Women continue to be in the minority in school administration in public schools in the United States, although the majority of teachers are female. The role of assistant principal is the gateway to school administration. The purpose of this study was to describe the essence of the transition from teaching to school administration, the role of a female assistant principal, and the career aspirations of female assistant principals. This study used a phenomenological approach to understand the essence of the transition for the participants. Six women were interviewed using a semi-structured interview protocol to collect data on their experiences transitioning to the role of assistant principal. Using the process of horizonalization, the data were transcribed and analyzed using statements and quotes from the interviews to develop themes common to all participants. Findings revealed that these women continually seek to better themselves, others, and their organizations. They experienced a significant sense of loss as they transitioned to their new role. Lastly, the supports needed by women as they continue in their career as school administrators were uncovered.

One of the challenges facing community colleges in the United States is the looming retirements of executive/senior-level leadership, particularly the president, on a wide scale. This study explored the career aspirations of executive-level leaders within the community college using Social Cognitive Career Theory as the conceptual framework. Within the context of a three-person collaborative dissertation project, a mixed methods case study approach was utilized for the research design. It first examined the perceived and preferred organizational culture(s) by administering the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI). Building upon results of the OCAI, interviews with executive-level leaders explored how personal and institutional factors impact their aspirations of to ascend to the community college presidency. The findings of the research indicate that affecting change, being asked, and the desire to help are personal factors of influence that motivate executive-level leaders to seek the role of community college president. On the other hand, age, family, and potential work-life imbalance might dissuade executive-level leaders from seeking this role. The study reveals that organizational culture (the “culture of caring”) and leadership development are positive factors of institutional influence. Institutional factors that dissuade executive-level leaders from seeking the community college presidency are politics, the state of the institution being led, and the unknown. This study advances the field of educational leadership in that a number of personal and institutional factors are adduced that influence the aspirations of executive-level leaders to progress to the community college presidency. The findings identify the need for research across multiple institutions and the need to expand Social Cognitive Career Theory to include personal-cognitive barriers of race and gender.

The main focus of this thesis is on evaluating the reform programme of the Advanced level curriculum for 16-19 year olds, entitled Qualifyingfor Success (QFS), which was introduced into schools and colleges in England in September 2000. Chapter 1 of this thesis explores some of the main influences on the development of postcompulsory education and training between 1973 and 2000. The chapter (1) summarises the major societal and economic influences that led to the transformation of the labour market and current social practices; (2) analyses reforms to the post-compulsory curriculum in order to establish which education reforms over the last thirty years in England have contributed to mass participation in post compulsory education and training, higher achievement rates and increased entry to Higher Education; (3) explores the linkages between post-compulsory education reform and modifications in labour market trends; (4) examines the influences that led to the reform and diversification of the Advanced level curriculum; and (5) addresses the issue of why there is still a significant minority of young people who are not included in the new trajectory of lifelong learning for all. The Curriculum 2000 reforms promoted a radical restructuring of the Advanced level post-compulsory curriculum. In order to evaluate the reform process, this thesis gathered data from a three year longitudinal study by tracking a group of students through their experiences of post-compulsory education and through interviewing senior managers at the different stages of the policy implementation. Chapter 3 of this thesis analyses whether the Advanced level curriculum had been broadened by considering a variety of mechanisms: the use of AS levels, the inclusion of General Studies and other enrichment activities and the incorporation of Key Skills. This chapter concludes by acknowledging that the Curriculum 2000 reform programme contributed to a certain broadening of the Advanced level curriculum but not as much as had been envisaged. The second data analysis chapter, Chapter 4, provides an analysis of the complex transitions from education to work made by a group of young people in East Sussex. The chapter begins by outlining theoretical approaches to youth transitions. This is followed by a review of the literature relating to the inclusion of student voice within educationalresearch in order to provide a context for my decision to place emphasis on the young peoples' own perspective on this transitional period of their lives. The later sections of the chapter analyse the multitude of factors which can contribute to shaping young peoples' career choices. These include; (1) gender differences in qualification achievement and; (2) the effects this can have on occupational choice; (3) how the experience of a broader Advanced level curriculum can affect post-compulsory subject choices and subsequent career decisions and; (4) the role of part-time paid work. A key underlying theme within this chapter is the emphasis given to agency in the students' career decision making and, in conclusion, I suggest that many of the students make pragmatically rational decisions when faced with choices in post-compulsory education

This study explores the aspirations and learning Identities of three groups of Level 1 students In the English Further Education (FE) system. This group have historically been neglected in terms of academic study and research, but despite this have been heavily problematised as'disengaged' or "disaffected' and are regarded as being of low value within both the education system and wider society where value and status are associated predominantly with academic credentials and their associated economic capacity. As part of an attempt to address this issue of low value, the study was conducted within a social justice theoretical framework using a case study approach which was developed over time to facilitate an inclusive research methodology which demonstrated value and respect for the student participants. A range of methods was used, including group interviews, classroom observation and the collection of 'incidental' data such as coursework contributed by students. The study found that despite expressing a verbal 'buy in'to learning, for these students learning identities formed only a small, and often relatively unimportant, part of overall identity formation. Their aspirations were high but, constrained by societal structures, and unaware of the educational pathways and credentials necessary to achieve their occupational ambitions most used their agency to develop identities and acquire economic capital outside the field of education. It concludes that these are key factors in the fact that most of these young people drift into low skill, low paid employment, maintaining a status quo in terms of social class structures.

Магистерская диссертация состоит из введения, двух глав, заключения, списка литературы (60 источников) и приложения, включающего в себя статистические данные по используемым методикам. Объем магистерской диссертации 75 страниц, на которых размещены 4 рисунка и 12 таблиц. Во введении раскрывается актуальность проблемы исследования, разработанность проблематики, ставятся цель и задачи исследования, определяются объект и предмет исследования, формулируются основная и дополнительные гипотезы, указываются методы и эмпирическая база, а также этапы проведения исследования, научная новизна, теоретическая и практическая значимость работы. Первая глава включает в себя обзор иностранной и отечественной литературы по теме самоактуализации личности. Проанализирована характеристика самоактуализирующейся личности по подходам разных авторов и проведена связь с уровнем притязаний. Выводы по первой главе представляют собой итоги по изучению теоретического материала. Вторая глава посвящена эмпирической части исследования. В ней представлено описание организации и методов проведенного исследования и результатов, полученных по всем использованным методикам: Самоактуализационный тест Э. Шостром в адаптации Ю.Е. Алешина, Л.Я. Гозман, М.В. Загика, М.В. Кроз, Оценка уровня притязаний, разработанный В. Гербечевским, тест Пирамида потребностей А. Маслоу. Также в главе представлен сравнительный и корреляционный анализ результатов исследования. Выводы по главе 2 включают в себя основные результаты эмпирического исследования. В заключении в обобщенном виде изложены результаты теоретической и эмпирической частей работы, а также выводы по выдвинутым гипотезам, обоснована практическая значимость исследования.
The object of the research is self-actualization. The subject of the research is the features of self-actualization of young people with different levels of aspirations. The master's thesis consists of an introduction, two chapters, a conclusion, a list of references (60 sources) and an appendix that includes statistical data on the methods used. The volume of the master's thesis is 75 pages, which contain 4 figures and 12 tables. The introduction reveals the relevance of the research problem, the elaboration of the problematics, the goal and objectives of the research are set, the object and subject of the research are determined, the main and additional hypotheses are formulated, the methods and empirical base are indicated, as well as the stages of the research, scientific novelty, theoretical and practical significance of the work. The first chapter includes a review of foreign and domestic literature on the topic of personality self-actualization. The characteristics of a self-actualizing personality are analyzed according to the approaches of different authors and a connection is made with the level of aspirations. Conclusions for the first chapter represent the results of the study of theoretical material. The second chapter is devoted to the empirical part of the study. It contains a description of the organization and methods of the study and the results obtained by all the methods used: Self-actualization test by E. Shostrom as adapted by Yu.E. Aleshina, L. Ya. Gozman, M.V. Zagika, M.V. Croz, Assessment of the level of claims, developed by V. Gerbechevsky, A. Maslow's Pyramid of Needs test. The chapter also presents a comparative and correlation analysis of the research results. Conclusions from Chapter 2 include the main findings of the empirical study. The conclusion summarizes the results of the theoretical and empirical parts of the work, as well as conclusions on the hypotheses put forward, substantiates the practical significance of the study.

This study was conducted to determine the significant factors that affected career aspirations for high school seniors in a suburban school. It also analyzed differences in females' and minorities' college plans, diploma type, and changes in career aspirations from 1986 to 1996. The research design was a causal comparative statistical analysis replicating a 1986 study at the same school. In-depth investigations into female and minority aspirations were also expanded in this 1996 study. The population (N = 577) was 81% Caucasian, 9.5% Asian, 4.5% African American, 4% Hispanic and 1% American Indian. A preliminary survey established the ratings of the occupations based on societal prestige. Data on career aspiration, ethnicity, gender, parents' education, grade-point average, diploma type and college plans were collected from the seniors using the Harrington-O'Shea career cluster form and two other surveys. The researcher operationally defined student aspiration levels by assigning the mean occupational rank from the preliminary survey to each student's choice of career. The seniors' aspiration data were analyzed using Chi-square Tests of Association, One-Way Analyses of Variance, Pearson Correlation and Scheffe comparisons. There was a significant correlation between the 1996 seniors' career aspirations and two variables: grade-point average (p=.000) and fathers' education (p=.003). There was a significant relationship between the female seniors' career aspiration and their graduation years, 1986 and 1996 (p=.000); the 1996 females had higher career aspirations. Both the 1996 female and minority seniors achieved significantly higher percentages of Advanced Studies Diplomas with the Governor's seal (p=.000) and significantly higher percentages of aspirations for college (p=.000) than their 1986 peers. Another important finding was that the means of female seniors' career aspirations were just as high as their 1996 male counterparts; this was not true in 1986. Also, the 1996 minority seniors had slightly higher career aspiration means than their Caucasian peers. This study suggests that educators can reflect on what has been done during the last decade to empower females and minorities. It also challenges educators to continue to seek better curriculum and career opportunity programs to overcome the institutional sexism and racism that may interfere with students' aspirations.

How do organizations assess and explain their performance? Prior studies have attempted to demonstrate that, like individuals, organizations take credit for good performance and blame poor performance on influences in their environment. However, these studies have found only a weak relationship between performance and attribution at the level of the firm. This dissertation seeks to elucidate this relationship by conceptualizing firms as social agents and by combining aspiration and attribution theory for the first time at the level of the firm. Analysis of performance explanations by large, public manufacturing firms in 2004 and 2005 revealed that firms' performance explanations correlated with their cognitive experiences of success and failure. These findings further understanding of organizational cognition, attribution, and image management.

This Master thesis deals with low-current measurement in order of picoamps up to a few tens of femtoamps. Such low currents measuring is necessary for determination of air ions concentration. Disturbances, which are otherwise negligible for ordinary measurements must be considered. For example, leakage currents and noise generated in measuring device circuit. The choice of a precise operation amplifier with low input bias current is as important as the selection of low noise passive components. The aim of the thesis is to design and implement a precise low-level amplifier for the purposes of air ions concentration measurements.

The World Bank asserts that South Africa is one of the most unequal countries in the world (Government report, 2015). In particular, females are still being treated unfairly even though the government has put policies, such as employment equity, in place. As this inequality increases, so does female graduate unemployment (StatsSA, 2016). This is only one of the barriers that exit level female students face. Against this background, this study explored exit level female humanities students’ career aspirations and attainment strategies. This study focused on the application of Schlossberg’s (1981) Transition theory to exit level female students’ anticipated transition into the world of work. A qualitative research design within an interpretive paradigm was used. The sample consisted of eight third year participants from the humanities faculty, specifically studying psychology at the University of the Witwatersrand. Thematic content analysis was used. The results obtained indicate that due to the economic instability in South Africa, the main career aspirations encompassed factors such as completing one’s degree and obtaining employment. Furthermore, Schlossberg’s model provided insight into the various perceived barriers and enablers to help students cope and achieve the anticipated transition into the job market. Some of these perceived barriers were issues related to gender and concurrent stressors such as workload and approaching exams. However, the participants also demonstrated enablers that could help the students cope, such as a positive self-belief and various support structures for example; parents and friends. Additionally, the participants reflected on the job strategies that they would utilise in order to find a job, the most frequent being networking. The purpose of the study was to investigate gender differences in educational and occupational aspirations, and commitment to work and to home and family of adolescents. Attempts were made to identify factors that are associated with the levels of aspirations. The factors considered were family SES, parents' educational level, grade-point average, and commitment to working, studying, home and family, community services, and leisure. Comparisons were made regarding the number of same-gender-dominated, opposite-gender, and balanced-gender occupations selected by the males and females. The 208 Grade 11 and 12 students, selected from four Vancouver Schools, completed a questionnaire that included: personal information (sex, age, grade, and grade-point average); family background (education and employment information of parents/guardians); adolescent's future plans (educational and occupational aspirations). Subjects also completed the commitment scale of the Salience Inventory to determine their commitment to work, home and family, studying, leisure, and community service. T-tests, step-wise multiple regression, and chi-square analyses were conducted on the data. At the p < .05 level, no statistically significant gender-based differences were found between the level of educational or occupational aspirations, or commitment to work or to home and family. The regression analysis indicated that grade-point average, commitment to studying, family SES level, and commitment to work were predictive males' educational aspirations; grade-point average, commitment to studying, and father's educational level were predictive of females' educational aspirations; family SES level and commitment to studying were predictive of males' occupational aspirations; and grade-point average, father's educational level, and commitment to studying were predictive of females' occupational aspirations. The chi-square analysis indicated there was a significant relationship between a subject's gender and the percent of women in the aspired to occupation. The results of this study indicated that there are not significant gender differences in the levels of educational and occupational aspirations of adolescents. However, different factors were seen to predict the levels of educational and occupational aspirations of adolescent males and females. The results also showed that although females are beginning to select non-traditional occupations, males still select mainly traditional occupations.

Abstract There were three subjects in the research :The first is the one’s own side or opponents’ best alternative to a negotiated agreement (BATNA) alternative or both have (BATNA) situations. The second is buyers and sellers’ the aspirating levels of trade effect upon offer and counteroffer. The third is the result of using the price framing to strengthen one’s own sides’ offer effect upon counteroffer and the degree of aspirating trade in the process of counteroffer. The research method is experiment design. Application situation design included experiment design which showed in a pair of questionnaire with buyer and seller. The research findings are:1、Sellers will have higher offer when offer strategies include one’s own side BATNA and buyers will be have higher offer when offer strategies include opponent BATNA. 2、Sellers and buyers will have lower offer when offer strategies include the two parties BATNA. 3、They will face larger adjusting for counteroffer from opponent when sellers had higher offer and buyers had lower offer. 4、Buyer will adjust counteroffer to higher level after sellers strengthen one’s own side offer and seller will adjust counteroffer to lower level after buyers strengthen one’s own sides offer. 5、The degree of aspirating trade with buyer side and seller side had not significant effect in offer and counteroffer. The result indicated that price negotiation should not be limit in price, use correlate factors to strengthen offer will be have a optimal contract for buyers and sellers.

Methods: The thesis used qualitative methods of research and psychological testing. The qualitative methods used were testing, observation and research. Psychological testing was in the form of TATSO test. The thesis deals with the issue of singletons. Its main question is directed to the childhood of singletons and its importance for the whole life of a human. It wonders whether the childhood of singletons affects humans in adulthood, or in which areas and which way. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and part of the research. In the first part basic terms are defined which constitute the basis for the second part of the work. The research part of the work is more extensive and forms the core of the thesis. It is a qualitative research. Biographical design, specifically the realistic biography, has been used as the most appropriate research plan. First, three interviews were made and processed - depth probes of the respondents who grew up as the singletons. The analysis of the probes divided the interview into three stages: childhood upbringing, the upbringing of their own children and self-education. After processing the individual parts of the research, the final synthesis revealed that the childhood of the respondents and the fact of being an only child had a significant impact on their overall life. Die doel van hierdie ondersoek was om te bepaal watler faktore die grootste bydrae tot sportprestasie lewer. Met die literatuurstudie is die verskillende faktore wat sportprestasie beinvloed, geidentifiseer en verder ondersoek en beskryf. Daar is gevind dat 'n wye verskeidenheid faktore bestaan wat atletelsportdeelnemers se prestasie positief of negatief kan beinvloed. 'n Empiriese ondersoek is uitgevoer waarby 'n aantal atlete/sportdeelnemers, wat aan verskeie sportsoorte deelneem, betrek is. Die afrigters van hierdie atlete/sportdeelnemers is oak by die ondersoek betrek. Eerstens is bepaal watter faktore, volgens die atlete/sportdeelnemers, die grootste bydrae tot hul sportprestasie lewer. Daama is hierdie geidenlifiseerde faktore aan 'n regressieanalise onderwerp om te bepaal walter faktor/e die grootste en belangrikste bydrae tot sportprestasie lewer. Die resultate het getoon dat hierdie faktore soos volg is: motivering, afrigter, kommunikasie, selfvertroue, aanleg en dieet
The purpose of this study was to determine which factors contribute significantly to sports achievement. In the literature study, different factors with an underlying effect on sports achievement were identified, explained and further investigated. A wide variety of factors bearing positive as well as negative effect on athletes'/sport participants' achievement were found. An empirical study was carried out in which a number of athletes/sport participators were involved. The coaches of these athletes/sport participants were also included. The factors that play a major contributing role in these athletes/sport participants' sports achievement were primarily determined. Thereafter the identified factors were further investigated through the use of a regression analysis to ascertain which ones contribute the most to sports achievement. The results indicated that these factors are as follows: motivation, coach, communication, self-confidence, talent and diet.
