Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe purpose of this essay was to account for the preventive work on threats and violence but also the management of threats and violence in high school. Thus, a qualitative interview study was used with principals, teachers and a counselor´s who provided answers to the following questions; how threats and violence were prevented in high school, how threats and violence were indentified in high school and how threats and violence in high school were adressed. The staff´s answers to these questions were analyzed on the basis of Paulo Freire´s liberation theory and thus gave a clearer picture of school´s sitaution regarding threats and violence. Awareness-raising (conscientização) meant that the action plans were critically reflected on, which were updated annually, as well as a review of student surveys and employee surveys. The work team discussed and shared experinces that were part of raising awareness of threats and violence. In addition to the work team, different experiences were shared through lectures, litterature and podcasts, which increased knowledge about threats and violence. The students discussed the values, norms and the world of oppressed and the opressors. In addition, knowledge was needed about which actors were present within the school, such as student health teams, which usually consisted of a counselors, psychologists and school doctor. In addition, a crisis group consisted of other professions such as pastor, deacon, mentor, priest or imam. In the event of major disasters and accidents, support and advice from the social services and the POSOM group were availible. Concepts: Threats and violence were made aware, in school, close relationships, at home, children got hurt, student health team, Crisis-group, Social services, Police, POSOM group

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground: Threats and violence is a common phenomenon in health care. Patients are the dominated group who perform these actions. There are a number of triggering factors for threats and violence, which are among other things due to deficiencies in the organization, the working environment, patient dissatisfaction, patient's circumstances that induce threats and violence or factors of the nurse that provokes violence. The risk of threats and violence as a nurse is affected by how nurse's treat patients, the nurses experience, age and gender. The preventive measures to reduce incidents of threat and violence includes processing the above triggering factors, which are the main causes of threats and violence. Aim: To describe the causes and the consequences of threats and violence against nurses and how it can be prevented. Method: A literature review based on ten scientific articles with qualitative approach taken the databases PubMed and CINAHL. In order to obtain relevant information for the literature review, bearing concepts were identified which subsequently created three themes during the process of achieving a result; "Cause of Threats and Violence", "Consequences of Threats and Violence," "Prevention of Threats and Violence". Result: The consequences for threats and violence affected both the nurse's working life and privacy, it also affected the patients negatively. The cause of threats and violence was identified as three contributing factors; organizational deficiencies, nurses approach and patients' circumstances. Threats and violence can be prevented if nurses review their interactions with patients and individualize the care, at the same time as the organization reviews and addresses its deficiencies. Conclusion: All three contributing factors identified as the cause of threats and violence can be revised and developed to reduce the number of incidents of threat and violence. However, there was a knowledge gap about how this would be achieved and regardless of whether there was an action plan, barriers arose that prevented the solution of the problem.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThreats and violence in the health care profession is something that is not unique to Sweden but it exists in other countries. In some cases, threats and violence lead to longer sick leave but also in death. The purpose of this study was to investigate factors that could reduce the threats and violence towards nurses in the workplace. The study was conducted according to Goodman's systematic approach and searches have been made in Pubmed, Cinahl, Medline and The Cochrane Library. Quantitative and qualitative studies are included in the literature search. A total of 10 articles were selected out of the study and on the basis of these results was found in five different categories, security, safety, accessibility, education and personal qualities. The results show that the factors that reduced threats and violence were among the other guards, safety devices, to read patients' medical records and more. The results showed that these factors are largely consistent with the presence of threats and violence.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe violence in society of today is increasing. This violence spreads into our workplaces even into medical services. Hospital staff is educated in taking care of patients on the basis of nursing science and medical experiences. Verbal and physical aggressions may complicate the care. The aim of this review was to look into the incidence and experience of threats and violence in somatic care. Ten scientific articles were included, analyzed and scrutinized. The result showed that the frequency of threats and violence is high in somatic care. It affects the work environment because the nursing staff is aware of the possibility of being exposed to violence. The estimate frequency of threats and violence could even by higher since a lot of incidences were not reported. The review revealed that the nurses exposed to threats and violence experienced different feelings, such as fear, anger and guilt. To improve the situation for both the patients and the working staff a continuous education in handling violent situation is recommended by the authors, starting in nursing schools.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleTitle: “Threats and violence - A part of the job?” - A description of the social services´ security work with threats and violence. Authors: Tess Hellman and Caroline Ivarsson The purpose of this study is to investigate how a selection of social services works with security issues regarding threats and violence. The main questions are: ❖ Which security work does the social services have regarding threats and violence? ❖ How does social workers work before, during and after a client meeting when there is a fear that the meeting will become threatful or unsafe? ❖ How does social workers experience their safety work at their workplace regarding threats and violence? The study is qualitative and empirical data has been collected through interviews from six social workers that works at various social offices in central Sweden. The empirical data has since been interpreted through a content analysis where the following main themes have emerged: Description of security work, Description of routines and Description of the respondent’s experiences. The empirical data has been analysed based on previous research and the theories Normalization Process Theory and KASAM. The result shows that the various social offices that the respondent´s represent work differently with threats and violence. Some respondents have received education and have guidance. There are routines and guidelines for how to work with prevention with threats and violence, but also intervention after something has happened. Some routines that must be followed are that alarms are available at client meetings and at home visits it must be two social workers. The social workers do not always follow the routines that exist. One reason for this is that “threats and violence” are perceived differently. What someone thinks is threatening may not be threatening to someone else.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground: During the 1990s threat and violence began to be acknowledged, which lead to more reports in the area. But there is still a need to highlight different risk factors that affects the prevalence of threats and violence and the consequences for the nurse. Aim: The aim of the study was to highlight risk factors regarding threats and violence against nurses in somatic hospital wards for adults, and the handling and eventual consequences of threats and violence against nurses. Method: The result is built up on 17 quantitative scientific articles that have been critically reviewed to get material relevant to this study. Results: The result shows that there are organizational, patient and nurse related threats and violence risk factors. It was shown that nurses often got emotional harms after an incident. This could also cause an insecurity regarding the career-choice. There was hesitation among nurses to report threat- and violence incidents and many chose not to talk about what had happened. There were also nurses that handled the threats and violence incidents by changing their behavior. Discussion of results: Education in threats and violence is an important preventive measure. By this the nurse can learn to handle outward behavioral patients and thereby remain a professional approach. It is also important that healthcare management invites to a dialog after the incidents to increase the nurses safety in their profession.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground: Threats and violence against healthcare workers is today a growing problem worldwide. Healthcare personnel are at an increased risk of being subjected to threats and violence by their patients. Health workers are caregivers and advocates for their patients and if they become subject to threats or violence, previous research has shown that the consequences can be many both for caregivers and patients. Aim: The aim of this study was to illuminate the experiences of threat and violence by patients on healthcare personnel. Method: This literature review study included 8 scientific, qualitative articles compiled and analyzed with a description of qualitative content analysis with inductive approach. Article search was performed in the databases Cinahl, PsycINFO, PubMed and Scopus. Results: The results show that the experience of being subjected to threats and violence leads to a lot of strong feelings for the victimized health care worker. Feelings are, for the most part, of negative character and include feeling of threatened and afraid, feeling both anger in general and anger directed toward patients, feeling powerless and feeling hopelessness and depression. Threats and violence also lead to other negative consequences for the staff. These include, among other things, that motivation is lowered, and that workers find themselves “taking their work home with them”, which affects their private lives, often in detrimental ways. Affected workers also expressed a strong desire for support for victims, and knowledge and training for coping skills and tactics for dealing with difficult patients. Conclusion: The results of the literature review study shows that the experience of being subjected to threats and violence leads to many serious consequences for those who are affected. In order to improve the management of the consequences, education and support for healthcare personnel and further research in the area, to be able to prevent further incidents and help the healthcare workers who have been subjected, are required.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIn this study, police vulnerability to threats and violence has been examined. The study is based on qualitative method and seven qualitative semi-structured interviews have been conducted with police officers who actively work as police officers in the external service as well as with police officers who have worked in external service. The aim of the study was to create a deeper understanding of police officers’ experiences of vulnerability to threats and violence at work. To fulfill the purpose, three issues were formulated: “What kind of threat and violence are police officers exposed to in the external service?”, “How do police officers in external service experience their vulnerability to threats and violence?” and “What are the consequences of the vulnerability to threat and violence for police officers in external service?”. The collected empirical data has been analyzed based on the study's theoretical framework consisted in previous research which examined which factors entail risks for police officers to be exposed to threats and violence, normalization of threats and violence as well as theory of demand, control and social support at work. The results of the study show that the definition of threat and violence is based on the police officer’s subjective perception of the concept. All police officers testify of events where they were exposed to threats, violence or both at work. There are different types of threat and varying degrees of violence, where violence that arises during commotion in interventions is seen as a lower degree of violence and violent acts made with intent were considered as more serious types of violence. Regarding threats, it was perceived to be dependent on who pronounces the threat, whether the threat is directed against them personally or their family who primarily determine whether it is considered serious or not. The police officers tend to normalize and to tone down threatening and aggressive actions based on the perception that it is to some extent included in the role of working as a police officer to be exposed to threats and violence. However, the police officers do not consider it being okay to be subjected to threats and violence at work regardless of the circumstances. Furthermore, the results show that there are demands for performance to intervene in situations where there is a risk of being exposed to threats and violence and that the police officers feel that they have a high degree of control in the work. The vulnerability to threats and violence at work is handled by good social support at work.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground: An indisputable right for nurses is to have a safe and secure work environment so they can deliver a high quality care. To bring a clear definition of what threat and violence are, is an important part in the work to prevent threat and violence. One part of the problem is that the experience and understanding of threat and violence can be different from one person to another. Aim: The aim of this quality study was to emphasize Nurses experience of threat and violence at workplace. Method: The method used in this study was qualitative interviews in the sense to bring out the nurses experience. Four nurses at four different emergency divisions were interviewed. Results; Two leading categories emerged with 12 subcategories. The leading categories are: nurse’s experience of threat and violence and nurse’s management of threat and violence. Conclusion; This study shows that nurses experience threat and violenc at their workplace and that the increased amount of violence in the society reflects on what happens at the hospitals.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleAbstract Background: Threats and violence occurs, not only in the community, but also in our workplaces. Staff in the healthcare are one of the most vulnerable occupational categories in terms of work-related threats and violent situations. Studies showed that most nurses at some time been subject to threats and/or violence. Ambulance personnel are a particularly vulnerable profession. Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the presence of threats and violent situations that ambulance staff were exposed to in Jämtland County. Method: All active categories of staff in ambulance care in Jämtland County was asked about participation. A total of 91 questionnaires were answered, giving a response rate of 64 %. Results: The results showed that almost half of the staff employed in ambulance care in Jämtland County had been subjected to any form of threat and/or violence in the last three years. The perpetrator was in most cases an alcohol affected patient. The distances in the county and the absence of police forces were indicated as one of the problems. Conclusion: The study showed that over half of the victims of threats and violence experienced it as a problem. It affected not only the relationship between carer and patient in a negative sense, but also the relationship with the patient's relatives. Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground: The number of violent crimes is increasing in society. Threats and violence have also become increasingly common in healthcare. At the emergency department [ED], nurses are exposed to threats and violence to a great extent, relatives and patients carry out most of these incidents. Long waiting and lack of care cause suffering for patients in the ED. The nurse can reduce the patient's suffering by providing good care and reducing the risk of threats and violence. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe nurses' experiences of threats and violence in the ED. The nurses can reduce the suffering by providing good nursing care. Method: The purpose of the study was answered through a literature study with a descriptive qualitative approach based on eleven articles with qualitative approach. The data was collected from CINAHL and PubMed. Result: After the analysis, two categories were generated: "Vulnerability at work", "Normalization of the violence" and four subcategories: "Negative consequences in the daily work”, “A negative impact on the nurses’ profession”, “No action is taken to stop the violence” and “Considered a part of their work”. Conclusion: Threats and violence against nurses in the ED are common and a global problem. Nursing work is disrupted and negatively affected by threats and violence. Nurses experience fear of being exposed to threats and violence and this can have a negative effect on their mental and physical health. This literature study describes nurses' experience of threats and violence and can contribute to increased understanding of this phenomenon.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIntroduction - since the 1980’s the amount of paid workers subjected to workplace violence (WPW) has increased from 2 to 5%. Emergency departments have been identified as high risk environments for WPW and nurses are the most vulnerable. Being exposed to WPW has been shown to be a burden physically as well as mentally. For nurses and other healthcare professionals to be able to provide patients with optimal care and safety, they need to be able to feel safe themselves.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBackground: Threat and violence is a big social problem in today’s society. Between 2005 and 2009 there has been 3300 reported cases in Sweden of serious injury in the care sector due to work related violence or aggressive behavior, six out of ten complaints concerned nurses. This is not just a national problem but one that has been observed in many other countries around the globe. An international study has shown that 60% of ambulance paramedics have been the target of aggressive behavior or violence. The definition of violence and aggressive behavior can be wide and also subjective from person to person. Aim: To highlight ambulance nurses’ perceptions of threats and violence in their work. Method: Qualitative approach with interviews with one open question. Analysis of the interviews was conducted with a manifest content analysis. Result: The analysis of the interviews resulted in four kategories and all together 15 subkategories that highlights the ambulance nurses’ experiences. Violence and aggressive behavior can cause a myriad of thoughts and feelings. There are also many factors that play a roll in these type of incidents. Having the relent experience and training can help prevent these situations. The extent of violence and aggressive behavior varies. Ambulance nurses are most commonly subjected to verbal aggression and actual violent situations are not that common. Conclusion: Handling aggression and violent situations requires a professional approach that treats the patient with humility and respect. Ambulance nurses must strive for a common vision and approach to face these situations in their work. Therefore, ambulance nurses need more training to develop the tools needed to respond and deal with aggression and violent situations.

With a questionnaire survey among the train attendants at Arriva Tåg AB manning Pågatågen, their fear of crime was examined, and if it varies depending on time and geographic location. Their exposure of threats and violence is also examined. The results show that the majority of train attendants feel safe in their workplace, but that previous exposure to threats and violence was a factor that could predict which respondents felt insecure. There was also a relationship between gender and exposure, since men were more exposed to threats and violence than women. The results are compared with the previous research that is applicable on train attendants and client related violence. The results of the current study were also compared with a previous study done on Arriva Tåg AB in 2010.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleEveryone wishes to be able to go to work without anxiety and to being able to leave work with a positive feeling. Some people go to work feeling troubled and return to their homes with memories of a frightening and threatening situation that arose during the day. Teachers are subjected to violations, threats and violence in their occupation, which affects them both personally and within their work environment. Number three of the eight Public Health policy objectives include, among other things, increased health at work something that some teachers may miss out on. The purpose of the study was to investigate the extent to which high school teachers are exposed, violations, threats and violence and whether this had any connection with teacher’s sick leave. Quantitative data were collected through surveys that were filled in by teachers in 7th and 9th grade at primary-schools. Analysis regarding both descriptive and analytic forms were presented to answer the questions included in the studies aim. The results showed that the majority of respondents were subjected to violations, threats and /or violence and that almost half of the respondents perceived that pupils' treatment affected them negatively and that student behavior was better in the past. However, teachers' exposure to violations, threats and violence, could not be linked to sick leave. The conclusion is that teachers are a vulnerable professional group who need to be strengthened and offered functional tools to be able to carry out their profession with the Requirements Control support model and that the school as an arena needs to be reviewed and made safer.
