The underfive of children is a high-risk group of nutritional problems during the Covid-19 pandemic due to lack of nutritious eating intake, increasingly difficult economic conditions, and child health services (Posyandu) activities were closed. The community service objective was to increase the role of nutrition support groups (posyandu lay workers) in an effort to prevent and overcome nutritional problems for children. The community service targets are 4 posyandu lay workers in Sialang Mungu district, Pekanbaru as well as families with nutritional problems. The method used nutrition training for posyandu lay worker, screening the nutritional status, guidance to make the simple food (bento), providing nutrition packages and making aquaponic as an effort to endurance nutrition. The success of this activity is measured through the increase of posyandu lay workers to perform nutritional monitoring, the success of making bento, and the increase of weight of children between 500 to 1000 grams. Training and mentoring for nutrition support groups was able to provide the necessary understanding in detecting toddler nutrition during pandemic and making efforts to improve the nutrition of children. Nutrition support groups have the main role to prevent and solve the problem of nutrition of children in the community in Pekanbaru.

A reasonable and balanced diet is essential for maintaining good health. With advancements in deep learning, an automated nutrition estimation method based on food images offers a promising solution for monitoring daily nutritional intake and promoting dietary health. While monocular image-based nutrition estimation is convenient, efficient and economical, the challenge of limited accuracy remains a significant concern. To tackle this issue, we proposed DPF-Nutrition, an end-to-end nutrition estimation method using monocular images. In DPF-Nutrition, we introduced a depth prediction module to generate depth maps, thereby improving the accuracy of food portion estimation. Additionally, we designed an RGB-D fusion module that combined monocular images with the predicted depth information, resulting in better performance for nutrition estimation. To the best of our knowledge, this was the pioneering effort that integrated depth prediction and RGB-D fusion techniques in food nutrition estimation. Comprehensive experiments performed on Nutrition5k evaluated the effectiveness and efficiency of DPF-Nutrition.

Nutritional knowledge plays an important role in shaping the mindset of choosing the type and amount of food consumed. A person with good nutritional knowledge is expected to pay attention to the nutritional state of each food he consumes. Unhealthy eating habits in choosing types of food can also have an impact on nutritional status problems. Nutritious food is not expensive and delicious food, but one that has a balanced nutritional value for the body. The food counseling with balanced nutrition for adolescents aims to provide information and knowledge to adolescents at SMK Erlangga. The result of this activity was that 96.39% of students understood the counseling material on balanced nutrition. This is good because it adds insight to students in order to find out optimal nutritional needs and improve daily eating patterns.

The association between nutrition and intestinal function is based on facts. The main function of the gut is to digest and absorb nutrients in order to maintain life. Consequently, chronic gastrointestinal diseases commonly result in malnutrition and increased morbidity and mortality. Chronic malnutrition impairs digestive and absorptive function. Parenteral and enteral nutritions are effective therapeutic modalities in several diseases. In cases of gastrointestinal malfunctions, nutrition has a direct therapeutic role. The benefit of nutrition therapy is similar to medical treatment in patients with pancreatitis, Crohn disease, hepatic failure, and in those with gastrointestinal fistulas. Nutrition has both supportive and therapeutic roles in the management of chronic gastrointestinal diseases. With the development of modern techniques of nutritional support, the morbidity and mortality associated with chronic gastrointestinal diseases can be reduced. Orv. Hetil., 2014, 155(51), 2034–2040.

The ability to produce and supply more food that is both nutritious and environmentally sustainable is a momentous challenge facing Africa. Where climate change is expected to negatively impact the agricultural resource of many parts of Southern Africa specifically. Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) has emerged as an approach considered capable of transforming and realigning agricultural systems to support food and nutritional security, and development under a changing climate. For sustainable food and nutrition security to be achieved, an effective policy environment is required that supports the widespread adoption of CSA application. In light of this context, this study aims to better understand nutrition’s current position within CSA-related policy at the national level by systematically reviewing all agriculture-related policy documents across Malawi, Tanzania, and Zambia, published between 2010 and 2019. The main findings show that efforts to address nutrition are being made within all countries and a sizeable number of policies, with crop-diversification and intensification presented as popular practices promoted as part of CSA. Nonetheless, the widespread adoption of these efforts remains weak and policies lack detail and instruction for the delivery of nutritional security. Cross-ministerial collaboration is recognised as essential for an improved policy environment, but few provide plans to strengthen such linkages or to include nutritional strategies. Clearer actions and policy outlines that promote nutrition as part of CSA are necessary if more effective action is to be achieved.

Food is the source of Nutrition. When taken at face value, this wouldn’t appear to be a very controversial statement, especially when espoused within a journal dedicated to food and nutrition. However, when we take a closer look at current efforts being made in the fields of agriculture and nutrition, one often gets the impression that many food, nutrition, and agriculture experts have become convinced that food can no longer provide all of the nutrients which are essential to the optimal growth and development of the human body. Highly nutritious foods, entirely capable of fulfilling human nutritional requirements, still exist. However, due to an over-reliance on monocropped and industrialized agricultural systems, nutritional diversity is increasingly being marginalized. Instead of asking ‘What happened to our food,’ a more pertinent question would be ‘What happened to our food system’? Throughout the world, governments are now spending billions of dollars to subsidize monocropped agriculture, but as agriculture is failing nutritionally, these same governments are forced into spending billions of dollars to subsidize nutritional treatments (through fortification, supplementation, and medicinal programs). Many assessments of industrialized agriculture fail to take into consideration the negative effects on humans and the environment as a result of depleted nutrition, exposure to toxic chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides, the mismanagement of soil and water resources, and the depletion of biodiversity to make room for expanded monocropping. When we begin to learn how to embrace the nature-enhancing models of sustainable agriculture such as agroecology, we begin to realize that all the questions soon merge into one resounding answer: Yes, we can use every single available square inch of land and/or space to produce enough highly-nutritious food to feed the world, as well as to elevate the health, growth, and development of all people in all countries to their maximum potential. This can, should, and already is being implemented in people’s yards, gardens, farms, businesses, schools, churches, hospitals, public green spaces, urban areas, road sides, roof spaces, communities, and nations.

Asia Pacific has undergone substantial economic growth and trade integration, yet food and nutrition security challenges persist. Different forms of malnutrition, including undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and a rising prevalence of obesity and diet-related diseases, impose significant human and economic costs. This paper examines the opportunities to more strategically leverage regional agricultural trade policy to improve access to diverse, nutritious, and safe foods. Amid urbanization and dietary changes associated with income growth, demand for imported foods is rising across Asia. Meanwhile, pockets of food insecurity and nutritional inadequacy remain, especially among marginalized groups. Trade has potential to enhance year-round availability and affordability of fruits, vegetables, livestock products, and processed fortified foods to support nutritional diversity. However, proactive policy efforts are essential to build nutrition sensitivity. This analysis indicates that expanding regional trade networks, reducing transaction costs, upgrading value chains, utilizing food fortification, leveraging foreign investment strategically, and incorporating nutritional objectives within policy frameworks could significantly improve availability, affordability, diversity and safety of diets. But complementary investments in health systems, infrastructure, social protection, and women’s empowerment are equally critical given the multifaceted determinants of malnutrition. The present findings point to high potential nutrition and food security synergies from closer coordination between trade, health, agriculture and development policy realms. Mainstreaming nutrition across initiatives, assessing dietary impacts, and aligning incentives for food companies with public health goals are identified as priorities alongside value chain development for nutritious commodities. Further research should quantify expected nutrition outcomes of specific trade reforms. Overall, integrating nutrition sensitivity into Asia Pacific’s dynamic agricultural trade growth represents a promising opportunity to enable healthier, sustainable food systems across this populous region.

Nutrition knowledge is an important factor that influences the nutritional status and health of the individual, group or community. Research studies have been trying to develop a reliable tool which can measure nutrition-related knowledge, nutrition-related awareness and its effect on dietary behaviour. Sports nutritionists usually base their dietary interventions on a nutrition education program with dietary guidelines. There are no. of cross-sectional studies for both coaches and athletes, reporting on nutrition knowledge. Achieving optimal physical condition and maximising athletic performance both depend heavily on nutrition. Our diet provides our bodies with the energy and nutrients they need to sustain physical activity, improve muscular function, and aid in recuperation. Any physical fitness program is incomplete without nutrition as it is an integral part of physical fitness. For any sportsman, the dietary goal is to obtain adequate nutrition to improve their health and fitness or performance in sports. A carefully organized nutrition program greatly improves athletic performance. Nutritional status is a crucial factor in determining the physical fitness and training of a sports individual. For sportsmen energy requirement or nutrient requirements are high due to their game. As it is known, appropriate nutrition improves the physical performance of the sportsmen. On the other hand, inadequate intake of nutrients leads to nutrient deficiencies therefore leading to poor performance and health problems. Many studies have provided strong evidence that optimal nutrition supports physical activity, recovery and athlete performance. However Apart from less nutritional knowledge, there are several factors such as restrictive dietary intake or excessive exercise which influence healthy eating. In addition, lack of knowledge, zeal to follow a nutritious diet, lack of money and lack of time, can be a potential reason not to follow a healthy diet. Athletes generally rely on their coaches for nutrition-related guidance. So, when coaches have less knowledge about nutrition it can be a potential problem for athletes to follow a healthy diet. In some Cross-sectional studies, it is found that Coaches Play a key role in providing nutritional-related information. However, they were not aware of the importance of nutrition on performance therefore not giving the necessary importance to their diets. Coaches have inadequate knowledge about sports nutrition and their role is critical as they are prime contact for the athletes to know about their diet to enhance their performance

Early childhood producing future human resources, is a group that is susceptible to a variety of health issues and nutritional disorders. It is important to pay attention to the fulfillment of excellent nutrition and to optimize every stage of its growth. According to estimates, 10% of the children in the Amanah Kahmi playgroup are malnourished due to nutritional abnormalities, and many parents lack awareness of the importance of feeding children a healthy diet. It could impact the risk of infectious disease and growth issues. This activity aims to inform parents about the monitoring of a child's nutritional condition and the preparation of nourishing foods for young children. The activity began with education on assessing children's nutritional status and putting it into practice by measuring the height and weight of 35 school students and then applying it using the WHO child nutrition monitoring chart. The results showed that 19 children with normal weight categories consisting of 5 boys and 14 girls; 8 children with poor nutritional status consisting of 7 boys and 1 girl; and 8 children close to the normal nutritional limit, consisting of 2 girls and 6 boys. The activity was followed by educating parents regarding balanced nutrition for children through the video presentation and preparation of nutritious food for children. This activity is expected to increase knowledge and assist parents in monitoring the growth and development of children and providing nutritious food for children to prevent nutritional disorders in early childhood.

Nutritional problems become a complex problem for children. This study aims to provide an in-depth description and analysis of parents' understanding of fulfilling balanced nutrition through preparing lunch boxes for group B children. This type of research is a case study qualitative research. The subjects in this study were the school principal, homeroom teacher in class B-1, homeroom teacher in class B-2, and parents. Data collection in this study was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques use data triangulation techniques. Based on the results of data analysis, several findings were obtained in this study. First, the contents of the children's lunch box used healthy and nutritious food, but different from the balanced nutritional standards needed by children. Both parents' understanding of balanced nutrition is quite good. It can be seen in parents’ awareness of preparing their children's lunch. Third, the role of schools is very good in supporting the development and introduction of nutrition for parents and children. From these three findings, it can be concluded that children's lunch boxes contain healthy and nutritious food. It is related to the level of parents’ understanding and good support from schools regarding the development and introduction of nutrition for children.

AbstractObjectiveWe tested whether the presence of both child-targeted and nutrition-focused (i.e. parent-targeted) marketing cues on food packaging was associated with the nutritional content of these products.DesignWe conducted a quantitative content analysis of 403 food packages chosen randomly from the supermarket’s online portal along with all products (n 312) from the cereal aisle in a supermarket from the Southeastern USA. We examined main and interaction effects for cues on nutritional content (e.g. energy density, sugar, sodium, fibre).SettingA regional supermarket chain in the Southeastern USA.ResultsTests of main effects indicated that increased presence of nutritional cues was linked to more nutritious content (e.g. less sugar, less saturated fat, more fibre) while the increased presence of child-targeted cues was uniformly associated with less nutritious content (e.g. more sugar, less protein, less fibre). Among the interaction effects, results revealed that products with increased nutrition-focused and child-targeted cues were likely to contain significantly more sugar and less protein than other products.ConclusionsProducts that seek to engage children with their packaging in the supermarket are significantly less nutritious than foods that do not, while product packages that suggest nutritional benefits have more nutritious content. More importantly, the study provides evidence that those products which try to engage both child and parent consumers are significantly less healthy in crucial ways (e.g. more sugar, less fibre) than products that do not.

To establish the necessity to incorporate the complexities emerging from a broader understanding of the biological sciences as well as to include environmental and social dimensions in addressing nutritional needs.MethodExamples of the limitations of current approaches and the implications of these in defining potential solutions and policy options to address present nutritional problems are presented and discussed.ConclusionThe chemical and biological sciences have provided a strong base for nutrition and have been essential in establishing nutrition as a science with public health relevance. However, these approaches are clearly insufficient to address the main challenges that confront nutrition science now in the twenty-first century. There is a pressing need to include the social, economic and human rights aspects in order to define future policies that will secure the right to safe and nutritious food for all.

Early nutrition research is discussed with reference to in ovo nutrition and nutritional needs up to day seven post-hatch. In addition, the nutrition of the hen is key in early nutrition of chicks. Key advances that have impacted diet formulation are energy and nutrient liberating enzymes, and the use of L-threonine. Key nutritional mechanisms that have been elucidated the past two decades include nutrition in immunity and gut health. Advances in nutritional specifications for specific genetic strains of broilers and the use of models to tie nutrition into production objectives are clear advances that will only flourish in the future.

This review addresses the nutritive value of soybean, anti-nutritional factors, effect of processing on the nutritive value of the seed and the utilization of soybean in milk replacers for pre-ruminants. Well processed soybean can provide high quality proteins that can be used to replace milk proteins in milk replacers for pre ruminants. There is no branch of medicine in which nutritional considerations do not play some part. Overnutrition, undernutrition or unbalanced nutrition are the major causes of ill health in the world. Conversely, illness causes important nutritional and metabolic problems. The spectrum from lack to excess of nutrients is seamless as a clinical and scientific discipline, the two extremes being linked by the Barker effect by which intrauterine malnutrition and low birth weight predispose to obesity, diabetes and CVD in later life. However, the teaching of nutrition in medical and nursing schools remains sparse. Nutritional care cannot be practised satisfactorily in isolation from other aspects of management, since factors such as drugs, surgery and fluid and electrolyte balance affect nutritional status. Nutritional treatment may also have adverse or beneficial effects according to the composition, amount and mode of delivery of the diet and the clinical context in which it is given. Any benefits of nutritional support may also be negated by shortcomings in other aspects of treatment and must therefore be fully integrated into overall care. One example of this approach is the enhanced recovery after a surgery protocol incorporating immediate pre-operative carbohydrate and early post-operative oral intake with strict attention to zero fluid balance, epidural analgesia and early mobilisation. Other examples include the deleterious effect on surgical outcome of salt and water overload or hyperglycaemia, either of which may negate the benefits of nutritional support. There is a need, therefore, to integrate clinical nutrition more closely, not just into medical and surgical practice, but also into the organisation of health services in the hospital and the community, and into the training of doctors and nurses. Societies originally devoted to parenteral and enteral nutrition need to widen their scope to embrace wider aspects of clinical nutrition.

In critical care, malnutrition has a significant, negative impact on a patient’s ability to respond to medical treatment. Enteral nutrition is known to counteract the metabolic changes associated with critical illness that increase the risk for serious complications and poor clinical outcomes. Inadequate delivery of nutrition support and underfeeding persist in intensive care units despite the availability of guidelines and current research for best practice. Recent studies have shown that nutrition support protocols are effective in promoting nutritional goals in a wide variety of intensive care patients. It is essential to find approaches that enhance early delivery of enteral nutrition that meets requirements and supports improved outcomes. Nurses are in a unique position to take an active role in promoting the best nutritional outcomes for their patients by using and evaluating nutrition support protocols.

Adolescents are prone to nutritional problems due to various factors including: diet, body perception, physical activity, medical conditions, and lifestyle. Adolescent awareness about health and nutrition, as well as knowledge of nutrition could influence that various factors due to nutritional problems in adolescents. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nutritional awareness, nutritional knowledge, and health awareness on the nutritional status of adolescents. The design of this study was cross-sectional with 98 respondents aged 15-18 years selected by random sampling in SMA Negeri 4 Jakarta. Health awareness data was collected using the Health Conciousness Scale, nutrition awareness using a nutrition awareness questionnaire, and nutrition knowledge using a nutrition knowledge questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Spearman rank test. The results showed that the majority (> 50%) of the respondents had normal nutritional status with sufficient nutritional knowledge and moderate nutrition and health awareness categories. There is no significant relationship between awareness and knowledge of nutrition and health awareness on the nutritional status of respondents (p>0.05). Nutritional awareness, nutritional knowledge, and health awareness are not direct causative factors that can affect nutritional status, so it is supposed that there are other factors that directly influence nutritional status, such as nutritional intake or health status. Future studies are expected to be completed with data on nutritional intake and health status as the direct causative factors of nutritional status.

This study aims to determine how providing balanced nutritious food affects the incidence of stunting in toddlers. The method used is scoping review with the PRISMA-ScR framework and scoping review questions with the PICO framework. Article searches were conducted through the Pubmed, ScienceDirect and Wiley databases with Critical Appraisal based on The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). The results showed that three main themes were found, namely: 1) knowledge, affecting the growth and development of children, the higher the mother's education, the better her level of knowledge; 2) economic status, which influences the incidence of stunting because if the economic status is good, then the family is not lacking in terms of food; 3) good feeding practices, is an indicator to assess the optimal fulfillment of a child's nutritional needs. In conclusion, providing nutritious food with balanced nutrition for children is the main factor that significantly influences the incidence of stunting in toddlers.
