We demonstrate that "Bimaximal + Democratic" type neutrino mass matrix can accommodate the deviation of θ⊙ from its maximal value along with the other present-day neutrino experimental results, namely, atmospheric, CHOOZ, neutrinoless double beta decay (ββ0ν) and result obtained from WMAP experiment. We define a function χp in terms of solar and atmospheric neutrino mass squared differences and solar neutrino mixing angle (obtained from different experiments and our proposed texture). The masses and mixing angles are expressed in terms of three parameters in our proposed texture. The allowed region of the texture parameters is obtained through minimization of the above function. The proposed texture crucially depends on the value of the experimental results of ββ0ν experiment among all other above-mentioned experiments. If, in future, ββ0ν experiments, namely, MOON, EXO, GENIUS shift the lower bound on 〈mee〉 at the higher side by one order, the present texture will be ruled out.

The UB matrix approach has been extended to handle inelastic neutron scattering experiments with differing k_{\rm i} and k_{\rm f}. We have considered the typical goniometer employed on triple-axis and time-of-flight spectrometers. Expressions are derived to allow for calculation of the UB matrix and for converting from observables to Q-energy space. In addition, we have developed appropriate modes for calculation of angles for a specified Q-energy position.

Grinding experiments were conducted using vitrified CBN wheel on particulate reinforced titanium-based matrix composites (PTMCs) and Ti-6Al-4V matrix. The issues discussed are grinding forces, surface roughness, and the formation of surface integrity. The main results are summarized as follows: (1) The grinding forces increase with the increasing workpiece speed and depth of cut during grinding PTMCs and Ti-6Al-4V materials. (2) Decreasing depth of cut properly contribute to obtaining finished surface with good surface during grinding of PTMCs using CBN wheel, but the workpiece speed has little influence on the surface roughness value of PTMCs. (3) The formation of surface integrity of PTMCs is due to the combined removal of the TiC and TiB reinforcements and the Ti-6Al-4V matrix.

Their oscillation can be described by a 3×3 unitary matrix, containing three mixing angles θ12, θ23, θ13, and one CP phase. Both θ12 and θ23 are known from previous experiments. θ13 was unknown just two years ago. The Daya Bay experiment gave the first definitive nonzero value in 2012. An improved measurement of the oscillation amplitude [Formula: see text] and the first direct measurement of the [Formula: see text] mass-squared difference [Formula: see text] were obtained recently. Thermoset-based polymer matrix composites are widely used for production of intumescent fire protective coatings; many operational properties of such coatings can be further enhanced by means of nanoscale layers between matrix and disperse phases. The dependence between temperature of processing and temperature of glass transition of thermosetting matrix allows to produce gradient of glass transition temperature along the depth of the coating and lower exfoilation of char residue from steel substrate. In the present article we have offered the novel design scheme for such coating. Several results of laboratory and numerical experiments that are within the framework of the offered scheme are also presented. Application of the offered scheme allows to develop efficient fire protective coatings in purposely and precisely controlled manner.

The influence of voids on the moisture uptake of epoxy matrix has been studied. Specimens with void contents from 0 to about 50% were prepared. Void geometry and content were analyzed using microscopy and density methods. Void-containing samples were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic mechanical analysis which verified consistency of chemistry. The moisture uptake of specimens immersed in distilled water at 40℃ was monitored. The rate of absorption and saturation moisture content increased with increasing void content. Mass balance calculations revealed that only 6–8% of the void volume is occupied by water at saturation. The moisture uptake of void-free and void-containing specimens was non-Fickian. The Langmuir model provided better fits to the experimental results, although the high void content specimens showed substantial deviations from the Langmuir diffusion model. The moisture diffusivity of the void-free and void-containing specimens agreed reasonably with the Maxwell inclusion model.

This paper presents theoretical and experimental aspects of Jacobian nullspace use in kinematically redundant robots for achieving kinetostatically consistent control of their compliant behavior. When the stiffness of the robot endpoint is dominantly influenced by the compliance of the robot joints, generalized stiffness matrix can be mapped into joint space using appropriate congruent transformation. Actuation stiffness matrix achieved by this transformation is generally nondiagonal. Off-diagonal elements of the actuation matrix can be generated by redundant actuation only (polyarticular actuators), but such kind of actuation is very difficult to realize practically in technical systems. The approach of solving this problem which is proposed in this paper is based on the use of kinematic redundancy and nullspace of the Jacobian matrix. Evaluation of the developed analytical model was done numerically by a minimal redundant robot with one redundant d.o.f. and experimentally by a 7 d.o.f. Yaskawa SIA 10F robot arm.

The density matrix parametrisation of collisionally excited atomic ensembles is generalised to account for projectile and target spin polarisations. The density matrix elements, containing spin-resolved alignment and orientation parameters, can be determined by measurements of the 'generalised Stokes parameters' introduced by Andersen and Bartschat (1994) to describe scattered-projectile-polarised-photon coincidence experiments. Focusing on electron impact excitation of light alkali-type targets and mercury, the present experimental status of such experiments is reviewed, in particular with regard to the 'perfect scattering experiment' whereby all independent scattering amplitudes are determined.

When SiC particles are added into aluminum, property of aluminum is greatly improved during a reinforcing phase to produce particle reinforced aluminum composites. However, cutting tools wear out quickly and it is difficult to meet machining accuracy and surface quality requirements due to the rough surface produced by the reinforcement process. This paper presents a simulation model of SiC particle-reinforced aluminum matrix composites is established considering particles, cohesive elements, and material matrix. Stress distribution and surface roughness are analyzed for SiC/Al matrix composites based on the cutting process. Experiments are performed to test the degree of surface roughness using different cutting parameters. The relationship of cutting depth, cutting velocity, and feed rate per tooth to surface roughness degree is obtained for SiC/Al matrix composites. The optimization of cutting process is performed based on simulation. The results lay a foundation on the optimization of machining processes for metal matrix composites.

Matric suction has great impact on the strength of soil. Some physico-mechanical indexes, such as the water content, dry density of soil, have close relationship with the matric suction. The experiments were conducted in the laboratory to study the relationship between the matric suction, the water content and dry density of unsaturated red clay. The filter paper method was used to get the soil-water characteristic curve of the unsaturated red clay. The results show that: water content has great impact on matrix suction. The soil-water characteristic curve can be divided into three stages. In low water content area, matrix suction decreases rapidly with the increase of water content. Then, the rate of change slows down after the inflection point. Matrix suction increases obviously with the increase of dry density under the condition of low water content, but the impact disappears under high water content. So the matrix suction is affected by dry density and water content.

Shanks' transformation is a well know sequence transformation for accelerating the convergence of scalar sequences. It has been extended to the case of sequences of vectors and sequences of square matrices satisfying a linear difference equation with scalar coefficients. In this paper, a more general extension to the matrix case where the matrices can be rectangular and satisfy a difference equation with matrix coefficients is proposed and studied. In the particular case of square matrices, the new transformation can be recursively implemented by the matrix $\varepsilon$-algorithm of Wynn. Then, the transformation is related to matrix Pad\'{e}-type and Pad\'{e} approximants. Numerical experiments showing the interest of this transformation end the paper.
