UPMC CancerCenter (UPMC) desires to streamline the current telephone triage process across its 31 outpatient clinics. UPMC and Via Oncology collaborated to develop and pilot a prototype of an electronic telephone triage application. The key components of the prototype were defined as decision support, EHR integration, reporting, and workflow management. Methods: A prototype application, Symptom Manager (SM), was developed and piloted with 4 nurses at 3 outpatient clinics. Front office staff registered inbound calls in SM, which populated a phone triage queue. The nurse was prompted to enter information about the call. Decision support materials were displayed for reference, including algorithms for symptom assessment, adjudication, and treatment. The output was a structured summary of the encounter that was copied to the patient’s chart. From the queue, the nurse was also prompted to make outbound calls for symptom reassessment. A feedback session with the nurse users and institution leadership was held following the pilot. Results: A total of 235 inbound calls were captured in the application, of which 74 (31.5%) were symptom-related. Additional data fields collected during the pilot included symptom, adjudication, time elapsed for callback, and symptom status at follow up. The ability to extract and report on data of this type was viewed as valuable for quality and process improvement. The nurse users praised SM’s ease of use, but prototype performance issues shortened the pilot. They indicated that the standardized documentation increased efficiency. Requests for future enhancements included deeper EHR integration and additional fields for data capture. Conclusions: This pilot provided the feedback necessary to develop the latest version of SM which begins roll out across UPMC in November 2016 and includes EMR integration. An update on the software and additional data captured during the pilot will be provided at presentation.

NGood nursing documentation is inseparable from nurse motivation. Motivation of nurses is influenced internally and externally, one of them through the role of the head nursee and nurse supervisor To find out the relationship between the role of head nurses and nurse supervisor with the motivation of nurses in carrying out nursing documentation at Idaman Hospital in Banjarbaru City. The research used correlational study with a cross sectional approach and probability sampling technique with a type of simple random sampling. The sample in the study were 67 nurses in the inpatient room of Idaman Hospital, Banjarbaru City. Data retrieval was done by giving a questionnaire. Test analysis used Pearson correlation. The results of the study showed an average head role of 51.10, room supervisors averaged 32.81 and nurses' motivation averaged 33.61. These results indicate the head nurse and nurse supervisor often perform their roles and motivation of nurses is high. The results of the analysis found a positive relationship between the role of the head nurse and nurses' motivation in conducting nursing documentation in Idaman Hospital in Banjarbaru City (p Value = <0001;95%CI) and there was a positive relationship between the role of room supervisor and nurse motivation in conducting nursing documentation at RSD Idaman Banjarbaru City (p Value = <0001;95%CI). The role of the head nurse and the supervisor of the room can influence the level of motivation of nurses in conducting nursing documentation so that the head nurse and nurse supervisor are expected to perform their roles well.

INTRODUCTION: The Auckland chlamydia pilot was one of three pilots funded by the Ministry of Health to trial implementation of the 2008 Chlamydia Management Guidelines prior to national roll-out. AIM: To assess what elements in the testing programme pilot worked best for staff and to determine how an opportunistic testing programme could be better configured to meet staff needs and preferences. METHODS: A staff survey listed key chlamydia testing tasks in chronological order, and service interventions supporting these tasks. Staff were asked to rate each task on its difficulty prior to the pilot, and then on the difference the pilot had made to each task. They were also asked to rate service interventions on their usefulness during the pilot implementation. RESULTS: The survey had a response rate of 94%. The testing tasks posing the greatest difficulties to staff were those involving patient interactions (41%) and management of follow-up (52%). About 70% of staff felt tasks were improved by the pilot. Staff considered the three most useful service interventions to be a chlamydia-specific template created for the practice management system, provision of printed patient resources, and regular team discussions with other staff. DISCUSSION: A significant proportion of staff reported difficulties with routine tasks required for opportunistic testing for chlamydia, highlighting the need to involve staff during programme design. Practice nurse–led approaches to future opportunistic testing programmes should be considered as nurses had a more positive response to the pilot and nurse-led approaches have been shown to be successful overseas. Background: Using best evidence to inform practice is the cornerstone of quality patient care, and requires spread, uptake, implementation and roll-out of best practices. Kangaroo mother care (KMC) was used as a best practice which has been partly rolled-out in South Africa. In order for successful roll-out of best practices, it is important to understand what health professionals perceive as requirements for the rolling-out process. However, no published research was found on requirements for rolling-out a best practice in the South African context.Purpose of the research: To explore and describe the perspectives of health professionals on the requirements for the rolling-out process of KMC as a best practice in South Africa.Methodology: Twelve semi-structured individual interviews were conducted in 2012 with health professionals from various South African healthcare levels, involved in the implementation and the rolling-out process of kangaroo mother care. Content analysis were guided in terms of the four requirements for roll-out of best practices, identified in Edwards and Grinspun's Evidence Informed Model of Care.Results: The requirements for the successful rollout of best practices mentioned by the participants in this study concur with the requirements of Edwards and Grinspun: personal alignment and protocol/policy alignment with the best practice; a roll-out plan; leadership; and supporting and reinforcing structures such as: resources, communicating, education and development regarding the best practice, and the organisational structure. The requirements were identified at four different levels: individual level (e.g. the nurse and medical specialists), management level (of the hospital), provincial level and national level.

Background Globally, government and higher education institutions are expected to increase international student numbers. Programme development, marketing international collaboration and management has been the focus of strategy roll out. Aims This study aimed to explore international student experiences while undertaking Master of Science postgraduate education far from home. Methods A qualitative descriptive design was used. Following ethical approval, 11 students studying on a Master of Science Nursing postgraduate programme in one health education institute in Ireland volunteered to participate. Students were of Asian origin and mixed gender and the average age was 27. Data were collected using face-to-face semi-structured interviews and data analysis followed Burnard’s thematic framework. Results The data provide evidence of the complexities and challenges experienced when studying on a Master of Science postgraduate nursing programme. Students described a process of juggling to survive and succeed. Three overarching categories emerged: differing realities, working through, and learning new ways. Conclusions This study adds to international debate regarding structures and processes supporting international nurse education. In meeting ethnic and culturally-diverse student learning needs, consideration of learning and teaching approaches is warranted. For globalisation in nurse education to prosper, investment needs to move from focusing on recruitment towards structures and processes to nurture intercultural learning.

Bakgrund: Ledarskapet för omvårdnaden är ett av sjuksköterskans kompetensområden och därmed en del av det dagliga arbetet. Därför är ledarskapet en viktig del av den nyutexaminerade sjuksköterskans kompetens för att säkerställa bästa möjliga omvårdnad för patienten. Detta kan upplevas som kravfyllt men också spännande. Syfte: Syftet med följande studie är att beskriva hur nyutexaminerade sjuksköterskor ser på sin arbetsledarroll inom den psykiatriska omvårdnaden. Metod: Kvalitativ ansats. Fem stycken intervjuer genomfördes med sjuksköterskor från tre olika avdelningar inom en psykiatrisk klinik. Intervjuerna gjordes med stöd av en intervjuguide med öppna frågor. Resultat: I materialet framkom fyra teman. Dessa var erfarenhet, mandat, kommunikation samt relation. Slutsats: Att inneha ledarskapet för den psykiatriska omvårdnaden som nyutexaminerad som sjuksköterska är inte lätt och kan vara ett osäkerhetsmoment. Därför är det av betydelsefullt att nyutexaminerade sjuksköterskor får stöd av erfarna sjuksköterskor och får ett tydligt mandat för arbetsledning av chefssjuksköterskorna. Det är också viktigt att de nyutexaminerade sjuksköterskorna blir välförberedda av sjuksköterskeutbildningarna för ledarskapet för omvårdnaden genom att ledarskap får en stor plats i grundutbildningen för sjuksköterskorna. För att vara väl förberedd inför ledarskapet för den psykiatriska omvårdnaden är det viktigt att den nyutbildade sjuksköterskan har goda kunskaper i psykiatrisk omvårdnad.

BAKGRUND: Mer än var tionde kvinna drabbas av bröstcancer under sin livstid, vilken är den vanligaste cancertyp som drabbar flest kvinnor. Trots den höga incidensen har antalet friskförklarade ökat de senaste åren. Kvinnor med bröstcancer får en förändrad självbild efter diagnos och behandling, vilket generellt skapar specifika omvårdnadsbehov. Det är viktigt att hantera dessa konsekvenser av bröstcancer, då de är starkt sammankopplade med livskvaliteten. Detta medför ett ökat behov av holistisk omvårdnad med fokus på livskvalitet.  SYFTE: Att belysa sjuksköterskans stödjande roll i omvårdnaden av patienter med bröstcancer. METOD: Undersökningen genomfördes som en litteraturöversikt och utgår från artiklar baserade på kvalitativa studier. RESULTAT: Bröstcancerpatienter i olika stadier, från diagnos till efter avslutad behandling, uttrycker att sjuksköterskan varit en viktig resurs genom hela vårdprocessen. Framför allt betonas hantering av information, stöd och kompetenta sjuksköterskor. Sjuksköterskan har förmedlat emotionellt stöd, hjälpt till att navigera i systemet som omger vårdprocessen, varit kompetent, varit kunnig inom cancervård samt har förmedlat information.  SLUTSATS: Litteraturstudien visar att sjuksköterskor i de flesta fall möter bröstcancerpatienter i deras behov av stöd, information, kliniska färdigheter samt kunskap om hur systemet i hälso- och sjukvården fungerar. Det framkommer att de flesta patienter och närstående är nöjda med vården och att de har känt förtroende för sjuksköterskan. För att ett salutogent hälsoperspektiv ska kunna råda behöver de här patienterna inte bara hjälp med den fysiska vården relaterad till bröstcancer utan detta förutsätter vård i ett holistiskt perspektiv.
BACKGROUND: More than one in ten women get diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. Breast cancer is currently the most common type of cancer amongst women. Despite the high incidence the number of women who are declared healthy in recent years, increase. Women with breast cancer experience an altered self-image after diagnosis and treatment which generally creates specific nursing-needs. It is important to handle these impacts of breast cancer since they are strongly connected with life quality. This increases the need of holistic nursing with a quality of life focus. PURPOSE: To highlight the nurse´s supportive role in the care of patients with breast cancer. METHOD: The survey was conducted as a literature review and based on qualitative studies. RESULT: Breast cancer patients at various stages, from diagnosis to after completed treatment express that the nurse has been an important resource throughout the care process. In particular, they emphasize managing information, being supportive and is knowledgeable. The nurse has conveyed emotional support, helped to navigate in the system surrounding the care process, owned skills and knowledge in cancer care and that supplied information. CONSLUSION: The literature review show that nurses in the majority of cases meet patients in their needs for support, information, clinical skills and knowledge of how the system of health care functions. It appears that most patients and their relatives are satisfied with the care and they have trusted the nurses. To be able to provide care with a salutogenic perspective in interest, the patients not only need physical care, they need care with a holistic perspective.

Bakgrund: Den psykiatriska slutenvården liksom sjuksköterskans roll har förändrats sedan seklets början. Institutionalisering har ersatts av vård och behandling av patienten, vilket har förändrat kravet på utbildad personal liksom synen på kompetens. Historien förefaller dock fortsatt påverka dagens psykiatriska vårdkultur, och möjligheterna för specialistsjuksköterskan inom psykiatrisk slutenvård att använda sin specialistkompetens förefaller vara beroende av mer än sjuksköterskans egen kunskap och förmåga. Syfte: Studiens syfte var att beskriva hur specialistsjuksköterskor och chefer inom psykiatrisk slutenvård ser på specialistsjuksköterskans kompetens och roll. Metod: Datamaterialet samlades in genom individuella semistrukturerade intervjuer med specialistsjuksköterskor och chefer verksamma inom psykiatrisk slutenvård. Materialet analyserades med kvalitativ innehållsanalys inspirerad av Elo och Kyngäs. Materialet sorterades därefter in i en analysram inspirerad av Kings konceptuella system: det personliga systemet, det interpersonella systemet samt det sociala systemet Resultat: Den kvalitativa analysen utmynnade i tre kategorier: Specialistsjuksköterskans fördjupade kompetens leder till inre trygghet (personliga systemet), specialistsjuksköterskans kompetens främjar patientens hälsoprocess (interpersonella systemet) och Specialistsjuksköterskans kompetens efterfrågas inte av organisationen (sociala systemet). Diskussion: Specialistkunskapen beskrevs som internaliserad i den enskilda sjuksköterskan och det beskrevs att specialistkunskapen gynnade patientens hälsoprocess. Specialistsjuksköterskorna uttryckte dock att de inte fick det mandat de behövde för att implementera sin fördjupade kunskap i slutenvården och att chefen behövde efterfråga specialistkunskapen och bekräfta dem i rollen. Brist på möjlighet att påverka kan vara en anledning till att specialistsjuksköterskor inte stannar i slutenvården. Detta behöver studeras ytterligare och även diskuteras i klinisk praxis.
Background: Psychiatric inpatient care as well as the nurse’s role has changed since the beginning of the century. Institutionalization has been replaced by the care and treatment of the patient, which has changed the requirement of trained staff as well as the perception of competence. History seems however continued to affect today’s psychiatric culture, and opportunities for specialist nurses in psychiatric inpatient care to use their specialist expertise seems to be dependent on more than the nurse’s own knowledge and skills. Aim: The aim of the study was to describe how specialist nurses and managers within psychiatric inpatient care views the specialist nurse competence and role. Method: The data were collected through individual semistructured interviews with specialist nurses and managers active in psychiatric inpatient care. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis inspired by Elo and Kyngäs. Data were also divided into an analysis framework inspired by Kings Conceptual system: the personal system, the interpersonal system and the social system. Results: The qualitative analysis resulted in three categories: The specialist nurse depth expertise leads to internal security (personal system), The specialist nurse competence promotes the health of the patient process (interpersonal system) and The specialist nurse competence is not requested by the organization (social system). Discussions: Specialist knowledge was described as internalized in the individual nurse and it was described how specialist knowledge favored the patient’s health process. Specialist nurses described, however, that they were not given the mandate they needed to implement their in-depth expertise of inpatient care. The nurses expressed that the manager had to ask for specialist knowledge and confirm them in their role. Lack of ability to influence may be one reason that specialist nurses do not stay in inpatient care. This needs to be studied further and discussed within clinical practice.

Bakgrund: Anmälningarna av barnmisshandel har ökat på sistone och hälsovårdspersonal har som plikt att anmäla vid misstanke av barnmisshandel till Socialtjänsten. Det finns många riskfaktorer relaterade till om ett barn kommer att bli misshandlade eller inte, både kring förövarna men även riskfaktorer kring barnet. Statistisk sett är majoriteten av förövarna föräldrarna till barnet.   Syfte: Att beskriva sjuksköterskans erfarenheter av barnmisshandel inom Hälso- och Sjukvården samt vidare beskriva en metodologisk ansats valda artiklar använt sig av. Metod: Beskrivande litteraturstudie utifrån nio kvalitativa och tre kvantitativa artiklar där medverkande sjuksköterskor haft erfarenhet av barn som utsatts misshandel.   Resultat: Det framkom att sjuksköterskans erfarenhet av sin egna förmåga, känslor, stöd och omgivning påverkar hur och om anmälningen av barnmisshandel genomförs. Trots att sjuksköterskor i studierna var medvetna om anmälningsplikten var det en del sjuksköterskor som inte anmälde vid misstanke om barnmisshandel. Sjuksköterskorna erfors även av många olika känslor när de var inblandad i barnmisshandelsfall, samt att samtliga sjuksköterskor i studien erfor att de saknade kunskap av barnmisshandel och många önskade att de haft mer stöd när det kom till våld mot barn.   Slutsats: Erfarenheten av barnmisshandelsfall tog hårt på sjuksköterskorna till den grad att vissa ignorerade tecknen och undvek att anmäla till Socialtjänsten. Sjuksköterskorna erfor att de behövde mer stöd från en erfaren kollega men även att de behövde mer kunskap och erfarenhet.
Background:  Reports of child abuse have increased recently and healthcare staff are obligated by law to report any possible suspicion of child maltreatment to the Social Services. There are a lot of risk factors involved concerning whether a child will be abused or not, factors related to the perpetrators but also factors related to the child itself. Statistically the majority of perpetrators are the child's own parents. Aim: To describe the registered nurses experiences of child abuse within healthcare and also to describe one methodological aspect of the articles that this study is based upon.   Method: A descriptive literature review based on nine qualitative and three quantitative articles, where the participating registered nurses have experience of children that have been abused. Results: It was found that the nurse’s own personal experiences, based upon their own feelings, the support they received and the actual environment affects how and indeed if child abuse will be reported. Although the registered nurses were aware that they are obliged to report all cases, some nurses failed to report child abuse to the Social Services. The nurses experienced a variety of emotions that arose when they were involved in child abuse cases. All nurses in this study experienced that they lacked knowledge concerning child abuse also a lot of nurses wished that they had had more support during child abuse cases. Conclusion: The experience of child abuse cases severely affected the nurses even to the extent that some ignored the signs and failed to report to the Social Services. The registered nurses experienced a need for more support from an experienced colleague and wanted to attain more knowledge and experience themselves.

Bakgrund: Barns och ungas psykiska hälsa har försämrats sedan 1990-talet. Förekomsten av mobbning ligger på samma nivå sedan samma tid. Mobbning och kränkningar har negativa effekter på barns psykiska hälsa. Skolsköterskor har en central roll vad gäller att främja skolbarns hälsa. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att beskriva hur skolsköterskor ser på sin roll i arbetet mot mobbning och kränkningar i skolan.  Metod: Kvalitativ metod med induktiv ansats. Elva  e-postintervjuer har analyserats med kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Resultat: Resultatet presenteras i fyra teman. Resultatet visar att skolsköterskor vill, men har inte tillräckligt med tid att arbeta mot mobbning. att hen identifierar och bemöter elever som är utsatta för mobbning, att hen samarbetar med andra professioner på skolan samt att hen även arbetar preventivt i arbetet mot mobbning.  Konklusion: Skolsköterskorna såg sig inte som framträdande i arbetet mot mobbning och kränkningar. Deras syn på sin roll var främst att identifiera och bemömta utsatta elever och hälsosamtalet var deras främsta redskap. Samarbete med andra professioner ansågs vara viktigt för att kunna möta elevens behov.
Background: Mental disorders among children and adolescents has increased since the 90´s. The presence of bullying has not changed. Bullying leads to negative psychological health effects. The school nurse has an important role in the health promoting work in schools. Purpose: The aim of this study is to describe school nurses perceptions of their role in the work towards bullying in schools. Methodology: A qualitative method with eleven interviews made via e-mail. The interviews were analyzed with an inductive qualitative content analysis.  Result: The result is presented in four themes. The result shows that the school nurse wants to but don´t have enough time to work towards bullying, the scholl nurse identify and encounter students involved in bullyin, cooperate with other professionals at school and also work preventively towards bullying. Conclusion: The school nurses didn´t perceive themselves as the most prominent person in the anti-bullying work in schools. Their perceptions of their role was to discover and to encounter children involved in bullying and the health dialogue is their main tool.

Bakgrund: Tobak är den enskilt största livsstilsfaktorn som leder till ohälsa. Att tobak är skadligt och leder till flertalet svåra sjukdomar är idag känt bland de flesta. Trots detta röker fortfarande 10% av Sveriges befolkning och ca 800 000 snusar. Inom sjukvården röker en av tio sjuksköterskor dagligen. Sjuksköterskan ses som en nyckelperson för patienten inom tobaksprevention och bör vara en förebild. Patientens sjukhusvistelse ses därför som ett bra tillfälle att lyfta frågan om att sluta med tobak. Sjuksköterskor som röker har visats vara sämre på att ge råd och vara mindre benägna att hjälpa sina patienter att sluta röka vilket strider mot den yrkesverksamma sjuksköterskans arbetsuppgift, vilken är att främja hälsa och förebygga sjukdom. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka användandet av tobak bland sjuksköterskestudenter vid Uppsala universitet samt studenternas syn på användning av tobak som yrkesverksamma sjuksköterskor. Metod: En kvantitativ metod valdes då ett stort antal personer skulle undersökas och en studiespecifik enkät skickades ut till totalt 632 sjuksköterskestudenter. Resultat: Av studenterna använde 38% tobak. Av dessa rökte 3,1% dagligen och 12% snusade dagligen. Studenterna ansåg att sjukvårdspersonal är förebilder i hälsoförebyggande vård och sjuksköterskor som använder tobak ansågs inte vara bra förebilder. Slutsats: Den dagliga rökningen var mindre bland sjuksköterskestudenterna jämfört med tidigare undersökningar gjorda på sjuksköterskor. Studenterna såg sjuksköterskor som förebilder för patienten inom hälsa och anser att sjukvårdspersonal bör värna om sin egen hälsa och inte bruka tobak. Det sågs en skillnad mellan studenterna som använde tobak och de som inte använde tobak.  Studenterna som inte använde tobak ansåg att en sjuksköterska som använder tobak inte är en bra förebild för patienterna och de ansågs vara mindre benägen att hjälpa patienterna att sluta med tobak. Medan de studenter som använde tobak ansåg oftare att detta inte hade någon betydelse för vården. Men de studenter som rökte planerade ändå att sluta tills de skulle ta sin examen.
Background: Tobacco is the single largest lifestyle factor leading to a bad health. That smoking is harmful and leads to many serious diseases are known among most people. Despite this 10% of the Swedish population and about one out of ten nurses at the hospital still smoke daily. Nurses are supposed to be role models and play a key role in tobacco use prevention. The patient’s time at the hospital is therefore seen as a good opportunity to raise the question about tobacco cessation. Nurses who smoke are proven to be less likely to provide advice and help these patients stop using tobacco, which is opposing the nurses tasks, to promote health and to prevent illness Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of tobacco among the nursing students at Uppsala university and the students opinion about the use of tobacco as professional nurses. Method: A quantitative method was chosen because of the large number of people that would be examined and as study specific questionnaire was sent out to a total of 632 nursing students. Results: In total 38% of students used tobacco. Among those, 3.1% were daily smokers and 12%used Swedish snus. The students considered nurses as role models for the patient in health. Nurses who used tobacco were seen as poor role models. Conclusion: The daily smoking is declining among the nursing students compared to previous studies on nurses. The students considered nurses as role models for the patients in health and they believe that hospital workers should care about their own health and not use tobacco. A difference was found between the students who used tobacco and those who did not use tobacco. The students who did not use tobacco considered that a nurse who uses tobacco is not a good role model and for the patients and are considered as not as good in giving tobacco cessation advice. The students who used tobacco thought more often that the nurses use of tobacco did not matter for the care he or she gives. At the same time the students who smoke still plan to quit smoking before graduation.

Bakgrund: Skolsköterskan ingår i elevhälsoteamet vars uppdrag är att bevara och främja hälsa, förhindra ohälsa, tidigt upptäcka sjukdom och minska konsekvenser av skada eller sjukdom.   Syfte: Studien syftar till att undersöka hur elever ser på skolsköterskans roll i skolan.   Metod: En kvalitativ metod valdes för studien. Arton elever från högstadiet och gymnasiet svarade på mejlfrågor. Analysmetoden som valdes gav möjligheten att röra sig relativt fritt mellan olika analytiska begrepp. Resultatet presenteras i tre teman.   Resultat: Eleverna beskriver att de har tilltro till skolsköterskor. Eleverna törs prata om det mesta. De litar på att tystnadsplikten fungerar. Hur tillgänglig skolsköterskan är varierar mycket. Placeringen av skolsköterskans expedition har betydelse. Uteblivna skolsköterskebesök kan bero på att lärarna hindrar dem under lektionstid. Informanterna i den här studien är nöjda med informationen de fått kring vaccinationen och hantering runt den. De har fått med sig värdefulla tips vid hälsosamtalet.   Konklusion: Skolsköterskans roll är komplex. Arbetet innefattar allt från att vara trygghetsperson till rådgivare. Tillgängligheten har stor betydelse för hur en god relation kan byggas upp mellan skolsköterskan och eleverna.
Background: The school nurse is a part of the student health team with the mission to preserve and promote health, prevent illness, early detection of disease, and reduce the consequences of injury or illness.   Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how students view the role of the school nurse in a school environment.   Method: The chosen research strategy is a qualitative method. A test group of 18 students between the ages of 15 and 18 answered questions by email. The analysis method that was selected allowed relatively free movement between different analytical concepts. The result is presented in three themes.   Results: The students in the test group describe confidence in school nurses. The students believe that they can speak freely with the nurse and trust in student/nurse confidentiality. The overall accessibility of the school nurse varies greatly between institutions. The placement of the school nurse’s office is of significance to the students. Two factors that prevent students from seeking help from the school nurse are when teachers do not allow the students to leave the classroom during lessons and during breaks when the line is long or she is not physically present. The test group is very satisfied with the information they received regarding the vaccination and the process around it. The also received information from a health talk that they found valuable.   Conclusion: The role of the school nurse is complex. It ranges from being a person the students can trust and talk to, to being an advisor. Accessibility is of great importance to allow a good relationship to be built between the school nurse and students.

Bakgrund: Våld mot kvinnor är ett känt socialt problem världen över och har under 2000-talet ökat med 30 procent. År 2007 anmäldes i Sverige ca 27 000 brott rubricerade som misshandel mot kvinnor och drygt 2/3 av dessa brott utfördes av en bekant gärningsman. Sjuksköterskan har en potentiellt unik och viktig roll i att identifiera och ta hand om kvinnor som söker hjälp gällande våld i parrelationer. Syfte: Att beskriva vilken roll sjuksköterskan har i mötet med den våldsutsatta kvinnan, samt hur sjuksköterskan upplever mötet. Metod: En deskriptiv litteraturstudie där 13 vetenskapliga artiklar har granskats och sammanställts. Resultat: Sjuksköterskans roll går ut på att skapa en trygg miljö och stödja den våldsutsatta kvinnan. Sjuksköterskan bör använda sig av ett professionellt bemötande och skapa en relation där en god kommunikation är möjlig. Sjuksköterskor upplever ofta frustration i mötet med den våldsutsatta kvinnan då det kan vara svårt att skapa en öppen dialog. Sjuksköterskor beskriver även en känsla av maktlöshet, då kvinnan väljer att gå tillbaka till ett våldsamt förhållande. Det är vanligt att sjuksköterskor i mötet med den våldsutsatta kvinnan blir känslomässigt engagerade. Slutsats: Sjuksköterskor saknar kunskap inom screening, bemötande samt omhändertagande av våldsutsatta kvinnor och är i behov av mer utbildning inom ämnet.
Background: Violence against women is a known social problem worldwide and increased by 30 percent in the 2000s'. In 2007, about 27 000 crimes captioned as abuse against women were reported in Sweden and just over 2/3 of these crimes were carried out by a known perpetrator. As a nurse you have a potentially unique and important role in identifying and taking care of women seeking help regarding intimate partner violence. Aim: To describe the role nurses have in the meeting with the abused woman, and how nurses perceive meeting. Method: A descriptive literature review in which 13 scientific papers have been reviewed and compiled. Results: Nursing role is to create a safe environment and support the abused woman. Nurses should use a professional approach and create a relationship where good communication is possible. The nurse often experience frustration in the meeting with the abused woman as it can be difficult to create an open dialogue. Nurses also describe a sense of powerlessness, when the woman chooses to go back to a violent relationship. It is common for nurses, in the meeting with the abused woman, to become emotionally involved. Conclusion: Nurses lack training in screening, treat and care for abused women and need more education in the subject.

Behovet av specialiserade sjuksköterskor ökar men då arbets-uppgifterna mellan grund- och specialistutbildade sjuksköterskor inte skiljer sig nämnvärt åt kan detta få till följd att specialistsjuksköterskorna lämnar det kliniska arbetet. Den specialistkompetens som efterfrågats riskerar därmed att försvinna. På denna grund, och som ett led i att förtydliga specialistsjuksköterskans roll i psykiatrisk slutenvård, är det av intresse att uppmärksamma hur specialistsjuksköterskan uppfattas och vilka förväntningar som finns på dennes kompetens. Syfte: att beskriva läkares uppfattningar av specialistsjuksköterskans kompetens i psykiatrisk vård. Metod: Åtta kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer analyserades med en fenomenografisk ansats. Resultat: Huvudresultaten sammanfattades i fem kategorier: Specialistsjuksköterskans roll är otydlig och osynlig; Specialistsjuksköterskan utför särskilda arbetsuppgifter; Specialistsjuk-sköterskan besitter fördjupad kompetens; Specialistkompetens leder till personlig utveckling samt Specialistsjuksköterskan är en ambassadör. Slutsats: Det behövs en ökad förståelse för specialist-sjuksköterskans kompetens. För att detta ska kunna ske efterfrågas en tydligare beskrivning av vad det innebär att arbeta som specialistsjuksköterska på en psykiatrisk slutenvårdsavdelning.
Background: The competence of the specialised nurse is a development of the knowledge and skill obtained in the elementary nursing education. The need for specialised nurses increases but as the work tasks of specialised and general nurses do not differ considerably, this may lead to the specialised nurses leaving the clinical area of work. The requested expertise will then be at risk of disappearing. On these grounds and as a way of clarifying the role of the specialised nurse in psychiatric in-patient care, it is of interest to observe how the specialised nurse is perceived and what the expectations of her competence are. Aim: to describe doctors' conceptions of the competence of the specialised nurse in psychiatric in-patient care. Method: Eight qualitative semi-structured interviews were analysed using a phenomenographic approach. Results: The main findings were summarised in five categories: The role of the specialised nurse is unclear and unseen; The specialised nurse executes special tasks; The specialised nurse possesses in-depth competence; Specialist skill leads to personal development and finally The specialised nurse is an ambassador. Conclusion: There is a need for an increased understanding of the competence of the specialised nurse in psychiatric in-patient care. In order for this to happen a clearer descripton of what it entails to work as a specialised nurse in in-patient care is requested.

Att identifiera och ta upp patienters alkoholproblematik ingår i sjuksköterskans arbetsuppgifter men rollen i samtal om alkohol är otydlig och många sjuksköterskor anser sig sakna tillräckligt med kunskap och utbildning för detta. Syfte: Syftet var att belysa de faktorer som påverkar sjuksköterskans samtal med patienter om alkohol. Metod: En litteraturöversikt baserad på fem kvalitativa och sex kvantitativa vetenskapliga artiklar utfördes. Artiklarna söktes i databaserna Cinahl Plus with Fulltext, Google Scholar, Medline, Nursing & Allied Health Source. Deras resultat granskades och analyserades efter likheter och olikheter, vilket resulterade i en sammanställning med nya teman. Resultat: Analysen resulterade i fem teman med faktorer som påverkar samtal om alkohol. Kunskap och utbildning visar att dessa har en positiv effekt på att samtal kring alkohol förs och att majoriteten av alla sjuksköterskor efterfrågar mer kunskap och utbildning. Resurser speglar faktorer som kan underlätta eller försvåra samtal. Sjuksköterskans personliga uppfattningar, beskriver hur dessa kan påverka bedömning av och förhållningssätt till patienten. Sjuksköterskans syn på sin roll i samtal om alkohol beskriver att de flesta sjuksköterskor anser att sådana samtal ingår i arbetsuppgifterna men att dessa inte alltid förs. Det sista temat, Sjuksköterskans känslor, belyser den egna osäkerheten inför samtal och rädslan för patienters negativa reaktioner. Diskussion: Resultatet vidareutvecklas med hjälp av livsvärldsteorin. Resonemang förs kring tänkbara orsaker till resurs- och kunskapsbrister. Försök till en djupare förståelse av sjuksköterskans egen osäkerhet, rädsla och uppfattning görs. Arbetsmiljöns betydelse för samtal och rådgivning lyfts fram och diskuteras med stöd från vetenskapliga studier.
Background: Since the 1990s alcoholkonsumtion in Sweden has increased and during the past ten years alcohol-related harm and treatment in hospital have increased as well. To identify and bring up patients' alcohol problems is included in the nurse's assignments but the role in dialogue about alcohol is unclear and many nurses regard themselves as lacking sufficient knowledge and training to do this. Aim: The aim was to illuminate the factors that influence the nurse's dialogue with patients about alcohol. Methods: A literature review based on five qualitative and six quantitative scientific articles was carried out. The search of the articles was conducted in the databases Cinahl Plus with Fulltext, Google Scholar, Medline, Nursing & Allied Health Source. The results of the articles were reviewed and analyzed according to similarities and differences, which led to a compilation with new themes. Results: The analysis lead to five themes with factors in fluencing dialogue about alcohol. Knowledge and education shows that these have a positive effect on whether dialogue takes place and that the majority of all nurses request more knowledge and education. Resources reflect factors which can facilitate or hinder dialogue. The nurse's personal views, describes how these can influence assessment of and attitude towards the patient. The nurse's view of her role in dialogue about alcohol describes that most nurses consider these dialogues to be part of their professional assignment but that they are not always carried out. The last theme, The nurse's feelings, illuminates her own insecurity to dialogue and fear of patients negative reactions. Discussions: The result is further developed with the help of the life-world theory. Reasoning out is made about possible causes for the resource and knowledge gaps that were found. A try to gain a deeper understanding of the nurse's own insecurities, fears and perceptions are made. Work environment important for conversation and advice are highlighted and discussed with support from scientific studies.

Annotation:
Malaysia is moving towards a developed country status and it is imperative that the healthcare provided be at a higher standard than it is today. As members of the healthcare team, nurses play an essential role in the provision of healthcare. As such it is timely that nurses’ education be upgraded. As most of them only have a certificate or diploma in nursing, one way to upgrade the nurses is by providing opportunities for a baccalaureate degree. However, due to the shortage of nurses, nurses find it a challenge to enroll in a full-time on-campus programme. One way to help nurses meet the challenge is by providing an online distance learning programme to Malaysian nurses. And, to ensure the success of the online distance learning programme, it was realized that the nursing students need to be adequately prepared for an online learning environment. How much preparation will be determined, among other things, by their prior experience and skill in using technology as well as by their belief and attitude towards online distance learning. A survey was conducted on a cohort group of students during a face-to-face precourse orientation, that is, prior to the start of the online program. The findings of the survey are presented and discussed in the paper and implications for the future are highlighted.
