In The White Company (1891) and Sir Nigel (1906), Arthur Conan Doyle reconstructed the fourteenth century and explored the culture and visions of chivalry. He created many different knights with the intention of dissecting the mind and conduct of this historical type. He was concerned with his human as well as his romantic aspect, and he addressed the conflicts the divergent obligations of external duty and personal aspirations caused. Doyle’s reflections focused on the dreadful and illusory game played by knights like Sir Nigel Loring, the most curious and significant representative of idealistic and delusional chivalry in his medieval fiction. His youth and adult age show the tensions between the two worlds whose paths he must tread. His life is a long struggle for virtue and honour, oscillating between the responsibilities of a nobleman in the days of Edward III and the Hundred Years War and the pursuit of chivalry.

In his acclaimed synthesis of the Mexican Revolution of 1910, Alan Knight observed that “the social bandit's career in Academe has somewhat paralleled his life under the greenwood tree. Introduced by Professor Hobsbawm, he was initially welcomed, even feted, and he put in many appearances in academic company; but then (inevitably, after such uncritical acceptance) some academics grew leery, and the recent trend-especially among experts—has been to qualify, de-emphasise and even deny his role.”

Craig Knight, Asia Pacific Digital Business and Customer Services Manager of Eastman Chemical Company, was given a mandate to sell Eastman's philosophy for an integrated electronic supply chain, otherwise known as the Integrated System Solution (ISS), to its business partners in the region, and to encourage adoption. Having invested in a state-of-the-art technical architecture that would support interconnectivity with all parties along the supply chain, Eastman was keen to realise the full benefits to be gained from an integrated e-supply chain on a global scale. Following numerous rounds of discussion with key business partners in the Asia Pacific region, some progress had been made. Nagase & Co., Ltd. of Japan had agreed to adopt ISS connections with Eastman, but had some reservations regarding the extent of integration. Although the benefits of integration were proven, suppliers, customers, distributors and other interested parties were faced with numerous limitations and considerations that would have significant implications on their established business processes and even the shaping of their corporate strategy. Adoption was not a simple choice. Craig understood these shortcomings and was making every effort to ease the adoption process by identifying the longer-term benefits to Nagase and other business partners of applying XML technology to their businesses.

Annotation:
The Thirteenth Company Law Directive (“the Directive”) seeks to create a level playing field within the Community so as to allow EU companies to freely establish themselves in the EU through the acquisition of control over EU listed companies. In this context, the Directive prohibits the board of the target company from taking any action that could result in the frustration of the bid without express shareholder consent (the neutrality rule). Nevertheless, the Directive allows the board of the target company to seek a competitive bidder (a white knight) to ward off a public bid. The Directive requires Member States to provide for legislation on competing bids. The question may be raised whether the discretion left to Member States in this regard will not bring into jeopardy the objectives of the Directive. The answer to this question is complex, more particularly in the light of the opt-outs that are incorporated in the Directive. As the Directive does not provide for a comprehensive harmonization, the article discusses to what extent the powers of Member States and the freedom of EU companies in the field of takeover law are affected by primary Community law. Finally the authors look at the remedies which are available for shareholders or bidders suffering a prejudice as a result of a corporate decision (in particular with respect to a competing bid) that complies with the national rules on takeover bids but is contrary to the Directive or the EC Treaty.

I first met George Mosse in late August 1967. That summer I carried my worn copy of his book on the roots of Nazi ideology, The Crisis of German Ideology: Intellectual Origins of the Third Reich (1964), with Hubert Lanzinger's bizarre painting of Hider as a German knight on the cover, to Salzburg where I studied German before going on to graduate school at the University of Wisconsin. Though I admired the book, it did not prepare me for meeting the man. In 1967 I drove out to the Midwest from New York in my VW bug. To my surprise, as soon as I arrived in Madison, someone pointed him out, sitting on the Terrace of the Wisconsin Memorial Union in his short sleeve shirt, smoking his pipe, and arguing intensely with a group of students who were planning to sit in to block the Dow Chemical Company campus recruiter in the Fall (Dow was chosen because the company was manufacturing napalm).

Marketing can be very profitable for a company and the success of well-known companies is often accompanied by a successful marketing strategy. Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight founded the largest sportswear firm in the world, Nike, under the name Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964. The company changed its name to Nike in 1971, and as the industry leader, it ascended to become one of the top sports brands in the world, with revenues far exceeding those of its competitors and a market share of 38.23% of the entire industry, and is widely recognised in the sports industry for its strong marketing capabilities. It has positioned itself as an active brand with people's aspirations, comfort and national values in mind and has achieved great success worldwide. In this paper, authors will use Nike as case study and conduct an in-depth analysis of the marketing strategies used by Nike personalised customization, content marketing, social media, and hungry marketing. Combined with a comprehensive analysis of relevant literature and market data, consumer demand for unique, bespoke, personalised experiences can be met by personalisation, increasing customer loyalty and generating more business for the company. Content marketing builds consumer awareness and loyalty through the creation of engaging content and effectively communicates brand image and values. The rise of social media has provided consumers with an avenue to identify product needs and reference the buying behaviour of others, while helping to build brand awareness and positive emotional communication. Hunger marketing creates higher brand value and consumer demand through scarcity and limited sales strategies, further enhancing Nikes uniqueness and price premium. The author also uses the current emerging sports brands lululemon and lining as references and uses the successful development strategies of these two brands to provide effective marketing suggestions for Nike.

Batik was one of Indonesia's cultural heritages that had been recognized worldwide. Batik in Indonesia was diverse in terms of products and producing regions. One of the Batik-producing areas in Indonesia was Masaran in Sragen Regency. Batik producers in Kliwonan had their business names complete with logos as trademarks. One form of this was using names and images of wayang characters in trademarks, which had been done for a long time. This study analyzed four Batik company logos in Kliwonan Village, Masaran District, Sragen Regency, which were found using images of puppet figures, namely Janoko Kembar Batik, Sadewa Batik, Dewi Brotojoyo Batik, and Dewa Rama Batik. The research phase begins with data collection in the form of visual logos and literature related to the meaning of puppet figures. Data analysis is carried out by identifying the visual elements of the logo, including colors, illustrative images, typography, and layout as the first sign system (denotation). The denotational data is then read using a second sign system (connotation), which involves analyzing the characters of the puppet characters. The character of the puppet character that is understood is then discussed in a cultural context (myth). Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis is used to describe signs through first-order meaning (denotative), second-order meaning (connotative), and interpretation of meaning in cultural contexts (myth) The reading of the logo sign system was confirmed by interviews with the Batik entrepreneurs. The research results described the system of signs in denotation, connotation, and mythical meaning in the logos studied, which was in line with the application of visual elements and design principles. This research concluded that wayang could be used to discover self-identity for brand owners. The visual formation of brand identity in this study occurs through the selection of illustrations of images, colors, typography, and personal layout by brand owners. Illustrations of puppet characters are selected from the types of knights and princesses that give good character meaning. The selection of knight and princess characters can be a logo design model that uses puppet characters.

Neo-Victorian fiction has been concerned with historically oppressed and traumatised characters from the 1990s onwards (Llewellyn 2008). More recently, neo-Victorianism on screen has shifted its attention to the figure of the perpetrator and their unresolved guilt, as in the TV series Penny Dreadful (Logan 2014-2016) or Taboo (Knight, Hardy and Hardy 2017-present). However, perpetrator trauma is an under-theorised field in the humanities (Morag 2018), neo-Victorian studies included. This article analyses Taboo as a neo-Victorian postcolonial text that explores the trauma of its protagonist James Delaney, an imperial perpetrator who transported and sold African slaves in the Middle Passage for the East India Company. Although the series is not set in the Victorian period, neo-Victorianism is here understood as fiction expanding beyond the historical boundaries of the Victorian era and that presents the long nineteenth century as synonymous with the empire (Ho 2012: 4). Thus, I argue that postcolonial texts like Taboo should be considered neo-Victorian since they are set in the nineteenth century to respond to and contest (neo-)imperial practices. However, neo-Victorian postcolonialism offers ambivalent representations of the British Empire, as it simultaneously critiques and reproduces its ideologies (Ho 2012; Primorac 2018). This article examines the ways in which Taboo follows this contradictory pattern, since it seemingly denounces the imperial atrocity of the slave trade through Delaney’s perpetrator trauma, while simultaneously perpetuating it through his future colonizing trip to the Americas. Hence, Delaney is portrayed as an anti-hero in the series, given that he is both the enemy and the very product of the British Empire.

The 1674 Inventory the Belongings Left by Przemyśl Pantler Jerzy Wołodyjowski The register of things left by Przemyśl Pantler (Steward) Jerzy Wołodyjowski, who was a model for Sienkiewicz’s “Small Knight” – the defender of Kamieniec Podolski in 1672 – can be found in the Grabowiec municipal records, which are kept in the State Archives in Lublin. The article presents the tradition connected with the legend of Colonel Wołodyjowski, basic facts from his life, and the circumstances of the compilation of the posthumous inventory used during the lawsuit against persons who illegally seized the real estates of the deceased. The author of the article concludes that the real Wołodyjowski resembled his literary, Sienkiewicz-created image only in some respects. He was indeed an excellent soldier and was killed in Kamieniec Podolski (like Michał Wołodyjowski, his book counterpart) but his death was an accidental one. He also was a colonel but he was not in charge of the Lauda cavalry company. He had probably never been to Lithuania, where this ethnographic-historical region Lauda (Liaude) was situated. The article contains the edition of the inventory made after the death of Jerzy Wołodyjowski.

_ Early January brought with it significant changes in the environmental side of the oil and gas industry. ExxonMobil and Chevron, the two largest US oil producers, announced they will exit California, and the Biden administration froze LNG export approvals. After 50 years of producing oil in California, ExxonMobil will take a $2.5 billion writedown of the value of some of its California properties to be recorded in its fourth-quarter earnings. The company said the decision is primarily related to its Santa Ynez operations off the coast of Santa Barbara. Its US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing said, “While the Corporation is progressing efforts to enable a restart of production, continuing challenges in the state regulatory environment have impeded progress in restoring operations.” After the Refugio oil spill in May 2015 (approximately 100,000 gal), resulting from a leak from a pipeline owned by Plains All American Pipeline, ExxonMobil acquired the damaged asset in October 2015. Just a few months before the purchase, the Santa Barbara County Board denied ExxonMobil’s request to truck its oil produced off the coast of Gaviota to its Las Flores Canyon processing facility and on to refiners located in Pentland, California. Seeking an alternative, ExxonMobil planned to replace two stretches of the 112-mile corroded pipeline for transit of its oil. Met with opposition to replace the damaged pipeline and denied permission to repair and restart production at the site (halted since 2015), ExxonMobil is now selling the Santa Ynez operation to Sable Offshore, a blank-check company created in 2020. The company will loan Sable the money for the purchase of its three offshore production platforms, pipeline, and onshore processing facility. Sable’s agreement with ExxonMobil requires production to be started by early 2026 or the assets and liabilities revert to ExxonMobil. Chevron, headquartered in San Ramon, California, will write down $3.5 billion to $4 billion in assets, citing its home state’s regulations that “have resulted in lower anticipated future investment levels.” The company intends to continue operating its oil fields and related assets. In the SEC filing, Chevron wrote it also will incur fourth-quarter charges related to decommissioning of US Gulf of Mexico assets that have reached the end of their productive lives. The company sold some of those assets, but US law stipulates that previous owners may be responsible for those costs if the current owner declares bankruptcy. Chevron wrote it’s “probable” that it may see such costs. January closed with another unexpected announcement on 26 January. The Biden administration paused decisions on permits to export LNG to non-free trade agreement countries to review current projects seeking approvals. US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm stated, “We must review export applications using the most comprehensive, up-to-date analysis of the economic, environmental, and national security considerations.” She added that this was not a ban on exports and would not affect already authorized exports, which when combined with existing plants, total 48 Bcf/D. “Within this decade another 12 Bcf/D of US export capacity already authorized and under construction will come online,” Granholm said. While environmental impact (greenhouse gas emissions including CO2 and methane) was one of the reasons for the decision, along with market, economic, national security, and energy security, Granholm pointed out that facilities totaling 22 Bcf/D of capacity have been approved but have not yet started construction. This capacity, combined with existing infrastructure, is “more than enough to make the US a ‘behemoth’ in the LNG field,” according to Holland & Knight in an analysis dated 29 January. The international law firm said this raises the question of whether further development of LNG facilities could hurt US citizens as higher percentages of produced gas are exported. “This line of thinking follows the historical rhetoric on this issue as domestic users of natural gas want to ensure their feedstock price is stable. To support those claims, recent studies have concluded that ‘higher LNG exports create a tighter domestic natural gas market (all else held equal), increasing domestic natural gas prices.’” Could unintended consequences of these recent announcements rear up in the future? And could they be a behemoth for the US or global markets? For Further Reading Growth in 2022 US LNG Liquefaction Capacity Hits Top of the Charts by Pat Davis Szymczak, SPE Oil and Gas Facilities.

The article presents evidence that historically the emergence of intellectual property rights dates back to the pre-industrial stage of society’s development. The issuing of letters patent in England led to further development of intangible assets worldwide. The study considers chronologically social and economic development concepts which have been researched in academic papers of prominent scholars, namely, A. Smith, F. List, Knight, F. Machlup, W. Rostow, J. Galbraith, D. Bell, P. Drucker, and then highlights the key aspects that have affected the evolution of intangible assets. Thus, on the basis of reviewing the concepts developed by outstanding scholars, it is pointed out that the growth of intangible assets has been driven by knowledge and that a post-industrial society is based on unprecedented technological breakthroughs. Special reference is made to information viewed as the key production resource of a post-industrial society, whereas knowledge is seen as its internal source of progress. In a post-industrial society, people are regarded as capital. The essential importance and role of intellectual capital in company operations are embodied in professional and managerial skills of personnel. As shown in the article, there are not only research development concepts, but also normative documents, such as the Bulletin entitled «Amortization of intangible assets», in which intangible assets are identified as accounting items. Furthermore, the international system of intellectual property protection has been enhanced by the introduction of Paris and Berne Conventions. The paper also describes how the concept of intangible assets, which appeared in Ukraine’s legislation in 1993, is seen in the national legal system, specifically as intellectual property objects including industrial property and other items of property and use. With the introduction of Ukrainian Accounting Standards (UAS) 8 into the national legislation, it was firstly emphasized that intangible assets are non-monetary assets that, on the one hand, are non-material and, on the other hand, can be identified. The article also stresses that today’s society is passing a new stage of post-industrial development, which is accompanied not only by a rapid growth of service industries, science and education, but also by a significant increase of specialized knowledge in various fields. Finally, the need for further research of intangible assets is identified, since intangibles have a great impact on enterprise value and the competitiveness of the national economy as a whole.

Tadeusz Maringe został odznaczony Orderem Virtuti Militari V klasy. Po zakończeniu wojny powrócił do Smoliny. 10 lipca 1921 r. witał tam przybywającego z wizytą Józefa Piłsudskiego. Działał aktywnie w Związku Ziemian. Niestety niektóre inwestycje okazały się nietrafione. Tadeusz Maringe musiał sprzedać część dóbr rodzinnych i zaczął pracować w różnych majątkach ziemskich, a później prowadził firmę nasienną w Warszawie. Tadeusz Maringe - Landowner from Smolina, Knight of the Order of Virtuti Militari The article presents the biography of Tadeusz Maringe, a landowner from Smolina, a mechanical engineer graduated from the University of London. He belonged to the generation which strove to modernise agricultural holdings, and even tried to work in the industry. After his graduation, he worked in the ‘Wilhelm Fitzner and Konrad Gamper’ factory in Sosnowiec until the outbreak of the First World War. He was an example of a Polish patriot. During the Polish-Soviet War, he volunteered to the 1st squadron of the 203rd Uhlan Regiment. He demonstrated his heroism during a patrol in the vicinity of Kostopol. In a daring way, in front of his entire unit, he took a prisoner of war, who could later be interrogated. The information he gained was used by the Poles to quickly take over Kostopol. Tadeusz Maringe was awarded the Order of Virtuti Militari (Class V). After the war, he returned to Smolina. On 10 July 1921, he welcomed Józef Piłsudski who paid a visit there. Maringe was actively involved in the Landowners’ Union. Unfortunately, some of his investments turned out to be unsuccessful. He had to sell part of his family property and began working in various estates. Later, he ran a seed company in Warsaw. During the Second World War, he and his closest family members became involved in the resistance movement. After the end of the war, he opened - together with several partners - Dom Rolniczo-Handlowy ‘Wspólna Praca’ (‘Joint Labour’ Farming and Trading House). This enterprise cooperated with Państwowe Nieruchomości Ziemskie (State-Owned Land Management Agency) - a company run by his brother, Witold Maringe. In 1949, the communists arrested the management of Państwowe Nieruchomości Ziemskie. Due to the actions of the communist regime, Tadeusz Maringe had to liquidate Dom Rolniczo-Handlowy ‘Wspólna Praca’. After the show trial against his brother, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, his health deteriorated. He died in 1952.

The legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table are preeminent in medieval lore, as literary history celebrates these valiant knights on their illustrious quests; these crusades, however, were very often affected, or even entirely motived, by love, lust, or a damsel in distress. What of those women whom these knights loved and lost, or feared and fought? A distinctly male presence remains the primary focus of medieval literature; my work aims to explore how the dynamic of these medieval texts is influenced and motivated by the consequences of female endeavours, in terms of an autonomous feminine presence in the narrative world, and the authority with which this is presented. My focus lies primarily with an exploration of this female form in Sir Thomas Malory’s Morte Darthur, a fifteenth-century text which presents the Arthurian world governed by the king and his renowned company of knights, based on ...

Abstract Background Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the U.S. DLBCL can be subdivided into the activated B-cell-like (ABC) and germinal center B-cell-like (GCB) subgroups on the basis of gene expression profiling results. ABC-DLBCL is characterized by the constitutive activation of nuclear factor-κB (NFκB) transcription factor and high expression level of its target genes, including pro-survival BCL2 family members, cell cycles proteins, and chemokines. We and others have demonstrated that pevonedistat (MLN4924), an inhibitor of the NEDD8-activating enzyme, abrogates NFκB activity in DLBCL cell lines and primary chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells. Pevonedistat has been shown to sensitize solid tumor cell lines to extrinsic apoptosis. Here we demonstrate that pevonedistat sensitizes ABC-DLBCL cells to death receptor agonists. By contrast, GCB-DLBCL and primary CLL cells are not sensitive to this combination. Methods We employed a panel of ABC- (OCI-LY3, U2932) and GCB-DLBCL (SUDHL6, SUDHL10, VAL) cell lines. CLL B-cells were obtained from patients in the hematology clinics at the Knight Cancer Institute and were subjected to in vitro co-cultures with CD40L-expressing stroma which we have previously shown to activate NFκB and thereby mimic the lymph node microenvironment. We used the Fas agonists Apo-1-L, CH-11 and SuperFasLigand as well as KillerTRAIL. Pevonedistat was provided by Millennium Pharmaceuticals Inc., a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited. Results Either Fas or TRAIL agonists, as well as 0.5 µM pevonedistat alone induced modest apoptosis of ABC-DLBCL cells (<10%) upon a 24 hour incubation. Meanwhile, pre-treatment of OCI-LY3 cells with 0.5 µM pevonedistat overnight resulted in apoptosis of 72.6±6.2% cells following exposure to 100 ng/mL KillerTrail and 79.6±7.5% - 10 ng/mL SuperFasLigand (p<0.0001 compared with either agent alone). Similar findings were observed in U2932 cells. By contrast, pevonedistat had a minimal effect on death receptor ligand-mediated apoptosis in the GCB-DLBCL cell lines. Using immunoprecipitation, we confirmed that Fas engagement led to rapid assembly of the death-inducing signaling complex in OCI-LY3 cells (within 2 hours). This was accompanied by activation of caspase-8, as manifested by generation of its active forms (p41/43). Pre-treatment with pevonedistat promoted sustained and prolonged Fas-mediated cleavage of caspase-8 (for 6 hours, as opposed to transient cleavage following isolated Fas stimulation), accompanied by caspase-mediated PARP processing. We found that pevonedistat treatment downmodulated the transcript and protein levels of cFLIP in OCI-LY3 cells, an antagonistic caspase-8 homolog, whose expression is highly dependent on NFκB transcriptional activity. This is consistent with earlier findings where abrogation of NF-κB transcriptional activity was the dominant event preceding pevodinestat-induced apoptosis in ABC-DLBCL cells. By contrast, in GCB-DLBCL cells, targeting neddylation resulted in accumulation of Cdt1, DNA re-replication and cell cycle arrest. Thus, preferential sensitivity of ABC-DLBCL to death receptor ligands in combination with pevonedistat may be dependent on the effects of the latter on NFκB signaling and cFLIP. We previously reported that, like in ABC-DLBCL, pevonedistat abrogates NFκB in CD40-stimulated primary CLL cells. We found that CD40 upregulated Fas and TRAIL receptors, as well as cFLIP, in CLL cells. While treatment with pevonedistat downregulated cFLIP in CLL cells, it did not sensitize CLL cells to Fas or TRAIL; caspase-8 cleavage and Bid processing were not induced. Conversely, neutralizing antibodies against TNFα and TRAIL-R1/2 did not modulate the pro-apoptotic activity of pevonedistat in CLL. Hence, distinct from observations in normal monocytes, pevonedistat did not enhance death receptor-mediated apoptosis, consistent with previous reports indicating that such signaling is dysfunctional in CLL cells. Conclusions Here we demonstrate that pevonedistat sensitizes ABC-DLBCL cells to death receptor agonists by a mechanism which includes downmodulation of cFLIP. Our data provide rationale for further development of pharmacologic agents including pevonedistat in strategies which enhance death receptor signaling in lymphoid malignancies. This paper deals with Smith's, highly complex, early ‘career paths’ to 1820. His first employment was as (1) a land surveyor. Then in 1793 he became both (2) canal surveyor, and (3) engineer, to the Somerset Coal Canal Company (SCCC). These now guaranteed him a regular income. But all suddenly changed, when he was successively dismissed, first as surveyor, then as engineer, in 1799. He had now to find other means of supporting himself, and publicising the important geological discoveries, he had made in Somerset. From the mid 1790s, Smith had there done (4) land drainage and irrigation work, for the chairman of the SCCC, and immediately after these dismissals. Smith was able to generate an adequate living from such West Country work, during a period of very high rainfall. This took him to Tytherton in Wiltshire. Here he first encountered a new rock unit (the Kellaways Rock) and here the Norfolk agriculturalist Thomas Coke was able to study Smith's new skills with water. News of his competence quickly passed throughout an agricultural community, then desperate to increase food production, during a long wartime period of crisis. Smith's methods of water drainage and irrigation work were now widely taken up, first by the Dukes of Manchester and Bedford, in Bedfordshire, and then by Coke and his relatives, both in Staffordshire and Norfolk, and then by Coke's many tenants in Norfolk. On top of this, Smith's skills as an engineer meant he was soon in high demand also as (5) a Sea Breach Engineer, in attempts to keep the German Ocean (now North Sea) out of The Broads. But Napoleonic war time conditions were harsh, and bills often not swiftly paid (or paid at all). So Smith tried new careers either as (6) a failed author, whether on Irrigation, or Norfolk or as (7) a consultant mineral surveyor—the field he had pioneered. Throughout much of this period, Smith's obsessive attempts to publish his geological discoveries, which needed considerable support for such a novel publication, were thwarted, by the bankruptcies of others, and proved futile, until 1815. This paper tries to survey, for a first time, Smith's complex, and fluctuating, financial situations, over the period 1793 to 1819 (when he entered a debtors' prison). His ‘knight in shining armour’ was undoubtedly the cartographer John Cary (1755–1835) who, in 1812, agreed to publish Smith's great ‘geological’ map. Thus only by “the enterprise of [this] private tradesman…, [what] had been in vain expected from princely patronage, and the sanction of national boards” was accomplished.

Abstract The NEXI-002 study is a prospective, multicenter, open-label phase 1/2 trial designed to characterize the safety, immunologic, and preliminary anti-myeloma activity of the NEXI-002 antigen specific CD8+ T cell product. Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable malignancy that occurs predominantly in older patients and is characterized by the growth of malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow. Despite substantial advances in therapy, virtually all patients relapse after treatment, emphasizing the unmet medical need for additional effective treatments. The NEXI-002 product is an autologous non-genetically engineered therapy of CD8+ T cells that recognize HLA 02.01-restricted peptides from the WT1, CD138, CS1, and NY-ESO-1 antigens. This T-cell product includes key memory phenotypes such as stem-like memory, central memory, and effector memory cells. Eligible patients have relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) who have received at least three prior lines of treatment that included at least an immunomodulatory agent, a proteasome inhibitor, and an anti-CD38 agent. Three patients were enrolled into the Safety Evaluation phase and received a single infusion of 80 million (M) to 100M cells of NEXI-002 product. In this phase of the study the primary endpoint is safety and secondary endpoints include expansion, persistence, and trafficking of the NEXI-002 cells. Bridging anti-MM treatment was permitted during the manufacture of the cellular product with a wash-out period of at least 14 days prior to lymphodepletion (LD) chemotherapy (intravenous fludarabine 30 mg/m 2 and cyclophosphamide 300 mg/m 2), which was administered on Days -5, -4, and -3 prior to the infusion of the NEXI-002 product up to 72 hours later (Day1). Treatment-related adverse events, including infusion reactions, events that prolong hospitalization post infusion, CRS, and neurotoxicity (ICANS) have not developed in these patients who received the NEXI-002 product. Lymphocyte recovery to baseline levels occurred within a few days after the infusion of the NEXI-002 product, demonstrating robust CD4 and CD8 T cell reconstitution following LD chemotherapy. NEXI-002 antigen specific T cells were detected in peripheral blood (PB) by multimer staining and proliferated over time and trafficked to the bone marrow (BM). The phenotype composition of detectable antigen specific T cells at both sites maintained that of the infused product. These NEXI-002 T cells persisted in PB and BM during follow-up. T-cell receptor (TCR) sequencing assays revealed T cell clones in the NEXI-002 product that were not detected in PB of patients tested at baseline. These clones subsequently expanded and persisted over time in the PB and BM. In conclusion, these results show that infusion of the NEXI-002 product is safe, well tolerated, and capable of generating a cell-mediated immune response that may lead to clinical activity. RNA Seq transcriptional profiling of the CD8+ T cells is planned. Additional patients have recently received NEXI-002 infusions and the trial will continue to be expanded to gain additional safety, immunologic, and clinical activity experience. Children’s engagement of imaginary worlds and events created when playing is thus a borderline phenomenon lying between game improvisation and artistic creation (the creation of texts, drawings, geographical maps and other artefacts associated with playful subjects and motifs). This kind of play is described in detail in the memoirs of the historian and literary scholar Nikolaj P. Antsiferov (1889–1958), which depict the realities and events of everyday life as a child growing up. In the second and especially in the third part of his memoirs Nikolaj Antsiferov describes in detail improvisational “playing at being knights”; this game harmoniously combined, for his friends and himself, certain historical events, fiction literature read by the company, and their own bright imagination. The fictional characters reflecting real historical and literary figures become especially dear to the players; biographies of such characters are developed thoroughly and logically with the help of historical and literature sources; the plots of the game remain in the memory of Nikolaj Antsiferov and his comrades in the game for a long time. We can assume that in the description of the playing at being knights we see the first manifestation of those individual creative and research features of Nikolaj Antsiferov, which later formed the basis of his scientific method.

To remain competitive, companies must continuously improve the processes at hand, be they administrative, production, or logistics. The objective of the study described in this paper was to develop a decision-making tool based on a simulation model to support the production of knits and damask fabrics. The tool was used to test different control strategies for material flow, from the raw material warehouse to the finished product warehouse, and thus can also be used to evaluate the impacts of these strategies on the productivity. The data upon which the decision support tool was built were collected from five sectors of the plant: the raw material warehouse, knit production, damask production, finishing work, and the finished product warehouse. The decision support tool met the objectives of the project, with all five strategies developed showing positive results. Knit and damask production rates increased by up to 8% and 44%, respectively, and a reduction of 75% was observed in the waiting time on the point of entry to the finishing work area, compared to the company’s existing system.

AbstractCalcutta Botanic Garden occupies a prime riverside site three miles downstream from the centre of Calcutta. It is most famous as the home of the world's largest tree, a vast spreading banyan. Its grand avenues, named after its founders and the fathers of Indian botany, convey something of its former glory. In the nineteenth century it was the greatest of all the colonial botanic gardens and an important scientific institution; two of its superintendents were knighted and one went on to become Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, the very centre of the imperial botanical network. The Garden is of considerable importance as it was one of the earliest institutions in India based on western science. This survey will look at the reasons for its foundation, and how it successfully established itself in its first twenty years.

Social entrepreneurship is one of the mechanisms to overcome social or community’s economic issues. In the United Kingdom, an interesting business entity known as community interest company (CIC) was introduced in 2005 to inculcate and promote social entrepreneurship among the people. CIC was introduced to address lack of vehicle to carry out non-charitable social enterprises. In CIC, the company’s assets are “locked” and could only be used for its social objectives. In Malaysia the community is generally family-knit and close-community. As such, having a business entity which is established for the purpose of the community interest would be a good and appropriate alternative business vehicle. This paper discuss the possibility of introducing a new “Public Interest Corporation (PIC)” in Malaysia which could be used to carry out business activities to gain profit but with a clear objective that profits of the business shall be used for the public interest. Discussion of this paper made special reference to the UK CIC as the model for the PIC. Research methodology adopted in this paper are statutory and doctrinal analysis.

This work firstly aims to develop a sustainability model based on Ibn Haldun’s teaching of sustainability. Religious coloring refers to the spirituality, which is re-discovered in modern ages and transferred to the workplace. Spirituality stimulates virtuousness at personal and organizational level, which in turn generates managerial sustainability meaning the lifespan of a company. While personal virtuousness refers social ethics, organizational level virtuousness could be considered as Corporate Social Responsibility. Secondly, it attempts to evaluate the relevance of Ibn Haldun’s approach to contemporary business organizations. In order to demonstrate the relationship between spirituality, virtuousness, CSR, and sustainability; data collected from Corporate Knights’ Global 100 companies were analyzed using structural equation modelling. According to the results, while workplace spirituality leads to ethical conduct and higher CSR/CS score, the relationship between spirituality or CSR/CS and financial performance is not significant. However, it seems that higher lifespan of business enterprises is related to their CSR/CS score.

To investigate this question, 2015 sustainable rankings from 4 sources that have ranked the top globally most sustainable corporations are considered (Corporate Knights, Fortune's World's Most Admired Companies, Newsweek's Green Rankings, and Harris). These rankings are analyzed using common rank comparison methods (Spearman's ?, Kendall's t). Then, they are analyzed to see if the sources ranking the data are doing so at random or if there is a specific pattern of agreement (Kendall's W and a method by Alvo, Cabilio & Feigin (1982)). The insights from these methods as well as possible limitations are considered. A truly sustainable corporation would transcend all definitions and be good for the environment and the people relying on the company. This paper will attempt to identify data points that tend to cluster close together in one or more groups, thereby justifying the feasibility of identifying sets of companies that are truly the “most” sustainable.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop mathematical relationships to calculate the loop length to knit compact plain knitted fabrics and to validate the model using the fabric parameters of commercial fabrics. Design/methodology/approach Ellipse defines the shape of the head of a knitted loop and straight lines define the arms of a knitted loop. The mathematical relationships developed relate the yarn count to the loop length of compact knitted fabrics. The experimental data and the data from previous similar research validate the accuracy of the mathematical model. Findings The model can calculate loop lengths to knit compact plain knitted fabrics in terms of thickness of the yarn and the coefficient defined to express the ratio of minor axis to major axis of the ellipse that defines the shape of the head of the loop. The mathematical model can deliver several loop lengths to produce compact plain knitted fabrics for different values of this coefficient. For commercial fabrics the error of the model was 0.53%. Originality/value The present model defines the head of the loop as an ellipse. The uniqueness of the present model is that several ellipses can exist for any given yarn thickness for a range of values assigned to the minor axis of the ellipse. The accuracy of the model against experimental data ascertains that the model is closer to the reality for commercial fabrics and proves the uniqueness of the model. Further, this model is an ideal and a simple model to introduce knitted loop configurations in teaching knitted fabric geometry.

The knit on demand supply chain As customers’ tastes become more differentiated, so must companies’ offerings evolve. The demand for variety may soon become unmanageable, and several companies are addressing this trend by adopting a system of mass customization. One project, Knit on Demand, has been conducted by the Swedish School of Textiles in close collaboration with a knitting company and a retailer of tailored fashion in Stockholm. Production and sales of customized products pose logistical challenges for the companies involved, including the one-piece flow through almost the entire supply chain and the demand for short lead times in an otherwise slow environment, adding to the cost of manufacturing mass customized garments. Customization has logistical benefits such as minimised inventory; hence, high inventory turnover and the possibility of fast response to meet customer demand. The Knit on Demand concept can be considered as leagile because it comprises both lean and agile components. It is lean in the manufacturing stage upstream and agile downstream to better respond to customer demand on the market.

The author reveals the commercial aspects of activity of the I. Ladyzhnikov publishing company in Berlin in the first decades of the twentieth century. This paper clarifies the company’s concept and fills in a number of gaps in the study of Russian-language foreign book publishing in the first decades of the twentieth century, due to the small number of comprehensive studies in this area. Getting acquainted with Russian-language emigrant book publishing is of great interest, since it reflects the large-scale processes of the post-revolutionary breakdown of the cultural life of Russia. The source base of the research is the documents of a number of Russian archives, as well as the archive of the I. Ladyzhnikov publishing company, discovered by the author at the International Institute of Social History (IISH) in Amsterdam (Netherlands). The author introduces into scientific circulation a number of new, previously unpublished data about the I. Ladyzhnikov publishing company. The article reveals the circle of people who stood at its origins: on the one hand, these are the leaders of early Bolshevism (V.I. Lenin, L.B. Krasin, V.D. Bonch-Bruevich), on the other — the central figures of the writing group “Znanye” [Knowledge] (M. Gorky, К.P. Pyatnitsky). The author presents all the names under which the publishing company operated in different years, accurately dates the stages of its existence from the moment of its origin (5th August, 1905) to the beginning of the 1930s and proposes periodization. The archive of the publishing company preserved 40 contracts with the authors; therefore it was possible to determine the circle of writers and playwrights who collaborated with it: M. Gorky, S.S. Yushkevich, S.G. Petrov (Skitalets), A.N. Kuropatkin, S.N. Rabinovich (Sholom Aleichem), Sh. Ash and other writers. The author notes that among other tasks, the publishing house defended the copyright of Russian writers abroad. The article analyses the total annual circulation of publications, the number of authors, as well as the total annual turnover of the company. For the first time, the author considers the role and place of the “Novaya Russkaya Kniga” [New Russian Book] magazine in the activities of the I. Ladyzhnikov publishing company. The author established that the 1920s were the most successful in terms of commercial activity for the publishing company. Thus, from February to March 1924, the company “absorbed” three of the major competitors: “Helikon” publishing company, “Russian Universal Publishing Company” and “Epoch” publisher. The article presents the exact dates of the contracts for the purchase of publishers, the data on the sales value and the features of the agreements concluded. In particular, I. Ladyzhnikov company bought the publishers with the preservation of their trademarks, purchased their warehouses with commodity stocks, contracts concluded with authors, as well as debt obligations to banks. The author concludes that for almost the entire first third of the twentieth century, the I. Ladyzhnikov publishing company was the most powerful commercial enterprise among all the publishing companies of “Russian Berlin”.

The aim of the paper is to examine the impact of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) responsibility on the short- and long-term cost of debt. Linear regression was applied to a unique dataset on CSR and cost of debt for 300 companies recognized in 2017 by Corporate Knights as the most sustainable companies in the world. The question about the link between CSR and cost of debt is important as there is still ongoing debate as to whether business should undertake activities in the field of CSR—managers and other stakeholders are still unsure of the outcomes. The findings show that the involvement in environmental issues decreases the cost of long-term debt whereas the involvement in social issues brings benefits to short- and long-term debt. Surprisingly the greater the involvement in corporate governance, the higher the cost of debt in all time horizons. Managers should expect a lower cost of debt from environmental and social activities mostly in the long run. Corporate governance expenditures may in turn be seen as a waste of company resources, cost of forgone opportunities, or—optionally—as an over-investment. The main novelty is the breakdown of CSR into three dimensions while examining various term structures of corporate debt.

Abstract Research purpose. The study aims to analyse, how the sustainable performance of the company impacts the economy and businesses' economic performance, and to build a model, using environmental, social, and financial indicators. Design / Methodology / Approach. To achieve this goal such methods as the Pearson correlation, Multiple Linear Regression, Cook's distance method, K-nearest neighbour and COPRAS technique were implemented. Findings. The results indicate no significant correlation between the sustainability activities of companies and the GDP of their respective countries, nor between companies' ROE and their sustainability performance. These findings suggest that conventional methods of evaluating corporate sustainability may not accurately reflect its economic impacts. Furthermore, discrepancies observed between the Corporate Knights rankings and those calculated using the COPRAS method highlight the critical need for a deeper examination of assessment methodologies. This outcome calls for a reassessment of sustainability practices and methodologies to better understand and leverage their benefits in the corporate and economic realms. While the study provides initial insights into the current sustainability assessments, further research should explore alternative evaluative models and their implications across different industries. Originality / Value / Practical implications. Companies have a significant impact on the environment and society, and sustainability is important not only for ethical concerns but also for financial and economic reasons.

In the medieval romances single combat was the knightly norm. The Italian chivalric epics sought to adapt this convention to the ideals of the Renaissance courtier. In Il Cortegiano, Frederico Fregoso explains “that where the Courtyer is at skirmishe, or assault, or battaile upon the land, or in such other places of enterprise, he ought to worke the matter wisely in seperating himself from the multitude, and undertake his notable and bould feates which he hath to doe, with as little company as he can.“’ But such displays of panache had little place in the massed infantry tactics that dominated the actual battlefields of the sixteenth century. It was disciplined self-restraint that made the Swiss and Spanish pike phalanxes so formidable, relegating cavalry to secondary importance. The Italian courtierknights had been rudely humbled, after all, when Charles XII invaded Italy in 1494 and deployed his excellent artillery.

AbstractThis paper examines office design as a spatial context of organizations. Organizations increasingly invest in designing workspaces to support employee creativity, foster company innovation and communicate a positive company image. This paper takes a critical view of this ‘hype’ by describing and analysing images of the headquarters of allegedly ‘creative workspaces’ published on the internet across a broad range of industries and corporations. Our analysis shows how their design follows standardized or stereotypical approaches to nurturing creativity: playfully or artistically designed open spaces, environments reminiscent of home, sports and play, nature, past/future technologies, or culturally aligned symbols. We discern underlying connections between office spaces and creativity, suggesting that creativity flourishes in happy, relaxed and playful communities within close-knit teams. We then identify three contradictions in relation to the existing literature on creativity and workspaces: individually versus collectively produced creativity; professionally designed workspaces versus workspaces created through participation; and planned versus emerging creativity.

Abstract Patients who relapse after allogeneic HCT have a poor prognosis and few effective treatment options. Responses to salvage therapy with donor lymphocyte infusions (DLI) are driven by a graft versus leukemia (GvL) effect. However, relapses and moderate to severe graft versus host disease (GVHD) are common. Therapies that increase the GvL effect without inducing GVHD are needed. The NEXI-001 study is a prospective, multicenter, open-label phase 1/2 trial designed to characterize the safety, immunogenic, and antitumor activity of the NEXI-001 antigen specific T-cell product. This product is a donor-derived non-genetically engineered therapy that consists of populations of CD8+ T cells that recognize HLA 02.01-restricted peptides from the WT1, PRAME, and Cyclin A1 antigens. These T cells consist of populations with key memory phenotypes, including stem-like memory, central memory, and effector memory cells, with a low proportion (<5%) of potentially allogeneic-reactive T-naïve cells. Patients enrolled into the first cohort of the dose escalation phase received a single infusion of 50 million (M) to 100M cells of the NEXI-001 product. Bridging anti-AML treatment was permitted during the manufacture of the cellular product with a wash-out period of at least 14 days prior to lymphodepletion (LD) chemotherapy (intravenous fludarabine 30 mg/m 2 and cyclophosphamide 300 mg/m 2) that was administered on Days -5, -4, and -3 prior to the infusion of the NEXI-001 product up to 72 hours later (Day1). Lymphocyte recovery to baseline levels occurred as early as three days after the NEXI-001 product infusion with robust CD4 and CD8 T cell reconstitution after LD chemotherapy. NEXI-001 antigen specific T cells were detectable in peripheral blood (PB) by multimer staining and were found to proliferate over time and to traffic to bone marrow. The phenotype composition of detectable antigen specific T cells at both sites was that of the infused product. T-cell receptor (TCR) sequencing assays revealed T cell clones in the NEXI-001 product that were not detected in PB of patients tested at baseline. These unique clones subsequently expanded in PB and bone marrow (BM) and persisted over time. Neutrophil recovery, decreased transfusion burden of platelets and red blood cells, and increased donor chimerism were observed. Decreases in myeloblasts and reduction in the size of an extramedullary myeloid sarcoma were suggestive of clinical activity. One patient, a 23-year- old with MRD+ disease at baseline, received two doses of 200M NEXI-001 cells separated by approximately 2 months. Following the first infusion, antigen specific CD8+ T cells increased gradually in PB to 9% of the total CD3+ T cell population just prior to the second infusion and were found to have trafficked to bone marrow. By Day 2 following the second infusion, which was not preceded by LD chemotherapy, the antigen specific CD8+ T cells again increased to 9% of the total CD3+ T cell population in PB and remained at ≥5% until the end of study visit a month later. The absolute lymphocyte count increased by 50% highlighting continued expansion of the NEXI-001 T cells. These cells also maintained significant Tscm populations. Treatment related adverse events, including infusion reactions, GVHD, CRS, and neurotoxicity (ICANS), have not developed in these patients who have received 50M to 200M T cells of the NEXI-001 product either as single or repeat infusions. In conclusion, these results show that infusion of the NEXI-001 product is safe and capable of generating a cell-mediated immune response with early signs of clinical activity. A second infusion is associated with increasing the level of antigen specific CD8+ T cells and their persistence in PB and BM. TCR sequencing and RNA Seq transcriptional profiling of the CD8+ T cells are planned, and these data will be available for presentation during the ASH conference. At least two cycles of 200M NEXI-001 cells weekly x 3 weeks of a 4-week cycle is planned for the next dose-escalation cohort. Early data suggest that the NEXI-001 product has the potential to enhance a GvL effect with minimal GVHD-associated toxicities. Based on the analysis of publications of scholars and book practitioners the author formulates main features and definition of the bookselling network as a set of wholesale, wholesale-retail and retail bookselling enterprises under common management (a single management center and unified management principles), which sell the similar book and accompanying assortment of goods and services for personal and public (library) consumption to get profit. The world largest, having no analogues to date, national bookselling network was the unified state centralized system of the USSR State Printing Committee, which included 3,763 stores in 1988. After its disintegration in 1996-2000, the federal, regional and local bookselling networks started forming both in the center of Russia and in regions on other principles and in other ways. The phenomenon of the Russian book market at the turn of the XX and XXI centuries was a wholesale and retail book-selling company «Top-book» (1995-2011). The company built a system of logistics centers, developed and implemented various formats of the retail distribution network. By 2010, the «Top-Book» had over 500 stores in more than 230 Russian cities and sold above 3 million books a month. At the same time, the company's unprecedented pace of development required organizational changes: improving manageability, optimizing the budget expenditure part by reducing costs. The impossibility to solve the problems led the company to bankruptcy in 2011. The largest federal bookstore network enterprise in Russia by 2017 is the integrated retail network «Chitai-gorod» - «Bukvoed» over 528 enterprises in 167 cities of Russia. There are 55 stores in 21 cities of Siberia and the Far East. But the most significant for the regional book market is the activity of bookselling associations established in Siberia and the Far East. Mostly there are networks created by booksellers in the region, but publishing and book-selling holdings («Bichik», «Apex», «Novaya kniga», etc.) form networks to sale their own printed products as well.

Most of us encounter dozens of franchised businesses each day, ranging from familiar fast-food restaurants to franchised educational systems such as Learn Right. Franchise means the special right given by the producer of a product (brand) to another firm to sell his product in a particular area. Franchising operation is a contractual relationship between a franchisor (the company offering the franchise) and the franchisee (the company undertaking to promote the sale of franchisor’s products). Individual franchises are a tightly knit group of enterprises whose systematic operations are planned, directed and controlled by the operation’s innovator, called the ‘franchisor’. Franchising continues to be a highly regulated industry that endeavors to promote the healthy growth of the economy. As an entrepreneur is a catalyst in the process of economic development, there is a need to develop the concept of entrepreneurship. Franchise Mart is a source to develop the Indian entrepreneurs. The present paper aims to discuss the concept of franchising, reasons for franchising and different opportunities provided by franchising for development of Indian entrepreneurs. The top established and emerging franchises both national and international are also discussed in our present paper. Finally, some suggestions are given for success in franchising.

The provocative tale of spiritual freedom from bodily entrapment, as portrayed in Tess Gunty's debut novel, The Rabit Hutch, is a modern masterpiece. Set in the post-industrial context, the decaying city of Vacca Vale city in Indiana is struggling to deal with the impacts of withdrawal of Zorn Automobile Company. The novel presents glimpses of the lives of people residing in an affordable apartment called La Lapinière or, mostly known as the Rabbit Hutch. Gunty uses her versatile narrative technique here through utilising different styles such as the use of epistles, black and white pictures, along with obituary comments to closely knit the stories. The desire of the central protagonist, Blandine Watkins for achieving spiritual freedom through dreaming for a bodily escape shows the intent of the novelist to sketch spirituality as the method of freeing oneself from worldly suffering. The subplots of different situations of people living in different apartments helped in connecting the larger view for changing scenario due to withdrawal of the automobile company. The theme of loneliness and worldly misery is portrayed through the life of Blandine while indicating her belief on the Catholic mystics to escape from this entrapment. The novel beautifully sketches the journey of the characters from loneliness to spirituality based on imaginary prediction while handling the real-life issues and political unrest encountered by the habitants.
