This paper analyses the shifting images of Chinese medicine and rural doctors in the narratives of literature and film from 1949 to 2009 in order to explore the persisting tensions within rural medicine and health issues in China. Popular anxiety about health services and the government’s concern that it be seen to be meeting the medical needs of China’s most vulnerable citizens – its rural dwellers – has led to the production of a continuous body of literary and film works discussing these issues, such as Medical Practice Incident, Spring Comes to the Withered Tree, Chunmiao, and Barefoot Doctor Wan Quanhe. The article moves chronologically from the early years of the Chinese Communist Party’s new rural health strategies through to the twenty-first century – over these decades, both health politics and arts policy underwent dramatic transformations. It argues that despite the huge political investment on the part of the Chinese Communist Party government in promoting the virtues of Chinese medicine and barefoot doctors, film and literature narratives reveal that this rustic nationalistic vision was a problematic ideological message. The article shows that two main tensions persisted prior to and during the Cultural Revolution, the economic reform era of the 1980s, and the medical marketisation era that began in the late 1990s. First, the tension between Chinese and Western medicine and, second, the tension between formally trained medical practitioners and paraprofessional practitioners like barefoot doctors. Each carried shifting ideological valences during the decades explored, and these shifts complicated their portrayal and shaped their specific styles in the creative works discussed. These reflected the main dilemmas around the solutions to rural medicine and health care, namely the integration of Chinese and Western medicines and blurring of boundaries between the work of medical paraprofessionals and professionals.

The integration of art and science remains a popular subject until now. There are many studies on the connection between art and other scientific disciplines of the Renaissance, but there is still room to explore the relationship between art and medicine, especially with anatomy. Therefore, the paper begins with a retrospective on anatomical progress during the Renaissance and a brief introduction to Michelangelos life and his research experience in anatomy. Then, taking Michelangelos David as a critical point, several manifestations in the sculpture related to human anatomy are precisely dissected by reviewing literature and analyzing artwork. This is followed by an exploration of the reasons to the connection between art and science, ultimately illustrating the impact of this trend on modern society. The conclusions of this paper demonstrate the relationship between art and science is that art carries science, and science inspires art. The interdisciplinary convergence of the two still has a powerful vitality and profound meaning nowadays.

Background Open science practices are implemented across many scientific fields to improve transparency and reproducibility in research. Complementary, alternative, and integrative medicine (CAIM) is a growing field that may benefit from adoption of open science practices. The efficacy and safety of CAIM practices, a popular concern with the field, can be validated or refuted through transparent and reliable research. Investigating open science practices across CAIM journals by using the Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) guidelines can potentially promote open science practices across CAIM journals. The purpose of this study is to conduct an audit that compares and ranks open science practices adopted by CAIM journals against TOP guidelines laid out by the Center for Open Science (COS). Methods CAIM-specific journals with titles containing the words “complementary”, “alternative” and/or “integrative” were included in this audit. Each of the eight TOP criteria were used to extract open science practices from each of the CAIM journals. Data was summarized by the TOP guideline and ranked using the TOP Factor to identify commonalities and differences in practices across the included journals. Results A total of 19 CAIM journals were included in this audit. Across all journals, the mean TOP Factor was 2.95 with a median score of 2. The findings of this study reveal high variability among the open science practices required by journals in this field. Four journals (21%) had a final TOP score of 0, while the total scores of the remaining 15 (79%) ranged from 1 to 8. Conclusion While several studies have audited open science practices across discipline-specific journals, none have focused on CAIM journals. The results of this study indicate that CAIM journals provide minimal guidelines to encourage or require authors to adhere to open science practices and there is an opportunity to improve the use of open science practices in the field.

The Accordion, portable aerophone invented and patented in 1829 by Cyrill Damian in Austria, emerges in the 21st century as one of the most versatile instruments in the history of music [1]. Several factors contribute to this connection: portability, multi-timbral sound, ability to play melody and accompaniment, possibility of performing counterpoint, independence of hands, among other characteristics. In this context, the second half of the 20th century was crucial for an unprecedented development both in organological, interpretative and compositional terms. The Accordion versatility extends today from popular and traditional music to contemporary music, passing through Jazz. In the field of transcribing works, the accordion's features allow you to approach works from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic periods, among others, either solo or in chamber music. Asas, a work for Accordion, Soprano Voice, Saxophone, Viola and Cello composed by Christopher Bochmann is a good example of the integration of the Accordion in the panorama of contemporary music and in the performative relationship with other instruments.

This article delves into the phenomenon of intertextuality in the Kabyle novel, focusing on its genesis as a literary genre and the dialogic strategies employed by Kabyle authors. The 20th century witnessed a decline in Kabyle literature due to societal changes. However, a resurgence with the emergence of Kabyle novelists who skillfully incorporated oral cultural heritage into their literary works. Notably, the first written works in prose, exemplified by Belaid At-Ali's Lwali n Udrar, signified a poetic rejuvenation in Kabyle literature. Subsequently, the 1970s witnessed the rise of the Kabyle novel, influenced by the establishment of publishing houses and the imperative to express Amazigh identity. Distinguished by its unique themes, forms, geographical specificity, and cultural roots, the Kabyle novel ingeniously incorporates oral traditions, such as proverbs and popular tales, through the art of intertextuality. The integration of oral traditions serves multiple purposes, including the preservation of Kabyle society's values, the promotion of the aesthetic significance of the Kabyle language, and the expression of personal viewpoints. Kabyle novelists employ diverse approaches to incorporate proverbs, either seamlessly blending them into the narrative fabric or demarcating them with quotation marks. Likewise, popular tales are artfully interwoven into the novels, with each author offering their distinctive interpretation. The interaction with oral tradition manifests itself through the use of narrative anachronism, references to legendary figures, and the incorporation of traditional symbolism. These elements contribute significantly to the cultural and aesthetic dimensions of Kabyle novels.

Introduction and objective Open science (OS) aims to make the dissemination of knowledge and the research process transparent and accessible to everyone. With the increasing popularity of complementary, alternative, and integrative medicine (CAIM), our goal was to explore what are CAIM researchers’ practices and perceived barriers related to OS. Methods We conducted an anonymous online survey of researchers who published in journals listed in Scopus containing the words “complementary”, “alternative”, or “integrative” medicine in their names. We emailed 6040 researchers our purpose-built electronic survey after extracting their email address from one of their publications in our sample of journals. We questioned their familiarity with different OS concepts, along with their experiences and challenges engaging in these practices over the last 12 months. Results The survey was completed by 392 researchers (6.5% response rate, 97.1% completion rate). Most respondents were CAIM researchers familiar with the overall concept of OS, indicated by those actively publishing open access (OA) (n = 244, 76.0%), registering a study protocol (n = 148, 48.0%), and using reporting guidelines (n = 181, 59.0%) in the past 12 months. Preprinting, sharing raw data, and sharing study materials were less popular. A lack of funding was reported as the greatest barrier to publishing OA by most respondents (n = 252, 79.0%), and that additional funding is the most significant incentive in applying more OS practices to their research (n = 229,72.2%). With respect to preprinting barriers, 36.3% (n = 110) participants believed there are potential harms in sharing non-peer-reviewed work and 37.0% (n = 112) feared preprinting would reduce the likelihood of their manuscript being accepted by a journal. Respondents were also concerned about intellectual property control regarding sharing data (n = 94, 31.7%) and research study materials (n = 80, 28.7%). Conclusions Although many participants were familiar with and practiced aspects of OS, many reported facing barriers relating to lack of funding to enable OS and perceived risks of revealing research ideas and data prior to publication. Future research should monitor the adoption and implementation of OS interventions in CAIM.

Independent component analysis (ICA) is a matrix factorization approach where the signals captured by each individual matrix factors are optimized to become as mutually independent as possible. Initially suggested for solving source blind separation problems in various fields, ICA was shown to be successful in analyzing functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and other types of biomedical data. In the last twenty years, ICA became a part of the standard machine learning toolbox, together with other matrix factorization methods such as principal component analysis (PCA) and non-negative matrix factorization (NMF). Here, we review a number of recent works where ICA was shown to be a useful tool for unraveling the complexity of cancer biology from the analysis of different types of omics data, mainly collected for tumoral samples. Such works highlight the use of ICA in dimensionality reduction, deconvolution, data pre-processing, meta-analysis, and others applied to different data types (transcriptome, methylome, proteome, single-cell data). We particularly focus on the technical aspects of ICA application in omics studies such as using different protocols, determining the optimal number of components, assessing and improving reproducibility of the ICA results, and comparison with other popular matrix factorization techniques. We discuss the emerging ICA applications to the integrative analysis of multi-level omics datasets and introduce a conceptual view on ICA as a tool for defining functional subsystems of a complex biological system and their interactions under various conditions. Our review is accompanied by a Jupyter notebook which illustrates the discussed concepts and provides a practical tool for applying ICA to the analysis of cancer omics datasets.

Individuals seek complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) for a variety of health conditions, and yoga is a popular CAM modality. Over the past few decades, yoga has become incorporated into hundreds of healthcare facilities, most commonly in large university medical centers. While research has shown yoga to be effective in reducing symptoms and improving outcomes in chronic health conditions, most patients seek yoga therapy on their own, as few primary care practitioners have incorporated yoga therapy into their practices. The purpose of this article is to describe the efforts of the Casey Health Institute to incorporate yoga therapy into their primary care integrative medicine center. At Casey Health, a full-time Clinical Yoga Specialist works alongside the physicians, nurses, and CAM providers in delivering care to a wide variety of patients. The majority of referrals to yoga therapy have been for pain-related musculoskeletal conditions, as well as hypertension, headaches, anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbances. Most patients attend weekly 60-minute individual sessions, and the Clinical Yoga Specialist stays in touch with the patient between appointments via telephone and email. T h e Clinical Yoga Specialist has become an integral part of Casey Health, participating in collaborative medical appointments in which two CAM practitioners provide simultaneous treatments to a patient. She also participates in the clinic's ongoing weight loss program. The Clinical Yoga Specialist spends one morning each week “floating” in the clinic, when she is on-call to the practitioners to assist in treatment and/or to introduce a yoga therapy experience to the patients. These brief interventions introduce the patients to the therapeutic benefits of yoga, while simultaneously demonstrating yoga's effectiveness to the healthcare providers. Casey Health has developed a unique teacher training program whose faculty includes senior Iyengar yoga teachers as well as physicians and CAM practitioners. Casey Health is incorporating clinical outcomes into their electronic medical record that can be used internally to assess comparable effectiveness and cost effectiveness of the different treatment modalities such as yoga therapy, providing evidence that eventually may lead to yoga therapy becoming an accepted treatment that is eligible for insurance reimbursement.

The article is devoted to the description of metaphor as a model of inferential knowledge. The specifics of understanding composite metaphors, which describe the elements of the sphere of non-material world, is studied on the material of scientific and popular science texts in German. The problem is important today because of the existing linguistic interest to the processes of generation and understanding of speech. On the base of four-dimensional integration theory developed by J. Fauconnier and M. Turner the paper describes an algorithm for the interaction of mental spaces that provide understanding of complex words (composites). In the article is used the method of modeling that involves the definitional analysis, as well as methods of generalization of concepts, comparison and synthesis. The theoretical significance of the article is determined by its contribution to the solution of methodological problems of the study of inferential knowledge in the field of scientific communication; of practical value are the results concerning the principles of schematization of the process of understanding, which can be used in the disciplines of the cognitive orientation. The specificity of understanding of complex words in a scientific text is the combination in the integrated mental space (blend) of two initial spaces: the first is the basis of metaphorical transfer; it correlates with knowledge about material objects familiar to a person; the second creates the perspective of understanding these objects. The total generic mental space is a link connecting the initial spaces; it is characterized by the inclusion of knowledge about a material object within a certain subject / professional area. The result of metaphorical rethinking and modification of the total generic space is a blend – the new knowledge adapted to the conditions of professional communication. The analysis of the material made it possible to conclude that the understanding of composite metaphors is the result of the formation of integrative conceptual units in the human mind, which allows to realize the metaphor as a model of inferential knowledge that is significant for thinking.

It was noted that the films popular among young people are multi-genre works which combine historical accuracy and autobiographical, melodramatic and action-film elements. The viewing motivation associated with watching films about the Great Patriotic War, analyzed in terms of the theory of usage and satisfaction, is a complex system of expectations. The authors distinguish 6 groups of normative expectations: identity and integration; establishment of pleasant environment and recognition; tension and sensation seeking; authenticity and cognitive satisfaction; escapism and imagination; surprise and spectacularity.Historical war films fulfil social functions (meeting young people's expectations of integration, establishing a pleasant environment and credibility), while being an entertaining media product appropriate to the youth mediahabitus (meeting expectations of spectacle, suspense and escapism). The authors state that historical films devoted to the events of the Great Patriotic War manage to successfully maintain a balance between format (proximity in terms of style and language to the youth audience) and content (ideological, patriotic message).

The purpose of this article is to analyze the state of development of our research in domestic and foreign historiography. To achieve this goal, the author considered the bulk of the scientific literature on the foreign policy of the sovereign Czech Republic. For the objective disclosure of the topic by the author, the literature was distributed according to the problem principle. The development of international relations of the CEE countries in the post-communist period and the Czech Republic, in particular, was covered in many scientific and popular science works. Among foreign researchers, the author singles out mainly Czech, Slovak, German and British. Such an ethno-geographical number of scientists is due to the specifics of the geopolitical location of the Czech Republic. Ukrainian researchers were viewed through the prism of domestic foreign policy. The article presents an analysis of scientific research in the field of the following issues: general transformational transformations in the CEE region, formation of the sovereign Czech Republic and national policy, experience of integration into the European Union and NATO, Visegrad cooperation, development of Czech-Slovak relations and formation of Ukrainian-Czech interstate cooperation. To fully and comprehensively cover the research problem, the author used a significant amount of material from periodicals in Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany. A review of the works used by domestic and foreign researcher’s shows that the vast majority of publications raise general questions about the course of domestic political transformation processes in the field of political science, economic or cultural research.

In human-aware planning, a planning agent may need to provide an explanation to a human user on why its plan is optimal. A popular approach to do this is called model reconciliation, where the agent tries to reconcile the differences in its model and the human's model such that the plan is also optimal in the human's model. In this paper, we present a logic-based framework for model reconciliation that extends beyond the realm of planning. More specifically, given a knowledge base KB1 entailing a formula phi and a second knowledge base KB2 not entailing it, model reconciliation seeks an explanation, in the form of a cardinality-minimal subset of KB1, whose integration into KB2 makes the entailment possible. Our approach, based on ideas originating in the context of analysis of inconsistencies, exploits the existing hitting set duality between minimal correction sets (MCSes) and minimal unsatisfiable sets (MUSes) in order to identify an appropriate explanation. However, differently from those works targeting inconsistent formulas, which assume a single knowledge base, MCSes and MUSes are computed over two distinct knowledge bases. We conclude our paper with an empirical evaluation of the newly introduced approach on planning instances, where we show how it outperforms an existing state-of-the-art solver, and generic non-planning instances from recent SAT competitions, for which no other solver exists.

The paper contains a contrastive analysis of two poems: Hristo Botev’s “Hadzhi Dimitar” (1873) and Ivan Vazov’s “The New Graveyard Above Slivnitsa” (1886). Throughout the 20th century both texts were regarded as highly representative of Bulgarian literature with strong influence on the modern national mythology. Their common theme (the death and glorification of national heroes), however, has not provoked intertextual analyses to date. The research leads to the conclusion that while Botev builds his symbolic system on the basis of Bulgarian folklore, Vazov relies on military metaphors and Christian notions, such as the righteous death, the Second Coming and eternity. This pattern, consistent with other works by the two authors, allows to comment on a literary confrontation that shares some similarities with Western European disputes between defenders of classicism and romanticism. In the case of Bulgarian literary history, Botev can be interpreted as the initiator of a long-lasting tradition of romantic glorification through transformation and integration of the folkloristic heritage (mainly the folk song), while Vazov’s classicist concepts had far fewer adherents. In the light of the conducted contrastive analysis the popular thesis, defended by Milena Tsaneva, about Botev and Vazov’s collaboration and continuity in creating the national poetic pantheon demands verification through the questions of confronting ideological and symbolic strategies towards revealing the uniqueness of modern Bulgarian identity.

In many real-world applications, the amount of data available for training is often limited, and thus inductive bias and auxiliary knowledge are much needed for regularizing model training. One popular regularization method is to impose prior distribution assumptions on model parameters, and many recent works also attempt to regularize training by integrating external knowledge into specific neurons. However, existing regularization methods did not take account of the interaction between connected neuron pairs, which is invaluable internal knowledge for adaptive regularization for better representation learning as training progresses. In this paper, we explicitly take into account the interaction between connected neurons, and propose an adaptive internal knowledge driven regularization method, CORR-Reg. The key idea of CORR-Reg is to give a higher significance weight to connections of more correlated neuron pairs. The significance weights adaptively identify more important input neurons for each neuron. Instead of regularizing connection model parameters with a static strength such as weight decay, CORR-Reg imposes weaker regularization strength on more significant connections. As a consequence, neurons attend to more informative input features and thus learn more diversified and discriminative representation. We derive CORR-Reg with Bayesian inference framework and propose a novel optimization algorithm with Lagrange multiplier method and Stochastic Gradient Descent. Extensive evaluations on diverse benchmark datasets and neural network structures show that CORR-Reg achieves significant improvement over state-of-the-art regularization methods.

The choice of the writer is determined by the facts of his biography, which is typical for the Russian literature of the turn of the XIX–XX centuries and which echoes the current situation in the moments of multifunctional realization of human creative abilities. The educational potential of the writer's journalism is emphasized, the presence of which in the journalistic educational process contributes to the formation of moral and aesthetic values and professional guidelines of future media specialists. Bunin's numerous connections with the newspaper and magazine world of Russia and the Russian abroad allow us to consider his journalistic heritage as a serious resource of professional media education. Examples of the involvement of individual journalistic works of the writer as a means to solve the main media educational tasks are given in the paper. They are the development of skills of search, purposeful selection, critical analysis and comprehension of the information received, verification of the reliability of facts, the creation of independent media products in traditional and new popular formats. It is concluded that the integration of the methodology of media reading of classical journalism into the process of training journalistic personnel orients future specialists to the perception and development of the traditions of Russian literature in accordance with the requirements of the modern information age.

The article deals with polyvalent nature of artistic narrative of a famous English science fiction writer John Wyndham. This research pursues the goal of providing a systematic and analytical overview of the creative heritage of the author, which involves an emphasis on the periodization of his writing activity. The last decades are marked by isolated, but important scientific and popular scientific works, which were written both by compatriots of the writer and by foreign researchers and highlight various literary aspects of Windham's literary activity. At the same time, the analysis of Wyndham's work is practically not implemented in modern Ukrainian English studies. Moreover, one of the artist's main novels appeared in a Ukrainian translation only a few years ago, without a foreword or an afterword. In this study, an attempt was made to create a holistic view of the evolution of Wyndham's work, which reached its peak in the 1950s − a period that can be called "golden" in connection with the extraordinary productivity and, which does not happen so often, the synchronous popularity of Wells’s disciple. J. Wyndham's novels continue to attract attention of both readers and critics, both filmmakers and viewers, both voiceover artists and audiobook listeners, both translators and publishers. Such long-lasting interest is explained by the multimodality of the narrative, the originality of the plot, the versatility of the thematic complexes, as well as the writer's empathy for people and being burdened by the permanent dynamics of transformative social processes. The problem-thematic clusters represented in Windham's work are consistent with the modern age, which is filled with controversial phenomena, trends and alarming eschatological predictions. The apocalyptic spirit is as relevant to the modern world as it is to other eras whose apparent integration suffers from the threat of destabilization. Despite its immanent macabreness, Wyndham's apocalyptic-dystopian discourse is imbued with faith, hope and love – eternal values that fill existence with meaning and inspire achievement.

Smart specialisation has become a popular approach to the strategic management of the innovative development of regional/national economies. However, there is no consensus in scientific circles on the theoretical origin of the concept of smart specialisation. Therefore, the purpose of the article is to analyze the influence of economic development theories on the formation of the theoretical basis of the concept of smart specialisation. It is established that the concept of smart specialisation is based on the definitions, patterns, and main factors of economic development defined by traditional economic schools. To form a systematized scientific knowledge about smart specialisation, the study focuses on modern economic theories that consider the possibilities of ensuring the development of economies based on knowledge and innovation. The article analyses the provisions of the theories of structural transformations, endogenous growth, evolutionary economics, agglomerations, innovative ecosystems and clusters, which are identified as the main ones that are related to and substantiate the ideas of smart specialisation. The most significant provisions of these theories from the point of view of forming the theoretical foundations of smart specialisation are highlighted. Based on the results of the conceptual analysis of the works of evolutionists, the author summarises the classes of industries by the organisation of innovation activity, indicating the peculiarities of innovation production depending on the sectoral affiliation of the participants involved in this process. The author emphasizes the coherence between the concept of smart specialisation and the theory of innovation ecosystems, which, unlike the concept of innovation systems, is more focused on creating conditions for productive collaboration of regional stakeholders in the process of entrepreneurial discovery. It is concluded that the concept of smart specialisation is a product of comprehension and organic integration of scientific views on achieving economic growth, choosing paths, using opportunities and ensuring innovative development of national/regional economies. The author’s vision of the theoretical basis of the concept of smart specialisation is presented, which, unlike the existing ones, specifies the pool of economic theories with the determination of their influence on the meaningful components of the concept of smart specialisation and singles out the theoretical core, functional components and axiomatic part of its basis, which theoretically substantiates the approach of smart specialisation.

Abstract Robots are rapidly growing technologies in simple words. Robots are artificial living things in this world that are created by humans for reducing human involvement in the top domains such as agriculture, medicine, and industries. Based on the requirements of work, robots are classified into six major categories. Robotic vehicles come under the division of autonomous mobile robots and automated guided vehicles. These vehicles are more popular in factories for supporting humans. Integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in a robotic vehicle gives the brain to the vehicle that can sense the surrounding environment and work accordingly without human operation. This article describes bibliometric research on the integration of AI in robotic vehicles. During the research, 1,196 documents are extracted from the Scopus database between 2015 till now. The types of publications included in this bibliometric analysis are articles, conference papers, reviews, book chapters, books, and short surveys that help understand the global research domain. The pictorial representation was made with the help of open-source platforms such as VOSviewer, GPS visualizer, Gephi, ScienceScape, and word cloud. Since time immemorial humans have utilized natural products and therapies for their healing properties. Even now, in the age of genomics and on the cusp of regenerative medicine, the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) approaches represents a popular branch of health care. Furthermore, there is a trend towards a unified medical philosophy referred to as Integrative Medicine (IM) that represents the convergence of CAM and conventional medicine. The IM model not only considers the holistic perspective of the physiological components of the individual, but also includes psychological and mind-body aspects. Justification for and validation of such a whole-systems approach is in part dependent upon identification of the functional pathways governing healing, and new data is revealing relationships between therapies and biochemical effects that have long defied explanation. We review this data and propose a unifying theme: IM’s ability to affect healing is due at least in part to epigenetic mechanisms. This hypothesis is based on a mounting body of evidence that demonstrates a correlation between the physical and mental effects of IM and modulation of gene expression and epigenetic state. Emphasis on mapping, deciphering, and optimizing these effects will facilitate therapeutic delivery and create further benefits.

The impetus for developing and implementing integrative medicine strategies is rooted in the desire to improve patient care. The Bravewell Collaborative, a philanthropic organization that works to improve healthcare, defines integrative medicine as “an approach to care that puts the patient at the center and addresses the full range of physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and environmental influences that affect a person's health. Employing a personalized strategy that considers the patient's unique conditions, needs, and circumstances, it uses the most appropriate interventions from an array of scientific disciplines to heal illness and disease and help people regain and maintain optimum health.” Over the past 2 decades, there has been documented growth in the number of clinical centers providing integrative medicine, the number of medical schools teaching integrative strategies, the number of researchers studying integrative interventions, and the number of patients seeking integrative care. But whether integrative medicine was being offered in the same, similar, or disparate ways was unknown. In addition, while previous studies focused on the prevalence and use of complementary or alternative medicine (CAM) by patients1,2 or by practitioners in hospital settings3 by enumerating the use of single CAM therapies, very little information had been collected regarding the actual practice of integrative medicine, which by definition treats the whole person. In 2011, The Bravewell Collaborative commissioned a survey to determine how integrative medicine was currently being practiced across the United States by (1) describing the patient populations and health conditions most commonly treated, (2) defining the core practices and models of care, (3) ascertaining how services are reimbursed, (4) identifying the values and principles underlying the care, and (5) determining the biggest factors driving successful implementation. Twenty-nine integrative medicine centers and programs across the nation were chosen to participate in the study. This group included the nine centers in The Bravewell Clinical Network plus 20 others that, directed by either a physician, other doctoral level healthcare practitioner, or nurse, were chosen on the basis of length of time in operation (a minimum of 3 years), patient volume, and/or prior clinical contributions to the field.

AbstractTo exemplify the legitimation processes of a pluralistic health field this article focuses on representations of Chinese medicine and its most popular spokes-person, Rene Bürkland, in the Estonian media. From 320 media texts published between 2009 and 2018 we chose 12 for close analysis with the aim of detecting specific discourses, untangling implicit meanings, and demonstrating the complexity of the rhetorical formulations used to legitimate Chinese medicine. We identified five key discourses – discourses of Bürkland’s charisma, holistic health, individual autonomy, subtle body, and integrative medicine – underpinning various legitimation strategies which aim to change the position of Chinese medicine from alternative to integrative. Our study reveals that the absence of scientific rhetoric together with key discourses has left Chinese medicine and its spokesperson without the attention of biggest critics of CAM and, therefore, has secured a positive image for Chinese medicine in the public discourse.

This article discusses the specific features of the artistic image, the artistic form of the screen, including animated works. The artistic image in animation is a complex and multilevel phenomenon that takes the expressive and visual form of the director's vision and conveys the content through the artistic form. The aim of the work is to attempt to define the "artistic image" in animated cinema. The object of the study is the form of an animated work as the integrity of its artistic concept, combining various audiovisual elements, involving a laborious technological embodiment on the screen, combining the expressive and visual form of the director's vision, his creative interpretation of the chosen plot. The author of the article suggests considering the animated image as an artistic phenomenon as one of the most important aspects characterizing the integrity of an animated film. The novelty of the work lies in an attempt to define such a concept as "the image of an animated film". The new empirical material presupposes the updating of the terminology of art criticism, including the film-making tools in the process of theoretical analysis of screen culture. In this perspective, it is necessary to clarify, expand and update the traditional terminology (in particular, the definition of an artistic image in animation) used in the artistic and aesthetic analysis of screen works. The results of the study can have both scientific and theoretical, and creative and practical application. The materials and conclusions of this article can be used as a conceptual and methodological basis for further scientific research.

This article examines hegemony spread through Japanese popular series, Doraemon. In 2008, the character Doraemon was made the Anime Ambassador and was sent around the world to campaign for Japanese popular culture. This appointment is part of the Japanese government's public diplomacy strategy. Doraemon is then synonymous with the perfect character figure, which has become one of the symbols of the progress of the Japanese state. Hegemony theory is used to dissect how ideology works through characters that have become state icons and are widely accepted with a very positive image. The results of the analysis show that patriarchal hegemony works through the depiction of scary female characters, male superiority, and the role of the media as a means of ideological dissemination. The Doraemon series preserves the patriarchy wrapped in a beautiful dream story of a future with Japan's advanced technology.

The literature was strongly influenced by the traditional model of health care, with ambivalent actions of care and managements, and the gap in knowledge regarding nurse care management in the FHS. It is expected that the nurse care management makes possible the deconstruction and construction of new practices of nurses.

Integrative medicine (IM) is a model of care which uses both conventional and nonconventional therapies in a “whole person” approach to achieve optimum mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, and environmental health, and is increasingly popular among patients and providers seeking to relieve chronic or multifactorial conditions. The US Department of Defense (DoD) shows particular interest in and usage of IM for managing chronic conditions including the signature “polytrauma triad” of chronic pain, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among its beneficiaries in the Military Health System (MHS). These modalities range from conventional nondrug, nonsurgical options such as cognitive-behavioral therapy to nonconventional options such as acupuncture, chiropractic, and mind-body techniques. These are of particular interest for their potential to relieve symptoms without relying on opiates, which impair performance and show high potential for abuse while often failing to provide full relief. This review describes the use of IM in the MHS, including definitions of the model, common therapies and potential for use, and controversy surrounding the practice. More research is needed to build a comprehensive usage analysis, which in turn will inform sound clinical and financial practice for the MHS and its beneficiaries.

The Republic of Korea plays one of the leading roles in the global economy and is a dynamically developing country. As one of the key elements of South Korea's success, many researchers in their works note the so-called concept of "soft power". The strategy of the contemporary notion of "soft power" of the Republic of Korea is based on the dissemination of traditional cultural values and pop culture. South Korea places a great emphasis on the "soft power" of culture, which helped it shape a positive image and create its South Korean attractive brand on the world stage. The main focus of this paper is to examine the essence of the Korean popular culture and its implementation in Central Asian states. Toward this objective, this research first explores the emergence and diffusion of Korean popular culture, especially with regards to globalization, soft power and value change. Further, its impact on CA will be considered in different perspectives. Aminonitriles are pharmacological-interest bioactive due to their promising antimicrobial and antitumor activity. Since cytotoxicity tests are inherent to the new drug development process, this work aimed to verify reports in the scientific literature on the cytotoxic effects of aminonitriles. The method adopted was an integrative review of works published in the last 10 years in the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases. Three articles that matched the selection and eligibility criteria were included in this review. A total of 33 aminonitriles were used in the cytotoxicity experiments, and of the nine molecules based on pyridine, two exerted moderate cytotoxic activity, of the twelve synthesized from benzimidazole, none showed cytotoxic activity, and of the twelve derived from renieramycins, all showed considerable cytotoxic activities. The studies used in this research evaluated the cytotoxic effects of aminonitriles with evident anticancer and antimicrobial activity. The importance of evaluating the cytotoxicity of aminonitriles is emphasized, as well as the need for investigative research that explores other evaluation methods in pre-clinical tests that may corroborate the existing findings, with a view to the development of therapies against emerging health problems.

Side effects and interactions are included in the discussion. However, with the regular and intended use of phytopharmaceuticals, the occurrence of adverse side effects is rather rare. Overall, the use of defined phytopharmaceuticals is recommended in the context of a rational integrative oncology approach.

Self-care results in individual physical and mental health benefits, however, if understood and carried out from an ethical perspective that incorporates community values. We set out to characterize the academic and non-scientific communities conceptions of self-care through an integrative review, which the hypothesis that the COVID-19 pandemic engendered a more global community-based conception of self-care. The research of 800 scientific articles and 1045 popular media evidenced dissonance between the scientific community’s approach to self-care, which has a relatively more clinical focus and an individual and physical nature, and the popular notions of physical and mental self-care that focus on self-awareness and well-being. The pandemic has influenced the application of self-care with the intensification of clinical analyses and reports and containment measures in international studies. The dialogical, deliberative, and regulatory nature of bioethics underlies the importance of the educational process in shaping citizens who understand self-care as a biological and ethical principle. We conclude that the pandemic opens a new chapter in the history as it impels individuals to look at themselves and others mutually, thus revealing self-care as an ethical principle, which demands a decision-making from a critical, autonomous, and proactive awareness that aims to promote global health.

The article deals with the representation of popular religiosity in the work of the artists Jorge Hidalgo Pimentel and José Emilio Leyva Azze. From engraving, painting, drawing and sculpture, both have recreated deities, various symbolic elements, orality, among other aspects that are part of the social imaginary in Cuba. The text chooses representative works of stages in which the artists assume the theme with greater permanence within their work. The examination has been carried out from a qualitative perspective that overlaps the formal analysis of the works and the hermeneutic method, as a generalizing interpretative framework. With different trajectories, motivations and poetics, Jorge Hidalgo and José Emilio Leyva contribute visions that demonstrate the survival of cultural practices rooted in the Cuban people, since they form an intrinsic part of their identity. The works contribute to the safeguarding of these manifestations of intangible cultural heritage. The evaluations given in the text also provide elements that enrich the critical body on this matter within the Holguín visual arts.

One of the most famous projective techniques around the world – G. Rorschach inkblot test. In many countries this technique is rather popular because it can give the chance of both the qualitative and quantitative analysis. This thesis is confirmed in research works of J. Eksner Institute. For several decades J. Eksner Institute (USA) have been collected psychometric data with using Rorschach test in various groups of the population. These studies make it possible to conduct a clinical and psychological studies and determine the mental status of the subject. Our research is devoted to informational content of Rorschach test of women who have difficulties in interpersonal interaction within their family (with an addictive partner). It was shown that with increase of manifestation intensity of codependent behavior also the orientation of codependent women in interpersonal interaction changes, the coding symbols (determinants), specific for the codependent women, in answers to the third table of Rorschach test (an integrative system of J. Eksner) were also revealed. The practical relevance of this research is that the obtained results can form a basis of express diagnostics of the women having difficulties in interpersonal interaction within the family (husbands, children).

AbstractThe calyx of the Hibiscus plant are used in the form of an infusion in popular medicine with the purpose of contributing to the weight loss of its users. Therefore, the objective of this work was to verify in the literature the therapeutic potential of Hibiscus sabdariffa tea for weight loss. This is an integrative review done in the following databases: Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, Web of Science. The final sample consisted of 6 articles. Half of the selected articles had the clear objective of evaluating weight loss, the others evaluated anti-metabolic and anti-stress properties, obesity-related adipogenesis and control of lipid indicators. In the selected studies, the most used part of the plant was the calyx, being fresh and dry. Factors such as the concentration and form of supply of the Hibiscus sabdariffa extract seem to be points to be taken into account in experiments that have food intake as an influence on the other variables. The studies brought evidence that Hibiscus sabdariffa extracts contribute to weight loss and to the suppression of weight gain in human and animal groups with metabolic disorders, without change for the healthy human/animal group. However, studies on the long-term maintenance of weight loss, once achieved, the efficacy and safety of its use, are still insufficient according to the collected evidence. Keywords: Weight Loss. Hibiscus. Tea. SummaryIn cancer research, high-throughput profiling studies have been extensively conducted, searching for markers associated with prognosis. Owing to the ‘large d, small n’ characteristic, results generated from the analysis of a single dataset can be unsatisfactory. Recent studies have shown that integrative analysis, which simultaneously analyses multiple datasets, can be more effective than single-dataset analysis and classic meta-analysis. In most of existing integrative analysis, the homogeneity model has been assumed, which postulates that different datasets share the same set of markers. Several approaches have been designed to reinforce this assumption. In practice, different datasets may differ in terms of patient selection criteria, profiling techniques, and many other aspects. Such differences may make the homogeneity model too restricted. In this study, we assume the heterogeneity model, under which different datasets are allowed to have different sets of markers. With multiple cancer prognosis datasets, we adopt the accelerated failure time model to describe survival. This model may have the lowest computational cost among popular semiparametric survival models. For marker selection, we adopt a sparse group minimax concave penalty approach. This approach has an intuitive formulation and can be computed using an effective group coordinate descent algorithm. Simulation study shows that it outperforms the existing approaches under both the homogeneity and heterogeneity models. Data analysis further demonstrates the merit of heterogeneity model and proposed approach.

In the article, the literary works of Baltic German writer Carl Hugenberger have been explored. Anthology of his poetry translations, “Derrigs laika kaweklis” (Useful Pastime, I–II, 1826–1827), has been analysed. The anthology was significant in the emancipation of Latvian literary culture and liberation from moral didacticism as well as the development of the self-sufficient aesthetic value of literature. Thus, the anthology prepared the way for the formation of Latvian national literature in the mid-19th century. Special attention has been turned towards Hugenberger’s translations of poems by Johann Wolfgang Goethe and Friedrich Schiller. Besides, the evaluation and reception of Hugenberger’s works have been explored. The article concludes that despite the innovative role and poetic achievements of Hugenberger’s poetry, it did not gain popularity among wider circles of the Latvian reading public and met criticism regarding the shortcomings in the translation techniques that can be explained by the limits of the underdeveloped Latvian language at the time. The most important episodes in Hugenberger’s biography have been outlined as well as his religious hymns and works of popular enlightenment, including translations of “Schillings-Bücher des Rauhen Hauses”, a book series of German Inner mission, works by Jeremias Gotthelf, August Kotzebue, Gottfried August Bürger et al. Special attention has been paid to previously unidentified originals of Hugenberger’s translations – works by Matthias Claudius, Johann Hinrich Wichern, Heinrich Alexander Seidel, and Adolph Krüger as well as previously underexamined partial translation of Johann Peter Hebel’s “Allemanische Gedichte”. The literary works of Hugenberger have been interpreted within the context of the literary praxis of the late popular enlightenment in the Baltics.
