Abstract Statistics from the Central Statistical Office (CSO) state that the total number of motor vehicles and mopeds in Poland in 2019 was 31,989,313 units. According to the Central Register of Vehicles (CEPiK) maintained by the Ministry of Digitalisation, the number of motor vehicles registered in Poland in 2019 was 23,878.8 thousand units. Among them, 18,302.4 thousand passenger cars were registered. The constantly increasing number of vehicles on the road has a significant impact on the deterioration of road capacity and drivers’ frustration with parking, especially during rush hours in the centres of large cities. Hence, urban logistics, including the country’s parking policy, is extremely important to a significant proportion of citizens. Unfortunately, citizens have different perspectives on parking issues. Most drivers expect to be able to leave their car as close as possible to their destination, while some residents, especially non-motorised ones, are against the conversion of free city space into car parks. In response to the presented issues, a comparative analysis of selected types of car parks was carried out. This analysis was one of the stages of the project entitled: “Analysis of the environmental impact of a vertical parking solution using life cycle assessment at the design stage” carried out at the Silesian University of Technology.

AbstractAtmospheric turbulence is encountered frequently in flight and it creates oncoming flow disturbances of varying direction and magnitude for aircraft passing through turbulent zones. The unique measurement set-up on a motorised glider enables the investigation of the flow processes acting on a laminar wing section in flight through atmospheric turbulence. The expected quasi-steady aerofoil characteristics are deduced from an investigation of boundary-layer transition under calm flight conditions. Spanwise frequency–wavenumber spectra and comparisons with linear stability theory (LST) yield insight into the linear and weakly nonlinear stages of transition. Simultaneous measurement of the oncoming flow, characteristic flow quantities on the wing section and the motion of the aerofoil enables correlations between these quantities and provides insight into the unsteady flight physics. Emphasis is placed on the response of laminar–turbulent transition to moderate free-stream turbulence on both sides of the wing section. On the lower side of the aerofoil significant and rapid upstream fluctuations of transition are observed, which correspond closely to variations in the pressure distribution. Wavelet analysis is applied to gain insight into the composition of these streamwise excursions of the transition front in the time-pseudo-frequency domain. It is shown that they are driven by rapid transient base-flow changes and that transition is initiated by a short growth stage of Tollmien–Schlichting (TS) waves.

Abstract. We present Nikon–TRACKFlow, a new system with dedicated modules for automated microscope control and imaging for the fission track laboratory. It serves as a Nikon alternative for the Zeiss-based TrackWorks package from Autoscan Systems. Nikon–TRACKFlow is based on the Nikon Eclipse Ni-E motorised upright microscope and is embedded within Nikon NIS-Elements software. The system decouples image acquisition from analysis to decrease schedule stress of the microscope based on a number of automated user-friendly designs and protocols: (1) the well plate design that allows sequential scanning of multiple samples without the need of replacing the slide on the stage; (2) two protocols that are designed for the external detector method and the LA–ICP–MS fission track approach with tools for repositioning and calibration of the external detector; and (3) two other tools that are designed for automated point selection and scanning of large crystals, such as the Durango age standard and U-doped glass external detectors. In future versions, Nikon–TRACKFlow aims to step away from the dedicated system for fission track imaging towards a general high-throughput imaging system for Earth Sciences and other material-oriented sciences.

Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) is increasingly used for non-invasive measurement of fluorescently tagged molecules in live cells. In this study, we have developed a freely available software tool MultiFRET, which, together with the use of a motorised microscope stage, allows multiple single cells to be studied in one experiment. MultiFRET is a Java plugin for Micro-Manager software, which provides real-time calculations of ratio-metric signals during acquisition and can simultaneously record from multiple cells in the same experiment. It can also make other custom-determined live calculations that can be easily exported to Excel at the end of the experiment. It is flexible and can work with multiple spectral acquisition channels. We validated this software by comparing the output of MultiFRET to that of a previously established and well-documented method for live ratio-metric FRET experiments and found no significant difference between the data produced with the use of the new MultiFRET and other methods. In this validation, we used several cAMP FRET sensors and cell models: i) isolated adult cardiomyocytes from transgenic mice expressing the cytosolic epac1-camps and targeted pmEpac1 and Epac1-PLN sensors, ii) isolated neonatal mouse cardiomyocytes transfected with the AKAP79-CUTie sensor, and iii) human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CM) transfected with the Epac-SH74 sensor. The MultiFRET plugin is an open source freely available package that can be used in a wide area of live cell imaging when live ratio-metric calculations are required.

In order to ensure accuracy of motorized linear translation stages theoretical and experimental investigations were performed, that allow to establish moving platform vibration level depending of operating modes (different velocities) and used lubricant in the system. Lubricants had different viscosity, which has effect to the system moving smoothness, sound level and vibration level of the stage. Such work gives possibility to done conclusions: with what lubricant or with what viscosity of the lubricant motorized linear translation stage works smoother, with less noise and vib-ration level, and also show best movement characteristics. Tepalai skiriasi savo klampumu. Šis parametras turi įtakos įtaiso judėjimo sklandumui ir virpesių lygiui mazge.

IntroductionProlonged sitting and inadequate sleep are a growing concern in society and are associated with impairments to cardiometabolic health and cognitive performance. However, the combined effect of prolonged sitting and inadequate sleep on measures of health and cognitive performance are unknown. In addition, the circadian disruption caused by shiftwork may further impact workers’ cardiometabolic health and cognitive performance. This protocol paper outlines the methodology for exploring the impact of simultaneous exposure to prolonged sitting, sleep restriction and circadian disruption on cardiometabolic and cognitive performance outcomes. Methods and analysisThis between-subjects study will recruit 208 males and females to complete a 7-day in-laboratory experimental protocol (1 Adaptation Day, 5 Experimental Days and 1 Recovery Day). Participants will be allocated to one of eight conditions that include all possible combinations of the following: dayshift or nightshift, sitting or breaking up sitting and 5 hour or 9 hour sleep opportunity. On arrival to the laboratory, participants will be provided with a 9 hour baseline sleep opportunity (22:00 to 07:00) and complete five simulated work shifts (09:00 to 17:30 in the dayshift condition and 22:00 to 06:30 in the nightshift condition) followed by a 9 hour recovery sleep opportunity (22:00 to 07:00). During the work shifts participants in the sitting condition will remain seated, while participants in the breaking up sitting condition will complete 3-min bouts of light-intensity walking every 30 mins on a motorised treadmill. Sleep opportunities will be 9 hour or 5 hour. Primary outcome measures include continuously measured interstitial blood glucose, heart rate and blood pressure, and a cognitive performance and self-perceived capacity testing battery completed five times per shift. Analyses will be conducted using linear mixed models.Ethics and disseminationThe CQUniversity Human Ethics Committee has approved this study (0000021914). All participants who have already completed the protocol have provided informed consent. Study findings will be disseminated via scientific publications and conference presentations.Trial registration detailsThis study has been registered on Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (12619001516178) and is currently in the pre-results stage.

In the Laboratory of the Experimental Biophotonics at Brno University of Technology, a new generation of the Coherence-Controlled Holographic Microscope (CCHM) is being developed. Because of the automation of certain microscope procedures, a fully motorized three axis computer controlled manipulator of the sample is to be employed. A fast and accurate lateral positioning in a range of several centimeters is required. For the focusing capability, very precise positioning in the optical axes is required as well. Initially, the basics of microscope manipulator design are presented. Then, commercially available solutions are introduced and compared with special focus on its possible implementation in the new generation of CCHM. However, due to the specific design of the new CCHM, available manipulators are not suitable. Therefore, a new optimized manipulator design is introduced in the second part of the thesis. A selection of its appropriate elements, especially actuators, is based on a review. For the new manipulator design, a technical documentation was made and a testing software was developed. A crucial part of the manipulator was assembled and tested.

I studien deltog 15 personer, varav sju stycken barn.
This study examined motor planning in adults (20-27 years) and children nine to ten years old and its associations with motor imagery (MI), the internal representation of an action. This by examining differences in children and adults' ability to plan motor actions in the form of MI and End-state comfort effects (ESC). ESC, a concept linked to MI, involves a prioritization of grip comfort in the end of an action instead of the beginning. To examine MI, response times, the time it took to respond after stimuli were presented, were taken out from the mental rotation task Hand Laterality Judgement Task (HLJ). To examine motor planning participants performed a peg movement task (Semi-Circular Peg task, SPT) that included aspects of MI and ESC. In the SPT, the need for planning is experimentally manipulated as grip formation demands varies across trials. The time from trial onset to wrist movement initation was extracted as a measure of planning. Furthermore motor planning was examined in adults and children and its associations with executive functions (inhibition, shifting, planning and working memory). In the study 15 people participated, of which seven were children. An experimental design was applied in which tests of executive functions, SPT, HLJ and a visual mental rotation task were performed. The results found that children aged nine to ten differed from adults in that the children had longer latency time on SPT, response time on HLJ and a lower response precision on both tests. Another difference was that the adults showed an association between MI and executive functions which was not found for in the children.

Miracle of human life becomes evident at the moment of his birth. However at this moment only the next stage is reached by the process that starts from conjugation between fathers gamete and mother’s egg cell and which ends after the youngster is pubescent. This process is called the development. In the appropriate period of child’s growth his body is characterized by specific morphological features. Parents are the best observers of their children. However in order to observe deviations of infant’s development it is necessary to know what normal development looks like. Early years may become a basis for long and healthy life therefore the early prophylaxis is of great value (Prasauskienė, 2003). Purpose of this paper was to investigate effect of kinezitherapy and other factors on motor development of normally developing children in the first years of life. Investigation methods used in this paper were as follows: 1. Assessment of gross motor skills’ development; 2. Analysis of subjects’ medical histories; 3. Mathematical statistics. The investigation was carried out at the Child’s Development Clinic “Lopšelis” of Kaunas (Kauno Vaiko Raidos Klinika “Lopšelis”) in the department of infants’ home beginning on October of 2004 and until February of 2006 (period – 14 months). Due to various reasons, today’s learners lead a passive life that results in movement deprivation and poor motor development. Motor development contributes to cognitive development, which can also contribute to school readiness. Since the beginning of the twentieth century, researchers have indicated that there is an increase of learners with motor problems, which can develop into learning problems. The primary aim of the study was to determine the influence of a 10 week Judo intervention programme on Grade 1 learners with motor restraints. The formal standardised test, Bruininks-Oseretsky Test for Motor Proficiency (BOTMP) with its eight subscales, was used for this purpose. A total of 140 learners took part in the programme: 70 learners formed part of the control group and 70 learners formed part of the experimental group. All the learners took part in the pre- and post-tests (the BOTMP). The experimental group took part in the Judo intervention programme. The importance of Judo with regard to motor aspects has been highlighted. It promotes self-confidence and self-control, and has a significant influence on learning behaviour and learning of movement. This sport emphasises body awareness and spatial orientation, and develops sensory-motor activities, as well as cognitive and physical movements. Furthermore, Judo consists of a great number of motor movements and, as a result of this diversity, the participant develops on a motor, cognitive, social and emotional level. To determine whether the Judo intervention programme had any impact on the learners, t-tests were applied. These tests were done on independent and nonindependent groups. The data was statistically processed and depicted in table or graph format. The results indicated a significant improvement in five of the eight subscales of the BOTMP. The motor variates that showed improvement were balance, bilateral coordination, reaction speed, visual motor control, and upper limb speed and dexterity. The means were statistically different on the 5% level. Furthermore, the average of two variates differed on a 1% level, namely balance and bilateral coordination. Running speed and agility, as well as strength, did not show significant signs of improvement. From the results, it can be concluded that an affordable and achievable Judo intervention programme has a significant impact on the gross, gross-fine and fine motor development of Grade 1 learners with motor restraints. The study indicated that Judo as a sport indeed has an effect on the motor skills of these learners. It is recommended that such a programme should be marketed to educators and be included in the Life Orientation Programme.

In this paper the features of worm and worm gear, including high speed-reduction and self-locking, was employed to develop a new z-axis motorized stage. The problems encountered nowadays including the descent of stage with the application of loading, and the lack of resolution was improved by using the features of worm and worm gear. We refer to the elevation mechanism with worm and worn gear as the concepts of design for the new stage. The models of the new stage was created using computer-aided design software, and the specification was validated through the pervasive ones in the market. Besides the pervasive specification which are the parallelism, dynamic parallelism and dynamic straightness, the new characterization measurements added for the new stage were displacement and resolution,. The measuring results agree well with the specification. Some errors relating to the displacement can be improved by increasing the rigidity of the frame. The deviation arise from the blacklash of worm and worm gear can be mended by using more precision gear sets.

The objective of this paper is the analysis of the state of the art in pedestrian simulation models and the identification of key issues for further research, with particular focus on the modelling of pedestrians and motorised traffic. A review and a comparative assessment of pedestrian simulation models are carried out, including macroscopic models, earlier meso- and miscosimulation models (mostly in Cellular Automata) and more recent Multi-Agent simulation models. The reviewed models cover a broad range of research topics: pedestrian flow and level of service, crowd dynamics and evacuations, route choice etc. However, pedestrian movement in urban areas and the interactions between pedestrians and vehicles have received notably less attention. A number of challenges to be addressed in future research are outlined: first, the need to and account for the hierarchical behavioural model of road users (strategic / tactical / operational behaviour); second, the need for appropriate description and parameterization of vehicle and pedestrian networks and their crossing points; third, the need to exploit in the simulation models the results of statistical and probabilistic models, which offer valuable insight in the determinants of pedestrian behaviour. In each case, recent studies towards addressing these challenges are outlined.

In an age when escalating fuel prices, global warming and world resource depletion are of great concern, sustainable transport practices promise to define a new way of mobility into the future. With its comparatively minimal negative environmental impacts, non reliance on fuels and positive health effects, the simple bicycle offers significant benefits to humankind. These benefits are evident worldwide where bicycles are successfully endorsed through improved infrastructure, supporting policies, public education and management. In Australia, the national, state and local governments are introducing measures to improve and support green transport. This is necessary as current bicycle infrastructure is not always sufficient and the longstanding conflict with motorized transport still exists. The aim for the future is to implement sustainable hard and soft bicycle infrastructure globally; the challenges of such a task can be illustrated by the city of Brisbane, Australia.

Effective management of flood events depends on a thorough understanding of regional geospatial characteristics, yet data visualization is rarely effectively integrated into the planning tools used by decision makers. This chapter considers publicly available data sets and data visualization techniques that can be adapted for use by all community planners and decision makers. A long short-term memory (LSTM) network is created to develop a univariate time series value for river stage prediction that improves the temporal resolution and accuracy of forecasts. This prediction is then tied to a corresponding spatial flood inundation profile in a geographic information system (GIS) setting. The intersection of flood profile and affected road segments can be easily visualized and extracted. Traffic decision makers can use these findings to proactively deploy re-routing measures and warnings to motorists to decrease travel-miles and risks such as loss of property or life.

Abstract Evaluation of Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEMs) was initiated for the purpose of purchasing a SEM that would improve the productivity of scanning electron microscopy during the cycle of analysis and deprocessing of semiconductor devices in a failure analysis lab. In addition to the need for high image resolution at low electron acceleration voltages, an accurate motorized stage is a major evaluation factor. It is necessary for the analyst to drive directly to a known location such as a memory cell with a high assurance that the site of interest was found. There are two main areas of focus in this paper. First, our SEM evaluation methodology will be presented along with the results of our evaluation. Second, the technology associated with motorized stages will be discussed in light of our requirements for a motorized, highly accurate stage. As a byproduct of this evaluation, this paper is presented so as to push the SEM industry to offer a SEM with an accurate stage for subhalfmicron products at reasonable cost.

In this paper, we present a planning approach for automated high-speed transport of cells over large distances inside an Optical Tweezers (OT) assisted microfluidic chamber. The transport is performed in three steps that combine the optical trap and motorized stage motions. This includes optical trapping and transporting the cells to form a desired cell-ensemble that is suitable for a long distance transport, automatically moving the motorized stage to transport the cell-ensemble over a large distance while avoiding static obstacles, and distributing the cells from the ensemble to the desired locations using OT. The speeds of optical traps and the motorized stage are determined by modeling the motion of the particle under the influence of optical trap. The desired cell-ensemble is automatically determined based on the geometry of the microfluidic chamber. We have developed a greedy heuristic method for optimal selection of the initial and the final location of the cell-ensemble to minimize the overall transport time while satisfying the constraints of the OT workspace. We have discussed the computational complexity of the developed method and compared it with exhaustive combinatorial search. The approach is particularly useful in applications where cells are needed to be rapidly distributed inside a microfluidic chamber. We show the capability of our planning approach using physical experiments.

Inertial focusing and ordering in microchannel flows refers to the tendency of finite-sized particles to migrate across streamlines and to form linear, equally spaced trains in the direction of flow. This study utilizes a motorized microscope stage moving along the length of a low aspect ratio microchannel at up to 10 cm/s and provides a Lagrangian view of particles to obtain more complete time dependent trajectory and rotation histories from the channel inlet to outlet. We observe monodisperse particle dynamics, rotations, and interactions over time scales significantly longer (exceeding a 30-fold increase) than static reference frames. The results present new insight into particle interactions which show quasi-steady state equilibrium spacing which oscillates at a constant frequency at a fixed flow rate, which is different from the damped oscillatory interactions suggested in the literature. The average spacing shows little dependence on flow rate, but the oscillation frequency is dependent both on flow rate and particle size.
