Currently, the role of information and of the tools facilitating its acquisition and processing is so significant that, in the economic nomenclature, there are already such concepts as an information civilization or information society. The aftermath of this state of affairs is the commercial breakthrough consisting of the enterprise’s success on the intellectual capital rather than the material one. This article aims to show the outline of the information management process and to determine how its components are used in companies. The first part of the paper is devoted to the description of information management concepts in enterprises and the functioning of organizational information systems. The second part of the study includes the results of original research carried out using the Computer-Assisted Web Interview (CAWI) method on the 70 Kuyavian-Pomeranian enterprises counted among the Forbes Diamonds 2018. An analysis of the obtained results indicates that the level of diversity of methods and frequencies of information channels used depends on the size of the entity, its capital structure, and the industry in which they operate. The primary sources of information for the surveyed companies are customers and competitors. The respondents agree that a well-functioning enterprise information system facilitates making decisions in the company and improves internal communication. The most frequently implemented development strategy in the analyzed companies is the market development strategy.

Aim.The digital transformation of the traffic safety management system in JSC RZD involves top-level integration with the operating processes of all business units in terms of integral assessment of the risk of possible events and achievement of specified indicators. The result will be the merger of the traffic safety management system with the processes of all levels of the company’s management enabled by an integrated intelligent system for managing processes and services whose functionality includes real-time traffic safety management.Methods. The paper uses system analysis of existing approaches and methods of processing of large quantities of structured and unstructered data.Results. The paper examines the development stages of train traffic safety management, as well as automated information and control systems that enable traffic safety management. General trends in the creation of systems for collection and processing of information are analyzed. The applicability of such technologies as Big Data, Data Mining, Data Science as part of advanced control systems is shown. The paper examines the performance of the above technologies by analyzing the effect of various factors on the average daily performance of a locomotive, where, at the first level, such factors as average daily run of a locomotive, average trainload are taken into consideration; at the second level, the focus is on the service speed, locomotive turnover at station, etc.; at the sixth level, the focus is on the type of locomotive, its technical state, etc. It is shown that statistical methods of factor analysis and link analysis combined with such other methods of Data Mining as methods of simulation and prediction, the average daily performance of a locomotive can be planned proactively. The author proposes a procedure of migration towards a digital traffic safety management system that would be based on models of interaction of safety and dependability factors of all railway facilities at all railway levels of hierarchy, as well as in association with other factors that have no direct relation to dependability, yet affect the safety of the transportation process.Conclusions. The primary benefit of migration towards Big Data consists in the development of a dynamic model of traffic safety, the elimination of human factor in control systems. Most importantly, it enables the creation within the Russian Railways company (JSC RZD) of an integrated intelligent process and service management system that enables real-time traffic safety management. An extensive process of development and deployment within the company of the URRAN Single Corporate Platform (SCP) enabled executive decision support as regards risk-based functional dependability and safety of transportation facilities. Thus, the URRAN SCP sets the stage for the digital transformation of the traffic safety management system in JSC RZD.

Current managerial communication in the global business world has recently experienced dramatic and unprecedented changes connected to the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in business and managerial communication. The objective of this paper is to analyze the changes in ICT-enhanced business and managerial communication in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Czech Republic. The use of ICT in business and managerial communication is obvious and brings various benefits, but it also has some drawbacks that should be identified and analyzed. From a methodological point of view, this study is twofold. Firstly, we conduct a systematic review of the current literature on the topic of business and managerial communication, providing an understanding of the recent development in the area of business and managerial communication. Secondly, we conduct qualitative research into the current state of ICT-enhanced managerial and business communication in several SMEs in the Czech Republic. The findings of the literature research show that there are two key aspects that define modern business and managerial communication, i.e., interculturality and interconnectedness. These two aspects of business and managerial communication are very recent, and they bring many challenges that must be considered in order to optimize communication. These altered communication paradigms have the potential to improve global competitiveness and produce new opportunities in the global market. The second part of the research shows that the general awareness of the changes in business communication is limited, and this could potentially pose a threat to business and managerial communication, leading to a loss of opportunities and reduced competitiveness. The majority of global-based companies have already become culture-, communication-, technology- and information-dependent, and ignoring or neglecting this fact presents a significant risk, which may be one of the biggest threats to global competitiveness. Since the success of SMEs is critical for the development of the national economy, it is recommended that company communication be continuously enhanced by frequent training at all organizational levels. This presents a challenge for educational institutions and training centers, managers and businesspeople, of creating communication competencies that would be highly rewarded in the global business environment.

Background Despite the fact that the adoption rate of electronic health records has increased dramatically among high-income nations, it is still difficult to properly disseminate personal health records. Token economy, through blockchain smart contracts, can better distribute personal health records by providing incentives to patients. However, there have been very few studies regarding the particular factors that should be considered when designing incentive mechanisms in blockchain. Objective The aim of this paper is to provide 2 new mathematical models of token economy in real-world scenarios on health care blockchain platforms. Methods First, roles were set for the health care blockchain platform and its token flow. Second, 2 scenarios were introduced: collecting life-log data for an incentive program at a life insurance company to motivate customers to exercise more and recruiting participants for clinical trials of anticancer drugs. In our 2 scenarios, we assumed that there were 3 stakeholders: participants, data recipients (companies), and data providers (health care organizations). We also assumed that the incentives are initially paid out to participants by data recipients, who are focused on minimizing economic and time costs by adapting mechanism design. This concept can be seen as a part of game theory, since the willingness-to-pay of data recipients is important in maintaining the blockchain token economy. In both scenarios, the recruiting company can change the expected recruitment time and number of participants. Suppose a company considers the recruitment time to be more important than the number of participants and rewards. In that case, the company can increase the time weight and adjust cost. When the reward parameter is fixed, the corresponding expected recruitment time can be obtained. Among the reward and time pairs, the pair that minimizes the company’s cost was chosen. Finally, the optimized results were compared with the simulations and analyzed accordingly. Results To minimize the company’s costs, reward–time pairs were first collected. It was observed that the expected recruitment time decreased as rewards grew, while the rewards decreased as time cost grew. Therefore, the cost was represented by a convex curve, which made it possible to obtain a minimum—an optimal point—for both scenarios. Through sensitivity analysis, we observed that, as the time weight increased, the optimized reward increased, while the optimized time decreased. Moreover, as the number of participants increased, the optimization reward and time also increased. Conclusions In this study, we were able to model the incentive mechanism of blockchain based on a mechanism design that recruits participants through a health care blockchain platform. This study presents a basic approach to incentive modeling in personal health records, demonstrating how health care organizations and funding companies can motivate one another to join the platform.

Under the current conditions of Economics, in order to keep competition it is necessary to possess not only good economical resources, but also to apply them relevantly in production and this is impossible without good administration in accounting of costs and productions costs. Before the calculation of product cost, first, it is necessary to know which costs and how many of them are included into the indicators of product cost. The validity and objectiveness of the obtained information depend on the preciseness of current cost distribution for the product cost. Scientific problem – it is unclear how ABC method affects the calculation of partial cost in small companies. It is not clear which method of cost calculation is most beneficial to apply for small companies –it is necessary to research how to distribute indirect costs – either applying ABC system (activity based costing - ABC) or using more simple – traditional distribution methods. The object is ABC method. The aim is to research the application efficiency of ABC method in small companies. In the first part there are analysed the pieces of research carried out by foreign authors investigating ABC method. There is executed the research in cost calculation in Lithuanian companies in order to identify if companies apply the following method, what benefit they receive and which difficulties they face. Having completed the analysis there were formulated advantages and disadvantages of the following method. In the second part, following the possessed cost calculation data of the company ‘Baldas’ there is compared the cost of the key company’s products calculated under traditional method and applying ABC method. It was indicated if it is useful for a company to apply ABC method for cost calculation.

Background: Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD) is a rare and aggressive disease with high mortality rates, and may have substantial healthcare resource utilization (HRU) and cost. Objectives: To describe the HRU and Medicare paid amounts up to 3 years after kidney transplants for PTLD patients and for all kidney transplant patients. Methods: The United States Renal Data System (USRDS) is a national data system that collects, analyzes and distributes information about chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in the United States. It is a claim dataset that provides Medicare paid amounts and HRU for these patients, including their kidney transplants. Patients are Medicare-eligible for 3 years after a successful kidney transplant. The Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) is a national data system that reports data from transplant centers on all solid organ transplants in the US, including data on malignancies after transplants, including PTLD. The USRDS data was used to identify Medicare-covered kidney transplant recipients from 2007 until 2016. SRTR malignancy data were used to obtain patients with a PTLD diagnosis, which was linked to the USRDS. Patients had to have a USRDS claim on the date of transplantation. Only patients enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B fee-for-service were included. Solitary kidney re-transplants were included but not multi-organ transplants, due to a potential difference in HRU and cost in the latter. Medicare Part A (inpatient, outpatient, home health, hospice, skilled nursing) and B HRU and paid amounts were tabulated for up to 3 years' post-transplant. The year post-transplant was calculated using 365.25 days per year following the kidney transplant. For example, recipients with a PTLD diagnosis any time within 365.25 days following their kidney transplant were considered a PTLD patients within 1-year post-transplant. A per person-year (PPY) was computed to standardize costs. Patients were censored at loss of Medicare eligibility or death or at the end of 3-year post-transplant. Results: A total of 83,818 Medicare-covered kidney transplants were included in this study with a mean age of 51.55 (SD: 15.11) at transplant and 60.77% male. Average paid amount from transplant to 1-year post-transplant was $83,546 PPY, with approximately two-thirds of the cost coming from inpatient hospitalization. For year 2 and 3 post-transplant, the average paid amount was $26,148 PPY and $25,326 PPY, respectively, with similar cost coming from inpatient and Part B (~39% each). Among these kidney transplant recipients, 281 transplant recipients had PTLD while Medicare-eligible with an average age of 53.98 (SD: 19.19) years at transplant and 67.97% male. Median time from transplant to PTLD diagnosis was 1.02 years (IQR: 0.60-1.93 years). For patients who were diagnosed with PTLD within the first year after transplant (n=139), average paid amount from date of the first PTLD diagnosis to 1-year post-transplant was $222,336 PPY, with approximately two-thirds of the cost from inpatient hospitalization. Of these patients who survived or were eligible in year 2 (n=94) and 3 (n=64), the average cost was $60,981 PPY and $36,118 PPY, respectively. For patients who were diagnosed with PTLD in the second year after transplant (n=81), average paid amount in year 2 post-transplant was $203,374 PPY with approximately 60% coming from inpatient hospitalization. Year 3 post-transplant cost for these PTLD patients who survived or were eligible (n=59) was $58,879 PPY. For patients who were diagnosed with PTLD in the third year after transplant (n=61), average paid amount in year 3 post-transplant was $211,941 PPY with 68% coming from inpatient hospitalization. Conclusions: PTLD is associated with substantial HRU and cost (>$200k PPY in the year diagnosed), regardless of the year diagnosed post-transplant, while patients without PTLD and patients who haven't developed PTLD yet had a cost of ~$83k PPY in year 1, and ~$26k PPY for year 2 and 3 post-transplant. Purpose – Commonly shared logistics services help manufacturing companies to cut down redundant logistics investments while enhance the overall service quality. Such service-sharing mode has been naturally adopted by group companies to form the so-called headquarter-managed centralized distribution center (HQ-CDC). The HQ-CDC manages the common inventories for the group’s subsidiaries and provides shared storage services to the subsidiaries through appropriate sizing, pricing and common replenishment. Apart from seeking a global optimal solution for the whole group, the purpose of this paper is to investigate balanced solutions between the HQ-CDC and the subsidiaries. Design/methodology/approach – Two decision models are formulated. Integrated model where the group company makes all-in-one decision to determine the space allocation, price setting and the material replenishment on behalf of HQ-CDC and subsidiaries. Bilevel programming model where HQ-CDC and subsidiaries make decisions sequentially to draw a balance between their local objectives. From the perspective of result analysis, the integrated model will develop a managerial benchmark which minimizes the group company’s total cost, while the bilevel programming model could be used to measure the interactive effects between local objectives as well as their final effect on the total objective. Findings – Through comparing the numerical results of the two models, two major findings are obtained. First, the HQ-CDC’s profit is noticeably improved in the bilevel programming model as compared to the integrated model. However, the improvement of HQ-CDC’s profit triggers the cost increasing of subsidiaries. Second, the analyses of different sizing and pricing policies reveal that the implementation of the leased space leads to a more flexible space utilization in the HQ-CDC and the reduced group company’s total cost especially in face of large demand and high demand fluctuation. Research limitations/implications – Several classical game-based decision models are to be introduced to examine the more complex relationships between the HQ-CDC and the subsidiaries, such as Nash Game model or Stackelberg Game model, and more complete and meaningful managerial implications may be found through result comparison with the integrated model. The analytical solutions may be developed to achieve more accurate results, but the mathematical models may have to be with easier structure or tighter assumptions. Practical implications – The group company should take a comprehensive consideration on both cost and profit before choosing the decision framework and the coordination strategy. HQ-CDC prefers a more flexible space usage strategy to avoid idle space and to increase the space utilization. The subsidiaries with high demand uncertainties should burden a part of cost to induce the subsidiaries with steady demands to coordinate. Tanshipments should be encouraged in HQ-CDC to reduce the aggregate inventory level as well as to maintain the customer service level. Social implications – The proposed decision frameworks and warehousing policies provide guidance for the managers in group companies to choose the proper policy and for the subsidiaries to better coordinate. Originality/value – This research studies the services sharing on the warehouse sizing, pricing and common replenishment in a HQ-CDC. The interactive decisions between the HQ-CDC and the subsidiaries are formulated in a bilevel programming model and then analyzed under various practical scenarios.

One of the frequently occurring tasks during the development of warehouse management systems is the implementation of routing algorithms of some kind. Whether it is for routing workers during order picking, delivery vehicles or company representatives, this task has proven to be challenging in the technical as well as the social sense. In other words, the task is heavily dependent on various general and company-specific constraints and it directly dictates the way employees should do their job. This paper describes a strategic approach to the development and gradual integration of such algorithms which makes sure that all constraints are satisfied and, more importantly, ensures that route suggestions are viewed by the employees as a helpful tool rather than a threat to their job. In the first part of this paper, the approach is described and evaluated on a warehouse representative routing problem through a real-world case study in a medium-to-large warehouse. In the second part, the same approach is adapted to a delivery vehicle routing problem for a smaller retailer company. In both cases, routing efficiency almost doubled in comparison to previous approaches used by the companies. The most important factors of the implementation and integration stages as well as the impact of the changes on employee satisfaction are aggregated, analysed in detail, and discussed throughout different stages of development.

ABSTRACT This project provides students with an opportunity to develop a master budget for a merchandiser. Students work in a team environment that also helps them discover budget process issues. The project consists of two parts. The first part requires students to grasp the mechanics of master budget creation and develop an understanding of how the individual budgets fit together and how information flows from one budget to other budgets. The second part of the project requires students to create new budget information when given a different organizational structure and incentive system. Both parts of the project expose students to budget process issues related to communication, cooperation, public/private information, information sharing, truth telling, and the influence of incentives on the budget process. The project is directed at undergraduate students in Managerial or Cost Accounting courses. We also present modifications that emphasize the budget process issues that would be useful for a graduate-level managerial accounting course (Master's in Management or M.B.A.).

This article explores the complex relationship between enterprise and discourse from a sociolinguistic viewpoint. A model of communication is presented which depicts the multilayered framework of texts within organizations. With this model as a background, results from two studies on enterprise discourse are discussed. The first study analyzed communication within banks and structural engineering companies in Sweden, Germany and Great Britain. Interviews were held with staff at different levels, and written documents were analyzed. Though of course the discourse within the studied companies had much in common, differences were found as well, which can be explained by variation in sector, the organizational culture and the national culture. The second study focused on the multilingual production of texts in a Swedish based international company. An analysis of company brochures produced in different European branches showed considerable variation in relation to content, arguments and style. Though the headquarters steered the sales companies by means of a common text base, the various brochures also revealed differences that reflected ideas from the local level. Both studies thus show how the creation of uniqueness and attractiveness on the one hand takes place within the limits set by the sector concerned and on the other is determined by the relevant national culture(s). The company is part of a wider sectoral network that frequently has well-established discourse traditions. Moreover, a company also operates within a national culture, or several cultures, forcing it to adapt to national discourse patterns as well.

This study has compared three models: Delone, Mclean and corrected Sedan, by measuring the effect of business intelligence in the construction Armin Beton Yazd construction company with the library method. Then, the mediums and the related structures (information quality, system quality, service quality, system dependence, customer satisfaction and understanding profit (individual effect)) were analyzed to see if they are acting properly. To interpret the results, the authors used content production. The idea was to look for the best results and explanations for results. The main difference between these models is that the Delone and Mclean model consider system dependence (using the system) as a part of the information system's success. In contrast, the Sedan model sees it as a result. It seems that the Sedan model gives best results and explanations about them. Then, an analysis of using structure by the system because of the limited explanatory variation and very few relations with other structures was released to improve the explanatory power of future researches.

Abstract Research background: When a company changes a few separated information systems into one integrated information system there can appear the obligation of costing method change. It happens especially when the company is a part of an international manufacturing corporation. Purpose: The main goal of the paper is to compare two methods of manufacturing operating income calculation and data presentation when a company changes a costing method from normal costing to standard costing. Research methodology: In the paper for this research comparative analysis was used between two methods of manufacturing operating income calculation. In the first method manufacturing operating income is the difference between revenues from manufacturing operations and the costs of goods manufactured. In the second one manufacturing operating income is calculated as a sum of production variances, purchase price variances, currency variances and inventory adjustments. Pearson’s correlation coefficients for pairs of variables were calculated in both of the costing methods. A comparative analysis was done on the basis of a case study executed in a big international wholesaler. The company is a member of an international manufacturing corporation. Results: The same manufacturing operating incomes were obtained in both methods. The absolute values of Pearson’s correlation coefficients were similar in normal and standard costing, but they differ in directions. Novelty: In standard costing manufacturing operating income is calculated as a sum of various types of variances. They are calculated as deviations from standard costs. It enables the easier identification of impacting a company’s results factors.

Purpose – This study aims to explore fund manager use of trust to reduce information complexity concerning corporate intangible resources and sustainability and what consequences this have for corporates as providers of information. Analytically, fund managers are considered part of a system with social meaning. Design/methodology/approach – A qualitative research approach is used. Data are obtained from two focus group discussions that occurred on two separate occasions. The first discussion was between four communications executives at leading Swedish companies. The second discussion was between four experienced fund managers in the Swedish financial market. Findings – The results suggest that fund managers oscillate between exhibiting trust and distrust when reducing the complexity of information on intangible resources and sustainability. Fund managers tend to trust the stable context of company information and strive to trust top management. Communicative dilemmas emerge when fund managers oscillate between trust and distrust. The fund manager disinterest in details emerges because of a reliance on a stable information context and company management. The representation dilemma emerges when narratives are used in corporate reporting. Research limitations/implications – This study contributes empirically to the knowledge concerning the social complexity of fund management. Practical implications – The paper increases the understanding of communicative difficulties for corporates to communicate with actors on the financial markets through narratives on intangible resources and sustainability. Originality/value – By focusing on the social meaning in the communication between companies and financial markets, we have contrasted the dominant view of financial economics of financial market actors as rational agents and the individualistic mode of theorizing in accordance with rational choice theory.

Media coverage, as an important part of the external corporate governance mechanism, plays an important guiding role in corporate behavior patterns and public opinion. Taking A-share listed companies of Shanghai Stock Exchange and Shenzhen Stock Exchange from 2012 to 2017 as research examples, this paper analyzed how media coverage and political connections exert influence on corporate risk in an empirical study approach. This paper makes the following conclusions. First, the media, as information medium and external participant of the company, significantly lower the listed company’s corporate risk through closed media coverage. Second, the closer connection a company has with government, the higher corporate risk it encounters and, in the meantime, less effect of media coverage’s aversion effect towards corporate risk. Third, based on a further research on the nature of company’s property rights, this paper revealed that in state-owned companies, close political connections weaken much more media coverage’s aversion effect towards corporate risk than that in private companies.

This work presents a straightforward methodology based on neural networks (NN) which allows to obtain relevant dynamic information of unknown nonlinear systems. It provides an approach for cases in which the complex task of analyzing the dynamic behaviour of nonlinear systems makes it excessively challenging to obtain an accurate mathematical model. After reviewing the suitability of multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) as universal approximators to replace a mathematical model, the first part of this work presents a system representation using a model formulated with state variables which can be exported to a NN structure. Considering the linearization of the NN model in a mesh of operating points, the second part of this work presents the study of equilibrium states in such points by calculating the Jacobian matrix of the system through the NN model. The results analyzed in three case studies provide representative examples of the strengths of the proposed method. Conclusively, it is feasible to study the system behaviour based on MLPs, which enables the analysis of the local stability of the equilibrium points, as well as the system dynamics in its environment, therefore obtaining valuable information of the system dynamic behaviour.

Abstract In the current market situation, mining companies are faced with the necessity to take actions to improve the efficiency of the mining process. Some of these actions enforce a centralization of activities in the field of deposit economy and planning of mining operations in these companies. In the planning process with such scope the large knowledge of designers is required, which could be additionally supported by a knowledge base, supplied by information and data obtained during the completion of mining works, which also allows for use of the expert knowledge of other organizational units of the mine or the company. The paper presents an original expert system for mining works planning in the underground hard coal mines (MinePlanEx). The aim of the developed system is to support the designers of production planning in hard coal mines within the scope of: equipment selection, mining machinery combining into equipment sets and determining characteristic curves regarding the production results in the planned excavations. Knowledge of the system is represented by the rules selected with the chosen data mining techniques (association rules and classification trees) and obtained from experts. The first part of the paper presents a knowledge base, knowledge acquisition module and inference module which are the main components of the system. The features of functioning of information system in the society of the Second modern in conditions of military conflict are analyzed in the article. Also we tried to analyze connection of this features with characteristics of the political and economic systems of this type of society. Television continues to be the main source of information about state of affairs in Ukraine and in the world, although it’s influence is decreasing. The concentration of media ownership in the hands of financial and industrial groups, associated with political forces, is an important issue. Online media and social networks are the second among the sources of information about state of affairs in Ukraine and in the world. Their increasing influence raises the question of the power of large internet companies, who have the ability to control information flows, provide an opportunity to use the information aggregated by them for the application of specific political technologies of influence on the public sphere. These companies are out of control of the regulatory mechanisms of state institutions in most countries, which creates vulnerabilities in the public sphere of nation-states to influence from other countries and unregulated aspects of online electoral campaigns. The crisis of confidence in traditional media increases the importance of offline and online networks of social interactions as a source of information. Data in Ukraine, Europe and USA show that loss of confidence in public institutions, rise of populism directly related to the decline in confidence in traditional media. The level of trust in vaccination in different regions of the world is also analyzed in the context of the functioning of media institutions and other public institutions. Modern media (both traditional and internet) tend to mix entertaining formats with political information. Converting policy to show, spreading fakes, noticeable dependence of media on certain political and economic groups and media’s partiality, weakening of expert filters undermines confidence in traditional and new media. Although the importance of social media for the democratization of the public sphere exists. Decreasing confidence in media in general converted to the сonfidence in concrete media figures (bloggers, experts etc.). PurposeAnalyze the importance of sustainable innovation strategy applied in manufacturing companies in Indonesia which affects the company's financial performance through several mediating variables.Design/methodology/approachThe population in this research was medium and large manufacturing company business units in East Java. Business units are part of a company considered as the profit center. The business unit as the unit of analysis in this research is part of the organization that: (1) is responsible for the production and marketing of a product or set of products; (2) is formed by product type; (3) has its own competitors which are different from competitors of other business units or divisions within a parent company; (4) has a manager who is responsible and has authority over the planning and implementation of strategies to achieve the specified profit target.FindingsInnovation strategy has a significant effect on financial performance. Human capital does not significantly mediate the relationship between innovation strategy and financial performance. Capital performance and internal performance do not mediate the relationship between innovation strategy and financial performance. Management accounting information system does not mediate the relationship between innovation strategy and financial performance. Internal process performance mediates the relationship between innovation strategy and financial performance. Management accounting information system and internal process performance mediate the relationship between innovation strategy and financial performance.Originality/valueThe difference in findings confirms that this research needs to be conducted. On the other hand, there is no research that has comprehensively tested the mediating effects of Human Capital and Management Accounting Information System in the relationship between Innovation Strategy and Internal Process Performance and the Impact on Corporate Financial Performance. The originality of this research can be seen in the use of contingency theory which narrows the gap between the industrial organization (I/O) paradigm and the resource-based view (RBV) regarding competitive advantage and performance. Specifically, this research introduces innovation strategy, human capital, management accounting information system, and internal business process performance as the contingency factors that affect financial performance. Second, empirically, this research tries to reduce the gap in empirical research by offering new research model and new research establishment at the level of strategic business units (SBU) in manufacturing companies in East Java. This research is expected to be useful for policy decision making, especially for managers who want to improve strategic business unit's financial performance.

In health services research, it is common to encounter semicontinuous data, characterized by a point mass at zero followed by a right-skewed continuous distribution with positive support. Examples include health expenditures, in which the zeros represent a subpopulation of patients who do not use health services, while the continuous distribution describes the level of expenditures among health services users. Longitudinal semicontinuous data are typically analyzed using two-part random-effect mixtures with one component that models the probability of health services use, and a second component that models the distribution of log-scale positive expenditures among users. However, because the second part conditions on a non-zero response, obtaining interpretable effects of covariates on the combined population of health services users and non-users is not straightforward, even though this is often of greatest interest to investigators. Here, we propose a marginalized two-part model for longitudinal data that allows investigators to obtain the effect of covariates on the overall population mean. The model additionally provides estimates of the overall population mean on the original, untransformed scale, and many covariates take a dual population average and subject-specific interpretation. Using a Bayesian estimation approach, this model maintains the flexibility to include complex random-effect structures and easily estimate functions of the overall mean. We illustrate this approach by evaluating the effect of a copayment increase on health care expenditures in the Veterans Affairs health care system over a four-year period.

The analysis of risks of IT projects at introduction of information management system in realization of projects of the company is also presented. The possibility of risks of IT projects during the implementation of the management information system in the implementation of the company's projects is analyzed. And also the ways of minimization of occurrence of risks of IT projects at introduction of information management system in realization of projects of the company are offered. Under ideal circumstances, in modern organizations, project implementation reduces risks to zero. At the same time, in modern realities, it remains necessary to take into account risks and manage them as part of the organization when implementing projects. Nevertheless, risk minimization is effective for the dynamic growth of an organization or institution when implementing projects. The current trends in information projects in today's competitive world are fundamental and necessary for any project-oriented organization to manage risks in information outsourcing projects in an ideally complex task. Thus, this article examines the main factors that lead to the emergence of risks, based on modern scientific sources from leading researchers in the field of project management, taking into account the peculiarities of developing an optimal risk management system in an organization when implementing projects, as well as the implementation of such a system under various scenarios of projects’ implementation in organizations. A structure aimed at improving the risk management system in organizations during project implementation is also proposed. The study found that prioritization in the consideration of project risks, as well as risk factors, helps to correlate the risk of the project and the risk of the company itself. Prioritizing the response to risk factors and their strength of influence, considering the time, volume and quality of risks are of paramount importance for the dynamic growth of the organization and allow to conduct a matrix analysis of risks, and then propose ways to minimize risk.

Organizational development is one of the most important fields of organizational management. With increasing connectivity and digitalization of processes, systems, and data, intrusions via interfaces and subsystems can be affected by the entire system’s security. The manipulation or loss of data in artificial intelligence-based systems takes on a serious role, as the technology learns and acts based on data. Since personal and person-related data and confidential company data are of particular importance, this issue’s relevance is significant. This study aimed to determine the data access limit for digital systems for organizational development and to investigate user attitudes towards the procession of personal data through artificial intelligence. The main purpose is to provide the research results to target selected security and data protection aspects in the design of organizational development systems based on artificial intelligence. Investigation of this topic is carried out in three logical phases. The first phase provides the analysis of scientific publications. It explores how and under which aspects and conditions digital systems for organizational development depend on information security and data protection. The literature review included keyword network analysis in Scopus with further visualization in VOSviewer. The second part provides a targeted data classification according to security classes, which can be directly applied to design organizational development or management software. In the third phase, there is a survey of respondents from Ukraine and Germany to determine the attitudes towards collecting and analyzing personal data through artificial intelligence. The investigation results show the close connection of the subject’s security and data protection with the change management system, privacy, development of technological models in enterprises, applications for and of process analysis, the legislative basis for information security, etc. According to the survey, the respondents from Ukraine show more neutrality in accepting the collection of personal or personal data through artificial intelligence. Across age and nationality, it can be stated that the majority of respondents are not opposed to collecting and analyzing data about the execution of the activity or behavior, personal details, family status, education. Scientists and practitioners can directly use the findings for further applications in developing digital systems for organizational development. Keywords: information security of organizational development system, artificial intelligence for organizational development, protection of organizational data, protection of personal data.

Summary Objectives: The paper aimed to present and analyze the development of Healthcare Information Systems in Romania during the last decade. The first part was dedicated to the analysis of a large national project, HMIS – Healthcare Management Information System, and the second to the current state of the hospital information systems and primary care systems. Methods: The approach of a “case study” was used. The description of the HMIS project comprised the objectives and its structure, implementation, results and lessons learned. This is followed by a classical short presentation of the current state at the hospital and primary care levels. Results: The very modest results of the HMIS project were critically analyzed, listing the ‘failure factors’ at various moments, both weak points of the project as well as the consequences of the structural-organizational changes within the Romanian healthcare system during the implementation. However, mainly positive results were registered in the last years at lower levels, hospitals and primary care, which can also partially be interpreted as ‘lesson learned’. Conclusions: There are several things to be learned from the Romanian experience. Healthcare information system analysis is quite complex. Obtaining better results requires several additional measures including better education and training, adopting standards and appropriate quality assessment tools.

In recent years, the telecom market has been very competitive. The cost of retaining existing telecom customers is lower than attracting new customers. It is necessary for a telecom company to understand customer churn through customer relationship management (CRM). Therefore, CRM analyzers are required to predict which customers will churn. This study proposes a customer-churn prediction system that uses an ensemble-learning technique consisting of stacking models and soft voting. Xgboost, Logistic regression, Decision tree, and Naïve Bayes machine-learning algorithms are selected to build a stacking model with two levels, and the three outputs of the second level are used for soft voting. Feature construction of the churn dataset includes equidistant grouping of customer behavior features to expand the space of features and discover latent information from the churn dataset. The original and new churn datasets are analyzed in the stacking ensemble model with four evaluation metrics. The experimental results show that the proposed customer churn predictions have accuracies of 96.12% and 98.09% for the original and new churn datasets, respectively. These results are better than state-of-the-art churn recognition systems.

Competitiveness of national economies depends in great part on technological development and implementation of knowledge from science and research in practice. The phenomenon of cooperation represents an integral part of these processes. While its bounded forms, like mergers and acquisitions are relatively embedded in the Czech Republic, the advantages of less formal partnerships have been gradually discovered just recently. In the paper we focus on a special type of cooperation called networks. In order to get an initial overview, we introduce some of the basic definitions, as the specialized literature lacks single explanation and categorization. Within the framework of our research we have focused on such purposeful connections of small and medium enterprises that bring benefits for both sides and lead to the growth of competitiveness. The aim of the article is to investigate the prerequisites of interfirm network operation in the South Moravian Region. The first part of the paper introduces network cooperation, especially the motives standing behind network set-up, the typology of networks and the role of networks at regional level. Then we briefly describe the South Moravian region, where our investigation has been made. We focus especially on the demonstration of the most powerful and perspective economic branches in which we consider networks very important. This base is further extended by the information received in the South Moravian Innovation Centre, an interest association of legal persons having experience especially in research institution – company cooperation. The operation of a partnership network is analyzed on the case of DC Concept, a. s., a company from Brno producing and developing information system for middle and large companies. We introduce the six types of their partners, the system how the network works and the motives lying behind. The paper is based on the information gained during the pre-research which falls within the scope of doctoral dissertation research focusing on network creation of small and medium enterprises in a certain region.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is twofold: first, to explore how China uses a social credit system as part of its “data-driven authoritarianism” policy; and second, to investigate how datafication, which is a method to legitimize data collection, and dataveillance, which is continuous surveillance through the use of data, offer the Chinese state a legitimate method of monitoring, surveilling and controlling citizens, businesses and society. Taken together, China’s social credit system is analyzed as an integrated tool for datafication, dataveillance and data-driven authoritarianism. Design/methodology/approach This study combines the personal narratives of 22 Chinese citizens with policy analyses, online discussions and media reports. The stories were collected using a scenario-based story completion method to understand the participants’ perceptions of the recently introduced social credit system in China. Findings China’s new social credit system, which turns both online and offline behaviors into a credit score through smartphone apps, creates a “new normal” way of life for Chinese citizens. This data-driven authoritarianism uses data and technology to enhance citizen surveillance. Interactions between individuals, technologies and information emerge from understanding the system as one that provides social goods, using technologies, and raising concerns of privacy, security and collectivity. An integrated critical perspective that incorporates the concepts of datafication and dataveillance enhances a general understanding of how data-driven authoritarianism develops through the social credit system. Originality/value This study builds upon an ongoing debate and an emerging body of literature on datafication, dataveillance and digital sociology while filling empirical gaps in the study of the global South. The Chinese social credit system has growing recognition and importance as both a governing tool and a part of everyday datafication and dataveillance processes. Thus, these phenomena necessitate discussion of its consequences for, and applications by, the Chinese state and businesses, as well as affected individuals’ efforts to adapt to the system.

The article deals with the linguistic database for the system of automatic generation of English advertising texts on cosmetics and perfumery. The database for such a system includes two main blocks: automatic dictionary (that contains semantic and morphological information for each word), and semantic-syntactical formulas of the texts in a special formal language SEMSINT. The database is built on the result of the analysis of 30 English advertising texts on cosmetics and perfumery. First, each word was given a unique code. For example, N stands for nouns, A – for adjectives, V – for verbs, etc. Then all the lexicon of the analyzed texts was distributed into different semantic categories. According to this semantic classification each word was given a special semantic code. For example, the record N01 that is attributed to the word «lip» in the dictionary means that this word refers to nouns of the semantic category «part of a human’s body».The second block of the database includes the semantic-syntactical formulas of the analyzed advertising texts written in a special formal language SEMSINT. The author gives a brief description of this language, presenting its essence and structure. Also, an example of one formalized advertising text in SEMSINT is provided.

Abstract. The importance of software validation increases since the need for high usability and suitability of software applications grows. In order to reduce costs and manage risk factors, more and more recommendations and rules have been established. In the field of pharmacy the vendors of so-called chromatography data systems (CDSs) had to implement the guidelines of the Code of Federal Regulations Title 21 (CFR 21) during the last few years in order to fulfill the increasing requirements. The CFR 21 part 11 deals with electronic records and signatures. This part is binding for each company in the regulated environment that wishes to create, edit and sign electronic information instead of printing them on paper. Subsection CFR 21 part 11.10(h) explains how to perform an input check for manual user entries as well as for data that will be collected from an external device. In this article we present an approach performing the double entry method on data provided by the hardware instrument in order to investigate possible influences on the raw data by the handling CDS. A software tool has been written which allows us to communicate with a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) detector and acquire data from it. The communication is completely independent of a CDS which is started separately and connected to the same system. Using this configuration we made a parallel data acquisition of two instances at the same time possible. Two CDSs have been tested and for at least one of them it has been shown that a comparison of the acquired data can be done as with the double entry method for the data verification. For the second CDS we checked whether it would be applicable after a few modifications. The given approach could be either used for a live data verification of produced raw data or as a single test during a software operational qualification to verify the data acquisition functionality of the software.

The design of controllers combining feedback and feedforward for the finite time settling control of linear systems, including linear time-varying systems, is considered. The feedforward part transfers the initial state of a linear system to a desired final state in finite time, and the feedback part reduces the effects of uncertainties and disturbances on the system performance. Two methods for determining the feedforward part, without requiring the knowledge of the explicit state solutions, are proposed. In the first method, a numerical procedure for approximating combined controls that drive linear time-varying systems to their final state in finite time is given. The feedforward part is a variable function of time and is selected based on a set of necessary conditions, such as magnitude constraints. In the second method, an analytical procedure for constructing combined controls for linear time-invariant systems is presented, where the feedforward part is accurately determined and it is of the minimum energy control type. It is shown that both methods facilitate the design of the feedforward part of combined controllers for the finite time settling of linear systems. The robustness of driving a linear system to its desired state in finite time is analyzed for three types of uncertainties. The robustness analysis suggests a modification of the feedforward control law to assure the robustness of the control strategy to parameter uncertainties for arbitrary final times.

Data warehouses are a collection of several databases, whose goal is to help different companies and corporations make important decisions about their activities. These decisions are taken from the analyses that are made to the data within the data warehouse. These data are taken from data that companies and corporations collect on daily basis from their branches that may be located in different cities, regions, states and continents. Data that are entered to data warehouses are historical data and they represent that part of data that is important for making decisions. These data go under a transformation process in order to accommodate with the structure of the objects within the databases in the data warehouse. This is done because the structure of the relational databases is not similar with the structure of the databases (multidimensional databases) within the data warehouse. The first ones are optimized for transactions on daily basis like: entering, changing, deleting and retrieving data through simple queries, the second ones are optimized for retrieving data through multidimensional queries, which enable us to extract important information. This information helps to make important decisions by learning which are the weak points and the strong points of the company, in order to invest more on the weak points and to strengthen the strong points, increasing the profits of the company. The goal of this paper is to treat data analyses for decision making from a data warehouse by using OLAP (online analytical processing) analysis. For this treatment we used the Analysis Services of Microsoft SQL Server 2016 platform. We analyzed the data of an IT Store with branches in different cities in Kosovo and came to a conclusion for some sales trends. This paper emphasizes the role of data warehouses in decision making.

The high level of mobile operators competitiveness is arrived at due to realization of reasonable strategy of development guidance. The effective method of strategic management is SPACE- analysis. It envisages realization of research of company activity by 4 groups of criteria. It is financial force of enterprise; competitive advantages; attractiveness of industry; stability of enterprise environment. An analysis is executed for three companies in Ukraine: Kyivstar, Vodafone “Ukraine”, lifecell. For the enterprises of most types of economic activity the system of indexes by groups is mainly formed. For the operators of mobile communication it is necessary to be formed. It is constrained with the use of information from open sources, that is got to the company at own discretion. An author are formed these groups of indexes by such method. The financial state is appraised by the sum of expenses, profitability of products, and also net profit of companies. For the estimation of companies’ competitiveness market part of company is used; quantity of companies subscribers, and also amount of persons, that watch in the network of Facebook, that allows quickly to react on problems. The attractiveness of industry is evaluated by innovative potential; by stability of income receipt; by the attractiveness of operator for foreign partners. Stability of industry is characterized by investments; rate of increase on mobile communication market; level of competition. After calculations, strategies of development of companies appeared different, although they work at one market. A company Kyivstar, as a market leader, uses Conservative strategy. It is typical strategy on stable markets with the low growth rates. For a company Vodafone “Ukraine” development envisages maintenance of Aggressive strategy, increase of sales volumes, mastering of new sale segments of services. In a strategic management for her the increase of market share, search of candidates, is offered on absorption in a telecommunication sphere; concentration of resources on services, that provide most advantage above competitors. For the company of lifecell the Competition strategy is recommended. It sent to the search of additional sourcing, increase of quantity of subscribers, stabilizing of financial provision. It is expedient to learn possibility to develop the brand of the second card. Forming of the research and information providing of management development of mobile communication operators must become direction of further researches.

Today in Europe and Albania, the foreign languages are part of the daily activities of lots of people. These languages enable getting and using a variety of information and nowadays this process is becoming easier and easier thanks to the increasing number of people who know one or even more foreign languages. Everybody knows and expresses the fact that foreign languages are a “must”. The question which arises immediately after that is which of these languages we should learn. While attempting to answer the first one, there arises the second question, the third one and so on. What is communication like today? What will it be like in the future? Starting from the moment we think and dream about a future, there are still concrete opportunities to be analyzed so as to how we can get there. Along this article, we will reflect on communication today and we will describe the challenges that teaching foreign languages in Albanian schools should face. According to the statistics of the Eurobarometer in Europe (Special Eurobarometer 243. 2006) the biggest part of Europeans (65%) first get in touch with the foreign languages at school. It is school which enables the longest contact with the foreign languages. This fact makes school the most important and the most critical element to be studied compared to the supportive policies of multilingualism in communication.

With STEP-NC (ISO 14649) being gradually accepted as new standard for programming computerized numerical control (CNC) machine tools, new technologies and computer systems in the design and manufacturing process chain are emerging, and conventional systems are reshaping, to support interoperable and intelligent manufacturing. This paper addresses issues and solutions for the adaptation. In the first place, a strategy for adapting legacy CNC turning machine tools to the emerging standard is presented. In the second place, the new data model is analyzed and a practical way to retrieve and extract manufacturing information from the STEP-NC part program for turning process is presented. In the third place a workable approach to calculating the cutting force and chip load in turning operations is presented based on the mechanistic modeling method. Finally the proposed approach is implemented in a prototype system and tested with an example STEP-NC program for turning, which shows not only the feasibility of the proposed approach for information extraction and process evaluation, but also the possibility of using simple transitional systems to bridge the gap between the sophisticated STEP-NC part program and conventional CNC machines.

Internal controls promote efficiency, reduce risks of assets loss and help to ensure the reliability of financial statements and compliance with laws and regulations (Coco, 2005).Thus successful organizations set performance measures that focus attention that identifies and communicates the success, support organization learning and provide a basis for assessment and reward (Brown, 2001).In order to be able to perform, organizations should critically look at customers and all stakeholders in business and know how best they are satisfying their needs. Kloot (1999), adds that organizations should continuously improve their services through assets accumulation, create value, improve quality services and flexibility, internal control system is intervened with organizations operating activities and it is most effective when controls are built into the organizations infrastructure becoming part of the very essence the organizations success in terms of continued improvement on performance standards as part of the competitive advantage of the organization. However according to how work is carried out some companies, there have poor documentations, no segregation of duties which affect organizational performance. This study will investigate the purpose of ascertaining the effect of internal control system on organizational performance. This study used descriptive design in soliciting information on the effect of internal control system on organizational performance. Data was collected from the respondents using questionnaires, and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study findings indicated that the organization carried out proper authorization and approval of transactions. Sometimes transactions were carried out without proper authorization and sometimes there were no approval, this created room for conducting fraudulent activities like misappropriations. The result of the study also shows that that almost 2/3 of the respondents did agree with the fact that the organization reconciled physical cash with cash book balances, while 21% disagreed on the facts. This was because most business purchases (receipts) were not recorded so identifying the actual value of the assets was difficult leaving accountants with no knowledge on the assets.Based on this results, the study recommends that management should develop more effective strategies that will ensure that internal control is effective and efficient, so that fraud perpetration in the organization will be significantly reduced. The study also recommends that the company should work to correct its internal control system by periodic reconciliation of accounts.
