El texto aborda la aportación a la expresión gráfica arquitectónica de un profesional ajeno a la disciplina, el autor de cómic e ilustrador neerlandés Joost Swarte (n. 1947). Se estudia para ello su colaboración con Mecanoo en el diseño del teatro Toneelschuur, ejemplo de participación del artista desde el embrión del proyecto hasta su definición final. El material gráfico conservado ha permitido analizar el papel que el dibujo y la ilustración jugaron en cada fase del proceso, así como su utilidad en la comunicación entre los distintos agentes participantes. El análisis se extiende a continuación a otras obras donde o bien la intervención de Swarte se limitó a fases concretas del proyecto o bien sus diseños funcionaron como adiciones artísticas a la arquitectura.

Cylindrical components produced by mecano-welding process are widely used in industries. The mecano-welding process consists of a roll bending sub-process which can produce non-closed cylinders and a welding process which can seam gaps. This paper proposes a numerical model to simulate the process and to get better understanding of the process mechanism. Explicit and implicit solvers are applied to the numerical modeling by using LS-DYNA and ANSYS software. The numerical model can provide a useful tool for design and optimization of the mecano-welding process.

A simple and efficient bottom-roller axle intersections approach for judging the omnidirectional mobility of the Mecanum wheel configuration is proposed and proved theoretically. Based on this approach, a sub-configuration judgment method is derived. Using these methods, on the basis of analyzing the possible configurations of three and four Mecanum wheels and existing Mecanum wheel configurations of robots in practical applications, the law determining wheel configuration is elucidated. Then, the topological design methods of the Mecanum wheel configurations are summarized and refined, including the basic configuration array method, multiple wheels replacement method, and combination method. The first two methods can be used to create suitable multiple-Mecanum-wheel configurations for a single mobile robot based on the basic Mecanum wheel configuration. Multiple single robots can be arranged by combination methods including end-to-end connection, side-by-side connection, symmetrical rectangular connection, and distributed combination, and then, the abundant combination configurations of robots can be obtained. Examples of Mecanum wheel configurations design based on a symmetrical four-Mecanum-wheel configuration and three centripetal configurations using these topological design methods are presented. This work can provide methods and a reference for Mecanum wheel configurations design.

The purpose of research is to create a contact element in order to simulate the dynamics contact phenomenon of drillstring and drillhole. The contact element is located at some selected node along the drillstring. In the contact element, not only transverse friction force but also the longitudinal friction forces are taken into account. The element stiffness and damping matrices are derived explicitly. This element is implemented in general and powerful multi-body dynamics analysis software, namely Mecano module of Samcef. Therefore, many computational aspects of the Mecano software, for example the nonlinear beam element, the implicit time integration method, can be directly applied.

Industrial forklifts are used to load and unload goods. Electrical forklifts consume less power to drive the vehicle. In crowded spaces with static and/or dynamic obstacles and small corridors, such as industrial floors, warehouses, offices, and hospitals, multidirectional cars could carry out crucial functions. Mecanum wheel-mounted forklifts have seen several designs developed recently to enhance their multidirectional portability and usefulness. In this project, the center of gravity of the forklift is 67mm from the front axle and mecanum wheel diameter is 60mm. The direction of the mecanum wheel is determined by the direction of the leading edge of the roller, if the roller is pointed left then it is a left wheel and if the roller is pointed right then it is a right wheel. The mecanum wheel is a device that can move a vehicle in all directions, including forward, backward, left, right, diagonal, and more. The four-wheeled Mecanum robot is widely used in various industries due to its maneuverability and strong load capacity, which is suitable for performing precise transportation tasks in a narrow environment. While the Mecanum wheel robot has mobility, it also consumes more energy than ordinary robots. The power consumed by the Mecanum wheel mobile robot varies enormously depending on their operating regimes and environments. Therefore, only knowing the working environment of the robot and the accurate power consumption model can we accurately predict the power consumption of the robot. In order to increase the applicable scenarios of energy consumption modeling for Mecanum wheel robots and improve the accuracy of energy consumption modeling, this paper focuses on various factors that affect the energy consumption of the Mecanum wheel robot, such as motor temperature, terrain, the center of gravity position, etc. The model is derived from the kinematic and kinetic model combined with electrical engineering and energy flow principles. The model has been simulated in MATLAB and experimentally validated with the four-wheeled Mecanum robot platform in our lab. Experimental results show that the accuracy of the model reached 95%. The results of energy consumption modeling can help robots save energy by helping them to perform rational path planning and task planning.

Mecanum wheels are capable of moving a vehicle to any direction instantaneously by the combination of independent wheel rotations. Because the mecanum wheel is composed of a hub and rollers, however, it has unavoidable drawbacks such as vertical and horizontal vibrations due to the sequential contacts between rollers and ground. In order to investigate the dynamic characteristics of a mecanum wheel, we made a prototype and performed experiments to measure the vertical vibrations. Interestingly, it was observed that the vertical accelerations were asymmetric with respect to the average value of signals; the vibration signals of upward and downward directions show quite different shape. This asymmetric phenomenon was confirmed through the dynamic simulations performed by RecurDyn. In addition, the peak-to-peak and RMS values of the displacements and accelerations were calculated to investigate the effects of the curvature of rollers on the vertical vibrations of the vehicle. Furthermore, we proposed a mecanum wheel having a spring to attenuate the vibrations. It was also noted that the significant reduction of the vertical accelerations was observed due to the absence of the spring. Finally, considering the equivalent stiffness of the mecanum wheel for several different fillet radii, we found the optimal geometric design which minimizes the vertical vibration of a mecanum wheel.

La Fototerapia es uno de los campos de la Medicina que ha experimentado unmayor desarrollo en las últimas décadas, ampliándose cada vez más el rango deenfermedades que pueden ser tratadas de esta forma. Quizás esta terapia representacomo ninguna otra la combinación entre la Física (radiación electromagnética) y laQuímica (el fármaco empleado o fotosensibilizador) para combatir enfermedades.El objeto de la presente Tesis Doctoral es el estudio teórico de compuestosempleados como fármacos en la denominada terapia PUVA, denominadosfurocumarinas. El estudio teórico químico-cuántico de los estados electrónicosexcitados de estas moléculas permite hallar alguna de las claves del mecanismo deacción fototerapéutica, que, según la literatura, se basa en la fotoconjugación con lasbases pirimidínicas del ADN por un lado y en la reacción con el oxígeno molecular delmedio celular produciendo oxígeno singlete tóxico por otro (terapia fotodinámica).Nuestro estudio del mecanismo tiene como principales objetivos proponermejores fotosensibilizadores y desentrañar el mecanismo fotoquímico subyacente eneste tipo de fotoquimioterapia. Inicialmente hemos centrado nuestros cálculos, mediantela metodología CASPT2//CASSCF, en el estudio de los estados excitados singletes ytripletes cuya participación en los procesos fotoquímicos radiativos y no radiativos esmás probable a fin de estudiar las principales propiedades fotofísicas de los compuestos(espectros de absorción y emisión, fuerzas de oscilador, momentos dipolares, tiemposde emisión radiativa, orígenes de banda, acoplamiento espín-órbita), en un primer pasopara racionalizar su mecanismo de actuación.Una vez analizado si se puebla eficientemente el estado excitado triplete(protagonista de la acción fotosensibilizadora) de cada molécula, estudiaremos cómointeraccionan estos fármacos con la timina del ADN y con el oxígeno molecular.Por último, se ha estudiado la formación de los dímeros de timina, una de laslesiones más frecuentes en el ADN, y cuya formación sigue un mecanismo similar a lacorrespondiente a la interacción entre las furocumarinas y la propia timina.Para ello será clave el análisis de las hipersuperficies de energía potencial de losestados implicados en un proceso dado, así como los cruces entre las mismas y lasbarreras energéticas para pasar de una región a otra de la hipersuperficie. De hecho, laFotofísica y la Fotoquímica modernas están basadas en el estudio de lashipersuperficies, las cuales pueden ser consideradas como el terreno de juego dondetienen lugar los procesos físicos y químicos.
This thesis is focused on studying the photochemical behaviour of thefurocoumarins in order to propose the best photosensitizer.Firstly the photophysics of psoralen, the parent molecule, will be studied.Afterwards how the lowest triplet excited state is populated will be analized, in bothpsoralen and thymine, since this state is the responsible for the photosensitizing action.The next step is studying the photocycloaddition between psoralen and thymine thatculminates in the formation of monoadducts and diadducts in DNA, which is the keypoint in the photosensitizing ability of these compounds. A parallel study of otherfurocoumarins (8-MOP, 5-MOP, TMP, khellin and 3-CPS) will be carried out in orderto rationalize which is the best drug from a quantum-chemical viewpoint.We will consider the other side of PUVA therapy as well: the interaction offurocoumarins with molecular oxygen through energy transfer to yield singlet oxygen,which is a strong electrophilic species that reacts with some components of the cellularmembrane causing cell death by apoptosis.Finally, the properties of thymine dimers, formed via another sort ofphotocycloaddition reaction, will be studied.The overwhelming majority of the calculations presented here will be carried outwith the CASPT2//CASSCF methodology, that is, energies at CASPT2 level andgeometries at CASSCF level. Specifically, we will compute the lowest-lying singlet andtriplet excited states, in order to rationalize the photophysical (electronic energies,oscillator strengths, dipole moments, radiative lifetimes, band origins, spin-orbitcoupling.) and photochemical properties (photocycloaddition, energy transfer) offurocoumarins.

O editor gráfico para Projeto Mecânico é um sistema desenvolvido para ser conectado a aplicativos na área de projeto mecânico. O objetivo do trabalho é a utilização dos recursos gráficos disponíveis nos microcomputadores tipo IBM-PC compatíveis, para tornar mais eficientes os programas de projeto, acoplando a parte gráfica às rotinas de cálculo e dimensionamento. Torna-se possível, então, o projeto de um componente desde a entrada de dados até sua saída em forma de desenho para a fabricação. Como exemplo foi elaborado um programa para dimensionamento de molas helicoidais de compressão. Este programa calcula a mola de forma a minimizar o parâmetro escolhido e convertido em elementos geométricos básicos, como linhas, arcos, círculos, etc., que são gravados num arquivo chamado arquivo gráfico. Este arquivo é interpretado pelo editor para gerar o desenho da mola na tela de vídeo ou nos dispositivos gráficos de saída como impressoras ou traçadores gráficos.

Mechanical alloying is a powder processing technique involving cold welding, fracturing mechanisms and rewelding of powder particles in a ball mill. The present work applied this technique with the purpose of processing titanium, niobium and tin alloys, through planetary ball mill and attritor mill. The atomic percentages of these elements were varied in six differents ways. The niobium hydrate was used on production of some alloys in study, with the purpose to observe the effects during the milling and on the alloys obtained after sintering. Differences between processing in planetary ball mill and attritor mill, as well the cold welding influences on the kinetic parameters of milling process were approached. The use of niobium hydrate result in a decrease of powders average crystallite size, and an increase of micro hardness of sintered alloys. This work obtained beta titanium alloys and alpha-beta titanium alloys in namometric sizes. The average crystallite size, for milled powders, was 7,6 nm.
Mecano-síntese é uma técnica de processamento em pó que envolve a soldagem a frio, mecanismos de fratura e a resoldagem das partículas de pós, em moinhos de bolas. O presente trabalho utilizou esta técnica com o propósito de processar ligas de titânio, nióbio e estanho, através de moinhos de bolas planetário e de atrito. As porcentagens atômicas destes elementos foram variadas de seis maneiras diferentes. O hidreto de nióbio foi utilizado na produção de algumas ligas em estudo, com o propósito de se observar os efeitos durante a moagem e na liga obtida após a sinterização. Diferenças entre o processamento em moinho de bolas planetário e o moinho de atrito, assim como as influências da soldagem a frio nos parâmetros cinéticos do processo de moagem, foram abordadas. O uso do hidreto de nióbio resultou na diminuição do tamanho médio de cristalito dos pós, e em um acréscimo na microdureza das ligas sinterizadas. Neste trabalho foram obtidas ligas de titânio beta e de titânio alfa-beta, em tamanhos nanométricos. O tamanho médio do cristalito, para os pós moídos, foi de 7,6 nm.

Resumo: Este trabalho propõe um novo modelo dinâmico para o comportamento de sistemas de bombeamento mecânico alternativo, considerando trajetórias de poço tridimensionais. Mostra-se que a formulação proposta é mais geral que as anteriores, e que vários dos modelos existentes, tanto para poços verticais como para poços direcionais, dela podem ser deduzidos. Os resultados do novo modelo, bem como os de outros seis modelos, são comparados com dados de campo coletados em 16 poços da Bacia Potiguar, Brasil. Esta comparação resultou na determinação do coeficiente de atrito de Coulomb e do fator de amortecimento adequados a estes poços. Verifica-se, ainda, que o modelo proposto é o mais preciso na previsão dos parâmetros básicos de projeto
Abstract: This work proposes a new dynamic model for the behavior of sucker rod pumping systems, that considers 3D well trajectories. It is shown that the proposed formulation is more general then the previous ones, and that several existing models, for both vertical and directional wells, can be deduced from it. The results of this new model, as well as of six other existing models, are compared with field data collected from 16 wells in the Potiguar Basin, Brazil. This comparison resulted in the determination of the adequate Coulomb friction coeficient and dumping factor for such wells. It is verified, also, that the proposed model is the most accurate in predicting the basic design parameters

Resumo da tese: As lesões traumáticas constituem a principal causa de morte nos indivíduos entre 1 e 44 anos de idade, estando a lesão cerebral envolvida em 50 % das mortes após o traumatismo. Os modelos experimentais de traumatismo crânio-encefálico (TCE) desempenham um importante papel na avaliação e compreensão das complexas alterações fisiológicas, comportamentais e histopatológicas associadas a esta forma de traumatismo. O trabalho realizado no âmbito desta dissertação tem por base um modelo experimental de TCE desenvolvido por Marmarou e colaboradores. Este é um modelo de TCE fechado, uma vez que o crânio é protegido de forma a evitar a sua fractura; desta forma podem ser infligidos níveis elevados de impacto e aceleração, resultando em lesão cerebral difusa. O termo "lesão primária" traduz os danos mecânicos sofridos pelo sistema nervoso central (SNC) no momento do impacto; estes danos não são reversíveis e por isso não são passíveis de tratamento. Por outro lado, a "lesão secundária " ou "lesão diferida" constitui um processo potencialmente reversível iniciado no momento da agressão traumática, surgindo os sinais clínicos numa janela temporal de algumas horas a dias após o TCE e progredindo durante dias ou meses. Após o TCE, a perturbação do equilíbrio iónico intracelular será o principal desencadeador de todo um conjunto de cascatas metabólicas que levam a lesão secundária. Resumo da tese: As lesões traumáticas constituem a principal causa de morte nos indivíduos entre 1 e 44 anos de idade, estando a lesão cerebral envolvida em 50 % das mortes após o traumatismo. Os modelos experimentais de traumatismo crânio-encefálico (TCE) desempenham um importante papel na avaliação e compreensão das complexas alterações fisiológicas, comportamentais e histopatológicas associadas a esta forma de traumatismo. O trabalho realizado no âmbito desta dissertação tem por base um modelo experimental de TCE desenvolvido por Marmarou e colaboradores. Este é um modelo de TCE fechado, uma vez que o crânio é protegido de forma a evitar a sua fractura; desta forma podem ser infligidos níveis elevados de impacto e aceleração, resultando em lesão cerebral difusa. O termo "lesão primária" traduz os danos mecânicos sofridos pelo sistema nervoso central (SNC) no momento do impacto; estes danos não são reversíveis e por isso não são passíveis de tratamento. Por outro lado, a "lesão secundária " ou "lesão diferida" constitui um processo potencialmente reversível iniciado no momento da agressão traumática, surgindo os sinais clínicos numa janela temporal de algumas horas a dias após o TCE e progredindo durante dias ou meses. Após o TCE, a perturbação do equilíbrio iónico intracelular será o principal desencadeador de todo um conjunto de cascatas metabólicas que levam a lesão secundária. Assim, o controlo desta fase crítica pelo bloqueio de canais iónicos após o trauma poderá de alguma forma minimizar a lesão secundária ao traumatismo.(...)

Resumo: Os transdutores piezoelétricos empregados na geração de ultra-som de alta potência são compostos de cerâmicas piezoelétricas e peças metálicas. Eles são pré-tensionados mecanicamente a fim de que a cerâmica não frature sob forças de tração. O pré-tensionamento mecânico produz modificações nos domínios da cerâmica e, conseqüentemente, as propriedades físicas e o desempenho são afetados. Este trabalho apresenta as variações dos coeficientes das equações piezoelétricas, do fator de acoplamento piezoelétrico e das perdas relacionadas ao pré-tensionamento mecânico. Os resultados experimentais são comparados com as simulações baseadas em um modelo linear, unidimensional e isento de perdas. Através destas comparações é possível explicar alguns efeitos comportamentais da cerâmica e fornecer informações para um futuro projeto de transdutor de ultra-som
Abstract: The pieroelectric transducers employed in the generation of high power ultrasound are composed of pieroelectric ceramic and metallic parts. They are mechanically pre-stressed in order to avoid ceramic fracture on tensile forces. The mechanical pre-stressing yields changes in the domains of the ceramic and, consequently, their physical properties and performance are affected. This work shows the variations on the pieroelectric equations coefficients, pieroelectric coupling facto r and losses related to mechanical pre-stressing. The experimental results are compared with the simulations based in an uni-dimensional, linear and lossless modelo This comparisions help in explaining some effects of the ceramic behaviour and provi de information for a future design of high power ultrasound transducer

Resumo: Neste trabalho experimental foi determinado o comportamento reológico do "compound", que é um substituto de chocolate onde a manteiga de cacau é total ou parcialmente substituída por uma gordura vegetal especial. Foram utilizados dois tipos de gorduras, sendo uma fracionada de palmiste (CBS) e outra hidrogenada de algodão (CBR), afim de observar como o tipo de gordura e suas características de composição e curva de sólidos podem influenciar as propriedades reológicas das amostras. As coberturas foram produzidas em planta piloto, aplicando-se a mesma formulação e processo para ambas amostras. O comportamento reológico foi determinado em reômetro Haake Rotovisco RV-20 com geometria de cilindros concêntricos, na faixa de temperatura de 38 a 50°C. Os reogramas foram descritos pelo Modelo de Casson na faixa de taxa de deformação de Oa 250 S-1.OS resultados obtidos mostraram que a viscosidade plástica e o limite de escoamento são sempre maiores para as coberturas CBR em todas as temperaturas de ensaio. Para ambas amostras observa-se que a viscosidade plástica diminui com o aumento de temperatura e o limite de escoamento apresenta comportamento variável. O efeito da temperatura sobre a viscosidade plástica (Kc) foi ajustado usando-se a equação de Arrhenius In Kc=A+B/T.
Abstract: Experiments were conducted in order to know the rheological bahaviour of compound that is a chocolate substitute where the cocoa butter is totally or partially replaced for a vegetable fat. It was used two kinds of fat; the first one is fractionated palm kemel oil and the second one is hidrogenated cottonseed oil, in order to observe how kind of fat and its composition and solid fat content can influence the samples rheological properties. The samples was produced at pilot plant, using the same recipe and process to get them. Rheometry was conducted with a Haake Rotovisco RV-20 system using concentric cylinders, at 38 to 50°C temperature range. Rheograms were fitted by Casson model for shear rate at 0-250 S-1range. The results show that plastic viscosity and yield value are bigger for CBR samples at ali temperatures. Plastic viscosity decreases with temperature increase and yield value has a unsteady behaviour for both samples. Plastic vicosity (Kc) of the fitted model was described in terms of temperature using Arrhenius equation In(Kc) = A + B / T.

Mecano-welding can efficiently produce cylinders used in various industries. The pyramidal three-roll bending process is commonly used to produce a cylinder with non-seamed gap. However, there is a planar zone near the front and rear ends. This planar zone can be seamed with a welding process. In this paper, a numerical model is proposed to simulate the roll bending process and the welding process so that the geometrical quality of the bent cylinders can be improved. Explicit and implicit solvers are applied to the numerical modeling by using ANSYS/LS-DYNA software. The numerical model can provide a useful tool for design and optimization of the Mecano-welding process.

Abstract Utilizing multiple small-sized automated guided vehicles (AGVs) in cooperatively transport large and heavy objects in manufacturing factories or logistics is an emerging research direction. Flexibility and efficiency can be enhanced by using multi-AGV comparing to a large AGV with higher capacity especially in clutter environments. In this paper, a multi-AGV system by using Mecanum wheels to provide omnidirectional movement is proposed for cooperative transportation. Accordingly, the proposed Mecanum-wheeled automated guided vehicles (MWAGVs) composed of Mecanum wheels and a rotary platform provides not only non-constrained movement but also planar displacement for allowance of distance errors. In the proposed MWAGVs, the formation control with fixed geometry during operation is significant especially with unknown object information, dynamic uncertainties, and external disturbances. Therefore, the passivity-based adaptive synchronizing control algorithm is developed to ensure stability and tracking performance with uncertain dynamic parameters. Simulations and Experiments show the efficacy of designed Mecanum-wheeled AGV.

Mecano-welding process for tubular sections is proposed for manufacturing wind towers. It would be achieved by welding several cylindrical segments produced through roll bending. The first stage is the roll bending from a plate with cylindrical rolls. During the second stage the gas metal arc-welding is used to join the gap of the bent tubular section. The purpose of this research is to model and simulate the process under the well-known ANSYS and ANSYS/LS-DYNA environment, to analyze the residual stress distribution, particularly in the welded zone. This paper presents the modeling and simulation preparation for the second stage.

However, there remain two planar zones near the front and rear ends of the bent shape. A mecano-welding process which provides improved circularity of the bent shape is proposed in this paper. This process includes three sub-processes: the first sub-process is the roll bending from a plate with cylindrical rolls; the second sub-process is the gas metal arc-welding process used to join the gap of the bent tubular section; the third sub-process is the rerun roll bending of the welded shape. Results of the numerical simulation of the first two sub-processes under the well-known ANSYS and ANSYS/LS-DYNA environment are reported. The bent shape after the first roll bending, the distributions of the temperature and residual stress after the welding are illustrated and discussed.

Abstract Mobile robots and autonomous guided vehicles have become an indispensable part of modern industrial environments and are used for a wide range of handling operations. To fully use the potential of mobile platforms, omnidirectional platforms are a good choice. A prominent and widely used variant in the industry are Mecanum wheels, which allow arbitrary movement in any direction in the plane. In most applications only the kinematics is considered, however, dynamic models that take the geometry of the rollers into account are still missing. In this paper two models for Mecanum wheels with different degrees of detail are derived. The detailed model considers the rollers as single bodies undergoing contact and friction with the rolling plane. As the wheel consists of multiple rollers, a complex contact situation with temporal overlapping and additional vibrations occurs. The simplified model reproduces the overall kinematics of the rollers with orthotropic friction and only one rigid body for the wheel, thereby being computationally more efficient. Both models are well suited to reproduce essential dynamic effects of a mobile robotic platform, which can not be described by the conventional kinematics model. We implement and compare both models with experimental results, showing the good performance of both models.
