Bertotti, Anelise Losangela.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleCurrently the methodology of Lu-Hf is one of the most widely used in geochronology, especially in in situ analysis in zircon by LA-ICP-MS. The interest in the application of this methodology, when it has a system like LA-ICP-MS, should be consigned to relative simplicity, sensitivity and speed of analysis. The high concentration and low mobility of Hf in zircon, provide isotopic ratios and model ages highly accurate that can support not only important inferences about the age of mantle extraction, but also as to its possible evolutionary history, provenance and related studies. Thus, the thesis project was elaborated based on main objectives, learning, implementation and application of Lu-Hf methodology in zircon by ICP-MS. Zircons from three different areas, previously dated by U-Pb method, were analyzed: Capivarita Anorthosite (Brazil), Aburrá Ophiolite (Colombia) and Camamu Basin (Brazil). The Lu-Hf in situ analyses were performed using equipments such as Neptune ICP-MS (ThermoFinnigan), and lasers Excimer 193 nm (ArF, GeoLas) and UP 213 (Nd: YAG, New Wave). The studied ophiolite consists of ultramafic and mafic rocks. Analyses of 12 grains revealed Hf(t) between +2.01 and +5.35, while the TDM model ages values resulted in a range between 1.15 and 1.44 Ga, suggesting the presence of a juvenile magma with possible crustal contamination and strong affinity with the rocks of the Rondonian-San Ignacio Province. Magmatic and metamorphic zircons from Capivarita Anorthosite, located in the NE portion of the Sul-Rio-Grandense Shield, were part of a comparison study to verify the reproducibility of obtained data by Lu-Hf methodology developed in the LGI. Analyses were performed first in the LGI-UFGRS (Brazil) and then at MAFIIC-MUN (Canada). Results from both laboratories show good reproducibility, TDM ages and Hf(t) values obtained are in agreement within experimental errors. These results provide information on the origin of anorthosite and suggested a juvenile source for the melt with some degree of Paleoproterozoic crustal contamination. Camamu Basin is related to the breakup of Gondwana and belongs to the group of sedimentary basins on the eastern Brazilian margin. Detrital zircons of Brotas and Almada Groups, related to the pre-rift and rift phases of the basin, were analyzed by U-Pb and Lu-Hf. In Brotas Group, 70% of analyzed zircons are Vendian-Cambrian age, from the Araçuaí-West Congo Belt taking into account the paleocurrent measurements from S-SW to N-NE. In Almada Group, the main sources of the zircons are Paleoproterozoic and Archean, with direct provenance from the basement adjacent to West Camamu Basin which is consistent with the paleocurrent measurements from west to east of the studied units. The analyzed Paleoproterozoic and Archean zircons, even the Neoproterozoic and Eopaleozoic show a strong reworked crustal component with small contribution of juvenile crust. However, the Lu-Hf methodology by LA-ICP-MS applied to zircons from different areas showed the potential to provide accurate and reliable data for provenance and crustal growth studies in order to resize increasingly the geochronology.
Belissont, Rémi. „Germanium and related elements in sulphide minerals : crystal chemistry, incorporation and isotope fractionation“. Thesis, Université de Lorraine, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016LORR0049/document.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleGermanium is a critical metalloid in many high-tech industries, especially for the energy transition and the communication sector. Being distinctly siderophile, lithophile, chalcophile and organophile, Ge can be a particularly useful geochemical tracer. This thesis aims at understanding the Ge geochemistry and the factors controlling its concentration in Ge-bearing minerals and ore deposits. Three contrasted Ge-bearing deposits were studied, the Saint-Salvy Zn vein-type deposit, French Massif Central, the Barrigão Cu vein-type deposit, Iberian pyrite belt, Portugal, and the Kipushi Zn–Cu carbonate-hosted deposit, Central African copper-belt, D.R. Congo. The most important Ge-bearing minerals are sphalerite (up to 2580 ppm Ge), chalcopyrite (up to 5750 ppm Ge), and renierite (5.0–9.1 wt.% Ge). The results show a first order relation between the Ge content and the deposition temperature. Synchrotron-based XANES spectroscopy showed that Ge4+ occur in tetrahedral sites in the studied sulphides. Element correlations suggest that Ge is chiefly incorporated in sphalerite and chalcopyrite through coupled substitutions, e.g., 3Zn2+ ↔ Ge4+ + 2(Cu,Ag)+ and 3Fe3+ ↔ 2Ge4+ + Cu+, respectively, or via the creation of lattice vacancies, e.g., 2Zn2+ ↔ Ge4+ + ?. The positive δ74Ge–Ge content correlation observed in sphalerite from Saint-Salvy could indicate that Ge partition coefficient (KdGe) increases with temperature. Ge isotopes in sulphides yield δ74Ge values spanning from –5.72‰ to +3.67‰. The light δ74Ge compositions of Saint-Salvy and Barrigão ores appear to be related to variations in low to moderate fluid temperatures during Ge uptake in open system (e.g., fluid cooling), while the trend towards heavy δ74Ge compositions observed at Kipushi likely translates a Rayleigh fractionation effect during ore formation in closed system, associated with significant fluid modification

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIn addition to the quantitative and speciation analysis, the analysis of mercury stable isotopes by MC-ICP-MS are now a tool of choice to track sources and pathways of this element in the environment. This PhD thesis presents the development of hyphenation between pre-concentration techniques and MC-ICP-MS to measure isotopic composition of mercury at ng.L-1 levels (Ultra-trace). The on-line pre-concentration strategy will create short transient signals which represent a real challenge for MC-ICP-MS. In order to solve it, a data treatment strategy for this particular signals and a correction method for the isotopic drift were developed. The hyphenation between a cold vapor generation, a dual gold amalgamation (CVG-DGA) and a MC-ICP-MS was developed to determine total mercury isotopic composition. This new technique gives external precisions ranging from 0.20 to 0.30‰ (2SD) for Hg concentration in solution of 5 ng.L-1. This PhD thesis also reports a new method to perform mercury compound specific isotopic analysis (CSIA) using a gas chromatography fitted with a PTV injector (GC-PTV) coupled to the MC-ICP-MS. This allows the isotopic analysis of several species with external precisions ranging from 0.30 to 0.40‰ (2SD) for mercury concentration down to 150 ng.L-1 in biological samples. The analytical developments proposed in this PhD thesis allows to automatically and directly measure mercury isotopic compositions at ultra-trace levels (down to 5 ng.L-1) while keeping precision compatible with main environmental questions. This will allow to analyze environmental compartment containing very low amount of mercury (natural waters, planktons,…) and then open new perspectives for a better understanding of the bio-geochimical cycle of mercury

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleScientific explorations implemented for around forty years allow to identifying the diversity and the complexity of geological and geochemical processes conducting to metals concentration on the deep seafloor. Fe- and Mn-rich metalliferous deposits such as hydrogenetic and hydrothermal ferromanganese (Fe-Mn) crusts and polymetallic nodules, present various enrichment in elements of economic interests like Ni, Cu, Co, Te, Pt and Rare Earth Elements. Although the mineralogy and geochemistry of these deposits have been largely studied in the literature, metal sources remain poorly determined. Accordingly, understanding the geochemistry of these deposits implies to know which processes are involved in their formation but also to have a better knowledge of the sources (e.g. the continental and hydrothermal fluxes) and their importance in the global oceanic metal biogeochemical cycles. In order to fill this gap, our approach consisted in using metal stable isotope compositions as biogeochemical tracers. This project is organized around two hypotheses, (1) development and utilization of a new geochemical tool, namely Ni isotopes, for tracing metal enrichment sources and processes in oceanic metalliferous deposits; (2) combination of several isotope systematics such as Fe, Pb, Cu, Zn (and Ni) in Fe-Mn crusts as proxies of the deep seawater isotope composition. Upon developing an analytical method for measuring Ni isotopes by MC-ICP-MS and estimating the Ni isotopes variability in natural systems through the characterization of terrestrial reservoirs, we experimentally evaluated Ni isotope fractionation during adsorption on Fe- and Mn-oxyhydroxides since similar processes may potentially occur in natural Fe-Mn deposits. Results indicate that after Ni adsorption, the solid phase is enriched in light Ni isotopes relatively to the solution with fractionation factors (Δ60/58Nimin/sol) varying from -1 ‰ for birnessite, -0.9 ‰ for goethite and -0.4 ‰ for ferrihydrite. These results, and other recent studies, strengthen our hypothesis according to which Ni isotopes variability in Fe- and Mn-rich metalliferous deposits can be explained by enrichment and formation processes during metal incorporation in Fe and Mn mineral phases rather than variations in the isotopic composition of the sources. Thus, hydrogenetic Fe-Mn crusts formed slowly from seawater dissolved metals do not show significant Ni isotope fractionation, whereas hydrothermal deposits formed by relatively rapid processes as a result of hydrothermal inputs exhibit important Ni isotope fractionation

Abstract: New isotopic results Pb/Pb of the UQ-Z1 standard reference and the synthetic glass standard NBS 610, obtained by Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Multicollector Mass Spectrometry - LA-ICP-MC-MS, model ISO PLASMA TRACE, have been evaluated and systematically treated. Besides the calculation of the ages through the Pb/Pb ratios for UQ-Z1, such results have been compared with those available in literature by other analytical techniques: ID-TIMS; monocollector LA-ICP-MS and SHRIMP. The results of treatment consisted in: 1) the mass bias correction of the equipment based on the 2o_lpO3TI ratios of NBS 610; 2) the elimination of the 204Hg interferences on the peak of 204Pb from the 202Hg intensities; 3) the common lead correction based on the 204Pb intensities; 4) the statistical treatment with rejection of up to 15% of raw isotopic Pb/Pb ratios, considering the average ± 1 standard deviation (1 s). The Pb/Pb ratios of the NBS 6100btained in this work agree with other techniques, despite the larger uncertainty. The average age determined for the UQ-Z1 was 1144 Ma ± 34 (2s). This number is close to the value used as reference (1143 Ma ± 1 (2s)) obtained by ID-TIMS, however, approximately30 times larger uncertainty. Compared with other techniques, the ages obtained yielded average ages closest to the reference age than the ages determined by monocollector LA-ICP-MS (1116 Ma ± 47 (1s) (Machado & Gautier, 1996); 1146 :t 56 (1s) (Machado et aI., 1996) and 1148 :t 5 (2s) (Bruguier et aI., 2001)) and by SHRIMP (1138 :t 32 (2s) (Schrank et aI. 1997)). The achieved results demonstrate the advantage of the LA-ICP-MC-MS technique in relation to others, as well as in speed, in the time spent and in the lower cost of the analyses. In comparison with the ID-TIMS technique, the LA-ICP-MC-MS presents still another advantage as the measurements are made directly on the solid sample without previous chemical attacks. From these studies it can also be concluded that the LA-ICP-MC-MS is an appropriate analytical technique for studies on the provenience of detritic sediments that need a great amount of data of isotopic ratios, to allow the identification of zircon with distinct origins

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleArchaeological studies are often subject to strict preservation requirements, as samples may be valuable, fragile and/or limited in quantity. In some contexts, sampling may also need to be carried out in situ and may involve surfaces or targets that are difficult to access. Unfortunately, few methods are currently able to address all of these issues at once, and there is a real need for targeted, minimally invasive sampling methods. This is particularly the case when the analyses necessarily require the removal of material and cannot be replaced by non-destructive methods. In response to this situation, this PhD project focused on the development of a portable laser ablation field micro-sampling method designed to provide respectful sampling in a format suitable for field use and complex environments. After the development of the method, we explored its potential in the case of uranium-thorium geochronometer dating of geological samples, in particular calcite speleothems often associated with prehistoric cave art. The proposed sampling method exploits the natural laser ablation capabilities of a portable LIBS (Z300, Sciaps), the tip of which has been modified by 3D printing to incorporate a particle collection module. This combination allows to obtain on-site information directly from LIBS spectra and to collect laser-induced particles for ICP-MS analysis. We then adapted this method to the collection of micro-samples (~1mg) of calcite (mainly speleothems, but also corals) with the aim of dating them by the U/Th method. As part of this application, we also had to define a method for solubilising the particles collected by laser ablation in order to extract the isotopic information they contain. A first step of preliminary testing was then carried out and two samples (a speleothem and a coral) were successfully dated by MC-ICP-MS (nu 1700) following the conventional dating protocol for this type of analysis. We then worked on an alternative chemical preparation method using Cloud Point Extraction (CPE), which in this case allows uranium and thorium to be extracted without the constraints of the conventional preparation method, in particular the use of radioactive tracers. To this end, we have developed and optimized a CPE system for quantitative extraction of uranium and thorium isotopes, designed for 1 mg calcite micro-samples containing a maximum concentration of 2 ppm of total uranium and thorium. This method was tested by dating a set of known samples collected using the method developed for this thesis and analyzed by Q3-ICP-MS (Agilent 8900). This final study provided a proof of concept for the entire analytical protocol developed. Finally, we also explored another application for this sampling method, working on cinnabar pigments (Hg-S) used in Roman wall frescoes discovered in Pompeii. However, laser ablation of these pigments led to isotopic fractionation of the mercury, altering its isotopic signature and highlighting certain limitations of the method

Combined U-Pb and Lu-Hf in situ analyzes on zircon of magmatic rocks by LA-MC-ICP-MS allow to determine the age and isotopic signature of these rocks, providing valuable information for crustal evolution studies. The application of this systematic, due to its relative simplicity, sensitivity and speed of analysis, is currently one of the most efficient and widely used tools for isotopic and geochronological studies. The southeastern Guiana Shield (GS) is part of the Maroni-Itacaiúnas geotectonic/geochronological Province (MIP) of the Amazonian Craton (AC). The MIP represents an expressive orogenic belt consolidated in the Paleoproterozoic during the Transamazonian orogenic cycle (2.26-1.95 Ga), that includes large segments of Rhyacian juvenile crust and some reworked Archean remnants. It consists mainly of Paleoproterozoic granulitic-migmatitic-gneissic complexes, deformed and metamorphosed metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks and granitoids (granitic and TTG magmatism). Three tectonic domains are individualized in Brazilian territory of the MIP/GS, called Amapá Block (AB), south-central Amapá and northwest of Pará region, Lourenço Domain (LD), north-central Amapá, and Carecuru Domain (CD), northwest of Pará. The AB is a Neo-Mesoarchean continental block intensely reworked during the Transamazonian Cycle, while the other two domains represent dominantly Rhyacian landmass, with evolution involving stages of subduction of oceanic lithosphere in island and/or continental magmatic arc environments, with relics of reworked Archean continental crust, followed by a colisional stage of tectonic accretion of the magmatic arcs. The objective of this thesis was to implement the experimental procedures of the combined U-Pb and Lu-Hf methodology in zircon by LAMC-ICP-MS at the Pará-Iso/UFPA laboratory and to investigate, in the light of the new U-Pb and Lu-Hf data, the crustal reworking and accretion processes during the Archean and Paleoproterozoic at the southeastern GS. In addition to the AB, some sporadic remnants and inherited Archean zircons have been found in Paleoproterozoic granitoids and raise questions about the involvement and extension of the Archean continental crust in the LD and CD. Whole-rock Sm-Nd data have confirmed the juvenile character of much of MIP. However, for the LD and CD, recurrent Archean Nd-TDM model ages have been identified and also indicate a participation and/or mixing of Neo-Mesoarchean crustal material in the formation of the rocks of these domains. Although several isotopic and geochronological studies have already been carried out in the southeastern GS, the application of combined U-Pb and Lu-Hf analyzes in zircon is still unprecedented. The implantation of Lu-Hf and U-Pb in situ methods in zircon was carried out using a high-resolution Neptune Thermo Finnigan MC-ICP-MS, equipped with a CETAC Nd: YAG 213 nm laser microprobe model LSX-213 G2. ICP-MS and laser instrumentation and operation parameters were established after several analytical sections in order to achieve a satisfactory routine configuration. The results obtained for international reference materials reproduced the literature values with the precision, accuracy and reproducibility necessary for the routine establishment of both U-Pb and Lu-Hf procedures for in situ analyzes of zircons by LA-MC-ICP-MS at the Pará-Iso/UFPA. The description of the experimental protocol and instrumentation for each method, as well as the first results performed on zircon from granitoids/metagranitoids distributed in the three tectonic domains mentioned above were published as two book chapters. Next, isotopic analyzes were performed on zircon of eighteen samples of the AB and LD/CD units. The new U-Pb data consolidated the identification of the main magmatic episodes in the southeasternmost part of the GS. In the AB, two Mesoarchean (~ 3.2 and 2.85 Ga) and one Neoarchean (2.65-2.69 Ga) magmatic events were identified, as well as those in the LD (~ 2.18, 2.14, and 2.12-2.09 Ga) and CD (2.15-2.14 Ga). The Lu-Hf data pointed to the predominance of crustal reworking processes (ƐHf(t) < 0) during the AB and LD/CD formation. The Hf-TDMC model ages ranged from 2.99 to 3.97 Ga for AB and subsidized the identification of two periods of continental crust formation, one in the Eoarchean (~ 4.0 Ga) and the other in the Mesoarchean (3,0- 3.1 Ga). The latter is recognized at a global scale as an important period of crustal accretion. The Eoarchean episode is unprecedent for the southeast of GS and indicates that the crustal growth in the AC started at least 500 Ma earlier than previously suggested (3.51 Ga, whole-rock Nd-TDM). In the Rhyacian domains (LD/CD), the Hf-TDMC model ages were found to be mostly Archean (98.4%). Together with the Nd-Hf isotopic signatures, they indicated the participation of AB crustal material by sediments incorporation in island arc environment in the northwest of the LD, as it has also been recorded in the northwest of Suriname and in the Birimian terrains in Ghana (West African Craton). In the south/southeast of the LD and in the CD assimilation of Archean crust of different ages and proportions in a continental magmatic arc environment may account for the Hf-Nd isotopic signatures and Hf-TDMC model ages of Rhyacian magmatism.

_________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
The final amalgamation and consolidation of the South American Platform, at the end of the Neoproterozoic-Cambrian, occurred due to a series of collisions during the Brazilian orogenesis (Pan-African, Ca. 600 Ma), followed by late-to-post-orogenetic magmatic events, along the boundaries of the Brasília and Paraguay Belts, in the central portion of Brazil. The oldest granites produced by this magmatism are located in the west of Goiás (540 Ma), Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul states and display petrographic and geochemical characteristics of highly differentiated calc-alkaline type I granitoids, while the younger intrusions (508-485 Ma) are more alkaline and similar to the type A granites. The Transbrasilian Lineament is the main tectonic feature of the location and limits the Brasília and Paraguay Belts. On both sides of the lineament poorly known gneisses occur, intruded by post-tectonic granites. The focus of this work is the systematic study of the Nd (TIMS) isotopes and UPb geochronology (LA-MC- ICPMS) of gneisses of the Aruanã-Araguaiana region of Mato Grosso, and post-tectonic granites at the Sonora-Taboco region of Mato Grosso do Sul. Our aim is to find absolute ages of the magmatism in order to better understand the crustal evolution of this region. The occurrence of rocks with isotopic signatures similar of those from Aruanã region, west of the Transbrasilian Lineament, is documented for the first time. Gneisses display ages between 0.86 and 1.03 Ga (TDM model age), leading to the conclusion that the arc or its fragments might be present in the area along the lineament, placed by the action of directional tectonical processes. The gneisses of the Bom Jardim de Goiás region, east of the Transbrasilian Lineament, are originated from the magmatic arc of Arenópolis, subdivided into 2 groups: the first shows isotopic signatures typical of juvenile Neoproterozoic arcs, with model ages varying between 0.7 and 1.0 Ga (TDM model age), and the second group of rocks have model ages varying between 1.80 and 2.50 Ga (TDM model age), which could be evidence of rocks generated from the reworking of the old continental crust. U-Pb (LA-MC-ICPMS) analyses performed on zircons from gnaisses of the Aruanã and Bom Jardim de Goiás region showed a crystallization age around 800 Ma to 680 Ma, with positive εNd (t) values, between +4.26 and +5.70, which reinforces the juvenile characteristics of this rocks. Intrusions on the south portion of Mato Grosso do Sul represented by the Taboco, Rio Negro and Coxim bodies have ages of 540 Ma (U-Pb, zircons). Syenomonzogranites and monzogranites to granodiorites predominate, with negative εNd (t) values, between -7.86 and -6.24, with model ages varying from 1.59 to 1.97 Ga, (TDM model age), revealing the crustal character of their sources and the presence of a Cambrian event in the region. In Mato Grosso, post-orogenetic granites are represented by the Araguaiana, São Vicente and Lajinha bodies with TDM age between 1.33 and 1.74 Ga, suggesting a mix of old and young sources. Additionally, Lu-Hf (LA-MC-ICPMS) data from zircons of the Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul granites, show similar results of those obtained by the Nd isotopic method, with ages (TDM) varying from 1.19 to 1.81 Ga, and εHf (t) values between -7.58 and +4.22. This data could suggest a mixture of magma from the Mesoproterozoic mantle (positive εHf (t) values) and an old Paleoproterozoic crustal contribution (negative εHf (t) values). The Goiás Magmatic Arc has been considered to be restricted to the east of the Transbrasilian Lineament, therefore the identification of rocks with the same isotopical signature along other portions of the lineament suggests that the arc could be more extensive than previously suggested. Therefore, rocks derived form distinct sources, whether originated from juvenile Neoproterozoic environments or from crustal reworking of Paleoproterozoic crustal sources are placed side by side, due to the kinematics of the transcurrent shearing zones. The presence of magmatic rocks generated during a Cambrian event on the Tocantins Province requires mores investigation in order to develop new hypothesis for a model to correlate these events to those of Pampeanos and in Avalonia terrains, as suggested by Fernando Flavio de Almeida (2004).

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleNuclear forensics aims at determining the age, provenance as well as industrial or storage history of uranium ores and uranium ore concentrates that are part of the nuclear fuel cycle. Several potential tracers have already been identified for this purpose. However, these tracers are not providing always unambiguous information. This study is focused on establishing Mo isotopes as a new tracer of uranium ore provenance and of ore processing for its application in nuclear forensics. Molybdenum and uranium share a number of common geochemical properties. In the nuclear fuel cycle, molybdenum is an impurity that is difficult to separate during uranium extraction and purification processes, while its concentration is required to be lower than some specification limits. We focused this study on the first part of the nuclear fuel cycle, from the uranium ores extraction to the production of uranium ore concentrates. We developed an enhanced separation method for Mo from a uranium-rich matrix (uranium ores, uranium minerals, uranium ore concentrates) in order to analyze the mass fractionation induced by processes typical of the nuclear fuel cycle. Molybdenum isotopic compositions in uranium ores depend of adsorption and precipitation processes. The δ98Mo values of sedimentary uranium ores is shifted to negative values relative to magmatic ores. This provides a means of distinguishing these types of uranium ores. Uranium ores concentrates produced from both uranium ore natures (magmatic and sedimentary) have Mo isotope compositions similar to the uranium ores. These results suggest that molybdenum isotopes have a strong potential of as a tracer for identifying the origin of the uranium ore concentrates. However, Mo isotopes fractionations were established during the production of uranium ore concentrates in the both Niger mills. We reproduced in laboratory the lixiviation, solvent extraction and precipitation processes to explain these observations. The Mo isotopes fractionation is positive for the lixiviation process, negative for the solvent extraction and precipitation with hydrogen peroxide, and null for ammonia precipitation. In the case of the Niger samples, the sum of these processes is negative and agrees with our experimental data. Mo isotopes have a strong potential as a tracer for identifying the origin and transformation of uranium in the nuclear fuel cycle, in the framework of nuclear forensics

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) is a key feature of the climate system. However, its dynamical evolution during an Interglacial / Glacial transition is still poorly constrained. This study aims at better understanding this evolution by focusing on the Last Glacial Inception (130,000 to 60,000 yr) and at studying the links between the AMOC and ice-sheet growth in response to Northern Hemisphere summer insolation. This study is based on the firsts (231Pa/230Th) data – a proxy for AMOC export – covering this period of time. The (231Pa/230Th) have been measured in 5 sedimentary cores chosen in the depth range between 2200 m and 3650 m in the North Atlantic Ocean. We show that the AMOC export in-depth structure varied significantly in between MIS 5. 5 and MIS 4. These variations are associated with changes in deep water chemistry. The evolution of the AMOC export in decoupled between intermediate (above 2500 m) and deep (around 3500 m) water depth. The intermediate water export is mainly driven by shifts of the Polar Front, itself driven by changes in Northern Hemisphere summer insolation amplified through high latitudes climate system. The deep-water export lags by several thousand years changes in Northern Hemisphere summer insolation and appears to respond to the ice-sheets dynamics. During the transitions towards cold MIS 5 substages, the decoupling implies a stronger heat transport by surface circulation that feeds Northern high latitude ice-sheet growth

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe Neoproterozoic post-collisional stage in south Brazil is marked by intense granitic magmatism controlled by transcurrent shear zones all related to the Southern Brazilian Shear Belt (SBSB). The SBSB controls the ascent and emplacement of crustal and mantle magmas. In such scenario, the Corre-mar Granite (CMG), represent a small intrusion emplaced in a low strain zone located between two important segments of the SBSB: the Major Gercino and Itajaí-Perimbó Shear Zones. The CMG have a diagnostic subvertical foliation pair that form a sinistral S-C pair, present in all intrusions regardless of their size, and was emplaced within a conjugate system, where sinistral NNE shearing and NW-SE extension were both active, generating space along the NE direction. Solid state deformation associated to the NNE shearing is attested by microstructures as feldspar recrystallization and asymmetric recrystallization tails. The opening is attributed to the regional dextral transcurrent dynamics of the Major Gercino and Itajaí-Perimbó shear zones and magma emplacement was essentially conditioned by the NW extension component. The zircon U-Pb LA-MC-ICP-MS crystallization age of CMG at 615 ± 4 Ma, very close to other regional granites, as the 611 Ma Serra dos Macacos (SMG) and 620 Ma Rio Pequeno Granite (RPG) points these three granitic bodies as quite synchronous. The strong deformation features present in the CMG, as opposed to the other nearby Neoproterozoic granites (RPG and SMG) demonstrate that space, rather than time, must be called upon to explain the difference in the structural patterns identified in the CMG. Geochemical and Sr-Nd isotopic signatures, as slight peraluminous character, high-K contents, high LREE/HREE ratios, moderate Rb, Nb, Zr, and REE contents to regular SiO2, together with low 86Sr/87Sri and the strongly negative εNdt values indicate that the CMG is derived from old crustal sources possibly related to the Paleoproterozoic Camboriú Complex quartz-feldspatic orto-gneissic rocks. The match of the Archean to Paleoproterozoic inheritance ages of the CMG with the migmatization event ages identified in the Camboriú Complex and moreover the match of the crystallization ages of ~615-611 Ma of the crustalderived granites with the last migmatization event at 640-610 Ma reinforces the genetic link between them. The Paleoproterozoic TDM ages, the geochemical and isotopic signatures, the crystallization and inheritance ages resemblance of the CMG and the SMG attest that they represent comagmatic and contemporaneous granitic pulses with a genetic connection with the Neoproterozoic migmatization event in the Camboriu Complex.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis work reports the investigation of the mercury (Hg) isotopes composition in several environmental compartments and anthropogenic materials in order to use Hg isotopes to discriminate and trace anthropogenic contamination sources in the environment. First, this work summarizes results from isotopic analysis in multiple environmental matrices and reference materials. Secondly, it reports mass dependent and mass independent fractionation measured during experimental works of liquid Hg evaporation and abiotic reduction by green rust. A third part consists in showing how to use Hg isotope composition to discriminate and trace anthropogenic as well as natural sources. Hg isotope compositions measured in lichens from an urban area display significant range of mass dependent and mass independent fractionation characteristic of the geographical area that can be use to discriminate the atmospheric Hg sources (anthropogenic and atmospheric pool). Hg isotope compositions in contaminated and urban soils indicate that the isotope signature of the anthropogenic source was preserved with the time and the soils conditions. This demonstrates the potential use of Hg isotopes as tracer of anthropogenic sources. Finally, this work presents preliminary results on the Hg isotopic composition of fumes emissions of a municipal solid waste combustor located in an urban area. Isotope fractionation was found during the condensation of the fumes. The isotopic composition of the HgII fraction at the stack exhaust indicates mass dependent fractionation whereas the Hg0 fraction may be affected by mass independent fractionation giving novel insight for anthropogenic source tracing
