The operation phase is not only the longest stage of the life cycle of a project, but also the moment when people accumulates most information of the project. Because of the secular and complexity of property management during the operation period, and as there is large amount of information loss during the several periods before operation, it is very difficult to manage equipments all through the way. Based on the BIM technology, authors build a database of the equipment operation parameters to solve this problem. This paper realizes the real-time monitoring of the update of equipment information, equipment maintenance and fault handling during the operation stage. The research puts forward a new way to improve the standards of property management which will lead to a better economic benefits.

In the process of equipment fault evolution, equipment's attrition probability is different, namely selective attrition may be produced. This paper describes one method based on selective attrition, which achieves the aim of forecasting its optimal maintenance time by analyzing and handling the data of monitoring equipment. There are mainly two steps: first, get each part’s probability value of selective attrition under the current condition in use of association rule algorithm, then take the obtained probability value as the input, and get the optimal maintenance time through neural networks modeling. This method employs the real-time and dynamic decision-making method and adjusts the optimal maintenance time in real time according to the information in the equipment’s operating process, making it more conform to the actual condition. The feasibility of this method is showed by a simulation example.

The Airport ground handling services (AGHS) equipment supplier provider selection requires a safety guarantee in terms of the daily operations AGHS provider. AGHS providers seek to avoid aircraft damage and airline delays and ensure the provision of reliable and high-quality services. The primary objective of this paper was to develop purchasing decision model of the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), AHP-fuzzy linear programming (FLP), and AHP-Taguchi loss function (TLF) multi-choice goal programming (MCGP) purchase decision models to help the AGHS purchasing managers in selecting the best AGHS equipment supplier provider. The constructed models were assessed, and results obtained for the AHP-FLP and AHP-TLF-MCGP models were compared. We conducted a real-world example of supplier selection by an AGHS company by using the proposed models. The proposed model provides useful information and has practical value for AGHS providers.

The unique nature of biotechnology products requires specific additional education and training for pharmacists. To understand how these products were developed and their mechanism of action, expanded knowledge in molecular biology, immunology, genetics, and the techniques of biotechnology is essential. Since these products are often used for disease states that were not previously treated with drug therapy, a basic understanding of the pathophysiology of the disease being treated is essential. Many biotechnology products are administered parenterally, and pharmacists must be familiar with these methods of administration to provide proper equipment, guidance, and counseling for patients. Stability and compatibility issues frequently arise with biotechnology products as many require refrigeration, special diluents, and are susceptible to compatibility problems. Because these products are often used in chronic disease settings and because patients may be expected to self-administer using a parenteral route, drug therapy monitoring and patient education needs are often substantial. The patient education role, in particular, may be the most important responsibility for pharmacists providing care to patients undergoing treatment with biotechnology products.

The concept and procedures of a data-handling system, which can be described as a “Dynamic Integrated Monitoring System” are presented together with examples which can be produced by such a system. The monitoring is based on on-line measurements, laboratory analyses on different types of samples, information on raw materials and products as well as the production equipment/facilities used. The data-aquisition (online and off-line) is controlled by a management system, which secures the coordination, fastest updating and follow up of the key element in the system – the data. In order to turn the data into useful information, the former is continuously processed, validated and stored, while simultaneously quantitative information and operation indexes are calculated. Through application procedures, this basic information is now used for several different tasks such as alarms, statistics, emission control and prognosis, waste minimization and long term general environmental management.

Intelligent energy facilities, e.g., smart grids and microgrids are the evolution of traditional energy grids through digital transformation. These modern paradigms are expected to foster the utilization of renewable energies, sustainable development, and resilience of the power grid. A barrier found when deploying experimental smart grids and microgrids consists of handling the heterogeneity of the required hardware and software components as well as the available commercial equipment. Despite the fact that there is various architecture proposed in previous literature, it commonly lacks experimental validation, specification of involved equipment concerning industrial/proprietary or open-source nature, and concretization of communication protocols. To overcome such drawbacks, this paper proposes an innovative multi-layered architecture to deploy heterogeneous automation and monitoring systems for microgrids. The architecture is structured into six functional layers to organize the hardware and software equipment in an integrated manner. The open protocol Modbus TCP is chosen to harmonize communications, enabling the interconnection of equipment from industrial and energy scopes, indeed of open-source nature. An experimental photovoltaic-based smart microgrid is reported as the application case to demonstrate the suitability and validity of the proposal.

There is a need to develop methods that would allow plant health and survival potential to be quantified in real time, particularly in the different phases of bare-root handling. Such methods would allow the impact of different stresses experienced throughout storage and transport on establishment success and growth of the bare-root plant to be quantitatively defined. This review concentrates on the impact of pre-lifting, pre-transplanting and post-transplanting considerations and identifies tools that can be applied for monitoring plant quality. Root and shoot culturing, lifting and transplanting timing, water stress and storage/transport handling are all significant factors in the post-transplant performance of bare-root material. Different postharvest tools and indicators are also examined for their efficacy and contribution to plant quality. Chlorophyll fluorescence and root respiration are useful as indicators of water stress and dormancy; however, more practical equipment should be developed in both instances for greater adoption of these practices. Hydrophilic gel slurries can be used either during storage and immediately prior to transplant as an additional prevention of desiccation but will not restore vigor to damaged plants. Cold storage at optimum temperature should be adapted to maintain the target relative humidity; otherwise the storage period should not exceed 4 weeks for unprotected bare-root plants. Many improvements have been made in the ability to predict the effects of stresses experienced by bare-root material. However, more equipment, metrics, species and site specific research would enhance monitoring of bare-root quality.

The aim of the paper was to confirm importance of loading and unloading processes of palletized cargo as an initial and final link of multimodal transport by developing methods’ proposal for monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of cargo operations as well as development of measures and comparison estimators. The analysis of the manipulation operations’ duration throughout the transport process is based on the percentile rates of manipulation and carriage in total transport process duration and the percentage of manipulating time in the duration of the carriage. These indicators and examined loading and unloading times, are the basis for the development of scheduling algorithms for optimizing transport processes on the scale of the whole transport chain. This data is also a helpful input to support strategic decisions on the allocation of financial resources for the development of infrastructure and terminal equipment, warehouses and other facilities.

Telecommunication and internet providers manage IT infrastructures consisting of tens of thousands of various devices. Monitoring and managing such infrastructure is quite a complicated task demanding pro-fessional and coherent job from technical support teams. One of key tasks for monitoring service is prompt detection of equipment faults and quick engagement of corresponding experts to restore normal operation of equipment and systems. Corresponding tools are required to automate this process, which is quite la-bour-consuming. Orion CRL is offered as a tool with such functionality. It is integrated with the systems for monitoring, incident management, network management, inventories, CRM, Service Desk, IVR, contact center. It accelerates addressing critical faults giving additional opportunities for basic diagnostics. False diagnostics or mistaken incident registration leads to time losses, delays elimination of problems and dis-tracts specialist from handling other urgent issues and tasks. To increase diagnostics efficiency there has been developed an original algorithm of analysis and search for root cause of fault; so called Root Cause Analysis (RCA). Algorithm is based on network topology analysis and faults which are detected by moni-toring system such as Host Down, Host Up, Link Down. Algorithm provides for basic diagnostics, typical fault check operations on restore procedures which are typical for organization's IT infrastructure. Due to integration with monitoring system the RCA discovers root cause and symptomatic events. At the same time Orion CRL disguises faults that are symptomatic and highlights the root cause in monitoring system. The developed Orion CRL tool set increases efficiency of monitoring service. Automation of typical basic diag-nostics operations and fault detection, in its turn, accelerates restoration of normal operation of equipment and saves operators’ work time.

The existing methodology for Front Opening Unified Pod (FOUP) cleaning, storage, and transfer is inherently flawed in three areas: a) equipment layout, b) intra-process wait time, and c) human handling. In each area, improved solutions are suggested and a new approach is developed and named In-line FOUP Cleaner (IFC). IFC is a new, singular approach accomplished via total integration of multiple equipment types including sorter, FOUP cleaner, stocker, particle counter, and the FDC monitoring system. Utilizing the IFC approach, significant improvements have been documented with respect to all three areas of concern. Overall cost savings, as well as a side benefit of improved fume removal, are carefully observed. It appears to be an interesting approach to solving the problems associated with FOUP cleaning, storage, and transfer for the next generation semiconductor fab.

In the transition to a circular focus on electric and electronic products, manufacturers play a key role as the originators of both the products and the information about the products. While the waste electric and electronic equipment (WEEE) directive’s contemporary focus is on handling the product as waste after its end of life, the circular economy focuses on retaining the product’s value with a restorative system. The polluter-pays principle requires producers of pollution to bear the costs of handling the pollution, leading to the extended producer responsibility (EPR) principle. This requires manufacturers to change their focus from their current passive role of out-sourcing end-of-life treatment to taking explicit responsibility for product management over an extended period of time. This paper investigates how a manufacturer can assume its responsibility to achieve circularity for its products. Based on our findings, three fundamental circularity principles, the circular electric and electronic equipment (CEEE) principles, for manufactures of electronic and electrical equipment are defined: (1) Serialize product identifiers, (2) data controlled by their authoritative source at the edge, and (3) independent actors’ access to edge data via a distributer ledger are the foundation of the Edge and Distributed Ledger (Edge&DL) model. We demonstrate the model through a case study of how to achieve circularity for lighting equipment. The CEEE principles and the demonstrated model contribute to building new circularity systems for electronic and electric products that let manufacturers undertake their extended product responsibility.

The term intelligent agriculture, or smart farming, typically involves the incorporation of computer science and information technologies into the traditional notion of farming. The latter utilizes plain machinery and equipment used for many decades and the only significant improvement made over the years has been the introduction of automation in the process. Still, at the beginning of the new century, there are ways and room for further vast improvements. More specifically, the low cost of rather advanced sensors and small-scale devices, now even connected to the Internet of Things (IoT), allowed them to be introduced in the process and used within agricultural production systems. New and emerging technologies and methodologies, like the utilization of cheap network storage, are expected to advance this development. In this sense, the main goals of this paper may be summarized as follows: (a) To identify, group, and acknowledge the current state-of-the-art research knowledge about intelligent agriculture approaches, (b) to categorize them according to meaningful data sources categories, and (c) to describe current efficient data processing and utilization aspects from the perspective of the main trends in the field.

ABSTRACT Risk for complications and even death is inherent to anesthesia. However, the use of guidelines, checklists, and training can decrease the risk of anesthesia-related adverse events. These tools should be used not only during the time the patient is unconscious but also before and after this phase. The framework for safe anesthesia delivered as a continuum of care from home to hospital and back to home is presented in these guidelines. The critical importance of client communication and staff training have been highlighted. The role of perioperative analgesia, anxiolytics, and proper handling of fractious/fearful/aggressive patients as components of anesthetic safety are stressed. Anesthesia equipment selection and care is detailed. The objective of these guidelines is to make the anesthesia period as safe as possible for dogs and cats while providing a practical framework for delivering anesthesia care. To meet this goal, tables, algorithms, figures, and “tip” boxes with critical information are included in the manuscript and an in-depth online resource center is available at aaha.org/anesthesia.

Air quality pollution problem is still one of the crucial points for citizens in Europe for already receiving increasing attention, particularly because of the major European cities 10 and more years. Although the EU's long-term goal is to achieve levels of air quality that do not impact and risks to human health and the environment, many of member states still didn`t reach stated goals. Additionally, to gaseous pollutants, recently specific type of pollution, - odour, seems to become more important. Usually in order to determine pollution levels, national, municipal and private monitoring equipment is used. For this research municipal monitoring site in Riga (Latvia), at Milgravja Street 10, controlling gaseous pollutants (SO2, O3, BTX, PM10) and airborne particulate matter, and private monitoring results from Riga, Milgravja Street 16, where odour pollution was obtained, are analysed. Distance between both stations are just 500 m. Measurements at municipal monitoring site is obtained by DOAS and gravimetric sampling, while at Milgravja 16 by photoionization method or so-called “electronic nose”. Monitoring results in municipal station show that in 2017 the average benzene concentration was 4,87 ug/m3, toluene – 8,89 ug /m3 and xylene – 5,07 ug/m3, while the odour pollution level does not exceed 5 odour units. In general estimation of pollution averaged annually do not show and explain variability of pollution levels. It`s well known that high BTX and odour pollution episodes occur in shorter periods, thus short term limit values would be useful in order to characterize short term effects on human health and well-being.

With the continuous development of society, the construction of smart grids has gradually begun to be valued. Smart grids can liberate more labor and enable managers to manage the grid quickly and easily. The power communication network occupies an irreplaceable position in the smart grid. However, it is inevitable that various equipment failures will occur. Therefore, it is necessary to advance the time of fault handling through fault management, then reduce the fault harmfulness. In this paper, with the support of the Internet of Things technology, a monitoring system of the power communication room is constructed based on the configuration status and application environment of equipment, and an intelligent analysis method for fault location of the power communication room based on active detection is proposed. As a result, the reliable and stable operation of the power communication room can be guaranteed by using passive management and active management.

However, such progress is incipient because we still have many challenges, and the performance of applications depends on the appropriate choice of the method. This article presents a survey of existing ML and DL techniques for handling PdM in the railway industry. Repeaters in this case an important role in the communication process between APD dispatcher JTY with Area - Area and officers in the field because of the presence of the communication range of the repeater spacing becomes wider . In operation repeaters can be susceptible to interference that can result in radio communications in the areas covered by the repeater to be disrupted so that the communication between the dispatcher APD JTY with Area - Area and field workers to be blocked. Handling repeater for this disorder is not maximized due to the lack of real time monitoring of the state of the repeater , so that when the repeater impaired in the device or on the supply , the clerk did not know in person and just waiting for a report from the repeater keeper at any time at the shelter is not a repeater . There needs to be a device that can monitor the state of the repeater , which if detected interference at the source , supply and radio , PPE JTY officer may direct monitoring , so that it can assist in the handling and analysis of causes of hearing disorders without having to come to the site . GPRS Modem Utilization Intek J65i - X allows retrieval status of the repeater equipment where it can not be done at this time . With facilities tapped digital inputs and digital outputs on the modem , any condition of equipments such as radio signal repeater RX , TX radio signal , battery , charger and 220V supply state of the supply voltage can be detected . Context. Handling animals is essential for many applications in wildlife management. However, currently there are limited techniques to safely handle and move large mobile pinnipeds, particularly when they cannot be physically restrained first. Such animals can be the cause of many land-based wildlife–human conflicts. The New Zealand (NZ) sea lion (Phocarctos hookeri) is the world’s rarest and second largest otariid, and is in severe decline. Although most NZ sea lions live on uninhabited NZ subantarctic islands, a small population is recolonising the coastline of Otago, NZ and this close proximity with humans can cause conflict. Aims. The aim of this research was to assess a method of remote chemical anaesthesia for its ability to safely and practically immobilise large pinnipeds to allow attachment of satellite tracking equipment and to handle and potentially move animals if in situations of conflict. Methods. The chemical anaesthetic Zoletil® was remotely applied to immobilise adult male NZ sea lions at Enderby Island, Auckland Islands, to allow handling and the application of satellite tracking equipment. Key results. Six adult males weighing up to 330 kg were successfully anaesthetised, weighed and measured. Two of these had satellite location tags attached, which showed two very different post-breeding movement patterns by adult males and indicated minimum overlap with local fisheries activities. Conclusions. This remote anaesthesia technique was successful for adult male NZ sea lions and could be used for the immobilisation and management of other large mobile pinnipeds. Implications. The ability to anaesthetise and safely handle large adult male pinnipeds will provide better management in areas where animals come in close contact with human populations with possible lethal interactions or where attachment of monitoring equipment is required to investigate population parameters or possible lethal interactions.

Abstract As a laboratory certified to ISO 9001:2000 and accredited to ISO 17025, rtech laboratories has incorporated an overall system for technical and quality management, which results in benefits observed in daily laboratory practices. Technical requirements were updated to include the addition of formal personnel training plans and detailed records, method development and validation procedures, measurement of method uncertainty, and a defined equipment calibration and maintenance program. In addition, a stronger definition of the sample preparation process was documented to maintain consistency in sampling, and a more rigorous quality control monitoring program was implemented for chemistry and microbiology. Management quality improvements focused on document control to maintain consistent analytical processes, improved monitoring of supplier performance, a contract review process for documenting customer requirements, and a system for handling customer comments and complaints, with continuous improvement through corrective and preventive action procedures and audits. Quarterly management review of corrective actions, nonconforming testing, and proficiency testing aid in determining long-term trending. The practical benefits of these technical and management quality improvements are seen on a daily basis in the laboratory. Faster identification and resolution of issues regarding methods, personnel or equipment, improved customer satisfaction, meeting quality requirements of specialized customers, and overall increased laboratory business are all the result of implementing an effective quality system.

Responding to the increasing global need for environmental protection, a green port balances economic vibrancy with environmental protection. However, because exhaust emissions (e.g., CO2 or sulfide) are difficult to monitor around ports, data on such emissions are often incomplete, which hinders research on this topic. The present study aimed to fill this gap in this topic. To remedy this problem, this study formulated a new data envelopment analysis (DEA) method for collecting CO2 emissions data at their source. This method was applied to collect real-world operating data from a large container-handling company in Taiwan. Specifically, we provide a real example using a novel green energy index to account for undesirable outputs. Our main objective was to formulate two methods that combine: (1) data envelopment analysis based on a modified slack-based measure, and (2) a multi-choice goal programming approach. The contributions of this paper included the finding that rubber-tired gantry cranes are the greenest and should be used in ports. Finally, our findings aid port managers in selecting port equipment that provides the best balance between environmental protection and profitability.

It has been established that naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) may accumulate at various locations along the oil and gas production process. Components such as wellheads, separation vessels, pumps, and other processing equipment can become contaminated with NORM, and NORM can accumulate in the form of sludge, scale, scrapings, and other waste media. This can create a potential radiation hazard to workers, the general public, and the environment if certain controls are not established. Saudi Aramco has developed NORM management guidelines, and is implementing a comprehensive strategy to address all aspects of NORM management that aim to enhance NORM monitoring; control of NORM-contaminated equipment; control of NORM waste handling and disposal; and protection, awareness, and training of workers. The benefits of shared knowledge, best practice, and experience across the oil and gas industry are seen as key to the establishment of common guidance. This paper outlines Saudi Aramco's experience in the development of a NORM management strategy, and its goals of establishing common guidance throughout the oil and gas industry.

Despite all the achievements in improving container terminal performance in terms of equipment and container stacking systems (CSS), terminal operators are still facing several challenges. One of these challenges is the lack of information about further transportation modes of the container, which leads to extra movements of the container inside the stacking area. Hence, we aimed to examine factors that affect container handling processes and to evaluate a container terminal’s overall equipment effectiveness. This study used data from a container terminal at the Port of Antwerp, Belgium. An agent-based model was developed based on a block-stacking strategy to investigate two scenarios: (1) having information about further transportation modes and (2) a base scenario. The Overall Equipment Effectiveness Index (OEE) was also adopted to evaluate the container terminal’s effectiveness in both scenarios. Results showed that having information on further transportation mode significantly increased the container outflow, and the OEE index improved compared to the base scenario’s results. Therefore, we recommend an integrated data-sharing system where all the stakeholders can share their information with no fear of losing their market share.

Considering the advances in building monitoring and control through networks of interconnected devices, effective handling of the associated rich data streams is becoming an important challenge. In many situations, the application of conventional system identification or approximate grey-box models, partly theoretic and partly data driven, is either unfeasible or unsuitable. The paper discusses and illustrates an application of black-box modelling achieved using data mining techniques with the purpose of smart building ventilation subsystem control. We present the implementation and evaluation of a data mining methodology on collected data from over one year of operation. The case study is carried out on four air handling units of a modern campus building for preliminary decision support for facility managers. The data processing and learning framework is based on two steps: raw data streams are compressed using the Symbolic Aggregate Approximation method, followed by the resulting segments being input into a Support Vector Machine algorithm. The results are useful for deriving the behaviour of each equipment in various modi of operation and can be built upon for fault detection or energy efficiency applications. Challenges related to online operation within a commercial Building Management System are also discussed as the approach shows promise for deployment.

AbstractNowadays, cell-based assays are an elementary tool for diagnostics, animal-free substance testing and basic research. Depending on the application, the spectrum ranges from simple static cell cultures in microtiter plates to dynamic co-cultures in complex micro physiological systems (organ-on-a-chip). Depending on the complexity of the assay, numerous working steps have to be performed and the data from different analysis systems have to be processed, combined and documented. A universal platform has been developed for the automated handling of cell-based assays, which combines a laboratory information management system (LIMS) with a laboratory execution system (LES), a universal laboratory automation platform and established laboratory equipment. The LIMS handles the administration of all laboratory-relevant information, the planning, control and monitoring of laboratory processes, as well as the direct and qualified processing of raw data. Using a kidney-on-achip system as an example, the realization of complex cellbased assays for the animal-free characterization of the toxicity of different antibiotics will be demonstrated. In the kidney-on-a-chip system the artificial proximal tubular barrier was formed by seeding human immortalized proximal tubule cells (RPTEC) and human blood outgrowth endothelial cells (BOEC) on ThinCert™ membranes. Transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) was measured daily to evaluate the barrier function of the cellular layers. Fluid handling and TEER measurements were performed using a laboratory automation platform that communicates directly with the LIMS. In recent years, the continuous increase of greenhouse gas emissions has led many companies to investigate the activities that have the greatest impact on the environment. Recent studies estimate that around 10% of worldwide CO2 emissions derive from logistical supply chains. The considerable amount of energy required for heating, cooling, and lighting as well as material handling equipment (MHE) in warehouses represents about 20% of the overall logistical costs. The reduction of warehouses’ energy consumption would thus lead to a significant benefit from an environmental point of view. In this context, sustainable strategies allowing the minimization of the cost of energy consumption due to MHE represent a new challenge in warehouse management. Consistent with this purpose, a two-step optimization model based on integer programming is developed in this paper to automatically identify an optimal schedule of the material handling activities of electric mobile MHEs (MMHEs) (i.e., forklifts) in labor-intensive warehouses from profit and sustainability perspectives. The resulting scheduling aims at minimizing the total cost, which is the sum of the penalty cost related to the makespan of the material handling activities and the total electricity cost of charging batteries. The approach ensures that jobs are executed in accordance with priority queuing and that the completion time of battery recharging is minimized. Realistic numerical experiments are conducted to evaluate the effects of integrating the scheduling of electric loads into the scheduling of material handling operations. The obtained results show the effectiveness of the model in identifying the optimal battery-charging schedule for a fleet of electric MMHEs from economic and environmental perspectives simultaneously.

Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM) is a nontraditional finishing process that deburrs and polishes by forcing an abrasive-laden viscoelastic polymer across the workpiece surface. Current applications include improvement in air and fluid flow for cylinder heads, intake manifold runners and injector nozzles. Present manufacturing methods include a series of flow test and AFM operations which require significant material handling and operator adjustment. An effective on-line monitoring and adaptive control system for AFM is needed. This paper reports on the development of an acoustic emission (AE) based monitoring strategy and the AE characteristics of abrasive flow machining. Initial results showed AE to be a viable sensing method for determining the performance characteristics of AFM for simple extrusion passage geometries in a selected part design. The root mean square (RMS) voltage of the AE signal was mainly determined by the metal removal and related AFM process parameters. Frequency decomposition of the AE signals revealed distinct frequency bands which have been related to the different material removal modes in AFM and to the workpiece material. Research was also performed on the application of AFM to finish orifices of varying sizes. Extremely high correlations were found between the AE signal and both the orifice diameter and the volumetric flow rate. Work is continuing with the equipment manufacturer and key industrial users to apply the monitoring strategy as part of a prototype Flow Control AFM.

Heightened focus on wellbore integrity in the high-profile offshore arena has signaled the need for integrated solutions that deliver greater operational efficiency, safety, reliability and cost savings. Innovative systems that can interface with the existing rig package and facilitate mechanised processes are critical to operator needs to maximise safety and efficiency. A rig integration operation to run tubulars and make up connections for a multi-well project in the UK sector of the North Sea reduced overall operational costs without compromising performance. This operation combined remote-controlled mechanised power tongs (maximum 100,000 ft/lb) with a software package that recorded, analysed and evaluated critical torque-turn data in a real-time report, which could be viewed from multiple remote locations. This hands-off system ensured the integrity of the connections, eliminating the possibility of tubing damage and reducing tripping. The technology performed risky activities in a mechanised fashion, increased efficiency, reduced non-productive time and kept workers safer. This approach is particularly suited to the offshore sector, which is defined by high costs and risks, specifically the use of high-torque strings where casing-running operations present potential hazards. The North Sea’s stringent safety standards dictate the need for a totally integrated methodology that provides a control system, and handling and makeup tools that can easily interface with existing rig equipment. This extended abstract will review the evolution of connection integrity and remote monitoring to enhance safety and well integrity in offshore environments. It will also discuss the latest technologies and software in connection make up and their impact on improving operational efficiency.

This paper uses data from a major logistics service provider in Gothenburg (Sweden) to (i) identify the different activities in a typical urban distribution tour, (ii) quantify the time required by drivers to perform each of these activities, and (iii) identify potential initiatives to improve time efficiency. To do so, the authors collected GPS data, conducted a time-study of the activities performed by the drivers for a week, conducted a focus group with the drivers, and a set of interviews with managers. The results show that driving represents only 30% of the time, another 15% is spent on breaks, and the remaining 55% is used to perform activities related to customer service, freight handling, and planning. The latter are subdivided into multiple activities, each taking a small amount of time. A focus group with the drivers and some interviews revealed several initiatives to improve time efficiency. Most initiatives can bring small gains, but when aggregating all potential time savings there is a big potential to improve overall time efficiency. Initiatives with highest potential and low cost are: providing better pre-advice on upcoming customers, improving route planning, having hand-free cell phone use, and enhancing handling equipment.

The port of Shanghai, as the world’s largest container port, has been experiencing rapid development in recent years, with increasing cargo throughput capacity. The combustion of diesel fuels used by internal and external port-related container trucks and in-port machineries can release various pollutants, causing air pollution. The terminals are close to the residential area, and the emissions are concentrated, which is worth paying attention to. This study aims to synthetically assess the port-related emissions and their environmental impacts. We firstly constructed an emission inventory of air pollutants in the port of Shanghai and then used the WRF-CMAQ model to estimate the influence of port-related source emissions on air quality. The results show that the annual emissions of SO2, NOX, CO, VOCS, PM, PM10, PM2.5, CO2, BC and OC caused by cargo-handling equipment were 21.88 t, 1811.22 t, 1741.72 t, 222.76 t, 61.52 t, 61.42 t, 58.41 t, 141,805.40 t, 26.80 t and 10.07 t in 2015. The emissions of NOX, CO, VOCS, PM10 and PM2.5 caused by external port-related container trucks were 18,002.92 t, 5308.0 t, 1134.57 t, 711.12 t and 640.58 t. The exhaust of external port-related container trucks was much larger than that of cargo-handling equipment, so the impact on air quality was also higher than that of the machinery. The peak annual average concentrations of PM2.5 and NOX contributed by the port-related sources were 1.75 μg/m3 and 49.21 μg/m3, respectively, which accounted for 3.08% and 36.7%, respectively, of the simulated ambient concentrations by all the anthropogenic emissions in Shanghai. Our results imply that the emission control policy to reduce the combined port-related emissions, especially for the cargo-delivery transportation phase from port to city, is key for large coastal port cities such as Shanghai.

Introduction:Knowledge and proper use of hospital equipment are essential for preventing adverse events associated with their use. The risks controls for medical devices and equipment are of major importance in ensuring patient safety and the quality of care delivered by healthcare professionals. Monitoring equipment (ME), infusion pumps (IP), and mechanical ventilators (MV) are frequently used in intensive care units, but they are subject to technical, human, and process failures that may pose harm to and even cause the death of patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risks related to the use of ME, IP, and MV in the adult intensive care unit (AICU) of a public hospital in Brazil, and to investigate the causes of technical complaints and the adverse events associated with them. We hope the outcomes may serve as a basis for the facility to create mechanisms to diminish the risk and increase the safety and quality of care delivered to critical patientsMethods:A 12-month prospective, observational descriptive study was conducted using an active and passive search of processes related to: hospital medical equipment use; available human and material resources; training programs and continuing professional education; equipment disinfection, sterilization, and assembly processes; and the hospital risk management measures regarding the reports and actions for technical, human, and process failures and the adverse events and incidents related to them. All the data collected were checked against current Brazilian legislation and the equipment technical manuals. The root cause of every failure and adverse event was investigated. Results:The active search identified seventy-five reports on technical complaints in the study period: sixty-five were related to IP, six to ME, and four to MV. The reasons for the complaints included: deficiencies in the quantity, qualification, training, and capacity of professionals handling the devices; inadequate disinfection of MV accessories; absence of or difficulty in accessing the equipment technical manuals; and a lack of preventive and corrective maintenance programs. One single adverse event caused by an IP medication error was attributed to a programing error. Conclusions:Failures and deficiencies in the knowledge and management of hospital equipment can potentially increase risks to patients and healthcare professionals. Increasing compliance with Brazil's current legislation related to the technical and operational norms of hospital equipment might create safer practices and improve care quality for critical patients.

Structured Questionnaires were used to obtained information from the respondents. Descriptive statistics comprising frequency distribution tables and percentages, Mean and Ranking were used for Data Analysis. The result of the study showed that majority of the respondents (90%) were male while female formed the minority in pesticide usage with only (10%). The study also showed that all the respondents (100%) were married and engaged in agricultural activities. The study further revealed that all the respondents never had any formal training on the use of pesticide from either governmental or non -governmental organizations. The research study also found out that all (100%) of the respondents were not aware of pesticide effects on man and environment. On the economic and environmental factors affecting pesticide handling and usage, it was found out that, the effect of pesticide on man and the environment is in the form of Nausea, Dizziness, Diarrhea, Respiratory Difficulty, Skin Irritation, Rashes, and Fever, Peeling of the Skin, Vomiting, and Headache. These were discovered to be the serious effects of pesticides on man. However, it was found out that the effects of pesticides on the environment were in the form of pollution, annihilation of the micro fauna and flora and reduction in land viability on the occasion of repeated usage over time, pollution of water bodies, pollution of the atmosphere, depletion of plat population etc. It is concluded that respondents were posed with serious challenges on pesticide usage and handling. It is therefore recommended that appropriate authorities should enforce the use of protective clothing, appropriate equipment and correct handling practices when using pesticides. Existing pesticide regulations and monitoring policies should be enforced. Government should also intensify efforts at registering and controlling distribution of pesticides and banning hazardous ones. It should also enforce the making of less toxic pesticides available to farmers.

An ambulance is designed through the modification of an existing standard vehicle body. By converting, renovating and equipping a standard vehicle body with a patient stretcher, paramedic seats, nearside seats, and related medical equipment, the vehicle becomes an ambulance. Therefore, the requirements and layout of the ambulance interior are constrained by the space available and dimensions of the adopted vehicle. Ambulance occupant protection, safety and ergonomic aspects are usually compromised. High quality and consistent emergency care demand continuous quality improvement and is directly dependent on the effective monitoring, integration, and evaluation of all components of the patients care. Currently, there is no standard or guideline regarding patient compartment layout to help ambulance manufacturers to improve this confine working space. This study aims to assess and evaluate ambulance patient compartment and its effect on the paramedics in performing their tasks. Since the paramedics have to respond to emergencies, their comfort, safety and ease of handling the various equipment in the ambulance has to be considered. A combination of techniques was applied to collect comprehensive data, including interviews, observations and questionnaires which outcomes are used as a basis of suggestions for the improvement in ambulance layout design. By analyzing the tasks performed, a proper layout which considers the ergonomic aspects will ensure that the first response is efficient and reliable.

This work considers the application of a mathematical model using mixed-integer linear programming for the vehicle routing problem. The model aims at establishing the distribution routes departing from a distribution center to each customer in order to reduce the transport cost associated with these routes. The study considers the use of a fleet of different capacities in the distribution network, which presents the special characteristic of a star network and which must meet different efficiency criteria, such as the fulfillment of each customer’s demand, the vehicle carrying capacity, work schedule, and sustainable use of resources. The intention is to find the amount of equipment suitable to satisfy the demand, thus improving the level of customer service, optimizing the use of both human and economic resources in the distribution area, and leveraging maximum vehicle capacity usage. The MILP mixed-integer linear programming mathematical model of the case study is presented, as well as the corresponding numerical study.

The Australian Patient Safety Foundation was formed in 1987; it was decided to set up and co-ordinate the Australian Incident Monitoring Study as a function of this Foundation; 90 hospitals and practices joined the study. Participating anaesthetists were invited to report, on an anonymous and voluntary basis, any unintended incident which reduced, or could have reduced, the safety margin for a patient. Any incident could be reported, not only those which were deemed “preventable” or were thought to involve human error. The Mark I AIMS form was developed which incorporated features and concepts from several other studies. All the incidents in this symposium were reported using this form, which contains general instructions to the reporter, key words and space for a narrative of the incident, structured sections for what happened (with subsections for circuitry incidents, circuitry involved, equipment involved, pharmacological incidents and airway incidents), why it happened (with subsections for factors contributing to the incident, factors minimising the incident and suggested corrective strategies), the type of anaesthesia and procedure, monitors in use, when and where the incident happened, the experience of the personnel involved, patient age and a classification of patient outcome. Enrolment, reporting and data-handling procedures are described. Data on patient outcome are presented; this is correlated with the stages at which the incident occurred and with the ASA status of the patients. The locations at which the incidents occurred and the types of procedures, the sets of incidents analysed in detail and a breakdown of the incidents due to drugs are also presented. The pattern and relative frequencies of the various categories of incidents are similar to those in “closed-claims” studies, suggesting that AIMS should provide information of relevance to those wishing to develop strategies to reduce the incidence and/or impact of incidents and accidents.
