It is an object of sports equipment, which will be mainly used for ice hockey, as well as for the organization of other sporting and social events. The main objective in the design of architectural buildings were to meet modern requirements for the operation and use of the sports hall. Mass solution hall is designed as part of a hyperbolic curve, which rotates around a central axis. This substance is added next curve and along the perimeter. It is a sine wave, which is twice reflected on the mass of the object. This curve separates the roofing structure from the construction and glazing adds mass element dynamics, which is in my opinion the sporting character of the buildings needed. Construction is due to this curve seems to be constantly moving. This curve has another purpose and that the highest point of the curve are a total of two, is the main entrances to the building and the curve that creates a kind of "entry portal".

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the applications of multifunctional compos- ite (MFC) technology to nano-satellite structures and to produce a working concept design, which can be implemented on future Cube-Satellites (CubeSats). MFC tech- nologies can be used to optimise the performance of the satellite structure in terms of mass, volume and the protection it provides. The optimisation of the structure will allow further room for other sub-systems to be expanded and greater payload allowance. An extensive literature view of existing applications of MFC materials has been conducted, along with the analysis of a MFC CubeSat structural design account- ing for the environmental conditions in space and well-known design practices used in the space industry. Numerical analysis data has been supported by empirical analysis that was done where possible on the concept material and structure. The ndings indicate that the MFC technology shows an improvement over the conventional alu- minium structures that are currently being used. Improvements in rigidity, mass and internal volume were observed. Additional functions that the MFC structure o ers include electrical circuitry and connections through the material itself, as well as an increase electromagnetic shielding capability through the use of carbon- bre composite materials. Empirical data collected on the MFC samples also show good support for the numerical analysis results. The main conclusion to be drawn from this work is that multifunctional composite materials can indeed be used for nano-satellite structures and in the same light, can be tailor-made to the speci c mission requirements of the satellite. The technology is in its infancy still and has vast room for improvement and technological development beyond this work and well into the future. Further improvements and additional functions can be added through the inclusion of various other materials.

Over time, the lack of coherent thought concerning the potential roles of urban open spaces has resulted in the necessity of urban management to become vigilant with regard to the collective aspects of city life. Urban open spaces are especially significant in this regard. In giving attention to the scale, continuity, distribution and status of public open space in Cape Town and indeed, in all South African urban centres, developing the role of public spaces in the lives of the urban poor is especially crucial. This study examines the concept of the ability of multifunctional urban open space in playing the role of a socio-economic developmental tool. In this endeavour, two fundamental approaches are used. The first investigates the significance of open space and examines the history of open space and park development. Cases of successful park developments are presented so as to identify central conceptual ideas and certain key success factors. The second uses a local park proposal, the Cape Flats Urban Park, as an instrument with which to explore the concept. This involves integrating the notions of natural process needs and human needs so as to inform use. Accordingly, a natural systems analysis discovers the particular ecological needs of the area through factors of opportunity and constraint and a potential park user analysis discovers the characteristics and needs of human users, in order to discern what role the urban park could play in enabling socio-economic development and improving quality of life. Consequently, resultant guidelines for planning successful multifunctional open spaces are summarised, and further considerations and guiding principles for multifunctional open space planning are presented. These insights are applied and determine broad distributional tendencies, which may assist towards the creation of a successful plan for the Cape Flats Urban Park and other open spaces. The procedure in which these investigations were followed through was primarily through an extensive literature survey, supplemented by personal observation, map surveys and informal interviews. The findings of this study endorse the proposal for a multifunctional Cape Flats Urban Park, as this park could play conservation, resource preservation, flood control, productive, economic, ceremonial, cultural, educational, health improving, recreational and community-building roles. As such, urban open spaces have the potential to become multifaceted resources, with both intangible and tangible benefits for nature and for people, all of which can improve the quality of life for city dwellers, by improving the quality of the environment in which they live.

Annotation:
The thesis entitled “This is Africa giving form to the informal” arose from a concern with the growing levels of poverty and unemployment in South Africa and the recognition that small scale, self-generated economic activity provides an important means of survival for the very poor. It acknowledges the positive contributions that informal street trading makes to the urban environment. The dissertation draws upon a study of recently initiated projects that aimed to legitimise informal trading, by integrating it in the built environment. It is also driven by a study of the way in which traders organise, claim and define space in the urban environment. This process can be seen as the way in which traders themselves seek legitimacy. Collectively, case studies revealed a number of key elements necessary for the legitimisation of informal trade. Although the area of the proposed intervention is the Pretoria Station precinct, the study acknowledges that there are universal elements contained in informal trading. These elements establish a set of principles that define the minimal intervention necessary in order to allow opportunities for trade to as many people as possible whilst giving the traders themselves the maximum possible room to manoeuvre. In essence, the approach does not argue for the formalisation or ‘neatening’ of informal activity, but aims to give form to activities frequently regarded as illegal, and to provide street market spaces that can function as essential forms of urban infrastructure (Dewar 1990:xi).

The main task of diploma is creating a sacral object and community centre of Salesians in Brno-Líšeň. A construction of the Salesian complex started in 1998. As a result, the whole complex of institution got to the district of Brno-Lisen with the help of the endowment fund for youth. The Congregation focuses on the methods of educating the youth of Don Bosco, the father and teacher of the youth, the first head of the Salesian. The creation of a church is a very desirable step for the Salesian Center, because Masses are currently being celebrated in the existing building in the gym, where not everything is needed to carry out of the event. The church should be developed in the vicinity of Salesian centre and has to be available for a wide range of societies. The architectural project includes the designing of church, parish building and enviroment. The form and view of the complex suit to this environmental area and react on its entire structure. The object consists of two forms, which are connected by the horizontal communication. In the middle of the Salesian complex, there is a semi-open area. The first object is a church with a capacity of approximately 200 hundred visitors, the second object is a parish building, which perform the functions of administration with multifunction space for the exhibitions, aparmtments and offices for its employees.

The densification of cities in Sweden often result in loss of green space and puts the beneficial values of urban green space under risk. Especially affected are the inhabitants residing in the city core. Through a qualitative case study of Sundbyberg city, this study aims to explore which features of green spaces that becomes important for residents in a city undergoing fast densification. As well as how the needs are answered from a planning perspective. In order to illustrate both perspectives, the study consists of interviews with planners and residents. The results of the study show that the few green spaces in the city core in large have been compensated with small spaces working as multifunctional places. One example of a multifunctional place is a pocket park. This, planners and residents show both a positive and negative view on. The benefits are simply about that it is needed. The disadvantages raised are mainly about the feelings of those places as private and closed space for some people, although these places origins as open space. The study shows that many similarities prevail between the planners and residents views on the different importance’s of the city’s green spaces. It also shows that there is a discrepancy between the residents experienced needs of green spaces and the planner’s vision of the citys future development. While the residents seem to want more quiet places and places for spontaneous activities, especially to meet the needs of elderly and young. The planner’s visions of the citys development seem to go more towards creating small, to some extent green, safe places which connects different parts of the city.

This thesis aims to investigate the attitudes towards organic farming and how agricultural space is understood among organic farmers in the Swedish region of Halland and then to relate this to the ongoing discussion on multifunctional agricultural transition. The research is based on a field study on nine different organic farms in Halland, where qualitative interviews have been conducted for the creation of the empirical results. Using the theory of planned behavior and the concept of the “good farmer”, the thesis has revealed that the organic farming community in Halland is heterogeneous and different perspectives and attitudes are expressed about organic farming and agriculture. While the farmers are driven by many aspects of organic farming, the attitudes towards agriculture are often in line with traditional productivist ideals highlighting clean fields and high yields, even though many organic farmers have started to question the traditional norms often due to the different conditions met by organic farmers. Due to the various attitudes represented, the range within the multifunctional agricultural spectrum is rather wide were some organic farmers understand agricultural space more in line with productivist ideals while others express attitudes in line with organic farming principles, suggesting a strong multifunctional understanding of agricultural space.

Colorado Springs' downtown streets are primarily automobile-oriented, which has lead to a deficiency of multi-modal transportation networks and user-oriented environments. The streets lack engaging public space, pedestrian and bicyclist amenities, native landscaping, and stormwater management systems. The auto-centric design presents significant physical and perceived safety issues concerning pedestrians and bicyclists in the right-of-way. The aim of this study is to redesign the downtown core of Colorado Springs to foster multifunctional user-oriented spaces which enhance overall environmental, social, and economic benefits. In order to complete this study, background literature research and a series of case studies were conducted. The ultimate goal of this masters project is to create a retrofit streetscape design for Colorado Springs that can be used as a model for other planners and designers. The results of this project will be significant to designers because it will provide them with information regarding the best practices for designing urban streetscapes that activate the public realm and promotes safety.

Creativity and innovation are two forces that impel industries. Product design is often assigned to a team consisting of members from different backgrounds. To support the collaboration, there are many special places built for creativity and innovation, referred to as “creative space” in this thesis. Doing the project in a well-designed creative space can enhance creativity and productivity. However, most creative spaces are still using the facilities and furniture from common conference rooms, even though they are built for other purposes. Due to different working modes, the conference room does not suit for group design processes. It is still not widely accepted that what features the creative space should have to enhance the creativity. In order to design the creative space that meets the needs of the design teams, research has been done to identify the influencing factors that impact creativity. Based on these factors, observations and interviews are also carried out to analyze the influencing factors and gather data. The general concept and final solution is generated based on all the researches. As a result of this thesis, the prototype of a creative desk is carried out at the end. Some fundamental researches and discussions about the creativity stimulation are also analyzed to shed some light on this research field.

ABSTRACT: Cascais is a municipality that has shown a high urban and demographic growth in recent decades. This has become a point of reference in national tourism and as a county where the quality of life has been increasing. However there are urban centers scattered throughout the county that did not follow this development and the new urban planning that the region was suffering over time. The Marechal Carmona neighborhood is one of these examples of fragmentation that the landscape of Cascais presents. Being a social district of the Estado Novo period, it is quite aged and degraded and has not changed since the 1950s. Its population is quite old, and most of its residents live there since its construction. Presenting itself as a housing-only neighborhood, it has a lack of equipment and services that can improve the living conditions of its population, as well as a lack of use of public space for collective purposes. In response to these aspects, it is proposed to build multifunctional and intergenerational equipment that will serve the current population of the neighborhood, and which may come in the future through new activities and services, framed in a total rehabilitation of the neighborhood. This rehabilitation process in which the proposal is inserted also incorporates new housing with different typologies, new accesses and a new use of public space, requalifying its urban net, in an attempt to rejuvenate it architecturally, socially and to connect it with its surroundings, consolidating the image of the municipality of Cascais.

Subramaniam, C. „Chemorhelogical Modeling Of Amine-Cured Multifunctional Epoxy Resin Systems Used As Matrices In Aerospace Composites“. Thesis, Indian Institute of Science, 1994. http://hdl.handle.net/2005/127.

Der volle Inhalt der Quelle
Annotation:
High performance multifunctional epoxy resin systems are becoming increasingly important as matrix materials for the advanced composites used in aerospace, electronics, automotive and other industries. In a composite based on epoxy resin systems, a three-dimensional network of the matrix is formed around the reinforcing fibre as a result of the chemical reaction between the resin and the curing agent. This chemical process, known as curing, is an important event to he considered in the production of composite components made up of these resin systems. Two process parameters namely viscosity and chemical conversion are of paramount significance in the production of composite materials Curing studies of the resin systems based on these two parameters, would therefore assume great importance in deciding the performance reliability of the end product. The objectives of the present investigation are 1. to study the cure kinetics of three thermoset resin systems, viz., i) epoxy novolac (EPIT)/ diamino diphenyl methane{DDM), ii) trigylcidyl para- ammo phenol (TGPAP)/toluene diamine (TDA) and iii) tetraglycidyl diamino diphenyl methane (TGDDM)/pyridine diamine(PDA) using the cure kinetic models based on chemical conversion (α), Theological conversion (β) and viscosity. 2.to develop a correlation between a and viscosity (η) and modify an existing autocatalytic model based on α, to the viscosity domain and 3.to investigate the cure behaviour of these systems in terms of the TTT cure diagram and its associated models. EPN/DDM, TGPAP/PDA and TGDDM/PDA resin systems were chosen for the studies to represent a range of functionalities, The cure was monitored using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) techniques by following the changes in enthalpy, functional groups and rheology, respectively. The kinetic parameters namely, order of reaction and activation energy were estimated from dynamic DSC data using the methods of Freeman-Carroll and Ellerstein using nth rate expression. Barton, Kissinger and Osawa methods were employed to find out the activation energy from the peak/equal conversion at different heating rates. Isothermal DSC data were also analyzed using nth order model and it was observed that the data could be fitted satisfactorily only for higher temperatures The results obtained from the analysis of both dynamic and isothermal DSC data using nth order model clearly indicate that this model is inadequate for describing the cure behavior. The isothermal DSC data was analyzed by the autocatalytic models of Hone and Kamal Good correlation was observed with Hum and Kamal models up to 60-70%, 25% and 45% conversions for EPN/DDM, TGPAP/TDA and TCDDM/PDA systems respectively. However, the parameters m and n in Kamal model were found to be temperature dependent for EPN/DDM and TCPAP/TDA systems. The limited applicability of the autocatalytic models IK attributed to the counter-effect offered by the intra-molecular bonding taking place. The primary amine and epoxy groups conversions obtained from FTIR were analyzed using autocatalytic model and the kinetic parameters were calculated. The reactivity ratio of the primary amine and the secondary amine with epoxy was found to be dependent on temperature in agreement with the recent findings reported m the literature. The existing models that relate the cure kinetics and the rheological changes, are dual Arrhenius nth order model and autocatalytic model The nth order kinetic model was used to evaluate the kinetic parameters using the viscosity data at different cure temperatures under isothermal conditions As the storage modulus, G' is proportional to the chemical cross links and becomes significant only after the g<4 point, it was used to follow the changes in conversion known as rheoconversion after the gel point The rheoconversion was found by normalizing the G' data with G1^, the storage modulus of the fully cured resin It was used to study the cuie kinetics using an autocatalytic model The kinetic parameters such as rate constant, acceptation and retardation parameters were evaluated and that temperature dependence was established. While the existing models relate viscosity and conversion only up to gel point the new proposed model, termed VISCON model takes into account the changes up to vitrification. The relation so developed is used to modify the autocatalytic cure model based on chemical conversion. The parameters appearing in this model were evaluated using Levenberg-Marquardt error minimization algorithm. The kinetic parameters obtained are comparable with the values estimated using the DSC data. All the models cited above represent the microkinetic aspects. The models based on the information of TTT cure diagrams, however, represent the macrokinetic aspects of the cure, as they are based on the cure stages such as gelation and vitrification TTT diagram relates the cure characteristics like cure temperature, cure time, Ta and, indirectly, chemical conversion Hence the ultimate properties of the composite could he predicted and established with the help of the models based on TTT cure diagrams The changes in the storage modulus, G1 and loss modulus, G", were followed to identify the gel and vitrification points of the resin systems at different cure temperatures Gel point and vitrification point were used to generate gelation and vitrification hues in the construction of TTT cure diagrams for EPN/DDM, TGPAP/TDA and TGDDM/PDA resin systems Theoretical TTT diagrams were generated and IBO-T, contours were established using the TTT diagram-based models The cure schedule for the resin systems investigated could be determined from the TTT diagram and the respective rheological data.

The chapel of the former boromeian closter in Teplice is an important example of the work of monastery art school of benedictins of Beuron. The closter, today the building of the high school of Teplice, was built on the place of former city walls, connected by a prestigeous bouleward with the city center. Today, the building is surrounded by a non-valuable buildings, the bouleward is full of transport during the whole day and near is a highway. The old architectural structure was mainly destroyed and replaced by block of flats made of concrete. The topic ic getting the life back into the building and connect the building back into the public space, to join the "public=city" with the "private=school". The topic is to gain back the dignity and certain monumentality. The topic is to create the space for school activities, workschops, meetings, exhibitions, happenings, and last, but not least, weddings. The high school students should be the future intelectual elity of the space and newly reconstructed space may has the power to reinforce their linkage with the place, which can possibly mean they will search for a job in Teplice after their university studies. I belive, that the architecture has the power to attach the people to the space and to establish the genius loci. And such an opening of the space deserve the gymnasium and the chapel (which is not known to the public in Teplice) 20 years after the Velvet revolution, which itselves, was an opening of the space on the level of politics.

The study is the analysis of spatial changes of the multifunctional building, characterized by the Plano Massa with the urban environment marked by the Southern Strutural Axis in Curitiba, between 1966 and 2008. The Plano Massa consists in an architectural and urbanistic configuration built according the guidelines of specific legal occupation in the structural axis, which were first defined on the \"Preliminary Master Plan\" in 1965. Their definition characterized the city´s growth as linear, following specific land use, transportation and road system guidelines. The linear corridors conduct the city expansion, tangential to the city center. The building/neighborhood spatial relation affects the transition between public spaces as the covered galleries, and semi-public, as inside the buildings in which the process of urban transformation is found on the deformed migration process. Migration is the transition, with a variety of physical, social and functional degrees, from public spaces into the interior of the buildings. Deformation corresponds to the changes of use, caused by the ownership and consequently the change of the building´s meaning from a public space to a semi-public space. Therefore, the main hypothesis is, with the tension among the forces of urban planning rules, the requirements of the property market and social changes, economic and cultural, there was a trend in reducing the use of public spaces for pedestrians, added to the deformed migration to inside the multifunctional buildings, in the Southern Strutural Axis in Curitiba during the period of analisys. The objective is to advance the historical and theoretical reflection on these buildings and their inter-relationship with the urban space in order to provide support for teaching architecture and urban design and developing projects in this area in similar contexts. From the analysis of economic scenarios, there are identified three moments that these urban transformations have occurred. The first one (1966-1971) refers to the Structural Axis as a design concept, inspired on the modernist mind set when the Master Plan met the specific legislation. The second period (1971-1983) includes the Plano Massa to the planning, with redefinition of the modern thought by the establishment of the buildings occupation. The third period (1983-2008) includes the adaptation of these rules to the political and property market and the changes in the production of urban space as the result of the migration mentioned. To achieve the proposed objective and to prove the hypothesis, the methodological procedures are: the organization of the data from the buildings constructed, followed by the identification of the buildings´ typology by the year of their development, and the analysis of deformed migration spaces by the appearance or disappearance of the types identified, using the spacial permeability as a parameter. The historical periods seek to explain the changes between modern theory and postmodern practice. Thus, the analysis seeks to clarify certain principles of post-modernity that can be observed in the studied cases, determined by the advent of consumerism, the home improvement for socialization, the commerce encapsulation inside the corridors and protected galleries, as a physical security, and some other responsible features as the urban culture enrichment, developed by various social actors.

Several newly-formed families with the coming of a first child have as their first decision to optimize the space of the baby's room in front of the presence of apartments with increasingly small areas. Within this decision-making, we identify as a common problem the purchase decision on the furniture for the baby's room, what they are looking for is to optimize the reduced space they have in the room, and together with this they review the cost and benefit that It mainly generates the purchase of the crib for the baby. The objective of this business is to offer a product that helps families solve the problem of reduced space in the baby's room in an apartment, where you will not only be able to optimize space with our product, but will also save the future expenses that it usually generates when changing a crib for a bed, since our product, apart from being a multifunctional crib, also becomes 5 functional pieces (single bed, chest of drawers, nightstand, shelf and desk), helping to this way to the optimization of space and also to the economy of the family nucleus. Finally, another objective of our product is to contribute to the protection of the environment, which is why we use melanin as the main material, which is made of eco-friendly material.

More than half of the world population lives in cities and this proportion is increasing. In order to welcome new populations avoiding urban sprawl, to make our existing cities more sustainable, besides generating new facilities and making changes, the use of current facilities should be more efficient as well. To satisfy these goals, new opportunities have to be found to strengthen the urban sustainability. The multifunctionality of urban spaces might be an efficient concept to (re)design cities and to propose new urban planning rules. The aim of our research is studying the possibilities of reviving public, semi-public and private spaces, for functions other than their main destination and during their idle hours, to consider them as multi-functional shared urban spaces. Different types of relation between function(s) of space and time have been studied. It has been tried to clarify the definition of “multifunctional space” in architecture and urban design based on definitions of the concepts in agriculture and landscape. About 80 cases have been analyzed which are spontaneously used as a multifunctional space or which have the potential to be one. 30 criteria have been selected for studying and analyzing multifunctional urban spaces. The final result is the criteria recommended to take into account while transforming a mono-functional space to a multifunctional one. These criteria would lead us to the information that must be gathered in order to create a GIS data-base customized for this purpose. This research is concluded with a discussion of the capacities of GIS software in the way to improve the operation of an urban space through the multifunctionality

This master thesis is exploring a possibility of densifying traditional block structure of a city by the design of a multifunctional building. It is located in Brno exactly in Brno centrum city part. The building site is defined by Veveří, Kounicova and Pekárenská streets. On the forth side there is existing block of flats on the Sokolská Street. The design itself is based on the form of a traditional enclosed block of flats, but masses are oriented differently. The basic principle is layering when first two floors are commercially oriented and therefore accessible by public. Living areas are separated by position above. The roof, connecting all of the buildings, is taking role of a traditional courtyard. In this case, it stays visually connected with surrounding street life and newly formed commercial parts. Masses of the complex are reflecting different city structures on each side. It encloses on the side of the Veveří Street which creates undisturbed street corridor. New structure opens more to Kounicova Street and reflects free city pattern of this part.

The thesis deals with the design of a sustainable urban structure, based on a medieval city, in the 21st century. The main idea of the proposal is the creation of a new part of the town Náměšť nad Oslavou with the aim of connecting it with the existing urban structure and at the same time extending it to the missing elements of the developing city. The newly built area is designed with an emphasis on the construction of new residential housing with civil facilities services, while designing and creating public spaces and private parts of courtyards and villas. The aim of the thesis was to design a growing territory so that it adapts to the needs of today's society and at the same time became part of the existing city. From an urban point of view, based on the theme of the thesis, the aim is to combine elements of a medieval city with elements of a city built in the 21st century. The concept is based on a planned network of streets with multifunctional buildings designed for trade and production in the ground floor and housing on other floors, which originated in the medieval city. The emblem of the medieval city was the emotional perception of the connection of strict lines and strange shapes into one whole, and therefore buildings were designed in a new part of the city for living with almost clean geometric lines, while the objects of civil facilities are organic shapes.

Despite a few decades of discussion and the existence of all the studies on the transfer of the Brno Main Station to the river and the subsequent construction of the new Trnitá district, it has not been decided on the exact architectural form of these major urban interventions. In my pre-diploma thesis, I worked out an urban study of a new southern district - Trnitá, which gave above all a functional and mass form of the territory. This location will be extremely interesting for both the city's visitors, who will be moving from the station to the center, and of course for the potential new residents of the district. The district offers a unique combination of city life and recreation in the immediate vicinity of the natural river and park features. For a more detailed elaboration, I chose a building within a walk-through block by a river consisting of two buildings. My goal was to create a new scenery for what's happening in the neighborhood, to design new scenarios for how we can look at blocks. Given the contact with the waterfront and the river, I decided to propose both private and public functions. An important role is played by the courtyard, which defines a private space (a raised platform intended only for the residents of the house) and a public space - a creative center courtyard using a raised part as a residence bench. The mass of the house is horizontally divided into two parts. The first and second floors belong to the creative center, which is transparent with distinctive stone columns. An important goal was to show the life and movement of the center and its openness to new people and ideas - access from the yard. From the third floor there are apartments that are terraced and offer views of the river and roof terraces of deluxe apartments.

Increasingly unpredictable, extreme and erratic rainfall with higher temperatures threatens to undermine the adaptive capacity of food systems and ecological resilience of smallholder landscapes. Despite growing concern, land managers still lack quantitative techniques to collect empirical data about the potential impact of climatic variability and change. This thesis aims to assess how ecosystem services and function and how this links with biodiversity and human wellbeing in smallholder agro-ecosystems in a changing climate. To this end, rather than relying on scenarios or probabilistic modelling, space was used as a proxy for time to compare states in disparate climatic conditions. Furthermore, an integrated methodological framework to assess ecosystem services at the field and landscape level was developed and operationalised, the results of which can be modelled with measures of wellbeing. Various multidisciplinary analytical tools were utilised, including ecological and socio-economic surveys, biological assessments, participatory open enquiry, and documenting ethnobotanical knowledge. The study was located within monsoon rice farms in the Terai Plains of Nepal, and dry season vegetable farms in Northern Ghana. Sites were selected that are climatically and culturally diverse to enable comparative analysis, with application to broad areas of adaptive planning. The linkages that bring about biophysical and human changes are complex and operate through social, political, economic and demographic drivers, making attribution extremely challenging. Nevertheless, it was demonstrated that within hotter and drier conditions in Ghana long-tongued pollinators and granivores, important for decomposition processes and pollination services, are more abundant in farms. Results further indicated that in cooler and drier conditions in Nepal, the taxonomic diversity of indigenous and close relative plant species growing in and around farms, important for the provisioning of ecosystem services, decreases. All other things equal, in both Nepal and Ghana findings indicate that overall human wellbeing may be adversely effected in hotter conditions, with a potentially significantly lower yields, fewer months of the year in which food is available, higher exposure to natural hazards and crop loss, unemployment, and psychological anxiety. Yet, surveys indicate smallholders continue to maintain a fair diversity of species in and around farms, which may allow them to secure basic necessities from provisioning ecosystem services. Moreover, farmers may employ adaptive strategies such as pooling labour and food sharing more frequently, and may have greater access to communication, technology, and infrastructure. Novel methodological and empirical contributions of this research offer predictive insights that could inform innovations in climate-smart agricultural practice and planning.

The diploma thesis deals with the design and elaboration of the project documentation of a polyfunctional house with a café in Kyjov. The new building is located in the northern part of the city. It is a 4 floor object, partlial basement building with a saddle roof. The house is based on plain concrete slabs. The supporting peripheral and internal masonry is designed from POROTHERM brick blocks. In the cafeteria, an open layout is proposed using beams and columns. Ceiling structures are designed from the POROTHERM MIAKO system. The roof structure is designed with a truss with sheet metal cover. The perimeter walls in the 1PP are designed from blocks of loose formwork filled with concrete, which are insulated with extruded polystyrene. The building is functionally divided into 2 parts, each with its own entrance. The café is equipped with a vestibule, its own café, toilet for women and men with cabins for handicapped visitors and a background with a storeroom, dressing room and WC with a hall. The residential part consists of 4 garages and 6 apartments, 2 of which are adapted for the handicapped. The object is designed with natural ventilation. The object is barrier-free. In front of the building is proposed a parking space for 9 seats, 2 of which are designed for handicapped and 2 for apartment owners.

The assignment is an architecture and urban planning study of a sports and recreation center. The solved area is located in the town of Vsetín, in the part called Ohrada. Nowdays, the area is obsolete, unfunctional and also unmodern. My project is mainly focused to create a concept that responds to the environment, offers outdoor and indoor spaces for all generations. It allows better connection with nature, variable use, and division of area by function. The design is defined by the river Bečva on the west side and a busy 1st class road on the east side. It was important to separate pedestrians and cyclists from motor vehicles. The response to this restriction is to direct traffic in the area to the west, towards the river. This creates a terrain works that optically deflects the design in a quieter direction. Buildings are placed in the line and oriented in the western direction. After creating the terrain, I divided the area into several segments according to functionality. In the heart of the area, a multifunctional central hall with an inner climbing wall is set in the terrain. In front of it is a public space for meetings, sports and recreation. On the other side, there is a basketball court, a workout playground, a children's playground in front of the hall and a rest area of ??greenery closer to the river. If we continue southerly down, another cube set into the terrain is a building with a restaurant and a cafe. The southernmost building is a tennis club with facilities for athletes and squash. In front of the building there is a 9x tennis court with a grandstand. Closer to the river and the bike path there is an outdoor climbing wall. From the newly created embankment, the area is divided by a cycle path around the river. Behind the bridge is a green belt separated area which, unlike the previous ones, is tuned in a calmer spirit. We will find a building of a yoga and meditation center.

The submission of this thesis was preceded by a specialised studio „Brněnské nábřeží a kulturní čtvrť Ponava“. This work focused on a complex urban architectural solution to the area around the former “Jaselská kasárna”, the urban context, transport services, the field configuration etc. The thesis follows this project in a section defined by streets U Červeného mlýna, Staňkova and Střední. The goal of the thesis lies in the creation of an intensive goal – a cultural area, which will offer a high-quality space for intergenerational communication and new social experiences and activities. It newly connects the urban part Ponava with the town center of Brno by a high-quality axis for pedestrian and cycling transport. The project of this cultural area arose after a thorough analysis of surrounding, intercity and global relations as a combination of aims: for children – the elementary art school with graphic and dancing fields, for seniors – leisure time center, and for all together - a multifunctional concert hall and a revitalized area of the former industrial zone of furniture production to a multipurpose intergenerational area with a modern art gallery, offices for young businessmen, architects and artists, and a music club in the basement of the gallery.

Hurst, Katie. „Designing for Food, Community and Multi-Use Space: Lessons Learned from Grassroots Urban Agriculture“. Thesis, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10214/3564.

Annotation:
Grassroots urban agriculture projects are highly interactive spaces, allowing people from different socio-cultural and economic backgrounds to learn, play and work together. They offer unconventional urban greenspace and recreational opportunities and contribute to urbanites’ understanding of how food is grown. Landscape architects can contribute numerous professional strengths to the design of these food-oriented landscapes. Case study research at Hackney City Farm, UK, and Prinzessinnengarten, Germany, illustrates that grassroots projects could benefit from a strong spatial design and increased layering of on-site uses in order to serve a greater cross-section of the community than at present. This research culminates in the design of a multifunctional food-oriented landscape at Brant Avenue Public School, Guelph, and is shaped by the case study findings and literature on participatory design and facilitation. The research demonstrates how landscape architects can work with community groups to provide a high diversity of on-site uses and user experience.
