycle in the case where the piecewise linear vector fields presents a continuum of periodic orbits.

Tanzania’s Ruaha landscape is an international priority area for large carnivore conservation, harbouring roughly 10% of the world’s lions, and important populations of leopards and spotted hyaenas. However, these large carnivore populations are threatened by intense retaliatory killing due to human-carnivore conflict on village land around Ruaha National Park (RNP), mostly as a result of livestock predation by lions, leopards and spotted hyaenas. Moreover, a current lack of ecological data on the distribution of these carnivores hinders the development of effective strategies for conservation and targeted conflict mitigation in this landscape. This study aimed to identify the most significant ecogeographical variables (EGVs) influencing the distribution of lions, leopards and spotted hyaenas across the Ruaha landscape, and to map areas of conservation importance for these species. In addition, the study assessed the influence of EGVs on livestock predation risk by these carnivores in the village land around RNP, and generated a predictive map of predation risk. The relative importance of livestock husbandry practices and EGVs in terms of influencing predation risk within enclosures was also investigated. Proximity to rivers was the most important variable influencing the distribution of large carnivores in Ruaha, and contributed to predation risk of grazing livestock. The traditional livestock husbandry adopted in bomas appeared insufficient to alleviate the inherent risk of predation by large carnivores. The study produced the first detailed maps of lion, leopard and spotted hyaena distribution in the critically important Ruaha landscape, and identified likely livestock depredation hotspots. These results will target conflict mitigation approaches around Ruaha, by identifying particularly high-risk areas for livestock enclosures and grazing stock. Improving husbandry in these areas could help reduce livestock depredation and retaliatory carnivore killing, therefore reducing one of the most significant conservation threats in this critically important landscape.

The goal of this work is study limit cycles of piecewise smooth vector fields. First, we present the basic theory, passing through the areas of analysis, qualitative theory of differential equations and algebra. We also present basic concepts of Filippov fields, which are indispensable for the study of piecewise smooth fields. In chapter one, was the main topic, a general method for finding limit cycles will be described; in the second chapter limit cycles are found in a piecewise smooth vector field with non-degenerate center being perturbed by a piecewise polynomial vector field. In the fourth chapter, we study limit cycles in piecewise smooth Hamiltonian fields.

In this work we will show that, given a piecewise smooth vector field, we can apply the regularization method and, from it, via blow-up, turn it into a singular perturbation problem. By doing that, we can use the tools from singular perturbation theory to perform a qualitative study of piecewise smooth vector fields. Finally, we will show that, through successive changes of coordinates, a singularity of a discontinuous submanifold of codimension k, where k=1 or k=2, can be transformed into a singularity of codimension 0 in order to study the qualitative behavior in this submanifold, where the Filippov’s convention holds.

In this work the first-order Averaging theory will be studied. This theory replaces the problem of finding and quantifying limit cycles of a vector field by the problem of finding positive zeros of a function. We present the classical Averaging method (done for C 2 smooth vector fields) and we apply it to some special cases of quadratic polynomial vector fields in R3. Afterwards, we show a generalization of the Averaging method proposed in [3], which uses Brouwer degree theory in order to extend the method to continuous vector field, in other words, the differentiability of a vector field is no longer required. Finally, we will study the Averaging theory for piecewise smooth vector fields, presented in [14] using the regularization technique for piecewise smooth vector fields, see [22]. Also we will apply it to a class of polynomial vector field defined by parts, known as Kukles fields, see [16].

Systems with spin-orbit coupling and magnetic fields exhibit a SU(2) structure. Large classes of materials and couplings can be written into an effective spin-orbit coupled Hamiltonian with Pauli structure. Appropriate kinetic equations are derived keeping the quantum spinor structure. It results in coupled kinetic equations of scalar and vector distributions. The spin-orbit coupling, the magnetic field and the vector part of the selfenergy can be written in terms of an effective Zeeman field which couples both distributions. The currents and linear response are derived and the anomalous parts due to the coupling of the occurring band splitting are discussed. The response in magnetic fields reveals subtle retardation effects from which the classical and quantum Hall effect result as well as anomalous Hall effects. As application the dynamical conductivity of grapheme is successfully calculated and compared to the experiments.

Exposure to contaminants in the home and all indoor spaces can cause disease, including chronic inflammation, allergy, and asthma. Controlling dust, which can contain mold spores, insect parts, fecal material, pet dander, skin fragments, packaging materials, dust mites, volatile cleaning agents, and carpet fragments, is essential for clean indoor air. Dust is a vector for chemical toxins and organic and inorganic materials, which are sources of inflammation. The triggered immune response plays a central role in the pathogenesis of asthma, allergy, and sinusitis. Controlling humidity is necessary to minimize mold and the infiltration of dust mites and other insects in the home.

This chapter presents dynamic and steady-state modeling of permanent magnet synchronous (PMS) machines with the help of reference frames. The modeling starts with a machine model in terms of phase variables. An equivalent two-axis model in a stationary reference is then obtained by a reference frame transformation. A further transformation to a two-axis rotor reference frame, with its direct axis aligned with the axis of a permanent magnet rotor pole, is derived. Another transformation to a two-axis stator flux linkage reference frame is also presented. Finally, a motor model in polar coordinates, based on space vector theory, is developed. In this chapter, PMS motor equivalent circuits are drawn, based on the mathematical models where appropriate. Iron losses and iron saturation are also taken into the models. The chapter ends with a brief presentation of the dynamic equation of PMS machines mechanical parts.

Substance use disorders have been linked to HIV/AIDS since the beginning of the epidemic. Injecting drug use can serve as a mode of viral transmission and in some parts of the world and among certain populations is the primary vector of transmission. Substances of misuse implicated in HIV transmission include alcohol, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and Ecstasy. Use of both non-injecting drugs and alcohol is also associated with increased sexual and other risk-taking behaviors and seroconversion. In addition, substance use disorders and other psychiatric disorders often coexist and can have profound effects on the medical management of HIV/AIDS as well as on a person’s social interaction and quality of life. Many people with HIV/AIDS therefore suffer from triple diagnoses necessitating comprehensive evaluation and treatment and a team approach involving medical, mental health, and substance use caregjvers. Treatment can include detoxification, harm reduction, individual, group, and family therapy, medication, and awareness of potential drug interactions.

Democracy needs to be defended, and intelligence is the first line of defence. However, the liberal-democratic norm of limited state intervention in the lives of citizens means that security and accountability are in tension insofar as their first principles are diametrically opposed: whereas openness and transparency are hallmarks of democratic governance, operational secrecy—in relation to other states, to democratic society, and to other parts of government—is the essence of intelligence tradecraft. Intelligence accountability reconciles democracy and security through transparent standards, guidelines, legal frameworks, executive directives, and international law. Evolving executive, legislative, judicial, and bureaucratic mechanisms for intelligence oversight and review have become a distinct feature of democratic regimes. Over recent decades legislative and judicial components have been added to complement administrative and executive accountability. Using a most-similar systems design to compare intelligence accountability in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, this book expands compliance as the sine qua non of intelligence to gauge effectiveness, efficiency, and innovation across the intelligence community. In the context of changing technology and threat vectors that have significantly affected, altered, and expanded the role, powers, and capabilities of intelligence, this book compares the institutions, composition, practices, characteristics, and cultures of intelligence accountability systems across the world’s oldest and most powerful intelligence alliance. In an asymmetric struggle against unprincipled adversaries, accountability has to reassure a sceptical public that the intelligence and security community plays by the same rules that democracies are committed to defend.

It is obvious that the process of developing cancer—oncogenesis—is a multistep process. We know that smoking, obesity, and a family history are strong independent predictors of developing malignancy; yet, in clinics, we often see that some heavy smokers live into their nineties and that some people with close relatives affected by cancer spend many years worrying about a disease that, in the end, they never contract. For many centuries scientists have struggled to understand the process that make cancer cells different from normal cells. There were those in ancient times who believed that tumours were attributable to acts of the gods. Hippocrates suggested that cancer resulted from an imbalance between the black humour that came from the spleen, and the other three humours: blood, phlegm, and bile. It is only in the last 100 years that biologists have been able to characterize some of the pathways that lead to the uncontrolled replication seen in cancer, and subsequently examine exactly how these pathways evolve. The rampant nature by which cancer invades local and distant tissues, as well its apparent ability to spread between related individuals led some, such as Peyton Rous in 1910, to suggest that cancer was an infectious condition. He was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1966 for the 50 years of work into investigating a link between sarcoma in chickens and a retrovirus that became known as Rous sarcoma virus. He had shown how retroviruses are able to integrate sequences of DNA coding for errors in cellular replication control (oncogenes) by introducing into the human cell viral RNA together with a reverse transcriptase. Viruses are now implicated in many cancers, and in countries where viruses such as HIV and EBV are endemic, the high incidence of malignancies such as Kaposi’s sarcoma and Burkitt’s lymphoma is likely to be directly related. There are several families of viruses associated with cancer, broadly classed into DNA viruses, which mutate human genes using their own DNA, and retroviruses, like Rous sarcoma virus, which insert viral RNA into the cell, where it is then transcribed into genes. This link with viruses has not only led to an understanding that cancer originates from genetic mutations, but has also become a key focus in the design of new anticancer therapies. Traditional chemotherapies either alter DNA structure (as with cisplatin) or inhibit production of its component parts (as with 5-fluorouracil.) These broad-spectrum agents have many and varied side effects, largely due to their non-specific activity on replicating DNA throughout the body, not just in tumour cells. New vaccine therapies utilizing gene-coding viruses aim to restore deficient biological pathways or inhibit mutated ones specific to tumour cells. The hope is that these gene therapies will be effective and easily tolerated by patients, but development is currently progressing with caution. In a trial in France of ten children suffering from X-linked severe combined immunodeficiency and who were injected with a vector that coded for the gene product they lacked, two of the children subsequently died from leukaemia. Further analysis confirmed that the DNA from the viral vector had become integrated into an existing, but normally inactive, proto-oncogene, LM02, triggering its conversion into an active oncogene, and the development of life-threatening malignancy. To understand how a tiny change in genetic structure could lead to such tragic consequences, we need to understand the molecular biology of the cell and, in particular, to pay attention to the pathways of growth regulation that are necessary in all mammalian cell populations. Errors in six key regulatory pathways are known as the ‘hallmarks of cancer’ and will be discussed in the rest of this chapter.

In the paper, we investigate the main causes and consequences of de-industrialization manufacturing and identify important factors influencing the structural transformation of the industrial sector through the prism of global technological challenges. Important challenges identified include environmental challenges of the threatening impact of climate change, digitalization in all spheres of public life, the technological leadership of developed countries in context field of Industry 4.0, changes in the geopolitical landscape and trade conflicts between countries; migration and population aging; changes in competencies and retraining of employees to acquire digital skills; cybersecurity and volatility threats; quarantine amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The current structural imbalances of Ukrainian industrial development are considered and the current state and dynamics of structural changes in the Ukrainian economy in technological, reproduction, sectoral and foreign economic dimensions are analyzed. Crisis trends in the Ukrainian industry developed long before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic: comparing the structure of Ukrainian industry by type of economic activity, a decrease in the share of the manufacturing industry, a loss of production potential for a number of high-tech industries (automotive industry, instrument making, shipbuilding) and a decrease in added value in manufacturing industry with Ukraine's establishment as an independent state in which profound political, social and economic reforms have begun to take place. The analysis made it possible to determine further opportunities for industrial development, taking into account harmonization with European trends in digital and green transformations in industry. Based on the research results, complex directions for solving structural imbalances in industry at interrelated levels are proposed: state, regional and local levels. Overcoming the consequences of Ukrainian manufacturing deindustrialization in the context of European integration is dependent on developing and implementing relevant policy of manufacturing modernization and principles of the "circular economy"; integration into strategic value chains; creating conditions for training personnel with digital competencies; development of an innovative infrastructure – scientific, industrial, technological parks, innovation clusters and business-incubators. This will lead to the development and introduction of domestic innovation in production, which in turn should inspire further progress in the innovation structural transformation in Ukrainian economy and help to enhance national competitiveness and achieve sustained economic growth.

Eucalyptus is the common name of a set of exotic species present in the Brazilian territory. They have a strong invasive potential which is detrimental to the preservation of native floral formations, particularly in protected areas. This research seeks to (i) understand the stage of eucalyptus invasion in the Brasilia National Park; (ii) identify the main vectors of the invasive populations and (iii) verify the possible role of the adjoining Brasília National Forest in the invasion and (iv) consider possible conflicts between the roles of these two different categories of protected areas. A set of phytosociological sample areas were defined inside the park to pinpoint different eucalyptus populations. Findings indicate that eucalyptus populations inside the park behave invasively, having advanced 186.30 meters from their point of origin over the span of 45 years. Among the possible contamination vectors are a neighbouring nursery run by the local government and eucalyptus plantations in the adjoining Brasília National Forest. Results indicate the need for management actions to avoid continual seed dispersal by examined populations. They also indicate that the distinct conservation goals of national forests and national parks must be considered, especially when they are neighbours.

This paper presents a novel sensorless direct torque control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor with resilient extended Kalman filter. In comparison to the field-oriented control scheme, direct torque control has advantages due to its simplicity (without Park’s transform or space-vector pulse-width-modulation), excellent transient response, high reliability and robustness. The interior permanent magnet synchronous motors have been extensively used in industrial applications due to their high efficiency, large torque to weight ratio, high performance and high reliability. Traditionally, the rotor position and speed of rotation are directly fed back through encoders or resolvers. In order to provide a more reliable and cost saving approach, the sensorless direct torque control of permanent magnet synchronous motor technique is proposed to eliminate the need of using encoders or resolvers. A novel nonlinear estimator, the resilient extended Kalman filter is proposed, which shows superior estimation accuracy compared with other estimation approaches such as extended Kalman filter. Computer simulation and DSP hardware implementation have been conducted to show the superior performance of the proposed approach.

Abstract In this paper, we take a relook at two-degree-of-freedom instantaneous rigid body kinematics in terms of dual numbers and vectors, and show that a dual ellipse is a cylindroid. The instantaneous angular and linear velocities of a rigid body is expressed as a dual velocity vector, and the inner product of two dual vectors, as a dual number, is used. We show that the tip of a dual velocity vector lies on a dual ellipse, and the maximum and minimum magnitude of the dual velocity vector, for a unit speed motion, can be obtained as eigenvalues of a positive definite, symmetric matrix whose elements are the dual numbers from the inner products. From the real and dual parts of the equation of the dual ellipse, we derive the equation of a cylindroid (Ball,1900).

The Houston Ship Channel is one of the busiest deep -draft navigation channels in the United States and must be able to accommodate larger vessel dimensions over time. The U.S. Army Engineer District, Galveston (SWG) requested the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center, Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory perform hydrodynamic and sediment modeling of proposed modifications along the Houston Ship Channel. The modeling results are necessary to provide data for salinity and sediment transport analysis a s well as ship simulation studies. SWG provided a project alternative that includes channel widening, deepening, and bend easing. After initial analysis, two additional channel widths in the bay portion of the Houston Ship Channel were requested for testing. The results of these additional channel widths are presented in this report. The model shows that the salinity does not vary significantly due to the channel modifications being considered for this project. Changes in salinity are 2 parts per thousand or less. The tidal prism increases by less than 2% when the project is included, and the tidal amplitudes increase by no more than 0.01 meter. The residual velocity vectors do vary in and around areas where project modifications are made.

The Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve vegetation mapping project is part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). It is a cooperative effort between the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and the National Park Service’s (NPS) Vegetation Mapping Inventory Program (VMI). The goal of this project is to produce a spatially and thematically accurate vegetation map of Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve prior to the completion of restoration efforts associated with CERP. This spatial product will serve as a record of baseline vegetation conditions for the purpose of: (1) documenting changes to the spatial extent, pattern, and proportion of plant communities within these two federally-managed units as they respond to hydrologic modifications resulting from the implementation of the CERP; and (2) providing vegetation and land-cover information to NPS park managers and scientists for use in park management, resource management, research, and monitoring. This mapping project covers an area of approximately 7,400 square kilometers (1.84 million acres [ac]) and consists of seven mapping regions: four regions in Everglades National Park, Regions 1–4, and three in Big Cypress National Preserve, Regions 5–7. The report focuses on the mapping effort associated with the Northwest Coastal Everglades (NWCE), Region 4 , in Everglades National Park. The NWCE encompasses a total area of 1,278 square kilometers (493.7 square miles [sq mi], or 315,955 ac) and is geographically located to the south of Big Cypress National Preserve, west of Shark River Slough (Region 1), and north of the Southwest Coastal Everglades (Region 3). Photo-interpretation was performed by superimposing a 50 × 50-meter (164 × 164-feet [ft] or 0.25 hectare [0.61 ac]) grid cell vector matrix over stereoscopic, 30 centimeters (11.8 inches) spatial resolution, color-infrared aerial imagery on a digital photogrammetric workstation. Photo-interpreters identified the dominant community in each cell by applying majority-rule algorithms, recognizing community-specific spectral signatures, and referencing an extensive ground-truth database. The dominant vegetation community within each grid cell was classified using a hierarchical classification system developed specifically for this project. Additionally, photo-interpreters categorized the absolute cover of cattail (Typha sp.) and any invasive species detected as either: Sparse (10–49%), Dominant (50–89%), or Monotypic (90–100%). A total of 178 thematic classes were used to map the NWCE. The most common vegetation classes are Mixed Mangrove Forest-Mixed and Transitional Bayhead Shrubland. These two communities accounted for about 10%, each, of the mapping area. Other notable classes include Short Sawgrass Marsh-Dense (8.1% of the map area), Mixed Graminoid Freshwater Marsh (4.7% of the map area), and Black Mangrove Forest (4.5% of the map area). The NWCE vegetation map has a thematic class accuracy of 88.4% with a lower 90th Percentile Confidence Interval of 84.5%.

Australia's and China's resources (e.g. Olympic Dam Cu-U-Au-Ag and Bayan Obo REE deposits) highlight how discovery and mining of iron oxide copper-gold (IOCG), iron oxide±apatite (IOA) and affiliated primary critical metal deposits in metasomatic iron and alkali-calcic (MIAC) mineral systems can secure a long-term supply of critical metals for Canada and its partners. In Canada, MIAC systems comprise a wide range of undeveloped primary critical metal deposits (e.g. NWT NICO Au-Co-Bi-Cu and Québec HREE-rich Josette deposits). Underexplored settings are parts of metallogenic belts that extend into Australia and the USA. Some settings, such as the Camsell River district explored by the Dene First Nations in the NWT, have infrastructures and 100s of km of historic drill cores. Yet vocabularies for mapping MIAC systems are scanty. Ability to identify metasomatic vectors to ore is fledging. Deposit models based on host rock types, structural controls or metal associations underpin the identification of MIAC-affinities, assessment of systems' full mineral potential and development of robust mineral exploration strategies. This workshop presentation reviews public geoscience research and tools developed by the Targeted Geoscience Initiative to establish the MIAC frameworks of prospective Canadian settings and global mining districts and help de-risk exploration for IOCG, IOA and affiliated primary critical metal deposits. The knowledge also supports fundamental research, environmental baseline assessment and societal decisions. It fulfills objectives of the Canadian Mineral and Metal Plan and the Critical Mineral Mapping Initiative among others. The GSC-led MIAC research team comprises members of the academic, private and public sectors from Canada, Australia, Europe, USA, China and Dene First Nations. The team's novel alteration mapping protocols, geological, mineralogical, geochemical and geophysical framework tools, and holistic mineral systems and petrophysics models mitigate and solve some of the exploration and geosciences challenges posed by the intricacies of MIAC systems. The group pioneers the use of discriminant alteration diagrams and barcodes, the assembly of a vocab for mapping and core logging, and the provision of field short courses, atlas, photo collections and system-scale field, geochemical, rock physical properties and geophysical datasets are in progress to synthesize shared signatures of Canadian settings and global MIAC mining districts. Research on a metamorphosed MIAC system and metamorphic phase equilibria modelling of alteration facies will provide a foundation for framework mapping and exploration of high-grade metamorphic terranes where surface and near surface resources are still to be discovered and mined as are those of non-metamorphosed MIAC systems.
