The phenomenon under investigation is the transition from an industrial society to a society that is based to a larger extent on knowledge resources. The question the authors are investigating is: What are the key value creation processes in a knowledge-based organization? The objective of the article is to understand and explain the social mechanisms that influence the development of knowledge-based organizations. The method used is conceptual generalization. The findings are linked to a new emphasis on information structure (infostructure), and a new way of organizing (front line focus), the modulization of work processes, and global competence clusters.

In recent years, the urgency of finding new forms, methods and organizational and economic mechanisms to improve personnel management in large industrial enterprises has increased. The article substantiates the theoretical principles of personnel management in large industrial enterprises in order to improve the mechanism of ensuring its efficiency. The study found that personnel management is to comprehensively assess the relations in the workforce, which are related to the hiring and supply of labour, its pay, staff turnover, trends and prospects. The purpose of personnel management is to provide employees with the necessary quantitative and qualitative parameters and the organization of their effective work. It is transformed into more specific goals, which are determined by the goals of the enterprise. It is revealed that it is expedient to apply an integrated approach to personnel management, the essence of which is to combine and interact process, system, situational and strategic approaches. The article clarifies the list of functions and tasks of personnel management in a large industrial enterprise, the difference of which is that it includes the entire list of management functions (forecasting, planning, organization, control, analysis, accounting, regulation) a single interconnected set of processes in management staff. On the basis of generalization of scientific developments and results of current practice of functioning of large industrial enterprises the priority directions of improvement of personnel management are offered: maintenance of conditions of professional development of personnel; improving the system of rationing and remuneration; improving working conditions, safety and security; development of social and labour relations and organizational culture in the digital economy; ensuring social protection in the postcoronavirus period; improving the efficiency of work with youth.

Article devoted to the analysis of personal, professional and organizational factors’ influence on level of procrastination in employees of modern Russian industrial organization. It was found that level of procrastination in employees determines special aspects of typical behavior patterns in occupational situation, subjective appraisal of job difficulties, personality and behavioral deteriorations and special aspects of organizational culture. The results of regression analysis revealed significant personal, professional and organizational predictors of procrastination in modern employees: outgoing (sociability), innovativeness, detail conscious and conscientious. Besides, work environment characteristics such as content and importance of job tasks are significant predictors of procrastination too. Personality and behavioral deteriorations (anxiety and depressive syndrome), adaptive collaborative process, social desirability make a contribution to regression model predictiveness.

Industrial companies are in a situation that requires them to reconsider their social sustainability agenda in order to attract new employees. Building upon interviews with CEOs and HR managers in 20 small medium enterprises (SMEs), this study aims to analyze how high-tech companies and industrial engineering companies define and implement social sustainability into business strategies and operations. Data was collected from 20 interviews and secondary information coded for categorical data analysis in SPSS Statistics 22 software. The findings show that although the companies have adopted several kinds of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards, social sustainability is still absent from their operational activities and is considered of lower importance than environmental sustainability. Thus, the implementation of social sustainability can be considered symbolic rather substantive. The study also shows differences between the two groups of companies. The high-tech company group pays little attention to social sustainability aspects, instead focusing on product innovation development. While the industrial engineering group has some interest in social sustainability, their focus is primarily on issues linked to health and safety in order to meet increasing demands from supply chain compliance. Neglecting social aspects of sustainability, such as addressing gender equality and diversity, may cause difficulties in attracting a new workforce.

The subject of this research is the documentation of party organization of the Moscow Automobile Factory named after I. A. Likhachev (known fully as the Public Joint-Stock Company – Likhachov Plant ZIL, Moscow Automobile Society AMO ZIL) as a source on history of the enterprise. The goal of this research consists  in determination of information capacity and possibilities of using documentary materials accumulated as a result of work of the primary party organizations of industrial enterprises of the Soviet period, namely with regards to the least studied aspects: social conditions, socio-psychological, and socio-cultural. The analysis of sources demonstrates that the materials of factory party organizations, particularly Moscow Automobile Factory named after I. A. Likhachev, represent one of the most valuable groups of sources in studying the history of a single company and industrial enterprise. They feature high information capacity on the key aspects of the company, including social. It is underlined that the party documentation was used by the Soviet researchers fragmentary and at times not objectively for multiple reasons; therefore, one of the tasks for the historians lies in comprehensive reconstruction of reliable scientific history of enterprises overall, and their party organizations in particular.

Emaús Bilbao Cooperative Company is a social economy and solidarity organization for socio-labour insertion. It is dedicated to the comprehensive management of solid urban waste. It has its headquarters in Bilbao and carries out its work in Vizcaya. From 1970, the year in which Emaús established itself in Vizcaya, to the present day, the organization has experienced an evolution which has led it to change its management direction. Gone are the days when they were only known as "the rag and bone men of Emaus" with all the connotations that were associated with that name. At present we find a company which has adopted new management formulas without losing the characteristics of its social and solidarity project. This has enabled it to face up to the prevailing conditions in today economic climate. In this way it has been able to guarantee its survival. The comprehensive management of solid urban waste is made up of four diverse parts: The location of the urban solid waste through the receiving of telephone calls, its collection and selection, and the final elimination of those things that can not be incorporated again into the consumer chain. Through this case, the problems that arise for the organization with reference to the management of Human Resources are analysed. These are related above all to the motivational and decision making aspects due to the diverse characteristics as much in their own workers as in the organization.

The relevance of the issues included in the title of the article is due to a complex of interrelated circumstances: on the one hand, the ambiguity of interpretations of the definition of “social policy of an organization” (SPO) and, in fact, the lack of methodological tools designed to diagnose its key parameters, and, on the other hand, the increasing importance of the SPO in creating social attractiveness and increasing the competitiveness of business entities. The noted circumstances determined the main working hypothesis of the study: the lack of methodological tools for diagnosing the social policy of an organization is due to the apparent diversification of interpretations of the SPO. The purpose of the study is to develop methodological tools for diagnosing the social policy of an organization that is adequate to the refined conceptual apparatus. As the main method of study, an essential-content analysis was used, with the help of which two complementary approaches (essentially-specific and situational-aspectual) to the interpretation of the social policy of the organization were identified, and its definition was proposed, corresponding to the dynamically changing priorities of the social-economic sphere. As a result of the study, a methodological toolkit for diagnosing the parameters of an organization’s social policy was developed (presented and comprehensively described in this article), consisting of 3 effective methods - diagnosing the type of SPO (including the development of the SPO Questionnaire and the SPO ID); assessment of the level of development of the organization’s social policy and rating assessment of the SPO success, allowing de facto confirmation of the status of “socially oriented organization”.

In the so-called historical periods of artisanal and industrial development, craft, social, and cultural practices have gained a new position in history and thus in the modern scale of values, their own time and place in the new framework of the «green economy». The formal contradiction between crafts and modernization can be removed if we consider the historical experience of crafts. With their genetic link to trade masters and their workshops, small- and medium-sized enterprises can be drivers of innovation through conservational, ecological, and socially neutral productive processes. The article attempts to outline the theoretical and methodological basis of a social topology of crafts as a new sphere in the philosophy of history and trades. Drawing on ancient, western European and Russian philosophy, the authors show that the social topology of trades can be seen as an alternative theoretical and methodological basis when researching the history of crafts, the development of their form and their deployment in space and time. The timeliness and relevance of this theoretical discussion is defined by the need to answer the conceptual challenges of the space-time of post-industrial development, to open a new historical retrospective on crafts and to realize the current and future sustainable development of trades. A topological research agenda, where the historical personality is seen as a socio-bodily being with a place in the space-time it itself produces, is founded on the key concepts of corporeality and location and interconnectedness within the socio-ontological context. In the framework of social phenomenology and ontology, the schema of flexible networks of small manufacturers takes the following form: «trade fraternities — workshops — practices — the self-organization and self-administration of fraternities». The craft topologeme suggests cooperation within the framework of a global trade fraternity of ecological manufacturing networks.

In recent years, the rapid development of the institutions of self-organization of citizens emerging and existing in various forms actualizes the issues related to their emergence and role in the implementation of social policy. This type of organization whose task was to provide social assistance and support to social risk groups has become the subject of scientific discussions and research in recent years. Scientists focus on various aspects and directions of development of the welfare state, forms of implementation, models of social policy, factors that determine its evolution, which includes the formation, flourishing and entry into an era of crisis. The purpose of the study is to consider the evolution of the welfare state as the basis for the emergence of institutions of self-organization of citizens. The methodological basis of the study is formed by the concepts of post-industrial society, which made it possible to consider the emergence and evolution of institutions of self-organization of citizens as a reflection of the processes taking place in society, to determine their place and role in the state of general welfare. A historical approach was also used, which made it possible to analyze the stages of the emergence of socially-oriented non-profit organizations (SO NPOs), the forms of their involvement in the social policy of the state; a method for identifying cause-and-effect relationships, which made it possible to identify factors that influence the interaction of SO NPOs and the state. This article describes the activities of various forms of the welfare state in the field of social protection of the population. We highlighted the positions on the problem of the emergence of institutions of self-organization of citizens in scientific thought and analyzed the reasons for the emergence of SO NPOs. The conclusion was drawn that it was the evolution of the welfare state that became the basis for the emergence of institutions of self-organization of citizens. Keywords: social structure, types of welfare state, institution of citizens’ self-organization, confrontation, rivalry, social policy, socially oriented non-profit organizations – SO NPOs

Title: A Comparison of the Equity-supportiveness of Organizational Cultures of (Public) NHS Organizations and (Private) Social Enterprise (SE) Providers Theory: New Public Management (NPM) has been the most influential paradigm in public administration in the last three decades. NPM-driven ideas such as provider competition, privatisation and patient choice have resulted in increased interest from recent UK governments in Social Enterprises (SEs) for delivering public health services. NPM-based changes have been criticized for creating inequitable provision of healthcare and increasing unjust health inequalities. It is worth asking whether equity for patients is promoted equally effectively by public (NHS) organizations and SE providers. Research Aims and Methodology: A mixed methods approach was employed. The quantitative strand used a survey to compare the equity-supportiveness of NHS and SE organizational cultures [124 respondents (68 NHS and 56 SE staff) from 21 organizations (12 NHS and 9 SEs)]. The qualitative strand used semi-structured interviews with 27 SE staff members to examine organizational changes in SEs and the impact of these changes on equity in service provision. Findings: By achieving better alignment with organizational values, reducing bureaucracy, speeding up decision-making, giving staff more autonomy and responsibility, encouraging initiative, risk-taking and innovation, involving staff more actively in strategic decision-making, and making better use of technology, Social Enterprises are promoting equity to an equal or greater degree than public (NHS) organizations. Implications: However, the SE model (currently limited to community healthcare services) remains unclear and problematic, suggesting caution in its use by larger NHS acute Trusts. More research is needed before a policy to support the adoption of the SE model in public service delivery is mainstreamed.

Horizontal workplace aggression is a workplace stressor that can have serious negative outcomes for employees and organizations. In the current study, hierarchical regression analyses were used to investigate the hypotheses that horizontal workplace aggression has a relationship with turnover intentions, work-to-family conflict and family-to-work conflict. Coworker social support was investigated as a potential moderator in these relationships. Surveys measuring these constructs were administered to a group of 156 direct-care workers (specifically, certified nursing assistants, or CNAs) in a long-term assisted living facility corporation in the Northwestern United States. Results indicated that horizontal workplace aggression had a significant and positive relationship with work-to-family conflict, family-to-work conflict, and turnover intentions, and that coworker social support significantly moderated the relationship between horizontal workplace aggression and work-to-family conflict, though not in the hypothesized direction. No other hypothesized moderations were significant. Potential explanations, practical implications and directions for future research are discussed.

Few studies to date have investigated associations among work, family, and sleep outcomes. The following dissertation includes three studies that attempt to further understanding of such relationships by utilizing data from information technology workers within the Work, Family, and Health Network study. In Study 1, which is published in the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, associations between work-to-family conflict, family-to-work conflict, family-supportive supervisor behaviors, and sleep outcomes, measured both subjectively and objectively, are examined in a cross-sectional sample. Study 2 investigates associations among work-to-family conflict, family-supportive supervisor behaviors, and subjective sleep outcomes within a seven-day daily diary framework. Furthermore, workplace characteristics are examined as moderators of these relationships. Study 3 explores the effect of a work-family intervention on sleep outcomes at the 18-month follow-up time point, in addition to mediators of the intervention effect on sleep outcomes over time.

The workforce in most industrialized countries is aging and becoming more age diverse, but few studies have examined the implications of age differences in the design of jobs. This study examined the role of age as a moderator in the relationship between job characteristics and two individual outcomes, job satisfaction and job tension. Specifically, the study focused on the relationship between social characteristics of the job (given social support, [received] social support, interdependence, interaction outside the organization, and feedback from others) and job tension and job satisfaction among Portland Water Bureau employees. Based in Socioemotional Selectivity (SES) theory (Carstensen, 1991), I hypothesized that these job characteristics would have a differential relationship with these outcomes for older and younger workers. Results showed that four of the eight hypothesized interactions were significant, providing support for age as a moderating variable. Differential interaction effects were demonstrated on job satisfaction and job tension. Further, this study incorporated a new conceptualization and measurement of the social support job characteristic (given social support), which demonstrated utility in predicting outcomes. Subjective age was also found to moderate the relationship between job satisfaction and job attitudes, but in a pattern similar to that found for chronological age. This study contributes to the existing literature by answering the call to examine the role of individual differences in the relationship between job design features and outcomes, and by increasing knowledge of the types of job characteristics that increase job satisfaction and reduce job tension for older and younger employees. Implications for the aging workforce are discussed along with future research to better understand the mediating mechanisms.

The main goal of this thesis was to examine the effects of family-to-work conflict on safety performance. Data were collected from a sample of 134 employees, consisting primarily of construction workers. Results found that levels of conflict from the family role to the work role negatively affected participants' workplace cognitive failure, or cognitively based errors that occur during the performance of a task that the person is normally successful in executing. Workplace cognitive failure, in turn, was a significant predictor of levels ofsafety performance, both employees' compliance with safety procedures and the extent to which they participated in discretionary safety-related activities. Although family-to-work conflict did not significantly predict levels of safety performance, results suggest that it is a practical antecedent of workplace cognitive failure, which is an important predictor of safety behaviors. Future research should explore further antecedents to workplace cognitive failure.

The purpose of the current study is to determine whether eliciting the need for assimilation or the need for differentiation influences individuals’ identification with a given team. Team identification is defined as a fan’s psychological connection to a team; that is, the extent to which the fan views the team as an extension of him or herself (Wann, Melnick, Russell, & Pease, 2001). It is important to understand potential factors that may motivate and potentially increase one’s identification with a particular team. The sample consisted of 106 participants attending Western Kentucky University. The participants completed the Sport Fandom Questionnaire (SFQ) and the Need for Affiliation (nAff) scale. Participants were presented with one of three randomly assigned scenarios, and were asked to transcribe two memories, dependent upon the previously assigned scenario. Following this, the gambling scenario was described. Participants rated how identified they were with both the underdog and favored team, regardless of their choice. It was hypothesized that those who are primed to experience the feelings of assimilation will wager more money on and be more highly identified with a team that is a prohibitive favorite. Also, it was hypothesized that those who are primed to experience the feelings of differentiation will wager more money on and be more highly identified with a team that is a large underdog. Results indicated that the hypotheses were not supported; however, significance was approached, as participants who were primed for feelings of differentiation tended to choose the underdog football team. Regardless of condition, participants tended to wager more money on the favorite football team, as opposed to the underdog football team.

AbstractIn this chapter, we explore key socio-technical dimensions that we have identified through the wider literature and our own sustainable housing research which we feel are important to address if a transition to sustainable housing is to be achieved. The ten socio-technical dimensions we cover in this chapter are: guiding principles, physical attributes, knowledge, geography, industrial structures and organizations, markets, users, and power, policy, regulations, and governance, everyday life and practices, culture, civil society, and social movements, ethical aspects. This chapter explores each dimension in turn by providing a definition, overview of how the current housing regime engages with the dimension and how sustainable housing offers a different approach. We also provide a short example of how this is being provided or considered in practice.

AbstractIn our societies, there is a growing demand for the production and use of more data. Data is reaching the point that is driving all the social and economic activities in every industry sector. Technology is not going to be a barrier anymore; however, where there is large deployment of technology, the production of data creates a growing demand for better data-driven services, and at the same time the benefits of the production of the data are at large an impulse for a global data economy, Data has become the business’s most valuable asset. In order to achieve its full value and help data-driven organizations to gain competitive advantages, we need effective and reliable ecosystems that support the cross-border flow of data. To this end, data ecosystems are the key enablers of data sharing and reuse within or across organizations. Data ecosystems need to tackle the various fundamental challenges of data management, including technical and nontechnical aspects (e.g., legal and ethical concerns). This chapter explores the Big Data value ecosystems and provides a detailed overview of several data platform implementations as best-effort approaches for sharing and trading industrial and personal data. We also introduce several key enabling technologies for implementing data platforms. The chapter concludes with common challenges encountered by data platform projects and details best practices to address these challenges.

Today's business environment is described with volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. In order for organizations to survive in the fourth industrial revolution characterized by continuously changing resulted from digital transformation and technological development, it is critical to identify a vision, to attract qualified human resources, to motivate them, to allocate resources to complete the mission, and to speed activities up to achieve the desired end state. It is of great significance to analyze the organization and create a competency framework to harbor all relevant steps to move the organization further. Therefore, this study aims at drawing attention to competency framework for the Industry 4.0 environment. There is no doubt that a standard competency framework for the fourth revolution may not be proposed. However, as a starting point, a generalized competency framework is proposed as a sample for further conceptual and empirical studies.

Talk about the Fourth Industrial Revolution is mainly related to the processes of digitalization and the penetration of artificial intelligence into our lives. Business, of course, is also undergoing significant changes under the influence of such cardinal processes. In this context, the social aspects of change are very important, so the management of organizational change should be focused on such extremely important elements as: ethics, social responsibility, values and principles of companies of the future. Without such an important understanding of the transformational processes in society, social inequality can form, the concentration of power and monopolization by only a few large companies, aggravation of problems associated with the failure to implement the goals of the Sustainable Development Concept. The ideologists of the concept of the 4th industrial revolution pay great attention to "soft factors, which, along with technical aspects, lead to a completely different model of the functioning of society. The object of study in the work are the SMEs of the Republic of Moldova, which are the most vulnerable in these challenges. Having insufficient resources and staff qualifications, it is more difficult for them to adapt to such changes, therefore, the purpose of the study is to develop guidelines for the development of enterprises of this type in a complex, uncertain environment of existence.

The Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has started two nine-year national R&D projects for small-capacity ceramic gas turbines (CGTs) from 1988, following several preliminary investigations of the technical aspects and of the social impacts of CGTs. Planned 300kW industrial ceramic gas turbines are to be used for co-generation and mobile power generation. The goals are 42% and higher for the thermal efficiency at the turbine inlet temperature of 1350°C, and the emission from the exhaust gas should meet the regulatory values. Also ceramic components have the goals of 400MPa for the minimum flexure strength at 1500°C, and 15 MPam1/2 for the fracture toughness. New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) is the main contractor, and three groups of private industries are the subcontractors for 300kW industrial CGT project. Three national research institutes are involved in the projects to conduct supportive research of ceramic materials and engine components as well as to carry out assessment of the materials and engine systems developed by the private industries. The development of 100kW CGT for automotive use was also recommended in the above stated investigations and a two-year preliminary study started in 1988. The full-scale 100kW automotive CGT R&D project is scheduled to start in 1990 after the preliminary study. Japan Automobile Research Institute, Inc. (JARI) is the main contractor for 100kW automotive CGT project with the cooperation of three automobile companies.

Smart development is a problem examined by many research studies, and the scientists note that the concept of smart economy becomes increasingly popular in scientific and practical strategy documents. The documents refer to small and medium enterprises implementing the Industrial Revolution 4.0 as smart companies, which are the basis of economic growth. The smart specialization strategy of Latvia states that more innovations are needed for a more productive economy and the development of more valuable products, and digital transformation becomes a crucial prerequisite for the future growth of companies. To succeed, a company needs to be aware of the most important competitive advantages. Business prospects are largely shaped by the efficient investment and innovation activity of a company and the application of modern technologies in the production and management of the company. The authors of the paper conducted a case study of a company in Latvia to identify the factors affecting smart business development and whether the performance of the company meets the parameters of smart development. Based on the literature review, the main aspects of smart business development were developed: (1) smartness, innovation and sustainability a development plan needs to be smart, i.e. with an innovative approach to process organization and management; development activities should involve innovation, applying a creative approach to planning; sustainable, i.e. focused on prospects; (2) a smart development plan affects the following aspects of company operation: business management strategy, production and processes, technology-driven progress, digital support and human competencies; (3) integration of smart technology solutions at the stages of value creation and the availability of information for prudent decision-making as a way of improving the performance of the smart company. The authors contribution to a solution to the research problem: parameters of smart operation of an individual company were defined and a questionnaire for leading employees and specialists of a company was designed based on the parameters, which could be used for examining and describing smart business development in similar small companies. The research results revealed that the operation of the company examined could be assessed as smart: the productivity of the company was high, as was the value added of the products, investments were made in production and the professional growth of employees, the company sought to introduce innovations and digital technologies and, in the opinion of the authors, the most important thing was that the company was oriented towards smart growth and sustainability, as well as innovative initiatives by the personnel.

The education service for specialists dealing with radioactive waste was established in Russia (former USSR) in 1983 and was based on the capabilities of two organisations: Moscow Scientific and Industrial Association «Radon» (SIA “Radon”) and Lomonosov’s Moscow State University. These two organizations are able jointly to offer training programs in the science fundamentals, applied research and in practical operational areas of the all pre-disposal activities of the radioactive waste management (RWM). Since 1997 this system was upgraded to the international level and now acts as the International Education Training Centre (IETC) at SIA “Radon” under the guidance of the IAEA. During last 12 years more than 350 specialists from 33 European and Asian countries enhanced their knowledge and skills in RWM. The IAEA supported many specialized regional training courses and workshops, fellowships, on-the-job training, and scientific visits which are additional means to assure development of personnel capabilities. Efficiency of training was analysed at IETC using the structural adaptation of educational process as well as factors, which have influence on education quality. In addition social-psychological aspects were also taken into account in assessing the overall efficiency. The analysis of the effect of individual factors and the efficiency of education activity were carried out based on appraisal results and post-course questioning of attendees.

However, it is relevant to all aspects of preparedness and response, including the development and evaluation of interventions. Social scientists have much to contribute to infodemic management as, while it must be data and evidence driven, it must also be built on a thorough understanding of affected communities in order to develop participatory approaches, reinforce local capacity and support local solutions.
