Der volle Inhalt der QuelleFounded on November 5th 1913, the Regular National Grand Lodge of France plays a specific role in French Freemasonry. Indeed, unlike the Grand Orient of France and the Grand Lodge of France which are strongly committed to social issues, it focuses on the moral formation of its members and has a a symbolical approach. The following points will be emphasized: - the notion of “Masonic Regularity” defined by the United Grand Lodge of England ; - the reasons for the absence of a “regular” Grand Lodge in France in spite of the foundation of two French speaking lodges in London ; - the evolution of the English speaking Lodge “Anglo-Saxon” n°343 founded in 1899 by several English and American Masons under the Jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of France but not recognized by London although it required its members to believe in the Great Architect of the Universe ; - the underestimated influence of the spiritualist Masonic current of Jean Bricaud, the mason from Lyon; - the failure of Bro. De Ribaucourt and his Lodge “Centre des Amis” to form this new structure because of the opposition of the Grand Orient of France to the presence of a Christian Rite: the Rectified Scottish Rite ; - the setting of British Military Lodges and the failure to rally several other Lodges of the Grand Orient of France during World War I ; - the specificity of the Regular National Grand Lodge of France (British predominance, the moral qualms of catholic Freemasons and the pioneer role of its two Lodges of Research) ; - the relations with the United Grand Lodge of England and the other “Regular” Grand Lodges, and the impact of the Declaration of 1929 promulgating the Basic Principles for Grand Lodge Recognition

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleAppeared in the 17th century in the British Isles, Masonic lodges spread rapidly in European and colonial cities during the 18th century with a cosmopolitan project to establish a free and fraternal space of sociability beyond the political, religious, national and geographical boundaries. In the French kingdom, where there were only legal associations recognized by the King or the Church and integrated into the society of orders and corporations, the success of Freemasonry was exceptional within the sociability of Old Regime by its fast and durable implantation, its international networks, and its social openness. This thesis aims to analyze how and why contemporaries commit themselves to construct, organize, control, delimit and reconfigure the spaces and networks of Masonic sociability from the Enlightenment to the end of the First Empire in Bordeaux, a major Masonic center at the regional, national and European level. To make a micro-history of Bordeaux lodges in times of "revolutionary transition", the author resorted to the systematic exploitation of new Masonic sources from Moscow and Minsk, without forgetting the careful re-reading of Masonic documents preserved at the National Library of France, the Municipal Library and the Municipal Archives of Bordeaux, the Departmental Archives of Gironde and Herault. At the end of this research, the author achieved three main findings. By analyzing the functions of the local authority of Masonic regulation from the Loge Générale founded in the mid-1740s to the federation of lodges during the Revolution and the Provincial Grand Lodge under the First Empire, this thesis has highlighted the importance of local initiative in the organization, maintenance and survival of the Masonic space, and the complex and contradictory relations of the Bordeaux lodges with the national obedience located in the capital. This thesis has also described the different forms of Masonic solidarity and beneficence in the process of passing from Christian charity to secular philanthropy, not only as a dynamic of the Masonic fraternity, but also as a means of dialogue with the outside world for a form of sociability without official patents. Finally, this thesis has clarified the continuity and vitality of Masonic sociability under the Revolution with its rapid reprise of activity under the Thermidorian Convention and the Directory by analyzing the reactions and adaptations of the lodges to the change of political and social conditions in order to expand the knowledge on the Revolutionary history of French Freemasonry

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe aim of this thesis is to understand the modalities and the logics of arrangements in religious healing practices in Betsileo region, in the central highlands of Madagascar. In this context, the ritual treatments are offered by soothsayers-healers and possessed by family ancestors, royal ancestors and/or spirits of the nature, but also the exorcists of the lutheran protestant movement of Revival (fifohazana), who appeared in the Betsileo village of Soatanàna, in 1894. This research was principally conducted in the regional capital, Fianarantsoa, and its surroundings. This study aims, by examining religio-therapeutic process, to investigate the juxtaposition of healing methods in spite of impervious discourses. Therapeutic itineraries lead patients to treatment rooms in soothsayers-healers’ homes, to reception rooms of the Revival movement, to public places of worship (in the city of Fianarantsoa and surrounding forest areas), to herbalist market stalls in urban areas, or tohospitals and dispensaries. Thus, the central dimension of religious territoriality appears as central to these cumulative logics in the Betsileo region, in Madagascar, but also in Malagasy Protestant Church abroad (FPMA). In this sense, the relation to religious-therapeutic is constructed in a globalized world and is negociated with the codes of biomedicine

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis research is devoted to the study of various aspects of sociability in Bas-Berry (Indre) in the 18th century. It focuses on traditionnal associations, such as confraternities or young people's societies, but also on more innovative ones as free-masons' lodges. More informal, but very much identity-minded gatherings are analysed as well, for example parochial fetes and seigniorial honorific ceremonies. Confraternities, which had a very popular recruitment, are characterized by a great stability, as they fullfiled the role of representing local populations. Likewise, parochial fetes and seigniorial ceremonies enjoyed the same stability. On the other hand, young people's societies seemed to be more fragile. As for masonic lodges, which were very active, they only concerned a narrow elite of noblemen and bourgeois. The French revolution was a major upheaval as far as all these societies are concerned, and a lot of them disappeared during its radical phase. The influence of confraternities however is still felt, namely in its bearing on the religious policy of the new authorities

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe great Scottish symbolic lodge (grande loge symbolique ecossaise) which was created in France in 1880 numbers about thirty lodges in operation. In its maintained form, it disappeared in 1911. In spite of its minor look, the history of the G. L. S. E. Throws a new light on the characteristics of the French masonic order at the end of the XIXth century. The analysis is organized around a double thesis: the wish of the obedience’s and the society for more democracy, and the question of women's initiation. This approach emphasizes two aspects so far unknown of masonic historiography: the internal crisis of the order, and the presence of advanced minorities within its body. Besides this survey attempts to bring to light this variety of strategies and militant practices of free-masons in the last quarter of the century. In short, the ambition of this research is to integrate into the masonic and profane context an original obedience, which was an instigator of the institutional structure of the French contemporary freemasonry

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe purpose of this doctoral thesis is to study the evolution of Les Loges School over a period that spans from 1881, when secularisation was introduced, to 1980, when the first married woman was sent on secondment from the Ministry of Education to take up her post as superintendent of the school. The issue is about the tension induced by the changes in teaching methods due to the secularisation and a survival from the past through its educational model, which makes it a peculiar place to socialise. Through a chronological approach, this study first focuses on the history of the schools from their origin – then imperial girls schools for orphans – to the departure of the latter from the Congrégation de la Mère de Dieu owing to the secularisation. The study then throws light on the administrative running and teaching methods of Les Loges School, as well as on the daily life of the staff and the pupils. Eventually this thesis considers the specificities of being a superintendent through the study of three of them between 1938 and 1980; to do so, the way they acted and positioned themselves is put into perspective as regards the historical and sociological context

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis focuses on the urban practices of British, Canadian, American and French migrants who work and live in Seoul, South Korea. In line with the academic research on urban practices of the middle and upper-middle classes and on skilled migrations, we will question the social heterogeneity of these migrants through the study of their residential, schooling and migration practices. This research combines seventy interviews with quantitative analysis (census, immigration data). Results show that these migrants form a "social patchwork" whose practices in Seoul fit with those of the middle and upper-middle classes in their respective countries. Depending on the cases, their housing practices correspond either to a quest for self-segregation or, in contrast, for "international" socialization. Schooling practices show strategies for which "international" socialization is a cornerstone. Although their statuses and practices are heterogeneous, we find that these people have, during their migration in South Korea, privileges linked to their nationalities and class origins. The ease with which they migrate and find employment is the result of asymmetric migration policies between their countries of origin and South Korea. This migration privilege allows them to accumulate, depending on their trajectories, economical, social and cultural resources in Seoul. The thesis explores the practices of "privileged migrants" in Seoul and aims to contribute to the sociology of migration, to urban sociology, and to social class analysis

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe development of the high degrees of the French freemasonry in the middle of the 18th century, is the object of current researches, also linked with the study of the origin of the masonic traditions. These researches can be based on the analysis of the texts but also in a new way on the study of masonic images, and especially the tracing boards. These tracing boards must be listed, identified, and compared with the rites to reveal their specificity in terms of masonic “language” borrowed from esoteric and religious currents and from operative knowledge. Our topic is to examine how the various degrees and then the rites had structured these themes, to build a set of myths and of legends of freemasonry creation. The iconography of the tracing boards modifies and completes the knowledge only providing by the study of the rituals. The iconography also guarantees the efficiency of the symbol; that is why its analysis, coupled with the study of the esoteric and religious currents on the "high degrees" masonry is very instructive, at first on social and political topics. It is a question of consolidating a symbolic power, i. E. A metamorphosis of various forms of the power. By this power from the image and its own representation, the language on the tradition is also fixed in the “quest of the origins” and participated also to the religious and philosophic issues. The dialectic of the faith in God and the investigation of the nature, associated with an esoteric language, allows the freemasonry to simultaneously preserve the modernity and the traditions. Borrowed from currents, the freemasonry has built its own tradition and by this way, its simple transmission

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleWithin the myth - acclaimed or decried - our purpose is to give an objective account of historic truth, with temperance our guide. Was there anything like a Masonic Third Republic ? With our answer grounded on the workshop in hand - "Arts and Friendship" at the Orient of Aix-en-Provence - we shall review the place of a lodge which coped with the obstacles it encountered before setting its sights on the improvement of humanity, the proclaimed ideal of its obedience, the Grand Orient de France. The chief concern of the Freemasons is religion : the deterioration of relations due to the breach that took place in 1877 could have been avoided, given that all men of good will, will eventually unite. Then, in the twentieth century, social issues took precedence over religions ones due to the Masonic law separating Church from State passed in 1905. Lastly, the thirties saw the uncertainties of Freemasonry in the face of the ideologies that swallowed it up before it rose again. This analysis aims at using the past to throw a light on the present as the standpoint of the Freemasons of those days is more topical than ever: "Radicalization is not breed by the Republic's strictness, it rather thrives on laxity"

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe aim of the work has been to gain advanced knowledge in vocal production by investigating different methods to raise the quality of the vocal parts in a music production. An important question has been whether the focus, to achieve a good result, mainly has to be the recording of the song or whether much can be done through post-processing in order to achieve a good result. During this project I have chosen to work with three productions where I sing the vocal parts myself. These have slightly different styles on the song and I have chosen just these to challenge myself and how to edit and produce the vocal part for at good result in the final production. For the production I have used Logic Pro X as DAW. The result is three productions where the production methods used, from my view, clearly has contributed to a better result compared with productions that I previously have performed. The methods and techniques that I have applied include the Melodyne software, which I have used to improve the quality of the song by making the song tighter and cleaner. Also equalizer and compressor have been used to improve the sound quality. However, it is important to conclude that the vocal parts in the productions, despite extensive processing with efficient editing tools, would need to be re-recorded before the songs can be published.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleAt the beginning of the twentieth century arose new ways to organize urban space. This work describes this process from a rarely adopted perspective : it studies the first French policies aimed to assist the construction of social housing, so-called « habitations à bon marché » (cheap rental dwellings - henceforth, HBMs) between 1889 and 1939. These policies not only concerned the buildings themselves but also transformed the settlement patterns of their tenants and therefore, the town where they took place. They also newly legitimated the authorities taking a larger role in a specific field of urban activities hitherto mainly handled by private interests : the inside of the blocks. This study analyzes the various ways in which the rules controlling the building of HBMs have been developed and modified, and how these defined, or even determined the link between these dwellings and their territories. Is there a connection, thus, between housing process and town planning? First, we have shown the major specificities of the environment generated by the building of HBMs. Then, we have studied the great national controversies that lead to the adoption of new financial and legal devices regulating the building of these dwellings. This work ends with the description of how these policies have been implemented in two very different towns : Nantes, a large port, during its economical reconversion, and Neuilly/Marne, a small town in the Parisian suburb faced with unprecedented urbanization

This study has a qualitative approach and based on the ethnography conducted from September 2013 to December 2014 in public lectures offered weekly by Theosophical Dharma Lodge, located in Porto Alegre-RS. The aim of this study is to analyze how the precepts of Modern Theosophy are articulated and are touted by research participants in their daily lives. From participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and research in theosophical literature, it was possible to conclude that understanding of Modern Theosophy presented by the analyzed subjects in the Theosophical Dharma Lodge arises between the place of a spiritualism current of 19th century that preserves esotericism, occultism and Eastern religions features as the writings of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, but also adds references to religiosities and practices of the New Age universe.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe free masonry is according to the Larousse Encyclopaedia "an association partly secret of people that profess brotherhood views, identify themselves by signs and emblems and are divided in groups called freemason's lodges". We might question about the free masonry's development in Paris between 1852 and 1870. The choice of this period is related to the will to emphasise the importance of the Second Empire, often forgotten, because encircled between the First Empire, presented as glorious, and the birth of the Third Republic. To wonder about the situation of the free masonry within the French capital also brings up many questions. Is there a Parisian remarkablneness in the free mason's lodge studied ? Could the proximity of the imperial power have some incidence ? Can we remark social characteristics worthy of note ? To conduct this work, the researcher profits of his own investigations as well as important work on which he can learn on. One must point out Vincent Wright and Sudhir Hazareesingh's study on the Grand Orient's lodge, just before the Third Republic. This approach raises the picture of the provincial lodge's situation during a part of the Empire and allows many comparisons. It also puts a useful outlook regarding the Parisian situation. This situation was tackled under several points of view in general History books as well as punctual articles. My thesis on the Parisian free masonry under the Second Empire studies three distinct characteristics, by searching and distinguishing the different tendencies fluctuating between continuity and changes

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleFreemasonry spread throughout Europe in the eighteenth century. Although the Constitutions of Anderson barred women from membership right from the beginning, women were initiated in France and Germany. The present research starts from the observation that we are confronted to a double phenomenon. On the one hand the formal exclusion from male lodges according to the regulations of the Grand Lodges. On the other hand the proved existence of the initiation of women in masonic lodges. The organization of these lodges suggests other remarks and several issues have arisen. What are the precise reasons of this exclusion and what are its origins? Are women defined in the same way in England, France and Germany? If we can identify the reasons of this exclusion, are they intrinsic to freemasonry itself or rather linked to the definition of the public and private spheres? How can we explain that these rules of exclusion could be overcome and that a model of integration be invented? In the first part of this study the research is based on the mentalities existing in the three different societies with regard to the freemasons’ opinions on women. The second part is analysing the arguments brought forward to justify women’s exclusion from freemasonry. The third part deals with women's lodges and particular attention is given to the speeches delivered in these lodges as well as to the rituals in use. The documentation consists mostly in primary sources, such as books published in the eighteenth century, press articles, but also masonic songs and poems

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleAt the crossroad between sociology of knowledge, sociology of education and political sociology, this thesis examines certain social practices of collective work by public speaking of members, described as democratic. In this study, Freemasonry constitutes a revealing field of research. Historically characterised by a very elitist recruitment mode, Freemasonry has gone through a process of democratisation during the last century. As a result, Freemasonry shows much more social heterogeneity then before.. Considering Freemasonry as tacit pedagogic device, this research examines the sociological processes at work in the social appropriation of a practice based on abstraction and transferability of symbolic relations. The data analysis (interviews, written productions of masons, official texts) allows highlighting some specificities of this apprenticeship: election, déprofanation and improvement, which are built through the cumulativity of collective work and the possibility of revision. As a matter of fact, the interest of this study goes far beyond the Masonic lodges themselves. Using the concept of a tacit pedagogy, what is at stake is apprenticeship as production and reproduction of knowledge, including the fundamental issues of the right to improve within pedagogic structures and the elaboration of a collective normativity
