Water, energy, and food are essential resources for social and economic development, which are highly interwoven in the urban metabolic processes. The 2011 Bonn conference first introduced the concept of water-energy-food (WEF) nexus to describe the interconnection of three resources. In this study, taking the Yangtze River Delta region as a case study, we proposed a hybrid framework to quantify WEF consumption based on an environmentally extended multiregional input-output model. Then, various ecological network analyses were adopted to explore system properties and sectoral interaction. The

The McClellan–Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System (MKARNS) is challenged by an aging infrastructure and by limited maintenance budgets, all of which cause transportation delays. In this study, the Maritime Transportation Simulator (MarTranS), which is a hybrid of agent-based modeling, discrete-event simulation, system dynamics, and multiregional input-output analysis, was adopted to model the relationship between the components of the system and economic impact factors. A hybrid PWM converter is proposed and investigated to realize the benefits of wide zero-voltage switching (ZVS) operation, wide voltage input operation, and low circulating current for direct current (DC) wind power conversion and solar PV power conversion applications. Compared to the drawbacks of high freewheeling current and hard switching operation of active devices at the lagging-leg of conventional full bridge PWM converter, a three-leg PWM converter is studied to have wide input-voltage operation (120–600 V). For low input-voltage condition (120–270 V), two-leg full bridge converter wi

With the development of global value chains, more and more countries are involved in global trade, which has brought an extensive social impact. Past studies on the employment impact of trade have pointed out that free trade has significantly boosted employment in developing economies, with large populations working in export-related jobs along the value chains. Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused global trade protectionism to become more rampant. This study aims to establish a trade employment effect accounting model, based on the comparison of multiple scenarios, to discuss the employ

A hybrid-driven five-bar linkage mechanism with one input cycle corresponding to two output cycles is presented. The proposed linkage mechanism is driven by a constant-speed motor and a linear motor, respectively. The output link can generate two same required output cycles during a single input cycle, while the rotational input link rotates with a constant angular speed, and the linear input link follows a reciprocating motion along a specified linear guide fixed on the rotational input link. The configuration, displacement relationship between the input and output links, and conditions of mo

AbstractThis study examined the impact of digital inputs on global supply‐chain security. Using data from the Asian Development Bank Multiregional Input–Output database, covering 62 countries or regions and 35 industries from 2007 to 2022, digital inputs were found to enhance the level of supply‐chain security significantly. In times of crisis prevention, digital inputs not only improved supply‐chain security but also contributed to a notable recovery effect. Mechanism tests indicated that digital inputs enhanced supply‐chain security mainly by improving information transmission efficiency and
