Context aware services have the ability to utilize information about the user’s context and adapt services to a user’s current situation and needs. In this article the authors consider users’ perceptions of the added value of location awareness and presence information in mobile services. The authors use an experimental design, where stimuli comprising specific bundles of mobile services were presented to groups of respondents. The stimuli showed increasing, manipulated, levels of context-awareness, including location of the user and location and availability of buddies as distinct levels. Their results indicate that simply adding context aware features to mobile services does not necessarily provide added value to users, rather the contrary. The potential added value of insight in buddies’ location and availability is offset by people’s reluctance to share location information with others. Although the average perceived value overall is rather low there exists a substantial minority that does appreciate the added context aware features. High scores on constructs like product involvement, social influence and self-expressiveness characterize this group. The results also show that context aware service bundles with utilitarian elements have a higher perceived value than bundles with hedonic elements. On the basis of the different results some guidelines for designing context aware mobile services are formulated.

Introduction: Due to their short shelf-life, platelet concentrates are particularly susceptible to the product shortages which may result from shortfalls in donor collections or disruptions to the manufacturing and supply chain. Mechanisms to address shortages are particularly important in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Canadian Blood Services (CBS), the national blood center serving Canada except Quebec, called a national Green Advisory Phase from May to June 2020 on platelet products and O negative red blood cells, requesting daily hospital inventory reports. When such shortages occur, it may be challenging to identify which surgical procedures are likely to require platelet transfusion support and should therefore be rescheduled. Methods: Information systems maintained by the Blood Transfusion Service (Wellsky®) and the Department of Surgical Services (ORSOS®) were cross-referenced for the 2019 calendar year at a large adult teaching hospital in Toronto with active cardiovascular and transplant programs. Only procedures that were performed more than 25 times during this period were included in the analysis. Average platelet consumption on the day of surgery, 1 week post-operatively and 30 days post-operatively was calculated. Results: 50 procedures with a potential for requiring intra-operative platelet transfusion support were identified, with the greatest demand being those involving cardiopulmonary bypass (CBP) support (27% of cases transfused, median of 2.7 units per case) and heart, liver and lung transplantation (24% of cases transfused, median of 4.2 units per case). Although spinal surgery as a group was not a high platelet consumer (4% of cases transfused, median of 0.3 units per case), certain complex procedures such as thoracic-lumbar laminectomy and thoracic-lumbar decompression and fusion were more at risk of requiring platelet support during and in the post-operative period. Due to their frequency, procedures on CPB created the highest demand in platelets with close to 4500 units distributed during the year. Standard deviations for many procedures was large, up to 10 units in the intra-operative period. Other procedures with low-risk of intra-operative platelet transfusion support but a possibility of requiring platelet transfusion in the 30-day post-operative period included renal transplantation and neurosurgical procedures. Interestingly, renal transplant patients generally did not require transfusion support during surgery or in the immediate post-operative period but only when looking at 30-day requirements. For most patients, these procedures would therefore be at risk only in the setting of very prolonged shortages. Conclusion: Data-driven demand forecasting for intra-operative and post-operative platelet transfusion support may be of value in risk-benefit analysis of proceeding with specific surgical procedures in the setting of platelet shortages. However, some of the procedures with the highest platelet consumption serve the sickest patients and cannot be postponed. Disclosures No relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

Background of the study: Intrauterine contraceptive devices IUCD are a safe and cost-effective contraceptive method. Despite this, the utilisation rate for IUCDs is relatively low in many countries. Provision of training regarding IUCDs to nurses, is one approach to overcome some of the barriers that may prevent wider uptake of IUCDs. Objectives: To assess the competence of nursing students regarding IUCD insertion. To evaluate the effectiveness of model based training on competence regarding IUCD insertion among nursing students and to find out an association between pre test competence scores of nursing students with their selected socio demographic variables. Methodology: An evaluative study was conducted among 30 final year B.Sc Nursing students of KLES’ Institute of Nursing Sciences, Hubballi. The research design used for the study was Pre-experimental; one group pre-test, post-test design. OSCE based checklist of interval IUCD insertion procedure was used for obtaining the level of competence. Results: The study results revealed that majority of the subjects 20 (66.7%) were females and 14 (46.6%) had previous knowledge regarding IUCD insertion. With respect to competence scores, majority of the subjects in pre-test 24 (80%) had unsatisfactory competence, 6 (20%) had satisfactory competence. In post-test 25 (83.33%) had satisfactory competence, 05 (16.66%) had unsatisfactory competence. After model based training on competence regarding interval IUCD insertion, there was a significant gain in competence i.e 41.4%. The calculated paired ‘t’ value (tcal = 24.44*) was greater than the tabulated value (ttab = 2.045). This indicates that the gain in competence score was statistically significant at 0.05 level of significance. Conclusion: The study concludes that model based training on competence regarding interval IUCD insertion was effective in upgrading the skills of final year B.Sc nursing students. Hence, it is recommended to re-address & improve pre-service nursing education pertaining to the family planning services. Key words: IUCD, competence, OSCE, nursing students, model based training.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to re-test the determinant factors of the quality of financial statements and performance of the government by adding contextual factors, such as personal factor, system/administrative factor and political factor, that may affect the quality of financial statement information and performance of the government. Personal factor is proxied to the competencies that affect the quality of financial statements and performance. Social administrative factor is proxied on the regulations and presentation of quality financial statements. Design/methodology/approach The analysis unit in this study was conducted at the organizational level. The research object was in South Sulawesi Province. This was a descriptive and verificative research with survey technique. Based on the objectives of the research, this is an explanatory research. The research method used was explanatory survey with quantitative approach. The population of this research was proxied to the Regional Unit Organization (Organisasi Perangkat Desa) which compiled the financial statements in South Sulawesi Provincial Government consisted of 803 units of Local Government Agencies (Satuan Kerja Perangkat Daerah). The purposive sampling technique was chosen under the following criteria: the regional government whose financial statement has been audited by Badan Pemeriksa Keuangan; the regional government whose financial accountability report has been evaluated by Indonesia’s Agency for Financial and Development Supervision (Badan Pengawasan Keuangan dan Pembangunan). In line with the criteria mentioned above, the minimum samples required for 26 observations/indicators are 5×26=130 respondents. The sample size met the minimum sample requirement of 5 for each group (cell) (Hair et al., 2006, p. 112). Findings Personal factors competence affects the financial statements quality. The high personal factors competence will affect on the high financial statements quality. System/administration factors regulation affect the financial statement quality. The high system/administration factors regulation will affect on the high financial statements quality. Political factors affect the financial statements quality. The high political factors will affect on the high financial statements quality. Personal factor competence has no direct effect on the performance. The high personal factor competence will not affect the high or low of the performance. However, there is a significant indirect effect between personal factor competence on performance through the financial statements quality which means that higher personal factor competence will lead to higher performance through financial statements quality. System/administration factor regulation is not directly affects the performance. The high system/administration factor regulation will not affect on the high or low of the performance. However, there is a significant indirect effect between system/administration factor regulation on performance through the financial statements quality which means that higher the system/administration factor regulation will lead to higher performance through financial statements quality. Political factors is not directly affects the performance. The high political factors will not affect the high or low of the performance. However, there is a significant indirect effect between political factors on performance through the financial statements quality which means that the higher the political factor, it will leads to higher performance through the financial statements quality. Financial statements quality affects the performance. The high financial statements will affect on the performance. Originality/value The research issues raised are the increasing public demands for the government services and accountability, while on the other hand the government is faced with the report and financial quality that are below the expectation. This issue is a national strategic issue, leading this research to aim at providing guidelines that can help the regional government to formulate operational policies and strategies of the quality improvement of financial statement and performance of the regional government.

Introduction: Bleeding issues specific to women and adolescent females are common across the world. These issues can present either due to gynecological causes or obstetric one; however these can result in significant morbidity and work up needs to be done to rule out any underlying bleeding diathesis. Aims & Objectives: To determine frequency of various bleeding disorders among gynecological and obstetric patients presenting with bleeding. Place and duration of study: It is a cross sectional study which was conducted in the Hematology Department, Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore. The duration of study was 6 months i.e from 21st Oct, 2018 to 30th April, 2019. Material & Methods: Females with age range of 15 to 50 years irrespective of pregnancy presenting as menorrhagia, metrorrhagia or obstetrical bleeding were included. Results: In the present study there were total 140 cases with mean age of 30.14±9.59 years. There were 98 (70%) cases that were pregnant. There were 35 (25%) cases presented with PPH (Post Partum Hemorrhage), 42 (30%) with IPH (Intra Partum Hemorrhage), 49 (35%) with menorrhagia and 14 (10%) with metrorrhagia. HELLP (Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes and Low Platelet count) syndrome was seen in 13 (9.29%) cases, DIC (Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation) in 2 (1.43%), gestational thrombocytopenia in 7 (5%), while factor deficiency in 34 (24.29%) cases; and 84 (60%) of cases revealed none of the bleeding disorder. Out of total 34 cases of factor deficiencies, vWD was the most common, seen in 20 (58.82%) cases. There was none of the cases seen having deficiency of factor II, VII, VIII, XI, XII. HELLP syndrome was seen in 11 (84.62%) of the cases with age group 15 to 32 years and similarly both cases of DIC were seen in same age group; but the difference in both the age groups regarding these bleeding disorders was not statistically significant with p= 0.38. There was no significant difference in terms of pregnancy; however, both cases of DIC were seen in pregnancy with insignificant p value of 0.51. HELLP syndrome was more seen in IPH affecting 5 (38.40%), factor deficiency in menorrhagia affecting 13 (38.2%) with p value of 0.61. vWD and factor V Leiden presented in 44.4% cases each with PPH, and vWD affected 87.5% of cases in IPH without any significant difference with p= 0.42. Conclusion: Bleeding disorders are not uncommon in gynecological and obstetric conditions. Factor deficiency were the most common causes and amongst these vWD was the most deficient factor. There was no significant association with any confounding variable; however, DIC was only seen in obstetrical conditions. Key words: Bleeding, menorrhagia, HELLP, DIC, IPH, PPH

Low-threshold support services are provided within the basket of services of German long-term care insurance as a part of respite care to support family carers and people with dementia. This study investigates various stakeholders’ (providers, coordinators, volunteers, family carers and people with dementia) perspectives on low-threshold support service regarding its organisation and conceptualisation as well as how stakeholders and users value low-threshold support service using a qualitative approach. Twelve guided interviews and group discussions were conducted with 31 participants. Organisation and conceptualisation are characterised by the lowness of the service thresholds, which is perceived to be quick and simple forms of support with no user requirements. Multiple barriers such as the challenging behaviour of people with dementia and their initial refusal as well as their holding low-threshold support service in low esteem can hinder the utilisation of these services. Low-threshold support service within the scope of the long-term care insurance law can be separated into two types: low-cost (non-professional) services and high-cost services with comprehensive training for ‘employed’ volunteers (professional). Both types are constantly developing within the landscape of the German long-term care system, and low-threshold support service appears to be adapted to diverse needs. Therefore, it is important to avoid replacing non-professional services with professional services.

Intrauterine Device (IUD) is one type of contraceptives that is made from flexible plastic and implanted in the uterus. The IUD is included as a long-term contraception which is very effective in regulating the distance of pregnancy, is reversible, and can be worn by women of all reproductive ages. Therefore, the government is doing all kinds of effort to the number of IUD users. Surprisingly, the number of women using the IUD has kept decreasing every year. This study aims to analyze the factors affecting the low use of IUD contraception in East Java in 2015. The data were obtained from the Mid-term Development Plan Survey in 2015 by taking a sample from all the women who were willing to be interviewed in the Mid-term Development Plan Survey in East Java Province with the following characteristics: being 15–49 years of age, being married, not getting pregnant, and were still using contraceptions. There were 1,220 respondents who could be interviewed. The result of binary regression testing with a significant degree of 5% yielded three significant variables, namely age (P-value = 0.002), education (P-value = 0.000), and birth control service (P-value = 0.000). Healthy women who were around 15–19 years old, had low education, and had limitted access to private birth control services tended to avoid the IUD contraception more. Therefore, it is expected that the government is making cooperation with the related sectors in an attempt to increase the use of IUD contraceptives in the East Java Province in 2015 with more emphases on age, education and birth control service locations.

This research empirically tested a theoretical model by defining senior customers’ intentions to use robot service restaurants emerging in South Korea. Non-face-to-face services have become increasingly important for seniors. Therefore, restaurant marketers should cater to senior customers’ needs by sustaining robot service restaurants. The study analyzed 243 questionnaires to verify the reliability and validity of the measurement items. The research hypotheses were examined using structural equation modeling (SEM). The suggested model comprised three stages: motivated consumer innovativeness (MCI), perceived value, and planned behavior (attitude, intention to use). The results revealed that senior customers’ perceived values positively influenced attitude and were enhanced by hedonically MCI (hMCI) and socially MCI. Moreover, the hedonic and social elements of motivation improved the attitude and usage intentions of robot service restaurants for senior customers. However, these relationships differed in terms of the income level of the customer groups. For the low-income senior-level group, hMCI was more influential on the perceived value. This study is meaningful because it analyzes the effect of MCI of seniors on the perceived value of robot service restaurants, which are growing rapidly in South Korea. It has empirically proved the moderating effect of different income groups, providing practical implications.

ORBIT is an evidence-based approach to the analysis and training for interviewing high-value detainees by law enforcement, security services, and the military. Although its origins go as far back as 2005, it gained considerable traction after 2012, when the High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group, formed by the Obama Administration in the United States, funded work for assessment of its application in the context of interviews with high-value targets. Since then, the authors have collected the largest corpus of data anywhere in the world on real suspect interviews with terrorist detainees. This book shows what they found—that rapport-based methods work and that coercion, persuasion, and threats do not. Outlining the development of their own unique stance on rapport and its influences drawn from humanistic psychology, the authors show, through real-life examples and careful analysis, the reasons why “harsh methods” must be rejected and why compassion and understanding work in interrogation.

This chapter proposes a conceptual model, the 121 e-Agent Framework, for Customer Relationship Management (CRM) in academic libraries. Linked data and Semantic Web are the core components of this model. The implementation of the Framework will enable the participating U.S. academic libraries to reach out to their user communities through systematic customer group identification, differentiation, and interaction. The main contributions of the chapter are 1) applying Semantic Web technologies for CRM in academic libraries using the 121 e-Agent Framework, 2) defining the relevance challenges of CRM for academic libraries, 3) adding trust management to the linked data layer with a touch of tagging, categorizing, query log analysis, and social ranking as part of the underlying structure for distributed customer data filtering on the Web in CRM applications, and 4) making the approach extensible to address the challenges of CRM in other fields.

Most of the existing mobile services were designed based on the client/server architecture. Those mobile services neither paid much attention to mobile users’ interactions with their environments nor considered the collective efforts between the mobile users in a dynamic peer group. In this article, the notion of ambient e-service is so defined as to identify a new scope of mobile e-service, which address dynamic collective efforts between mobile users (enabled by mobile peer-to-peer technology), dynamic interactions with ambient environments (envisioned by location-based service), the moment of value (empowered by wireless technologies), and low cost service provision. The notable features of ambient e-services are the exhilarated linkage based on social context and significantly rapid growth of connections. We also present an ambient e-service framework that characterizes ambient e-services with three dimensions (value stack, environment stack, and technology stack), followed by several exemplars of ambient e-service applications. Moreover, we present the ambient e-service embracing model (ASEM) that addresses the integrated consideration of trust, reputation, and privacy required for fostering the growth of ambient e-services and steers the directions of future fruitful relevant research.

Globally, only about a sixth of the 3 billion poor people of working age currently have access to formal financial services. This translates to 17% coverage of the market, leaving 83% under-served or “unbanked”. Addressing the needs of these people is the “self-sustaining approach” to microfinance. Mobile banking is one of the newest approaches to the provision of financial services made possible by the widespread adoption of mobile phones in low income countries. However, reports show that potential users may not be using these systems despite already being available. This study was conducted in 2008. It extends the Luarn & Lin mobile banking adoption model by adding two additional constructs: “Enhancement of image” and the “enhancement of quality of life by having access to financial service” to test the attitude toward mobile banking. In order to test these constructs, 11 hypotheses are proposed. The chapter successfully applies Luarn & Lin’s model in a new geographic and economic context. Consistent with their study, perceived usefulness, perceived credibility, perceived ease of use and perceived self-efficacy were found to be significant antecedents. Perceived financial costs, however, was found to have a positive relationship with attitude. This finding is diametrically opposite to Luarn & Lin’s study. Perceived enhancement to quality of life showed a strong relationship and Perceived enhanced image showed a weak relationship with the attitude toward mobile banking. The control group analysis showed the previously unbanked group (Mzansi) had the highest expectation of mobile banking and also found the idea most attractive. This study therefore concludes that mobile banking can indeed be a channel to reach out to low income groups.

This chapter presents a project in which students taking an undergraduate course on Design Thinking participated in a university widening participation project, visiting local schools from a low socioeconomic status background and engaging the school students in a design exercise. The project aimed to draw on the value of service learning, learning through an engaged and socially meaningful task, with tertiary students learning to facilitate design, following principles of co-design, in a community of stakeholders, and secondary students gaining contact with university life, seeing an undergraduate perspective on design, and receiving education in design thinking. Tertiary students were asked to develop design thinking toolkits that would support their design facilitation process. The authors present the results of a study of the project, based on students' assignment submissions, and a focus group following the activity.

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has prepared “Guidelines for Risk-Informed In-service Inspection (RI-ISI) for Piping.” This document provided instructions and acceptance criteria for licensees to develop an RI-ISI program integrating both risk insights and traditional analysis as an alternate to the current programs for piping inspection. In response to the CNSC guideline, a CANDU Owners Group (COG) project was initiated to develop a best-fit methodology for nuclear systems within the CANDU design. The traditional EPRI RI-ISI methodology was selected as a starting point for the CANDU best-fit methodology development. Since characterization of risk requires knowledge of both failure potential and the consequence of failure, these values were determined for in-scope piping welds. Once the risk associated with each component was established, the components were ranked accordingly, elements were selected based upon the sampling percentages of EPRI RI-ISI, and a comparison was made between plant risk under the current CSA N285.4 / augmented programs and RI-ISI. Application to a number of nuclear and non-nuclear systems has been completed and has shown where inspection allocation can be improved and where low-value added inspections can be reduced. Work is underway to extend the results of this project to conventional systems and components beyond piping welds.

With the explosive growth of transaction activities in online payment systems, effective and real-time regulation becomes a critical problem for payment service providers. Thanks to the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), AI-enable regulation emerges as a promising solution. One main challenge of the AI-enabled regulation is how to utilize multimedia information, i.e., multimodal signals, in Financial Technology (FinTech). Inspired by the attention mechanism in nature language processing, we propose a novel cross-modal and intra-modal attention network (CIAN) to investigate the relation between the text and transaction. More specifically, we integrate the text and transaction information to enhance the text-trade joint-embedding learning, which clusters positive pairs and push negative pairs away from each other. Another challenge of intelligent regulation is the interpretability of complicated machine learning models. To sustain the requirements of financial regulation, we design a CIAN-Explainer to interpret how the attention mechanism interacts the original features, which is formulated as a low-rank matrix approximation problem. With the real datasets from the largest online payment system, WeChat Pay of Tencent, we conduct experiments to validate the practical application value of CIAN, where our method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.

When welding onto an in-service pipeline, to facilitate a repair or to install a branch connection using the “hot tapping” technique, two risks need to be considered. The first is the risk of burnthrough, where the welding arc causes the pipe wall to be penetrated allowing the contents to escape. The second is the risk of hydrogen cracking that arises from the fast cooling rates that tend to be produced by the ability of the flowing contents to remove heat from the pipe wall. To prevent hydrogen cracking, at least one of the three conditions necessary for its occurrence must be eliminated. Beyond the use of low-hydrogen electrodes to minimize hydrogen levels, it is prudent to develop and use procedures that minimize the formation of crack susceptible microstructures. This paper reviews existing methods for selecting parameters and qualifying procedures for welding onto in-service pipelines. HAZ hardness is an indicator of the susceptibility of a microstructure to cracking. A widely-used value below which it is generally agreed that hydrogen cracking is not expected is 350 HV. Unfortunately, there is no one hardness level above which the risk of hydrogen cracking becomes unacceptable. This paper also describes the development of a hardness evaluation criterion that can be used to quantify the trade-offs that can be made between HAZ hardness, hydrogen level, and chemical composition. Finally, the results of a recently-completed group-sponsored project, where procedures for welding onto in-service pipelines were developed over a wide range of conditions, are also reviewed. The results can be used to select an appropriate procedure that is resistant to hydrogen cracking for a particular application. The use of these results allows in-service welding to be carried out in a safe, cost-effective manner, allowing both economic and environmental benefits to be realized by avoiding pipeline shutdown and interruption of service.

Abstract The amount of green water and the associated loads that an ocean-going vessel may encounter during its service life are important aspects to consider in the vessel’s design and classification. As green water is typically a highly non-linear phenomenon, commonly the maritime industry relies on model tests to predict green water loads and their occurrence. In recent years, however, a lot of progress with Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has been made in predicting non-linear flows and associated loads at a high level of accuracy. Especially in the field of wave impacts on (moored) offshore structures at zero speed, significant progress has been made and documented using CFD. A natural extension of this progress is to expand the obtained confidence in the applicability of CFD for simulating extreme wave events to applications involving vessels at forward speed. To that end, this paper presents a validation study towards the prediction of green water loading on a (typical) container vessel at forward speed by CFD. For validation, two extreme green water events were selected from a model test campaign carried out at MARIN within the context of the CRS (Cooperative Research Ships) working group ‘green water dynamics’. In these tests a KRISO Container Ship (KCS) is sailing in head seas when encountering severe green water. As CFD tool, the Cartesian-grid based Volume-of-Fluid CFD solver ComFLOW was selected. Furthermore, a deterministic approach is taken for the validation, by reconstructing the non-linear incoming wave in a high amount of detail and imposing the 6 degrees of motion of the vessel using the wave basin measurements. Time traces of the green water flow on deck and local- and global impact loads on the breakwater are presented and compared against the experimental data. Detailed visualizations of the CFD results are presented to further illustrate the obtained match with the model test results and emphasize the additional value of complementing model tests with deterministic CFD analysis.

Abstract Standard field architecture is generally based on topsides production and distribution of power and chemicals necessary to operate equipment in drill centers. The paper will present efficient field architectures adapted to operate remote tie-backs with different combinations of subsea electrical power distribution, remote power generation and storage, and improved ways to mitigate corrosion, hydrates and wax issues for long tie-backs. Developing remote resources requires several technology bricks that enable a cost effective and reliable technical solution. To reduce the CAPEX, the main objective is to reduce the number of tubes typically with one single heated flowline to avoid a long and costly service line or with one small power cable and local distribution of power to avoid a heavy and expensive large umbilical. Alternatively, power can be generated and stored at drill center location and chemicals can also be managed locally with limited OPEX. A significant focus was done recently on technology developments enabling long distance tie-back developments. Domain of application and interest of each technology is generally well known and the delivered value is well presented. Looking for the most appropriate combination of technologies on a new field development is now the new challenge to figure out new opportunities. This paper proposes to group the long distance tie-backs fields in three main categories based on extensive studies done for several operators and to present the best architecture for each category. The first category groups very long distance single end tie-backs for which a cold flow system combined with full electrical equipment at drill center location is adapted. The second one is applicable for more consequent development where several drill centers are combined to one long and heated export line; with subsea electrical distribution to power each branch of the remote field and local management of chemicals at each drill center. The third category groups all daisy chain developments for which a heated line gathers the production coming from each fully electrical drill center. Each field development can generally be categorized in one out of the three categories presented in this paper. Based on this categorization, the right combination of low carbon and reliable new technologies enables valuable development of long tie-backs and then increases utilization area of each existing asset.

Abstract Focused Ion Beam (FIB) circuit edit allows for rapid prototyping of potential semiconductor design changes without the need to run a full manufacturing cycle in a semiconductor Fab. By FIB editing a completed module, thorough testing on the bench or in a full system can be achieved. Logic can be toggled, validation of speed enhancements performed, and constructive and destructive failure analysis can be enabled. In order to fulfill all the needs of clients in a rapidly evolving SOC driven market, simply modifying existing devices by “rewiring” circuits is becoming insufficient. Often the team is tasked with making very repeatable structures to aid the circuit analysis group. These include relatively precise resistors for tuning RF circuits (part of an RC network), adding known loads or delays, et cetera. Naturally resistive FIB deposited metal lines connected to the existing circuitry can be used in this capacity. FIB chip edit is considered to be a “Direct Write” process. The beam pattern in conjunction with process gases defines the regions of milling and deposition. Unfortunately, FIB edit is rarely an exact science. In many cases, a number of characteristics seem to be outside the realm of precise repeatable control. This is evident not only in individual tool operational logs but also in FIB tool matching, where maintaining identical system performance within the lab is difficult or nearly impossible. These characteristics are highly dependent on precursor reservoir composition and flow, surface adsorption conditions, beam patterning integrity, and the total interaction space of competing back sputtering during the new material structure formation. Due to these factors, the shape, composition and electrical performance of metal and insulator depositions vary over an often unacceptable range. As a result, we were not meeting the needs of some critical customer applications. Direct written precision resistive structures displayed several issues for which iterative edits were required to compensate for variability. When attempting to create an exact resistance, this process was not reliable, nor was it repeatable enough for accurate circuit performance trimming. Space-constrained serpentine resistors or multiple discrete resistors side-by-side showed the greatest process variability. Metal deposition processes tend to be somewhat self-limiting, so thick boxprofile lines are difficult to form. Conductive material deposited outside of the pattern definition (overspray) results in line-to-line leakages. Attempts to remove the overspray thru ion beam assisted etch-back tends to damage the deposited conductors and underlying insulators. The low-k region between lines can become cross-linked, experience gallium doping, and become tungsten impregnated. This lowered the resistivity of the insulator, increased the resistivity of the conductor, and produced variability in the device which was especially an issue when dealing with varying initial substrates. GLOBALFOUNDRIES began a project to create a more robust repeatable resistive structure by removing several variables. Rather than direct writing lines onto a top surface layer, a confined deposition based on the concepts of dual damascene processing used with copper layers in modern semiconductor fabrication will be employed. The damascene process begins with the definition of a box to be filled with a conductive material. The process of ion beam gas assisted anisotropic etching/milling has a far more predictable outcome than ion beam induced deposition. It is possible to create a surface box mill or even a deep drilled via of desired dimensions with a more consistent repeatability. Deposition of tungsten into a confined region using, for example, a W(CO)6 precursor and a Ga+ ion beam results in an excellent via fill. Using this behavior, precision resistors can be created with metal deposition within the trenches which are created by the gas assisted mill. An enclosed space can be filled nearly void-free, and has repeatable electrical parameters. The self-limiting factors with tungsten deposition go away as sputtered material becomes trapped within the well resulting in a near limitless Zheight potential. The constant dielectric with a uniform and contained tungsten fill can allow for a well-defined resistivity for the FIB deposited tungsten material. Having a known resistivity, calculation of dimensions for resistive and inductive structures during the design process becomes feasible. With process variability under control, structures can be formed reliably enough to offer this as a service to customers.
