Zusammenfassung In diesem Beitrag geht es um die zeitgenössische Rezeption des Wörterbuch[s] der elsässischen Mundarten (Martin/Lienhart 1899/1907) auf der Grundlage von Besprechungen, die im Zeitraum von 1897 bis 1910 in Zeitungen, wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften und Büchern erschienen sind. Diese Besprechungen werden zunächst in ihrem historischen und soziokulturellen Kontext dargestellt, bevor näher auf ihren Inhalt eingegangen wird; hier werden insbesondere die Äußerungen zu den Vorzügen und Schwächen des Wörterbuchs sowie die ideologische und politische Dimension des Werkes in den Blick genommen.

<div>Este artigo resulta da investigação da potencialidade do melodrama – modalidade dramatúrgica emblemática do repertório circense-teatral – como instância mediadora entre a tradição popular e algumas manifestações associadas à indústria cultural e à cultura de massas. Seguindo as pistas de estudos como os de Martin-Barbero (1997), Huppes (2000) e Xavier (2003), pretende-se compreender um pouco mais movimentos recentes de inserção do melodrama em outros meios. Para tanto, é importante perceber em que veículos o melodrama se inseriu e de que forma se dá sua leitura.<br><br /></div><div><div>This paper is the result of an investigation of the potential of melodrama – the emblematic dramaturgical genre of the circus-theater repertoire – as a mediator between tradition and some popular events associated with the culture industry and mass culture. By following the clues from studies such as Martin-Barbero (1997), Huppes (2000) and Xavier (2003), it seeks to understand more recent efforts of insertion of melodrama in other media. In order to do so, it is important to realize how melodrama is interpreted and into what media it has permeated.</div></div>

Two new formulas, the Martin-Hopkins and the Sampson formula, were recently developed to overcome shortcomings of the Friedewald formula for calculating LDL-cholesterol. We aimed to compare the concordance of the two formulas with apolipoprotein B (apoB), a surrogate marker of the number of LDL particles. In a study of serum lipid data of 1179 patients who consulted the AZ St-Jan Hospital Bruges for cardiovascular risk assessment, the correlation and concordance of the Friedewald, Martin-Hopkins and Sampson formulas with apoB concentration, measured by immunonephelometry, were determined and compared. The Martin-Hopkins formula showed significantly higher correlation coefficient than the Friedewald formula with apoB in the entire dataset and in patients with low LDL-cholesterol < 1.8 mmol/L. Both Martin-Hopkins and Sampson formulas yielded > 70% concordance of LDL-cholesterol with regard to treatment group classification based on population-equivalent thresholds of apoB in hypertriglyceridemic patients (2-4.5 mmol/L), with the highest concordance (75.6%) obtained using Martin-Hopkins formula vs. 60.5% with Friedewald formula. The Martin-Hopkins (and, to a lesser extent, Sampson) formula is more closely associated with the number of LDL particles than Friedewald formula. This, in combination with literature evidence of lesser accuracy of the Friedewald formula, is an argument to switch from Friedewald to a modified, improved formula.

AbstractWe consider a second-order elliptic operator L in skew product of an ordinary differential operator L1 on an interval (a, b) and an elliptic operator on a domain D2 of a Riemannian manifold such that the associated heat kernel is intrinsically ultracontractive. We give criteria for criticality and subcriticality of L in terms of a positive solution having minimal growth at η (η = a, b) to an associated ordinary differential equation. In the subcritical case, we explicitly determine the Martin compactification and Martin kernel for L on the basis of [24]; in particular, the Martin boundary over η is either one point or a compactification of D2, which depends on whether an associated integral near η diverges or converges. From this structure theorem we show a monotonicity property that the Martin boundary over η does not become smaller as the potential term of L1 becomes larger near η.

Zusammenfassung Im Zentrum der Gottes- und Trinitätslehre Martin Luthers steht der Name Gottes. Trinität und Tetragramm sind jener Name, der Gottes Wesen nach der Grammatica ist. Luzide Kreuzestheologie (Operationes in psalmos) und blindes Vorurteil (sog. Judenschriften) scheinen in dieser These untrennbar. Die weithin vergessene, fundamentale Unterscheidung zwischen dem unaussprechbaren Eigennamen und den Mitteilungsnamen Gottes wird an unbekannten und allzu vertrauten Texten Luthers, z. B. an seiner Bibelübersetzung, erschlossen, interpretiert und aktualisiert. Sie bringt neue Sprach-Musik-Formen hervor, z.B. das ›trinitarische Glaubenslied‹. Luthers Versuch, sie in einen trinitätstheologischen Begriff zu übersetzen, scheitert - und zeigt, worin über Luthers Namenstheologie hinaus zu gehen ist.

El presente ensayo aborda la iconografía de San Martín representada por pintores y escultores peruanos y extranjeros. Vemos como los artistas reconocieron en San Martin el haber sido quien proclamó la independencia del Perú. Este aspecto de orador fue la cualidad que lo distinguió y que fue apropiada por Leguía cuando este se asoció con la figura de San Martin y se proclamó como el fundador de la Patria nueva. Leguía, Daniel Hernández, arte y política, Carlos Baca Flor, pintura y escultura peruana en el oncenio Abstract This essay seeks to investigate the iconography of José de San Martín (1778-1850) as shown in his portrayal by Peruvian and foreign painters and sculptors. We see how these artists acknowledged San Martín as the one who proclaimed the independence of Peru. This rhetorical aspect was the key element that distinguished him and this same element would later be appropriated by Augusto B. Leguía (1863-1932), when the latter one associated himself with the figure of San Martín and proclaimed himself the founder of the “Patria Nueva”. Abstract The restoration of St Martin church started end of the 1990’s by lacing-up the building with stabilizing steel frames. The layout of the lacing-up frames was inspired by the assumption that the observed cracks and deformations in the building were caused by differential settlements of the foundations. Further investigations during the final restoration works in 2011–2012 revealed that cracks were caused by inappropriate foundation interventions as part of an earlier restoration project in 1949–1950 as well as by non-balanced forces from the vaults. Based on the new findings the global restoration concept was adapted and strongly simplified.

Abstract This paper deals with a generalization of polyominoes called (a, b)-connected discrete figures, where a and b respectively denotes the connectivity of the foreground (i.e. black pixels) and background (i.e. white pixels). Formally, a finite set of pixels P is (a, b)-connected if P is a-connected and P̄ is b-connected. By adapting a combinatorial structure enumeration algorithm due to Martin, we successfully generate (a, b)-connected discrete figures up to size n = 18.

O objetivo foi compreender o cotidiano da pessoa na vivência da hemodiálise. Pesquisa qualitativa com embasamento fenomenológico de Martin Heidegger. Participantes foram 14 pessoas cadastradas na lista de espera do transplante renal em tratamento hemodialítico em uma clínica de terapia renal substitutiva, sediada em um município Mineiro. Realizou a técnica de entrevista fenomenológica. Os resultados foram anunciados por um início abrupto e os sinais e sintomas da doença. Caracterizando sua descoberta, como o não conhecimento sobre a doença e sua terapêutica, expressando sentimento de tristeza, raiva, revolta, incomodo e ao mesmo tempo um dever a realização do tratamento. Relatam a necessidade da informação e divulgação sobre a doença renal crônica. A discussão possibilita a compreensão dos sentidos do ser-aí-hemodialítico mostrado pelo falatório, curiosidade e publicidade do cotidiano, como angústia imprópria guiando o ser a inautenticidade. Além da relação entre enfermeiro e ser cuidado que desvelou o cuidar com solicitude substitutiva. Conclui-se que a melhoria da atuação do enfermeiro pode ser pautada por abordagens teóricas e filosóficas dando suporte para um cuidar autentico buscando uma visão de saúde pela ótica do ser cuidado em interação com o cuidador embasando tanto nos aspectos objetivos como subjetivos.

Adefovir, a nucleotide analog developed by John Martin, was a major breakthrough in the treatment of chronic Hepatitis B. Prior to adefovir, Hepatitis B treatment was limited to two therapeutic modalities, either interferon, which carried significant side effects and was efficacious in a minority of patients, or lamivudine which showed no durable effects with short-term use and a high rate of resistance with long-term use. Adefovir was found to be effective in suppressing viral replication and in resolving the hepatic inflammation associated with hepatitis B with only rare instances of resistance. In this article, we appreciate John Martin’s contribution to science and medicine as we review the landmark trials of adefovir that brought forth a new era of treatment of Hepatitis B.

Like any number of American allies, Canada declined to recognize the revolutionary government of the People’s Republic of China, and helped exclude it from the United Nations in the 1950s. By the early 1960s, there were strong pressures for change. This article examines the efforts of Paul Martin, Sr., Canada’s foreign minister from 1963 to 1968, to respond to those pressures and modernize his country’s approach to the emerging Asian giant. After establishing Martin’s diplomatic credentials, the paper traces the evolution of his attitude toward Beijing during the 1950s as he accepted the logic and necessity of recognition. Opposed by Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson and many of his cabinet colleagues, who feared U.S. retaliation, Martin persisted in trying to win over their backing. Progress, when it finally came in 1966, was incremental and much too late, prompting critical attacks on the minister’s reputation and his “hush puppy style.”
