ObjectivesTo review the published literature on vulvar Paget’s disease (VPD) molecular bases, aiming to support the need for tailored treatment in women affected by this 'orphan' tumor.MethodsMEDLINE-PubMed and Scopus were interrogated using the following algorithm: (extramammary OR extra mammary OR vulvar) AND (paget OR pagets OR paget's) AND (molecular OR biological OR marker OR protein OR target OR expression). The inclusion criteria for papers were: peer-reviewed English-language journals, articles published in the last 30 years, studies focused on fixed research questions, quality assessment on the basis of the relevance and contribution to the selected topics.ResultsA total of 42 studies were selected, providing the following results. Molecular markers implicated in cell cycle transitions seem to be related to prognosis and could help to tailor conventional treatments. Fragmented but consistent preliminary data exist on hormonal receptor expression, ERBB2 amplification/overexpression and abnormal vascular proliferation, offering a concrete possibility for target therapy trials. Conversely, other fields linked to the possible use of immunotherapy are currently relatively unexplored, such as the tumor 'immune contexture', programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) expression and defects in the mismatch repair system, which is involved in genomic instability and potentially promotes a consistent response to treatment.ConclusionsAdditional effort is needed to further characterize these aspects. Centralization of patients in dedicated units would be beneficial for concentrating patient numbers, collecting valuable clinical data and conducting clinical trials. Interdisciplinary study platforms should be developed and integrated into wider multicentric networks.

Abstract: This study employs qualitative fieldwork experiences to assess the role of Native American princess pageants in maintaining tribal cultures and Native American identity. We first defined and described the term “princess” and the institution that is the Native American princess pageant. After completing an extensive literature review of beauty contests, Native American culture, Native American history, and Native American pageants, we developed seven themes and seven subthemes accounting for the role of the Native American princess pageant in the maintenance of tribal cultures. We employed participant observation to collect data over 28 hours of activities related to the public 2022 Miss Indian World pageant and the Gathering of Nations powwow, which included the introduction of the pageant contestants and crowning of the 2022 Miss Indian World. We focused on performances of culture and verbal depictions of culture. Our findings aligned with the seven themes and seven subthemes derived from our literature review and supported the role of the Native American princess pageant in maintenance of tribal and pantribal cultures.

Mammary Paget’s disease accounts for 1% to 3% of all breast tumors and manifests as a chronic eczematous lesion of the areolar skin. It can occur without any underlying neoplasia or can be present in association with an underlying invasive and/or in situ carcinoma of the breast. The present report describes a challenging nipple punch biopsy showing an infiltration of the lower third to two-thirds of the epidermis by large, ovoid, neoplastic cells. The morphology was consistent with mammary Paget's disease, although immunohistochemistry for cytokeratin-7 (CK7) was repeatedly negative. This resulted in an initial misdiagnosis and, subsequently, a delay in the patient's follow-up. Additional immunohistochemistry for GATA binding protein 3 (GATA3) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), as well as a second opinion of a breast pathologist, resulted in the diagnosis of mammary Paget's disease. The aim of this article is to raise awareness among pathologists and prevent them from misdiagnosing CK7-negative Paget disease of the breast.

The craze for historical pageants staged in Britain by local communities at the beginning of the twentieth century stimulated a widespread public engagement with historical costume. As well as thousands of performers, and tens of thousands of spectators, pageants involved hundreds of local people in sewing parties who spent months making the costumes required for these outdoor re-enactments of episodes of local history. This article investigates how pageant costumes were designed, made or sourced, on the large scale required, and the cost implications this involved. Whilst costume designers were acknowledged, the employment of professional dressmakers and milliners often necessary to complete the work received less recognition. Florence Edwards, a professional theatrical dressmaker, is one of the few who can be identified. The role of the London theatrical costumier Willie Clarkson, a supplier to many pageants, is also examined. During pageant preparations, local people actively researched dress history, and in the case of Emily Ashdown her interest led to a lifelong career as a dress historian.

The paper attempts to explore how the female body is often controlled by the power politics, which is discussed with reference to the Miss Nepal beauty pageant. The pageant being organized since 1994 has drawn not only ideological and ethical debate, but it has also generated street demonstrations including violent confrontations since then. Though women’s wings of various politico-cultural organizations tried to stop it by organizing various protest movements, multiple forms of regional and community-based beauty pageants are proliferating in Nepal. This study primarily tries to observe the forms of body politics that exist in Miss Nepal beauty contests from the perspective of indigenous aesthetics. Secondly, it analyzes how the female body is tied with the power politics in the name of beauty pageants from the Gramscian notion of ‘hegemony’ and Ngugi wa Thiongo’s ‘decolonizing the mind’. Finally, as indigenous aesthetics is an extensive domain, this paper recommends some ways to deal with the Miss Nepal beauty pageant issues, especially with reference to the indigenous Newa: women aesthetics.

e12564 Background: The objective of this study was to investigate the clinicopathological characteristics, especially subtypes and survival outcomes of Invasive breast cancer with Paget's disease. Methods: 4930 patients were identified using the histopathology codes from the International Classification of Disease for Oncology third edition (ICD-O-3), from 2000 to 2019 in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Excluding 787 patients whose ICD-O-3 and TNM stages did not match, there were 663 patients with '8540/3, Paget disease, mammary', 976 patients with ‘8543/3, Paget disease and intraductal carcinoma(DCIS)’ and 2540 patients with ‘8541/3, and ‘8541/3, Paget disease and infiltrating ductal carcinoma (IDC) of breast’. ER and PR status have been available since 1990, and HER2 status since 2010. Results: Among patients with IDC and Paget's disease, 24.6% were under the age of 50 and 2.7% were male, which was higher than the other two groups. Expressions of ER and PR were higher than both groups, and HER2 expression was lower. The ratio of HR-/HER2+ subtype was also lower than the other two groups at 29.6%. ER+, Paget 43.7%, DCIS with Paget 36.4%, IDC with Paget 53.6%. PR+ Paget 21.6%, DCIS with Paget 21.7%, IDC with Paget 40.1%. HER2+ Paget 69.2%, DCIS with Paget 83.1 %, IDC with Paget 58.3%. HR-/HER2+subtype, Paget 40.7%, DCIS with Paget 49.2%, IDC with Paget 29.6%. As a result of survival analysis in patients with IDC and Paget's disease, the HR-/HER2+ subtype had shown the best prognosis in Overall Survival (OS) analysis (5year OS, HR+/HER2- 70.8%, HR+/HER2+ 74.9%, HR-/HER2- 63.7%, HR-/HER2+ 80.7% P=0.010) In the BCSS analysis, the 5-year BCSS was the best at 87.0% in the HR-HER2+ subtype, but there was no statistically significant difference. Conclusions: In IDC with Paget's disease, the distribution of subtypes is different from that of DCIS with Paget's, and HER2 expression can be considered as a favor prognostic factor. It is considered necessary to study the relationship between the loss of HER2 overexpression and invasion/progression in invasive breast cancer with Paget's disease.

This paper considers how notions of beauty and performances at pageants transform as they move across different colonial times and spaces. It examines how gender, racial, and sexual subjectivities take shape among cisgender Filipina women who participate and organize community-based pageants on the traditional and ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Skxwú7mesh, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples (Vancouver, Canada). I analyze observations and interviews conducted with Filipina/os who organize and participate in community pageants. Based on this examination, I argue that spatial processes make apparent the shifting nature of gendered, racialized, and sexualized pageant performances. Pageant ideals change with migration as white heteropatriarchal logics, which are enmeshed in settler colonial projects of Canada, make grooves into the ways Filipino gendered sexualities come to be in Canada. More broadly, the paper speaks to the ways in which power works with and through space through the logics of race, gender, and sexuality. It outlines how racialized women’s feminine heterosexuality is made legible by liberal scripts designed for immigrants in the white settler colonial context of Canada. Thus, the paper sets in motion questions of how intersections of power are shaped by contemporary forms of colonialism.

ABSTRACTBeauty pageants in Nigeria have become highly popular spectacles, the crowned winners venerated for their beauty, success and ability to better society through charity. This paper focuses on the Carnival Calabar Queen pageant, highlighting how pageants, at the nexus of gender and the nation, are sites of social reproduction by creating feminine ideals. A divinely inspired initiative of a fervently Pentecostal First Lady, the pageant crowns an ambassador for young women's rights. While the queen must have ‘grace and beauty’ and be ‘ever prayerful’, the discussion unravels emic conceptions of feminine beauty, religiosity and respectability. Yet, young women also use pageantry as a ‘platform’ for success, hoping to challenge the double bind of gender and generation they experience in Nigeria. The discussion pays particular attention to how young women, trying to overcome the insecurities of (urban) Nigerian life, make choices to negotiate individualism with community, and piety with patriarchy. Ethnographically, this paper situates beauty pageants in the region's past and present practices that mould feminine subjectivities. Contributing young women's experiences to recent literature on the temporalities of African youth, the paper's explicit focus on how new subjectivities form through action illuminates important themes regarding agency, resistance and notions of the religious self. In doing so, it furthers current analyses of Pentecostalism, seeking a more nuanced understanding of gender reconfiguration and demonstrating how religious subjects can be formed outside church institutions.

A case of Paget's disease and gynecomastia in a 70-year-old man is reported. Paget's disease was connected to an intraductal carcinoma, and the immunohistochemical study revealed similar positivity for cytokeratin A, carcinoembryonic antigen and epithelial membrane antigen in Paget cells and intraductal neoplastic cells whereas Paget cells resulted negative for cytokeratin B and C. The study using monoclonal anti-cytokeratin A (35 βH11), B (34 βE12) and C (34 βB4) could represent a good tool, supporting the theory of a ductal origin of Paget cells. A review of the literature has shown the rarity of Paget's disease in the male breast and revealed only two previous reports with an associated gynecomastia, in 2 patients with Klinefelter's syndrome and infiltrating breast carcinoma.

We report the imaging findings of Paget’s disease of pelvis discovered incidentally in a 70 year old patient with prostatic adenocarcinoma, who underwent an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) for the staging of his disease and revealed extensive marrow signal abnormalities at the left pelvic bone. Biochemical tests revealed normal serum calcium and phosphorus with markedly raised alkaline phosphatase. X-RAYS and CT SCANS of the pelvis show cortical and trabecular thickening of the left iliac bone that are typical for this disease. Furthermore, increased uptake noted in left hemipelvis suggestive of Paget's disease on the scintigraph. After the treatment the uptake in left hemipelvis remains same confirming Paget's disease.

Extramammary Paget’s disease (EPD) is a rare tumor occurs mainly in areas with numerous apocrine and or eccrine sweat glands. We report a 49-year-old woman who had referred to another hospital with the complaint of an erythematous and pruritic plaque on the vulva for 6 months. An incisional biopsy had been taken and pathological result was reported as invasive SCC. In her past medical history, there was a history of total thyroidectomy due to follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma two years ago. The patient had been received radioactive iodine for 3 times, however her Iodine isotope scans were still positive. Then she was visited at our hospital for definite treatment. According to the pathologic report she underwent vulvectomy with inguinal lymph node dissection. Histological examination revealed primary invasive Paget disease of the vulva and there was one inguinal lymph node involvement. Second vision of the initial incisional biopsy was also compatible with primary invasive Paget disease of the vulva. We ruled out the possibility of metastatic deposits of thyroid carcinoma in the vulvar lesion and inguinal lymh node by IHC stains. Accurate classification of Paget's disease is essential for appropriate treatment. IHC stains are necessary to differentiate it from other tumors. The possibility of associated malignancy should be considered. To the best of our knowledge this case is the first case of primary Paget disease of the vulva in association with thyroid carcinoma.

Women are not only considered beautiful from the outside, but also need inner beauty through the beauty queen event. Pageant lovers as loyal supporters of the beauty queen event also represent female beauty through Instagram accounts, in addition to raising support and updating information about beauty pageants. This study aims to describe women's beauty represented by Instagram pageant lovers on social media. The research method uses the semiotic approach of Roland Barthes on Instagram accounts of pageant lovers, including @portalpageant.id, @pageantcrownwarriors, and @indopageant. The time span of the analyzed uploads was January to February 2023. The results showed that the representation of female beauty on the accounts of pageant enthusiasts contains a number of issues, namely that the standard of female beauty is relative with the caption Black Beauty. The issue of commercialization of women through the beauty pageant event can be seen from the disappointment of pageant lovers with the transfer of the license of the Puteri Indonesia Foundation (YPI) and the Miss Universe Philippines fundraiser.

The development of beauty pageants in Indonesia cannot be separated from the role of beauty pageant contest lovers known as pageant lovers. Instagram has become one of the channels for the pageant lovers community to interact and communicate through pageant portal accounts. This study aims to understand the symbolic convergence of the Indonesian pageant lovers community on Instagram based on symbolic convergence theory. The research method used is the observation of captions and comments on pageant portal accounts and interviews with three sources from three different pageant portal accounts on Instagram. The results showed that the symbolic convergence of the pageant lovers community emerged spontaneously from its members and was widely used through Instagram. Several forms of symbolic convergence that occurred were “mbak brownies”, “turun gunung, and “negara topi bundar”. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the symbolic convergence that occurs in the Indonesian pageant lovers community on Instagram is following the existing symbolic convergence theory through the process of fantasy themes, fantasy chains, fantasy types, and rhetorical visions.

BACKGROUND: The desire to be physically beautiful is inherent among human beings. In particular, some women who participate in modern-day beauty pageants tend to spend more time, energy, money and emotional resources to alter their natural body and looks to fit socially and culturally constructed standards of beauty. OBJECTIVE: The authors frame beauty pageants as the context where diverse occupations are at play with the purpose of becoming a ‘beauty queen’. This commentary aims to discuss the origins and culture of beauty pageants, the different perspectives on pageantry work, and essential and hidden occupations performed within the context of this form of performing art. APPROACH: Using the conceptual lens of the dark side of occupation, hidden occupations are characterised by the doings of pageant hopefuls that are less explored and acknowledged because they are perceived as health-compromising, risky, dishonest, illicit, and socially or personally undesirable. CONCLUSION: Furthermore, this commentary calls for the exploration of occupations beyond the conventional scope of its understanding and the acknowledgment of hidden occupations intertwined into people’s everyday doings specifically in the context of desiring to be ‘beautiful’.

The British working-class pageants of the nineteen-thirties were curiously cross-bred between, on the one hand, the resolutely bourgeois civic pageants which had become popular around the turn of the century and remained so still, and, on the other, the new Soviet style of mass-declamations with agit-prop intent. Often ignored even by left-wing theatre historians, these pageants drew on other influences varying from endemic communal forms of creation such as choirs and processions to the work of contemporary, left-leaning ‘high art’ poets and musicians. Here, Mick Wallis looks in detail at one such pageant, Music and the People, mounted in London in April 1939, and at the tripartite five-day festival of which it formed a part. He goes on to explore the politics, aesthetics, and logistics of this long-neglected form of popular performance. Mick Wallis, who teaches drama at Loughborough University, has recently published on using Raymond Williams's work in the integration of practical and academic approaches to teaching. His one-man act, Sir John Feelgood and Marjorie, was an experiment in popular form for the sake of left-wing benefits.

Mammary Paget’s disease is rare and comprises about 0.62% of all breast cancer cases, only 1.65% of which occur in male patients. This case report involves a 76-year-old man who presented to his primary care physician with an itching, scaly, unilateral lesion involving the nipple skin. He underwent wide local excision of the lesion for a diagnosis of Bowen’s disease (squamous cell carcinoma in situ). Histologic examination of the specimen revealed mammary Paget’s disease with ductal carcinoma in situ in the underlying breast tissue. A panel of immunohistochemical stains revealed the Paget cells to be positive for cytokeratin 7, MUC1, GATA3, and androgen receptor and negative for cytokeratins 5/6, p63, SOX10, and MART-1/Melan-A. Paget cells were also negative for estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor, and positive for HER2/neu. However, the underlying ductal carcinoma in situ was positive for both estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor and negative for HER2/neu. This discordance, supported by the current literature, suggests an alternative etiology for Paget’s disease in certain cases that cannot be explained by the well-established epidermotropic and transformative theories of Paget’s disease evolution.

This paper considers the persistence of the Renaissance pageant in modern and post-modern culture, both as a recurrent metaphor for history in general and as a feature of stage, cinematic and communal representations of early modern history in particular. After examining the status of public processions in Renaissance London as conscious revivals of the Roman triumph, indebted at the same time to aspects of the medieval mystery plays, the essay examines the English historical pageants of the Edwardian and inter-war years as themselves revivals of both Renaissance pageantry and aspects of the Shakespearean history play. It looks in particular at their emphasis on the Tudor monarchs and on the ethnic origins of Englishness, identifying the fading of the pageant as a genre in the post-war years with the collapse of certain ideas about English exceptionalism and historical continuity.

AbstractPlaywrights increasingly intend the pageant texts for readers; these texts become commemorative books that both capture the event and add to it. They assume an expository and narrative function that sets them apart from the typical dramatic text. By examining the extant printed texts of Jacobean and Caroline Lord Mayor's Shows, I argue that these publications do not obliterate theatrical performance or displace it so much as they complete it. Dramatists and printers come to recognize the lasting value of textual performance in civic pageants.

This quantitative research examines how beauty pageant sponsorships impact brand exposure and brand equity among Filipino consumers. A survey (n=450) measured unaided and aided brand recall, attitudes, and purchase intent based on exposure to real and simulated pageant sponsorships. Results demonstrated significantly higher recall for sponsored brands compared to non-sponsored brands (unaided 67% vs 23%; aided 93% vs 62%). Brand attitudes were more positive for sponsored brands, especially on attributes like prestige and reputation. Purchase intent also increased for brands aligned with cultural values. Overall, findings show that pageant sponsorships are an effective marketing platform for increasing brand awareness, enhancing brand image, and driving consumer behavior. Associating with events like Miss Universe Philippines provides branding opportunities in the Philippines, given pageantry's prominent role in popular culture. However, marketers must authentically connect sponsorships to local values. This empirical research quantifies pageantry's impact on key branding metrics like awareness, image, and purchase intent. It highlights the importance of strategic alignment with socio-cultural meanings. Marketers can leverage these consumer-focused metrics and quantitative approaches to optimize sponsorship strategy. Further research could build on this framework to expand evidence on pageants' marketing potential across developing contexts.

The Philippines is a home of hospitable, peace-loving, beautiful, handsome, and intelligent people. Beauty contests are always part of traditions and in celebrating festivals, fiestas, and other social activities. When the beauty contests are done, people often feel disappointed in the results because errors usually occur in the manual computation of the scores. As a result, the judges are oftentimes commented as biased, that judges have their proteges, and favoritism prevails. Thus, with the advent of technology, AutoBeaut was developed, intended for barangays, municipalities, organizations, and institutions. The contests consist of different categories to be competed in by the candidates, and every category has its own criteria. The application runs on desktop computers and mobile phones. The pageant's results will be sent to the server, and the tabulated results will be printed. The Prototyping Model was used in the development of the system. The system was used in the different beauty pageants, especially for organizations or agencies requesting the Pageant Computerized Tabulation System. This is one of the extension activities of the College of Computer Studies, particularly the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. The system is important in computing, tabulating, and monitoring the scores given by the judges to every candidate. Results would be readily accessible once the judges entered the points garnered by candidates. It will lessen and hasten the work of the judges and statisticians and provide fast, accurate, valid, and reliable results that can be retrieved anytime if somebody needs the computation for reference. The system was tested and evaluated by the respondents based on ISO 25010 and rated as “Very Acceptable” among the different criteria set.

Abstract:In the world of Nigerian beauty pageants, the bikini remains a fraught embodied symbol and aesthetic practice. Pageant affiliates, critics, and fans alike strongly debate the question of whether to include bikinis in these events. This article draws primarily from nearly a year of ethnographic observations of two Nigerian national beauty contests in 2009-2010 to show how various stakeholders used personal, domestic, and international frames about women’s bodies, and the bikini in particular, to bolster respectability. Through embodied respectability, women’s figurative and literal bodies were used to strategically situate propriety, social acceptance, and reputability for the self and the nation.

Beauty pageants such as Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB) normally select a lady to serve as a symbolic representation of their collective identity to a larger audience. The common tastes including fashion and lifestyle of members of a society collectively form and represent the tastes and lifestyle of its people; therefore the fashion and culture of a particular time symbolize the spirit of the times. Cultural principles refer to the cultural values that are categorized, organized and evaluated in each society. The principles governing standards in one region or country may not be same for other places. For example, the reasons for wearing of beads in one region may differ from that of other regions in Ghana. Standards are held to when they are documented and subsequently in line with cultural values. In a discussion with two members of the GMB organizing team during a national audition at TV3 premises in August 2017, they admitted that there was no comprehensive policy document spelling out beauty standards and guidelines of the pageant. The research adapts a sequential exploratory design with a population made up of all participants of GMB. The purpose of the study was to find out the beauty standards of GMB pageant as culturally projected within the beauty pageant. It was found out that the pageant occasionally deviates from its main focus of projecting Ghanaian cultural values. It should therefore regularly refer to its objectives while exhibiting all its activities.

This essay analyzes a Sedan Day pageant, written by Johanna Siedler and celebrated at a girls' school in Berlin in 1880. Although Sedan Day celebrations were common in imperial Germany, Siedler's pageant is unique in providing roles for women and girls to play. The pageant models an emotional relationship between young women and the state, whereby girls take on allegorical roles that embody the virtues and the historical and cultural continuity of the German nation. The pageant's language-that of love and duty, longing and national belonging-coupled with the discursive role of the young women's bodies on the stage demonstrate how nationalism was gendered in imperial Germany and how schools as institutions of the nation state integrated women into the nation. The girls learn that, in order to lay claim to their own Germanness, they must align their private feelings with their role as delineated in the textual and symbolic discourse of nation. (JA)

In this way, the idealization of the national beauty winner and her transformation into a symbol of collective virtue translated political and propagandistic ambitions in terms of feminine identity.

As Carey McWilliams notes in Southern California Country: An Island on the Land (1946), theatricality has persisted as a central tactic of empire in the U.S. borderlands—from the rituals Spanish missionaries used to attract Native Americans to the historical dramas of Anglo-American boosters. The early decades of the twentieth century saw a number of plays that, in the words of Chelsea K. Vaughn, “romanticized the Spanish and Mexican periods of California history before assigning them comfortably to the past.” These include John S. McGroarty’s The Mission Play (1912) and Garnet Holme’s adaptation of Ramona (1923) as well as his original drama The Mission Pageant of San Juan Capistrano (1924). Such dramas were anticipated by ceremonial pageants that took place at Mission Revival hotels throughout the early twentieth century—to wit, Governor Theodore Roosevelt’s visit to the 1899 Rough Riders Reunion at the Castañeda Hotel in Las Vegas, New Mexico, and President William Howard Taft’s 1909 Columbus Day sojourn at the Glenwood Mission Inn, in Riverside, California. Each of these “hospitality pageants” casts the visiting dignitary as a typological protagonist—the Anglo-American “antitype” of the Spanish “type” embodied in conquistadores and/or missionaries.

Important to these performance events is the figure of the ‘moffie’, a queer male, often a transsexual, who has traditionally choreographed and designed the Spring Queen pageant, but who is forbidden from competing in it. Alternatively, MGWC is a platform for queers of colour to perform in a secure environment without exploitation. My individual work in this collaboration focuses on the MGWC pageant and the attendant methodological questions that have arisen in our attempt to forge bridges between Western queer theory and local articulations of gender identity and alternative sexualities, considering the current preoccupations in scholarship around (South) Africa that cut across geography, politics, economics and history. Abstract Hungary was an important destination for British travelers in the nineteenth century, whose travel accounts provide intriguing insights into the cultural and political climate of the period. John Paget’s journey was meticulously recorded in his extensive book entitled Hungary and Transylvania (1839) that served as a travel guide for other British visitors after him. Paget, who took part in the 1848/49 War of Independence, and became a “Hungarian,” opened Europe’s eyes to the Hungarian people and their country, destroying several false myths that existed about Hungarians in Western Europe, thus attempting to shape up a more favorable picture about them. The present paper examines a few questions regarding the representation of Hungary and of Transylvania in general in the travelogue: how did Paget describe particular cities and regions, the inhabitants, as well as their everyday life? I will attempt to look at the (changing) images of Hungary and Transylvania in Paget’s writing, as well as to offer an insight into Hungarian society and culture in the nineteenth century as contrasted to English culture and politics.

We report a case of extramammary Paget's disease with underlying adenocarcinoma simulating breast carcinoma of the vulva. An 82-year-old woman was found to have a 5 × 3-cm bulky tumor located in the left labium major, infiltrating to the clitoris, left labium minor, and left lateral tissue of the vulva. Small biopsy of the vulva showed intraepidermal proliferation of Paget cells. The patient underwent wide local excision of the vulvar tumor and dissection of left inguinal lymph nodes. Histopathological examination of the resected specimens revealed that Paget cells were distributed singly or tended to form small nests in the epidermis, and that association of these cells with the underlying carcinoma invading to the subcutis could be seen. The underlying carcinoma was composed of squamoid solid nests with central necrotic debris, mimicking ‘comedocarcinoma’ of the breast. In other areas, the tumor cells were present in tubular formations and solid cords reminiscent of invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast. Immunohistochemically, the Paget cells and the underlying carcinoma cells were positive for carcinoembryonic antigen, epithelial membrane antigen, estrogen receptors, and glandular keratins except for CK 20. We speculate that our case is vulvar Paget's disease presenting as a manifestation of underlying breast carcinoma of the vulva, which might have arisen from either the ectopic breast tissue or anogenital mammary-like glands.

Paget’s disease of the breast is a rare pathology resulting from abnormal proliferation of glandular epithelial cells in the nipple–areolar epidermis. The disease is named after James Paget, a pathologist and surgeon, who reported a relationship between a nipple rash and mammary gland tumors in 1874. Early diagnosis may be quite difficult. Histopathology can give the definitive diagnosis and the treatment depends upon the presence or absence of an associated breast lump. The treatment options include simple lumpectomy, mastectomy or radical mastectomy depending upon the lump (cancer) in the diseased breast. Herein, we present a case of Paget’s disease of the breast presented with a long history of nipple eczema.

In the days before Christmas 1805, William Thomas Fitzgerald's Nelson's Tomb; a Poem made its appearance in London book shops. Fitzgerald was one of the foremost loyalist versifiers of his day—and had previously published an ode to Nelson after the Battle of the Nile. When he took pen in hand, Britain was mourning Nelson's recent death at Trafalgar. Nelson's Tomb then, considered the manner in which Britons would mark his passing. Nelson's funeral would be, Fitzgerald boasted, “no hireling pageant.”Fitzgerald's words conveyed the contemporary loyalist sense that the funeral for Lord Nelson would be genuine, ordered, harmonious, and widely acceptable—that it would avoid the accusations of artificiality and the expressions of dissent that had greeted previous patriotic pageants such as the Naval Thanksgiving of 1797. At first glance, Fitzgerald's expectation would seem to accord with the recent orthodoxy concerning state spectacle in Britain during the wars of 1793–1815, an orthodoxy holding not only that the public pageants of the period were an important manifestation of the particular brand of patriotism that loyalists were interested in marketing but also that the product itself had unifying and socially cohesive effects. But Nelson's funeral—which was held on 9 January 1806 and drew crowds of between twenty and thirty thousand people—has not been widely treated as a loyalist spectacle, largely because those who have considered it have joined Linda Colley in recognizing its apparently iconoclastic nature. Colley was attentive to the state pageants of the period; they featured in her argument for the privileging of a cult of monarchy in officially consecrated expressions of British nationalism.
