Material Jetting (MJT) 3D printing (3DP) is a specific technology that deposits photocurable droplets of material and colored inks to fabricate objects layer-by-layer. The high resolution and full color capability render MJT 3DP an ideal technology for 3DP in medicine as evidenced by the 3DP literature. The technology has been adopted globally across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australia. While MJT 3D printers can be expensive, their ability to fabricate highly accurate and multi-color parts provides a lucrative opportunity in the creation of advanced prototypes and medical models. The literature on MJT 3DP has expanded greatly as of late, in part aided by the lowering costs of the technology, and this report is the first review to document the applications of MJT in medicine. Additionally, this report portrays the technological information behind MJT 3DP, cases involving fabricated MJT 3DP models from the University of Cincinnati 3DP lab, as well as the challenges of MJT in a clinical setting, including cost, expertise in managing the machines, and scalability issues. It is expected that MJT 3DP, as imaging and segmentation technologies undergo future improvement, will be best poised with representing the voxel-level-variations captured by radiologic-image-sets due to its capacity for voxel-level-control.

A new test, the Moral Judgment Test–PE (MJT–PE), has good validity but scores on Competence should be used with great care. These scores will differ from those of the original Moral Judgment Test (MJT) because the single dilemma is targeted to the specific population of interest, physical educators. This reduces the variance in such a way that scores on the new test cannot be compared with or interpreted in the same way as scores on the original MJT. Careful research would be needed to develop norms for the MJT–PE; in the meantime, the two tests should be used together so that the C-scores can be interpreted with confidence.

Material jetting (MJT) is a promising additive manufacturing (AM) technique that offers high-quality appearance reproduction. Considering the limited selection of aesthetic materials available for MJT technology, a thorough optical analysis is required to determine their optimal application. This study focuses on the prominent appearance attributes in MJT and the role of texture variation due to different build orientations (BOs). For this purpose, tilted surfaces were manufactured in a direction ranging from 0° to 90° degrees at 15° intervals. The spectral reflectance, absorbance, transmittance, color difference, gloss, haze, scattering, and texture of MJT objects with varying BOs were investigated. To illustrate the variation in visual appearance and texture of the studied surfaces, the optical properties were rendered to three-dimensional (3D) spherical models. Further, the interaction of the appearance of 3D printing interacts with the quality improvement of AM surfaces is discussed. The results indicated that BO significantly affected the surface texture and layer orientation, leading to variation in surface quality by impacting all studied appearance attributes. Furthermore, tilted MJT surfaces exhibited more variation in reflectance than transmittance. As a result of the Kendall rank correlation coefficient and principal component analysis (PCA), light transmittance through parts manufactured at BO 75° showed the largest variation compared to 0°. Regarding light reflectance, 60° showed more variation among studied angles. The results of gloss, haze, and scattering studies revealed the significance of the measurement direction due to the role of microsurface normals in the surface texture.

Efficient thermal management is essential for low-temperature optoelectronic devices. Traditional liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling presents challenges such as frequent replenishment needs and limited operational duration. This study introduces micromachined Joule–Thomson (MJT) cooling as a superior alternative for temperature regulation in optoelectronic devices. We evaluated the thermal and optical performance of MJT cooling for a CdSe/ZnS quantum dot (QD) sample within a temperature range of 120–300 K. Thermal analysis showed that with a single 50 l nitrogen refill, the MJT system can operate continuously for over one week, surpassing the LN2 system by 11 times. The temperature stability was affected little by laser irradiation, with a <0.2 K rise at 5 mW of laser power. In addition, the MJT cooling led to an average blueshift of 1–3 meV in the emission peak of QDs and 0.3–2.3 meV reduced spectral broadening compared to LN2, attributed to a smaller sample-to-cold-stage temperature gap of about 8–9 K in the MJT setup. The standard deviations of peak energy and FWHM are in the order of E − 1 meV magnitude, demonstrating a comparable thermal uniformity compared to LN2. The vibration spectra obtained for both vertical and horizontal directions reveal the superior low-vibration characteristics of MJT cooling. These findings validate MJT cooling as a superior and reliable strategy for the thermal management of optoelectronics, ensuring prolonged operational durations, reliable temperature stability, enhanced temperature precision, high thermal homogeneity, and low vibrations.

PT. MJT is a company engaged in manufacturing that produces various types of plastic tubes for cosmetic packaging. Production activities at PT. MJT uses an intermittent process, which in the printing division requires a longer total setup time because this process produces various types of specifications of goods to order. This has an effect on the amount of engine breakdown. The purpose of this research is to try the method of forecasting the number of breakdowns for offset printing machines at PT. MJT. One of the methods used in this research is the Support Vector Machine method. Support Vector Machine is a method that can help predict the number of breakdowns that will be experienced by the offset printing machine at PT. MJT. Support vector machine is a method that can reduce the error value in forecasting compared to other methods. From this research, it is hoped that it can produce a forecast of the number of breakdowns for offset printing machines at PT. MJT for a period of one year or twelve periods.

Material jetting (MJT) products have a high subjective appearance quality in additive manufacturing (AM). MJT objects are typically manufactured from multiple layers of semi-transparent photo resins to achieve the desired appearance. This study explores the optical properties of photopolymer plates in monolayer and bilayer combi- nations. The role of the white substrate as the background plate in bilayer configurations is discussed concerning appearance reproduction in MJT parts. For this purpose, spectral reflectance, transmittance, absorbance, color difference, and texture were investigated for MJT objects with different plate combinations. The primary digital materials in MJT were further investigated for haze, gloss, scattering variations, and their corresponding bidirec- tional reflectance distribution functions (BRDFs). The optical properties of the studied surfaces were then applied to three-dimensional (3D) models to illustrate the variation in visual appearance and texture. According to the results, it was inevitable to use a white background plate for color reproduction. Therefore, increasing the layer thickness did not improve color fidelity. Due to the role of microfacet normals in the surface texture, gloss, haze, and scattering, results followed the same analysis pattern but depended on the measurement direction.

Muscle weakness is a common clinical symptom in children with spastic cerebral palsy (SCP). It is caused by impaired neural ability and altered intrinsic capacity of the muscles. To define the contribution of decreased muscle size to muscle weakness, two cohorts were recruited in this cross-sectional investigation: 53 children with SCP [median age, 8.2 (IQR, 4.1) years, 19/34 uni/bilateral] and 31 children with a typical development (TD) [median age, 9.7 (IQR, 2.9) years]. Muscle volume (MV) and muscle belly length for m. rectus femoris, semitendinosus, gastrocnemius medialis, and tibialis anterior were defined from three-dimensional freehand ultrasound acquisitions. A fixed dynamometer was used to assess maximal voluntary isometric contractions for knee extension, knee flexion, plantar flexion, and dorsiflexion from which maximal joint torque (MJT) was calculated. Selective motor control (SMC) was assessed on a 5-point scale for the children with SCP. First, the anthropometrics, strength, and muscle size parameters were compared between the cohorts. Significant differences for all muscle size and strength parameters were found (p ≤ 0.003), except for joint torque per MV for the plantar flexors. Secondly, the associations of anthropometrics, muscle size, gross motor function classification system (GMFCS) level, and SMC with MJT were investigated using univariate and stepwise multiple linear regressions. The associations of MJT with growth-related parameters like age, weight, and height appeared strongest in the TD cohort, whereas for the SCP cohort, these associations were accompanied by associations with SMC and GMFCS. The stepwise regression models resulted in ranges of explained variance in MJT from 29.3 to 66.3% in the TD cohort and from 16.8 to 60.1% in the SCP cohort. Finally, the MJT deficit observed in the SCP cohort was further investigated using the TD regression equations to estimate norm MJT based on height and potential MJT based on MV. From the total MJT deficit, 22.6–57.3% could be explained by deficits in MV. This investigation confirmed the disproportional decrease in muscle size and muscle strength around the knee and ankle joint in children with SCP, but also highlighted the large variability in the contribution of muscle size to muscle weakness.

AbstractMaterial jetting (MJT) is a category of additive manufacturing processes where the build material is deposited in the form of individual droplets. MJT has recently been expanded into the field of metal processing due to a potentially high printing speed at low equipment and raw material cost. For full 3D capability, support structures are needed that have to be removed after the print job. We examine water soluble salts and suitable nozzle materials to realise the printing of molten salt in a MJT process. Here, the wetting characteristics of the melt and nozzle are crucial because pronounced wetting is problematic for the ejection of droplets. A sessile-drop contact angle test stand was set up to evaluate the wetting characteristics of three salts or salt mixtures (NaCl, KCl–NaCl and NaCl–$${\hbox {Na}_{2}\hbox {CO}_{3}}$$ Na 2 CO 3 ) on six different nozzle materials (various ceramics and graphite), i.e. potential nozzle materials. The results indicate a high wetting tendency of most of the examined samples with the exception of KCl-NaCl on graphite. Application of these materials on a MJT test stand confirm the feasibility of our findings.
