In the late seventeenth century Mughal India, Guru Gobind Singh and his Sikh army became politically and militarily opposed to the policies of Emperor Aurangzeb in the Punjab country. The Sikhs were not unique in this regard as across Aurangzeb’s Empire credible insurgencies began undermining Mughal authority. While an earlier historiography of this era reasoned that such revolts were caused by Aurangzeb’s abandonment of secularism for Islamic fundamentalism, contemporary research has provided a more nuanced analysis by exploring the history and ideas of the rebels. In this article, I explore how the Sikh community engaged in a dialogue on Kshatriyahood which was both specific to the Punjab country and similar to dialogues found across Mughal India. In addition, my article explores the social history of caste in medieval and early modern Punjab and the contested identities of Kshatriyahood and Brahminhood.

Abstrak Rasio Prestasi Manajemen (RPM) dijabarkan sebagai hasil bagi antara debit yang diberikan dengan debit yang dibutuhkan di setiap lahan pertanian. Sistem subak di Bali didasari konsep sosio-teknis-religius dan ekonomis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghitung nilai RPM dan sebarannya serta mengetahui strategi distribusi air irigasi agar kinerja irigasi menjadi “cukup” hingga “baik” di Subak Gede Kedewatan Wilayah Kabupaten Gianyar. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan pendekatan analisis kuantitatif melalui survey dan pengukuran langsung di lapangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan persentase sebaran RPM kriteria “baik” sebanyak 5 subak (18,52%), “cukup” 4 subak (14,81%), “kurang” 9 subak (33,33%), dan “sangat kurang” 9 subak (33,33%). Nilai RPM subak di daerah hulu seluruhnya berada pada kriteria “sangat kurang” dengan nilai RPM 1, 85. Subak di daerah tengah seliruhnya berada dikriteria “kurang” dengan nilai RPM 1,45. Di hilir, subak yang berada di daerah ini memiliki kriteria yang “cukup” dan “baik” dengan sebaran nilai RPM 0,64 – 1,05. Subak yang mendapatkan air berlebih, kemudian sisa air irigasinya disalurkan menuju ke pangkung, yang akan menjadi sumber air utama untuk subak-subak natak tiyis (sadap tiris). Abstract The Management Performance Ratio (MPR) is a comparison between the water flowrate given and the water flowrate requirement for each agricultural land. The subak system in Bali is based on socio-technical-religious and economic concepts. This study aims to calculate the MPR value and its distribution as well as find out the irrigation water distribution strategy so that irrigation performance becomes "adequate" to "good" in Subak Gede Kedewatan, Gianyar Regency. This research was carried out using a quantitative analysis approach through surveys and direct measurements in the field. The result showed that percentage distribution of MPR criteria for "good" was 5 subaks (18.52%), "adequate" 4 subaks (14.81%), "poor" 9 subaks (33.33%), and "very poor" 9 subaks (33 ,33%). The MPR value of subak in the upstream area is entirely in the "very poor" criterion with an MPR value of 1.85. Followed by subak in the central region, all of them are in the "low" criterion with an MPR value of 1.45. In contrast to the downstream, the subaks in this area have the criteria of "adequate" and "good" with a distribution of RPM values ??of 0.64 - 1.05. Subaks that get excess water, then the rest of the irrigation water is channeled to the pangkung, which will be the main water source for subak natak tiyis (tapping taps).

The essay examines a Bengali adaptation of Macbeth, namely Rudrapal Natak (published 1874) by Haralal Ray, juxtaposing it with differently accented commentaries on the play arising from the English-educated elites of 19th Bengal, and relating the play to the complex phenomenon of Hindu nationalism. This play remarkably translocates the mythos and ethos of Shakespeare’s original onto a Hindu field of signifiers, reformulating Shakespeare’s Witches as bhairavis (female hermits of a Tantric cult) who indulge unchallenged in ghastly rituals. It also tries to associate the gratuitous violence of the play with the fanciful yearning for a martial ideal of nation-building that formed a strand of the Hindu revivalist imaginary. If the depiction of the Witch-figures in Rudrapal undercuts the evocation of a monolithic and urbane Hindu sensibility that would be consistent with colonial modernity, the celebration of their violence may be read as an effort to emphasize the inclusivity (as well as autonomy) of the Hindu tradition and to defy the homogenizing expectations of Western enlightenment

प्रस्तुत लेख आधुनिक नेपाली नाटक परम्पराका विशिष्ट प्रतिभा वासु शशी (१९९३ — २०४९) सँग सम्बन्धित छ । विधागत लेखनका दृष्टिले शशी मूलतः कविता र नाट्य विधामा बढी सक्रिय देखा पर्दछन् । वासु शशी २००७÷२००८ सालदेखि नेवारी नाट्यक्षेत्रमा प्रवेश गरे पनि २०२३ सालपछि नेपाली नाट्यविधातर्फ आकर्षित भएको प्रमाण तीन नाटक (नाटक सङ्ग्रह २०२४) बाट पाइन्छ । बाँसुरीमा नअटाएका धुनहरू (२०४२), उपहार (२०५१), वासु शशीका नाटक (२०५९) र बुद्ध (२०६६) शशीका प्रकाशित मौलिक नेपाली नाटक हुन् । वासु शशीका नाटक (२०५९) नामक नाटक सङ्ग्रहमा माया, ॐ नमः शिवाय, सुखको खोजीमा, बिर्सन नसकिने मान्छे, सच्याउन नसकिने गल्ती, आमा कहिल्यै मर्दिन, उपहार र तरबार नाटक सङ्कलित छन् । शशीका पूर्वाद्र्ध चरणका नाटकहरूले मूलतः व्यक्तिविशेषका जीवनीसँग सम्बन्धित व्यक्तिगत एवम् पारिवारिक घटनालाई प्रस्तुत गरेका छन् भने उत्तराद्र्धका नाटकहरूमा सामाजिक समस्याले प्रधानता पाएका छन् । प्रस्तुत अध्ययन वासु शशीको नाट्यकारिता शीर्षकमा तयार गरिएको छ । यस लेखमा वासु शशीको नाट्यकारिता केकस्तो छ भन्ने समस्यालाई लिइएको छ । यसअनुसार ती समस्याको समाधान गर्नुलाई यस लेखको उद्देश्य बनाइएको छ । यसका लागि प्राथमिक स्रोतअन्तर्गत शशीका नाटकहरूलाई गुणात्मक सोद्देश्य नमुना छनोट विधिमा लिई विश्लेषणका लागि सूक्ष्म पठन र समालोचनात्मक विधिको प्रयोग गरिएको छ । अन्तमा शशीलाई रिमाल र मल्लद्वयका समस्यामूलकता, मनोविज्ञान, यथार्थवाद िप्रवृत्ति र संवादकलाबाट प्रभावित भएर पनि चलचित्रोन्मुख नाट्यकारिता उनको मौलिकता भएको निष्कर्ष निकालिएको छ । (This article is related to Vasu Shashi (1993-2049), a unique talent of modern Nepali drama tradition. From the point of view of genre writing, Shashi appears to be more active in poetry and drama. Although Vasu Shashi entered the Newari theater scene from 2007-2008, the proof that he was attracted to Nepali theater after 2023 is found in 'Three Dramas' (a collection of Drama- 2024). The original Nepali plays published by Shashi are ' Bansurima Naataeka Dhunharu' (2042), Uphaar (2051), 'Vasu Shashika Natak' (2059) and 'Buddha' (2066). 'Vasu Shashika Natak' (2059) is a collection of dramas such as Maya, Om Namah Shivaay, Sukhako Khojima, Birsana Nasakine Manchhe, Sachyauna Nasakine Galti, Aama Kahilyai Mardina, Upahar, and Tarabar. The earlier dramas by Shashi basically presented personal and family events related to the biography of a particular person, while in the later dramas, social problems were given priority. The present study has been prepared under the title Dramatization in the Works by Vasu Sashi. In this article, the issue of Vasu Sashi's dramatization has been taken up. Accordingly, the purpose of this article is to solve those issues. For this, under the primary source, Sashi's dramas have been taken using qualitative purposeful sample selection method; and critical reading and analytical methods have been used for analysis. In the end, even though Shashi was influenced by Rimal's and Malla's problematism, psychology, realism tendency and dialogue skills; it has been concluded that his originality is film-oriented dramatization.)

Manipur, a small state in the North-Eastern India, is traditionally regarded in the Indian classics and epics such as Ramayana and Mahabharata as the home of gandharvas (the celestial dancers). Manipuri is one of the eleven dance styles of India that have incorporated various techniques mentioned in such ancient treatises as the Natya Shastra and Bharatarnava and has been placed by Sangeet Natak Akademi within ‘a common heritage’ of Indian classical dance forms (shastriya nritya): Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Manipuri, Mohiniyattam, Odissi, Sattriya, Chhau, Gaudiya Nritya, and Thang Ta. In the late-1950s Louise Lightfoot, the ‘Australian mother of Kathakali,’ visited Manipur to study and research different styles of Manipuri dance. There she met Ibetombi Devi, the daughter of a Manipuri Princess; she had started dancing at the age of four and by the age of twelve, she had become the only female dancer to perform the Meitei Pung Cholom on stage––a form of dance traditionally performed by Manipuri men accompanied by the beating of the pung (drum). In 1957, at the age of 20, Ibetombi became the first Manipuri female dancer to travel to Australia. This paper addresses Ibetombi Devi's cross-cultural dance collaboration in Australia with her impresario, Louise Lightfoot, and the impression she and her co-dancer, Ananda Shivaram, made upon audiences.

The study of translation history is crucial for understanding the choices and influences of translators, both in terms of their personal inclinations and external factors. Unfortunately, in Gujarat, the exploration of translation history has been limited to basic information such as dates, names of translations, and sometimes the names of translators. However, in the Western world, there has been a growing interest in translation history over the past three decades or so. Western scholars have embraced various theories and frameworks that emphasize the importance of investigating different facets of translation history, such as translator identity, patronage, censorship, support mechanisms, interventions, and the selection of texts. Interestingly, translation discussions often focus solely on the text itself, disregarding the translator as a cultural agent who enables the process of translation. By shedding light on the life and context of the translator, new facts and interpretations related to translation history can be discovered. One example of the association between Shakespeare’s plays and Gujarat dates to 1852 when the first adaptation of “Taming of the Shrew” was performed at St. Andrews Library in Surat. Since then, there have been numerous translations and adaptations of Shakespearean plays in Gujarat. However, very little is known about the lives and works of these translators. Bhanji Gokul Parekh is one such translator who rendered Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar into Gujarati, as Karunaras Julius Caesar Natak. Despite being the first translator of Shakespeare’s play, his contribution as a translator has been largely forgotten. Therefore, this paper aims to highlight Parekh’s significant contribution to translation history of Gujarat in the context of Shakespeare’s plays.

The history of drama in Asia is as old as the history of the world itself. In India however, according to the popular belief, the tradition of drama dates back to the prehistoric times. Due to this unique approach towards drama, that makes it a valuable divine gift for humanity, the esoteric significance of this art form has never seen decline in the cultural history of India. Drama, thus, acquires in Indian context a religious significance and represents as an art form the union of the celestial and the terrestrial. Drama (in Sanskrit Natak), in the Indian Subcontinent, has distinctive characteristic features. Essentially, as reflection of human existence, it is a combination of all the known art forms and, therefore, becomes the deepest expression of the human soul. The rise of Islamic culture and civilization in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries contributed to the amalgamation of the two great civilizations. The impact of the Muslim culture in transforming the classical features of Indian music, architecture, science, literature, etc. can by no means be undermined. By the end of the sixteenth century, the century of liberal humanism and coincidently the era of the rise of the Mughal Empire, the theatrical art had gained enormous significance in India. There is enough evidence to believe that Shakespeare’s plays were first performed in India during the reign of the Mughals (1526-1857). Later, the newly emerging colonial power, the English, in its first stronghold in India, Calcutta, established alongside other bureaucratic, political and educational institutions, the Garrison Theater. The earliest performances at this theater date back to 1770s and the first ever documented English play on the Indian soil happens to be Shakespeare’s Othello. Shakespeare’s unique dramatic structure smoothly found its place of prominence in the cultural life of India, offering new dimensions to the already existing rich local tradition and at the same time enriching its own dramatic expression. Today, all the major educational institutions of the Subcontinent cherish the tradition of mounting on stage the annual performances of Shakespeare’s plays and the cinematographic tradition has incorporated his works into its popular tradition from the very beginning of the history of the film industry in India.

Abstract. Christmas of Jesus Christ is an annual celebration whose history is often neglected. As an important part of the ecclesiastical calendar, writings about Christmas usually revolve around reinterpreting Christmas theologically. This article will review the Christmas of Jesus Christ from a historical perspective by examining ecclesiastical documents from the past as an effort to find historical evidence regarding the Christmas event of Jesus Christ on December 25. By analizing historical documents, it was showed that Christmas on December 25 was recorded in early church documents and was not merely the result of acculturation from pagan culture, thus making the church have a basis for celebrating Christmas in accordance with Divine time pattern.Abstrak. Natal Yesus Kristus adalah perayaan tahunan yang sejarahnya sering diabaikan. Sebagai bagian penting dalam kalender gerejawi, tulisan tentang Natal biasanya berkutat tentang pemaknaan ulang mengenai Natal secara teologis. Tulisan ini akan mengulas Natal Yesus Kristus dari perspektif historis dengan meneliti dokumen-dokumen gerejawi dari masa lalu sebagai usaha mencari dan menemukan bukti-bukti sejarah tentang peristiwa Natal Yesus Kristus pada tanggal 25 Desember. Dengan memperhatikan dokumen-dokumen sejarah yang tersedia, didapati hasil dari penelitian ini adalah penetapan Natal 25 Desember sudah tercatat dalam dokumen gereja mula-mula dan bukan semata-mata hasil akulturasi dari budaya pagan, sehingga membuat gereja memiliki dasar untuk merayakan Natal sesuai dengan tata pola waktu Ilahi.

Di Indonesia, pertolongan persalinan yang memanfaatkan tenaga kesehatan khususnya bidan oleh ibu bersalin masih sangat rendah jika dibandingkan dengan indikator kesehatan yang ditetapkan pemerintah. Seorang ibu bersalin memiliki resiko kematian yang tinggi apabila proses persalinan ditolong oleh tenaga kesehatan yang tidak terampil dan terlatih. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan pemilihan penolong persalinan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan pemilihan tempat persalinan. Desain penelitian ini adalah cross sectional dan menggunakan sampel sebanyak 34 responden. Hasil analisis Bivariat menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan antara umur (p value = 0,013), pekerjaan (p value = 0,01), paritas (p value = 0,013), dan pengetahuan (p value = 0,021) dengan pilihan tempat pengiriman. Hasil Analisis Multivariat. Dari kelima variabel tersebut didapatkan bahwa terdapat 2 variabel yang mempengaruhi pemilihan tempat bersalin yaitu p value (0,028) < 0,05, Terdapat 1 variabel yang memiliki p value 0,058 > 0,05 yang artinya Ho diterima artinya tidak ada pengaruh antara pilihan tempat bersalin Hasil dari dinas kesehatan setempat disarankan untuk meningkatkan fasilitas kesehatan dan meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat dalam memilih tenaga kesehatan dan tenaga kerja sebagai penolong persalinan
