Annotation:
'The Phoenix Eyes' is a novel set in Brisbane. It is the story of a wedding, the story of one night and the months which follow. It is the story of Taiwan and the struggles lived there and from there. It is the story of four generations of women and women-to-be, women changing, growing and maturing together and on their own. Each of these women has ties to the other and ties to the past. Ties which are still ripening and enriching their lives. Ties to and from Taiwan which will affect the present and the future. But most of all, 'The Phoenix Eyes' is a story of love. Of many kinds of love and how love touches us, at any age.

Annotation:
According to Chinese traditions, patrilocal residence is believed to be linked with early and high marital fertility. However, despite the rapid fertility decline and the enormous social and economic changes that have occurred in recent years in China, research still shows that family structure in China is relatively stable compared to western countries. This dissertation investigates the effects of family structure on fertility in contemporary China. This dissertation had two main objectives: first, to examine the effects of family structure on the marital fertility of married women; and second, to better understand the effects of family structure on the premarital fertility by examining the effects of family structure on premarital sex of never-married women. This dissertation utilizes data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey and the Chinese Health and Family Life Survey. Logistic regression model and Cox proportional hazards model are used to to estimate the the effects of family structure on marital fertility and premarital sex. The major finding in this dissertation shows that patrilocal residence has been well preserved in contemporary china. After controlling for relevant factors, co-residence or quasi-coresidence with parents-in-law significantly accelerates the transition from marriage to first birth, and promotes a desire for more children. However, second births are significantly impacted by factors associated with socioeconomic status and family planning policy other than family structure. This dissertation also confirmed the effects of family structure on premarital sex in terms of behavior, but not in terms of attitudes. After controlling for relevant factors, co-residence with parents significantly decreased the odds of engaging in premarital sex.

Annotation:
In this research I address the phenomenon of female fans’ fascination with online boys’ love fiction in China, and the discussion centers on the questions of why these women are interested in the boys’ love theme, why they prefer boys’ love to traditional heterosexual romance, and how they define and identify with male–male relationships in the boys’ love fiction. Through focusing research on a popular Chinese online-fiction website for women (www.jjwxc.net), I use historical review, online observations, and content analysis of online boys’ love fiction to collect data on my research questions. Understanding female fans’ expectation of and attitudes towards love and romance and analyzing the content of boys’ love fiction allow for a comprehension of the interactions of gender, sexuality, identity, and culture in shaping these women’s practice and choice of boys’ love genre in China.

The studies so far on female workers in the third world have confined female workers within the ahistorical analytical scheme, therefore they looked upon all female workers of the third world as the homogenized one. They neglected the fact that the socio-cultural conditions of each country could influenced the status of female workers in each specific context. This study analyzes the gendered strategies of labor control peculiar to Taiwanese-owned enterprises(Taishang) and the China''s socio-cultural conditions simultaneously exert effects on the status of female workers in both labor and domestic domains. The status of female workers in Taiwanese-owned enterprises manifests both the general principle of the capitalist system which adopts a gendered strategy of labor control and the peculiarity resulting from the interaction of the above-mentioned general principle and China’s socio-cultural institutions.
