A significant fraction of today's Internet traffic is associated with popular web sites such as YouTube, Netflix or Facebook. In recent years, major Internet websites have become more complex as they incorporate a larger number and more diverse types of objects (e.g. video, audio, code) along with more elaborate ways from multiple servers. These not only affect the loading time of pages but also determine the pattern of resulting traffic on the Internet. In this thesis, we characterize the complexity of major Internet websites through large-scale measurement and analysis. We identify thousands of the most popular Internet websites from multiple locations and characterize their complexities. We examine the effect of the relative popularity ranking and business type of the complexity of websites. Finally we compare and contrast our results with a similar study conducted 4 years earlier and report on the observed changes in different aspects.

It was concluded in the literature review that small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMME) should prioritise utilising the websites on the Internet, as it provides a low cost infrastructure, unlocking opportunities and allowing small- to medium-sized enterprises to market to the international customer, promoting business activities in a low-risk environment. However, visitors do not know that they do not know, meaning a need for facilitation exists between the Internet user in terms of the information required and the information available on the Internet. Search engines (governed by their organic ranking algorithms) were created for this very purpose, to facilitate users in finding relevant information on the Internet in the shortest time possible. Search engines interpret and evaluate any given indexed web page from a targeted keywords perspective, indicating that web pages must be optimised from a search engine perspective. However, the elements search engines perceive to be important may not always be aligned with what website visitors perceive to be important. Anything on the web page that may remotely impede the visitors’ experience could be detrimental as alternative website options are but a click away. An example would be the excessive use of content on a given web page. The search engine may find the excessive content useful as it may provide contextual interpretation of the web page. However, the excessive content may impede a visitor’s website interaction as it is estimated that the average visitors will often view a web page for 45-60 seconds and read a maximum of 200 words only. During the process of identifying the contradictory search engine optimisation (SEO) elements and website usability (WU) attributes, three journal articles were written, with two journal articles following their own research methodologies and the third journal article utilising all the research results in order to create the fused SEO and WU model. Journal Article 1: Two websites were used as part of the experiment: • Control Website (CW): http://www.copywriters.co.za • Experimental Website (EW): http://www.copywriters.co.za/ppc/. The CW is an existing website with no special emphasis applied to SEO and/or WU. The EW was developed by implementing the WU attributes and ignoring all contradictory SEO elements. In order to ensure integrity of the experiment, search engines were denied access to the EW. The traffic sources for the CW were search engines (organic) traffic, as well as direct and referrer traffic.

Resumo: O propósito deste trabalho é discutir a escrita que se propõe como conversação nas páginas eletrônicas pessoais, as chamadas home pages*, da internet. Mais especificamente,analisamos de que maneira o autor de uma home page constrói uma projeção de si, valendo-se, por exemplo, de certas marcas de enunciação e de certos sinais gráficos para o estabelecimento da relação dessa imagem com o leitor. O material da pesquisa é composto por 50 (cinqüenta) páginas eletrônicas pessoais, coletadas de maneira aleatória, entre as disponíveis na internet. O modo de abordagem de nosso objeto de estudo é orientado por um enfoque teórico ligado às teorias da enunciação e da escrita,em especial aos estudos que priorizam a questão dialógica da linguagem e aos estudos que se ocupam das relações entre a modalidade escrita e a modalidade oral. Dois aspectos são privilegiados no desenvolvimento deste trabalho. O primeiro deles investiga a hipótese de surgimento de um novo gênero discursivo, constituído a partir da atividade de escrita das páginas eletrônicas pessoais. Para a investigação do que acreditamos ser um novo gênero, realizamos um estudo comparativo entre a escrita das home pages e a de outros tipos de escrita, como as apresentações pessoais em orelhas de livros impressos, as (auto)biografias,as cartasmanuscritas e os e-mails ,procurando identificar o que pode ser tomado como característico dessa escrita digital, no âmbito de convivência com outras práticas de escrita. De nosso ponto de vista, trata-se de um gênero de escrita caracterizado pela função fática da linguagem, isto é, por uma atividade marcada por fórmulas de comunicação mais rituais que informativas. Visando ao estabelecimento de um contato com o leitor (característico da função fática), o escrevente projeta uma imagem pessoal (uma personagem) que pareça simpática e, desse modo, estabelece, também, a simulação de uma intimidade para alcançar esse objetivo. O exercício da função fática, no entanto, mascara a confiscação da palavra nesse gênero de escrita: o escrevente tem o direito de se expressar, desde que seja de um determinado modo, e de nenhum outro. No trabalho de construção textual de uma imagem pessoal, o autor utiliza-se de determinados recursos da modalidade escrita, como certas marcas de enunciação e certos sinais gráficos. O segundo aspecto que privilegiamos diz respeito, portanto, ao modo de enunciação que caracteriza o gênero de escrita das home pages. Procuramos investigar o trabalho de divisão enunciativa entre o autor, o "herói" (a personagem construída) e o leitor das páginas pessoais no estudode sua materialidade lingüística.Para o cumprimento dessa tarefa, consideramos alguns aspectos da modalidade escrita das homepages, a exemplo dos emoticons e das "risadinhas",comumente empregadosna escrita digital;da questão da pontuação (e sua relação com a prosódia) nos textos digitais, e de uma investigação lexical dos textos das homepages, dada a utilização freqüente de termos da área de informática, principalmente, aqueles que são tomados da língua inglesa e incorporados à língua portuguesa sem tradução. Abstract: The purpose of this study is to discuss the writing that proposes itself as conversation in home pages of internet. Our aim is to analyze how the author of a home page builds a self projection by using, for instance, certain marks of enunciation and graphical signs to establish a relationship between this self projection and the reader of the page. The material of this research is composed by 50 (fifty)home pages casually collected at internet. Our method is related to the theories of enunciation and writing and specially to those studies which emphasize dialogy in languageand the relation between writing modality and oral modality. Two main aspects are focused: the first one is the hypothesis of the emergence of a new discoursive gender, established by the activity of writing in homepages. To investigate this probable new gender, we elaborate a comparative study between the writing in homepages and another sort of writing, as the self presentations on the cover of traditionally impressed books, the (auto)biographies,the manuscript letters and the e-mails.We look for the main caracteristics of thisdigital writing, as it is established relating itself to other practices of writing. In our opinion, this newgender is characterized by the phatic function of language, that means, by an activity marked by rithualistic formulas of communication less than by informative ones. Looking for establishing a contact with the reader (characteristical of the phatic function), the author of a home page projects a selfimage (a character) that seems niee, simulating an intimacy to reach bis aim. However, the practice of the phatic function masks the confiscation of the word in this gender of writing: the author has the right to express himself, but only in a determinate way. To build bis self image, the author brings recourses from the writing modality, as certain marks of enunciation and graphical signs. So, the second aspect we focus refers to the mode of enunciation that characterizes the gender of writing in home pages. We investigate the functioning of an enunciative division between the author, the "hero" (the built character) and the reader of the home pages in the study of their linguistic materiality.For that, we consider some aspects of writing modality in home pages, as the emoticons and "giggles" commonly used in digital writing, considering also the question of punctuation (and its relation to prosody) in digital texts, and the one of lexical investigation of the texts in the homepages, as we notice that terms from the technological area are often employed, mainly the ones which are taken from English and incorporated in Portuguese writing with no translation

Este trabalho é uma análise do hipertexto veiculado pela Internet sob a ótica da Análise do Discurso e da Semântica Histórica da Enunciação. Temos como ponto de partida uma discussão sobre os aspectos do suporte digital de textos e as mudanças que podem causar no processo de construção do significado. O objetivo é estudar os movimentos efetuados durante a navegação pela Internet e verificar se o processo de abertura e fechamento de páginas pode afetar a construção de sentidos. O corpus foi coletado de um Website jornalístico (CNN.com), o qual cobriu as primeiras horas posteriores ao ataque de 11 de Setembro nos EUA. Esse ato inédito contra o território americano inspirou um grande volume de produção de textos, além de a Internet ter sua primeira chance de cobrir um evento dessa proporção. Assim, tanto o ataque quanto a cobertura dessa mídia podem ter gerado elementos novos que contribuíram para a formação de outros métodos de se escrever e ler a notícia. Em nossa análise, observamos elementos verbais e não-verbais, bem como a importância desses componentes que não apenas dão forma à identidade do hipertexto, mas também contribuem para o processo de apreensão de sentidos. A ativação desses elementos proporciona à Internet um sistema de operação intertextual que pode demonstrar algumas mudanças na maneira em que as informações são processadas por aqueles que as produzem e pelos outros que as lêem.
This is an analysis of the hypertext in the Internet using principles of Discourse Analysis and Historic Semantics which starts from a discussion about some features of the digital text support and the changes it may be causing in the process of signification. The objective is to study the movements made during the navigation of the Internet and verify if the process of opening and closing pages may affect the meaning formation. The corpus has been collected from a journalistic Website (CNN.com) that covered the first hours after the attack of September 11th in the USA. This unprecedented act against the American territory inspired an enormous amount of text production and the Internet had the first chance of covering an event of such a magnitude. Therefore both the attack and this media coverage may have provided firsthand elements that may have helped to found different methods of writing and reading the news. In the analysis we have observed verbal and non-verbal elements and the importance of these components that not only format the identity of the hypertext but also contribute to the process of meaning apprehension. The activation of these elements gives the Internet a system to operate inter-textual relations that may show some changes in the way information is processed by ones who produce it and the ones who read it.

Los medios digitales han generaron dos efectos importantes en el ámbito de Ciencias de la Comunicación. El primero, es que ha transformado la pasividad de los consumidores para convertirlos en prosumidores. Es decir, que hoy no solo se recibe un mensaje, sino que se empodera a las personas, permitiéndoles generar su propio contenido en múltiples plataformas, dándole a la comunicación un estilo bidireccional (POLO 2011:34). A su vez, estos medios han hecho que la relación entre consumidores y marcas sea cada vez más humana, cercana y directa (MERODIO 2012:28). Sin lugar a dudas, hoy en día el marketing digital cobra mucha más relevancia, pues las marcas deben innovar en la forma de comunicarse con sus consumidores. Logrando no solo tener medios novedosos para alcanzar a más personas, sino una oportunidad para generar un vínculo emocional mucho más fuerte con ellos. Precisamente, una de esas plataformas son las redes sociales, donde, según datos del estudio Futuro Digital de COMSCORE, el promedio global de horas por mes que una persona puede estar conectada es de 5 horas, mientras que el promedio en los latinoamericanos es alrededor de 9 horas (COMSCORE 2013). Perú no es ajeno a esta realidad, pues se sabe, según datos del mismo estudio, pasamos en promedio 7 horas al mes conectados a las redes sociales, siendo nuestro consumo más alto que el promedio global y perteneciendo a los cuatro países más involucrados en redes sociales de Latinoamérica (COMSCORE 2013). Así la red social Facebook ya tiene más de 12 millones de cuentas abiertas por usuarios peruanos. Lo cual me llevó a cuestionarme lo siguiente: ¿Cuán lejos puede llegar el aporte de las redes sociales en las estrategias de marketing? Para resolver esta inquietud, decidí analizar de cerca una estrategia de marketing desplegada a través de redes sociales. En un mercado muy competitivo para las marcas, las estrategias de marketing no solo apuntan a que recordemos una marca o a influenciarnos a la compra de una de ellas. Hoy las estrategias se ponen una valla más alta y buscan una relación emocional y a largo plazo con el consumidor, en pocas palabras buscan fidelizarlo. Es por ello, que la presente tesis presenta el tema las estrategias de fidelización de marca a través de redes sociales. Para ello necesitaba un caso de una marca peruana que pudiese demostrarlo.

Esta dissertação busca, através da literatura pertinente e do estudo de caso, embasar os conceitos teóricos e práticos para se propor elementos estratégicos que visam transformar a home-page da instituição estudada em um portal, como estratégia de marketing. Identifica as mídias mais acessadas e preferidas pelo seu público-alvo, bem como avalia as mídias que a instituição utiliza para vender serviços, divulgá-los ou comunicar-se com esse público. A ação de benchmarking faz parte da análise do ambiente externo, uma vez que é necessário saber o que a concorrência está fazendo, especialmente, nessa área da prestação de serviços. Certamente, quando se avalia a viabilidade de uso dessa mídia eletrônica como veículo de informação, publicidade e venda de serviços, este trabalho contempla uma ampla pesquisa científica da conceituação teórica sobre estratégia, marketing e tecnologia para se obter a consistência de dados necessária à proposta da transformação pretendida. Por fim, apresenta um modelo prático para atender aos objetivos das instituições de ensino em geral a partir de um estudo de caso do Cotemig - Colégio e Faculdade. Neste sentido, acredita-se que esta dissertação agrega valor científico ao tema ao propor o uso da tecnologia, especialmente, via Internet, na prestação de serviços, nele se incluindo o marketing e a educação.

The library profession is now heavily involved in providing access to information through library web sites and it is a challenge to design a web site that has reliable content and a user interface that is intuitive to those who use it. As web accessibility and usability are major issues in the design of library Web sites, this paper suggests that the design will be most successful when a usability analysis tool is used throughout the design and redesign of academic library web sites. The research drew on the literature of Human-computer Interaction and usability engineering examining best practice usability and accessibility design guidelines. It identified those guidelines that were relevant to academic library web sites. In order to establish the extent to which Australian academic library web sites met usability guidelines a usability analysis tool was developed and used to evaluate a randomly selected sample of web sites. The web sites were categorised under higher education institutional archetypes as suggested by DETYA (1998) and the results were discussed in light of these groups. The research found that there was no correlation of the usability of the web sites between the archetypes. In fact the pattern of usability was randomly distributed across all institutions, with the best and worst results appearing in each archetypical category. The study concluded that the web has provided a whole new start for all institutions and after examining the results, it suggested that the design of early web sites was not based on the size or the past history of the institution that it belonged to, but rather reflected those factors, already established in the literature, that faced library web managers at that time, when designing the library web page.

The implementation of the Semantic Web has a problem, namely, that the Semantic Web ignores the different types of already-existing resources in the current implementation of the Web. The semi-structured nature of the Web makes it quite difficult to retrieve information relevant to specific users' needs. As a result, today's Web and the next-generation Semantic Web are not interoperable. The goal of this dissertation was to make the already-existing resources in the current implementation of the Web more meaningful to the Semantic Web without taking-away the openness of the Web. A framework was introduced that created a catalog of Internet resources that allows multi-access points to different resources and allows agents to discover the sought-after knowledge. These lookup fields were implemented in this Internet cataloging framework. This catalog was established to help computer-to-computer communication and information retrieval in general. The framework contributed to research in two ways: First, a prototype was created that can be used as a source for searching on the Internet. Second, the framework implemented the latest technologies of the Semantic Web to create the prototype.

Vårt mål är även att undersöka hur inställningen ser ut för applikationer och responsiva webbplatser bland användare samt hur dessa åsikter skiljer sig mellan olika användarmålgrupper. Tillsammans med information från tidigare forskning har en studie utförs för att undersöka för- och nackdelar mellan appar respektive responsiva webbplatser. I våra undersökningar har vi valt att använda oss av två datainsamlingsmetoder: en kvantitativ webbenkät och semistrukturerade kvalitativa intervjuer, som komplement till varandra. Totalt nio intervjuer har gjorts med tre personer ur varje Riksarkivets huvudmålgrupper. En webbenkät har även publicerats på Riksarkivets och Stockholms stadsarkivs webbplatser.
This paper reports a study in how a search service on the Internet can be completed either through a mobile application or through a responsive website, to facilitate use on a smartphone. The focus of the study is on the National Archives' search service National Archives Database (NAD), which is not currently adapted to mobile devices. Our aim is also to investigate how the attitude looks for applications and responsive websites among users and how these views differ between user groups. Together with data from previous research, a study was conducted to examine the pros and cons between apps and responsive websites. In our investigations we have chosen to use two methods of data collection: a quantitative web survey and semi-structured qualitative interviews, to complement each other. A total of nine interviews were conducted with three members from each of National Archives' main target groups. An online survey has also been published on the National Archives and Stockholm stadsarkivs websites.

Companies have looked for many new ways to communicate with their customers. In the current scenario, Facebook has proven to be an efficient communication tool between consumers and businesses. This study aims to understand the differences in the complaint messages sent to companies, through an experiment that measured the emotional tone and the lack of formality in each message received by the website and the Facebook page of the company. As expected, people are more informal on Facebook. However, contrary to our intuition, participants tended to display more emotions on the company website. The social norms theory and the impression management contributed to explain the phenomena found.
As empresas têm procurado encontrar diversas novas maneiras de se comunicar com seus clientes. No atual cenário, o Facebook tem se mostrado uma eficiente forma de comunicação entre consumidores e empresas. Este estudo busca entender as diferenças nas reclamação enviadas para empresas, através de um experimento que mede o nível de emoção e comprometimento com a formalidade em mensagens recebidas através do website e a página do Facebook da empresa. Como esperado, as pessoas são mais informais no Facebook. Porém, contrariando nossa intuição, tendem a demonstrar mais emoções no website da empresa. A teoria de normas sociais e de gestão de auto-imagem ajudaram a explicar os fenômenos encontrados.

This master's thesis is a grounded theory study of the development of the Internet as a tool for political action in Japan by groups and individuals producing web pages on the issue of history textbook reform. Through the analysis of 14 in-depth interviews, a framework is developed for understanding the role the Internet has taken in political action in Japan. As activists utilize the Internet in political activism, the Internet appears to be developing into an anchor for continuing political activism. For activists, the Internet is a central point of reference for both mass communication and interpersonal communication activities. The model indicates that the political alignment of an activist is an important factor in determining his or her preference for either interpersonal or mass communication on the Internet. Activists on the left tend to use the Internet as a tool for interpersonal communication and coordination, while activists on the right tend to view the Internet as a tool for mass persuasion. The model of Internet activism developed in the thesis is also compared with models of communication derived from theories of technological determinism and social shaping of technologies. Consistent with technological determinist ideas, the Japanese case demonstrates that as activists rely on the Internet, other media show signs of becoming content for the new medium. However, the Japanese case also shows that pre-existing needs and the political framework of an activist have a strong shaping effect on Internet use, indicating the importance of a social shaping of technologies approach.

This dissertation represents an in depth examination of the cultural practices, technological affordances and political economic forces that inform the publics and counterpublics formed on the website reddit. Through interpretivist netnography, textual analysis and document analysis, the research presented here establishes a variety of different events (both historical and contemporary) and discourses that have taken place on the site and shows how these events and discourses are emblematic of contemporary neoliberal ideologies. Drawing on the theoretical tradition of the “public sphere” established by Jürgen Habermas, this research concludes that reddit shows the potential for an effective public sphere through digital technology. However, despite this potential, much of the discourse on reddit reinforces traditional neoliberal ideologies; furthermore, actions on behalf of the administration, moderators and users on the sites also indicate that while reddit has afforded individuals the opportunity to change federal political policy, these events do not translate into an inclusive public sphere that escapes the neoliberal trappings of technological fetishism.

El marco de trabajo usado fue Scrum puesto que permitía entregar versiones del software de manera periódica esto gracias a su desarrollo iterativo e incremental. Otro objetivo de la landing page es disminuir el tiempo de entrega de la póliza al usuario, esto se logró gracias a la automatización de varios procesos en el flujo de compra del seguro. El resultado de la implementación de la landing page permitió agilizar el proceso de compra del seguro digital de salud logrando la satisfacción del usuario.

It also seeks to examine whether the questions that ZAZI campaign sets are consistent with the informant’s attitudes and motives. Rationale: The result may be used to improve the campaign whose ultimate goal is to prevent the spread of HIV / AIDS by strengthening women's self-efficacy and confidence. Questions: What are the selected informant’s motives for using Facebook in general? What attitudes and motives do the selected South African Facebook users have toward commenting on the questions on the ZAZI campaigns Facebook page? How are the selected informants’ attitudes and motives consistent with the type of questions the campaign set? Method: Content analysis and focus groups. Result: The study indicate that the motives for writing on the ZAZI campaign's Facebook page differs depending on socio-economic status and that the campaign should vary the content of the questions so all women's motives become satisfied. The page appears, for those groups with a lack of socio-economic status, to serve as a platform that encourages and create conversations about private matters. Le recours à des réseaux tels que Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Skype, Instagram etc., se manifeste comme un passage obligatoire, tant pour les acteurs politiques que pour les citoyens « ordinaires ». La présente recherche retrace l'usage politique et les logiques de mobilisation et de la production de parole politique sur les RSN dans le contexte de la crise syrienne en 2011. Elle questionne, à travers l'analyse de cas de la page The Syrian Revolution 2011, les possibilités que ces RSN offrent aux usagers dans l'instauration d'espaces de mobilisations et d'interactions collectives. Notre analyse s'est organisée pour couvrir deux périodes : la première s'étale de 18 janvier au 14 mars 2011, quant à la seconde, elle s'étend du 15 mars au 30 avril 2011. Ce découpage permet de comprendre le passage d'un mode opératoire à un autre en fonction du changement du contexte politique et de la dégradation de la situation dramatique en Syrie. Notre recherche question également la place de la discussion politique en ligne dans l'élaboration des cadres d'action collective. Elle montre que ces derniers sont, activés, adoptés et diffusés à travers des logiques propres aux pratiques sociotechniques offertes par les RSN. Ainsi, notre étude peut apporter une contribution, nous l'espérons, originale dans le champ de l'analyse des RSN. Elle montre comment ces derniers peuvent constituer un espace de mobilisation d'information à travers duquel les usagers peuvent développer différentes pratiques communicationnelles
During the last decade, the political use of the Internet and Social Network Sites (SNS) has tremendously increased. Using networks such as Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Skype, Instagram, etc., has become a must for both political actors and ordinary citizens. Using as a framework the Syrian crisis in 2011, this research will follow the evolution of the political use of SNS in addition to the logics of mobilization and the production of the political speech in these networks. Through the analysis of the Facebook Page the Syrian Revolution 2011, it will question the possibilities that these SNS provide to the users to create mobilizations spaces and collective interaction. Our analysis covered two periods of time: the first one from January 18th to March 14th 2011, and the second from March 15th to April 30th 2011. This will help us better understand the change from one operational mode to another based on the change of the political context and on the degradation of the dramatic situation in Syria. Our research questions the place of the political discussion online and its parts on the creation of collective actions frames. It shows that these frames are activated, adopted and spread in ways that are specific to the social and technical practices provided by the SNS. From this perspective, we hope that our study can bring an original contribution in the analysis of the SNS field. It shows how these networks can be an area for mobilization of information that would help users develops various communication practices

It’s predicted that the usage of IoT devices will increase significantly during the upcoming years.   Microsoft has a service named Azure IoT Hub, which is designed for easy administration of IoT devices, but Azure IoT Hub provides no user interface to administer these IoT devices. The task of this project is to create a user interface for Azure IoT Hub.
IoT (Internet of Things) är enheter som vanligtvis är utrustade med olika slags sensorer, dessa sensorvärden skickas sedan till en server där dessa värden på något sätt bearbetas. Det förutspås att användandet av IoT enheter kommer att öka signifikant under de kommande åren.   Microsoft har en tjänst som heter Azure IoT Hub, vilket är designat för att enkelt administrera IoT enheter, men Azure IoT Hub tillhandahåller inget gränssnitt för att kunna administrera dessa IoT enheter. Uppdraget för detta projekt var därför att skapa ett gränssnitt för Azure IoT Hub.

The rapid expansion of Internet use at the turn of the 21st century brought with it a new medium of commerce. As the Internet started to act as a substitute for traditional retail and service sectors, an important economic question has been the impact of this change on mar- ket structure in different industries. This dissertation examines the changing structure of two particular industries in this new era of the Internet: the banking industry and Yellow Pages advertising. Chapter I examines whether bank branches are still important in attracting deposits from consumers. Despite their historic role in helping commercial banks to grow, branches may be decreasing in importance today due to the widespread use of Internet banking. The paper develops a structural dynamic model of consumer demand for bank deposits. The model is estimated using yearly bank level data for all commercial banks in Massachusetts from 2001 to 2009. Results show that branching still affects market shares significantly, however, the impact is declining over the sample period. Chapter II analyzes consumer welfare in the banking industry. The purpose of the paper is to measure the impact of recent changes in bank characteristics on consumer welfare. Specifically, the goal is to examine how the increase in the number of branches and the decrease in the average distance of these branches to consumers have impacted consumer welfare. Average consumer welfare is found to be 4.2% higher in 2009 compared to 2001. Estimation of two counterfactuals reveals that both of the changes in bank characteristics have been beneficial to consumers. Chapter III focuses on the Yellow Pages advertising market. The goal of the study is to estimate how the extensive use of Internet has affected prices and market structure in the Yellow Pages advertising market. In contrast to most of the recent empirical literature, this paper considers the impact of Internet use on prices in addition to market structure. The main finding is that an increase in Internet use in a given directory's coverage area is associated with an increase in printed advertising prices and a decrease in the number of publishers.

This thesis is concerned with a brief summary of the theory of Pade approximants and one of its applications to Finance. Proofs of most of the theorems are omitted and many developments could not be mentioned due to the vastness of the field of Pade approximations. We provide reference to research papers and books that contain exhaustive treatment of the subject. This thesis is mainly divided into two parts. In the first part we derive a general expression of the Pade approximants and some of the results that will be related to the work on the second part of the thesis. The Aitken's method for quick convergence of series is highlighted as Pade[L/1] . We explore the criteria for convergence of a series approximated by Pade approximants and obtain its relationship to numerical analysis with the help of the Crank-Nicholson method. The second part shows how Pade approximants can be a smooth method to model the term structure of interest rates using stochastic processes and the no arbitrage argument. Pade approximants have been considered by physicists to be appropriate for approximating large classes of functions. This fact is used here to compare Pade approximants with very low indices and two parameters to interest rates variations provided by the Federal Reserve System in the United States.

TechSat21 is an innovative satellite program sponsored by the Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. Its mission is to control a cluster of satellites that, when combined, create a “virtual satellite” with which to conduct various experiments in sparse aperture sensing and formation flying. Because TechSat21 customers have a need to view very large data sets that vary from the payload to the satellite state of health1 a modern viewing method using Java Server Pages and Active Server Pages is being developed to meet these interactive dynamic demands.

In contemporary times internet plays without doubts, a key role in our life. It is one of the most effective information channels of modern economy and a powerful tool of citizen society. Great number of new web pages is created daily and the competition is becoming stronger. This Diploma Thesis is dealing with the information architecture of web pages and applications an its significance for projects of Web2.0 In our territory, "information architecture" is relatively new term and therefore, the first part of the thesis endeavor to define it. It attempts to emphasize that the web page is not a pretty picture only but it must contain well-designed communication of the goals of the page creation. For attaining them, it is essential to define precisely the expectation at the very beginning. On the other hand, it is also necessary to have on mind the web users who opens the page for to fulfill their specific needs and with their own expectations. Web page therefore should meet both the goals of the designers and expectations of the users. Further part of the introductory chapter deals with the history of the information architecture having its roots in the sphere of the information design. Beside other topics, there is discussed the work of Ladislav Sutnar, who significantly contributed to the development of this topic. The following chapter deals with the process of the information architecture design proper. It is not a detailed instruction for web page creation, but rather a description of individual steps and factors able to influence substantially the web page presentation success. The last part is devoted to the recently frequently referred phenomenon of Web 2.0. There was attempted to describe its principles and answer the question whether it is only an empty word used as attractive label for promotion of certain projects or really a new direction in the web development. Then there is discussed the influence of Web 2.0 on the information architecture and whether this topic is for its design necessary at all.

Le phénomène de floculation, résultant de l'enchevêtrement des fibrés en suspension, affecte la qualité de la feuille de papier. En effet, la floculation provoque une répartition hétérogène des fibres dans le produit final. La connaissance des caractéristiques mécaniques de la floculation est donc importante pour améliorer la qualité du papier fabriqué. Dans ce travail nous étudions l'écoulement de pâte à papier dans des canalisations droites de section rectangulaire et dans la même canalisation coudée (540°). Nous nous intéressons à différentes pertes de charge dans ce dispositif avec et sans la pâte à papier. Des comparaisons du coefficient de frottement entre les parties rectilignes et courbes sont données pour l'écoulement en eau et pour l'écoulement de pâte à papier. La réduction du frottement, observée par rapport à l'écoulement en eau comme dans le cas d'une conduite, se retrouve également dans le cas de la canalisation aussi bien droite que courbe. Ce comportement a permis de généraliser la loi de similitude des écoulements de pâte à papier donnée par Skali. La dernière partie de ce document est consacrée à l'analyse des forces appliquées sur une fibre dans la canalisation coudée et à la recherche d'une relation entre ces forces et la distance de la migration transversale mesurée expérimentalement.
