This study aims to examine the current status and utilization of 22 health promotion projects that use the health care information system. We investigate the health promotion examination results for a counseling project held at health centers, which use information connected with the Health Insurance Corporation. First, we review the status of 22 health promotion projects, including 13 integrated health promotion projects and 9 other health promotion projects. Next, we examine the linkages between the 22 projects and other health promotion systems. Consequently, despite accumulating vast amounts of data, only 10 places could be linked to health promotion data in the health and medical information system; the Social Security Information Service was the only exception to this trend. The Public Health Information System (PHIS) had the lowest data utilization rate in the project. The study results show that it is necessary to utilize data from local health and medical institutions in order to provide information system-based health promotion services. In particular, it seems to be effective when health and medical institutions provided various counseling services and other linked services to local residents in connection with the Korea Health Insurance Corporation’s health examination results.

Faith-based organizations are a powerful resource for addressing health issues within the African American community. In this paper, we describe two projects led by volunteer faith-based leaders and community residents who collaborated with public agencies to design programs to combat obesity. The first project, the Southeast Raleigh Community Garden Project, involved the construction of a community garden and the delivery of educational programs on healthy eating among youth. The second one, Project FACT (Faith-based groups Addressing health issues through Community outreach Together in the community), implemented church-based nutrition education programs and community walking programs led by church volunteers. The purpose of the two faith-based health promotion projects was to increase opportunities for physical activity and to encourage consumption of more fruits and vegetables. These projects resulted in the construction of a walking trail with the community garden as its destination, implementation of education programs to increase nutritional awareness, the initiation of multiple walking programs, and policy changes within the church to encourage a healthier lifestyle. The projects demonstrated the feasibility of collaboration among faith-based organizations, community residents and government agencies to promote physical activity and healthful eating among families by creating physical changes in the environment and implementing educational and walking programs in low income communities.

Abstract Sports stadia play an important role in local communities, therefore they are seen as very suitable places for various health promotion programmes. Since 2005, the Healthy Stadia programme has become a new standard for establishing policies regarding health promotion in local communities and during big international tournaments. This programme is an example of an effective setting-based approach to health promotion. Being funded by the European Union Public Health Programme, it has gained popularity in many European countries and also in Canada and Australia. Key parts of the programme include policies on tobacco and alcohol control, healthy food options and physical activity promotion on stadium grounds. Healthy Stadia programme proved to be an effective tool for promoting healthy lifestyle at many sports stadia. The programme is constantly improving and developing new projects, like Football Fans in Training (FFIT) or European Fans in Training (EuroFIT). This article provides an introduction to the programme’s main parts as well as its origins and future projects. Poland is active member of the Healthy Stadia since 2007.

A descriptive analysis of community-based health promotion projects conducted by Divisions of General Practice between 1993 and 1994 and in 1996 is provided, and their design, evaluation, impact and appropriateness are considered. A total of 55 community-based health promotion projects were funded between 1993 and 1994. Analysis of the 1993 and 1994 projects revealed that: most project goals and objectives lacked clarity and measurability; almost all projects undertook some form of needs assessment; projects tended not to be targeted; participation rates and reporting varied greatly; and project evaluations were designed to measure process and impact at the individual level, rather than on a system wide level. Fifty comparable community-based health promotion projects were funded in 1996.An analysis of project proposals revealed that they were designed on the whole to be more targeted, intersectoral, collaborative and to use multiple settings and strategies than their 1993 and 1994 counterparts. Projects have increased the visibility and capacity of general practitioners (GPs) to engage in community-based health promotion, and provide evidence that they can do more than individual service provision activities, such as community-based health promotion in a diverse range of settings, and with a broad range of population groups.

In July 1980, the Barren River District Health Department (BRDHD), serving eight counties (combined population approximately 204,000) in Southcentral Kentucky, was selected as a demonstration site under the auspices of the federal Health Education Risk Reduction (HERR) Program. With continued HERR funding for eight years, the BRDHD developed several successful health promotion projects. Major components of these projects include: 1) community health promotion, which serves to identify high -risk groups in the community and provide them with health education-health promotion services, 2) school health education which included the development of a preschool health education curriculum, 3) teacher education workshop, which instructs primary and secondary public school teachers in health education methods, 4) smoking cessation. and 5) a large industrial wellness program. This study reports on an eight year program evaluation of the HERR demonstration. Overall, the program evaluation suggests an increase in health knowledge and some attitude and behavior change for many of the participants ii BRDHD programs.

Introduction: Despite the positive development of the Swedish public health, the difference in health between groups of people has increased since the 1980’s. One strategy that can be used to reduce the disparities in health is local health promotion. Purpose: The aim of the study is to find out how the employees experience working with a health promoting project and the thought that is that parts of the projects could be implemented in the ordinary work. Method: For this study has been used a qualitative approach where data collection occurred through interviews and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: The results show that the employees were mostly in favor of working with public health project and trying to get functioning parts into regular activities. The employees also find existing collaboration as something positive. Organizational issues are the main obstacle, both long term and short term. Conclusion: The employees have got an awareness of health and they have a positive approach to working with health promotion. There is potential for public health project to succeed if we consider each meeting place’s opportunities and needs. Collaboration is seen as positive, which is a prerequisite for health promotion to succeed. Improved collaboration can lead to even better results through inspiration and a facilitated work situation. Lack of time and resources is the main obstacle for the project and the implementation of it to succeed.

In the past few years, the methodology of projects has been the ideal of many teachers who intend to improve the educational process, trying to apply changes, involving knowledge and thoughts about the teaching practice. However, despite this ideal, teachers are experiencing difficulties in its implementation. In this way, through this research, we sought to analyze the perception of teachers, students and graduation students about the prospect of the collaborative learning in the development of learning projects having health promotion as the main subject. We started it with an educational practice guided by the collaborative learning precepts, having a school from the state‟s public system as the strategic scenario. The kind of research that guided this work was the collaborative research-action, having as participant teachers and students from elementary and high school of a state‟s public school of Cruz Alta Rio Grande do Sul, and academics of the physical education graduation course of Cruz Alta‟s University UNICRUZ. The study was performed in three distinct moments: Identification of the school reality; planning, developing, and evaluating a learning project at the elementary school context and at the high school context. To obtain the information concerning the methodology‟s effectiveness, different instruments were used, such as: surveys, interviews, participant observation and field journal. The data was interpreted by its content analysis. After analyzing the results, it was revealed that the methodology of learning projects can constitute as an important strategy for: learning to work in an interdisciplinary way, the perception of teachers; professional growth, motivation and preparation for the future, in the perception of the graduation student; and a better understanding of the subject, the motivation to learn, a greater appreciation of the school and the importance of teamwork for high school students. There was also that collaborative interventions that occur in the classroom, constitute an important strategy for teachers to restructure their existing practices and overcome the difficulty "time" for their training. Thus, we conclude that the adopted perspective of integration of specific content (health promotion) with educational content (collaborative work and project methodology) and the reality of the classroom was an appropriate choice of work.

Faced with the high number of children and adolescents presenting physical inactivity, overweight and obesity, it is essential that issues involving health promotion are integrated in the school context. Because of inadequate habits when it comes to a healthy lifestyle, physical inactivity and being overweight can cause risk factors for an individual's health. On that basis the study aimed to examine whether developed interdisciplinary educational projects by teachers influence the physical activity and changes in the nutritional status of schoolchildren from the 5th to 9th grade of elementary school. Data were collected in March and December of 2012 (pre and post-test). We used to ascertain the frequency of physical activity, a questionnaire and nutritional status was a survey from the relationship of body mass index (BMI) at the age and sex of the school. The descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage) and to identify the relationships between variables, inferential statistics (parametric and non-parametric). During the course of the year they formed two groups (A and B) of students and teachers to develop focused thematic projects for the promotion of health, thus the analysis was also performed according to the groups. It was observed that there was a significant difference between pre and post-test in the weekly frequency of physical activity of the Group, as the nutritional status not noticed improvement. In Group B there was no evidence any change in relation to nutritional status, weekly frequency of physical activity and correlation between these variables. So the weekly frequency of physical activity of the Group A may have increased the participation of students in interdisciplinary projects developed by teachers involving knowledge of the exercise, as the Group B participated in the project for the breakfast in the morning.

AbstractThis chapter will introduce the results of a comparative, interdisciplinary joint research on transdisciplinary research (TD), conducted by three social science researchers and three natural science researchers who work at the Decision Science Center for a Sustainable Society, Kyushu University (Institute of Decision Science for a Sustainable Society, Kyushu University, IDS3). Since the beginning of IDS3’s Future Earth project, or before the project became a global research program, all of us had engaged with TD research in our own local fields and disciplines, to solve local social problems while interacting with various social stakeholders. Our disciplines include public health, forest management, natural regeneration in paddy fields, small hydropower generation, local governance, and tourism promotion. While sharing the results of our TD projects among ourselves, we found some common questions and problem perspectives on Future Earth, mainly from the point of view of social science. In this chapter, we will present the outcome of our comparative joint research, including our common questions, perspectives, and problem setting on Future Earth and TD research. Then, we will propose some hypothetical indicators for the conditions and requirements for achieving successful “co-design/co-production/co-delivery.”

Removing the lens of pathogenesis, aging is an achievement to be embraced and older people are valued as assets for their wealth of experiences, resources, skills and knowledge. From the perspectives of older adults, the concept of healthy aging is multidimensional, comprising bio-psycho-social-spiritual health. Evidence shows that sense of coherence via resistance resources promotes health outcomes among older adults. However, very few works have attempted to operationalise the salutogenic theory to promote healthy aging among older community dwellers. This chapter provides a detailed description of the Salutogenic Healthy Aging Program Embracement (SHAPE) intervention for senior-only household dwellers. SHAPE represents an application of the salutogenic concepts: sense of coherence and resistance resources. SHAPE is an integrative person-centric multi-dimensional health resource program that employs an asset-based insight-oriented approach. Illustration of examples in which how the salutogenic concepts were operationalised in developing the SHAPE intervention approach, its content, activities and the conduction of the intervention are presented.

AbstractApplying the PERMA model, several positive education projects were launched in pre-primary, primary, high schools, and universities in Hong Kong. The projects were guided by a six-level implementation process described as learn it, live it, reflect it, conceptualize it, apply it and embed it. The pre-primary school project focused on the character strengths of creativity, bravery, hope, love, altruism, honesty, gratitude, and forgiveness. The whole school positive education project in primary schools aimed to enhance the wellbeing of teachers and students, and involved teacher trainings, parent workshops, student activities, and a positive education curriculum. The high school project emphasized promoting optimism, hope, and character strengths, aiming to decrease students’ anxiety. The university project aimed to nurture and enhance the development of students’ positive emotions, relationships, purpose, accomplishments, engagement, and health. The projects were effective in increasing the wellbeing and decreasing the mental health problems of students. Characteristics of the positive education projects and factors affecting effectiveness of the projects are discussed and suggestions for future direction of positive education in Hong Kong are proposed.

AbstractThe wide implementation of patient safety improvement efforts continues to face many barriers including insufficient involvement of all stakeholders in healthcare, lack of individual and organizational learning when medical errors occur and scarce investments in patient safety. The promotion of systems-based approaches offers methods and tools to improve the safety of care. A multidisciplinary perspective must include the involvement of patients and citizens as fundamental contributors to the design, implementation, and delivery of health services. The patient journey is a challenging example of using a systems approach. The inclusion of the patient’s viewpoint and experience about their health journey throughout the time of care and across all the care settings represents a key factor in improving patient safety. Patient engagement ensures that the design of healthcare services are aligned with the values, the preferences, and needs of the patient community and integrates the real-life experience and the skills of the people to enhance patient safety in the patient journey. The utmost priority to implement patient engagement is the training of patients. Therefore, training for both patients/families/advocates and health professionals is the foundation on which to build active engagement of patients and consequently an effective and efficient patient journey. The chapter offers examples of successful training courses designed to foster strategic alliances among healthcare professionals and researchers with patients and their organizations. Training of patients constitutes the first step to develop shared knowledge, co-produced projects, and the achievement of active multilevel participation of patients for the implementation of patient safety in the patient journey.

Introduction Maintaining good life quality in urban neighbourhoods is one of the biggest challenges. The project "Healthy Neighbourhoods - Health Promotion and Prevention in Districts" ( 07/201712/2020) aims to describe and improve health and quality of life of citizens living in neighbourhoods with different socioeconomic statuses. Method To examine a possible connection between social and health situation, six districts with "very low", "low", "middle" and "high" social statuses will be compared. An instrument was developed to measure walkability, community sense, nutrition, alcohol and tobacco consumption, resilience, health-related quality of life as well as the socio-economic and the socio-demographic status. Results In April 2019, the team recorded n=621 interviews (n=102 in Lohbrügge, n=116 in Rahlstedt, n=87 in Sasel, n=135 in Stellingen, n=65 Wilhelmsburg and n=116 in Hamm). Men were somewhat overrepresented compared to women (n=268 woman, n=345 men, n=2 diverse, n=8 no indication). Respondents were aged between 18 - 96 (mean = 57.5, SD = 19.6). Discussion The results demonstrate different health situations, resources and challenges regarding the socio-economic status and the district respectively. To ensure a participative approach, the results will be presented to citizens and health experts living in these districts and form the basis to develop health promoting intervention.

Scandinavian countries, in particular northern Scandinavia, have developed unique sociolinguistic frameworks which aim to preserve local indigenous languages. These models have acted to protect the cultural heritages of these ethnicities. As such, these models of preservation have offered a framework to be applied to other contexts, and hence in regions where language and cultural preservation and revitalization have become a salient factor. This current study presents an evaluation of the Norwegian State Action Plan for the preservation of indigenous languages in the region of tribal northern Scandinavia. The study produces the several recommendations as a comparative framework between northern Scandinavia and ASEAN countries. With respect to education, the study suggests establishing kindergartens for tribal children led by tribal communities, developing teacher training programs for indigenous instructors, developing educational materials and curricular guides in the local languages, establishing networks of distance learning, arranging language and cultural learning summer camps for tribal children and youth, and mapping mother tongue illiteracy among adults so as to assist in the action planning of these projects. With respect to the daily use of languages, the study suggests a development of interpreter training programs, the implementation procedures for translation of official documents, the development of minority language proficiency in the health services and judicial system, incorporating indigenous language in digital technologies and likewise promoting digital literacy, developing dictionaries for minority languages, and instigating the promotion of place names in local languages. The study employs a literature analysis, and a comparison of contexts, to determine the appropriation and effectiveness of the application of the Scandinavian preservation system to ASEAN. The study contributes to thought in Linguistic Anthropology, in that it suggests that, despite the uniqueness of sociolinguistic practices, preservation methods and government mandates may, at least in part, offer transferability.

The mental health of adult women is an important attribute of their motherhood. Weakening of mental health poses a threat to activities in the field of self-care and healthy development of their children. Even under these conditions of health disadvantage, women-mothers remain as the main mediators of health-promoting habits for their children, thus they become theirs first educators. The health literacy of these women also plays a role in this regard. For this reason, it is crucial to provide these women with sufficient special education that takes their individual needs into account. This research project is focused on finding connections between the mental health disorder of mothers, their health literacy with manifestations in the field of health-promoting behaviour, and with the need for support in the relevant area of childcare by professionals and close family members. The author will present an overview of research focused on this issue as well as her own proposal for a research solution, which received the support of the Charles University Grant Agency for the years 2021-2022.

As concerns over the rapid depletion of our natural resources, air quality, and the environment continue to grow, so do the technologies being developed to address those issues. Thus it’s essential that government agencies and educational institutions alike become leaders in the promotion of “green” technologies and “green” design as they are becoming more than ever before concrete solutions to our environmental concerns. This report describes the project undertaken by a multi-disciplinary group of Engineering and Technology students at California State University, Los Angeles. This project looked into a sustainable approach to reduce the overall campus energy use and its environmental impact. Over the course of the project, a detailed investigation of the campus energy demand was conducted and solutions to improve the aging campus energy infrastructure were drafted. Some of thee short term solutions included Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) that focused on the operation and management of our energy with respect to lighting, air conditioning, and building envelope. Some mid-range solutions included the increase in capacity of the TES and an overall design of a hydrogen generation station was developed for future consideration.

To promote active transportation modes (such as bike ride and walking), and to create safer communities for easier access to transit, it is essential to provide consolidated data-driven transportation information to the public. The relevant and timely information from data facilitates the improvement of decision-making processes for the establishment of public policy and urban planning for sustainable growth, and for promoting public health in the region. For the characterization of the spatial variation of transportation-emitted air pollution in the Fresno/Clovis neighborhood in California, various species of particulate matters emitted from traffic sources were measured using real-time monitors and GPS loggers at over 100 neighborhood walking routes within 58 census tracts from the previous research, Children’s Health to Air Pollution Study - San Joaquin Valley (CHAPS-SJV). Roadside air pollution data show that PM2.5, black carbon, and PAHs were significantly elevated in the neighborhood walking air samples compared to indoor air or the ambient monitoring station in the Central Fresno area due to the immediate source proximity. The simultaneous parallel measurements in two neighborhoods which are distinctively different areas (High diesel High poverty vs. Low diesel Low poverty) showed that the higher pollution levels were observed when more frequent vehicular activities were occurring around the neighborhoods. Elevated PM2.5 concentrations near the roadways were evident with a high volume of traffic and in regions with more unpaved areas. Neighborhood walking air samples were influenced by immediate roadway traffic conditions, such as encounters with diesel trucks, approaching in close proximity to freeways and/or busy roadways, passing cigarette smokers, and gardening activity. The elevated black carbon concentrations occur near the highway corridors and regions with high diesel traffic and high industry. This project provides consolidated data-driven transportation information to the public including: 1. Transportation-related particle pollution data 2. Spatial analyses of geocoded vehicle emissions 3. Neighborhood characterization for the built environment such as cities, buildings, roads, parks, walkways, etc.
