Gegenstand der Arbeit sind verschiedene Aspekte der Morphosyntax und Tonologie im Buli, einer in Ghana (Upper East Region nahe der Grenze zu Burkina Faso) gesprochenen Gursprache des Niger-Kongo-Phylums, die bisher nur unzureichend beschrieben wurde. Die grammatische Beschreibung gibt einen umfangreichen Einblick in das sprachliche System des Buli und umfasst Kapitel zu den folgenden Themen: Phonologie, Nominalklassensystem, Pronominalsystem, Komplexe Nominalphrasen und nominale Syntagmen, Verbsystem. Dies geschieht in erster Linie anhand des in Wiaga gesprochenen Buli, wird aber durch die Bezugnahme auf andere Dialekte sowie auf verwandte Gursprachen ergänzt, beispielsweise hinsichtlich der Bewertung tonaler Divergenzen in Nominalklassensuffixen oder in Assoziativkonstruktionen. Die autosegmental angelegte Tonstudie verfolgt keine theoretischen Ziele, sondern hat sich unmittelbar aus dem Bedarf einer adäquaten Beschreibung der synchronen Sprache ergeben, in der Ton sowohl in lexikalischer als auch in grammatischer Hinsicht ganz zentrale Aufgaben übernimmt. Dabei wurden neben regelmäßigen Ton–Sandhi-Erscheinungen (Tieftonausbreitung) auch interessante Phänomene an den Schnittstellen der Phonologie zur Syntax und zur Semantik-Pragmatik vorgefunden, z.B. die tonale Kongruenz bestimmter Verbformen mit der Diskursrolle des Subjekts (+/- Diskurspartizipant, d.h. 1./2. Person vs. 3. Person) oder das Vorkommen eines Grenztons an äußerungsfinalen Morphemen, zu denen auch die Klassensuffixe indefiniter Substantive und enklitische Objektpronomen am Verb gehören. Im Rahmen der morphosyntaktischen Analysen wurde unter anderem ein aus typologischer Sicht spannender nominaler Kompositionstyp identifiziert, der sich neben seinen strukturellen Eigenschaften auch durch eine spezifische possessive Semantik auszeichnet und vermutlich an der Entwicklung von attributiven (qualifizierenden) Adjektiven und eines von zwei Zahlwörtern für ‘eins’ beteiligt war.<br>This work deals with different aspects of the morphosyntax and tonology in Buli, a Gur language of the Niger-Congo-Phylum, which is spoken in Ghana (Upper East Region near the border to Burkina Faso) and has so far been described insufficiently. The grammatical description provides an extensive insight into the linguistic system of Buli and contains chapters concerning the following topics: phonology, noun class system, pronominal system, complex noun phrases and nominal syntagmata, and verb system. It is primarily based on the Buli variant spoken in Wiaga and supplemented by reference to other dialects as well as to related Gur languages, for instance with regard to tonal divergencies in noun class suffixes and in associative constructions. Following an autosegmental model, the tonal study does not aim at theoretic enhancement, but results directly from the need of an adequate description of the synchronic language in which tone plays an important role in lexicon and grammar. Besides regular Tone-Sandhi (Low tone spreading), interesting phenomena at the phonology/syntax interface as well as at the phonology/semantics-pragmatics interface were observed – e.g. some verb forms displaying tonal agreement with the discourse role of the subject (+/- discourse participant, i.e. 1st / 2nd vs. 3rd person) or the appearance of a boundary tone on utterance-final morphemes, including the noun class suffixes of indefinite nouns and the enclitic object pronouns at the verb. In the course of the morphosyntactic analysis, a typologically remarkable nominal compound type was identified that is distinguished by structural features as well as by specific possessive semantics and can be assumed to be involved in the development of attributive (qualifying) adjectives and one of two numerals with the meaning ‘one’.

This thesis explores the working realities of gay police officers and performers in relation to ‘gay-friendly’/‘gay-hostile’ worksites and embodied sexual identity, developing an understanding of the meanings gay workers attach to their working lives by mobilising conceptual resources primarily from sociology. Deep seated assumptions pervade current perceptions regarding gay male sexuality and certain occupations. The idea is that there are gay industries like fashion, nursing and the performing arts. In contrast, occupations such as the police and the armed forces are often seen as homophobic, yet a dearth of academic research investigates the lived experiences of gay men located within perceived ‘gay friendly’ or ‘gay hostile’ worksites. Acknowledging this as a missed opportunity for developing empirical insight, I bring to the fore the work realities of some of these overlooked people. Taking the performing arts as an example of a ‘gay-friendly’ occupation, the police as an example of a ‘gay-hostile’ occupation, and drawing on in-depth interview data with 20 gay performers/police officers, I show that the perspectives and experiences of these men allow us to nuance existing research on how LGB employees understand, value and experience ‘gay-friendly’ workplaces, an emerging construct in the organisation studies literature. Focusing on the significance of embodied, sexual identity for the performance of the occupational roles of interest allows this study to consider the relationship between gender and sexuality at work. Literature on the gendered nature of work along with the promising literature on (homo)sexuality in the workplace have proceeded relatively separately, with the exception of the literature on sexualized labour and the commodification of women's (assumed hetero)sexuality in sales-service work (Tyler, 1997). The effect is that the experience and performance of gender and/in/through sexuality at work has been neglected as a topic of empirical investigation. Although sociologists argue that sexuality cannot be understood without reference to gender, and vice versa, few organizational scholars explore the experiences of work with this in mind. This thesis addresses this gap in knowledge. It brings together the perspectives of gay performers and police officers and highlights the prevalence of a „gender imperative‟ throughout the day-to-day lives of these workers. In detailing the workplace experiences of my participants, this thesis also builds on existing studies that tend to focus solely on the general working lives of gay employees. Gay workers face important contextual issues relating to 'passing', 'coming out' and homophobia. Although these are key areas of interest to existing literature, studies so far fail to address these concepts in detail with reference to specific occupational settings. In other words, the research contributes to the area of lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) disclosure and management at work. Stigma-based models (Goffman, 1963) are particularly useful here in framing some of the empirical insights of my research.

L'investigation du système La4TI3O12-LaTiO3 a permis de mettre en évidence une nouvelle série homologue de formulation LanTin-xO3n. Les structures de ces phases ont été caractérisées par diffraction des rayons X sur poudre et par microscopie électronique en transmission. Elles dérivent de différents polytypes de perovskites hexagonales et présentent une distorsion structurale due a la rotation coopérative des octaèdres autour de leurs axes ternaires. Une nouvelle serie de composes Ba2MM' F7Cl (M, M' = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Zn), dont les structures ont été déterminées par diffraction des rayons X sur monocristal, a été par ailleurs mis en évidence. Une étude comparative des propriétés structurales et magnétiques avec celles des composés de la série BaMF4 a été effectuée (filiation structurale résultant de différentes rotations coopératives des octaèdres, mesures d' aimantation sur poudre et monocristal, détermination des structures magnétiques de Ba2Co2F7Cl et Ba2Ni2F7Cl par diffraction des neutrons). Un nouveau chlorofluorure du cuivre a également été caractérise sur le plan structural et magnétique. Dans ce cas, une filiation structurale avec la structure de l'apatite et avec celle de phases derivees est proposée.

This master’s thesis deals with designs and implementation of systems for music cover recognition. The introduction part is devoted to the calculation parameters from audio signal using Music Information Retrieval techniques. Subsequently, various forms of cover versions and musical aspects that cover versions share are defined. The thesis also deals in detail with the creation and distribution of a database of cover versions. Furthermore, the work presents methods and techniques for comparing and processing the calculated parameters. Attention is then paid to the OTI method, CSM calculation and methods dealing with parameter selection. The next part of the thesis is devoted to the design of systems for recognizing cover versions. Then there are compared systems already designed for recognizing cover versions. Furthermore, the thesis describes machine learning techniques and evaluation methods for evaluating the classification with a special emphasis on artificial neural networks. The last part of the thesis deals with the implementation of two systems in MATLAB and Python. These systems are then tested on the created database of cover versions.

Increasing traffic volumes in the Internet put strict requirements to the architectureof optical core networks. The exploding number of Internet users, andmassive increase in Internet content consumption forces carriers to constantlyupgrade and transform their core networks in order to cope with the trafficgrowth. The choice of both physical components and transport protocols inthe core network is crucial in order to provide satisfactorily performance.Data traffic in the core network consists of a wide variety of protocols.OTN is a digital wrapper technology, responsible for encapsulating existingframes of data, regardless of native protocol, and adding additional overheadfor addressing, OAM and error control. The wrapped signal is thentransported directly over wavelengths in the optical transport network. Thecommon OTN wrapper overhead makes it possible to monitor and controlthe signals, regardless of the protocol type being transported.OTN is standardized by the ITU through a series of recommendations,the two most important being ITU-T G.709 - "Interfaces for the OpticalTransport Network", and ITU-T G.872 - "Architecture of the Optical TransportNetwork". OTN uses a flexible TDM hierarchy in order to provide highwavelength utilization. The TDM hierarchy makes it possible to performswitching at various sub-wavelength bit rates in network nodes.An introduction to OTN and an overview of recent progress in OTNstandardization is given in the thesis. An OTN switch which utilizes theflexible multiplexing hierarchy of OTN is proposed, and its characteristics istested in a network scenario, comparing it to the packet switched alternative.Simulation results reveal that OTN switching doesn’t provide any performancebenefits compared to packet switching in the core network. OTNswitches do however provide bypass of intermediate IP routers, reducing therequirements for router processing power in each network node. This reducesoverall cost, and improves network scalability.An automatically reconfigurable OTN switch which rearranges link subcapacitiesbased on differences in output buffer queue lengths is also proposedand simulated in the thesis. Simulation results show that the reconfigurableOTN switch has better performance than both pure packet switching andregular OTN switching in the network scenario.

Abstract The present dissertation analyzes the role of the fairy tale in the literary works of the Czech author Ota Pavel. Ota Pavel (1930–1973) started as a sports reporter and later became a popular and esteemed writer of fiction, mainly short stories. His works have been translated to many languages, among them Swedish. The study consists of a biographical reading of Ota Pavel’s texts and a discussion of the function of the fairy tale in his stories. My analysis of his literary development and use of various prose elements is based on narratological theories of the fairy tale – Karel Čapek’s motifs and fairytale characters, Gérard Genette’s paratexts and Vladimir Propp’s functions and dramatis personae – and includes remarks on the function of diminutives, etc. Ota Pavel is also viewed in the context of the literary landscape of his time – the 1960s and 1970s – and the reception of his work is discussed. Pavel’s stories contain a number of characteristic features which together form his unique style: direct allusions and references to fairy tales--for example, fairies and witches – and the linguistic markers and distinctive use of the narrator’s voice. One of the most common characters in Ota Pavel’s work is the hero, who, often with the assistance of magical objects or supernatural helpers, defeats supernatural antagonists or solves impossible tasks. Developing and growing as he – the hero is usually male–strives toward his goal, Pavel’s protagonist struggles not with dragons and giants, but with himself and his own difficulties and misfortunes. Earlier research refers to Ota Pavel’s two “genres”: sports prose and retrospective, or “memory” prose. This study shows that the boundary between the two is fluid, and that all Pavel’s work might be called memory prose. The title of this thesis – Ota Pavels sagovärld (The Fairytale World of Ota Pavel) – indicates the perspective from which the subject is approached. On the one hand, it alludes to the influence of the fairy tale on Pavel’s work, while on the other it points to the fact that his own life was such that he sometimes needed to retreat into a fantasy world of his own. In this thesis, opti-acoustic stereo imaging, which is the deployment of two-dimensional (2D) high frequency imaging sonar with the electro-optical camera in calibrated stereo configuration, is studied.
Optical cameras give detailed images in clear waters. However, in dark or turbid waters, information coming from electro-optical sensor is insufficient for accurate scene perception. Imaging sonars, also known as acoustic cameras, can provide enhanced target details under these scenarios. To illustrate these visibility conditions, a 2D high frequency imaging sonar simulator as well as an underwater optical image simulator is developed. A computationally efficient algorithm is also proposed for the post-processing of the returned sonar signals.
Where optical visibility allows, integration of the sonar and optical images effectively provides binocular stereo vision capability and enables the recovery of three-dimensional (3D) structural information. This requires solving the feature correspondence problem for these completely different sensing modalities. Geometrical interpretation of this problem is examined on the simulated optical and sonar images. Matching the features manually, 3D reconstruction performance of opti-acoustic system is also investigated. In addition, motion estimation from opti-acoustic image sequences is studied.
Finally, a method is proposed to improve the degraded optical images with the help of sonar images. First, a nonlinear mapping is found to match local the features in opti-acoustical images. Next, features in the sonar image is mapped to the optical image using the transformation. Performance of the mapping is evaluated for different scene geometries.

BACKGROUND: The need to create controlled vocabularies such as ontologies for knowledge organization and access has been widely recognized in various domains. Despite the indispensable need of thorough domain knowledge in ontology construction, most software tools for ontology construction are designed for knowledge engineers and not for domain experts to use. The differences in the opinions of different domain experts and in the terminology usages in source literature are rarely addressed by existing software. METHODS: OTO software was developed based on the Agile principles. Through iterations of software release and user feedback, new features are added and existing features modified to make the tool more intuitive and efficient to use for small and large data sets. The software is open source and built in Java. RESULTS: Ontology Term Organizer (OTO; http://biosemantics.arizona.edu/OTO/) is a user-friendly, web-based, consensus-promoting, open source application for organizing domain terms by dragging and dropping terms to appropriate locations. The application is designed for users with specific domain knowledge such as biology but not in-depth ontology construction skills. Specifically OTO can be used to establish is_a, part_of, synonym, and order relationships among terms in any domain that reflects the terminology usage in source literature and based on multiple experts' opinions. The organized terms may be fed into formal ontologies to boost their coverage. All datasets organized on OTO are publicly available. CONCLUSION: OTO has been used to organize the terms extracted from thirty volumes of Flora of North America and Flora of China combined, in addition to some smaller datasets of different taxon groups. User feedback indicates that the tool is efficient and user friendly. Being open source software, the application can be modified to fit varied term organization needs for different domains.

Within the framework of this research, the complex geological history of the Pan African-Volta basin has been systematically reconstructed. Based on a broad review of literature and new data, 5 stages of geological-tectonic development have been identified. For the first time a systematic review of the mineral potential of the Pan-African Volta Basin was executed. Known and potentially existing mineralization have been related to the geotectonic history and metallogenetic conclusions have been drawn.
Based on the findings of this research, the folded thrust belt located at the eastern rim of the Volta basin has been identified as the most prospective area for the ultramafic rocks with chromite, nickel mineralization and PGEs, hydrothermal gold and banded iron formation (BIF) but this will require further work.

Cloud computing is a quickly growing field in modern computing science where new technologies arise every day. One of the latest trends in cloud computing is container based technology, which allows applications to run in a reproducible and stateless fashion without requiring manually installed dependencies. Another trend in computer science is DevOps, a methodology where developers take part in the operations process. DevOps popularise the use of CI/CD workflows, where automatic pipelines run tests and scripts on new code. A container orchestrator, like Kubernetes, can be used to control and modify containers. Kubernetes allows integrating multiple third-party applications that can monitor performance, analyze logs, and much more. Kubernetes can be integrated into the CI/CD system to utilise its container orchestration perks. Building containers inside a container can cause security issues because of native security flaws with OCI build tools. This thesis aims to look at these issues and analyse the field of container orchestrated OCI build tools using Kubernetes and OCI build tools. We also discover how to develop a test suite that can reliably test container orchestrated OCI build tools and export metrics. The thesis lastly compares different Dockerfile compliant Build tools with the test suite to find out which has the best performance and caching. The compared build tools are BuildKit, Kaniko, Img and Buildah and overall BuildKit and Kaniko are the fastest and most resource effective build tools. It is not obvious which build tool that is the most secure. Kaniko, which is a root container requires no privileges and is therefore tough to break out of but an eventual breakout will give the attacker root access to the host machine. BuildKit and Img only requires unconfined SECcomp and AppArmor which will make a container breakout more probable, even though less than Buildah which must be run in a privileged container. Since they can run rootless, the attacker will only have the same access to the host as that user in case of a container breakout.

This thesis is a sociolinguistic study that addresses the link between M��ori identity and the
ability to speak and understand te reo M��ori (the M��ori language). This study goes right to
the heart of the relationship between language and identity. The international literature
regarding this relationship is considerable and suggests that for many of the indigenous and
minority language communities around the world, such a link is an imperative. It is a view
that is also reflected in the M��ori literature. As a first step this study questions that
proposition and explores the views of M��ori on this matter which allows us to gain insights
into the ways in which M��ori in the early 21st century view their language and their identity.
In a second phase this study looks to explore the idea of encouraging and supporting non-
M��ori ��� those who have no M��ori whakapapa (geneology) ��� into learning to speak te reo
M��ori as a means of assisting te reo revitalisation, through increasing the numbers of
speakers of te reo. Understandings around the importance of te reo to M��ori identity have had
a huge influence on the ways in which M��ori reacted to this proposition.
This project is of direct relevance to M��ori, who have been extremely concerned for several
decades about the loss of the M��ori language and its ongoing threatened status. M��ori have
been directly involved in measures to preserve the language both on the national stage and at
local levels. More than 600 people contributed to this study and both quantitative and
qualitative modes of analysis were employed at different stages of this study. The quantitative
data from the survey was analysed using the SPSS1 programme. Interpretive content analysis
and narrative analysis that utilised tikanga or models of M��ori understandings of identity, and
sociolinguistic theory exposed a number of themes that are used to illustrate the findings of
this study.

L'ochratoxine A (OTA) est un métabolite secondaire produit par des espèces appartenant aux genres Aspergillus et Penicillium qui a été liée à certaines conditions avec des effets néphrotoxiques, immunotoxiques, tératogènes et cancérogènes. La présence d'OTA dans le café vert a été détectée depuis 1974 et sa transmission à la boisson a été mise en évidence en 1989. La torréfaction du café est un procédé thermique qui peut avoir un effet sur la teneur en OTA, avant 1988, on pensait que l'OTA était détruite pendant la torréfaction, mais après plusieurs chercher sont des résultats contradictoires publiés dans % de réduction (de 0 à 100%). Plusieurs auteurs émis les hypothèses suivantes pour expliquer cette réduction : Isomérisation de la toxine dans la position C3 formant un diastéréoisomère moins toxique (Studer-Rohr et al, 1995 et Bruinink et al, 1997), protection de la dégradation d’OTA par l'humidité du grain (Boudra et al 1995; Blanc et al, 1998 et Stegen et al, 2001.), existence de réactions avec le café toxine parent ou réarrangements de la molécule OTA à températures de torréfaction (Suarez-Quiroz et al, 2005). Une autre étude sur la dégradation thermique de OTA pure a montré la formation de deux composés moins toxiques, 14-(R)-ochratoxine A et de la 14-descarboxi-ochratoxine A (Cramer et al, 2008). Parce qu'il n'y a pas de données concluantes sur l'effet de la torréfaction sur l'OTA dans le grain et le besoin de bases scientifiques pour établir des règles pour l'exportation de café vert, l'objectif de ce travail était d'étudier l'impact des différents types de torréfaction sur la stabilité thermique de l'OTA dans le café et l'élucidation chimique des produits de transformation. Deux niveaux de contamination ont été obtenus à partir de café contaminés artificiellement par Aspergillus westerdijkiae (5,3 et 57,2 ppb d'OTA). Ces lots sont grillés à 230° en utilisant deux méthodes : La torréfaction à tambour (TR) et à lit fluidisé (LF). Les échantillons ont été prélevés toutes les 3 min pour TR et chaque min 0,9 pour LF pour quantifier la valeur résiduelle d¡¯OTA. Les résultats ont montré que le procédé de torréfaction par TR (plus lent) était plus efficace que la FL dans l'élimination de l'OTA (67% et 36%, respectivement, pour une torréfaction moyenne). Nous avons déterminé le taux de dégradation thermique de OTA pure et de l'OTA mélangée avec les composants du café (5 sucres, 3 acides aminés, la caféine et les acides chlorogéniques), montrant que les interactions se déroulent en fonction des conditions de pH et de pKa des composants testés, dans ce cas, en influant sur la réactivité et la vitesse de dégradation de l'OTA. Un produit de transformation (PT) a été observé sur les chromatogrammes obtenus à partir de l'interaction de l'OTA avec les composants du café. Des tests d'alcalinisation et de chauffage de OTA pure ont confirmé que le PT provient de la modification structurale de la molécule d'OTA et n’est pas un produit de l'interaction avec les composants naturels du café. L'effet du pH et de la température sur l'extraction de l'OTA dans le café contaminé a été testé dans ce travail, les résultats ont montré une plus grande extraction de la toxine à un pH de 8,5 et 6°. Au même pH à 20° il y avait une plus importante formation d'un produit de transformation. Le PT a été purifié pour mener à bien sa caractérisation chimique. La nature chimique du produit de transformation, les données spectroscopiques telles que celles obtenus sous UV-Vis (max: 237nm), l'affinité avec la phase mobile de l'OTA, l'analyse de l'alcalinisation (phénomène de régénération de l'OTA et PT), l'analyse d’isotopes stables (SIDA’s) et le spectre de masse (ion moléculaire M+1: 420 m/z), suggèrent que la structure de le PT d'OTA durant le processus de torréfaction correspond à un analogue de l'OTA qui conserve son groupe carboxyle acide et conformément à la fragmentation correspond à la Hydroxy-ochratoxine A (OH-OTA), avec des quantités mineures d’ OTA et de ses isomères<br>Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a secondary metabolite produced by species belonging to the genera Aspergillus and Penicillium and this toxin has been associated with certain illnesses within nephrotoxic effects, immunotoxic, teratogenic and carcinogenic. The presence of OTA in green coffee was detected in 1974 and its transmission into the beverage was made evident in 1989. Roasting coffee is a thermal process that have an effect on the OTA content. Before 1988 it was thought that the OTA was destroyed during roasting, but after several investigations, results published are contradictory results published in the % reduction (from 0 to 100%). Several authors have established hypothesis that try explain this reduction: Isomerization of the toxin in the C3 position forming a less toxic diastereomers (Studer-Rohr et al., 1995 and Bruinink et al., 1997), Protection of grain moisture degradation OTA (Boudra et al., 1995; Blanc et al., 1998 and Stegen et al., 2001), Existence of reactions with the parent toxin coffee or rearrangements of the OTA molecule roasting temperatures (200¡ã and 250¡ãC) (Su¨¢rez-Quiroz et al., 2005). Another study on thermal degradation of pure OTA showed the formation of two less toxic compounds 14 - (R)-ochratoxin A and the 14-descarboxi-Ochratoxin A (Cramer et al., 2008).Because there are no conclusive data regarding the effect of roasting on OTA in grain and the need for scientific bases for establishing regulations for export of green coffee, the objective of this work was to study the impact of different types of roasting on the thermal stability of OTA in coffee and chemical elucidation of the transformation products.Two levels of contamination were obtained by the contamination of coffee with a strain of A. westerdijkiae (5.3 and 57.2 ppb of OTA). These lots were roasted at 230 ¡ã C using two methods: Drum rotation (TR) and fluidized bed (LF). Samples were taken every 3 min from TR and every 0.9 min for LF to quantify the residual OTA. The results showed that in roasting process by TR (slower), it was more effective than with LF in the elimination of OTA (67% and 36%, respectively, for a medium roast). The thermal degradation rate of pure OTA and of OTA mixed with the components of coffee (5 sugars, 3 amino acids, caffeine and chlorogenic acids), were determined, showing that interactions took place dependent themselves on the conditions of pH and pKa values of the components tested, in this case by influencing by the reactivity and the rate of degradation of OTA. A transformation product (TP) was observed in the chromatograms obtained from the interaction of OTA with the components of coffee. A test of alkalinization and warming of pure OTA confirmed that the TP comes from the structural modification of the OTA molecule and is not a product of interaction with the natural components of coffee. The pH and temperature showed an effect in extraction of OTA in contaminated coffee, the results show better extraction of the toxin at pH 8.5 at 60 ¡ãC. At the same pH at 20 ¡ãC, it was shown a greater formation of the transformation product.The TP was purified to carry out its chemical characterization. The chemical nature of compound transformation and spectroscopic data such as UV-Vis (¦Ëmax: 237nm), the affinity with the mobile phase of the OTA, the analysis of alkalinization (OTA regeneration phenomenon and TP) analysis of stable isotopes (SIDA's) and the mass spectrum (molecular ion M +: 420 m / z), suggest that structurally the TP of OTA during the roasting process corresponds to an analogue of OTA which retains its acidic carboxyl group and in accordance to fragmentation corresponds to the Hydroxi- Ochratoxin A (OH-OTA), as well as minor amounts of OTA and its isomers

com garantias de QoS (Quality of Service), ocasionadas pelo crescimento do tráfego
da Internet, traz um grande desafio na área de redes de telecomunicação. As redes
ópticas de transporte se apresentam como uma solução para as elevadas taxas de
transmissão.
No intuito de tornar as redes de núcleo mais flexíveis e ajustadas à dinamicidade e
heterogeneidade das demandas, a ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union
Telecommunication Standardization Sector) desenvolve uma série de recomendações abordando as mais diversas características das redes OTN (Optcial Transport Network), no contexto das redes de núcleo, determinando suas funcionalidades.
Esta dissertação tem como objetivo desenvolver uma proposta de arquitetura OTN
Switch, com o funcionamento da cross-conexão e da multiplexação de sinais ópticos
e digitais presentes nas redes OTN. Para tal, sua arquitetura basea-se nas
recomendações geradas pela ITU-T, tornando-a capaz de prover interoperabilidade
com equipamentos já existentes.

Elle porte sur l'évaluation des Organisations de solidarité internationales françaises (OSI), acteurs majeurs engagées en grand nombre dans l'action humanitaire, ainsi que dans beaucoup d'autres domaines, pour l'aide au développement du Vietnam, et ce, dès les années 1975. Dans un premier temps, elle prend en considération leurs différents aspects : leurs origines, leurs structures, leurs moyens, leurs pratiques, leurs conditions de travail, leurs modes d'intervention au siège comme sur le terrain. Dans un deuxième temps, elle propose, à l'appui des recherches sur leur diversité et leurs interventions, une réflexion sur les problèmes qui les concernent :les atouts qu'elles possèdent sur les autres acteurs, les faiblesses qui limitent leurs actions, les rapports qu'elles entretiennent avec les différents partenaires, les rôles qu'elles jouent dans l'accompagnement des politiques sociales. On one level, it takes into consideration these various aspects: origin, structure, resources, practices, employment conditions, and modes of intervention at the national office as well as in the field. On the other level, it indicates gratitude for the diversity study and the implemented actions taken. It also indicates the assets they have above other participants, the weaknesses that limit theirs actions, the relations they have established with other partners, and the role they play in instituting social policies for the country. The objective is to clarify the factors that constitute and affect this community, and to indicate how they can obtain the objective of thejr function in the particular Vietnamese context marked by the seizure of a Party Government and the presence of a great number of international actors. Over 300 French NGOs working in Vietnam is an impressive phenomenon. Their contribution to the promotion of Franco-Vietnamese relations is undeniable, However, this motivated and competent community has suffered from jnsufficient attention from the political protagonists of the two countries. The thesis provides comprehensive overview of transformations in the telecom industry that have been taking place globally, explaining the drivers that led to inception of free or cheaper Internet-based services, their business models. It then narrows down to the thorough analysis of the Czech market, capturing the implications that over-the-top services have on business strategy of the major Czech telco players. The analysis is strongly supported by industry reports, statistics and quantitative research. The primary research adds in telco customers' perspectives, usage and value perception of over-the-top services, as well as their satisfaction with respective telco services and their pricing. Derived findings identify major developments and trends in the Czech telco market; they also suggest compelling observations for related businesses.

Le syndrome branchio-oto-renal (bor), transmis selon le mode autosomique dominant, est defini par l'association d'une surdite, d'anomalies branchiales, otiques et renales. Les anomalies branchiales consistent en des kystes ou fistules cervicales, les anomalies otiques peuvent toucher les 3 compartiments de l'oreille (externe, moyenne ou interne), les anomalies renales peuvent aller de la simple hypoplasie jusqu'a l'agenesie renale bilaterale. Par etude de liaison genetique, l'intervalle de localisation, sur le chromosome 8, du gene bor a d'abord ete estime a 7 cm. L'analyse d'un rearrangement chromosomique chez un patient nous a permis de reduire sa taille a 500 kb. Par une approche de clonage positionnel et un sequencage exhaustif de la region candidate, nous avons isole un gene bor candidat. Le produit de ce gene a une sequence predite de 559 acides amines qui contient une partie c-terminale, eyahr, de 271 acides amines, fortement homologue au produit du gene de developpement de la drosophile, eyes absent (eya). Le gene humain, nomme eya1, comprend 17 exons et code pour plusieurs transcrits generes par epissage alternatif. L'identification de differentes mutations dans la region codante de eya1 chez des patients atteints du syndrome bor a permis d'etablir que ce gene candidat est bien responsable du tableau clinique. La mise en evidence de mutations dans le gene eya1, chez des patients atteints du syndrome bo (sans atteinte renale) prouve que ces deux syndromes constituent des variants alleliques resultant de l'atteinte du meme gene. Deux autres genes humains (eya2 et eya3) ont ete isoles sur la base de leur homologie avec eyahr. L'analyse du profil d'expression de l'homologue murin, eyal, suggere que ce gene joue un role non seulement dans la morphogenese de l'oreille et du rein, mais aussi dans les dernieres etapes de differenciation et de maturation du neuroepithelium de l'oreille interne.

The increases in communication bandwidth provided by fiber optics and high-speed switching technologies have shifted the limiting factor in data throughput from the communication
link to the communication processing. The communication processing for open systems interconnection (OSI) in particular is quite heavy due to the inclusion of data transfer syntax conversion in order to assure interoperability between different machine
types. In this thesis report, two multiprocessing architectures are considered as protocol processing engines for OSI communications.
The conventional approach is to have the host computer perform the protocol processing
especially for the higher layers. However, the protocol processing burden at communication rates of hundreds or even thousands of million bits per second places such a heavy processing burden on the host that this becomes undesirable. The protocol processing engines act as front-end systems performing most of the OSI protocol processing,
including the transfer syntax conversion, on behalf of the host. A multiprocessor approach was selected because the required amount of processing power can be supplied using lower processor technology than for an uniprocessor approach.
The protocol engines were designed based on a processing model in which different packets are processed at the same time in different processors. The protocol engines are designed to perform the protocol processing for OSI layers 2 through 6. The Intel Galileo, inspired by the well-known Arduino board, is a development board with many possibilities because of its strength. The Galileo is has an Intel processor capable of running GNU/Linux and can be connected to the internet, which opens up the possibility to be controlled remotely. The programming language that comes with the Intel Galileo is the same as for the Arduino development boards, and is therefore very limited and does not utilize the Galileo’s entire strength. Our aim with this project is to integrate a more suitable programming language; a language that can make better use of the relatively powerful processor to control the components of the board. The programming language of choice is Erlang, and the reason is obvious. Erlang can be described as a process-oriented programming language based on the functional programming paradigm and its power in concurrency. The result of the project was the successful integration of a complete version of GNU/Linux on the board and the cross-compilation of Erlang/OTP onto the board. Having Erlang running on the system opens up many possibilities for future work, amongst all: creating Erlang programs for the Intel Galileo, integrating an effective API, and measuring the pros and cons of using Erlang on an Intel Galileo.<br>Intel Galileo är ett utvecklingskort som bygger på Arduinos succe. Den kommer med en kraftigare processor jämfort med Arduino Uno, och den har möjlighet att kunna köra GNU/Linux. Den har också en port för att kunna kopplas till internet och på så sätt kommunicera med andra enheter. Programmeringsspråket som rekommenderas för Intel Galileo är densamma som används för Arduinos utvecklingskort. Det finns däremot en möjlighet att kunna kombinera utvecklingskortet med ett programmeringsspråk som kan erbjuda mer funktionalitet och fortfarande vara enkelt. Vårt val hamnade på Erlang för den är ett funktionellt språk och har möjlighet att hantera olika processer. Tanken är att kunna behandla olika komponenter kopplade till utvecklingskortet som processer, som kan kommunicera med andra komponenter och med internet. Projektarbetet bestod av att undersöka ifall det är möjligt att kunna kombinera Erlang/OTP med Intel Galileon samt skriva en guide för hur implementeringen gick till. Att kombinera de två var lyckat och det öppnar upp möjligheter för fortsätta arbeten och försök.

In a recent paper, we compared the diffraction and geometrical optical transfer functions (OTFs) of an optical imaging system, and showed that the GOTF approximates the DOTF within 10% when a primary aberration is about two waves or larger [Appl. Opt., 55, 3241-3250 (2016)]. In this paper, we determine and compare the times to calculate the DOTF by autocorrelation or digital autocorrelation of the pupil function, and by a Fourier transform (FT) of the point-spread function (PSF); and the GOTF by a FT of the geometrical PSF and its approximation, the spot diagram. Our starting point for calculating the DOTF is the wave aberrations of the system in its pupil plane, and the ray aberrations in the image plane for the GOTF. The numerical results for primary aberrations and a typical imaging system show that the direct integrations are slow, but the calculation of the DOTF by a FT of the PSF is generally faster than the GOTF calculation by a FT of the spot diagram.

O projeto foi desenvolvido em duas etapas: (1) a tradução, a adaptação transcultural e a retrotradução das escalas e (2) o estudo de confiabilidade e validade do questionário OCI-R em uma população clínica e em uma amostra não-clínica. Essas escalas têm como vantagem em relação as já existentes o fato de serem autorespondidas e de produzirem escores para categorias específicas de sintomas obsessivocompulsivos. Na primeira fase, a OCI e OCI-R, desenvolvidos no Centro para o Tratamento e Estudo de Ansiedade da Universidade da Pensilvânia, EUA foram traduzidas e a adaptadas para a língua portuguesa. As escalas foram inicialmente traduzidas para o português por dois psiquiatras bilíngües e retrotraduzidas por outros dois psiquiatras bilíngües de forma independente e em seguida, aplicadas em 15 portadores do Transtorno Obsessivo Compulsivo (TOC) com diferente escolaridade e intencionalmente selecionados para efetuar ajustes na linguagem. A versão final das escalas OCI e OCI-R foram aceitas pelo autor após o processo de retrotradução destas. As escalas mostraram-se de fácil compreensão e preenchimento pelos pacientes, podendo ser utilizadas em pacientes com TOC de diferentes classes econômicas e sociais. As escalas OCI e OCI-R, em suas versões adaptadas para o português do Brasil poderão auxiliar os profissionais de saúde no rastreamento de possíveis portadores de TOC e na avaliação da intensidade dos sintomas obsessivos compulsivos em pesquisa, e sua redução com diferentes métodos de tratamento. A tradução e a adaptação serão apresentadas no artigo nº. 1. A segunda etapa do projeto avaliou as propriedades psicométricas da versão brasileira da OCI-R em uma população clínica e em uma não clínica (controle). A validade e confiabilidade da versão para o Português do Brasil da escala Obsessive–Compulsive Inventory-Revised (OCI-R) foram examinadas em uma amostra clínica de 64 pacientes com Transtorno Obsessivo-Compulsivo (TOC), 33 pacientes com Fobia Social, 33 pacientes com Transtorno do Pânico e em uma amostra não clínica de 130 funcionários de um hospital geral. Foi verificado que as subescalas da OCI-R discriminam e avaliam a gravidade dos seis subtipos de sintomas de TOC. A confiabilidade teste-reteste foi examinada usando os dados dos 64 pacientes com TOC que completaram a OCI-R em dois diferentes momentos. Em cada amostra o escore total e os escores das subescalas demonstraram consistência interna de moderada a boa e boa validade concorrente e discriminante. Além disso, demonstrou ser sensível aos efeitos do tratamento cognitivo-comportamental em grupo. Nossos achados sugerem que a versão para o Português do Brasil da OCI-R mantêm as propriedades psicométricas da versão original. Os resultados foram comparados com os dados das versões da OCI-R em Espanhol e Alemão. Essa fase será apresentada no artigo nº. 2. A utilização da OCI-R em sua versão em português do Brasil poderá auxiliar os profissionais de saúde e os pacientes na triagem de pessoas com suspeita de TOC. Mais do que isto, seu uso poderá identificar os portadores de TOC clínico ou subclínico. Por se tratar de uma escala auto-respondida, facilita o conhecimento da doença mais cedo, o que é relevante, visto que os pacientes levam muitos anos para procurar tratamento para o TOC. Adicionalmente, ao empregarmos este instrumento, poderemos desenvolver e incrementar programas de prevenção e educação, assim como concentrar esforços nas ações de intervenção.<br>The aim of the present project was to translate and adapt the scales Obsessive- Compulsive Inventory (OCI) and Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised (OCI-R) to Brazilian Portuguese and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the OCI-R, which measures the severity of the obsessive-compulsive symptoms. The project was developed in two stages: (1) the translation, transcultural adaptation and back-translation of the scales and (2) the study of reliability and validity of the questionnaire OCI-R in a clinical population and in a non-clinical sample (controls). The advantages of those scales, compared to the existent ones, are: (a) they are selfreported and (b) they produce scores for specific categories of obsessive-compulsive symptoms. In the first stage, the OCI and OCI-R, developed by the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety, University of Pennsylvania, EUA were translated and adapted to the Brazilian Portuguese language. The scales were initially translated into Brazilian Portuguese by two bilingual psychiatrists and then independently back-translated by other two bilingual psychiatrists. The scales were then applied to 15 Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) patients, deliberately chosen from different educational levels, to make language adjustments. The author accepted the final version of the OCI and OCI-R scales after their back translation. Scales showed to be easy to understand and fill in by individuals and may be used with OCD patients of different socioeconomic levels. The OCI e OCI-R scales, in their version adapted to Brazilian Portuguese, can help health professionals in screening potential OCD patients assess the severity of obsessive-compulsive symptoms and the reduction of them through different treatments. The translation and the adaptation will be reported in the paper nº. 1. The second stage of the project evaluated the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the OCI-R in a clinical and in a non- clinical (controls) samples. The reliability and validity of the Brazilian Portuguese version of the Obsessive–Compulsive Inventory – Revised (OCI-R) were examined in a clinical sample of 64 patients with Obsessive- Compulsive Disorder (OCD), 33 patients with Social Phobia and 33 patients with Panic Disorder plus a non-clinical sample of 130 employees of a general hospital. Results indicate that the OCI-R is a valid measure for identifying and assessing the severity of the six symptom subtypes of OCD. In each sample the overall and subscale scores demonstrated moderate to good internal consistency and good convergent and divergent validity. Furthermore, in patients with OCD, the inventory showed sensitivity to Cognitive-Behavioral Group Therapy (CBGT). Our findings indicate that the Brazilian Portuguese version of the OCI-R retains the psychometric properties of its original version. These results were also compared with the results of validation of the Spanish and German OCI-R versions. That phase will be reported in the paper nº. 2. The OCI-R Brazilian Portuguese version can help health professionals and patients to screen potential people with OCD. More than this, its use can identify clinical or sub clinical OCD patients. As it is a self-report scale, it facilitates the early awareness of the disease, which is relevant because patients may take several years to seek treatment for OCD. Moreover, the use of this instrument can help to develop educational programs which could ameliorate prevention, as well as focus efforts in intervention actions.

In this paper the benchmark Unbalanced Tree Search (UTS) is ported and evaluated to the functional programming language Erlang. The purpose is to provide a portable benchmark that scales as the number of cores do in a system. Since Erlang is language built around concurrency language the speedup should prove to be interesting comparing to its competitors as the number of cores rise. This paper is written to describe how the algorithm works as well as what it has performed on a few different systems at SICS and presents the conclusions that can be drawn from them. Some questions remain unanswered however such as how well the benchmark performed on the Tilera64 because of some technical difficulties during the project. Also the results proved quite odd since there are possible bottlenecks in the performance making the speedup per added processor core somewhat limited. As a consequence of the strange behavior of the software some of the conclusions drawn from this thesis are mostly speculations.

Gli oli essenziali sono miscele naturali di composti volatili ottenute per distillazione di parti aree della pianta. Tra i più ricercati oli essenziali c’è anche quello di geranio, prodotto ricavato dalle foglie delle piante appartenenti al genere Pelargonium. Lo scopo di questa tesi è stato quello di individuare e valutare i principali descrittori sensoriali, in grado di caratterizzare i campioni di olio essenziale di geranio provenienti da diverse aree geografiche: Madagascar, Isola di Rèunion, Egitto e Cina. L’applicazione dell’analisi quantitativa-descrittiva QDA®, ha permesso di individuare sei attributi in grado di descrivere e soprattutto discriminare i campioni. Nell’intento di aiutare gli assaggiatori a sviluppare una terminologia appropriata e a valutare le intensità dei descrittori scelti su scale di misura, sono stati inoltre definiti degli standard di riferimento di supporto alla valutazione olfattiva. L'elaborazione statistica dei dati sensoriali mediante analisi di varianza ha evidenziato come gli attributi fiori freschi, citronella e fiori macerati siano quelli dotati di maggior capacità discriminante anche se non è stato possibile differenziare i campioni in funzione dell’origine geografica. Gli attributi selezionati attraverso la QDA® sono stati scelti in modo da risultare particolarmente caratterizzanti e di facile comprensione. Attraverso un lavoro di elaborazione anche semantica potrebbero essere utilizzati dalle aziende produttrici come leve per il supporto al marketing e come spunto per promuovere il prodotto, differenziarlo rispetto ai concorrenti oppure per un possibile miglioramento tecnologico e sensoriale del prodotto.

This master thesis examines the development of the two earlier independent IR protocols Z39.50 and SR (Search and Retrieve, ISO 10162/10163), now Z39.50/SR, from the beginning of the 80s to 1996 and their functionality in the client/server environment. Z39.50 applications in library systems will allow easy access to information regardless of platform or location. The use of Z39.50 will create a new user environment. Almost all the library systems of the market support the Z39.50 and surprisingly the use of it in Sweden lied on a very low leve! in 1996. This thesis was followed-up by an interview and a questioner among the Swedish Z39.50 users. They could see a huge potential of development concerning the future IR process. Z39.50 will change the libraries' traditional IR structure and the behaviour of the end-users.

Konceptet ämnar också att geScott konceptuella lösningar för framtida produkter.Scotts produktportfolio sträcker sig över kategorierna cykel,motorcykel, vintersport och löpning med mottot “innovation,technology and design”.Projektet har bestått av en analysfas, en kreativ fas och enpresentationsfas.Analysfasen har till stora delar bestått av användarstudier.Referensskidglasögon har testats, testmodeller byggts och testats,enkäter utförts och i den kreativa fasen har designförslag skissatsfram. Resultaten har analyserats och lett fram till en slutresultat.Slutdesignen är genom sin ram och totalvolym anpassad för OTGanvändare.Flera konceptuella funktioner och lösningar har tagitsfram: 1) Vidareutveckling av Scotts patenterade “Scott fi t-system”.2) Ett nytt strapsystem som ger användaren möjlighet att göra sinaskidglasögon personliga samt passar åkare som har “strappen”under hjälmen. 3) Ett nytt snabblinssystemskoncept. 4) Ett delvisnytt ventilationskoncept. 5) Ett nytt modulsystem som ger fördelarvad gäller användarens möjlighet till ett personligt utseende,produktion, försäljning, samarbetsmöjligheter och miljö.Förhoppningen är att en eller fl era av de konceptuella idéernaska komma att vidareutvecklas och användas i Scotts framtidaskidglasögonmodeller.

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology has enabled increased performance of wireless communication devices. The increased complexity associated with MIMO devices requires more realistic testing environments to ensure device performance. This testing can be accomplished by either very accurate but expensive anechoic chambers, less accurate but inexpensive mode-stirred chambers, or the newly introduced reconfigurable over-the-air chamber (ROTAC) that combines the benefits of both anechoic chambers and reverberation chambers. This work focuses on efficient optimization methods to quantify the performance of the ROTAC. First, an efficient optimization technique that combines convex optimization and a simple gradient descent algorithm is developed that can be applied to different ROTAC performance metrics. Plane wave synthesis is used to benchmark performance versus chamber complexity, where the complexity is defined in terms of chamber size and the number of ports in the chamber. Next, the optimization technique is used to study the spatial channel characteristics (power angular spectrum) of the chamber and the generation of arbitrary fading statistics inside the chamber. Lastly, simulation results are compared with practical hardware measurements to highlight the accuracy of the simulation model for the chamber. Overall, this work provides a comprehensive analysis for optimization of different ROTAC performance metrics.

D'abord, un logiciel portable de communications osi pour un reseau local est presente ou les aspects de portabilite et de flexibilite sont soulignes. L'environnement de developpement de protocoles est d'abord introduit, puis plus particulierement la couche session et l'interface utilisateur sont presentes. Le deuxieme projet concerne le terminal rnis-osi. Pour certains teleservices, le reseau du rnis ne represente que les trois premieres couches selon l'architecture osi et les teleservices correspondent aux applications du niveau 7. Afin d'assurer ce type de teleservices, l'architecture du rnis doit comporter les protocoles rnis ainsi qu'un ensemble de protocoles osi. Une coordination entre les protocoles d'osi et ceux du rnis devient alors necessaire. Cela nous a conduit a la conception d'une couche commune reseau pour rnis et osi. Cettte couche a pour but de fournir a ses utilisateurs le service reseau osi (iso8343). Nos connaissances du modele osi ont ete appliquees en particulier a la structuration de protocoles rnis selon des notions osi. Nous avons egalement developpe le module d'administration du terminal. ABB Power Grids Grid Integration, PGGI, deliver substations to external customers, the performed work is done in project form and all the projects are being tracked by several Key Performance Indicators, KPI. In this Thesis work one KPI will be investigated, which is OTD. The OTD is in form of 17 standardized milestones that are set from ABB to support the PGGI-project’s on-time-delivery. The problem that shall be investigated is the downward trend discovered regarding the OTD for the 17 milestones. This downward trend means that the PGGI-project’s ability to deliver on time is decreasing. To take on the problem a status analysis to achieve a picture of the current situation regarding the 17 milestones was done, the current situation is called As-Is. An analyze of the targeted situation regarding the milestones was also performed, which is called To-Be. When these two were made an analysis between them was also done. The result from this was that a gap between the As-Is and the To-Be situation exists. The reasons for this gap are; deficiencies in knowledge and lack of understanding regarding OTD, reporting, and unreliable data regarding the 17 milestones. Thereafter a roadmap was developed to suggest how the notified gap between As-Is and To-Be situation can be reduced and possibly be eliminated. This roadmap contains 7 improvement suggestion and an implementation plan for how some of the suggestions is recommended to be managed. This goes out to the company to perspicuous illustrate the shown gap and how to minimize it. Lean philosophy and Statistical Process Control laid as foundation for the developed improvement suggestions. An implementation of the roadmap as a template for the improvement suggestions that were developed are therefore suggested as further work.<br>ABB Power Grids Grid Integration, PGGI, levererar transformatorstationer till externa kunder, arbetet som utförs är i projektform. Alla projekt följs upp via nyckeltal, nyckeltalet OTD som ska undersökas i detta examensarbete är i form av 17 stycken standardiserade milstolpar satta från ABB för att stötta PGGI-projektens leveranssäkerhet. Problemet som ska redas ut är den nedåtgående trenden som upptäckts i leveranssäkerheten hos de 17 milstolparna. För att ta an detta gjordes en nulägesbeskrivning samt en börlägesbeskrivning, detta visade ett gap i arbetssättet gällande de 17 milstolparna. En analys av gapet mellan nuläge och börläge genomfördes, i analysen upptäcktes brister i kunskap, förståelse, rapportering samt opålitlig data gällande de 17 milstolparna. Därefter utvecklades en plan för att föreslå hur gapet mellan börläge och nuläge ska minska för att sedan elimineras. Lean filosofi, Lean verktyg samt Statistisk Process Styrning låg som grund för de framtagna förbättringsförslagen. Den framtagna planen är tänkt att användas som grund för vidare arbete med förbättringsförslagen som tagits fram.

Class of 2007 Abstract<br>Objectives: The main objective of this study was to determine if there was a link between the amount of OTC medications consumed and the knowledge of these products. With approximately 100,000 OTC products are available to the consumer this study focused on the most common class sold over the counter, analgesics. This study also determined if there was a correlation between the elderly and their frequency and knowledge of these products. Specific demographic characteristics including gender and education level were also evaluated to determine if these factors had an impact.
Methods: A 21 question survey on OTC analgesics was distributed to retail pharmacy customers. It consisted of questions on amount of OTC analgesics regularly consumed, general knowledge of these products, and basic demographic questions. The initial questions assessed the amount of OTC analgesic regularly consumed by the participant. The remaining questions were designed to determine the participant’s knowledge of these products. They were either multiple choice or true false questions covering basic information on OTC analgesics
Results: It was found there was no correlation between the amount of OTC analgesics consumed and the knowledge of these products. A person who consumed analgesics on a regular basis was not significantly more knowledgable about these products then a person who had never taken them. There was also no link between age and amount of OTC analgesics taken or knowledge of these products. It was found that women have more knowledge of OTC analgesics then men. Females answered an average 63.6% of the survey questions correct, compared to males who answered 51.8% correct. This project also demonstrated there was a correlation between the amount of the participant’s education level and their knowledge of OTC analgesics. Participants who had a high school education or less, answered 53.6% of the questions correct, and those who had a college degree or post graduate answered 73.5% correct.
Conclusions: Although OTC analgesics don’t require a prescription, it is still important to counsel patients taking these medications. This should be considered a necessary part of the job of a pharmacist to ensure the general population has adequate knowledge of these products and is taking them safely. These products can offer a significant benefit and improve a person’s quality of life when utilized correctly. Providing patient education can ensure this can be done.

Introducció: El càncer colorectal és un dels càncers més freqüentes del nostre país així com en la majoria de societats occidentals. Els factors mebiambientals juguen un paper determinant en el seu desenvolupament. Els nutrients i específicament els greixos, estarien entre els factors més destacats.<br/>Tot i que a Groenlàndia, Finlàndia i algunes zones mediterrànies, les dietes tenen un alt contingut en greix, la incidència de càncer colorrectal és relativament baixa en comparació amb la resta de països occidentals. Una important diferència dietètica és l'elevat consum de peix i oli de peix (ric en els àcids grassos n-3, eicosapentaeonic (EPA) i docosahexaenoic (DHA)) en el cas del països nòrdics i l'oli de oliva (ric en àcid oleic C18:1, n-9) a la conca mediterrània. <br/>La tesi es basa en la hipòtesi que "l'oli de peix i el d'oliva són capaços de modular el desenvolupament del càncer colorrectal.<br/>Objectius: L'objectiu de l'estudi va ser avaluar els mecanismes pels quals aquests olis realitzaven aquesta modulació i la implicació dels àcids grassos presents en aquests.<br/>Resultats: Per respondre els objectius plantejats es van utilitzar dues estratègies d'estudi. La primera es basa en estudis in vitro amb línies cel·lulars d'adenocarcinoma colorectal, Caco-2 i Ht-29. L'altra es basa en l'estudi de l'efecte dels diferents nutrients en un model animal d'inducció de la carcinogènesi colorectal. <br/>L'oli de peix i l'oli d'oliva indueixen la diferenciació en cèl·lules Caco-2. Com a resultat de la diferenciació aquestes cèl·lules comencen a expressar els enzims Sucrasa-Isomaltasa i la Dipeptidilpeptidasa IV.<br/>La regulació de l'homeòstasi del teixit colònic depèn d'una estreta relació entre la proliferació cel·lular i l'apoptosi o mort cel·lular programada<br/>Mitjançant estudis d'incorporació de timidina tritiada, hem demostrat que l'oli de peix té un important efecte inhibidor de la proliferació de les cèl·lules Caco-2 i HT-29. Sembla ser, que aquests efectes són deguts als àcids grassos n-3 EPA i DHA presents en l'oli de peix. L' efecte modulador del desenvolupament del càncer colorectal per part de l'oli de peix i del d'oliva té la seva major incidència en la inducció de l'apoptosi. L'índex d'apoptosi s'ha determinat analitzant els canvis morfològics de les cèl·lules (amb tinció DAPI). L'oli de peix, l'oli d'oliva, així com el DHA, l'EPA i l'àcid oleic són capaços d'incrementar l'apoptosi de forma molt significativa. Aquests efectes estan relacionats amb una molt ràpida inhibició de l'expressió de COX-2. L'expressió de la proteïna antipopotòtica Bcl-2 disminueix després de disminuir COX-2, fet que suggereix la implicació d'aquests dos gens en els efectes antineoplàstics produïts per aquests àcids grassos. Per altra banda es va demostrar una clara implicació de la proteïna pro-apoptòtica BAX, ja que a l'administrar un inhibidor d'aquesta, es produïa una disminució significativa de l'apoptosi.<br/>L'oli de peix i el d'oliva tenen un important efecte protector en la inducció de la carcinogènesi colorectal en animals tractats amb azoximetà. Els animals que van rebre una dieta amb oli de peix o d'oliva, com a font principal de greix, presentaven un major índex d'apoptosi. Per altra banda, l'oli de peix podria tenir un efecte preventiu al ser capaç d'incidir en la renovació de l'epiteli sa, incrementant l'apoptosi d'aquestes cèl·lules.<br/>Conclusions: L'oli de peix és capaç de modular de forma clara el desenvolupament del càncer colorectal incidint directament en els processos de diferenciació cel·lular, proliferació i apoptosi. L'oli de peix podria tenir un efecte preventiu del desenvolupament del càncer colorrectal al modificar la regeneració de l'epiteli colònic sa. L'oli d'oliva pot modular el desenvolupament del càncer colorrectal encara que no tingui el seu efecte en la totalitat dels mecanismes estudiats.<br>Introduction: Colorectal cancer is one of the most frequent cancers in our country as well as in most of the occidental societies. Environmental factors play a crucial role on its development. Nutrients and in concrete fat seems to be one of the most determinant components. Although relatively high fat diets are consumed in Greenland, Finland and some Mediterranean areas, colorectal cancer incidence remains relatively low there. An important difference between these regions and the rest of the western countries is the much higher consumption of fish and fish oil (rich in the n-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic, C20:5 and docosahexaenoic, C22:6) in the case of the Northern countries, and fish and olive oil (containing mostly oleic acid, C18:1, n-9) down in the Mediterranean basin.<br/>The hypothesis of our study was if "fish oil and olive oil are able to modulate the colorectal cancer development".<br/>Aims: The objectives of this study were to evaluate the mechanisms implicated in the modulation of cancer by these oils and determine the implications of its fatty acids.<br/>Results: In order to answer the objectives mentioned above we followed two study strategies. First, we performed: in vitro studies using adenocarcinoma cell lines, Caco-2 and Ht-29. The other one is the study of the effects of several nutrients in an animal model of carcinogenesis induction . <br/>Fish oil and olive oil induced the differentiation of Caco-2 cells. As a result of this differentiation, the cells began to express Sucrase-Isomaltase and Dipeptydilpeptidase IV enzymes.<br/>Homeostasis regulation of colonic tissue depends on a tightly relationship between cell proliferation and cell loss, through apoptosis.<br/>With [3H] thymidine incorporation studies, we demonstrated that fish oil has an important inhibitor effect on the proliferation of Caco-2 and HT-29 cells. It seems that this effect is caused by EPA i DHA (n-3 fatty acids present in fish oil). The most important effect on the development of colorectal cancer by fish oil and olive oil is the induction of apoptosis. To determine the Apoptotic index we evaluated cell morphologic changes by DAPI staining.<br/>Fish oil, olive oil, as well as DHA, EPA and oleic acid are able to increase apoptosis in a significant manner. These effects are related to a very fast inhibition of the expression of COX-2. Antipoptotic Bcl-2 protein expression decreases after Cox-2 expression inhibition, suggesting that these two genes are implicated in the antineoplastic effects. On the other hand, we demonstrated a clear implication of the proapoptotic protein BAX, because when an inhibitor of BAX was added, apoptosis significantly decreased.<br/>Fish oil and olive oil have an important protective effect in the induction of colorectal carcinogenesis in animals which received an azoximethane treatment. Animals fed with fish oil and olive oil as a principal source of fatty acids in its diet, showed a higher apoptotic index. On the other hand, fish oil may have a preventive effect due to an acceleration of the turnover of colonic epithelia through the induction of apoptosis of these cells. <br/>Conclusions: Fish oil can modulate the development of colorectal cancer in cellular differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis processes. Fish oil could have a preventive effect on the development of colorectal cancer modifying the regeneration of normal colonic epithelial. Olive oil could modulate the development of colorectal cancer although not having effects in all of the studied mechanisms.
