Le livre comporte 16 travaux, dont l'introduction, regroupés sous trois thèmes. Le premier traite de l'environnement physique des personnes àgées. Le second s'intéresse plus particuliegrave;à leur environnement social dans le monde du travail, au sein des families et dans le cadre d'activités de loisir. Le troisième traite de manière générate des politiques sur le vieillissement. Dans l'ensemble, la lecture de ces travaux s'avérera utile, surtoutpour des étudiants, aussi bien du premier cycle que des deuxième et troisième cycles. L'ouvrage offre un survol de certains sujets et soulève d'importantes questions sur d'autres. Les gérontologues enseignants et les professionnels du domaine du vieillissement trouveront également intérèt à lire certains des travaux.

L’auteure, qui exerce notamment auprès d’adultes handicapés en établissement et service d’aide par le travail (ESAT), fait le constat que le contexte actuel dans le secteur du médico-social tend à invisibiliser la souffrance psychique et le handicap. Dans le prolongement de son article publié dans le Journal en 2022, elle met en avant un impératif d’économie financière qui vient appuyer un mouvement idéologique de fond, celui d’une clinique du soin mise à mal par l’objectif du « tout inclusif ». L’inclusion serait alors déconnectée de l’institution, pensée en dehors du collectif et se résumerait à une normalisation par le travail d’individus isolés. Explications.

Résumé Cet article met en valeur le potentiel de recherche du fonds Gérald Leblanc. Les manuscrits de Gérald Leblanc témoignent de l’ensemble de sa production littéraire et rendent compte de ses méthodes de travail, des mécanismes de production de ses écrits, des processus qui ont mené à l’émergence de son oeuvre. Son journal intime et sa correspondance constituent un corpus de choix pour plusieurs champs d’études littéraires, anthropologiques et historiques dont les études sur le genre autobiographique, sur la mise en scène du soi, ou les travaux portant sur l’histoire de la correspondance et les réseaux de sociabilité. Le fonds témoigne particulièrement du courant littéraire qui a émergé dans les années 70 en Acadie tout en rappelant le rôle de Leblanc dans l’évolution de la culture acadienne en milieu urbain.

Dans Journal d'un travailleur forcé, le jeune Albert Memmi consigne son expérience des camps de travail obligatoire en Tunisie, alors colonie française, livrant á la postérité un précieux document sur un épisode méconnu de l'Histoire de la Tunisie, pendant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale, á un moment oú la France était sous l'occupation allemande. Memmi use de nombreux procédés de distanciation afin de désamorcer la cruauté d'un quotidien oú les requis glissent irrémédiablement sur la pente de la déshumanisation. Ce journal de jeunesse trahit enfin les velléités romanesques de Memmi et apparaît comme un brouillon préparatoire en vue d'une fiction á venir.

Le déficit de légitimité sociale de la littérature, qui est l’un des consensus de la critique actuelle, ne signifie pas pour autant une relégation de la figure publique de l’écrivain et de sa parole puisque plusieurs journaux continuent de publier, dans les années 1990 et 2000, des chroniques et billets d’auteurs contemporains. Ainsi les hebdomadaires culturels gratuits Ici et Voir reprennent à la presse traditionnelle la pratique de cette collaboration régulière d’un écrivain à un périodique ; dans cette perspective, on s’intéressera à la chronique « Hors champ » que le romancier Nicolas Dickner a tenue à Voir de 2006 à 2012. En observant dans ces quelque deux cents textes brefs, parus pendant six ans, comment se répondent, d’une part le mandat très large que le journal accorde à l’écrivain et, d’autre part, la manière dont Dickner se l’approprie, tant dans une forme qu’il réinvestit que par les sujets qu’il choisit d’aborder, on tentera de montrer à l’oeuvre la construction de l’une des figures de l’écrivain québécois des années 2000 et d’en interroger le sens. On s’attachera notamment aux divers dispositifs analogiques par lesquels le chroniqueur s’efforce de définir son métier et, du même coup, le rôle de la littérature dans la société contemporaine.

Depuis les années 1970, dans le contexte d’intervention, le diarisme s’est exprimé à travers les journaux institutionnels, les journaux d’introspection et les journaux constitutifs des communautés de conscientisation de la crise du social. Lorsqu’il touche aux pratiques professionnelles quotidiennes, le journal est aussi sociologique, car il correspond à un recueil de données permettant l’élaboration d’études de cas. A travers ses variantes, cet outil de l’instituant ordinaire constitue un support à la réflexivité et à la quête de sens des professionnels dans le travail social. Le journal d’intervention permet la description, l’analyse et la compréhension du réel. Il s’inscrit dans une perspective clinique de l’institution. Et aujourd’hui, on peut se demander si le journal n’est pas la dernière institution du sujet, car c’est lui qui donne de la consistance sociale. Il est devenu un outil précieux pour celui qui s’inscrit dans une démarche d’éducation tout au long de la vie de la personne, mais aussi de l’institution. Dans cette perspective de formation, la circulation du journal est médiation. Lorsque le journal est socialisé dans une institution du champ social, les analyseurs et les implications se dévoilent au collectif. L’analyse institutionnelle s’appuie sur le mouvement des groupes pour proposer une alternative à la bureaucratie. C’est un courant de pensées qui se nourrit des différents champs disciplinaires des sciences humaines. Ce travail interroge dans ce contexte de pluralité de pensées, les possibles du travail social ouverts par les dispositifs mettant en scène la socialisation du journal
Since the 1970s, as forms of intervention, journal writing has taken its place in institutional journals, journals of introspective reflection and journals written in self-awareness groups in the context of social crisis. If it deals with everyday professional practices, journal writing is also a sociological phenomenon: It represents a collection of data allowing for the construction of case-studies. In all its variants, it is an aid to the ordinary agent in any institution, supporting self-reflection and reflection on goals and motivations in social-work professionals. The journal of intervention allows for the description, analysis and understanding of reality. It participates in the clinical perspective of the institution. Today, we may ask us the question whether the journal is the last remaining institution of the subject since it is the point of creation of social stability. It has become a precious tool to those who submit their entire lives to processes of education. The same applies to institutions. From the point of view of growth and learning, appreciation of the journal is mediation. When the journal is socialized in an institution of the social field, analyzers and implications become visible to the collective. The analysis of institutions is linked to groups as an alternative to bureaucratic approaches. It is a school of thought thriving on a number of disciplinary fields within the humanities. In the context of multiple schools of thought, the thesis examines the possibilities which structures exhibiting the socialization of journals offer to social work

Cette thèse repose sur une triple démarche éditoriale, génétique et littéraire. Jean Vilar appartient à l'histoire sociale et théâtrale en tant que fondateur et directeur du festival d'Avignon, de 1947 à 1971, directeur du Théâtre national populaire, de 1951 à 1963, comédien, metteur en scène et chef de troupe. C'est aussi un polygraphe dont l'ambition initiale était de devenir écrivain. Cette thèse réfute l'idée de concurrence entre la vocation littéraire et théâtrale. La pratique de l'écriture nourrit celle de la recherche scénique et sa position de directeur alimente une correspondance et un journal de travail au sein desquels s'expriment un style propre, un ton reconnaissable et une vision du monde. La démarche éditoriale repose sur la constitution d'un corpus de 328 lettres, pour la plupart inédites, transcrites, classées et commentées. Elles témoignent des échanges avec les personnalités théâtrales, littéraires, politiques et intellectuelles, de la sortie de guerre aux années 1970. Le journal de travail de Vilar, intitulé « mémento », est transcrit et annoté dans son entièreté, de 1952 à 1970. Il se compose de trois carnets dont seuls le premier et le début du deuxième avaient été publiés. Nous présentons et étudions le troisième, inédit, que Vilar a tenu de sa démission du TNP à sa mort. La démarche génétique consiste à comparer les différentes versions du « Mémento » : du journal de bord initial à sa réécriture. Quel regard l'artiste retiré porte-t-il sur le passé et comment le transforme-t-il ? Quelle image de son œuvre et de lui-même construit-il pour la postérité ? Comment la réécriture de soi hybride-t-elle le journal entre carnet de bord et autobiographie professionnelle ? L'analyse littéraire du corpus consiste enfin à étudier les caractéristiques de la plume d'un Vilar épistolier et diariste pour en dégager la spécificité, fondée sur un mélange de d'exigence professionnelle forte et d'amitié tendre
This PhD thesis follows a threefold editorial, genetic, and literary approach. Jean Vilar holds a prominent place in social and theatrical history as the founder and director of the Avignon Festival (1947–1971), the director of the Théâtre National Populaire (1951–1963), as well as an actor, director, and troupe leader. Additionally, Vilar was a prolific writer whose original ambition was to become an author. This thesis refutes the idea of competition between literary and theatrical vocations. The practice of writing enriches his theatrical research, and his position as director fosters a body of correspondence and work diaries where a distinct style, recognizable tone, and vision of the world emerge. The editorial approach focuses on the creation of a corpus of 328 letters, most of which are previously unpublished, transcribed, classified, and annotated. These letters reflect Vilar’s exchanges with theatrical, literary, political, and intellectual figures from the post-war period to the 1970s. Vilar’s work diary, entitled "Mémento", has been fully transcribed and annotated for the period from 1952 to 1970. It consists of three notebooks, of which only the first and the beginning of the second had been published. This study presents and analyzes the third, previously unpublished, which Vilar maintained from his resignation from the TNP until his death. The genetic approach compares the different versions of the "Mémento", from the initial logbook to its later rewritings. What perspective does the retired artist take on the past, and how does he transform it? What image of his work and of himself does he construct for posterity? How does this self-rewriting blend the journal between a logbook and a professional autobiography? Finally, the literary analysis of the corpus aims to study the characteristics of Vilar’s writing as a letter-writer and diarist, highlighting its specificity, based on a combination of high professional standards and tender friendship

La justice globale du groupe fait référence aux perceptions du traitement juste ou injuste reçu de la part des membres du groupe de travail ou des collègues de travail. Les perceptions de justice organisationnelle ont longtemps été considérées comme stables dans le temps, qui ne pouvaient changer que sur le niveau interindividuel. Cependant, il a été démontré empiriquement que les perceptions de justice varient dans le temps sur les deux niveaux inter et intra-individuels que ce soit d’une période à une autre, d’une semaine à une autre, d’un jour à un autre et même au cours d’une seule et même journée. La justice organisationnelle est connue pour avoir une influence significative sur un certain nombre de comportements et attitudes au travail tels que la performance, la satisfaction, l’intention de départ, l’engagement ou encore l’implication au travail. Récemment, il a été révélé que les perceptions de justice avaient également une influence sur le sentiment de bien-être au travail des individus. Ainsi, la présente recherche examine l’effet des perceptions de justice globale du groupe sur le bien-être au travail en adoptant une approche dynamique appelée la méthode du journal personnel ou la Diary Study. Cette recherche étudie également les mécanismes explicatifs de cette relation
Overall team justice refers to the perceived treatments received by team members or coworkers at work. Organizational justice has been long considered as a stable variable over time changing from one individual to another. However, empirical studies have shown that justice perceptions vary over time at both the between and the within-individual level across periods of time, from one week to another, form one day to another, and even over the course of one single day. Organizational justice has been shown to have a significant influence on different individual’s attitudes and behaviors at work such as performance, satisfaction, turnover intention, engagement and implication at work. Recently, studies have revealed that justice perceptions have also an influence on individual’s wellbeing at work. Thus, the present research examines the effect of overall team justice perceptions on wellbeing at work by using a dynamic approach, namely, the Diary Study. This research also examines the underlying mechanisms of this relationship

Cette thèse traite du processus de valorisation des quotidiens nationaux d’informations générales sur le double marché de la presse (lecteurs et annonceurs) en s’intéressant au rôle de l’activité d’édition dans la création de valeur. L’analyse de l’activité des « travailleurs de la presse » (rédacteurs, secrétaires de rédaction, direction des journaux, personnel des régies publicitaires, etc.) vise à décrire la production d’un bien hybride, à la fois informationnel et publicitaire, dont les caractéristiques finales résultent d’opérations de qualification et d’évaluation des contenus, et d’opérations rédactionnelles et techniques transformant des projets éditoriaux en produits édités. L’observation du travail éditorial et des usages des dispositifs d’édition dans les rédactions de presse quotidienne montre l’existence d’un processus de rationalisation de l’activité de conception et de fabrication du journal. Les directions cherchent à maîtriser ce processus pour accroître leur contrôle de l’édition et de la valorisation des quotidiens mais la rationalisation industrielle ne garantit pas la rentabilité des entreprises dans un marché des biens informationnels en mutation. Pour faire face aux incertitudes liées à la valorisation des journaux, les éditeurs agissent sur le positionnement éditorial des titres et sur le travail d’édition effectué par les rédactions, tout en engageant le développement de structures rédactionnelles « plurimédias ». L’activité d’édition des contenus est au cœur de la chaîne de valeur du journal, mais l’évolution des pratiques culturelles et la transformation du paysage médiatique engendrent une remise en cause des modèles économiques des entreprises de presse et bousculent les pratiques de travail dans les rédactions comme les représentations des métiers qui s’y exercent
This thesis deals with the process of valorization of national daily newspapers on the two-sided market of the press (readers and advertisers) and considers the role of the edition activity in the creation of value. The analysis of the activity of “press workers” (writers, editors, managers, commercials in advertising agencies) aims at describing the production of an hybrid good, both informational and advertising, of which final characteristics result from operations of qualification and valuation of contents, and from editorial and technical operations that transform editorial projects into edited products. The observation of editorial work and edition systems uses in daily press newsrooms shows a process of rationalization of the conception and production of newspapers. Editors want to master this process in order to reinforce their control of edition and valorization of newspapers, but industrial rationalization does not guarantee firms profitability in a changing market of informational goods. To face uncertainty of newspapers valorization, editors take action on the editorial position of papers and on the work of edition done by editorial staff, and they engage the development of cross-media newsrooms. The activity of contents edition is at the heart of the value chain of newspaper, but the evolution of cultural practices and the transforming media landscape put in question business models of newspapers and challenge work practices as well as representations of occupations in newsrooms

How might a photographic travelogue based upon personal first-hand experience and dialogic modes of self-representation actively embody and engage with the implications of whiteness as it impacts on racial hierarchies? And what ethical considerations should be taken into consideration when it is a white woman undertaking such research? The research was constructed through a field trip that followed loosely in the footsteps of an African man (Tete-Michel Kpomassie) from West Africa to Greenland. While undertaking this research, I made a visual diary of self-portraiture, documentary and auteur-style snapshots and portraits that mirrored points of encounter through the subjective gaze of my photographic practice and my own white female body. The photographic travelogue and the dialogue with Kpomassie framed the circumstances of the research, thus implicating my complicity as a white subject in a system organized by racial tenets. The methodology, which reflects my subjective as well as my categorical identity in different activities, such as middle-aged sex tourism, begs the question of what kinds of ethical factors and limitations need to be considered or transgressed when it is a white woman that is performing or conducting such research. These issues are examined in a discussion that juxtaposes the imagery with a selection of work around questions about racial/gendered and sexual identity, that has been carried out by other artists and academics in photographic, artistic and theoretical discourses, particularly Adrian Piper and Judith Butler.

L’objet de la thèse est de comprendre comment se structure la journée de travail et comment l’organisation quotidienne du temps de travail révèle de profondes inégalités sociales entre les travailleurs, notamment entre les hommes et les femmes. Les travaux qui se sont penchés sur le temps de travail ces dernières décennies ont généralement privilégié le cadre hebdomadaire comme angle d’analyse. Ces travaux ont également pu s’intéresser à certaines périodes spécifiques, comme le travail de nuit ou du dimanche. Alors que la tendance est à apprécier le temps de travail par rapport à un cadre de référence toujours plus large, la journée apparaît être un cadre plus fin et plus original pour évaluer les effets de la diversification des temps de travail. L'analyse des horaires de travail quotidiens permet d’appréhender les difficultés perçues par les individus, notamment en matière d’articulation des temps. Des investigations quantitatives menées à partir de l’enquête Conditions de Travail (DARES) et la construction d’outils statistiques variés permettent de décrire et d’analyser la journée de travail, mais également de faire apparaître les enjeux sociaux se nouant autour de celle-ci. Cette dernière est au cœur des inégalités entre les travailleurs (hommes et femmes ; parents et non-parents ; PCS). Sont questionnés les enjeux de la présence au travail, de la capacité des salariés à maîtriser leur temps et à se rendre disponible sur certains horaires ; ainsi que les enjeux de la valorisation du temps, de la capacité à faire rémunérer le temps passé à la disposition de l’employeur et à faire reconnaître la pénibilité des horaires qui s’écartent de la norme
This thesis aims at understanding how the working day is organized and how this daily organization of working time reveals deep social inequalities between workers, particularly between men and women. The numerous works that have studied working time in recent decades have generally favored the weekly framework as analysis angle. These works have also studied specific periods, such as night work and Sunday work. Although the trend is to estimate the working time over a framework of ever wider reference, the day yet appears to be a more precise and more original framework to assess the effects of diversification of work habits observed during the last forty years. The analysis of daily work schedules enables us to understand the difficulties people experience, particularly in terms of articulation of time. Quantitative investigations from the Working Conditions survey (DARES), including the construction of indicators and different statistical tools allow us to describe and analyze the daily organization of working time but also show the social issues forming around the workday. This latter is at the heart of inequality between workers (men and women ; parents and non-parents ; professional categories). Indeed, the capacity to attend work, to control one’s time and to make oneself available certain hours is at stake. The valuation of the time given by the workers, the ability to recognize, in other words to pay, the time spent available to the employer, but also to recognize the difficulty of the temporal organization of work and schedules which deviate from the norm are also at stake

This paper investigates the oil infrastructures, as intersections of trans-territorial networks systems of power and their exchange with local practices: the journey of Jet A1 aviation fuel that facilitates thebudget air traveling in Berlin's airports, from crude oil extraction in Russia, distillation in Schwedt -Eastern Germany, to refueling off the aircraft by tanker truck sits source to its point of use. A case study focuses on the urbanism dynamics of Schwedt as an attempt to trace part of the planetary urbanism corresponding to Berlin's growing tourist industry's use of jet fuel. The first part of the research centers on oil landscapes' networks -the industrial footprint of oil: its transformation, storage, and transportation. Further provides a depiction of 'what constitutes aviation fuel and its production network' to view the actors involved in the process, the links between them, and the spatial implications. The second part addresses how aviation fuel has impacted Berlin and Brandenburg's hinterland: primarily, Schwedt, a shrinking city despite Berlin's recent boom, where the size of the traditional urban "city" form is diminutive in scale compared to the adjacent PCK oil refinery's "non-city" form of urbanization. The study's findings present new ways of interpreting and mapping the metabolic vehicles of planetary urbanization in both architectural and urban scales.

These strategies provide a multifaceted understanding of bus travel, ranging from the minute gestures of passengers to the broader regulatory frameworks that govern this mode of transport. Everyday life is embraced as the cornerstone for understanding society. Public transportation, particularly the buses of Medellín, encapsulates the paradoxical interplay between established norms and spontaneous rhythms. This research dissects the "molar" aspects, marked by urban structures and systemic regulations, and the "molecular" intricacies interwoven in the minutiae of daily travel. Passengers and drivers share a unique relationship, with drivers assuming a constant vigilance role through mirrors. In contrast, passengers can engage in diverse visual practices or immerse themselves in the captivating scenery. The bus's interior, filled with reflective surfaces and transparent elements, creates a visually stimulating environment where multiple images and sounds coexist. Graphic methods aim to illustrate the correlation between molar and molecular urban elements and the intricate network of public transportation. In our pursuit to incorporate a temporal dimension, we introduced innovative tools such as timelines and sound maps within our cartographic explorations, presenting both new opportunities and challenges.

Problématique de santé et de sécurité du travail et objectifs Le prolongement de la vie active représente un phénomène croissant chez les travailleurs québécois de plus de 55 ans. En 2017, ce groupe représentait près de 20 % des travailleurs occupant un emploi à temps plein. Considérant les changements physiologiques qui s’opèrent avec le vieillissement, l’emploi de travailleurs plus âgés peut nécessiter l’adaptation des tâches en tenant compte de leur capacité physique et de leurs limites de manière à préserver leur santé. Bien que peu de données soient actuellement disponibles, il est probable que les efforts physiques et les contraintes de l’environnement de travail entraînent des conséquences physiologiques différentes chez les travailleurs âgés en comparaison avec les travailleurs plus jeunes. L’objectif de cette recherche est de déterminer la faisabilité de mesurer l’impact des efforts physiques déployés au cours d’une journée de travail sur le développement de la fatigue musculaire, les propriétés tissulaires et la stabilité posturale de travailleurs âgés (>50 ans) et plus jeunes (≤50 ans). Méthodologie Des travailleurs jeunes (≤50 ans) et des travailleurs âgés (> 50 ans) ont été recrutés pour cette étude de faisabilité visant à identifier les impacts physiques et physiologiques encourus au cours d’une journée de travail typique. Les mesures utilisées en début et en fin de journée comprenaient un test d’endurance et de fatigue musculaire des muscles du tronc, l’évaluation de la hauteur discale pour l’ensemble du rachis et un test de stabilité posturale. De plus, au cours de la journée de travail, les participants ont porté un dispositif d’actimétrie permettant une collecte de données concernant le niveau d’activité physique journalier et les positions de travail, en plus de faire l’objet d’une analyse ergonomique de l’activité afin de comprendre la complexité de leur travail. Un total de 41 participants, soit 21 dans le groupe 1 (travailleurs jeunes : ≤50 ans) et 20 dans le groupe 2 (travailleurs âgés : > 50 ans) ont été recrutés. Les deux groupes ne différaient entre eux pour aucune variable sociodémographique, à l’exception de l’âge moyen, du nombre d’années d’ancienneté et du poids moyen (kg). Les participants âgés présentaient un nombre d’années d’ancienneté significativement plus élevé, se chiffrant à 13,04 ± 13,56 années, comparativement à 2,48 ± 2,60 pour les travailleurs plus jeunes (p < 0,05). Le poids moyen des travailleurs âgés (79,13 ± 16,30 kg) était également significativement plus élevé (p < 0,001) lorsque comparé aux travailleurs plus jeunes (69,4 ± 13,31 kg). Aucune différence statistiquement significative dans la satisfaction générale, intrinsèque et extrinsèque au travail, ainsi qu’en matière d’acceptabilité du port de l’actimètre n’a été notée entre les travailleurs jeunes et les travailleurs plus âgés (p ˃ 0,05). Les résultats indiquent un effet significatif du moment de la journée sur l’endurance, la force maximale, la hauteur discale, et la vitesse de déplacement du centre de pression en médio-latéral, les travailleurs présentant une diminution de la durée du maintien de la posture, une diminution de la force maximale et une diminution de la hauteur discale le matin par rapport à la fin de journée. L'âge n'a pas eu d'effet significatif sur la plupart des variables, à l'exception de la vitesse de déplacement du centre de pression, où les travailleurs plus âgés ont montré des valeurs plus élevées, pouvant témoigner d’une plus grande instabilité posturale. Toutefois, l’intégration de la variable du poids aux analyses statistiques révèle que les effets répertoriés s’expliquent en partie par la différence de poids entre les travailleurs âgés et les travailleurs plus jeunes. Aucune différence significative en regard du nombre de pas quotidien, de la dépense énergétique, du temps assis et debout et du nombre de passages de la position assise à debout n’a été notée entre le groupe de travailleurs jeunes et le groupe de travailleurs âgés (p > 0,05). L’analyse ergonomique des activités de travail n’a révélé aucune différence significative en termes de contraintes biomécaniques entre les travailleurs jeunes et âgés. La flexion antérieure du tronc était la contrainte la plus fréquente. Retombées Bien que l’âge ne semble pas influencer la nature des changements physiologiques et biomécaniques se produisant au cours d’un quart de travail, les conclusions de cette étude suggèrent cependant que des mesures peuvent être mises en place pour adapter l’environnement de travail et mieux outiller le travailleur pour faire face aux tâches quotidiennes requises dans le cadre de son emploi. Ces mesures auraient intérêt à ne pas se concentrer exclusivement sur les catégories d'âge des travailleurs, mais plutôt sur les capacités physiques individuelles, ouvrant la porte à des interventions personnalisées pour améliorer la santé et le bien-être au travail. L'étude éclaire également les défis liés au recrutement et au suivi des travailleurs, soulignant l'acceptabilité des mesures physiques et physiologiques utilisées pour rendre compte de l’impact des tâches déployées au cours d’une journée de travail sur la fatigue musculaire, les propriétés tissulaires du rachis et le contrôle postural des travailleurs jeunes et âgés.

The article analyzes a series of materials by Aleksander Janta-Polczynski «Into the USSR» from Soviet Russia during the in 1932, published on «Wiadomości Literackiе». The purpose of this article is explain the uniqueness of the reporter’s style and personality. We want to emphasize the role of Janta-Polczynski as the pioneer of reportage journalism. He was the first who worked professionally in this position in the full sense of this word. Analyzed the cycle of Alexander Janta-Polczynski from Russia, we can emphasize the scale of the reporter’s trip: in 1932 the journalist made the largest journalistic trip to the USSR. Janta visited the Eastern republics, which differed from the popular Moscow and Leningrad. Also, he saw the largest construction in the USSR at this time – which it bragged about russian newspapers – Magnitogorsk and Dneprostroy. For a better understanding are given the visual examples from reportorial texts. It should be noted that for Janta the main task of the reporter is to show what is seen and recorded: only facts and personal experience in communication. This cycle can safely be called a journey and social expedition. The main task for Janta the scene where the reportage takes place is to find proper characters and convince them of the importance of their story. These are the materials of a reporter – an eyewitness, not a researcher, a report from the scene, which pushes the reader to an independent conclusion. We explore that all the Janta-Polczynski texts are inextricably linked by looking into the «middle» of the process: the diversity of what is seen allows the journalist to look for differences and similarities, compare, look at the fundamental components, track changes and distinguish them. Special attention was paid to a low-angle shot in his materials. He describes how Soviet society lives, how factories work, how the system of educating a Soviet person, goes to the movies and exhibitions, communicates with ordinary citizens. Undoubtedly, all this is successfully complemented by the factual detail and uniqueness of the author’s style.

The “Novel streaming potential (SP) and thermal sensor techniques for monitoring water and nutrient fluxes in the vadose zone” project ended Oct. 30, 2015, after an extension to complete travel and intellectual exchange of ideas and sensors. A significant component of this project was the development and testing of the Penta-needle Heat Pulse Probe (PHPP) in addition to testing of the streaming potential concept, both aimed at soil water flux determination. The PHPP was successfully completed and shown to provide soil water flux estimates down to 1 cm day⁻¹ with altered heat input and timing as well as use of larger heater needles. The PHPP was developed by Scott B. Jones at Utah State University with a plan to share sensors with Shmulik P. Friedman, the ARO collaborator. Delays in completion of the PHPP resulted in limited testing at USU and a late delivery of sensors (Sept. 2015) to Dr. Friedman. Two key aspects of the subsurface water flux sensor development that delayed the availability of the PHPP sensors were the addition of integrated electrical conductivity measurements (available in February 2015) and resolution of bugs in the microcontroller firmware (problems resolved in April 2015). Furthermore, testing of the streaming potential method with a wide variety of non-polarizable electrodes at both institutions was not successful as a practical measurement tool for water flux due to numerous sources of interference and the M.S. student in Israel terminated his program prematurely for personal reasons. In spite of these challenges, the project funded several undergraduate students building sensors and several master’s students and postdocs participating in theory and sensor development and testing. Four peer-reviewed journal articles have been published or submitted to date and six oral/poster presentations were also delivered by various authors associated with this project. We intend to continue testing the "new generation" PHPP probes at both USU and at the ARO resulting in several additional publications coming from this follow-on research. Furthermore, Jones is presently awaiting word on an internal grant application for commercialization of the PHPP at USU.

This case study traces the journey of Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action (YUVA), an NGO which was co-founded in Mumbai (erstwhile Bombay) in 1984 by a young graduate Minar Pimple along with a group of his lecturers and peers from the Nirmala Niketan College of Social Work, together looking to evolve an indigenous model of social work practice. To say that times have changed in India since YUVA’s inception 38 years ago would be an understatement. Despite this, the organization’s spirit continues to echo its founding purpose and values, and provide a space in which the most marginalised of young and like-minded people can come together, understand their rights and responsibilities as citizens, and work together towards shared ideals. Even today, the majority of the people who work with YUVA (meaning “youth”) come from marginalised backgrounds. Such talent composition is not the norm, even in civil society. Seeded with feminist ideals—in particular that of nurturing a careful and life-long sensitivity for the socio-politically marginalised, and standing by them in their strive for social justice—YUVA’s historical record is a statement of how a steadfast commitment to principles can eventually find home in a settled and satisfying practice. This case study lays out both what that historical record speaks and what it speaks between the lines. What the record directly speaks of is the radical milieu in which YUVA came into being, how it became a significant civil society presence in its own right, how it multiplied new initiatives, and how it underwent a difficult leadership transition and financial stresses, yet strived hard to remain relevant. Between the lines, the record hints at how an alert, attuned and active academic milieu constitutes a real treasure—a reminder that perhaps seems appropriate for the times; and narrates the story of how a feminist organization deeply committed to social justice operates from the inside, of the people who make it and how they make and remake it. organizations of this nature have an important place in the annals of Indian civil society but have not received a proportionate space within the documented field of organizational development and talent management. This case study provides an opportunity for learners to explore the idea, relevance and practices of a feminist organization, through the travails and triumphs of one of the oldest ones in India.
