Annotation:
The monograph is devoted to the problem of formation and development of this branch of the division of hermeneutics as a political hermeneutics. Considered as the very origins of this hermeneutic stemming directly from the history of classical hermeneutics (Chapter 1) and its methodological principles (Chapter 2) and application characteristics (Chapter 3). It is from this triad (history — theory — practice) by the author and displayed the Foundation of political hermeneutics, which seems to them as the "deep method" study of the essence of the political elites and elitism and is characterized as a methodological division of lithologie to uncover the political "backstage" as the main sphere of professional activity of non-public elites. In the formation of hermeneutical understanding, it is important to clarify the internal relationship of this triad as a "language — word — text". The author consistently reveals the idea that language is expressed in the word exactly the same as the word in the text, which in turn is designed for disclosure in another language and in another word (in the "I — don't-Ya"). Designed for students and professionals; anyone interested in the problems of political consciousness and thinking of the elites.

Annotation:
How do words and images function hermeneutically? How does hermeneutic practice work? Answering these questions and more, Nicholas Davey develops the hermeneutical foundations of creative practice. In doing so, he not only uncovers the significance of philosophical hermeneutics for the arts and the humanities, but defends the humanities as a whole from the current scepticism inspired by deconstruction and post-structuralism. Taking Gadamer’s language ontology as its cue, this pioneering volume not only addresses certain weaknesses that Davey observes in Gadamer’s thought but further takes Gadamerian thinking beyond Gadamer himself. In particular, Davey investigates the productive value of negativity that is central to hermeneutics and to wider spheres of creative learning. Advocating a renewed confidence in hermeneutics and the humanities, Negative Hermeneutics and the Question of Practice reveals how hermeneutical thinking provides a map of the dynamics within creative practice, eliminating the need for an externally imposed ‘theory’ of the arts.

Annotation:
Hermeneutics is the act of interpretation that inquires into the ways in which meaning is formed in text and is also more broadly a philosophical inquiry into human existence. Hermeneutics raises questions about the relation of faith to rationality, about the significance of texts, and about the ways in which signs refer to what they signify. Hermeneutics therefore raises questions about meaning and truth that are directly relevant to religions and highly pertinent in contemporary culture. Hermeneutics can be understood to have three main divisions: theological hermeneutics interprets texts held to be sacred by tradition; historical-critical hermeneutics developed in the context of the critical, philological examination of Classical texts and was then applied to Christian scriptures; and philosophical hermeneutics is concerned with the interpretation not only of text but of existence, as we see in the work of Schleiermacher, Gadamer, Ricoeur, and feminist philosophers.

Annotation:
This chapter challenges a reading of Herder’s hermeneutics, or theory of interpretation, that assimilates it to Gadamer’s. For Herder, unlike Gadamer, interpretation is a matter of getting back to a text’s original meaning and avoiding contamination of this by distinctive features of the interpreter’s own viewpoint. Herder’s theory of interpretation rests both on his philosophy of language and on a principle that radical mental differences occur between historical periods, cultures, and even individuals—the latter principle posing the main challenge for accurate interpretation that his theory is designed to address. To that end he develops a whole series of important specific recommendations. These were subsequently taken over by Schleiermacher and Boeckh in their hermeneutic theories, and formed the methodological foundations that enabled the great flowering of the human sciences that occurred in nineteenth-century Germany. Moreover, Herder’s versions of them were in some important ways superior to his successors’.

Annotation:
‘What is hermeneutics?’ begins with the simple answer that hermeneutics means interpretation. But how and why do we interpret? Hermeneutics is the art of understanding and of making oneself understood. Understanding may be guided by analytical principles, but it cannot be reduced to them. Understanding requires art rather than rule-governed science. Hermeneutics is also the name for the philosophical discipline concerned with analysing the conditions for understanding. Hermeneutic thinkers are defined as those who are concerned more specifically with the universal conditions for human understanding in three areas: the nature of consciousness, the nature of truth, and the importance of language. But is hermeneutics just another word for relativism?
